Pots?
I got sent a bean pot in place of lawn mower blades
Nice
Did you put beans in it
I was just hating on armoury crate
Armoury crate has been ok of late
Used as a compost holder now haha
Use openrgb if you don't like it
@dusky hearth what's that alternative to AC you use
DC
I'm gonna DC you
Yeah yeah
I switched storage to something a little cheaper
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 3600, GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
NV2 is a lottery
Armoury crate on my laptop is fine, not a fan, but don't hate it since I need it rn
You either get worse than alternatives or maybe better
I’m hoping I win
Honestly the laptop version is like 10x better
It works and has worked for a long time well
Desktop has not
Nope

Only recently has it gotten somewhat stable
Ye alec showed us that
I haven't tried to use it yet
Alec or scp?
felix
I enjoy gigabytes software more than crate
I thought it was Alec
"pookie" as he calls himself
dookie?
Yea
@tidal sphinx hey dookie
He sent the github link me thinks
was it you who gave us an alternative to dookie armoury crate
Felix here
LOL you pinged the wrong person
Welp
@dusky hearth
Why is he a man getter in this server
I enjoy when fusion takes 20 minutes to start
I need context!
random ass question but do you have like formal education in pc stuff it seems like you have an answer to every question
i stalk the server
If by formal you mean, browsing the internet for 10 minutes every morning and trying my hand at every consumer architecture in the last 6-8 years, yes
Aren't you mech e rn felix
That's what i thought lol
But same curiosity about learning how things work
And how to apply that

We've seen that in other places
Pandora's box
Strange question
Why are Asian food places so good at making small containers fit so much food
It's like a genie's lamp
Every time you get something to go
Cuz Asians want the most for the buck 😁
Like a cereal bowl but 4x more dense
We love a good deal kekw
It's literally 3 meals in a box the size of like 2 phones
I love it
Not all, but commonly that is the case
I feel like now I could travel most of Asia and not feel adverse to food
Just avoid places that do like snake head
jewish people too
I don't eat my natural australian enemies
especially jewish grandmas
It is definitely for me, if I host you, then you're getting a lot of leftovers
Anybody who isn't European or North American
😂
When I say Asian, I mean middle east as well because people forget it is apart of Asia
Rather they selectively keep it out of what's considered Asian
Regardless, good food culture, diverse
Middle east to me is like a DDR4 LGA1700 board
Like that's a really cool board
But are you new gen or old gen

Are you Asia or Europe like
Eurasia moment
I would not consider turkey as part of asia
Turkey is europe yeah
It's this weird middle ground
Also African continent
💀
Guess my comparison doesn't make a lot of sense at all if I think about it
I have long wanted to go to Egypt though
Not really, but i got the point
Since I was a kid I was fascinated with Ancient Egypt culture
Because ddr4 is distinct from ddr5
While middle east is convoluted
As far as categorization

