not yet
usually it does not matter
what does matter is that the usb drive will have to be formatted to FAT
its displaying the windows logo so looks like it found the boot drive
gg
As long as it's FAT32 formatted it should work, but sometimes it can be picky about the drive and there's no rhyme or reason for it
now its "getting devices ready"
so plugging in the old drives isnt an issue at all then? like I could just take my old drives plug them into a dif computer and be fine?
Generally speaking yes, but in some cases there's bugs moving from one socket to another, especially going between brands
interesting
I was worried id lose data / have to reinstall all my apps and stuff again
technically still a possibility but hopefully not
If you were moving to AM5 I would have recommended that you install fresh since there's a well documented bug that kills your CPU performance
me and windows does not get along
we up
now a bunch of things are popping up saying they dont know where the application is or stuff which makes sense bc my other 2 drives arent connected
Windows 10?
ye
Yeah those errors will be for missing drives
Install this so it knows how to use the new hardware right https://drivers.amd.com/drivers/amd_chipset_software_6.07.22.037.exe
they might be autoassigned the wrong letters
what is that even
wdym
windows will auto assign the drive letters
The driver for the chipset, it's part of how the OS communicates with the motherboard
oh I see
The chipset driver is also responsible for power management in some cases
if that happens its fine i can tell which drive is which
should I install that now
or put in my other drives first
Either way
So ill prob keep an eye out for newer gpu
well one thing's for sure
any upgrade you get will be massive
do you have a budget in mind?
you shouldve seen my old cpu, it was the fx 8320
na dont diss the fx 8320 and 970 combo
I got so much out of this pc its crazy
massive upgrade
You know whats funny
FX is uhh
it wasn't good value at the time
even worse now
i5-2500K beats every single FX cpu in performance
im assuming you guys know who Linus tech tips is
well one of his rog rig reboots winners gave away his pc in a minecraft competition
thats the pc that I had, won it from him, if it didnt break I legit wouldnt have even upgraded
I can not and will not resist a good bulldozer slander
wait legit?
what games do you play?
oh
my fps is horrendus in it
you DEFINITELY want a better cpu
but it gets the job done
that game is VERY unoptimised
that 5600x would be a huge upgrade
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/4RrRsY/xfx-radeon-rx-6750-xt-12-gb-speedster-qick-319-core-video-card-rx-675xyjfdp
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/N9xRsY/xfx-speedster-merc-310-black-edition-radeon-rx-7900-xt-20-gb-video-card-rx-79tmercb9
here's 2 bang for the buck gpus if you're interested
probably too expensive atm
since you just did an entire platform upgrade
the 7900XT is pretty interesting
#ROGRigReboot20 I will actually give my computer to a random commenter if I win... I don't think you will want it though

MERC...
at the end of the video you see he says he'll give it away, he ended up holding a minecraft competition and my friend and I decided to play it instead of going on hypixel and we won
I spent 550 total on everything
cad
I saw a couple decent deals on marketplace and such
like 375$ for a 6800
ohh that's not bad
but I havent jumped on them, simply bc I havent had the time, I finished my finals today
so my first step was to get pc running
oh congrats
Stay with me one this one... Intel Arc B580. They're currently the best budget GPU overall if you can get one at MSRP of $250.
they're out?
thanks lol
As of yesterday (2 days?)
I saw that gpu
👀
finally some real mid range competition
How do i know when qflash is done? Qflash button stopped flashing but psu is still on and computer running very quietly
in the mid range it's really good for the price
It beats the Nvidia 4060 and easily beats the AMD 7600, both of which cost more
Between the 4060 and 4060 ti
another question tho
ive heard from other ppl that for certain games certain brands are better
is that true
Yes, for example most CoD games love AMD GPUs
Hey guys has anyone seen my message?
When it stops flashing it's done
Ok then i should restart pc?
You can turn it off and on again
is there a way to know or not really
you will have to find a specific benchmark for a game
Still dram led and not displaying
I'd rely more on general performance
a lot less annoying
and besides
a lot of times radeons are so much cheaper
Give it a few minutes to train the memory
5-10
Ok
you'd be saving a a couple hundred dollars for not that much performance loss
or even a performance gain depending on the game
or...
it's the 7900XT and literally nothing can match it at $700
there's the weaker 4070 TI Super at $799 and the stronger 4080 super at $1000
are RTX 4080 cards out of stock?
yes
damn
They stopped production on them a couple months ago so holiday season demand means the stock is gone
I wonder if the 7900XTs are gonna go out of stock
surely $699 isn't gonna stick around
This is the time of year and point in the cycles where AMD often does deep discounts to clear shelf space for the new gen
you mean even cheaper 7900XTs?
Remember the 6950 XT at $500?
dont think I would even need anything that high, if I found it for a good deal then maybe
also im in canada so everythings more expensive anyway
they are a good deal
$699 is really good
especially when its closest competitor is at $1000
thats usd tho right
yes
I think ill scout marketplaec, craiglist etc and try to find someone selling their gpu when they go to upgrade
5700xts ive found for cheap
Don't go lower than a 2060, new games are starting to require hardware for ray tracing
2080s go for 200 something
5700 XT wouldn't work in those
ill aim above this then
well thanks for both of your help
im gonna put everything in the case
and hopefully it all still works
No but it's the most basic RT so it doesn't need to be
@potent portal still nothing. Computer Running on low and red dram led
ah
so it's not intensive RT
just more basic RT integrated into the regular graphic settings
Try the flash again, sometimes it takes a few tries
what if the ram's just not seated right
Not on the lower settings at least
ah
That could be but the BIOS definitely needed to be updated for the 9800X3D
Ok 2 things. 1. I had to put it on the usb drive from a mac. 2. How do i know if qflash was successful?
