Anyway price it all out, measure up your suitcase to see if it all fits just fine
I wouldn't blame you if you went the used laptop route but yeah, you will be losing the upgradeability aspect is all
Can't exactly whip out an itx box while you're idling away on the plane either lol
Maybe if you flew business class
💀
eGPU does make a lot of sense though if you already have a decent laptop
Spend maybe 200 usd on the egpu box, run it via TB3/TB4, get a nice used gpu like a 6950XT
Spend probably half as much again but you can use it all the same way to similar results
Only catch is the size needed is a fair bit more on top
just wanted to say thanks @mossy venture for buying the last c8, because if u didn't then my setup would be too spacious / look weird, I gone a head and switch to c5 with 10 fans for free
W
Now I'll go return the c8
💀
now listen here did i go wrong with pairing my 9400f with a rx 6700 non xt?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xwCpb2 How does this build look for a mixed use setup? moderate gaming + music production. 2k ish budget
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
For the 7800x3d should I stick with the aio or can I use a noctua air cooler
The 7800X3D runs perfectly fine on the stock Wraith cooler
Any one will do
This would be my suggestion, so you have a beefy cooler in the future if you need it

Kk
back again to ask the same stupid question
anyone got any good laptop reccomendations for vr games
tryna get those black friday deals
( i already have a pc i just wanna play pcvr on the go)
also any decent link cables anyone knows about? mine breaks itself every five minutes 😦
I forget what cable I have, but buy this and your cable will likely not break again
An innovative VR cable management solution that offers increased maneuverability with less cable tug compared to static multi-retractor systems, resulting in a VR experience that feels almost wireless in an 12.0' x 12.0' play area. Eliminates cable tug and reduces potential cable damage from twisting.
^ I own one, it's pretty sweet
Oh I remember now, my cable is from Kiwi Design.
Can't say whether or not it's more durable than others since I use the vrwire
idk if durability or quality is the problem
depends on how rough you are with the cable
like, a ceiling tether system may put more stress onto a single point of a cable quite a bit which may break it faster
or if you keep accidentally stepping on the cable, that could also damage it
or rather stepping on it causing it to tug or whatever
This is the advantage of VRwire vs typical ceiling systems
The cable lies on little pulleys so twisting is spread over a much greater length of cable than traditional systems
Sorry if I sound like a shill, I just have been quite impressed with it. Definitely a tad expensive, I think I got mine during a sale. You could probably DIY it as well
looked at it, seems to be fairly easily DIYable, but it's also sold by a couple so it's a small scale/small business so higher prices are kinda normal
it's kinda expensive but when you compare it to other all-in-one kits that are also around, it's honestly not that much more lmfao
well, that's not saying that the other options are priced the best either
diy would always be the cheaper option
*some things might cost more
Best 800-1000 dollar build i can get atm?
Roughly this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zs4Cb2
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower
Could upgrade to a 7800 XT for a few bucks more, would be worth it imo https://pcpartpicker.com/product/7WWJ7P/xfx-speedster-swft-210-core-radeon-rx-7800-xt-16-gb-video-card-rx-78tswftfp
until you look at a 4080s vs a 4090 😦
There's zero low end value (new), zero top end value (new), all in on the middle and high end
You can go 14600 and 7800 XT for a slightly better balanced setup
without going over
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HQbtgn
is this good ?
im not no pc builder
I'd just do a cheaper ssd and psu thatre just as good
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/3JzNQd
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Antec FLUX ATX Mid Tower
but can get cheaper
Case is personal preference
can anyone help me with all the wiring and pc builds i have everything but i dont know where to plug anything
every youtube tutorial just says to plug this into this, even though "this" looks nothing like my cables
pls
i have connected everything and it ain’t turning on
Check the connection for the front panel io
is that in the top left corner
Did you look at the motherboard manual to see how it's connected
It's usually on the bottom right edge
the manuel has no specifications just says plug the cable into motherboard bruh
Which board
aurus b650
Elite ax?
my board doesn’t have the little LED connectors that the picture says in the bottom right photo
cables i meant
I'll be back in 5 mins, you can DM me an image of your motherboard so I can see if you missed anything since you don't have the role to post images yet
alr
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ZJ9cYd I changed a few things you had on this list that you made me, I wanted a bit more rgb and wanted to kind of personalize it so I didn’t feel like I had someone elses complete build, what do you think? I also only plan on playing Fortnite mostly, Minecraft (or at least try to start playing again) and maybe some other games such as cod or other games I might find
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700K, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB ATX Mid Tower
Oops I meant to @ you not reply 😅
I'd do this aio
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/ZQBzK8/thermalright-aqua-elite-v3-6617-cfm-liquid-cpu-cooler-aqua-elite-360-black-v3
And iirc you were gaming right?
I'd just do the 13600kf
Or were you the person who's editing
I’m gaming
Yeah the 14700k will be 3-5% better than the 13600kf at 1080p low settings
At 1440p high settings they'll be near identical
But can it handle more? Like more thing being open at once or am I wrong? I don’t really know a lot of this stuff
No I was talking about the i7 being able to do more than the i5, sorry should have been clearer 😅
No it will not make a difference
I also have a question, what does the different amount of cores do on a cpu? It says the i7 has 20 but the i5 has 14, why would they be almost identical in speeds?
Multi core performance doesn't matter in games
The 7600 and 7950x perform near identically too
What if I was to try and do 3d printing? I was gonna try to buy one a little after the pc, would I still need just the i5?
