@naive ore if you you an extra 400$ to upgrade @naive ore get like a 3600x and 3200mhz 2x8gb RAM
Yo ima build my first pc today wish me luck
@next tangle no abut my mom is thinking about getting it because my sister is going off to college
That’s just a starting point for me @next tangle @deep skiff I’m taking your advice and upgrading the graphics and the cpu will more than likely be Ryzen 7 2700 with the wraith cooler
Anyone have thoughts about the ASRock B450 Pro 4 mb?
@uneven glade good motherboard
for people on a budget
because you can overclock with it
like this
Hey guys I am having trouble deciding on if i should get a 2nd gen ryzen because the 3rd gen x570 boards are to expensive and idk what to do
i have questions on what i need to invest in making a good workstation desktop
anyone free to answer questions?
actually shouldnt i be basing the build around what software i use?
ive been told your build depends on what rendering it being used cpu or gpu
cause atm im going to be using blender and zbrush as my main modeling programs
@coarse coral @leaden dawn https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bYiz0iUvp9w watched that video and turns out the 3600X isn't worth it
Support us on Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/hardwareunboxed AMD Ryzen 5 3600: https://amzn.to/2NBu0nT AMD Ryzen 5 3600X: https://amzn.to/2S2gKap AMD Ryzen...
So I'll go https://pcpartpicker.com/list/p7pfYT with that
lmao ik
you really don't need 16gb of ram either
but I want it 😉
I was gonna go with some other RGB RAM same speed and 16GB but the RGB was bad
and i hope you have luck bios updating that mobo
So I switched to the 3600, got a cooler, changed the mobo and RAM
Why do you say that?
I personally would never get less than 16GB of ram nowadays
Same @leaden dawn
Can it work without? Yeah sure, but at that point it really is a quality of life thing
For not that much more
I always keep chrome like permanently up with so much tabs it nearly takes 3GB of ram alone
@coarse coral which CPU cooler is better, the one I listed or this one: https://www.amazon.com/DEEPCOOL-GT-BK-Motherboard-Supported/dp/B074P3JCXX/ref=pd_cp_147_1?pd_rd_w=w6Qs9&pf_rd_p=ef4dc990-a9ca-4945-ae0b-f8d549198ed6&pf_rd_r=3Q63J3F2BG3ZPF41QA1Q&pd_rd_r=ecf5fdc2-23e7-4eae-82e7-7de5ebbe6737&pd_rd_wg=Gaonv&pd_rd_i=B074P3JCXX&psc=1&refRID=3Q63J3F2BG3ZPF41QA1Q
they are pretty much the same
I don't know much about air cooling, been using liquid for a long time
Well I would love a liquid cooler
But it doesn't fit the budget
hmm
I could go with a 500$ budget
Maybe...
you probably don't need it though lol
I starting buying liquid cooling so I could OC
and now I still use it because thread ripper is a beast
4.99 cents
i ran this today, only thing overclocked is RAM
UserBenchmarks: Game 141%, Desk 164%, Work 169%
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X - 97.5%
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080-Super - 171.2%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 500GB - 326.9%
SSD: Samsung 860 Evo 1TB - 115%
SSD: Samsung 970 Evo Plus NVMe PCIe M.2 1TB - 386%
RAM: G.SKILL F4 DDR4 3200 C14 2x16GB - 124.2%
MBD: Asus ROG CROSSHAIR VIII HERO
everything else is stock
GPU is ASUS for those wondering
Honestly, this is what I really wanted to see
Just ordered my parts for my pc and those line up fairly well
buy Kryonaut, its better than Hydronaut
You also dont need a 1000W
buy a smaller, more power efficient PSU
I have a Titanium 750
Overall fairly well built, I wasnt gonna spend the extra 600 on a 2080 Ti, the Super works just as well at the expense of a couple of frames, not too much of a difference.
I bought the 2080 before the super lineup
Unfortunate
Yeah but I’m still happy with my pc
Thing is the 2080 super is the least improved of the whole super lineup
A 2080 Super is still the 2nd fastest card though... How much faster can people think itll be without it being a 2080 Ti?