@potent portal
When the light started flashing did it start slow, then flash faster, then turn off?
Yes that part is normal, the BIOS programmer doesn't know how to turn off the board
If it's still not working after you restart and give it some time again, it's time to move to troubleshooting the memory
Ok. Ive reseated the ram in every channel and tried solo’ing each stick too
Have you tried that after flashing or was that before
Before
If the flash worked then that would solve the first part of the issue, try one stick in the 4th slot now and make sure it's clicked in on both sides
yes
If that doesn't work then the next thing is to remount the CPU cooler, since bad pressure distribution can cause the memory to drop out
Well unfortunately the next step (and one of the last) is to try a different CPU that's known to be working and compatible
Only have an am4 cpu in another pc. Wont work right?
Correct
Im in a special kind of he11
Hmm, one thing I forgot is to try with just the minimum things connected to the motherboard. CPU, memory, keyboard, and display (to the motherboard), nothing else. The CPU has an iGPU on it.
Cooler can stay, storage comes out
I'd pull the plug on those too
Could do one stick in slot 2 to help rule things out
Mobo or CPU seems likely, unless the RAM is so bad it should have never passed QC
It's also possible that the flash programmer failed in some way and loading up a 7000 series CPU would let you flash normally
So what do u think i should do?
Up to you. Options are:
Take it a shop, microcenter is known to help with this if near one
Borrow a 7000 CPU from a friend
Buy a 7000 CPU and return it later
The nuclear option is also available, RMA both the CPU and mobo
Ugh
I have an additional fan I can put on the floor of my case, should I?
and should I put it to push or pull air, same goes for pwersupply, fan up or down?
more likely than not ill prob put the pc on a piece of wood on my carpet
Might as well
which direction then
Depends on your current fan configuration
It also depends on what case you have and if your GPU is vertical or horizontal mounted
Hey @potent portal thanks a lot for ur help. One last thing- for moving forward should i buy a new motherboard or cpu or both?
If we're playing the odds, the motherboard is far more likely to be the problem. CPUs go through pretty rigorous testing from the factory and they have low RMA rates compared to everything else.
I have seen what we assumed was a bad memory controller once before, I don't think I heard if that one was resolved
Great. Thanks a lot. Just purchased an msi 650 board for pickup tomorrow. Thanks so much for the help!
No problem, I wish it was resolved today but them's the breaks
Fan daisy chain
So where's that fans power then
The other side of the chain, that's left open if you want to add another 3 pin fan to the chain
They end up all daisy chained connected to a wire that goes up to the top of the case
Sounds like the case itself has a fan hub that's powered by other means, usually sata
I cant seem to find it, but might have unplugged it thinking it was part of the mobo
the old mobo
but if its going to a hub at the top, then ik I ddint unplug anything up there
gpu is horizontol
case is nzxt phantom 410
currently have 2 fans pulling air in at the front, and another on the side pulling air in
then 2 fans at the top blowing out and 1 at the back
itd make most sense for the bottom to be pull bu I feel like itll just bring dust in
my condolences
lol is the case that bad too
It's from 2011 so it won't have the modern creature comforts like improved cable management and less restrictive airflow
Yeah those 5.25" bays can limit airflow
I wonder if it's still got better airflow than the H510
It was decently rated 13 years ago
It couldn't possibly be worse since there's actually openings to suck air in
Back to the original question, I'd leave the bottom fan off unless you're having GPU temp issues, and if you are then have it intake.
The PSU should always get fresh air from outside when possible, which would be fan down in this case.
It wouldn't be crazy to put a 1080 ti on a 550w honestly
Then we had 3080 tripping good 750s lol
My 3080 ti tripped my RM850x multiple times before driver updates tamed the spikes
Power creep
More like power leap
I honestly hate how pcs are on the edge of tripping breakers now
5090 is rumored to be even higher power too
And would probably melt your case
I don't think a 5090 would even fit that old case
Those drive bays on the front could be removed with some power tools
What's the 8 pins on this hardrive?
The long skinny plug is the power that im gonna daisy chain to my 2 sata ssds, then there's an sata cable but what's the 8pin
Jumpers, not used in modern systems
I see, thanks
I haven't used one since PATA personally
That's when you needed them lol
umm
good job. great photo
mb
there
I dont think my case alignes with the mobo...
the gpu doesnt have anywhere to go
You can take off the top PCIe slot cover on the back of the case
I feel like it looks a bit high still
It's not
it's perfectly fine wym
trust
nvm im just tripping
I thought the hdmi vga etc were centralized across the actual slot of the gpu
think im finally done?
so the fans dont turn on
seems to work otherwise
so someone said there would likely be a sata connection to a fanhub in the case
would that look like a normal sata cable like the ones I have plugged into the drives
and where would that plug into the case and the mobo
what's the motherboard?
b550M pro4
case is phantom 410
m.2 doesnt show up as a new drive on file explorer either
I only see your CPU fan plugged in
the only other cables I could even see were:
fan cables daisy cabled into eachother that led somewhere to the top of the case
then some weird looking big cable that had like 3 prongs
couldve been something I unplugged from earlier from my old mobo
Open disk management and it'll prompt for a partition table type, keep it on the default GPT. Then find the "unallocated" space on the new drive, right click, new simple volume, use the defaults to use the whole drive. You can add a label if you like.