Most* games. There's very few that like 8+ cores, but 14 is alr way more than enough
I mean if you're rendering large scale projects I'd imagine you're doing gpu focused work
If you were doing cpu rendering maybe? Idk i doubt 3d printing is anywhere near intensive on a pc of this scale
No itd just be a small printer, just to play with ya know?
Yeah you'll be fine
I tried to find the i5 with the free 1tb ssd but I think it’s gone now
14th gen except the i7s were identical to 13th with a minor overclock, 13600kf at $175 is great value
About 10% worse than the 7800x3d
So everything else on the list and the new aio you showed me is good?
Yes
Okay thank you 🙂
How much better is the 4080 than the 4070 ti super?
Around 15%
Xtx matches it with more vram at $765-820 or so depending on sales
Mostly on the higher end of that
We've seen 4080s in the 800s, but normally $950-1000
I think we're gonna see pretty solid gpu deals this black friday/cyber Monday with new releases coming soon
Hmm it’s tempting, so many ways to go about buying things for a build. I’ve never built a pc before except took one apart in middle school and put it back together 😅
New releases?
Yeah, 50 series announcement jan-feb
So the deals out right now aren’t the lowest that things will be?
no way to know for sure, imo i think xtx/4080 will come lower
I was also curious, isn’t Fortnite also more Nvidia friendly than amd?
im not sure about with 7000 series, 5000 series and older yeah
So should I stick with Nvidia since I’ll be playing Fortnite mostly?
I play Fortnite 1440p on a 7800xt, performance texture with maxed out settings that performance gives me, I easily get 200-360fps depending on what I’m doing
If you were on direct 11 with high settings I’d go with nivida, plus using RT to boost more frames. Otherwise if you’re trying to stick cheaper side but still with a card that can run games competitively at competitive like settings, AMD is preferred imo
Anyways I’m in the market for a 2nd monitor (my main https://a.co/d/7SR4OcK) is there any recommendations atm with all the deals?
If you want a nicer one that $150 Dell g2724d is a decent upgrade from that acer panel
I seen some people getting to 500-800 fps in Fortnite with 4070 ti super in some videos? How is that possible?
low settings with a 7000/9000x3d cpu
But they had intel in some of these videos easily getting over 500 fps?
first half of my answer
i used to get 165+ at 1440p with a 3060 ti at high settings
So you think I could get a constant 360 if everyone else is showing 500+?
360 very likely won't have a visible difference compared to 144-240, but maybe
depends on the settings you use
Okay, yeah I got a laptop doing about 100-200 fps, depends what I’m doing though
got my 9800x3d today
No offense, I don’t feel safe ordering off that site 😅, just looks scammy to me and not safe
It's from amazon?
To clarify woot is owned by Amazon
Computers woot?
Oos now anyways
But it says fulfilled by Amazon on that page, and you connect your Amazon account when you sign in
Oh I didn’t know that
I’m very skeptical to going to sites I’ve never heard or seen before
Yoo you should buy this
https://www.ebay.com/itm/167125863206?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=FD6px4KaRcK&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=r8em-zv_qyc&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
$9999 3060 build
thats worth it
Any idea if this was pre-UE5?
That happens with a lot of games actually
Not all of them like splitting up the CPU load like DX12 does and it can introduce weird issues
Reminds me of the frame drops in cyberpunk when crowd density get high
Hard dips
Especially in the dlc area
Does your game stutter with amd?
never stutters/freezes if what you mean
sure I do see FPS drops but it's not to the point you'll lose the game
it just depends on what part of the map you're on
How is your 1% fps low?
uhhhh let me check
Okay, thank you, I’m just hesitant to even think of trying out amd bc all I’ve seen is people complaining about their game stuttering on performance mode and having a really low 1% low fps
But anyways I gotta go, I’ll check back in the morning so just tag me or reply to this message so I can see it
hold on
i'm about to load into a game rn
my settings btw
Please mind that my frames absolutely tank right before a screenshot, I was getting about a max of 200-280 fps with a 99% of 170-210 from moving and standing still
also with 2 people cranking right above me
Also my system isn't the most optimized, like alot of AMD graphic options I have turned off cause idk what they do, some are turned off or limited because it affects my gameplay (or gives you a really weird blur when moving) and i'm on DDR4 😔
Stuttering on performance mode is going to be people forgetting to turn on xmp typically, or needing to overclock their memory because they have a bad profile
Performance mode makes the GPU almost idle, pure CPU load
I don't think my GPU was stuttering from the looks of it
Your GPU was only at 34% load at the time of screenshot
with 51% cpu util, barely can see it cause of the background
should be fine?
That'll be total util over all threads, I'll bet you have 2 threads pegged 100% and the rest have moderate load
im shuttering and I have xmp on
You might fit the second category then, where xmp is insufficient and you should overclock
I never overclocked before
Start with CPU-Z, memory and SPD tabs. I can tell you roughly what settings will work.
Overclocking the memory won't entirely fix that but it will often help a LOT
Speaking from experience
in end game where people was building I was getting 35 to 50
anyways im downloading cpu-z rn
You don't need to censor the serial numbers, what am I going to do, send a RMA request with it lol

Ok that looks like Hynix C die to me, aka CJR. It's not very good at overclocking but you can do a little with it.