2080 Ti is way too overpriced
Not saying it’s not faster it’s just me making excuses to not kick myself for buying the normal 2080 lmao
Not to mention if you want a workstation card, the RTX Titan is insanely more than the 2080 Ti, no reason to hate the 2080 Super, its maxed out as far as the 2080's die will allow it
Yeah ti is too highly priced especially when you consider the performance, but that’s just how it be
600$ for 20 more frames max? Yeah not happening
It only happens for when people have the money to spare though
Imagine being able to spend $600 more for a few more frames when you could turn down some settings and the game would still look good lol
I had the money, but cards will only last for so long. RTX wont be an architecture that lasts forever if AMD keeps pumping out cards like the 5700XT, it was more of a performance and price comparison for me
I mean if AMD holds true to Navi, Nvidia will no longer be top dog with the progressions AMD is making in GPUs
theyll be dead even
and AMD has always usually been cheaper so you can already assume whos gonna take some market share
I doubt nvidia will die but they’ll lose battles
They wont die
Nvidia is still the bigger name for gpu’s
Look up nvidias stock vs AMDs
we talking hundreds of dollars to a couple of dollars
Nvidia has a name to uphold but they still have competition thats just as good if not better for price to performance
They’re definitely better for worth, and competition is good for us so I’m not complaining lol
But nvidia never cared about price, if they did they wouldnt up the flagship card a couple hundred dollars more every year
Nvidia is very expensive, no doubt, but games are nvidia and Intel biased just due to market share
Anyways, im happy with my build and plan to upgrade when more cards come out in the next 3 years
Yeah I’m happy with my build too but I need to upgrade my PSU lol
yea
I have an i7 8700k and a 2080 but a 600w bronze rated PSU????
I’m gonna go to 850 and plat or titanium rated purely for energy savings in that perspective
ill show u my psu
But I need more watts if I even think about upgrading anything else
Nice PSU
dead quiet
My pc operates at around 20 db
very quiet
only bequiet! and Noctua fans are in my PC
80+ gold is what you want
MSI’s 2080 gaming x trio is pretty quiet
yea but its also the most expensive 2080 ti so
we talking nearly 2000 vs 800
so
yikes
80+ gold is too low I need titanium or platinum >:)
Platinum is good
Titanium is too, its recommended for extremely high end systems for reliability and whatnot
you guys are insane
They’re also extremely high priced lol
i dont even have an 80+ power supply
goober
haha
What
goober
The efficiency of it must be horrible
higher efficiency PSUs tend to be higher quality and quiet, plus its bragging rights
Imagine drawing 100w from the wall and using less than 80 watts whaat
like comparing a gold to a titanium is not even comparable
They’re more quiet cause they lose less energy to heat and don’t need to spin much
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/80_Plus scroll down
Lol I kinda did whatever until I could close the side
Idk if I have a pic and I’m too lazy to open it rn
I like cable management to the extent of your view
This can be what you see
But what you don’t see is
Thats mine
This thing that I am dreading to move lol
i would show mine but the hard drive broke from a virus
I don’t have channel raceways yet but I plan on it sometime soon
i have a 1060 and a 2700x it bottlenecks
i have 16 gigs of ram
What yall think
and my 1060 has 3gb
Reason: Bad word usage
i have bad cm
Here’s my friend’s pc, hard to take a pic cause it’s gigantic and under his desk lol
I think it has an 8700 (non k) and a 1050ti. It’s a prebuilt from origin and yes it’s dusty cause he keeps it on the carpet and never cleans it idk why
My other friend has a prebuilt from Best Buy that he slapped a 1070 in and he ALSO never cleans it.... his SCREAMS at idle.... and when it’s under load.... oh god
why would they spend 300 dollars on a CPU and still have a garbage GPU
i cant speak here
Idk it’s a prebuilt AND it cost $3000 which I do not understand
I went to origin’s website and built his exact pc.. can confirm it costs $3000
origin is on the doodoo juice
He has like a capture card and stuff, he doesn’t even have an SSD lmao
He has a sound card too
currently playing on a macintosh cuase my hard drive fried lol
Oof
Reason: Bad word usage
poor as poop so i cant
I’m trying to build a 1.5k pc and am using a Ryzen 2700x and a Asus Rtx 2070 Super. should I use a Ryzen 5 3600x instead or change the gpu?
