Just look at the notches and you'll know what direction stuff goes in
If it doesn't match up either way you turn it, then it's probably incompatible with that slot

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

Yeah you'll know when it slots in

#

The storage slots for m.2 are very specific

vocal hare
#

You do have to insert it at an angle

#

It’s not flat or nothing

rain carbon
#

Yall he already left lol

He was on demon time to read that bedtime story

broken barn

these lil suckers are in the way

that black thingy

cyan ravine
#

Those little suckers look like you turn them to slot the storage in then they hold it down

#

Check the manual for how they work

#

I don't have anything like that

rain carbon

Wait can i delete your messages?

Also put it in the main slot

vocal hare
#

No the first slot is above the slot your gpu goes in

#

Under that heatsink

rain carbon

Maybe the main slot is the friends we made along the way

cyan ravine
vocal hare
#

And I’m almost willing to bet it has a ez latch for the nvme

cyan ravine

It might do

Considering the third slot has one

@cyan ravine

#

there we go

rain carbon
broken barn
rain carbon
#

Well not really he's an aussie but just gone atm

broken barn
#

bruh it’s the gen 5 thing

#

i don’t even think my nvme is gen 5

#

screwing ts back on

#

wait no seems correct

#

i think

rain carbon
#

Gen doesnt really matter there

#

M.2 is a form factor, as long as it fits in that its good

broken barn
#

guys i’m scared i just did something

#

@rain carbon i was putting the cpu, and it wasn’t fully actually in, so i slid it in, i kinda just pushed it, it seemed smooth but im nervous

#

it should be fine

rain carbon
#

If you nudge it around a bit horizontally does it feel secure?

broken barn
#

i took it back out to look at the pins

#

a-ok

broken barn
#

ima put a pee size glob of thermal paste and close it

rain carbon
rain carbon
broken barn
#

what about the thermal paste

rain carbon
#

It would get stuck on the socket cover

#

Socket cover gets popped off when you latch it

broken barn
#

ohh

#

okay so close it for now

#

i will close

rain carbon
#

Just make sure its fully in

broken barn
#

wait are you sure close it, it wasn’t this elevated when the cpu wasn’t in

rain carbon
#

Know that it will take a good ass bit of force

jagged ember
#

That's the aformentioned socket cover

broken barn
#

LOL

rain carbon
broken barn
#

so this is the part where i close it

jagged ember
#

The cover needs to be off before

#

You apply thermal paste and cooler

broken barn
#

i thought it pops off when i close it

jagged ember
#

I'm sure you've seen builds before

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

Clearly you haven't closed and locked the retention pin

rain carbon
#

That level slides in that little thing

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

Ohh gotcha

rain carbon
broken barn
#

very so plez be extra simple with me

cyan ravine
jagged ember
#

Honestly then yeah

cyan ravine
#

I thought "Surely I don't need to redraw the arrow"

jagged ember
#

That's why I assumed he wasn't new

broken barn
rain carbon
jagged ember
#

Pull the lever all the way down and slip it underneath the little hook

broken barn
#

bet

rain carbon
#

You want it to make contact with the pins, otherwise the cpu wont work

#

Dont worry about damaging the pins, just dont go past the hook

broken barn
#

so like this

#

i didn’t do it yet but like this?

#

just push it down

rain carbon
#

Yurp

broken barn
#

okay i’m scared lemme do it

#

wish luck

rain carbon
#

It feels scarier than it actually is

broken barn
#

it… came off, beautifully

cyan ravine
#

@broken barn

#

Oh

#

Decent sign

broken barn
jagged ember
#

Instead of a video send a screen recording of camera lol

rain carbon
#

Sweet

#

Perfect

broken barn
cyan ravine
#

Can you rq

#

Just for me

rain carbon
#

Now you can apply paste

cyan ravine
#

Open that back up

#

Leaving the cpu in

#

Wiggle it in the slot

broken barn
#

oh i did

#

i can do it again

cyan ravine
#

Ok excellent

#

No no

broken barn
#

okay

cyan ravine
#

That was the hard part

#

Or

#

Was

#

Until ssd in wrong slot

#

Continue

broken barn
#

my dirty fingers have stained the cpu very little

cyan ravine
broken barn
#

see that

cyan ravine
#

If anything good

#

Paste has grease in it

#

Cpus like greasy fingers

broken barn
#

so a glob of thermal paste right down the middle

#

and then it should be good?