Oh yeah, anything with DDR5 will be a big upgrade
A good memory overclock can take a few days to nail down tight so there isn't much point then
Hey guys i found this mobo and was going to purchase it for a build im gonna sell
Is this good?
I also found another one
Powered by AMD Ryzen AM4 processors, the MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI combines stable functionality and high-quality assembly to solve professional workflows. Extended Heatsink Design and Core boost keep critical components operating reliably. PCIe 4.0 slots and M.2 with Shield Frozr provides the lates...
this one
its gonna be a white build so i was leaning more on the first one
They are same orice
Especially with all the hardware on top of it
Ok thanks
Thanks
oh sale ended on the gigabyte one I was thinking abt, but you could do a b450m prime ii at $55 or so
neither have wifi tho
amazon warehouse might have some cheap decent options too
ah crap
somewhat depends? both are kinda meh for white builds since it's very visibly black/grey lmao
like, if everything in your build except for 1 part is white, it's pretty attention grabbing
Yeah which sucks
yeah I never do white builds for flips
never cost effective
mostly in the gpu department
it's like itx tax
fr lmao
maybe you can check if I need to OC cause i'm currently on XMP II + "Asus's AI overclock"
I need to just check my PC overall tbh, cause I finally updated my bios after not wanting to do it for months
That's Samsung C die, you can't do much with that
pained me when I saw it
still waiting for a singular z690 or z790 ddr5 board to go on sale rn
was looking at and it's been at that price since the start of this month, saw this though https://www.amazon.com/GIGABYTE-Z790-Q-Flash-EZ-Latch-Motherboard/dp/B0BH9DXY38/ref=sr_1_4?
Intel LGA 1700 Socket: Supports 13th and 12th Gen Intel Core Series Processors DDR5 Compatible: 4*SMD DIMMs with XMP 3.0 Memory Module Support Commanding Power Design: Twin 16+1+2 Phases Digital VRM Solution with 70A Power Stage Cutting-Edge Thermal Design: M.2 Thermal Guard III, Fully Covered MO...
Tried linking the used version from resale, but they had 3 on Friday
You could roll the dice on that one and hope the pins are ok and all the parts are there
I might take the risk
It's easy to return anyways plus amazons customer service are willing to do anything for you
Best case scenario it's in perfect shape, worst case you get a refund after being inconvenienced
I got my z690a pro off amazon warehouse and it was flawless
no
its being paired w the RX 6600
lowkey 5500 off aliexpress, otherwise id buy used
or maybe 12100f
Used 3600
Below that you're compromising simply too much to recommend these days
Understandable ill probably stick to the 5500
you could also consider a used gpu instead of the 6600
so you'd have more to spend on cpu
like a 5700/xt, 1080/ti, or any 20 series card with 8gb vram
5700xt for 120 is ALWAYS a good buy
interesting
Strongly agree if you're considering a 6600
6600 is good but 5700XT delivers basically the same experience but better raster
then you could fit a 5600/x into the build, which would last much longer than a 5500
A little bit yeah
there also might be a combo on newegg with the combo savings event worth looking at. Do you have a list of parts youre looking to buy rn?
yeah
ill send
White and black PC build - AMD Ryzen 5 5500, Radeon RX 6600, Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower
I found a better ssd ignore that
its a placeholder
alr this is just moving spending around https://pcpartpicker.com/list/n3BFt3
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 6600, Montech X3 Mesh ATX Mid Tower
and lemme get back to you on the combo
White GPU is really difficult
You get like, less than you can count on one hand how many are available that are genuinely white
That are reasonably priced
It's cheaper to just buy a normal one, buy some plastidip, and carefully apply like 5 half coats to the shroud by taking it apart
It will look a little rough when done but you can put clear coat on top if you want a smoother finish
It'll all peel off when you wanna sell
Oh yeah, remember to use new paste if you do that
Nearly forgot
@serene onyx
yes i have a tube here at home
yeah sadly
You'll be fine lol
Just make sure the die is completely covered, can't do line, pea dot shenanigans here
There's no IHS
So anything not covered is a hot part of the chip unlike a CPU that has a top piece that spreads the heat out
I honestly feel like, working with a GPU, as long as the cables they use aren't garbage, one of the easiest parts of a PC lol
thats true
All it requires is a careful hand
Airbrush
If you got one
Buy one frfr
The spray can on plastidip is not bad if it doesn't get covered
And you don't half press
Small job anyway, it's like a $15 can for white rubber lol
Does anyone know if the DT990 Pro will sound better the arctis nova pros (wired) in terms of music. I own the novas rn and wondering if there’ll be a difference
was looking to hook it up to the scarlett 2i2
I mean you can have x headphones, which are from a sound company, or you can have y headphones, which are from a peripheral company. Which sounds like the better option?
Just get the DT 990 Pro
I need help with my pc
I think my motherboard is just too old and idk where the cables go
I got gigabyte b459m ds3h WiFi
And 750 watt cooler master fully modular psu mwe gold v3
what about the gigabyte eagle ax? its about 140 rn
lmao you right
B450m? That's pretty modern, there shouldn't be a compatibility issue. You only need one 8 pin power for the CPU and the 24 pin cable.
dumb question but just wanted to make sure
That’s it?