got my fans to work
didnt connect the molex 4 big round pin things bc didnt know what they were
so now I will:
Do the disk mangament to get my m.2 registered
Do that .exe falcie sent earlier for the cpu
is there anything else I need to do, any drivers or anything
so far everything looks as is but my second monitor looks more contrasty, idk if thats just bc I havent used it for so long or what
If you haven't I'd download either the Nvidia app or AMD Adrenalin app for gpu drivers
Just an older version, new Nvidia app combines GFEX and the Nvidia control panel
The link falcie sent didnt work cuz it says it has to come from amd but I think I downloaded the right one from their website
is this the right thing
I see, I think im gonna see if I can find a new gpu soon, but if I dont then ill prob end up downloading that
also this is downloading the driver, but does it matter where I download it performance wise or anything
I just downlaoded it where it initally said
is a 60-70°C cpu normal or na
I have 1 google tab open and discord
Maybe a tad high but not bad for the cpu or anything
Yeah. Could also be there's some stuff going on in the background, windows updates/indexing/etc
No that's for overclocking, what you want is the B550 chipset driver
Just the top one
The other ones are a special storage driver that you'll probably never have a need for because there's better solutions available
Leave them all checked, it'll install only what it needs
Cool
I dont want some random bloatware lol
so far I opened the game I play and it opened significantly faster
its not even on the m.2
Restarted my pc, I think its good now?
Well Id like to thank you all for your help, lots of ppl helped from literally A-Z, from trying to fix my old components to then helping me pick out upgrades to then helping me when I'm building it
Like Falcie, Stevie, motor, Bacca, 343, an australian guy, boeing, bunch of others, so thank you all for your help
60-70c is perfect normal for a Ryzen
They idle pretty high
As long as it doesn't throttle at full load it's fine
I see
I'll prob move my OS to the m.2, just bc I want to free up space on my original boot drive
then I think Im officially done with the upgrade
One issue I am having rn is that sound is coming out of my monitor no matter what I do
I have it set to my headphones
actually thats just my game for some reason
prob a steam thing
I'd probably just fresh install windows on the new os drive
Will work better considering how buggy windows is
Windows might be acting up right now because of the hardware change
randomly my whole desktop flashes
like the icons
so it might be tbh
If I do a fresh windows install, would my other harddrives/ssds be affected
Can someone provide me the best gaming PC pre-made build for my budget of around 2k dollars? I know nothing about PCs as i been a console player all the time but i got the savings for it now
Unnecessary specifixs dont really matter to me (for exp the pcs color)
Nope, and you can do it the easy way and do a PC reset from settings
Learn about the different reset options in Windows and how to reset your device.
ehh
doesn't that keep the config from the last system tho?
It deletes the old windows folder, which includes all the important stuff like the registry
The config it keeps will just be what's saved in your MS account
oh that would probably work then
14700F, 4080 super, 32GB RAM... that's a really good PC, almost the best you can get without building it yourself
For giggles I threw together a list with comparable parts and it turned out more expensive than that https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Ftr3Zc
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700F, GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower
With that budget, maybe a 7600X minimum, 32GB of RAM, and whatever Radeon GPU
oh hell nah
I'm not wrong
yeah you were just asking in the wrong channel
#general-chat is slander zone for me
what do u think of the gpu and other stuff
we get "I need help" in #general-chat quite often and sometimes that help discussion floods the whole chat throughout the whole day
ohhhh
maybe 7700 XT or 7800 XT? Idk though I haven't checked prices that often
can it be a nividia one?
what is better in ur opinion
I personally would do a 4070 Super at minimum but that's already like half of your budget
yea
Maybe a 4070 because I think that and the Super are marginal in performance, if you wanted to save money
I would go with a Ryzen 7600X at the minimum
1TB is enough to start with. For me personally, I have a total of 4TB and I feel like I'm running out of space. But I've had this build for a couple of years
Idk what you have saved up but I would go 2TB if you can
yea but i want my pc for gaming and at the same time designing
nah i can’t it’s going to be out of my budget
I would say just start with 1TB and then upgrade that later. You can budget for a better CPU and maybe a better GPU if you shop around by cheaping out on just a 1TB for now
alr
the cpu can be a ryzen 7 or a 5
I feel like the 7600 is the lowest Ryzen 5 by now lol. We used to have a X400 and idek if they still make those (within Ryzen 5)
and the case it’s self
AIO will be more of a @gleaming kernel question. Probably same for case
You can generally stick with any Montech case imo. And then get whatever AIO fits in that. Definitely lookup the reviews of the AIO though
Not that Felix
alr ty
I thought it said "Fluelix" or whatever his name is 💀
@cyan ravine
if i got anything i am going to message u on dm
double ping 💀

Sorry Felix 💀
☠️
just accept the friend rq
you dont have to activate windows, you could use it without activation
yea but I wanna change my wallpapers 😂
Hello everyone. I'm building a new Gaming Gen 5 PC. Hoping to receive some feedbacks on compatibility or improvements. https://newegg.io/60243eb
Note: GPU will be RTX 5000's / PSU is the 2024 Version / OS Storage will be Sabrent Rocket 5 1TB.