#

pea sized

#

?

jagged ember
#

Technically an X gives the best coverage

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

There's no such thing as too much

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

Paste is non conductive

jagged ember
#

It just gets messy if it spills out

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

But it's fine

cyan ravine
#

Hasn't been an issue for "too much" for half a decade

cyan ravine
broken barn
rain carbon
#

But yeah ive put more paste than neccesary once

#

Its fine

cyan ravine
rain carbon
#

Just a pain to clean

cyan ravine
#

Draw a cross over it

jagged ember
#

Hence messy

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

And put 4 dots between the spaces in the cross

rain carbon
#

Thin

cyan ravine
#

1 in each space around the X

#

You'll be fine

rain carbon
#

But covering the plate

cyan ravine
#

That's more than enough

rain carbon
#

More contact with paste = the better

broken barn
rain carbon
#

Weird looking x

broken barn
#

did i do good

rain carbon
#

Also holy glob kekw

broken barn
#

or bad holy glob

rain carbon
#

I mean it wont hurt it

broken barn
#

i can take some off

rain carbon
#

But its just a bit much

rain carbon
rain carbon
cyan ravine
cyan ravine
#

It's enough

rain carbon
#

😭

cyan ravine
#

You will make his brain short from the specifics

jagged ember
#

That's not an X Lmao

cyan ravine
#

LOL

rain carbon
#

Ive had to take a toothpick to it before

cyan ravine
#

It's fine guys

rain carbon
#

To clean

cyan ravine
#

Like seriously

rain carbon
#

Its just painful

#

Wont hurt it

jagged ember
#

Meant more like this but

#

It'll be fine

cyan ravine
cyan ravine
#

He done fine

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

Blob works

jagged ember
#

Yeah

rain carbon
#

It works

broken barn
#

removed some

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

Should be just fine

cyan ravine
#

Watch vid for cooler

#

Read manual as well

jagged ember
#

Hope it's not stock cooler

cyan ravine

They're all specific

We can't guide the cooler

AMD's stupid spring loaded screws suck ass

cyan ravine
rain carbon
broken barn
jagged ember
#

Yes and yes

rain carbon

It doesnt dry out that fast

#

But it will yes

jagged ember
#

But moreso so you don't make a mess

cyan ravine

Do cooler

broken barn
#

i’m gonna look up a vid for the cooler rn, i have a beefy ahh cooler

No parachute

rain carbon
cyan ravine
broken barn
#

Sigh… gpu or cpu cooler guys? what do you think it is

#

LOL

rain carbon
#

Thermalright is for peasants who care about good performance without wasting money

broken barn
#

big ahh cpu cooler

cyan ravine

Look balou

#

He got the noctua fans

#

Nawk tuah

broken barn

Its already dead anyway why does Intel care

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

The person who said it has also dropped off the face of the planet

#

(As she should have her fame was not deserved)

broken barn
#

i can’t find a vid for the

Thermalright Core Vision ARGB 72.37 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler

#

sigh

broken barn
#

intel is sensitive ig

rain carbon
jagged ember
#

Shush

#

Autocorrect did not correct

cyan ravine
rain carbon
#

I turned off autocorrect on my phone

broken barn
cyan ravine
#

Look for any of their watercoolers

rain carbon
#

Im faster at correcting myself than my phone is

cyan ravine
#

The thermalright manuals are actually very well done too

#

You can trust them

rain carbon
#

Thermalright is love, thermalright is life

cyan ravine
#

They even colour code the parts

broken barn
jagged ember
#

Why do you think they're not called Thermalwrong bro

broken barn
#

why does cpu thermal paste smell like literally nothing

jagged ember
#

Its not Steamdeck fumes

#

I'll say that

rain carbon
#

I am remaking the shrek is love copypasta now as we speak

jagged ember
#

Oh god

cyan ravine
#

(It's optional)

broken barn
#

off the bat… wtf

cyan ravine
#

See, very detailed

#

Your type of jam

#

Look for am4/am5

#

Same for both

broken barn
#

i mean i got this

jagged ember
#

Yeah the instructions you sent was for intel tho

cyan ravine
#

Yes read it

jagged ember
#

Go to the AMD ones

cyan ravine
#

See how it's blue

#

Blue is for intel

#

You want the red stuff

#

It'll say am4 or am5

broken barn
#

oh there we go

cyan ravine
#

Yeah now read the right section and use the right parts you should have little trouble