👍
I’m not gonna use some of the front usb cause I don’t have an adapter for that
Where does the front panel cable go
will there be a difference? yes
would it sound better? it's a bit of a matter of preference but the dt990 pro is more audiophile than gamer orientated lmao
also it has a completely different driver type
To the motherboard from the power supply, yes that's all you need. You'll probably also need GPU power and whatever else.
one uses planar magnetic drivers and the other uses uhh
why did i blank at the name
I have case fans but where to connect the pack I bought daisy chain
dynamic drivers
Tbh I just want it to sound crisp
But the pre installed fans where do I connect those of my motherboard has one system fan header
i could care less about directional audio and all that
scarlett's dac and amp isnt the highest quality, though may be better quality than the built in one on your pc at least
@potent portal
Which do you recommend?
@mossy venture
Depends on the kind of connector the fans use
depends on your budget, but fiio makes good options no matter what your budget is
sub $100
120
Not all of these are required, you can just do the power switch if you wanted
if you want something american made, schiit and jds are good options, but that would be over 100
I tried to install my new CPU, and the CPU light came on, so I looked some things up. Reset CMOS, same thing. I reinstalled the old CPU, same thing. So I removed the new RAM I got, and the BIOS wrote the new settings and PC booted normally.
@dusky hearth how about one that’s worth the money?
Just make sure the 2 wires are on the 2 pins for the power switch
all the options i've listed are "worth the money" but it depends on how much you want to spend
Will faulty RAM cause CPU light to come on and fail to boot the PC?
plug here
Maybe? I mean if it has a RAM light then it's probably not the RAM in that case
If something went horribly wrong then yes, a memory controller error can report as a CPU error.
Updated BIOS?
yeah I updated my BIOS before I started to install my upgrades
I connected the front panel connector
Try one stick at a time of the new memory after a CMOS clear
If one works and the other doesn't you'll know for sure it's the mem
I was thinking about that, yeah
does every new BIOS update always contain the previous updates?
@potent portal
or should I search for the specific bios update for my new CPU?
It depends on the exact model of board and what the old version is
If you only need the one PCIe power for the GPU then you're good there
MPG X570 GAMING PLUS
Yeah MSI doesn't do stepping updates typically so you can just go straight to the latest
alright
is the sound blaster g6 any good?
Hey all. I recently "upgraded" my rig to a AMD AM5 Ryzen 5 7600, 32gb DDR5 5000mhz.... Im still rocking a GTX 1080. Anyone got any suggestions for a budget friendly GPU upgrade that will last me another 6-10 years? Appreciate the input! 🙂
Do I put any of the pcie cables
If your GPU requires them yes
What about the fans
Depends on the fan connector in question
not that i know of at least, not really an audiophile kinda product
I can daisy chain the thermal right fans but idk about the other preinsralled ones
I have a Lian li lancool 207
And I see there’s 2 fan headers one for the system fan and other for cup fan
Clue
6-10 years is a BIG ask with how rapidly everything is changing. Even a 4090 might not last that long.
Cpu
So you're saying all the new stuff is trash? 🤣
All the 8GB stuff is, which is most of the budget options unless you go AMD
I've used Nvidia forever, I am ok with trying AMD for the first time.
We're seeing plenty of games run out of memory using 8GB at 1080p already
I've maxed out 12GB before at 1440p
I was eyeing a 12gb AMD card, and possibly a 4060 Ti
@potent portal
are gee bee
Was debating a 7600 XT
sorry for pinging you,
but what would you say is the best out of these three?
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16883360553?tpk=1
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16883360521?Item=N82E16883360521
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16883360527?item=N82E16883360527
They each have "Free gifts" but I don't know if they're bs or not...
You can just add them to the daisy chain probably, and the other one is for RGB
Modern fan headers should handle 2A so it takes a lot of fans to overload that
specifically argb
Yea I just found out I can daisy chain the pre installed fans too
There's games currently available that the 7600 XT cannot get above about 40 fps at 1080p, so again it's not going to last that long
hmm
so far i havent run into anything that my GTX 1080 can't handle still.
But the most "intensive" game would be Baldurs Gate 3, or Battlefield 2042...
You haven't played recent releases like stalker 2 and microsoft flight sim then
Besides, a 7600 XT is only about a 10% upgrade over a 1080
Does the 1080 rock that hard still? (it's not the Ti version!)
Isn't stalker 2 just unoptimized as heck
Yep, it's almost as good as the 4060, which is about as good as the 7600 XT.
Correct
That's nuts, for how old it is. So what would be a "good" upgrade from this 1080? In your opinion.
Hard to tell but it does have very high GPU usage
7800 XT
Yay I just need to connect the fans then gou and in I’m all done
I was just eyeing those. And I assume the 4080 is the Nvidia equvilent?
So 4070 😛
4070 ti maybe depending on the game
CoD loves AMD cards for example, it'll do great in that
the newest game i own, is Sins of a Solar Empire II, lol...
4080/Super are identical +1%
I've gone from hardcore gaming to more casual, but i'd like to still play, for example Battlefield 2042, or Arma 3 and not get graphics lag.
In fact
4080 costs more to make cos better PCB most of the time
Despite the 1% speed difference
is XFX still a reputable AMD card? Last time I used then, was when they still made Nvidia cards.
Excellent. I loved them back in the day.
Wow that was a while ago. Generally they're an average brand.
They are actually hilariously strong at cooling despite the appearance
If you do them vertical mount
I think it's because you can then use fans directly underneath for a second side of intake?