That looks intense
@leaden dawn still decent
Guys, is this card any good? https://www.newegg.com/msi-radeon-rx-590-rx-590-armor-8g/p/N82E16814137448?Item=N82E16814137448
yes
@lime forge how good? I was reading the reviews and que Q&A section of that same page I got scared :c
ty my friend
@elder anvil go with 3600 and rx 5700xt for nearly same performance for $200 cheaper
Good idea ^^
RX 590 on sale is good for $180, 1660 for <$200 is much better especially if you want VP9 4k decode and NVENC capability
eBay rx 570 /580 are the steal imo
Yeah I got a 580 8gb for $90 for my daughters build
will run most games at 1080p at 100fps
This ^^^
580 is a fantastic budget card, no 4k decoding as it lacks vp9, but who cares when $<100 buys 120fps fortnight 1080p
Also it draws a reasonable 35-50W from the pcie slot unlike the 480's very rude 100W
@little osprey ty! Im wasn't sure because the reviews on the page, but I think Ill buy it
the RD .... I have the MSI 580 8gb MK 2 ( red version) and the thing is SOLID.
ahhh thats weird
Building for a friend ..... AMD 2600x, B450 asrock mobo, 16gb ddr4 3000, m.2 970 Evo Pro, 2TB HDD, Corsair 850 gold psu and a r9 Fury. Think $750 is fair?
He just wants it for gaming and some family pictures/video
Have you thought of going 3600 vs 2600x?
$750 is a good price point for that use case imo.
Nothing wrong with that, is the R9 carried over as well?
Same deal, perfectly fine to carry over, but if buying new, I'd go 3600 / something else etc
tested out a few ... all looked and ran great
yeah he originally said $1500
then it went to , cheap as what I need it for
but I dont know =/ my rig is beefy but I know most people dont want what I have
Which parts are you buying new?
the ram , HDD and PSU
I got a deal on the 2600x , mobo and ram
was seeing if he would do a 2700x
can grab one new for $175
I'd go 3600 over either of those if new, but ya, the 2600x/2700x are just fine.
Might be able to get a cheaper PSU, but I remember seeing a memory + RM850x recently making the PSU about $110.
yeah
Useful PSU tier list from the LTT forums - good starting spot for research
https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/1045610-new-psu-tier-list/
I dont wanna let him down
but I dont want to waste his money
he has a 4 month old
so I dont see him gaming as much as he wants
I know the feel. IME, for those upgrading, having everything work without issue + saving $$ is the best starting point.
what do you all think about this
is it too good to be true or is it a good pickup?
so its a no?
no
Doesn't mining slow it down?
wears down the part
Price is normal, main thing to worry about in a mining card is fan bearing wear unless the user ran the card too hot. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=NVIDIA+Geforce+GTX+1070+8+GB+Founder's+Edition+-ti&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&rt=nc&LH_ItemCondition=4
im not going to get a mining card especially since this is going to be my frist system and i dont want to risk anything
Not a bad idea. For a $200 new card I'd say 1660, $250 1660 ti, $300 + I'd wait/save for a 5700 with a non-reference cooler.
i think im either going to get the rx 590 or the gtx 1660
which one do you guys recommend?
1660 if you want streaming capability. 590 if you're confident your use case is best served by that card specifically.
1660 is best imo
dear god amazon just suggested an RGB mouse pad while I was looking at new monitors. What hell are we living in when even mouse pads must have RGB.
i was looking at this mobo and cpu combo do you think its worth it and also can i overclock with this board?
mousepads actually are pretty cool w rgb, coming from someone who wants to rgb everything.
personally, i wouldnt want it in my setup but most of the reason why is cause of the other qualities i'd want
i'd need it to be an extended mousepad, but wider than the normal 11-13; width, and it needs to be white
if there was a white super large mousepad that had RGB, put it in my cart already
I'd get an RGB mouse pad
i am looking for a motherboard that will fit the Lenovo ultra ult31580 wizard atx mid-tower. any suggestions? thank you
just removed the input conector pins on a modular molex cable and added it to the psu's molex connector for MOAR MOLEX
the input connector pins are also hollow but small enough to fit into the bigger hollow pins
(wasn't sure where to put this, just an fyi that small molex can fit into big molex if you take apart the small molex)
What is this for?
What do you even use molex for
I'm going to re-wire that for PCIe 6 pin, but it's used by a few legacy devices and kids who use molex > PCIe 6 pin dongles for their GPU risers on mining rigs.
