Recovery?
Do you have any important data
Disk
Yea?
I think it did?
Im on this
Did it come with a install windows screen?
No
You're probably on the windows recovery
Restart your pc
Ok
And press f11 until you see the boot menu
Press any key for cd or dvd?
Huh?
Thats whay it told me at the top?
Show
Before I go sleep, if you haven't already, you could put the cmos battery back in before you forget and lose it
Is the cmos still out
Yeah you probably want to put it back in
Lmao
Ok will do when i put ram in
The disc boots into recovery mode it's just slightly different
It's not booting into the disc
What i do when im there(
You'd see a purple screen otherwise
I was using the weong keyboard lmao
Ok so press f11 when you pc is restarting
Actually spam it until you get into the boot menu
Advanced>troubleshoot>system image recovery
Or is this your first time
Nope wrong keyboard was plugged in
First time
Ok
IT RESTARTED ALL OF A SUDDEN
You know
One sec i can get back there
Fiery wait
What
How is your m.2 being held down
The ssd?
Friction
Yeah
Friction
What do you mean friction
There's no screw
Friction.
No screw
Pc is laying flat I believe still
Nope
Uh.
Oh
Well
Try putting something on it to hold it down
That may be a problem then
Like?
I mean ideally a screw 😂
You can hold it and see if it will boot
Lay it back down flat honestly, doesn't really matter if it's running while laying flat
If it's not held down it has a little lift tho and that could cause problems
Also in my experience, you don't need it down on the standoff to function, even with it just hanging there, usually it'll work, though usually I'd keep the mobo flat
Is this good?
No
Not that screw
No
That is too fat
Usually is silver
Very tiny
It has to specifically be a screw for the m.2. if you have the mobo box still there might be a spare in there
Maybe
But i wouldn't be this far without hope
When did the screw go missing
Eated it
It sucks cause that's like the smallest screw in the pc and it's not a standard screw to just have lying around a lot of times lol
I mean I have a ton of PC screws lying around
Just not that one
And a lot of them are interchangable
I never have enough fan screws for some reason
Which slot should i put the other ram in firs is in a2 i think
Both ram and bat in but no screw
Turning it on rn
I also got the clicks
The on light is back the red on
The vram light?
Ok turn it off and put that stick in A1 and try again
So a1 and a2m
Yeah
That will tell you if it's the ram stick or the slot
Alternatively you could put the second stick in the a2 slot and run that
F2
It's booting?
That means your ram is fine, but your b2 slot is broken
Does that mayter i only have to ram
Also it restarted should i try and boot to the cd?
Put the ram in A1 B1 and check if that boots
If it does then that will be fine and still run dual channel
Its diagnosing pc
Ok
I thonk its b1 that doesnt work
Caudr now its not working
Can i try a1 and b2?
I mean ideally you'd be in a2 b2
I can try
But you said earlier b2 was having issues
The order of slots is A1 a2 B1 b2
You need both the numbers to match
Whats the difference?
If B1 and B2 both don't work check the pins under the CPU and remount the CPU cooler. Sometimes a bad mount will cause memory channels to drop out, especially on Intel.
Read and writing simultaneously
What do you mean?
I cant remove the cpu or fan
Is both B1 and B2 not working?
Nope
Gonna try one last thing of a2 and b1
Ok just put them both in As for now but that's gonna be something you need to fix
Which likely means new mobo
Ok
Unless you have CPU pin damage, but I suspect is the socket
Its booting
I'ma have to go to bed
But basically you can try using the disc to reinstall window
Can you give a quick guide?
Just follow the prompts
Ok and thanks yall ill update yall if i get it
If it asks for a key, click "do this later" and when you get to windows desktop make sure you log in with your current account
Hopefully it will transplant your key
I have the key on a paper i think
Its just a a blue screen now
Nope
Im restarting my pc
I would also wait till you could get a m.2 screw tho. But that's my opinion
I think i should be fine
Everyone else was saying it would be fine but if it's not making good contact you can corrupt the drive
If the M.2 is held down and in place somehow then it'll be fine, but if it's just dangling at an angle out of the slot then it is not fine
Tape works temporarily
I have no eay to fix it as of now
Im trying to focus on getting the actual pc to work then i will tape it down
He just has it laying on it's side and just friction fitted in there, nothing holding it down
Its standing rn and not on its side
Oh that's worse
That's probably the reason it's going into boot loop if it's not already fried
While the pc is off please
I think that will be fine but I can barely see it
Gonna boot and find out
Its diagnosing
Click the first option when it pops up
Automatic repair
To boot to windows
It says restart or advanced options
Restart
Ok
To answer your earlier question, dual channel allows the PC to access both sticks at the same time, while single channel can only access one at a time. Single channel is much slower.