Idk I get really good temps in the O11 Evo lmao
I am eyeing (on best buys page, im sorry newegg i have a best buy card lol) the Speedster 7800XT and the Quicksilver 7800 XT
We don't take offense, you can shop where the deals are. We recommend Amazon links all the time lol.
Fair lol
the best buy card has no balance on it, so thats my best bet card wise to keep payments on the DL
ive spent days looking at cards, and talked myself out of the 4060.
sounds like i need to go better to see a performance increase.
Good, all that would get you is ray tracing and DLSS which aren't worth it, especially not in any of the games you mentioned so far
Seems like I shouldn't concider anything less than the 7800/4070.
First
@dusky hearth do you think I should opt in for the dx3 pro+ or go with schiit fulla
@potent portal
or do my ears peak and not perceive any difference
Schiit is funni so schiit (my opinion)
Do I ignore this
Dx3+ is great, I daily
@zenith cargo
na cuz look
That's for the RGB, you can skip it if you want
Where does it connect
Dx3 pro then
I own schiit too ya know
@potent portal
Got a stack of schiit on my desk
pretty sure that’s the rgb software
if you don’t want to control your rgb using software don’t bother connecting
i bent mine on accident 🤑
Does it connect to something
the motherboard
dx3 pro+ would be better but isnt that outside of your budget
yea
well
idc
fiio's k5 pro is currently on sale within your budget
if it’s better than ill buy it
Bottom of the board, left of center. D_LED1
Ok thank u
I own a schiit stack and a fiio k5 pro…
their budget is $120 max (at least originally) so their options was either a k5 pro or like a schiit fulla
Prefer the stack but the k5 ain’t bad at all
are they basically the same
i meant compared to the dx3
hmm not bad
well, if it's within the price range you're willing to pay, sure
it's a good dac
alright
Lol
Hey guys. I currently got a 6700XT GPU on my MSI Tomahawk mag b650 motherboard and I want to switch the GPU to ASUS ROG Strix GeForce RTX™ 4060 OC Edition Gaming Graphics Card (PCIe 4.0, 8GB GDDR6
Anything I may have overlooked?
@zenith cargo @potent portal @mossy venture ive now fully built the pc
ill send pics soon
Do you already own the card? You're kinda downgrading
Nope I don't own the card 4060
Why do you want to switch to the 4060?
I was looking for a better GPU for video editing and gaming but I was too lazy to check around, I could and decipher it myself but lazy rn
Usually Zotac has 4070s refrub on ebay or their website, like the one in #tech-deals
but it's oos, i'd recommend not trying to switch GPUs at the same price point as your current
you can take that money you were willing to spend on a 4060, spend a few extra bucks for a 4070 super or something similar in your case, then sell your 6700xt
Better performance + you don't need to itch for another upgrade in the next few years
True
I have a 7800x3d CPU which I don't plan to change anytime soon
Didn't want a bottleneck eother
What about the 4060 TI super oc?
is this good https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jpjBb2
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 8700F, GeForce RTX 3060 12GB, Lian Li LANCOOL 215 ATX Mid Tower

Still wouldn't help considering you're getting a little boost compared to the 4060
MSI Gaming RTX 4070 Super 12G Gaming X Slim Graphics Card (NVIDIA RTX 4070 Super, 192-Bit, Extreme Clock: 2655 MHz, 12GB GDRR6X 21 Gbps, HDMI/DP, Ada Lovelace Architecture)
I mean what's your budget on the GPU
I mean are you willing to buy brand new or refrubished
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7700 XT, Corsair 3000D AIRFLOW ATX Mid Tower
@split cliff
Brand new, unless you could find me one in good condition. I don't usually enjoy buying CPUs/GPUs/ram used
Can def get better value with sales/deals/open box or refurb gpus
^
Refurbished can also be open box, zotac doesn't really specify
ill let him know, ty for the modifications :)
Could do this for a cheaper option btw

7700xt is like 40-50% better than the 3060
And the 8700f has less cache than 7000/9000 series cpus, causing it to flop in gaming perf
It's an 8700g with the igpu disabled, iirc that's closer to a 5600 in cpu perf than a 7600
i have no idea what that means but i will take ur word for it and telll my friend his build is terrible LMAO
i built a pc before but im still like beginner in terms of what GPU/CPU/mobo is good together etc.
@lyric scarab I'd recommend going with a 4070S or a 7900 GRE (check if the 7900 GRE can do the job first though)
Zotac i'd buy refurbished from anyday tbh, they're like the only good GPU company for refurbished/open/used
plus you'll likely get extra warranty
@dusky hearth I just found this on AliExpress: $165.28 | New K5 Pro ESS ES9038Q2M|768K/32Bit and DSD decoding Deskstop DAC and Amplifier for Home and Computer

This is also it right?

not too sure if it is a legitimate listing, since the one i listed was the official store from the manufacturer
Website? I'm not seeing on what I currently am on where to buy from
Thx
these are sold by an account that has existed for 16 days
idk if i'd trust it
I wouldn't buy it ^
Plus if you were, i'd see if it's on temu
I heard temu has 100x better customer support than aliexpress
Does anyone here play Terraria? I'm getting a problem where specifically Terraria runs at 15fps whereas all my other games run about as expected (200fps in bo6 for example). I know it's a problem with my setup because I've had odd gpu related issues ever since I built this pcm
I'm thinking of returning this 6800 and just getting a different card
noice 👍
how much did u pay for that 7900xt

Ah the good ol ddu fix
Good place to start w any gpu related issues
before or after you load into a game
Cause terraria is the most unoptimized game
I'm usually at 99% util, 700 fps on tmod
Yes
It becomes really bad in both the main menu and in game
But the odd thing is, I've played on a 6650xt and a 3050 and got solid 165fps (monitor cap)
Even with heavy mods
how do I remove standoff screw or I just dont
for?
case
Still persisting after ddu?
