Me when <dd~ReleaseDateTime>
i gotta check your board again
custom
shoukld i perform a clean installo?
yes
once installer is completely finished restart the pc
and make sure to check display refresh rate again before heading to the control panel after restart
you got the latest chipset driver installed?
ok
last couple of things you need to do is
-Enable Gsync
-Enable Hags
so head over to your control panel
nvidia control panel
im here
there should be a gsync tab or something
maybe in display settings
i need screenshot
kooroui g2411p
soo am i good?
close nvidia control panel > type graphics on search bar > click advanced graphics settings > and enable these two
if variable refresh rate is greyed out forget about it and toggle gpu scheduling if available
and thats about it
i dont have a vrr
thats fine you can skip that
just enable gpu scheduling and thats it
you can also enable this if you want
ok that should be enough
no more recommendations
enjoy gaming
thank youuu
of course
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/tWbNjn getting incompatability warning for ryzen 5600x tray chip but not for the box version. they should be the exact same right?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600XT, Radeon RX 6600, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
5600x and 5600xt are different chips, 5600xt needs a more recent bios version, 5600x doesn't
What he said, also that psu is iffy
Oh right the one I'm ordering is just the tray chip of 5600x anyway so shouldn't be a problem
How so
It’s only a C on the psu tier list… which is not good. You want like a minimum of B or higher
What difference will that make
Reliability
Imo that PSU seems fine for that build
Yeah I thought so
This won't affect this build in particular then?
Oh so the closer you get to the max power consumption the more unstable it can become that's why it gets given a c ratin
There's multiple factors going into the tier list rating, idk what exactly they are
Alright i guess I'll just stick to that psu but if there are better options around the same price I can change it
$80 is a bit pricy for a c tier 650w so there might be a better option
I forgot to change the location for the link im in Finland so that probably narrows the options a bit
Ah
Msi mag A650BN?
Yeah thats same price as the Corsair one maybe gotta check the psu list to see if its actually better
Ok I can't load Zach's anyways (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻
I mean both Corsair cx650w and msi mag A650BN are in the C tier so im not sure it would really make a difference
Oh I thought it was cheaper
I guess its different over there
Over here its like $30 cheaper

unfortunately is not here
Can anyone help me find a build on Newegg (prebuilt) that’s around $1000 and it can run games pretty good-great?
good-great with a prebuilt 1k budget... thats not gonna go well
best im seeing is 4060ti
but thats refurbished with a bad cpu
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 9600X, Cooler Master Elite 301 MicroATX Mid Tower
this and a gpu will be so much better
probably the best refurb prebuilt under $1000: https://www.newegg.com/msi-gaming-desktop-pc-geforce-rtx-4060-ti-intel-core-i5-14400f-32gb-ddr5-1tb-nvme-ssd-codex-r2-a14nud5-258us-black/p/N82E16883151628?
would it bge able to handle COD decently?
Which COD?
Is that 8gb or 16gb ti
BO6/warzone
Imma guess that's it's probably the 8gb variant
Ikr
Under 1080p you should be fine
Do you want to game at 1080p?
If at 1440p the GPU might cause some stutters due to insufficient vram
12gb or more is needed for 1440p
No it will
I’m pretty sure cod is semi vram heavy
Bro better put textures on low
Lol
Yeah
1080p is fine
I actually saw a 5060ti build on eBay but it was paired with a 5th Gen Intel cpu
Wtf
Ok good
Then it should be ok, just don’t expect all settings maxed

It's not too bad, they still optimize for lower end systems. 8gb would get you medium textures pretty sure
I've had ram issues with it before though 😅 (16gb)
Just can't have a bunch of other things open
Should I buy a aftermarket 12pin connector for a 4070tiS? I have a EVGA 750 GT & it doesn’t have a cable or dedicated port for it
Can I post two laptops for comparrison?
Sure
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-yoga-7i-2-in-1-16-2k-touchscreen-laptop-intel-core-ultra-7-155u-with-16gb-memory-1tb-ssd-storm-grey/6571369.p?skuId=6571369

School requirements are 16 GB of ram and I5/equivalent or higher
I previously used a lenovo yoga for many years
the intel one is a little slower singlecore (~10%) but will probably be more power efficient ((if I'm remembering correctly about the new intel chips)
I have a very similar Dell and it's pretty nice. Main downsides are no backlight keyboard and an all plastic frame
what school related stuff do you need to do on the laptop? any specific programs?
Ironically when I was younger I had an older model of Inspiron lol
I’m going to medical school so probably like anatomical modeling and maybe some research stuff I need to be able to do on the go
the qualcom snapdragon chips are cool but you gotta make sure any programs you want to run will work on ARM
read up
That’s kinda what I was thinking, I’ve heard great things about them but I’m just more familiar with amd then Intel. My Lenovo was an i5-8250u
School
Do you need anything other than taking notes?