Also I'm aware of limitation of having Dual channel CPU for my 4 sticks of RAM. I'm hoping to at least run it at 6000Mhz with CL30.
Gl with that one chief
Thank U, hoping with all the Premium Hardware it would help. I've seen YouTube Videos achieve it so I'm optimistic with the Dominator Titanium's.
Current is 3090... tehee
I don't how you pick Corsair and don't even stop to think "man this is overpriced even without the GPU"
Investing in PCIe 5 rn is crazy work 😭
actually, forget the SSD. What's the purpose of spending so much on 32GB of memory?
This has to be irony wtf
Reason is... Crypto blew up and I had $$$$ to splurge with
So I looked at the sexiest and strongest components I can buy
Gotcha. So you didn’t make the mistake I made when I was 12 I guess (that is, you invested into crypto while I was too poor to even get started)
By all means I guess go all out lol
I still personally wouldn't pick Corsair. If I had your money, it still wouldn't even be due to financial reasons. They don't make very good memory
I just invested this month with $4K, turned into $21K so i was very suprised
Nuts
Correction, within a month. So last Month
Anywyas. I chose Corsair because of Icue Link
Gotcha. So just matching it all together in one software?
What the hell is that ram price bruh

I understand you want to match everything but surely there has to be something better
Nvm guess it dont matter

Blud gonna have the baller setup

Icue is literally the worst
Like, THE WORST
Good luck with that
And 4x16 is worse than 2x32
Also overspending to the point you're getting worse quality in some areas
the entire list is just nuts
spend more money on a motherboard than the cpu itself
then a 580$ storage drive
He can waste money if he wants, not our job to stop it lol
I'm open to some suggestions and Yes I can agree Icue is horrible, but I'm an Asus Fanboy so Corsair was my only real option so I don't go Rainbow Puke
If I'm unable to hit 6000 Mhz with all 4 then I'll return the other set and stick with the better set.
My Build is Aimed at Aesthetics with the highest performance I can achieve with Asus Core Components.
Just PRAY you will never, ever have to RMA anything in that PC
Oh God.. i try not to think about it, but since I'm, sticking to 2 Manufacturers.. Won't be as bad as multiple ones.
Oh it will be
So, so much worse
You picked aSUS
They WILL shaft you every opportunity they can get
I've had no problems with their Board and GPU so Asus for life till then
I didn't have any problems with one of their laptops for 8 years straight
So I bought a PC with their Mobo and it has been absolutely awful
Product >>>> brand loyalty
I'm sorry to hear that
some semi-recent controversy surround Asus and their RMAs for reference
https://youtu.be/7pMrssIrKcY

Yeah it's a whole thing
Oh Great it was this year.... I'm still somewhat Optimistic, cause their Mobo's have good history
Of burning chips?
They placed a mosfet backwards iirc a generation ago and burned quite a few boards
Because their BIOS was so awful they literally killed several X3D chips by carelessness
Their history is littered with components killed by incompetence
Asus Z690 hero, a backwards capacitor burnt mosfets
https://www.tomshardware.com/news/asus-z690-hero-failure-figured-out
Not that it's applicable to current generation products, but I would like to point out that their reputation is not crystal clear
Z690 Hero MOSFET fail, killing X3D chips by bad BIOS, RMA scams, overpricing so bad we just call it the aSUS tax where I live
Thats not how ram works
Both kits could individually hit 7200mhz, yet still not be stable at 6000mhz when running all four
@mossy venture Let me rephrase then. My Goals is 6000mhz (Stable) with both Pairs.
Other than Asus brand, Icue being Horrible and my somewhat optimism of a stable DDR5 4x16GB @6000mhz. Are there other problems I should know?
If you're going to get that case, you'll need to get some more fans since it doesn't come with any stock. If you top mount the 360 rad, you'll probably want 3x120 for the side intake.
Yes Sir, I planned on Grabbing 6x120 and 1x140
And when it comes to 5000 GPUs, be careful with the interface, we're still a bit from from saturating pcie 4.0 x16, but if Nvidia decides to use 5.0 x8, the riser that comes with the case is only pcie 4.0
I Shoukd be able to replace the Riser with Gen5 right?
Currently Using 3090 so for now it shouldn't be an Issue and the PSU I'm opting for is Gen 5 ready.
You'll probably be able to find a third party pcie 5.0 riser if needed, but just be aware in case nvidia does something dumb
Thank You!
You're welcome
Thank you everyone for the feedbacks and advice. While I'm stubborn on my brands I still appreciate the information and criticism.
The only brand loyalty I have is with presidents choice (Canadian brand) and Kirkland signature
The only things that have never let me down
Oh yeah
Also the no name brand (also by the same company that made President's choice)
Well, it's not that I must buy those brands, but rather that they're either high quality for the price, or are very cheap but still of decent quality
Updated list with the missing accessories. https://newegg.io/60243eb
Also updating my Aging Router with ROG Rapture WiFi 6E plus a Cat 8 Ethernet Cable.
do you need that much wifi power
I have a question
so my old pc broke, so I replaced the mootherboard, cpu, ram, power supply
yesterday I got it all running and everything, I didnt reinstall windows or anything I just plugged in my old drives
but now I see the activate windows watermark on the right. I didnt have that watermark before, does anyone have a fix or do I just have to buy a key
I was planning on moving my operating system to a different drive than its current one too
Please don't get a gaming router
They only cause issues
Also cat8 is probably a waste of money
If you had logged into your Microsoft account previously, your key could have been tied to your Microsoft account and you can activate windows by just logging in
5e can do 10 gigabit to like 50 meters iirc
maybe thats cat6 I don't quite remember
Actually Yes, which I had a question for. If I can transfer my OS, will I need to boot from a Thumb Drive?