To open it yes
?
Haven't DDUed yet
I'll have to do that after I move
Cancelled the wifi already
I could just download it to a usb stick from my phone, but then I'd have to also find out how to install the drivers
W
nvm theres a standoff screw that come with the box

good deal
I bought mine used for $500, and that was when gpu prices were through the roof

100% agree. If AM5 is too expensive, honestly, just save up a hair more and go for a 7600(X) build. Maybe even just get a single 16GB stick first and then wait for your next paycheck to get another of the same 16GB stick so you have a proper 32GB setup

I'm curious to see what people say about those SAMA AIOs
A budget Lian Li sounds nice
Most people seem happy with it, and those that don't seem to not know how the software works
I tried to keep the same aesthetic, on the assumption that the Y70 would be the point of the build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xytHh7

No filter evading, I'll give you a bit to correct that
That means you have a curse word that you replaced the S with $
Afraid so, server rules. It's normally an immediate delete.
We do have people as young as 13 here.
i have a relatively outdated AMD gaming rig that i was hoping to optimize. I really only play Path of Exile, and there's clearly a bottleneck somehwere because my top fps is like 50-60 (dogpoopy, but still good enough to function in POE). When I look at system performance metrics when in game, it appears that my CPU is maxed out moreso than anything else, so I assume that's the likely bottleneck. Never upgraded a CPU, so I'm looking for some guidance here re: which CPUs I can buy, whether or not it will likely make a big difference, etc. DM me on here and I can share my CPU-Z screen grabs for system specs and details. Thanks.
there
better?
Yes, thank you for your cooperation
What CPU do you have currently?
Oh yeah FX 8350, that's quite outdated
5700 XT as the GPU
well i want to explore just upghrading this machine first to see if i can get some dditional life out of it, so....
my biggest questions are....
- is my CPU the bottlneck
- if so, what cpus are options to make an actual impact
regardless of budget
ignore budget for npw
now
- most likely, FX was bad when it was new
- there's nothing you can upgrade to without changing the motherboard and RAM as well
Yes, any upgrade that's worth it will require those 3 to be changed at the same time
is my GPU dogpoopy also?
It would be ok for a bit longer if you're mostly playing at 1080p medium or something
got it
so i guess ill explore swapping into an NVIDIA board, CPU, GPU i guess
for this tower
where is the knee of the curve for NVIDIA GPU and CPU these days (on a graph of $ vs. performance)
meaning, inflection point where addtional cost doesnt give you as much benfit
benefit
You could do an Intel CPU upgrade for about $300 give or take, everything included
Nvidia GPU you'd want another $400 unless you go used
got it
what does 400 give you for GPU these days
do u have example links for both?
like i said, i really only play one game...Path of Exile....
POE 2 is about to be released and this is the SR:
sent to your DM
The 5700 XT still fits the recommended spec so you'd be good on the GPU technically
Sample upgrade https://pcpartpicker.com/list/bZPhyW
Part List - Intel Core i5-13400, GeForce RTX 4060 Ti
cool let me chekc it out
can u create a list for the option of using the AMD GPU with a new MB, mem, and CPU?
It would be pretty much the same as that without the GPU
You could go a little cheaper on the CPU if needed
i cna use an AMD GPU with intel components???
Yes 100%
didbnt know that
i bought my memory recently....i assume that its bricked moving forward because its only usable by my outdated MB?
nice
What is your list?
They're on a FX 8350 and 5700 XT currently
Yeah the memory would be DDR3 so that's unusable on a modern system
I need to get my kid to the dentist so I'll leave you in the capable hands of the others here
sounds liek my mem isnt usable anyways, Seg
biut maybe to save costs up front, I'll plug my relatively older AMD GPU into a new Intel MB
and get new mem and CPU
is it as simple as plugging an AMD GPU into an Intell MB and it works seamlessly?
or are there other steps involved?
It's as simple as that
nice
can u put another parts list together for me with the next higher tier or CPU and MB?
if im just going to temporarily use my AMD GPU for a bit, maybe i can through more cash at my new CPU and MB
throw*
What’s your budget?
well technically no limits....but....
if im just going to use a temporary approach of using my AMD GPU, i may want to invest some aditional money into making sure my CPU and MB are above average (maybe) and will allow me to plug in a decent new GPU when im done with temporarily using my AMD GPU
when i upgade my GPU, i want to make sure by CPU and MB are decent
So if I drop more cash on a hugger intel cpu and a better MB, that might be a decent idea here
Higher end *
So I’m looking for example recommendations on those two components
For gaming, best is 9800x3d, above average is 7800x3d, average is 13600k/14600k
It really depends on how much you want to spend
It's a question of $700 vs $450 vs $200
those are CPU specs?
i was thinking of switchign to intel
are those AMD models?
ok
what would be an example of an above avg intel CPU right now
not the vry best
Intel upgrade (cooler upgrade required, shown) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/MWFpGJ
AMD upgrade https://pcpartpicker.com/list/npnLFs
Part List - Intel Core i5-14600K
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600
The reason the Intel chip needs a cooler here is twofold, they don't include one, and they get really hot so they need bigger cooling.