Haha
Europe and Asia are very much connected
And are in fact an entire continent
But by our definition we treat them exclusive rather than inclusive
It's easier to just either leave in or out middle east for Asia yea, and keep it separate
Boing
But anyway, back to FOOD
So yea, we Asians love giving foodge and use it to show our love
I've had a huge craving for singapore noodles lately
Dan dan sounds good rn
Dammit Felix
Whenever we talk about food, it makes me hungry for noodles
Dim sum omg
Build a PC? More like build a heaping plate of noodles and dim sum
Build chat more like recipe chat
I think I'm gonna buy dim sum tomorrow
I'm going to be out tomorrow
Out to get dim sum
Lol. It runs like it's on a HDD on both a HDD and on the fastest SSD's in the world
Pro tip; don’t stop with av in gif search
Chat how can I reset a ssd without being able to access the computer?
Access in what way
Physically opening it or running it
And if your answer is both I recommend remote desktop tools
I wanna wipe it entirely
So when I take it out of the laptop
I can put it into a future build
A lot of laptops (and desktops for that matter) have a "secure erase SSD" function in the BIOS
If it doesn't then you can boot a Linux OS off a USB to erase things
So if I use the ssd in my build
And go on bios
It most likely will have an erase feature?
Most modern boards have it yes
Pretty much every one I've looked at from the last 5 years or so
Oh that's not outdated at all
Oh Alr
Also
Do you know what is possible to take out of a laptop
And to put in a pc build
I have asrock too, let me find it in my bios and hopefully it's in the same place for you
ssd
Is that it?
SSD is pretty much the long and short of it
Not even ram?
no
Almost every other part is proprietary or a different form factor
MSI is stuck in 2010
The gpu just gave up completely
So I wanna take everything I can
Cause I can’t rlly sell it
you could for parts
No one would be interested tbh
You can sell it "for parts" on ebay and someone will buy it
not sure how much youd get, what were the specs?
They are garbage
i doubt that
Like hot garbage
Doesn't matter
Well kinda
brb snapping pic of bios
8 gigs of ram i7 12900kf 1660 super 512gb storage
10750h?
Turns out you don't need a pic it's right under the "tools" menu
But Ik the gpu is a 1660
id guess around 125-200
It’s faulty tho
yeah
Would somebody still want it tho
Nah more than that
30-50
50 maybe
Depends what brand rlly
All ik is the cpu is a core i7
Don’t know the exact model
ok
If it's a 1660 maybe it's a 10700H
U can run 2 ssds in a build right?
There's no limit
Would u need extra cables tho?
There's a number of slots on a board but you can get expansion cards
My dude
Ok
Dang sold for 182
Not bad
I mean I bought for 900
So terrible
But uh I mean hey
I can put it towards my new build
id probably do starting bid around 150
if theres a sticker on the back of the laptop theres probably a model number or smthn
Problem is tho I’m in a international country right now
if you find it i can find the specs out
So it would cost a lot to ship it atm
You can sell local to wherever you are
honestly might sell for more lol
Nobody here would be interested lmao the keyboard is in English and 99% of ppl here speak Arabic
Hint I’m in Iraq
Keyboards are $15 and easy swaps
I mean I’ll try
Ima start cheap
And just put 150
See how hi I can get
Doesnt eBay take a lot of money
Depends on their mood that day but they take anywhere from 0-12%
There's often promos for reduced or no fees up to a limit
I searched up stuff in my area
Literally little to nothing
However I can put it on Facebook
Facebook is popular

Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7900 GRE, Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower
just bought the parts
looks like a pretty good list
Microsoft datacenter
They have to lift the whole canister of servers every few months or smth to scrape off all the bio growth on it
I think it was half a year
Half a year to a year is standard practice for maritime maintenance
thanks
So we’re stealing my build
Jp I have a very similar one tho
@cyan ravine
Wanna talk more about tech
lol
based
@potent portal yo
I found a oled monitor 240 hz 0.04 ms response time for 380
Not bad right?
Used?
Yeah that's pretty good
Just make sure no burn in
thoughts? https://pcpartpicker.com/list/ykpPqR
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 3700X, Radeon RX 6750 XT, Asus Prime AP201 MicroATX Mini Tower
5600 beats the 3700X in gaming and it's the same or cheaper on AliExpress
It's an alright build, but I second what fal said, I would get the 5600
Noticeable jump, even if you won't use aliexpress it shouldn't cost too much more and would be worthwhile
And I'd grab this if you can spend the extra
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/97848d/seasonic-focus-gx-750-w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-focus-gx-750
as long as youre not spending 200 on that psu, good list
Like I said, already have it
ah missed that
Got it for $125 at microcenter a while back
Case recommendations anyone?
Nvm got some
But dang new egg is way cheaper than Amazon
Put the exact same stuff and it’s 100 bucks more expensive
for dual tower fans specifically the phantom spirit se, could i move the second fan to the other side ehere it doesnt cover the ram?
you can, doesnt really matter where the fans are on it so long as its in the correct configuration to push air out to the back
got a 5600,4060ti if in my place what would you guys upgrade next
yeah i was shocked when i saw dipping below 60fps in the cyberpunk dlc
gpu usage also dropped
hardware unboxed tests in a much easier place in the dlc hence the numbers of every cpu are soo inflated