Mind if I ask what types of issues? I'm mostly grabbing it cause my Old router is slowing down and that this has Quad Band that I would like to utilize, Oh and its Asus
It's recommended to clean install with the windows installation media using a USB drive, moving the drive over directly can make windows finicky with drivers
But to get to the Windows Install Media, I would still need to boot from a Thumb Drive right?
Yea, you boot from a thumb drive to use the windows installation media
Thank You Sir
Another Question I have. Jay2Cents recommended updating BIOS before windows. Is that True?
When I pulled up Asus BIOS for updates it recommended updating Windows Intel ME 1st.
See the thing is Im not the original owner of the pc, the pc came with windows, I opened settings and I am logged in so Idk if the key was ever tied to my account
Oh.. My mistake on mixing this up and intruding.
It'll look like this if it was, if it doesn't look like this, you'll need to get a key some other way to activate windows
w10 keys will also still work for w11
I mean, depends on for what reason you're updating bios
get drivers first if you don't have any drivers, update bios first if you need it for compatibility or for specific fixes, in general you don't need to update bios too often
or wait ig thats not the same tab is it
It's under system and then activation
Yea, run the troubleshoot
It'll try to link your license to your account
dunno if something wrong with microsoft servers rn, try again later
it didnt give me an option to do anything after that
ye ill try again later
it had told me that my windows copy wasnt genuine and to get one from the microsoft store, but then underneath that there was a button that said "I changed my hardware recently" so I pressed that and it took me up that ss^
Don't update bios unless you need or want a feature
One example when updating bios may be detrimental is on an am4 board with ryzen 1000 series, latest bios versions lose compatibility with it to add compatibility with 5000 series
This isn't a problem with am5 though, not yet at least
main thing for updating bios is if you have fixes like 0x12B that fixes a lot of instability for Intel 13/14th gens
otherwise usually not needed
OK, thank you guys!
@potent portal update on yesterday’s troubleshooting. Picked up a new mobo and everything is working perfectly now 😃 thanks again for your help!
This is the time i starting asking questions about installing w11 tp a fresh pc
I have a fresh pc and the install keeps messing up
it says the pc restarted mid install and it messed up
how i fix
trying new w11 install usb
i think it just may be an outdated w11 boot image
i fixed it
it was
Tried again later but didnt work, I then saw I had windows updates and did them, after I went through the same process and it let me reactivate my windows
Thanks for your help
Nice
I'd like to move my windows to the m.2, whats the best way of doing that?
Fal'cie recommended this but doesnt that delete the files I have?
Theres the Keep my Files mode but it says itll remove apps and settings for stuff
If you want to swap it and keep everything, iirc macrium reflect has an option for that
Is that an app
I just want it to be on the m.2 instead of the current sata ssd its on
currnetly the m.2 has 1 thing on it but if that thing on it gets deleted then I dont really mind its fine
but the apps and data and stuff I have on my other drives I need to keep intact
Yea it's a separate app, macrium reflect has a lot of options for copying and managing partitions, one of which works for transferring the OS iirc
It's the only actually free tool I found that would let you do a full OS clone without buying it
I see, thanks for both of your help anyways
Falicie you said the difference in the speed between the sata ssd and the m.2 wont be too much anyways?
I remember it used to be a lot faster but now its a lot slower but I think thats bc of it being super full
Would having the OS on a faster drive affect other things
Not really, unless that drive is really having trouble because it's filling up
like games / stuff that the pc does
I might just try clearing stuff on it
In the game I play the load times between me vs some of my friends is drastically different
Now that I think about it I bet some of the reason mine was so much slower was bc of my old cpu
I still might move it to the m.2 cuz in the game you often have to load different maps
but the os I might keep on the sata ssd, assuming that it gets faster once I clear it a bit
My guess is the OS is slow because of bloatware
how can I check for that
also I'm looking at my drive rn, tbh I have no idea how its even filled, I usually dont install anything on it, if I do then its something relatively small
Run disk cleanup as an administrator and it will help with a fair bit of that
what does that cleanup
Only what you tell it to, mostly temporary files, windows update files, things like that
It'll also tell you how much space each thing will save you
Alright thank you, I'll run that
https://a.co/d/hgHlkmQ
Thoughts on this as a second monitor to replace my old one?
Old one is around the same size but 75hz and I can't use a monitor stand with it.
also on a budget
bud get ?s
You're better off building
@dusky hearth do you happen to know what drivers I need to install from Fiios website?
wait nvm found them
@eager leaf #build-pics message I call that having priorities.
so in case* i need help, i can post pictures on here and yall can just circle in a red pen and post it back right? lmao
Yeah if you want to
If you're building for the first time I reccomend pulling up a yt video and following along
Is it possible to build something for around $450?
At a serious stretch but yes
Competent
Used 3600/5500
B450m-a II
Stock cooler
Used 32gb
Cheap af 1TB, SP A60?