With the AMD 7600 it includes a cooler that's usually fine
thanks
Dentist was quicker than I thought it would be lol
With the Intel CPU there's no viable upgrade path if you need a better CPU a few years from now
AMD there's plenty of options from there
i see
when u say upgrade, what are u referring to?
what gets upgraded in the future poten tially?
Switching out the CPU for a better one on the same socket
It's AMD's commitment to create more products on the same socket
The AMD socket just has more upgrade options, now and in the future. The Intel socket is dead, meaning no viable options for upgrade at any point.
got ya
There is technically a newer Intel CPU. DO NOT GET IT. It's actually worse for gaming than the 13 and 14 series.
i see
ok
what advs do i get into with a higher end MB?
say if i dumped double the money into a better MB
ok
just trying to underatnad what featrures i gain maybe at that 150 ceiliung
the top of that price range
more ports? bluetiooth? etc
You get more expansion slots for add in cards, sometimes better VRM but that only matters with the highest power (and cost) processors. Some boards have more heatsinks for things like M.2 drives. That's it.
got it
PC is being used for schoolwork and some gaming, I have a 1440p 180hz monitor as my main, either mitx or matx.
turns out it was the RAM causing the issue
I tried each stick of the new RAM, and the mobo didn't want to recognize either one
Neither? Wow
but I have my new CPU and GPU working
I read that Corsair has an issue with their RAM sticks being incompatible for any number of arbitrary reasons
Oh it was corsair, yeah their DDR4 is trash tier on a good day
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/gLfGGJ I changed the ram to g.skill trident 64gb ram, is this good or no @mossy venture (sorry for ping btw, you’re the only that knows what is going on with what I’m planning, also I want the ram rgb if you think this one isn’t good)
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700K, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB ATX Mid Tower
While I may not know the specific situation I can say that Bacca would not recommend that memory since it's Samsung dies
Am I correct on that?
I told you what I'd suggest. Anythnig else is not what id suggest lmao
64gb is also just completely unnecesary for you
like the i7
Generally speaking anything above 48GB is also going to hurt performance
How? I’m actually curious, I thought more ram was better
It's harder for the memory controller to run so it has to either run at lower frequency or higher latency
In this case it's the latter, higher latency
I'm guessing the kit you were previously recommended was 6000 c30
I also had to change gpu because the one I had originally selected went out of stock, is the one I chose now still good or is the gigabyte a bad one?
Yeah I think that’s right, lemme get the previous list
As far as the specific model goes, it's fine
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700K, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, Lian Li LANCOOL 216 RGB ATX Mid Tower
This the one with the old ram
Also model of what? The gpu?
imo well prob see 4080s around that price very soon
About when? Also I got to go back to work now, but the gigabyte gpu is fine?
yes. I imagine will see it drop to the 800s w black friday cyber monday sales
I wouldn't be too hopeful if they haven't started yet, generally cyber Monday deals aren't better than Black Friday deals, and Black Friday deals are already on
weve seen 4080s in the 800s before tho, and open box was just $820 or so iirc
with new gpus right around the corner imo im expecting some price cuts to off load stock as much as they can, but maybe im tripping
I'm not too hopeful for it, retailers don't really drop prices much until the next gen actually comes, it's the used market that gets impacted most
How do I check what cpu cooler I have, short of taking the whole thing apart?
No, I don't
No, this is an old cooler
You got an image of it?
We can try reverse searching (or someone just happens to know what it is)
Is the only way to do it by looking at it manually? It is not that important, I am just putting it into pcpartpicker and it should work anyway
Nevermind, thank you anyway
No biggie
Is this a good build? Is there anything big I am missing? (I have a cooler and case, I just not sure what its name is)
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/dndzYd
this is my GPU
i’m already using 2 displays with this GPU:
- 1440p ultrawide @ 60 Hz
- 2160p (4K) @ 240 Hz (main monitor)
my friend is giving away his 4K monitor to me
does it support 1440p + 4K + another 4K?
Id do a diff ssd, that's really overpriced
Fx900 pro at $104 if the sale is still going is just as good
M482 at $90 will accomplish the same thing, it's technichally worse on paper but won't make a difference in games
You could do the b650m hdv at $100, it's just as good as the pro rs
I wasn't sure on that one, what is the difference?
I think the hdv has one less m.2 slot
But both are good choices
Neither has wifi, so if you're not using ethernet you'd need a wifi adapter
Or just a diff mobo that comes with wifi
didn't I put the one with wifi?
Does everything look good
The ssd thing still stands tho
It's not that that ssd is bad just really overpriced
And you'll need to update firmware with it to make sure it doesn't have the faulty version that commits self die
I wanted it to be more reliable though, I feel like a name brand would be less likely to give out. Knowing my luck with technology, if it can break it will
Msi m482 and hp fx900 pro are both name brand
And model>brand
But its your pc at the end of the day
Just make sure you update firmware if you go for a Samsung ssd
The software the ssd runs on
There's a faulty version samsung had a while ago that had ssds dying very early
There's still some affected ssds mixed in with current stock. If you update firmware it's fine.