#

Be sure everything is screwed on the right way around, some pieces can go on upside down

#

I made that mistake

#

Fixed in 5 seconds tho

jagged ember
#

And secure in a cross pattern

cyan ravine
#

Yep

#

Watch the vid lol

jagged ember

Vid shows how

rain carbon
#

I was only nine years old. I loved Thermalright so much, I had all the fans and heatsinks. I'd pray to Thermalright every night before I go to bed, thanking for the life I've been given. "Thermalright is love", I would say, "Thermalright is life". My dad hears me and tells me I'm Thermalwrong. I knew he was just jealous for my devotion of Thermalright. I called him a Nawk Tuah fan. He slaps me and sends me to go to sleep. I'm crying now and my face hurts. I lay in bed and it's really cold. A warmth is moving towards me. I feel something touch me. It's Thermalright. I'm so happy. He whispers in my ear, "This is my mobo". He grabs me with his powerful Thermalright hands, and puts me on my desk chair. I open my PC for Thermalright. He enters my PC. It hurts so much, but I do it for Thermalright. I can hear the cooler mount cracking as my eyes start to water. I help screw it in. I want to please Thermalright. He roars a mighty roar, as he fills my PC with his cooling performance at a great price. My dad walks in. Thermalright looks him straight in the eye, and says, "He was Thermalright all along". Thermalright leaves through my window. Thermalright is love. Thermalright is life.

cyan ravine
#

Ok chatgpt

rain carbon
cyan ravine
#

Lol

#

I ain't got time for wall of text I need to go soon

rain carbon
#

Thats Thermalwrong of you

cyan ravine
#

Ok gotta go again

#

Byeee

broken barn
#

oh no

cyan ravine
jagged ember
#

Don't overtorque it

broken barn
#

i feel like the first screw is easy and the second one is way harder to screw is this normal

jagged ember
#

As in don't go ham lol

jagged ember
#

First screw you just want maybe 1 turn but yeah

#

You need the second one to catch

cyan ravine
#

It'll be tough cos it's putting pressure on by the second one

#

They'll all feel tough after that

#

Don't screw the first one all the way in

#

It won't work

#

Need to do a little bit on each one at a time

#

Ok byeee

rain carbon
#

Typically you wanna go from one corner to the opposite

#

So if you do the top left first, your next should be the bottom right

#

It creates a better alleviation of pressure

#

And yeah dont fully screw in anything until all screws are in

#

After that just make adjustments in a circle until everything feels screwed just all the way in, never fight a screw to go deeper but you want to make sure its tight enough that it wont sag

broken barn
#

how the hell did i scratch it already

#

oh my god

rain carbon
#

You took the plastic off right

#

I cant tell lol

#

Also scratching the heatsink wont touch performance remotely

weary galleon
#

Those scuffs aren't where the cpu ihs will be in contact anyways

broken barn
#

i don’t got time today

broken barn
#

this is fine right

#

would a q tip with alcohol work for cleaning it or do i really not have to

weary galleon
#

Isopropyl alcohol, yeah

shrewd gale
#

Any suggestion for extended storage?

tender apex
#

@lone flame @rustic wolf Yall are the goats

#

I ordered my 6700 xt

#

yesterday just wanted to tell yall the goats

dusky hearth
#

Of data? Or of the PC?

shrewd gale
#

Wait

#

My bad for the ping

#

Exemple

#
analog hearth
#

Mentioning the paper towel part in case you're struggling on the IPA part lol

#

If you're using any lower percentage of IPA, definitely dry wherever you see residual IPA (even if it's on the CPU)

plucky timber
#
analog hearth
#

Yeah

#

Better yet, ask me something but don't make it something simple like "how do I" or "how to..?" Just go to Google lol

balmy hornet
analog hearth
#

What's your current monitor?

balmy hornet
#

For reference I'd be upgrading to a 9800x3D or a PG27UCDM

balmy hornet
analog hearth
#

I would say upgrade the monitor but don't pay the ROG tax. There are other options that have similar specs for cheaper