$120 (Specifically) 5700/XT
Cheap af case like a SAMA ARGB-Q5, or better yet, a free one
Apevia Prestige 600W or equivalent cheap but ok psu
That tends to get around the 450, 500 mark
Thank you
bruh
This costs more but imo worth taking a look at
https://www.ebay.com/itm/156404825193?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=92chrSivS8C&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=r8em-zv_qyc&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
$650-9% at checkout
Or for a custom build, id probably buy cpu on aliexpress
3600 should be around $45, 2600 is like $30 if you want to build a cheap pc and upgrade cpu shortly
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 3600, GameMax M60 MicroATX Mid Tower
B450 prime on aliexpress, or id buy a used one
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005007920631393.html
Spending the extra for a 5600 wouldnt be a bad idea
There's also cheap coolers on aliexpress
Stock cooler>
?
What is the next best option for gaming because nobody has a Ryzen 7 9800 X3D?
7800X3D
the 9800X3D is quite literally the only Ryzen 9000 worth buying
all the other cpus are extremely mediocre compared to Ryzen 7000 which is much cheaper
probably good to just wait until next restock late jan iirc
I wonder if the price point will be the same in January or if it’s worth it to grab the 7800 instead
even the 7800x3d is above MSRP right now, so not such a good time to buy
the 9800X3D will drop in price sooner or later
in like a year once it has steady stock
Honestly I don't know if that'll even be the case.
The 7800X3D held a price that was just below the 14900K until the demand went crazy and spiked the price. There's absolutely no competition to incentivize a price drop this go around so AMD could keep it at MSRP until next gen.
The nvidia of cpus has been created 😔
goober doesn't know basic economics
demand drives up price when there isnt enough supply everyone knows that...
Yeah a lot of people don't know that and then complain about high prices
Wow it's almost like single core performance was the most important thing and nothing knew how to use more than 2 cores
okay chat so basically
i found a pc on ebay for like 34 dollars free shipping, its a hp prodesk 600 g4, i was looking for this one specifically for a budget build i saw on tiktok that was like 150 total, anyway the computer i saw in particular is bare bones (no ram, cpu, or ssd), if i find the right components it'll bring the total cost of the build to around $100-120, should i do this or look for one with more parts?
Wow that really would be worth that much
That's self-hosting material. I wouldn't game on that tbh
Did we really all just move over one channel to do the same thing with no one else around
☠️
yeah ig
and what ram do you guys think i should put in it if i do end up buying it
I kind of agree with motor's take of it just at a glance
You get some basic bits but you'll be very limited in what you can actually use
It's also 8th gen? Which is tbh, old af by now
The quality of that motherboard yeah, I wouldn't expect more than a 65W cpu which effectively makes it useless for a decent gaming pc if you have any consideration for that
honestly im not gonna be doing that much gaming on it anyway, mostly light games like the basic minecraft roblox fortnite yk those types of games not like cyberpunk lol
Even still
Throw shaders in, dx12, the light games can get quite difficult
It's kind of really low return imo
ic
Cos the 8th gen cpu will be worth comically too much compared to newer stuff
Which offsets the other cheap parts
There's also the limited power design
Small size factor
It just kinda adds up to be a bit counterintuitive to a genuinely good pc because you start at a lower base
makes sense
You can build a genuinely good entry level pc for $490 rn
Mmm I wouldn't recommend anything for less
170 is way too deep
Best bet is a dell optiplex with some old 11th+ gen
Then you get a cheap low power gpu
Hot rod it with maybe a new psu
That's probably the lowest you could possibly go
And even then it's concerning because those optiplex's genuinely ship with terrible ram
So even at like, the lowest end
$120 for a used 5700XT
Free optiplex
Apevia prestige 600W $51.99
And a used 32gb kit of DDR4 for ~$35
That's about as low as physically possible for a solid build
yeah ill be adding more ram no matter what i end up buying really
yeah ik, its only gonna be for a few years until i can actually get a job
Lower than that just sounds like it'll barely game in the near future
The alternative is a used xbox series S
Genuinely good
That's all I could suggest cos again, anything less would barely last long enough to be worth the years imo
All costs money end of the day
ive got a one s as my main game machine right now
been going strong for 8 years
One S still competent, you could flip that and get a series S and be set for a while longer (guaranteed support)
It's technically a sidegrade but newer hardware and longer assurance it works if you don't have any game discs
That's probably your cheapest approach imo
And tbh, the series S does a lot for a console
yeah
ill try getting an optiplex for a decent price on ebay, then ill see what i can do later
Ryzen 3700x+gtx 1060 6gb gaming pc
Except microsoft xbox os
It's quite decent all things considered
im still banned on xbox until january lmao
Yikes lol
was supposed to get unbanned in november then when it switched to a console ban it extended to january cause i used my other account
Well anw, I can't think of any better way to approach this without sacrificing the pc to the point it's not worth so see how you go
Maybe geforce now if you have good internet
k thanks man, ill see where these bids go hopefully i can win one 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
at&t not possible
May need to tune your net to get it to run better
Doesn't need to be fast
100mbps is reasonable
If that works, it's technically free
So there's that
Tuning important though as you want to minimise any bloat on the streaming load
It's a bit of a can of worms, I don't have the time to explain atm
But it should be very accessible unless you live on like, worse than old dsl lmao
is it worth it to buy something without an os? cause unless i want to 🏴☠️ it it'd be like an extra $30
A lot of old optiplex's have the windows key on the sticker
There's a lot of better ways to get a windows key so I wouldn't worry about it
okay
does anyone know why amd adrenaline doesnt open when I double click it?
it broke
wym?
windows probably updated the driver and the driver version and adrenaline version dont match which breaks it for whatever reason
reinstalling fixes it
from the website?
alright I will try that thanks
oh yea lol
I uninstalled the drivers on accident
😭😭
That's easy to fix by just installing them again
which one do I click on?