Molex can do ~108W vs SATA's 58W shared across all connectors on the same PSU cable.
okay so im building a system pretty soon
and i was just wondering one thing and if ic an get an opinion on
do i get the 1660 ti with the ryzen 5 2600 with the asrock b450m pro4 motherboard
or do i get the gtx 1660 and get the ryzen 5 2600x with the same motherboard
1660ti imo. The x versions are just overclocked and slightly binned better I think. Don’t quote me though wait for other’s answers too
okay thank you but i think im going to get the vega 56 instead of the 1660 ti now
Would the Ryzen 5 2600X bottleneck the GTX 1080ti? Got it used and I know it probably will, but splurging on the mobo instead of CPU to plan for future upgrades (including budget CPU to at least Ryzen 7)
@raven cloud do you have a micro center near yoou?
also i have a question
is this too good to be true?
omg im dumb dumb
i thought it was a vega 56
No. Live near nothing much, could drive to Portland but dont really want to. All shopping is Ebay Amazon and Newegg
Seagate 🤢🤢🤢 @grand ridge
Oh shut up man
I like them
Btw @vernal dirge I need to see if this case I have is mATX
I can’t tell
The space at the bottom of the screen is for the PSU which is actually the top of the case
@vernal dirge REEEEEEEEEE
what doo you guys think is the best pc i could get for around 1,000-1,200 USD]
Any suggestions for custom dust filters to cover random design of cases that don't have a filter?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/8VMFf7/asus-wireless-network-card-pceac68 Is it worth its price?
Or is it not and I should just buy like a 100 foot ethernet cable (since my room is kinda far from the router)
@little osprey What will you be using your PC for?
My vote is ALWAYS... HARD LINE.. so yep... get 1k feet if needed. Lol.
Lmao got i!
sorry over-guessed it lmao
I actually only need 50 feet LMAO
What is the difference between like CAT5, CAT6, etc.. @hazy seal
Top speed allowed
You can buy Cat8
Cat6 is more then adequate for any internet allowed to the general public
That’s overkill... but it’s cheap.. and will future proof a little further on the cables you will need in 40 years ... lol
Ohh I thought you said you suggest CAT8 for me\
lmao
So what is CAT8 for?
Do you mean speeds that cable can't handle?
That cable is designed for military and government internet speeds... the general population doesn’t get speeds close enough to need that cable
Ohh lmao
Military wifi SUCKS
But you can use it... not going to hurt anything
WIFI sucks all around. Lol
lmao
Going to that fiber optic connection
For gaming anyway
OKAY BUDDYYYY
25$ for 50 feet is not a bad price...
I can not wait for fiber to move 200 yards down the street and to my house. Lol
Yes... 11$ is cheaper then 25$... so go for the Cat6 you won’t need anything more then that ever anyway
K
I’d go Cat8 for 💩 and giggles.... but that’s me. Cat6 is more then acceptable
Wb CAT7?
SAME THING... it’s fine... it will work...
there ya go.. make a choice and go for it
Even Cat5 is acceptable... just buy a cable and go play games with it.
CAT8 IT IS
Good...
Hey does anyone know where to get colored cables for a modular PSU. Bought one the other day and now all I seem to be able to find is cable extensions which seems like it would just cause more problems with cable management. Maybe I'm wrong on that and extensions are all I would need. Would like to get them for a decent price too. I found some custom sites but it's like $50 per cable
CableMods is the most reccomended
Ok that wasn't one of the ones that I found just from googling it so I'll check it out
Am I correct in assuming full cables are the better option over getting the extensions then?
is a 1660 ti worth the money for an upgrade, i don't like the rtx cards cause it doesn't do much for making the image better and it just kills frames. any suggestions?
I disagree about RTX cards.
Yeah what
As my first trick, I will make a cardboard tank. Because I have nothing better to do, and I need money. Uploading this dropped my wifi to 1.2kb/s, for a full...
I made this
Nice
that's a great build
@pulsar dew for a much cheaper choice and basically same quality, check out upHere on Amazon or ASIANHorse, they sell great cables, just search up upHere cables or asianhorse cables and they should pop up! 😄
Just a question, the problem I think with this build is the ram. Will 2,400 mhz be good enough with Ryzen 5 2600x +1660ti?
If you would like this screenshot to be translated, please ping me if.
Could I get some help
@burnt dawn go for a minimum of 3,000mhz
Unfortunately that ram speed isn't available in guatemalan market where I live
@sudden turret that ram is e die couldnt it hit 3000 cl16 at 1.35v?
@next tangle sorry i took so long to respond, most likely for non-competitive gaming. Trying to get 144 hz and maybe streaming idk
@next tangle Appreciate the info but from what I can see there are only cable extensions from those 2 companies. I was looking for full cables
Also probably why they are so much cheaper too
What are the best psu cables?
? Do I need to buy genuine windows if I’m upgrading mobo +cpu ram all that Jazz?
Or transfer possible?