Finally got into medical school and they slapped me with a. 16 GB Ram requirement
Here's an idea
Try installing linux on the 8250u
See how it goes
Since that's totally free
So the problem for me is they’re also requiring an iPad so I’m not sure what the laptop needs to do specifically
Still not enough Ram unfortunately
I've got an 8250u as my daily uni carry
might be worth asking IT
What you need the ram for?
Oh I sent a message but alas the holiday deals die today
I wish I could tell you specifically. I know the school is tech focused but I just don’t know what specifics yet
Surprisingly this craptop runs fine for notetaking
My uni offers remote solidworks so
I don't need anything more powerful but your case would be different
If it's just for notetaking and such
And you already have to get an ipad anyways
It might not be a bad idea to try to sit on the 8250u laptop
The only real hardware issues I've had with this thing is running blender renders
But that's going to bring most laptops to its knees anyways
If your laptop has non soldered dimms
You can probably just upgrade the ram
I’m gonna be honest the laptop itself is starting to struggle as it’s 8 years old. Part of that is windows but it’s lagging during updates and all that jazz
Do you think the power efficiency and design of the lenovo are worth the price upgrade? Or maybe the dell if I might need an iPad anyways?
It'd really depends if you need windows
If you don't need windows at all
You would quickly find that Linux just runs a whole lot smoother
As long as you can live without the backlit keyboard I think the dell is a much better deal
I'm only really promoting this option because doesn't really cost much money aside from a ram upgrade
Oofda, windows 11 required. That shuts that down
I like 11 enough but you’re right it’s basically shutting my old device down
Yeah that's why I have to use linux on my work laptop
I don't like perfectly good hardware being wasted
😞
The funny thing is that the NT kernel they got underneath that is solid
It's just that MS doesn't care about making windows run well on lower end/older hardware
Like this isn’t terrible but it is limiting
I wonder if a used macbook would be better at this rate
Then again used macbook pros go for a premium
Bro
Because of apple tax
Macos is not windows
I'm wondering if their uni allows macs
Oh it does say windows specs
Yeah that's what I'm wondering
Although it'd be difficult to find a decent macbook pro with 16gb ram for cheap
So that's probably a stupid idea
I doubt a used MacBook would be more woth it than a windows laptop
It does say windows machine, would I have to sideload windows or something?
Ehhhhh
Yeah these specs are a pain
Definitely not a macbook
Are you willing to get refurbs?
I might just go with the lenovo because I’m used to that model and whatnot. School’s expensive enough lol, might as well have a good laptop
Never tried it
I wouldn't buy based off of model
You might be able to get a pretty solid laptop for a lot cheaper just by going refurb
This
ooh
The quality isn't consistent from one year to the next for a lot of models
there's soem deals on ryzen ai 340 laptops, it seems to beat both the 7730u and 155u
only 6 core but that seems fine for a laptop tbh
That's well enough tbh
I think power efficiency is more important
Is it 2p/4e tho
Ehhhhh
The one on bestbuy unfortunately only has 512 of storage
512 is honestly not bad if you aren't downloading big games
I'd definitely go with ryzen
Having only 2 p cores can hurt a lot on certain cases
I'd be more comfortable with 4 p cores
this is 16" which is kinda big but it's also 2k
This is that same laptop right?
still looks pretty thin to me
I'm a bit mixed on HPs
As long as you're not going to upgrade it they're fine
They hate people messing around in them
But if you don't do that you're good
I believe this has the exact same specs but it's a 2-in-1
Ok
You gotta ask him to wipe that "the best" mindset off
It's more cost effective to just upgrade the gpu every couple years
While spending the same amount of money over a longer period of time
And he'd get better performance at the end of it
He just doesn’t know ANYTHING about pc
Ok so
Golden rule
The "best" pc is something that will last you a while
And not in the "future proofing" sense
In the sense that you can easily upgrade it
What is the use case?
Gaming
Well it’s a whole setup I think
Monitor, kb, mouse, etc
What games does he play?
Wtf
Mfs at thermalright made the RK120 cheap
They can't keep getting away with this
apex, fortnite, cod, soon to be gta6
hes also upgrading from a ps4
also he doesnt really care about looks
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Montech XR Wood ATX Mid Tower
hes buying end of summer
oh
nvm
disregard that list
he should ask the list when he's ready to buy
the market changes a lot in even a week
well to give him something around what he wnats
$1.8K to $2K
it might be cheaper at the end of summer
which is...?
when?