Second one
Didn't we go over this already
.
$20 for a new cooler that includes paste
Or is this the new cooler
Yea but I think I got blue screened
From overheating
I’ll buy it later on, but I want to see if I can fix it by increase fans
Not if the problem is dry paste on a stock cooler, there's only so much you can do
Yea you’re probably right
I’m in bios and the fan was set to silent mode
You think standard or performance?
Okay I’ll see standard first
With silent mode I literally didn’t hear my pc
It was wild
Bruh I ran silent for a little bit realizing it
I used to use a motherboard for a server. I wasn't going anything demanding with it so I set it to silent. I later then reused that mother for Bazzite OS and the CPU was not having it 💀
Is it just me or does anyone else find that these connectors are super easy to break and damage the fragile plastic inside? I don't even use them on my motherboard because of that.
What is that? USB C?
USB 3.2 3.1 Type E 20 Pin Female Header Connector
Quite the opposite
USB Type E WHAT 😭
I mean the cables are difficult to pull out, in fact there was an episode on LinusTechTips about how xQc's PC was broken again and the cause was that port.
You could see the plastic was damaged.
TIL that the internal "USB C" connector is actually called "USB E"
Compared to type 3, this is much more solid
It doesn't look solid and the plastic on mine damaged after 2 times.
Also the reason why xqc broke his was because he was forcing it in the wrong way
Mine broke because I couldn't pull the cable out.
I kept wiggling it to get it out but the catches on the side make it difficult.
Why are they so hard to remove? I guess people will say "they're not" There's no release tab or anything, I know you just wiggle them and pull them.
they’re not
I mean I couldn't get mine out.
My port still works but I just tested it pulling it out again and yeah my mistake was pulling it straight directly out the first time not knowing that you have to wiggle them gently to get them out smh manual should explain this
Made some adjustments to the sides of the cable where the latches are (using a dental pick) and now it's a lot easier to get the cable out and it still locks in place, i think there should be a way other than needing to wiggle these cables to get them out, like a release tab.
Hi question so I bought a new ram recommend by this group.
Its is this
Silicon Power Gaming DDR4 32GB Kit (2 x 16GB) Zenith RGB 3600MHz (PC4 28800) C18 Desktop Memory Module Ram with Heatsink Black (SP032GXLZU360BDD) https://a.co/d/gWk1imD
Render in higher resolutions. Witness realistic pictures and smooth transitions. End choppy animation and catastrophic lag. Handle complex tasks with ease. Browse unlimited tabs and multitask like a pro. Do what you love faster with confidence. Sound like a dream? The new XPOWER Gaming DDR4 makes...
I just put into my PC and it won't post in 3600 but in anything lower it will why?
How are you setting it to 3600?
In the BIOS
Well yes but what setting
Ok so it sounds like you're not using the xmp profile, which is what you need for it to work
That correctly sets the voltage and timings
Can you guide on how to do that if I sent you picture of my BIOS?
Yes, it's usually on the easy mode screen for the simplest way
It might also be called AMP, A-XMP, or DOCP depending on brand
AI tweaker, DOCP profile 1
Would it be called something else I am not seeing it?
Not sure if this helps but under the drop down for docp I get this?
Actually found out I was in advance mode here is ez mode now
I do see the profile 1 so what do I do now?
Set profile 1, F10 to save and exit. That's it.
If that still doesn't work you can add some more SoC voltage and that usually helps
Great, that's a big step in the right direction
are there any test i can run to make sure its working properly i ask because before i had some cosair vengance ram, and after installing my pc had alot of issues. hoping i don't have that same issue now
For a quick test you can grab OCCT from ocbase.com
If you want a deeper test I can give more recommendations but they need a little extra setup
what would the occt do?
It has a free version with tests for the CPU, GPU, RAM, power, etc
The free version is limited to a 1 hour test
so should i just let the test run on my pc without using it, or am i able to use it?
It's going to use most of the system memory to test with so I'd leave it alone
ok thank you
hey falcie that memory you suggested to me is really good ram
I was able to get it to run at 6600 MHz
I tried 6800, but no luck, would prolly require some fine tuning
thanks again
have you ran any stress tests?
no, but it's 7200 MHz memory so it should be good
ryzen?
i've played war thunder and left it running 24/7 and no issues
intel 1700
meg ace z690
which intel specifically
if it's a kit rated for 7200MHz it might be the cpu holding it back
that might be what's holding it back
I know ryzen specifically likes to run at 6000MHz
yeah potentially the memory controller in the i3 is not capable
the motherboard itself is rated for 6666MHz+ and it does achieve 6600, so its right on mobo spec
xmp profile
and manually lowered it
yeah
this motherboard has a gazillon overclocking settings its wild
if you're manually tuning
I would highly recommend running a dedicated memory stress test for a couple hours
it's in gear 2, which is like a balance between timings and performance or something
i couldn't get it to post with G1
good at this frequency?
yep
Or the mobo
its prolly a limitation of the board
or both
i could probably loosen the timings a bit and it would work, speaking of which i did lower the tRFC or something i think a single digit lower and it posted lol
not sure if that makes it much faster but it's a step at least
it is rated for 7200 so you have quite a bit of headroom
When I start changing timings, I'll have to do the memory tests
I'd still run benchmarks for 1-2 hours at least
yeah
for more intensive tunings I'd run them for longer
what a time to be alive
we've got ram so fast most cpus/motherboards can't handle them
what i can tell you though is the i3's memory controller severely limits the potential of this ram
I know that for sure
I'm building a second system within a month, already got a second board lol.