#

"Then which monitor should I go with?" Idk but I'd imagine @mossy venture would know

#

Also, getting that 9800X3D would be a whole platform upgrade. I think those 9800X3D CPUs are still overpriced atm. It's probably best to wait for the prices to come down, not to mention that it would come with the expense of a platform swap (including DDR5 memory)

#

AMD used to be the budget option but that's not quite the case anymore lol

balmy hornet
#

Only reason that's an important feature for me is I have ADHD and I don't trust myself to reliably turn off the monitor when not using it.

lone flame
#

6700 XT is still a solid card hope stuff goes well with it

balmy hornet
broken barn
analog hearth
#

Yeah but I definitely recommend going to the store to get 99% if you can

weary galleon
#

70% is fibe

broken barn
analog hearth
#

yeah walgreens should have some

weary galleon
#

Just have to let it dry slightly longer

vague oracle
#

Just get 99% to be safe

analog hearth
#

You can do 70% but definitely try not to spill any of it and dry it off after you're done cleaning

vague oracle
#

^

broken barn
weary galleon
#

I've used 70% for years. 99 is more foolproof I suppose

broken barn
#

and then pat with paper

broken barn
#

i’m at school rn

analog hearth
#

Yeah but DEFINITELY be careful

broken barn
#

but yeah i got the same alcohol you’re suppose to get a vaccine with

weary galleon
vague oracle
#

only alcohol i got rn is the drinking kind

broken barn
analog hearth
#

Yeah if you're not clumsy then you're fine

broken barn
#

i got the vaccine one

weary galleon
broken barn
#

i took apart a LED Disco Ball once

#

got electrocuted

#

LOL

#

ts was like a tazer

weary galleon
#

It's less abt you getting electrocuted and more about the components

broken barn
weary galleon
#

But iso (even 70%) dries really fast

broken barn
weary galleon
#

Yeah

dusky hearth
#

Submerged

analog hearth
#

Also, OLED burn in isn't as big of a deal as before. Lots of people buy an OLED and don't experience the burn in

#

If you're worried about the burn in, I recommend just getting a mini LED monitor instead. It'll still look way better than the TN you're currently using

#

And then when you're ready for a newer monitor (after that mini-LED monitor), there will probably be more OLEDs with better options and have even further reduced burn-in

broken barn
#

chat what should be the best order of building a pc

#

i have my motherboard cpu installed and ram installed

#

everything else isn’t ready yet

#

i don’t wanna have to do anything annoying so what’s the best order

dusky hearth
#

Motherboard, cpu, PSU, ram, storage, all the fans and I/O, cpu cooler, gpu

analog hearth
#

Are you water cooling or air cooling?

#

Air: put the cooler on the motherboard before inserting the the motherboard into the case
Water: put the cooler on the motherboard after inserting the the motherboard into the case

dusky hearth
#

I normally do it after for both

weary galleon
dusky hearth
#

That EPS is so hard to reach

#

With a huge air cooler in the way

#

(plus the fins are often sharp)

analog hearth
#

I've always done air cooler onto motherboard > motherboard into case

#

Man what kind of air coolers are y'all using

#

swear if one of y'all mfs say "the case"

dusky hearth
#

Any tower cooler

#

Downdraft coolers are fine ig

#

But if you bump your hand against a tower cooler enough
You'll eventually cut yourself

analog hearth
#

I just realized that the Hyper 212 Evo (from the Bulldozer era) is the only tower cooler I have 💀

dusky hearth
#

☠️

balmy hornet
analog hearth
#

So you state that you have ADHD and that you'll probably forget to turn the monitor off (I have ADHD too lol I understand). Do you leave your PC on, therefore keeping the monitor on as well? You can set your power settings so that you can have the monitor turn off after you've been inactive for however long but not put the computer to sleep

#

You don't have to fully power off the monitor to preserve the OLED's burn-in health

balmy hornet
analog hearth
#

ohhh gotcha

#

hmmm

#

Might be a goofy way of doing it, but have you heard of Switch Bot?

#

It's like a small roboto that you can setup to a hub, which will connect to your Wi-Fi so you can access it remotely. Perhaps set one up next to the monitor's power button?