That's why you want dual channel.
Omg is that the screw
Bruh this has been a rollercoaster
Ok I gotta head to bed
Good luck on your endeavors. Lemme know what happens tomorrow
Now im not getting a screen😭
Nvm
how do you manage cables of fans and egb?
whats that thing called that goes in the back
I use those twisties that cables come with to keep them tidy
I need a decent gaming GPU preferably NVidia, used price, not sure what to get. 1080 or rtx 3050, aiming for under 200 usd, anyone feedback?
neither
get rx 6600 instead
better gpu than both of those
and 3050 is slower than 1080
1080 is slower than rx 6600
and if it's the 6gb 3050, that's even worse
it's as fast as 1060, that 6gb version
do you use blender?
hrm ok
and stable diffusion
but 3050 is pretty bad tbh
hard to recc
i'd probably try to find a used 2060?
or better
i just need a decent gpu, i'm building a system, i'm gonna put a 800$ gpu in but for now i need something decent but budget friendly
below 200 you don't have much of a choice, if at all
they're all bleh without amd
At what point do you think does Nvidia start to be come relevant again? price wise?
laptop
isn't that for radeons as well
7800xt, etc
no the entire mid range
if an exception would be made, or if amd didnt exist and you needed a card for less that like 250ish nvidia what would you do
the lower end
lol
used market
thing with the used market
prices vary a lot from region to region
Can you help me more i cant get wndows to boot
ok
i can see the log
well problem is the least crappy option is radeon
it also depends on the use case
am i gaming or doing actual work on it
if gaming then I'd just grab a used 2080 or something
or 1080ti
🤷♀️
1080ti is meh nowadays
I mean
for 250 it's too much
wait
currency conversion hold up
my gtx 1080 was...
$102
so yeah in the $130 category probs
for the ti
I'd say $250 for a 2070 super?
or a 2080
is that reasonable or still meh value
in terms of price/performance
oh yeah the non booting pc
uhh
what's the situation?
So i cant get to windows recovery or bios and any time i try and start up it instantly restarts with bsod
if it bsods then it got past the bios
I cant open bios tho
Lemme try r1
The monitor
ok so just mash the key
?
until you get into the bios
the best i can find rn
sometimes monitors are funny with post screens
remember 3060ti is 2080s in perf
much much faster than any 1080ti
Im in bios
so I'm using outdated data really
ok so
you might want to reinstall windows
do you have anything important on your ssd?
I tried when it finished it daid error and restarted
If i can get it to work then u can wipe it all
Yes and then when it was doen it crashed completely
What?
how did you reinstall it?
there's also this
3060ti's for below 250 are here and there
but they exist
I only have 1 stick kf ram in rn
nvm I thought that was a crappy chinese card
What? The ram?
was in reaction to foxy's post
still trying to figure out what the problem to your pc is
Ok
so you reinstalled using...?
The disk
as in the dvd?
Ye
ok so
Think I'm gonna go with $225 Used
EVGA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER XC ULTRA GAMING 08G-P4-3183-RX 8GB GDDR6
what was the first screen when you booted into the dvd
I mean yeah
if you don't wanna pay anymore than 225
2080s isn't a wrong choice
just that if you add like 25 more, you get a more efficient gpu that performs the same
this is 249
Like the choose your language amd stuff
ok so that's the actual installer
hmm
what step did you take next?
did you reinstall alongside old or wipe and reinstall
Let me see if i can get back to it
it's either funky microsoft shenanigans or something wrong with the ssd
I dont get to the windows loading so i cant get to recovery
I know just saying also should i remove the ssd?
I have a hdd
Yea it shows me arsenal gaming logo and just straight to bsod
I cant get to the cd
when you reboot
?
keep pressing f11
do it the instant you press the power button
keep pressing it until you get into the boot menu
if that doesn't work go into bios and send a screenshot
huh
Top one?