If you have your OEM KEY from the packet you can try using that
should be able to transfer it yea
Word up ty
Or if you logged into Microsoft sometime from your last install it should work too unless there are limitations
Any thoughts on stock thermal on the r5 2600 cpu?
I was having issues transferring keys I’m better off just getting a new copy
@grand ridge I don't recommend stretching your headphones over your case like that in your build pic as over time it can make them misshaped and too wide for your head.
Going through #build-pics ... @hasty pike
Do you want me to send you some Velcro ties? I have a ton.
I'm beginning to put my PC together and lemme tell you; I couldn't resist testing my lighting node pro before I rip my case apart to paint it XD
It looks so gooooood
Thanks 👌
lol thanks but I’m just too lazy to manage my cables.
@lime forge rate my 1.3k build pl0x https://pcpartpicker.com/list/NfW9xG
@deep skiff probably get a cheaper motherboard and put the $50-100 you save from that into a better CPU
@deep skiff you can also get a 1TB 660p SSD for like $90 I think
yeah but the 660p slows down as it fills up
Ah
@oak radish way better
i just need some advice on something
so i found this really good deal on a graphics card and im currently saving up money for the system
and i have enough money for the graphics card but nothing else
do i get the graphics card and then the rest of the parts later or no?
because the graphics card is used but its an insane deal
do you have a way to test if it works? what's the return policy?
no way to; test it but its ebay and they always side with the buyer
i know that because my mom makes a living off of ebay flipping
do you maybe have a friend who would let you test it in their pc or something?
because if you do, then buy it and test it quickly ig, and if it's crap then get that refund
i think the only problem buying parts with big time gaps between each other is figuring out if they actually work or not and the timeframe for the return if they're crap
What card?
^
"..."
the card
How's the new build treating you @regal agate ?
@lime forge https://pcpartpicker.com/list/hCjNJ8 "gigabyte fanboy" 😉
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/K3TPjy guys my new pc
IKR
I found a gt 710 at work
yeets 2060 GIMME
Hey guys, I’m getting closer to starting my pc build and I was wondering what core would be better
I was looking at the i7-9700k but I’m worried about not having enough threads for the near future
Is it even worth it?
I’m a little pressed about intel not adding more threads to their cpus
What are you planning on the near future that might need more threads?
I was just reading an article online about the chips not having enough threads, I will be using my pc for 3D rendering and coding with some gaming on the side
If you're doing 3D rendering, then yes, you probably will want to focus on threads
This is a hard choice. I don’t think I like AMD that much and intel is behind
if you have to get intel, id go for the 9900k
I9?
it has 16 threads
I think 8 cores is plenty enough now. There's only so much parallelism you can achieve
do you have any preferred brands?
I don’t need anymore than that, don’t want to get left behind on the threads though
Not really, MSI and ASU’s is fine
ok
is there anything you need like a bunch of io ports or a bunch of sata ports? or does it not matter
I’m not trying to spend that much money though, I think I’m capping at 2k which is still a ton

yeah thats a very nice budget
ok lemme go find a motherboard
oh wait
do you already have a graphics card?
I’m looking through newegg rn and no, I was looking into the 1080ti
yes, thats a good card
i would go with 3700x+rx 5700 xt tbh
That one works for intel chips?
MSI MPG Z390 GAMING EDGE AC LGA 1151 (300 Series) Intel Z390 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.1 ATX Intel Motherboard https://m.newegg.com/product/N82E16813144213?m_ver=1
heres a good motherboard
my dad has one, it works well
I think that’s one of the ones I have in my cart lol
bam even better than whatever zack is probably gonna make cause its amd https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FdMyD2
and only 1.5k
This pc has to be able to do AI and VR
That’s not a bad build
I did want intel, but whichever is better for what I need is what I’ll get
what program for rendering?
hold on brb
V-ray, I could use octane with the intel setup
Octane render, and sorry it’s for the nvidia gpus
oh lol
yeah vray favors threads
I was using auto desk but I don’t like it
i have no clue about rendering stuff
even the 2700x almost ties the 9900k in vray
question, do you care about your build looks?
Not really, although I was trying to go for a unicorn build cuz you know
Need them LEDS, each one adds an extra core
isnt octane render gpu stuff?