#

Then you can be like "oh I forgot to turn my monitor off" and have the switch bot do it for you

#

Or just get a mini LED panel (still WAY better than the TN you're using)

weary galleon
#

I mean you should just be able to have the screen turn off after X time

#

Not sure if remote access will turn it on again but surely there's a way to keep it off

balmy hornet
severe matrix
#

Yo guys, how bad is it that my power surge protector isn't grounded? I converted it from a 3 prong to 2 prong w/adapter cuz my outlet only supports 2 prongs.
If so, how easy/expensive would it be to upgrade my outlet to a 3prong/do something that would make my surge protector grounded?

weary galleon
#

Pretty sure the extra current 'surge' is sent to the ground wire in a normal surge protector

#

So without that the effectiveness will be diminished

severe matrix
#

So I'm cooked

weary galleon
#

Pretty sure PC power supplies can protect the rest of the components from a surge, but it might fry the PSU. Not completely sure, I've never lived somewhere that surges are a real worry.

severe matrix
#

yeah rn im just making sure my pc is compeltely safe, cuz ive heard that surges can happen through ACs, refrigerators, or any other heavy applicances when they turn on

#

or lightnin strikes

#

or just plain faulty wiring in my place

fleet pagoda
#

Worth it or no

severe matrix
#

What in tarnation

fleet pagoda
#

So thats a no?

severe matrix
#

i personally wouldn't, MSRP for that is $999, but that's a myth so maybe a little more than that would be worth

#

1600 seems alot for me

fleet pagoda
#

I bought it already because it was my second opportunity to get a 50 series card. Probably gonna cancel like i did with the $1,000 asus 5070ti

#

Msrp is a thing of the past

#

I think you’re right

#

1600 is too much

severe matrix
#

lol

jagged ember
#

What the

#

HELL NO

#

RETURN IT

#

That's wildly overpriced

severe matrix
#

if u got bank tho, why not 🥶

jagged ember
#

No

severe matrix
#

probs not doe

#

xd

jagged ember
#

Wait till it burns your house down or doesn't run well or as fast as it should cause its missing rops

#

Or it just doesn't work cause the drivers killed it

#

I can't believe a working gpu that is exactly what you paid for is the standard these days, but

#

That's a gamble I'd not take

fleet pagoda
#

Yeah I canceled it

jagged ember
#

Just don't buy anything this gen if you don't absolutely crucially need it

#

MSRP is off the table, and nvidias GPUs are not even working rn

fleet pagoda
#

I have a 3060ti and i dont play many gpu intensive games. I just wanted an upgrade

jagged ember
#

Woulda gone for a 7900xtx or something before the new GPUs launched

#

That's basically a 5070 already

cyan ravine
fleet pagoda
#

I think i might just buy a new case and aio

cyan ravine
#

They makin bank

#

Lmao

jagged ember
#

Real the seller is having a field day bro

So the 8gb vram will be limiting, especially for 1440p, but 1080p is at a rough point atm. 1440p is a pretty noticeable upgrade in quality for not much more cost

#

3070 was a great 1440p when it came out, but game devs don't give a crap about optimization atp and a lot of games eat vram at high settings

#

Id be more comfortable with a 6700xt/2080 ti or higher like I mentioned

mossy venture
#

10gb+ ideally

#

6700xt is 12 2080 ti is 11

gaunt dawn

mossy venture

It would be with more vram. Game optimization sucks in a lot of popular titles, to the point 12gb is limiting in a good amount at high/ultra settings

gaunt dawn

Ic, 3060 ti has 16gb tho

Yea

mossy venture

2080 ti, 6700xt, 6800, 3080, 7700xt and anything higher are all solid 1440p cards, since they're either 3070 performance or higher with more vram

#

7600xt is a good 15-20% worse than a 3070

So while it has more vram, it doesn't perform well enough to matter

#

Otherwise newegg refurbished and a seller is have saved on ebay (named wazno) have good options

mossy venture
#

Mining is the same as any other task, except in a gaming rig a card heats up then cools down then heats up then cools down etc

#

Heat cycles like that actually hurt a card a bit more than constantly running it funny enough

#

Most miners also take great care of their cards, power limiting and underclocking the core while ocing the vram

gaunt dawn
#

Thats good to know

mossy venture
#

And make sure they're not overheating, since that lowers mining efficiency