Is that September in the northern hemisphere?
yeah the market's going to change a lot
this list would not really represent any thing realistic
example: the ram
I'm recommending 6400CL32 because it's the cheapest kit atm
he wants smth to have like any understanding
its not
the thing is
6000mhz cl30 is 86$ rn
the 6400CL32 $74.99
shows 91.99 for me
also
asrock board so no 9800x3d
my guy he has 3k
I thought looks weren't necessary?
i mean it is a good cooling upgrade
yeah that thing is overpriced for what it is
forzen prism is $61
aqua elite is 50
tbh better to get frozen infinity for 57
fair
he needs everything though
you know what
swapping the case
since motherboard
usually I just wouldn't go with the X870
but the bundle
wait is that asrock
ehhhhhhh
yeah thats why i didnt put 9800x3d
bundle is locked
with a different 9070XT
he does want a white build btw
sigh
oh nvm
oh
black build
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Montech XR Wood ATX Mid Tower
~$2100
that says 2300 for me
this is probably the best perf/$ rn
5080 still around 1.7x the price of a 9070XT
it's going to be radically different around september
That's the one thing I'm sure about in this crapfest market
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WXzYzP
what im thinking
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
he says "looks dont matter but just not ugly"
also he needs kb/m
the one look kinda ugly
my advice is for him to go to a shop and test all the keyboard switches out
keyboards are highly subjective
those DONT exist around here
oh right
I'd look for something with red or brown switches
those are generally decent
Keychron makes decent keyboards
that's the only one I can think of off the top of my head
#peripherals-and-displays might be able to help more
is a k70 pro mini good
highly subjective
depends on preference
oh wait it's corsair
no
overpriced crap
only ones i found with the stuff you said
pcpp isn't good for for keyboards
highly subjective
k3 v2 ultra slim?
depends on preference
.
well is it in some way objectively bad
ok ima just do the k3 v2
don't buy from mainstream brands
there might be better options
keychron was just the first one I can think of
well this is a template remember
I'd ask #peripherals-and-displays
its for end of summer
eh sure
I can't help with mice
since It's not really an area I've really looked into
I'd imagine you use a left handed keyboard the same way
you just have the movement keys binded differently
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/4yzYzP
i cant find a mouse rn
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
i just sent him this
ill just finalize it when hes actually buying
You'll need a completely new list by then
What should I do when I tested my ram using memtest and there were like 50 errors and it was not even 2 tests yet, should I just buy new ram or just stick with it since it works fine besides some crashing with some applications?
Best to mess with it and tune it until stable if possible
What’s best budget keyboard 50-80 max
razer viper v2 pro is $80 rn
I meant keyboard I just typed it wrong lol
Ok so general overview -
Glass mouse pad ($?)
Light wireless mouse ($?)
Keyboard (~100$)
Yard sale desk (10$?)
Chair ($?)
Pc (1650-1700$)
Monitors (350-450$)
I think that’s good no?
with that budget get oled
Yeah I said 220$ for a 1440p 240hz or if you can find a deal for a 350 OLED get that
at that budget I'd still get an oled even if it's 4-500
or get a cheap 1440p panel and use that while waiting for an oled sale i guess. But with tarrifs and stuff i dunno if we'll see sales for a while
How can I go on about tuning and stuff, I haven't really messed with settings for any of my parts
He decided he is
I don't think I'm the person to ask for peripherals
nvm
USA
Wants to do all black and white
Needs to stay under $1000
Wants to play Hogwarts, Skyrim, and Game of thrones kings road.
1440 is nice but will settle for 1080p whichever is doable in the budget
Prefers to be new but used if need be
if I have b550 m pro 4 motherboard and I want to add a new 2 tb ssd, which one should I get?
i plan to put it under the m.2 armor heat sync to be my main ssd. But would putting an ssd with a heatsync under the other armor heatsync bad

$2080 after code LEVELUP20
It's direct from HP as well so you'd get like $60 in rewards points
microcenter re-released the 7600x3d again & I’m wondering if it’s even worth to get it compared to the 7800x3d
I mean whether I pair with a 7800xt, 9070xt, or 4070tiS, I could compare their current sell price but there’s used on marketplace, 7600x3d for 250$, 7800x3d for $300
I'd probably spend the extra $50 for the 7800x3d. 6 cores isn't bad these days but 8 is likely more "future proofed" (ikik not the best phrase but if you're intending to use it through multiple gpu upgrades $50 is probably worth for the extra 2 cores)
The 7600x3d is in that weird middle ground
Where if you're spending that much on a cpu already
It's probably not a bad idea to just spend the extra for 7800X3D
Yeah too little too late
Seems cool but in practice its not as good as you would think
Yeah the price makes it ehhh
3D V-cache is nice and all but like
The price makes it kinda mediocre overall
I'd rather have the cores and the vcache
Well hopefully I can sell my CPU soon
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/YHCwXR Rx 7600 went on offer and now it's basically the same price as 6600 where I am so does this build work?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 7600, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
USD?
Nvm you’re from Finland, the build works completely.
yeah i am idk how you knew but thanks
I looked at previous chats lol
no euros it's on 20% discount on german amazon and i get free shipping from there
Hmm how much is it to get AM5?
Like go onto aliexpress and see the price of probably the cheapest 7500F with most orders, then German amazon for the ddr5 board and ram
probably quite a bit more im getting the tray chip version of ryzen 5 5600x its a lot cheaper its like 99 euros for the chip and then 140 for the box already
Ohhh gotcha, the 7500F is also just the tray + chip
Oh ya nvm then, I do see some 5600/5600x for 95-103 euros
am4 will still be fine for a while right?
Oh ya for sure, it’s still getting some support + new chips here and then
some other person said before that the power supply has a low ranking so its not going to be as good. do you think that would make a difference in this build?