UEFI: ASUS SBW...
Just click it?
Ok i think i got to it
nice nice
So ot was loading and the bsod
it shouldn't bsod
It started loading then it did
that's when loading the disc?
ok
power off your pc
take the ssd out
and try to load into the windows thingy
actually what was the blue screen message?
if you remember
it's still bsoding without the ssd?
Ye
that's good to know
System thread not handled i think is what i said next time
How do i find out?
hm
ok I'm being too hasty with this
disregard my wild theory for now
we'll come back to it
Ok
try to swap your current ram stick with the other one
It keeps liek trying to start and bsod
Ok
Yea
and there's no windows dvd?
No
Yes
usually people install windows on the ssd
I just chose the first one 0
you really don't want a modern windows installation on a hard drive
oh
wait
ohhhhhhhhh
so that's a fresh install?
Yes i think i tried reseting and ot said ot couldn't at the end
so if there WAS something wrong with the ssd it would've picked it up
page fault
that sounds like a memory thing
have you tried swapping the ram?
I will now
make sure there's no power to the pc first
That should be easier since o have the screen now no?
What do you mean?
So take flash drive i used before put it ina dget it to do it?
get a new bios rom
Can i return the prebuilt if i used it?
I can just sell it on ebay probably
have you used it already tho
Slightly
oh well
That is whats on the usb now and what i tried before
I haven't cleaned it yet imma reformat
I reformatted it
Should i install a different file?
what's your cpu?
AMD Ryzen 7 5700X 8-Core, 16-Thread Unlocked Desktop Processor
yes
us but im gonna wait and just get a more expensive option
hmm
if you're going to wait
when the new gpu releases
prices will drop on used cards
so if you don't mind waiting a couple months
This good?
yes
Ok my pc is off should i eject it hit the button and pray?
Imma put the drive in my old pc and hope it goes well
Its flashing
Was the bios i used not good with my cpu?
Could be various issues
Very mid value tbh
$869 is wayyy too much
At least from a performance / $ perspective
That gpu cost more than my prebuilt thats kinda sucks tbh
Bad bios flash, buggy bios version
That's not why the value's bad
Oh whats with it?
price
good enough for...?
laptop
what's the use case tho
https://imgur.com/a/DjSdlZ7
https://www.amazon.com/CORSAIR-Dominator-Titanium-Compatible-Computer/dp/B0CHSGZDQD
it matches the aesthetic of my build
ram i changed btw
work
I mean it's not bad
generally with DDR4 3200 sodimms they're CL20-22
i do a little bit of everything, but mostly gaming / workstation / programming / gpu intensive / modeling related stuff
yeah
was referring to the ram the other person posted
cl 20
How do i know when it stops flashing?
idk about the ranking and all
oh lol
my kit specifically is cl22 so
i see
20's fairly good for that frequency
My pc just finished i think it powered off and on
The red light stopped flashing and is solid rn is that bad?
yes 16*2
what work do you do tho
wait how did you flash it again?
i run a server on my computer
I put the drive in the back and pressed the button
else 16 gb doesnt run my work or other's work
I see
Im getting bsod again
Think this is way out of my league
but generally speaking from a desktop / gaming / workstation workload perspective the sticks are fine
Are you talk9ng about my pc or the ram?
the ram
Ok
With a hard drive in the back
I put the drive in and pressed the button for a few seconds and it started
Acer Predator Pallas II 32GB (16GBx2) DDR5 6000MHz (White)
B450
DDR5 is out of my league sorry
yeah my info's a bit outdated
improbable but not impossible
Could i take it out put the ssd in and try?
What os csm/uefi?
ja
Should i screw it back down?
yes
Should i turn it off first?
100%
you can't do it otherwise
ok yeah reinstall windows then
SBW
Asus?
yes
Ok clicked
please reccomend some good pc cases that look like this
I still got bsod😭
yeah my mind's blank at this point
Lian Li O11D
Does the dvd drice need normal usb or blue ones?
shouldn't matter
ok something in your pc is funny
Like?
that's the headachy part
could be cpu, motherboard
could also be memory
if somehow both sticks failed
Can i just like send my pc to someone then they do it?
Yes?