Yeah, for nvidia cards
there ya go
3x the storage as what nuclear posted earlier, and a bit faster ram
and cheaper too
ThErMal TaKe
ive been taking my time pickng lol, im not gonna start this build for another month
apparently just get 8x 2080 ti's https://www.cgdirector.com/octanebench-benchmark-results/
also im on mobile, thats why it took me so long
might want to also consider sli for the rendering
its 3:20 here :l
for that price i could get the amd 1 cpu, is it better than the ryzen 7?
same here
east coast ftw
it would probably beat the 3700x, but up to you if you want to spend the extra money for faster rendering
for rendering i would say 32
i wouldnt go the threadripper path i would get the 3900x
cause the threadripper motherboards are expensive
and they both perform about the same
you could get a x570 motherboard for the 3900x for like 200
i think 4 sticks at 32gb would be better than 2?
yeah 4x8gb would be the best
G. Skill or veangeance
doesnt matter, but try to get 3000 or 3200mhz
How much rgb you want?
all of it
rgb really makes price go up
^
the stock cooler for the processor has rgb
But the performance boost is worth it
they dont have 4x32 tridents .-.
and you could get a 6 pack of rgb fans for $45
they have a sale for $309 4x16
thats just too much, ill run a whole server on my pc lol
i forgot to ask, is the latency an issue? im looking at cas 16
thats not even worth it rn
you think 600w is enough?
id go 650/750
700w are priced almosy the same as the 800
yeah but its cheaper than the others for some reason
no lol
its for dual gpu's
It doubles performance
doesnt do much gaming but helps for rendering
sli and crossfire is to connect two gpus for moar power (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻
okay i see
Micro stuttering doesn’t exist and two GPUs is the only way to live
what about going fully modular?
You never go full modular
these thermaltakes are pretty low scored
if your budget allows for it, go fully modular, otherwise try to shoot for semi modular, and if you have to, go non modular
tough power, smart pro, or tough power grand .-.
i got two tough powers from 11 years ago, they both still work
sorry for all the questions btw, im sure this gets annoying lol
Were you even alive 11 years ago
So you bought psus when you were 3?
22 years of psu
if youre not overclocking, nah
Maybe get an aio if you travel with your pc a lot
??
Like I travel between college and home and it’s safer to have an aio than a air cooler
thats what i meant by the semi water cool lol
im currently looking at the cases, i need something with good air flow
If you like the aesthetic of an aio and got budget sure but if you want value go for air
my college is only 20min away so moving aroun wont be an issue
id probab;y go with an aio
Go with at least 240mm, 120mm’s suck
thanks for the tip, iwent for the 120mm lol
i believe corsair had a really nice one with a built in screen on the aio
whats the difference between armor, duke, and gaming on the gpus?
ohh okay, thanks for the info man! i didnt know there was a differnece
Yeah, Blowers.... blow
okay so, i currently have 2 motherboards, an asus prime z390-a thats comboed with the i9 or msi mpg z390. which is better? im saving about $30 according to the chart
i think the prime has more pci slots but im not sure, these specs are kinda hard to read
I always say ASUS... I have the z390-e amazing MOBO
Do you need the extra slot or WiFi?
And 30$ is 30$...
MSI has come a long way in the years... so they are not bad
wifi would be great, although i believe my wired connection on my wall works
then again i could always buy the extension
So... might as well spend 30$ get the WiFi built in... and not buy an adapter later
And should always go hardline if you can.. WiFi is too slow. Lol
I always recommend having WIFI as a backup tho
As backup... absolutely
My router is right next to my pc, but I know that isn't the case with most. It's all about your needs. Also, Asus does make amazing boards, but MSI is no slouch either.
i probably wont get the combo then
Reason: Bad word usage
oops
I think the online update tool is crazy
theres so many options like frick /heavy breathing/
I wonder if that's common in most motherboards nowadays
I was so surprised to see my bios would connect to the internet and grab the latest update
thats the combo that i picked
I love that with my MOBO...
I remember when flashing the bios was a bear. It's so easy to deal with now
yup, I used to be afraid of killing the bios lolz
crazy that you could fry it from that. I did it only on major updates

If anyone needs help setting up a build just shoot me a message
or just ask here so you can have the opinion of multiple nerds
What's the better option? Onboard Mobo audio or sound card?
depends on your headset
or headphones
most mobo onboard is fine for most people
if you have headphones/set with high impedence you might want to invest in something with an amp or expensive soundcard
I'm gonna either get 80 ohm beyerdynamic dt990 250 ohm I'll need an amp for them for sure
I meant the 80 ohm or 250 ohm version lol
250 you need an amp
50-80 is the borderline
Might go 80 ohm for simplicity and savings
i have 50 ohm and its iffy with asus's onboard software
music its amazing
games...... its lacking
An ALC 1220 can power 250 ohm dt990's fine
and its all the onboard sound doing the work
But if you're an audiophile, you'll be getting a DAC anyway
I have a PC part picker list for a 240hz setup for a little over 1500
It's not just about the impedance though

Nah I'm not that picky
If I can track properly enough with 32 oHm impedance on an Xbox controller, I'm sure 80 would be just fine
I'd probably get a mixer just to balance out treble and bass and stuff like that
Haha your recommendation was right too thguh @coarse coral
the audio on the maximus xi makes me angry
music is loud enough, apex legends its quiet af no matter what
In that it definitely depends on mobo audio chipset and what pair of cans
Which XI?