Are you getting your psu off of Amazon Germany?
no im getting it off of proshop.fi a finnish site its 57 euros currently down from 72
the corsair cx650
You should be fine with the amount of power you’re going to draw, if you can find anything else within that price range send it here & we’ll see if it’s possibly any better or not
Just with no modular psu’s, one cable goes out you have to replace the whole thing
is that a common issue
Cx650 is alright
alright so no bad history with cables going out?
That's more of a 12vhpwr issue
What cpu and gpu are you gonna have?
ryzen 5 5600x and rx 7600
you'll be fine
alright thanks
#build-pics message
@gentle sigil very nice, how is the Winwing side stick? Is it worth getting, or do you think I should go with the TM one?
I have a winwing ursa minor fighter stick, it's all plastic given the price, but it has all the buttons you'll need. Works pretty well for the price. Be careful with shipping, they stopped shipping globally to the US, only available from their US storefront now.
Oh its 1000000 times better than the TM one the Captains Pack came with. The TM side stick is junk imo. It has a crap potentiometer for the twist z-axis that goes bad, making the plane completely unflyable. I would have to tear the thing apart every 4-5 months to clean it which helped some, but never fixed it. Then got to the point where no matter what I did, it would twitch and crap....so dumped it. The Winwing is better built quality wise, super accurate, and a bonus, using the SimAppPro from Winwing, it will sync with the sim and vibrate during ground roll, spoiler extension, etc. just adds some tactile feedback.
I will have to check it out then, thanks
Will an 850w power source work with a 5070, x870 mobo, and a 9800x3D?
im new to pc building and was wondering if all these parts are compatible, also if you have any suggestions i would greatly appreciate it (Budget is $1600 Canadian)
howdy
i need some help
i have a b650 gaming x ax v2 board and it only has 4 sata slots. i need at least 3 more would a sata controller work in it?
Sure will! I have the 9800X3D/RTX 5080 Astral/x670e mobo with an 850 and I am well below utilization even at load
I know this might be an obvious question but somebody who’s selling a 7800x3d either wants $350 cash, or my 13600k + $200 on top of that, probably a bad deal right?
Considering it's $385 new rn (and I think has been $350 new fairly recently), yeah that's bad
Your main options are either grabbing a pcie sata card or putting them all in enclosures and using them as external drives via USB
Decided to finally put SteamOS(Official, not Bazzite) on my HTPC. was pretty easy to install and it'd be pretty easy to build PC's like this for console gamers trying to go to PC. Assuming they don't want to play games with Anti Cheats.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, Radeon RX 6700 XT, darkFlash DLH21 Mini ITX Tower
Not all anti cheat games are bricked on linux
Well yeah, but the bigger console games, Cod, Apex, and Fortnite I believe are.
Valorant and R6 Siege as well.
Thats why all of them blocked linux
Apex used to work on Linux but they blocked it earlier this year.
I’m happy for that
The cheaters almost all died
Question: motherboard dram light turned orange but it still boots. I was having issues with the PC not posting but now it works and bios works
Should I still replace it?
I don't look at my motherboard lights unless something's wrong
This
the debug legs light up on boot
unless soemthing's wrong
it's completely normal
sweet
hello
Can someone please help me in finding a certain tpm chip for my motherboard?
what wiring do i need for rtx 3050, i7-4790, and dell motherboard 06X1TJ (SOCKET 0)(OEM) for my psu
check dell's website
can u send a link to the page
idk what pc u have
so i cant give u specifics
but

ty
if I wanted a mini pc for gaming but my budget is around 200, which would be my best option?
Do you really need a mini pc?
ehh i dont know if i want to buy a whole pc
can I get gaming capable pc for this budget?
It generally costs quite a bit more to have a mini pc that can game as well
Im just in my college dorm and cant take my pc from home
Depends on your games
You can look around on the used market
$200 is pretty tight but not undoable
You won't be able to play newer and more graphically intensive titles
But older games should run
GTA V can probably run on a GT 1030 level gpu
Something like this wouldn't be bad
i mean itll play like retro games and like... super super low end games
Nah
That's an exaggeration
could this run valorant low graphics or rematch at all
You can at least run GTA V on medium
Thing's got an RX 5500 for some stupid reason
that would work graphics wise
Even the igpu can run GTA V at low
Well I’m going to be waiting for awhile but
Should I hook up my PA120 RGB to my built in fan controller on the back of my case? Originally I had it separate, cycle through “modes” to eventually have it sync’d
I did this & the RGB just decided to not work, love Lian li 😭

What could I order to replace this?
can I order a singular one of those nut things
the one thats missing on the top left
Is that for the cooler or the nut for my the cpu holder?
pretty sre its for the cooler
like the bracket that you put under the mobo and then attach the things on the front and then the b rackets and then the cooler
ykwim
ya do you know what brand?