If you dont and the ssd dies, samsung won't honor warranty
Because samsung things

ASUS ROG Strix LC II 240 All-in-one AIO Liquid CPU Cooler 240mm Radiator
Can someone please tell me if this is good for my 5800x3d?
No
First do you alr own the cpu
Considering you're playing star citizen I'm taking that as a yes
Where do I put all of these cable to?
im guessing connect the the fans each other and then the rgb cable to one?
its an aio cooler, so one rgb header and one fan header
what's the header on the left?
Might be daisy chain argb
oki I found out that the fans go into a fan hub which was included, I conntected that already now I dont know what about the rgb
Is it true the 13th and 14th gen cpus are having overheating issues? I just kinda found that out
No
They had voltage issues and a manufactures defect that have been fixed
And they have like a 5 or 6 yr warranty i forget, but they extended it on 13th/14th
@dusky hearth do I need anything else for my audio setup?
Nope
Unless you want to add stuff like speakers or such
Upgrades in order: PSU~>motherboard~>cpu~>nvme~>case
its it better to get 32gb kit (2x16gb) 4600mhzc18 ram or 32gb kit 3600mhzc18 ram
Well 4600 definitely won't work on whatever you planned to use it on
Both because it's very hard to run and also if you're asking the question you won't know how to make it run
So the 2nd one
3600
i am tryying to play star citizen
Something Ive always been curious about. Does it matter if you do Ram slot 1,3 vs 2,4 for dual channel?
Star citizen really cares about the ram but you still need to be able to run that ram 1:1 for the best performance
2,4 primarily is the universal standard
huh interesting. Ive never noticed that in build videos until today
It depends on the topology of the motherboard, basically all now are daisy chain afaik, so theoretically you can get fractions of a fraction of a fraction of a nanosecond difference using the closer traces, but if it's t-top, there is no difference
MSI 870E carbon wifi. I will probably just swap them to 2,4 for a tiny more clearance with the AIO wires
I think its all daisy chain past like x470, don't think anyone keeps track now lol
All documentation now just says it anyway
Interesting
I thank you for the answer
they have a dual channel 64gb running at 3600mhz
For star citizen the 3 key takeaways are. Ram, CPU speed (3d v cache amd chips slay intel), and a fast gen 4 nvme
gpu only matters when rendering some cloud and gas cloud tech
server performance is a greater limiting factor at this time anyways
ngl with how star citizen feature creep is going I wouldn't be surprised if the hardware requirements just start changing around every patch
I wouldnt either, as until they nail down server streaming everything is brute force ran through hardware right now
The reason being it's better when using 4 sticks but worse when using 2 or less 🙃
some demands have been brought down with some of the gen12 render pipelines
addition of dlss/fsr also helps
any recomdation of ram sticks that are 64gb and I also want some lights
if in the future you can nab a cheap X3D cpu. For star citizen the gains are rediculous
Ok I would sell that combo and go DDR5
7500F +64GB + good A620M costs only a little more than a 5700X3D with the same spec and delivers the same performance if not better
Anyone had luck getting their hands on a Taichi 870e or 9800X3D
Are these fans setup right
I got my 9800x3d
It’s in this build too
Yes
Amazing. I missed my opportunity. Hoping new inventory pops up after Thanksgiving for the big shopping days.
What's happenin'
you gotta keep your eye out regularly for restocks
Now just got to do cable management and this pc is good to go
Helping about 5 people simultaneously
But I got a 9800X3D AMA
I have email alerts set on 3 different sites
Admins have popped in here a few times to announce restocks about an hour before they happen
Sounds like you're the man
I am a male
I got my 9800x3d at a microcenter that if you got one…
Now we're talking
I have 2 within a 90 minute drive.
I'm hoping to pair it with the Taichi, unless there's a better option in the same price range. I'm open to rec's
MC would be a great option for you then. They don't do online sales of CPUs or GPUs so they're able to hold stock better.
I am lucky enough to have a MC 13mins away
Taichi lite is honestly better
Or B650M/HDV is a world record holder
A620i Lightning also runs one better if you can do bios mods to turn it into a B650i Lightning
Taichi lite is probably overall best performer rn tho
It's been as low as like
200?
Really really good board
Or if you just want the features and not the overclocking, X670 UD is an easy winner
I like what i'm hearing. That was honestly my backup if I couldn't get my hands on the standard.
Yeah man
Think of X870, X670, B650 etc as just a type of usb hub
The performance of the motherboard is a separate part of it
The chipset choice will matter if you need to have a lot of something that's not normal
Like, overclocking, usb, pcie slots (Very expensive), audio, storage slots etc
I bring receipts btw
Extremely overbuilt budget board because asrock said so
Overclocks extremely well
That's incredible
Just food for thought
If you need to consider the case as a result of the board let us know
We can accomodate
I've already purchased the TT t500

I'm building a faster gaming pc for my son.
Ok he's using it just for games?
Last year I built him one with i9 12900k, 3080 10gb and 32gm DDR5 6600
I'm turning that one into the casual gaming PC for myself and work comp for the wife.
Right now just Fortnite and Valorant. He's younger, but looking to get him into some other RPG type games
he has a mic and camera as well.
Considering, but probably not at the moment. I have the corsair i170 420mm radiator going in it
Oh it won't need one
The thing has intel type temps lmao
I think I top out at like 70C on a 360mm
Yeah, that's not bad at all
Ok I'll drop 3 suggestions here
I was gonna suggest the taichi lite, but it's now 414