Only thing thats in is ssd
judging by what we've seen so far
It's probably not the ssd
is the ssd in correctly
Its says f8 for startup setting
So if the recovery is on the dvd whay if i just unplugged it would thag answer that?
what
Didnt you ask if the recovery was on the dvd?
uh
that looks like you're in the recovery of the ssd
Is that good?
did you get the purple screen
No
ok you're on the ssd
So what should i do?
uh
at this point I don't even remember what I was doing 30 minutes ago so
my brain's getting sleepy
Wait now it says it cant write memory😭
I gulice up for tonight goodnight dude thanks for your help
Ill try again tomorrow
Just had to posibly lose the returnability of a new pc for it
GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC Graphics Card
https://www.ebay.com/itm/144716664086
Considering this, 260 USD and 2 year warranty
MSI GeForce RTX 3060 VENTUS 2X 12G OC, PCI-E Gen 4, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 (powered by Ampere—NVIDIA's 2nd gen RTX architecture), 12GB GDDR6 VRAM, Digital Maximum Resolution up to 7680 x 4320, 3 x DisplayPort v1.4a, 1 x HDMI v2.1, 8-pin Power Connectors, MSI Ventus Dual Fan Thermal Design: TORX Fan 3.0 + ZeroFrozr Technology (The fans completel...
ill just get a 3080

Aren't there Tis for the same price
Also ventus cards are uh
They're pretty much the modern MSI Armor
I have an idea. What's your rebuilt specs? If they're compatible, we can swap parts around to make the rebuilt a lot better.
Yes
Which specs specifically?
Like what CPU and mobo
Well i still cant boot google
What
On the prebuilt?
No
The pre built im probably gonna wipe and sell/return
Amd focus on fixing my old one its probably cheaper and bwttwr
I'm talking about the prebuilt. The old PC doesn't work but has better parts, we could transplant parts from the old PC into the new prebuilt to make the prebuilt better.
I think at the very least your mobo is messed up or possibly your cpu. The issues you are having are weird but either way even if you fix it, you're gonna need a new mobo as B1 and b2 don't work
And the blue screen seems to point to there being other issues with either the cpu or Mobo as well, I suspect mobo
You were asking about putting the GPU into your prebuilt, you could do that if you change over the PSU too. If your old CPU is better than the prebuilt, and it has a compatible Mobo, you could swap that over too if you have thermal paste. Then you could probably put the ram in the prebuilt as well, then you'd have a much better PC. You could also put the hard drive and probably the m.2 in the prebuilt for more storage as well.
But CPU and RAM depend on the prebuilt PC specs.
The prebuilt cant fit much id much rather sell it and fix my older one it would be cheaper cause id probably just need to replace a mobo
Im trying once more to start my pc up and it doesnt seems to be working i think im going to replace the ssd and see if that helps
Wait i got the the windows download
If I go onto bios and turn secure boot on why does it continue to turn off ?
what is the correlation
Talking to me
yeah
wait
oh you mean the setting keeps turning off?
i assume you have like, a msi bios
this happened to me as well, it was some bios setting that was conflicting with it
iirc the fix was to disable tpm and re enable it
or smth
ah it was the PK keys
Sp toggle pk keys ?
Basically, re enroll them or smth, just change the setting then change it back
I'll try thanks
Yeah I had a similar issue when upgrading to Windows 11 on my current pc
Been trying to get valorant to work after building new pc
im assuming it isnt launching properly?
the way they worded it sounds like it doesnt even launch
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0CB6ZWHGT/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?smid=ATO3RWH7VGA18&psc=1 pretty sure this isnt the right channel, but how is this for studying Mechanical Engineering tech
dells dont tend to have the best price to performance; some people here probably have better value recommendations
also gaming laptops usually are very good workstation laptops for cheaper than laptops marketed as workstations
$800?
That's getting into 3060 price range
A dgpu would be a lot better if you end up doing CAD
Especially considering the fact that you're getting a lot more performance for the same price
i bought a gtx 980 for 75
for my case swap im doing i have 7 thermalright rgb fans, ive never built with rgb fans before, will i need like a header or something for that
rgb and cables scare me
wrong person lol
meant to reply to, but 747 you were also part of that conversation
idk if i made a mistake paying 75 for the 980, or what but it seems like it does better than any of the others that were more expensive
the price isn't really the issue here
maxwell cards don't get driver updates anymore
so while it's on par with say a GTX 1660
It's not going to age well
arguably it's already not aging too well
I mean it should still work for another x years even with outdated drivers no?