for the cooler, could probably order a replacement kit off of amazon
nah I'm not sure, its for my bud and we got the mobo from one of our other friends who got it from one of his friends who got it from one of his friends
But if those nut things and the thing behind the mobo all come with a cooler then I'll just order a whole new one that fits the mobo and the cpu
Anyone wana give a hand left my computer on last night woke up to a speaker making funny noises no display gpu fans arnt turning upon restart gpu fans still don’t turn and cpu and dram debug lights stay on
Take out the ram and reseat them
I took them both out and only put one back in and nothing changed
I just don’t understand how it killed itself this bad in the middle of night running
I can’t even get the damn cmos battery out there rubbber or something stopping me from getting it released
You can short a header actually
Mobos have a cmos reset header
It depends on your board, so tell me about the board you have
Asrock b850m-x
Hold on, gimme a sec
So you wanna find the cmos reset header by looking at around bottom right of your board
The header is labeled CLRCMOS1
You'll want to short it with a metallic object
Short it while of is unplugged right
Yep
You need to unplug your pc and turn it off
Short it for 5-10 seconds
Then you should be done
Try booting after
Mhm
Still same bs
Unless it didn’t actually clear but I used a Philips head so it shoulda
Ok this mobo only has 2 slot
Still nothing
Think it could be cpu
CPU is usually least likely
I'd suspect the ram or board
You can't really verify without having a different set of ram however
I’ll have a buddy bring some ram sticks over
is it worth to build a pc now or its expensive
Nvm he don’t have what I thought he did
Any other suggestions to try or just start unloading the parts cannon
Uhh..
Well
You can always buy something
Keep the packaging in one piece
Parts cannon is the only way with PCs
It is worth
Do you live in the Us?
Like have access to Amazon?
If you do, just buy this for now, if it isn’t a ram issue you could always return it. https://a.co/d/ihDhTj9
If it’s a CPU issue that’s a different story sadly
Actually wait it might not be a cpu or ram problem
I’d start a warranty claim with Asrock, if you look into more of the Asrock subreddit there’s a lot of people complaining about their boards randomly dying, same scenario as you @severe lava
And some are non x3d chips which apparently have more of an issue? Not to assume or anything but either Asrock has had a bad batch of boards released, or their recent BIOs version slowly killed their motherboards. Did you update in the past 2 months or bought the board recently?
is this true chat
I just need my cpu to not die during this summer semester
After that, idc that much
Itll be a hassle but I wont be doing anything super important
Im putting my old parts together and getting some new ones to complete the build
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/rCmgxg
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Radeon RX 6600, Cooler Master MasterBox NR200 Mini ITX Desktop
Thoughts
Im gonna buy this used sf750 for myself and then put my current unit into this build
It's not proven that the CPUs are dying yet, just the root cause is the motherboard
Yeah its whatever settings they have in their bios
It could make sense that the CPU dies yes, but after shut off or something like that?
Something is sending too much voltage
The guy above in this chat is having the same issue
& it looks like an only AM5 problem atm
The cpu was in sleep
oh that mode nvm then
I use sleep all the time but I dont use windows
But it is their bios because some people have or fix black screens after updating/rolling back
Im on an old revision, curious to see what thats gonna do
3.15
Ya no sleep messed with my old 6650xt drivers, I mean the 6650xt was buggy asf but sleep just instantly ruined it
As long as it doesnt die for the next two months, i dont care
Dang
unless i've missed posts in r/asrock
Yup I am hoping that this version has some change that makes it behave differently than the newer ones
From what I see 3.20 is not a good revision
somebody's Asrock PC died on 3.10
I'd honestly undervolt
Yeah I am on -50 rn and locked my soc
that's good
The soc voltage is super stable when its manual btw
Kinda impressive ngl
I had hwinfo open for 8 hours and vsoc did not move at all
Not even 0.001
damn that's insane
Honestly it might be CPUs dying, I thought it'd be the motherboard frying itself or the socket atleast
Any known issues with MSI 600 chip set boards currently?
Almost as if these asrock boards have some hidden voltages that cant be adjusted by us or something
Nah its almost exclusively an asrock thing
According to this article you guessed right
I am wondering about the boards because my 9950x3D arrives on Monday.
But lets see. I have a very aggressive undervolt and locked vsoc. I think there is something the boards are doing that we cant control
Unless these boards people buy are enabling pbo by default
But that doesnt make sense to me
Pbo must be manually turned on, because even though its not by much, the cpu is still running out of spec
I assume most asrock posters do not have pbo on because they dont mention it. Not everybody uses pbo, and I think most people dont
Interesting
They say their pbo limits are in spec, but still aggressive. Why would the limit amd specified be killing cpus? Pbo only increases clocks by 200 max
Iirc the 9950x3D can be cooled down a lot better because they flipped the V-cache or something like that?
I think you could say, 'not stonks'
You would expect their pbo settings to be out of spec if they are killing cpus, otherwise amd would have a lower limit for those settings
So I think asrock is trying to cover their ass rn
They are trying to fix the issue without being public about it
Annoying but that makes sense from a corporate view.