Don't say hero
hero wifi
But yeah with the 240hz build, on the Mobo doesn't look like it has a sound card on it
I know mobos gotta be able to fit but damn yo how's a brother gonna get sound
I'll send the link
Haha tbh, as long as you're not trying to push 250W all the time with no VRM heatsink airflow, honestly, Hero is fine]
Gimme some tips here or there on some changes I could make to save dollars and/or build a more efficient machine with a 1500 budget
I'm just getting into PC gaming so any and all tips or constructive criticism is helpful
the mobo doesn't like my HD598SR
the asus onboard audio was fantastic on z270
but z390? nope
is the alc1220 any good
Ya, and the ones with the I2S separate headphone amp more-so
but the amplify settings for headset is so low
😦
ive tried looking online on how to improve it but nothing works out well
DO you use the front panel or the back
front
Hmm, I think there are two front panel headphone headers? a legacy and HD? I use a DAC so idk
Used to use a Xonar essence stx
@compact cove Are you building this all new? US?
Yessir
theres only one audio fp connection on the board
what games/programs are most important, monitor, how competitive are you
me?
apex legends so i need to hear foot steps
it was great back on the z270e board for asus strix
but this maximus xi board is making me angry
him haha, but ya I'm looking at the asus z390 audio lineup
Ya, the XI hero has the ess es9023p
The strix E and F do not in the z390 lineup, , and the s1220a instead of the s1220
What drivers do you have on it
music and videos are fine, apex legends is whisper quiet
Hello everyone,
The goal of this thread is to post new versions of Realtek HD Audio Drivers (UAD - ASUS ROG/PRIME/TUF) for these motherboards :
Intel : ROG/PRIME/TUF motherboards with 2xx/3xx/4xx series chipsets
AMD : ROG/PRIME/TUF motherboards with 3xx/4xx/5xx series ...
ROG
SS3
since thats what the board uses
Do you like using SS3?
no i have all effects disabled but in order to make apex legends louder i have to use it
Is using the rear jack an option?
ill test it
There is an auto-impedance sensing function, but if rear panel connection is an option, that should be best by far
hey guys i got a question
ive been looking for laptops
and im seeming to like these two laptops but im not too sure on which on to get for school
budget is 350 or below
or we got
let me know your suggestions
back plug isnt any different @little osprey the amplification isnt enough in apex legends
Did you re-calibrate the audio settings and stuff?
There's got to be options you can play around with
I used the z270-h and M9A audio for 2 years, I always tried my best to avoid any of that asus control software
I googled site:reddit.com (name of audio codec of my board) and my headphone model
had to browse a bit before I found non-idiot solutions that were also current
ive tried everything i could think of, nothing really solved my problem even people with same issue as me with hd598 didnt have their issue resolved
@coarse coral You tried messing with windows audio settings? You should be able to change the allowed volume on specific apps, It helped me when I tried, Windows has stupid automatic settings that bring your game volume low and it annoys me.
yep disaabled anything editing sound
@chilly marsh the first link you sent is probably the best one imho. 8gb with and SSD. For schoolwork you most likely won’t need much space if the laptop is for word documents and alike. More space can be added later if you desire. I would only recommend the second laptop if you intend you store a LOT of stuff on it and use the DVD player.
Does anyone knows what could be if my mobo is in an reboot loop
Even without the the cpu coler, ram gpu connected
Need some help pls 😟
@coarse coral you know something about this? 😟
I can try and help @hollow sonnet
@hollow sonnet explain, does it show bios screen?
@coarse coral no, just boot and reboot over and over
would you mind taking a video @hollow sonnet
Ok, sec
also what motherboard is it
yea i was gonna ask that next
Hi, I bought this motherboard due to its immediate availability and excellent review of its VRM. However, I am having issues.
Whenever I turn on the machine, the LED CODE keeps changing but mostly display 4C, C1 and C5. The machine keeps turning on and off automatically. Som...