MSI MPG Z690 FORCE WIFI DDR5 LGA 1700 Intel Z690
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813144485
i'll swap my i3 into that when i do the 13900k in this one
that's a pretty expensive board
i got it used for 154, original box all accesories :)
yeah off ebay, and it was a girl who sold it, and she said she put some extra stuff in there for me
included a couple of extras, a cpu contact plate, some thermal paste, some cable combs, and some silver pc case screws. I won’t have a use for them, maybe you will. Enjoy!
so that was cool
knowing it was a girl who owned it.. she either took really good care of it or completely screwed it up lol
i'm assuming it's the first one
well that wasn't even part of the listing, she added them after
yeah that's what the chinese do too
i just messaged her like, make sure you ship it in an anti-static bag
especially with those x99 aliexpress bundles
not to be that guy, but like sometimes people just dont know
i've received boards wrapped in plastic wrap, like are you joking me
well this was ram i'm referring to
it was in a envelope but the ram was wrapped up in plastic wrap, and it wasn't the kind with a heat plate or whatever, just bare circuit
eh
I mean like yeah, sure it's unlikely the static would kill it, but it's still not good practice
honsetly for ram it's less of a big deal
for stuff like a motherboard it's a lot more riskier
my swedish buddy cleaned his pc with a duster, the kind that y'know throw static electricity everywhere
i told him, great job.
It still worked surprisingly lol and didn't cause any issues.
Near zero chance for modern stuff to be hurt by ESD, even if it's powered on
The risk with those dusters is spinning a fan too fast, especially if it's a cheap one that doesn't have a clutch that disengages to save the motor
yeah most modern boards are pretty tolerant to static nowadays
i'm wondering how they achieve that
Combinations of capacitors and resistors to contain the discharge mostly
This was a fun vid https://youtu.be/nXkgbmr3dRA?si=hQo1pr3kJ9SfwlTZ

Just how dangerous is static electricity to your PC? Are ESD wrist bands just a "big tech" scam, or are they a necessity to protect your much-loved gaming rig? Linus and Ele...
Yeah, I seen that.
you know what else can kill your pc?
The amount of effort they put into trying to kill boards with static, and still failed.
thermaltake smart rgb
coffee spilled in it
swedish friend did that
Diet cola will annihilate a PC too, even if it's unplugged
there's always @honest knot
i'm pretty sure any cola would
instant death
Diet cola specifically because the chemicals they use to replace the sugar are caustic
well, between that and sticky sugar you won't win either way
I once dropped a phone in the toilet bowl full of pee
nice did you get it back?
it still works surprisingly
i bet you use it on speaker
I had to take it apart and dry it before it got all corroded
so ran the test and it close on me after 26 mins what does that mean?
If it's off you have a chance to save a soda spill, just spray it with isopropyl alcohol and take everything apart
what were we talking about again?
i would of just tossed it in a bowl of alcohol
(without the battery)
well
I mean it can't be any worse than the urine right
Close anything that might be running in the background like Steam and Discord, you probably ran out of memory mid test
That's what I use
also it's way easier just to take the phone apart
it's also easier to not drop it in the first place

My Samsung S21 never gets dropped
except yesterday when it fell out of my jacket pocket
right
i will say no errors were dectected thou in that time
I have straight up dropped my Pixel 6 into a bowl of water (no not the toilet, I was doing dishes) and I didn't even turn it off, just took it out of the case and used my high power duster to blow the water off of it
It still works like it never happened (even though it did twice)
I bought my pixel 6 a couple months ago
only because my old phone was blacklisted from the 4/5G network
that phone could've lasted another 5 years
Most carriers are offering a free upgrade from the pixel 6 right now. It's the oldest one that fits into the promo.
it's not a carrier phone
Doesn't matter
I don't go with carriers
they usually only offer the bad value models
that or they're out of my budget
i think falcie might be saying that the cell tower antennas get upgraded and the support for different bands becomes limited, like i had a xperia xa2, which worked, and I bought an identical model that didn't and the answer was because of that reason, regardless of carrier
no that's not it
it is 100% corporate greed
ALL international phones are banned
has to be a domestic model
I'm in Australia so
i thought it was such a good deal i bought a second lol
I don't think the xperia would even work here
not realizing i shouldn't be using outdated androids anymore
then upgraded to an s21
Looks like the free upgrade deal ended but if I took advantage of it I could have gotten a pixel 9 for my 6, I'd just have to pay the taxes.
I'd probably get a used phone when mine dies ironically enough
used flagships are great value when you put on a custom rom
That's the only way to go if you want samsung imo
Pixels are suuuuper easy to flash too
eh
samsung roms are hot garbage for my use case
too much bloat
hardware is great but the software ruin it
Yeah that's what I'm saying, custom rom is the way to go if you want samsung
pixel roms are actually really close to base android
so it's actually the custom rom experience I usually look for anyways
"Pixel experience" I believe that series of roms is called