But like they arent trying to be malicious
They will help you rma
They have good support but are trying to keep this stuff down
Probably to not scare the normies or something idk

I am so fed up with having to do RMAs for CPUs at this point I really don't want to start worrying about the boards....
Yeah just avoid asrock for a bit
Or probably a while idk when this will be fixed, because there are no updates on this stuff
Does this mean intel sent me a used CPU?
I think good just means that it works
Like pass/fail
Idk though
I have never done rma before so I am just guessing
I have never had to RMA an Intel CPU so I don't know.
Does it work? If so then personally I wouldn't worry about it.
I’m honestly debating on keeping my 12600kf in 😭
I’ll probably rip it out later tonight though
Just it runs so smooth with no issues on the degrading blah blah blah so
Are 13/14th gen chips still degrading???
If people don’t update to the latest bios
But I’m not even 100% if the new bios stops the degrading
why GPUs are so expensive nowadays :/
hello trying to make a compact pc but can seem to find overall good case for it. link below is the setup i made. any tips or changes would be awesome
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 9700X, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GeForce RTX 5070 Ti, Lian Li A3-mATX MicroATX Mini Tower
this includes a case
and a much better cpu
for just slightly more
here's the thing about compact pc builds
A system in a well designed MATX case really is a lot cheaper
while still being reasonably compact
The only thing I've kept is the gpu which I assume you have a way of getting at that price
Sexy 😛
Yes
Hi!
I accidentally ordered 6400 CL36 RAM instead of the 6000 CL30 RAM (2 dollar difference on Amazon) for a 9800x3d build. Is it stable at that speed or should I just return this and get the 6000 CL30? Thanks!
Sorry just seen this I do live in us and the pc was built earlier this year all parts were ordered in January cpu is a 7500f havnt had a problem with anything till now
If it isn't stable you can go into bios and reduce the speed down to 6200 or 6000 with about 60s of time.
Yeah and adjust the timings accordingly
Although
I think in that case 6000 cl30 would still be faster
If it was 6400 cl32, then I would get it and see if it runs, and then downclock if the cpu cant run it
And mobo recommendations replacing my b850m-x that I think crapped itself
would recommend just getting it RMA'd
FantasTech worth to wait for it?
just send some of the "in your budget" ones here & we can get it figured out. Your CPU may be dead though, don't take my word for it
Anyone free to help with a first time pc build?
I have some extra cables that I’m not sure where they go
The cpu is from Ali express szcpu I did plan on upgrading it soon anyway
Can anybody give me tips or something rq
My pc was running fine after I had to replace my mobo but now i will randomly have the screen go black and after a few seconds the pc seems to restart with no video output and nothing but my keyboard turning off
I hear the windows launch sound but never see anything and I have to restart it myself to use it again
I thought it was my gpu overheating again but it just happened while I was idle watching a video on undervolting
Already updated gpu drivers and reseated the card
Anything show up in event viewer?
Send pictures or describe them
Well I was getting ready to check and it just happened again it’s never happened within a few minutes of each other before
First thing to check is anything software, either drivers or some other piece of software crashing
Ok now it’s happening without actually getting in to windows
So my Ma gave me her old Laptop an I'm not sure if I can Upgrade the 250 GB HDD to a 1 or 2 TB SSD. I know I can upgrade the Ram from a 3GB to 8GB.
Is it crashing while in bios or...?
What laptop is it?
I would see the asrock logo then right after it would go black and boot without video
I’m in now looking at eventvwr
And I can’t get in to safe mode because it claims there’s an issue with my pin and have to set it up
Oh yeah it is enabled because I think valorant made me turn it on or something
Sfc scan found nothing
The problem now is the graphics card is not fitting (after assembling everything else)
I was recommended parts here from some veterans and they all came together from partpicker so I’m wondering if this was expected and I have to open to back fan wall or if it was a mistake
And these are the cables I couldn’t find homes for
@stoic island
The speaker one is unneeded unless you’re doing diag
It really sucks, I was following guides and the graphics card was always last so I find this out at the very end 😅
Also taking out the back wall is a pain and hard to reach the screws
@earnest olive
@deep skiff
Idk if you guys remember me but I was here like 6 months ago
Hello..?
Looks like the GPU fits as long as you get it into the lip there
I always put a speaker in my systems 😂. Could be a 4K$ and I'll still put one in for the lolz.
From the first one there, first is a small speaker, second is sata, third is front panel cluster, idk what fourth is showing, a fan? fifth is argb, sixth I can't tell alone, need more context
The 2 1 prong I couldn’t get to fit in the only 2 1 prong on the mobo. I couldn’t find a fan cable for the case, it seems to just go directly to the chip on the case and to the fans, nothing to mobo.
None of these are essential, right?
sounds like it's probably just using sata power? but wdym 2 1 prong
That looks like 3 pin argb there
can you take a picture from further away so we could see where it's coming from?