LOL
jinx
on the forum it said "It happened to me, I had no posting and when I was told to loosen my cooler, that was the problem. Google it is a very common problem. What happens is overtighting it causes the motherboard to warp or bend just enough for the contacts not to line up and/or touch."
take the video click the plus and click the video and hit send
But it doens't appear :( just photos
oh i guess you can only send vidoes on pc
yeah i think taking out the mobo is your best bet
I think the mobo is the problem :(
yes on the forum it said that he put it in to tight and i guess that is what is happening to you so i think you should try and take it out and put it back in @hollow sonnet
Im just about to finish..
looks good
Well.. gonna try :/
cross your fingers
nothing on the post code?
did it work?
Nop
whats that say in manual
Got on the bios 😱
nice
nicc
First time with ssd m.2
can you get it to boot form the bios
I think is ok right?
is what ok
looks good
I think is working 😱
Well got an error
But at least is working
Acpi core initialitation
What that even means xd
is it giving you error 78 on mobo? @hollow sonnet
Yep
1 vote and 3 comments so far on Reddit
Now again..
what?
go into bios and make it if u can
Did it
plugged in the back of the mobo?
But it is like frozen with the aorus logo

uh oh
😟
try a different port
odd
i saw
there was a guy a lil while ago who had this same problem
pick the xmp profile @hollow sonnet
to set it to 3200
it says your xmp is disabled on the other screen
yeah the other guy was having a problem where it was restting to 2133 everytime he would boot up
ok so you got it to 3200
iv'e had problems with my pcs speed when trying to run a game, the fps has not been what it should be and also the CPU speed was also at 2 GHz with a 3.8 GHz CPU. is there a cause to all of this and is there a way to fix these issues that i am having with my computer. also i ...
yeah that too
my neck hurts after trying to read his monitor
its fine i see it say its setting to ddr4-3200
??
just needs a reboot prob
oh yeah a reboot should do it
i doubt this will solve your usb problem tho
they dont seem to be connected
I have mym memory set to 3000MHz
what is native speed
Still 2133

im stumped
my memory native speed is 3000MHz lol
Wierd right?
yeah
Already reboot and is locked
locked how?
what the speed
Wait i thought with Intel it doesn't need like really fast memory speeds 🤔
I cant change the memory frequency, plus is not even booting windows :(
well if he paid for 3200 he wants 3200 not 2133 @latent bronze
question, did you create the windows usb key
Is not necessary, just bought it because i want it
Yep
I have installed window before
With this usb
ok that good
so when the aorus splash screen comes up and you press f12 does the usb show
yeah i saw it in the pic
this is from what
Reaper i got to ask did you just build this system?
i belive so
go into bios
i am not scrolling all the way up it is too much to read
Just did it
k
Are you also sure you set the right drive for booting into?
Is alreadt recognized by the sistem
does it automatically try to boot off of usb
sigh
I manually set my boot options just in case
Aorus one and then frozen
ok
and you've tried booting by pressing f12
ok
you think it is a problem with the bios chip @coarse coral
I think that the bios is corrupted :/
i was thinking the same thing
does the board have a bios flastback
yeah if so you can reinstall the bios or maybe update if needed
What is that? Sorry im from chile, dont know that word
flashback
Have q-flash option
Q-Flash allows the user to quickly and easily upgrade or back up BIOS without entering the operating system.
Gonna try something, installing my old ssd
yeah it s on most high end boards
Wouldn't also removing and putting it back on the battery on the motherboard would reboot the bios?
yeah that could help
yea you need usb with bios on it
going out to get grocery be back in like an hour 😛
cya
and you speak english?
Yeah.. gonna need to borrow a pc
yeah as a final thing try that
To download it
Hey - first time builder. Installing a deepcool Gammax GT BLK on my MSI x570 gaming edge... the silver brackets that came with the cooler don’t quite line up with the holes on the mother board. Am I doing something silly?
😟
i am sorry @hollow sonnet
and i belive you are doing it right from the info i have @mossy crescent
Omg, sorry. Apparently the screws slide on the brackets. Came here as a last resort and managed to get it. Didn’t try fiddling cause I’m so damn scared of breaking something hahaha
so you got it @mossy crescent
Yeah sorry hahaha I didn’t see that the screws on the bracket have some wiggle room to slide in a bit Hahahaha
lol have a good one @mossy crescent
Ty sir
which memory is it
yeah sorry i couldnt help
btw