I used a GTX 950 for 10 years and it was fine
until it stopped working
that was when the 950 was new
in those 10 years you mostly had driver support
you're pretty much buying a card as old as the 950 but in the current day
while on paper it's still fairly decent
the lack of driver updates will really drag down the performance
^
would you have any other rec?
Genuinely I wouldn't purchase any of them
B760m pg sonic wifi, gaming x ax, a similar b760m
$160 is the most I'd spend for one of them ^
Also pg riptide is great
Also, have you bought any parts yet?
Not really a build but its a laptop.. im just wondering which laptop is better worth it the msi one is 800 and the hp one is 650… i really didnt think hp was a good brand so i was wondering the best advice on which one to get
Not my pc its a friends who is downsizing
Can I see whatever pcpartpicker list you're working with rn
Im still finding out what parts they have
tuf 4080 and 13700kf
trying to fit into lian li a3 matx case
i assume their psu fits and that storage + ram is already figured out
Part List - Intel Core i7-13700K, GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, Jonsbo Jonsplus Z20 MicroATX Desktop
Yep, just make sure cooler fits too
Imo z1 plus is a nicer case
Or z20 in that list I linked
Ya i tried to push for jonsbo but they liked the lian li one better
Z1 plus is the mitx version iirc
lmao i didnt know there was a sonic motherboard
Also have you checked out the im01 and it's variants on newegg?
There's a new one that's basically just a mesh box and it's tiny
It makes your pc run faster
Im telling him that
Ill check that out
apparently they have 13900k
is the b760m gaming x ax still ok
Yeah
Thx
What would be a good cooler for that then
im not familiar with coolers for higher cpu tdp
For a 13900k you need a 360mm aio
Part List
good laptops for Mechanical engineering tech?
What is good ram to go with a b550 tomahawk max?
Asus ones
No
Gaming laptops. Unironically
Ideally decent specs with 32gb
8gb vram+
And a nice 6 core or better
All three things matter if you do more than light MechE stuff
Any better/cheaper PSU + mobo?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower
Idk why that took forever
Ok apparently they have ddr5 and not ddr4
so the gaming x AX wont work
what are some good ddr5 options ?
Sonic
Genuinely
Basically any b760 that looks like the vrms have solid heatsinks
https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/KHDVN6 first option
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, Montech AIR 903 MAX ATX Mid Tower
This saves so much money

Sorry yeah I meant to do another
Got side tracked
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, Montech AIR 100 ARGB MicroATX Mid Tower
And one more comping up for cheaper
Part List - Intel Core i5-12400F, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti, Montech AIR 100 ARGB MicroATX Mid Tower

i cant find any
not very good at is
That's not too bad
especially with it being on clearance
do you think it'd be suitable for Mechanical Engineering tech?
thats probably better than my current pc
I'd be going the slim imo
I think so tbh
If it has a 1x16 you could stick a second one in for 32gb ram
Solid PC in general at that point @nova apex
double as gaming as well
ty for the help
really appreciate it
huh?
ahh
My prebuilt pc cpu has drivers from 2009 how do i update them?
There's no cpu drivers you need to update
CPU drivers are the microcodes stored in the bios
no
while you won't run into capacity issue
you will run into bandwidth bottleneck
Ok thats my problem than
which will slow you down anyway
My motherboard only has 2 slots can i still get dual channels?
Wdym?
i don't recommend buying another stick of ram to add
Just buy a pack of 2 you mean?
Oh i get what your saying how do i know if the ram goes with my motherboard?
So i have 1 stick of ddr4 so i can put any ddr 4?
Explain?
Speed is how fast your ram can transfer data
Is this good?
I'd get 3200mhz
But no
Corsair ddr4 is terrible
Wait, isn't the prebuilt equipped with 5600G?
Or something
The cpu?
Ye
Ok so usa by the looks of it
Just get silicon power 3200 2x16
$51
Don't spend really any more than that as top shelf ddr5 is $83
Becomes not worth it
Or get a used 3200 2x16 32gb kit
$30-ish
I found silicon power 2x16gb 3200 mhz ddr4 for 60 bucks