What is it for?
argb, lighting
actually if both of those cables came from the same place, top is 3 pin argb, bottom is 4 pin pwm, it's for the fan hub thing in the case
it will likely also take sata power from your PSU
Looking for help still - new pc build won’t start
Anything come on?
first check 24pin on the right and eps12v on the top left
Everything’s plugged in supposedly
check that the PSU switch on the back is on
Im trying to find what is making it not at least turn on but it seems that all cables are seated
We were in #general-chat tryna help too
I have pressed hard on everything
Are you booting using the start button or are you pressing a screw driver against the mobo pins?
if you're using the case button, check to make sure the pwr switch is plugged into the right position in the cluster
test it without the case button plugged in and jump the 2 pins labeled as the power switch too
Yeah he sent a pic and there are 5 pins on the bottom so it seems like its in the right spot
Top 2 right
Top 2 left is pled
test jumping these two pins with a screwdriver or anything metal
case buttons are sometimes faulty
Brutal if true
Was it flipped by chance
The +- was backwards
Yup 😭

Crazy that tiny cable controls everything
Now…what do I do
What do people to do get OS nowadays?
And download whatever OS
There’s a stick inside?
Well you need to have a usb stick/dongle/flash drive with windows OS on it
Mb
Do you have that done?
Both
How much storage is on it?
If it’s over 8gb then that’s fine, go plug it into your laptop, clear everything off of it
Then probably downloading for windows, just type in windows 11 (or 10) download
Clear everything as in running in background?
I recommend iso because when you download the installation media you have to wait a while for it to install itself
With the iso you download it from the website and thats it
Yeah
Ok I’m downloading it
Next step?
I imagine it’s Boot
@snow dragon
There’s Tool —> Instant Flash
It’s saying the file is too big which makes no sense
It’s a 64 gb usb
There’s nothing on the flash
@manic cloak
You should have it downloaded inside the USB if possible
Otherwise compress it, then drop it in, then uncompress it
I changed the format, now it’s downloading
@manic cloak what do I do once I have the download?
Ya plug it in into your new pc and try to download the OS on it
Acer 7741-6445
It might be easiest to take it out to see the size, doesn't seem to list it anywhere, there's a decent chance it's a 2.5in hdd so you can just grab any 2.5in ssd
Thats what i throught as well cause all Laptops is 2.5
Sometimes it's in a thinner form factor, sometimes it's the normal 15mm or whatever thickness, sometimes it's the full 3.5in, not listed in the manual so best to open it up to check
Ok I'll do that when I get home an I can safely say I can get a SSD instead of a HDD?
The two things to check is the size and the connector
First to check it's standard 2.5in with whatever thickness it is, and then to check that it uses normal sata connectors
If you're not sure, take a picture and we can try to eyeball it
I might just do that instead
So I’m no longer getting any video output whatsoever outside of sometimes in bios. I have a spare nvidia gpu I can put in to test if that’s the issue but my current card is an AMD. Will I still be able to boot in to windows using the nvidia card?
Check if you can
I can unfortunately I still can’t get in to safe mode for some reason but I ran ddu and I’m installing nvidia drivers and I’ll test to see if that’s fixed it tomorrow
If so that means I got screwed out of 260 bucks I guess
Already spent extra bc I got screwed on my motherboard and then forgot my ssd on the board when I returned it
Weird question. I don't think this question exists on Google anywhere, otherwise I wouldn't be asking here. I have a 13700K with a very meh motherboard. It's some H610 motherboard with meh VRMs. Idk if it has a way to limit the power of the CPU. But if it does, I'd probably limit it to 65W
My question: would this help keep the motherboard from taking a dump on me (given its VRM configuration)? What about for cooling the CPU? I'd probably get an AIO for the CPU anyways, but I thought I'd ask about cooling the CPU anyways
Please ping me when answering, as I’m not always on Discord
In theory yes. In terms of CPU coolers, there are actually a bunch of coolers that are designed in a way that allows for some airflow over the vrms (e.g. Liquid Freezer II)
Adding some cheap heatsinks on the vrms might help a bit too
In terms of limiting the CPU, I've only done it on Linux and on a Ryzen laptop on windows but I'd imagine there's software that can limit the power the CPU can draw for intel platforms
If it helps, this would be going into a Cooler Master NR200P V2. I’ve been thinking about setting the AIO to intake, given that there wouldn't be much airflow going from the bottom up into the case
Ehhhhh
It'll be on Bazzite OS. Idk if that's an option
The thing is
You're putting the vrms which are already pretty stressed
Into a case with sub-optimal airflow
Yeah you can probably just run a script
I use auto-cpufreq to limit my cpu freq
I have kind of a fallback solution anyways. I have an AMD bored, which I'll probably get a 5700X3D to go with it. Still better than the 12100F that’s currently in the system
Well I'm more worried about everything combined
If you had ideal airflow
You could probably get away with it
But with this case?
I'm a bit skeptical
The airflow is already restricted in this form factor
It's just kinda hard to have proper airflow lol. Small case lmao
Unless I just jump to the 5700X3D option. I have another mITX AM4 bored and plenty of DDR4
Does it have decent vrms
Hmm
But it's another basic A520 board, so probably not
Does it at least have a heatsink
It would probably handle a 5700X3D better than the other board and a 13700K
Over the vrms
Ngl idk about that either
Ehhhhhh
I need to get ready for work. I'll probably just explore my options when I get to work. I want this Bazzite build to work properly. Maybe even be a family gaming machine
Here's a couple things you should consider when you have free time:
-VRM configurations of the motherboard (Is it good enough to handle the CPU)
-VRM cooling (Does it have a heatsink, can you help cool the VRMs by other means, such as a CPU cooler that provides a bit of airflow over the VRMs)
-CPU demand on the VRMs
-Case airflow (VRMs are going to get toasty if the CPU draws a lot of power and the airflow is sub-optimal)
Another important thing is too see how a VRM responds to given load, the better the vrm the smoother it responds to voltage changes
as far as i know the only way to test this is by just looking online for someone whos done it
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, Jonsbo D32 PRO MicroATX Desktop
This is a pc part picked list I made for a friend, originally he made his & it was about the same price, just AM4, buying mostly all brand new.
He had the gpu in his list too, but this doesn’t. Now we’re trying to figure out which GPU to throw in, not going over $350, originally we both had planned the 6600 & there’s an open box at my MC for $176 (before tax) but that’s been thrown out of the question
We have either a 5060 for $240, or a 9060xt 16gb for $295. (All before tax)
Resolution is at 1080p, I’ve looked at videos from gamers nexus & various people, performance is just everywhere.
nr200 airflow is pretty good
Same goes for most popular itx cases
You can also fit a thermalright evo cooler in it
If you want some vrm cooling you can get those mini towers
Part of the fan will be under the fins
isnt the cooler cooling the vrms arswell>?\
The one in the pic?
yeah
Probably a little bit but it is pretty tall
Most of the air is gonna be going towards the power supply because that one is set up as a rear intake
Although if you use the 5700x3d, I wouldn't worry about vrm temps because that cpu doesnt use that much power @analog hearth
That’s what I’m thinking
Plus an AIO would be cheaper. I wouldn't need a (surprisingly expensive) 280mm. I could just get a normal 240mm
ID-COOLING IS-55 BLACK CPU Cooler Low Profile 55mm Height CPU Air Cooler 5 Heatpipes CPU Fan 120x120x15mm Slim Fan, Compatible with LGA 1700 Cooler, Intel/AMD
Or maybe you can spend a little more and get a thermalright aio
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/zBn8TW/asrock-a520m-itxac-mini-itx-am4-motherboard-a520m-itxac
motherboard btw
Oh thats like my old b550 but with a different chipset
Idk about cooler clearance. I have an NR200P V2. The GPU is vertically mounted
I’m worried about VRMs
There are a lot of vrms on that board lol
Nothing to worry about?
yeah
I’ve been building PCs for years and I’ve never taken the time to understand VRMs lol
Also, motherboard if going Intel
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/M6t9TW/asus-prime-h610i-plus-d4-csm-mini-itx-lga1700-motherboard-prime-h610i-plus-d4-csm
Brutal 4+2
Lmao
What if I went with something like a 14400F or 13400F? Cheaper than a 5700X3D and I could probably get away with using the same cooler I already have
Whats the cooler
Noctua NH-L9i-17xx
Oh I see i thought you already had the ryzen
Yeah if thats cheaper then get the intel
I have two routes I could go, given that I have mITX boards of both platforms
Oh ok
Originally wanted to go Ryzen (like loooong ago) but that didn’t work out so I ended up switching to Intel
Yeah you could get the 65w and then orient the cooler so the fins are parallel to the vrm to get some air over there
Hmmm okay
are you tryna overclock the cpu to its limits? is that why you care about the vrms soo much?
I coolers aren't expensive either if I find that I have to upgrade anyways
Just a Bazzite OS build
Nah its cuz the intel board has few vrms and he has a 13700k

Yeah that was my original plan 💀 obviously not the best plan
If you use that lp and the 65w then that should be ok

Maximum turbo power is 148W 😭 I guess we'll see
Would have to be mITX. It's going into an NR200P
man i used to know this youtuber that would make the best videos on vrms
gosh i cant find him
the most important metric for a vrm its is response, i doubt vrm type changing based on motherboard size should relate pretty well
I wonder if the board has some options for low power mode or disabling max turbo or something about c state
If I kill the board, oh well. I guess I was bound to get a 5700X3D anyways lol
It might? I'd have to check
But it wont go to 148 gaming
Thats when you run cinebench
Or render something that hits the cpu
I might get a 13400 instead of a 13400F just for the iGPU. When I blow up the board, I can still use my ATX Z790 motherboard with this CPU for self hosted projects
I’m pretty sure I can limit the power on that board
(I also don't know how to run headless servers yet, so graphics are a must in CPUs for me rn lol)
Ooooh plus 0% APR financing with Amazon
That’s a bet
Arrives Thursday. I leave to go out of town that day 🫠

(And yes I have the motherboard updated. I updated it like two days ago)
At least it has a heatsink