Not always, depends on what you're getting
My PC build was a mix between a few companies because it was cheaper on some others
?
5600 is plenty for a gpu like the 7800xt or similar at 1440p
I could see 7900 gre being ok
I got slight bottlenecking on my 5600G with my 6800 XT
That was also only COD and it was a minor bottleneck at 1440p, so you're probably right also given that idk what the settings were for the game
5600G is also essentially a 3600X with an igpu
Almost the same, not quite
Half the cache makes a difference
@mossy venture https://pcpartpicker.com/list/sbxzcH
What cheap monitor should I get for this? I currently have an acer SB220Q
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
oh gotcha
haven't checked the specs in a while lol
forgot that it's not just a 5600 with graphics lol
Totally different design yep
You can run fast memory on the G chips too without desync problems.
I see people run 4800 1:1
If you can manage it high enough you can make up *for the cache loss on the G chip
Works like that for several games at least
guys am going to buy a new pc but idk what would i get cpu one of my friends says to wait one month for the zen 5 and other says i5 12600k is better
and i want 4070 as gpu
There's no world where the 12600K is better than a similar price AM5 chip
Unless there's some crazy sale I don't know about
Zen 5 is also going to be a lot more than one month. Maybe 5-6 until we see desktop parts.
ya but the zen 5 of amd is later this year or early 2025 isn't?
ya thats what i mean
idk what to buy
Zen 4 is great right now
better than intel?
I'm most ways yes
7800x3d
bec i have i5 9400f right now and it's bad
I can't recommend the 13900K or 14900K for high end buyers anymore either because of the power problems.
Single best gaming CPU right now
ryzen 5 zen 4 will be any different?
i mean from my cpu
The 7600? It's still a great chip. Better than the 12600K for gaming. Usually.
is it last one out from amd bec i don't understand amd cpus
If you're on a tight budget you can get a 7500F off AliExpress. It's just a 7600 with the iGPU removed.
That is the current generation yes
what the different between the ryzen 5 7800 and the 7600?
The 7800X3D has a massive L3 cache that games can store instructions in. It's a good 25% better at gaming over the 7600 iirc. More in some games.
X3D
X3D exists
ur mom exists (she's very nice)
Ur mom doesn't
:0
(disappeared after mass bread incident)
mass bread incident? sounds like an australian thing
thank you bro i think am going with the 7600 and 4070 super
Yeah, went to get bread, disappeared with thousands of others
Similar to the Mass Milk Catastrophe?
"By guys I'm going out to get bread. I'll be back" (1,091 injuries, 3,328 dead)
Why's it sound like a KDA ratio when you write it that way
💀
the US has a pretty good KDA ratio
fun
we gaming
😭😭
@mossy venture
few min for othjer options
prolly some amazon warehouse options too
If I can’t find anything cheaper, I’ll probably go for this one to my budget list
what cooler for 5600x?
how back is stock tho
Oh alright
Not like intel stock noisy anyway
Thanks
Np
If i got something like this how would i control the color of the argb fans?
Would it just plug into the 4 pin argb header on my motherboard
Yes, 4 pin fan header for speed control and 3 pin ARGB header
"Addressable Gen 2 RGB headers" for aura sync is just plain old ARGB then
Yes
Thank you
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, Radeon RX 6750 XT, Jonsbo D30 MicroATX Mini Tower
Thinking of caving in on something like this soon, does it look okay?
How you doing felix
Are either of them considered "ovens"
Hi
D31 is the successor to the d30
And argb-q5 is a lian li 205m from the oem
Both mesh cases
I saw a benchmark on Fortnite with the 7900 gre on highest settings 1080p it was getting 500 fps wild
The sama is a very good case for flips
If you do argb-q5 you can swap the psu to something a little nicer
Like a focus 750w if they're still on sale
A650bn is fine but it's kind of on the limit there imo
Btw do yk if a acer predator ssd is good @cyan ravine
I think im going with the jonsbo, I've stared at an HP 💩 box most of my life and want a change of scenery to something more minimal
Heard rlly good things
Gm7000 is nice
But not needed
Theres a screen variant of the d31?
@cyan ravine yk that gigabyte board I had in my build
I searched it up on Amazon and they had a better version on sale from 230 to 1.99
199
So I copped it
And the one I had was 190 but worse
I don't remember the board I put
I do way too many lists in a week, I can never keep track
Animated wallpaper or aida sensor panel would be the typical play
Even just using it for a spare screen lol, I've done that before with my sensor panel
B650 I think
I got the b650 elite instead
5500 cpu okay for 1080p gaming?
is fine
It's quite decent tbh if you can get it significantly cheaper than the 5600/x
$80?
vs. $100 5600X? no
I see
What about like $270 3070 vs $300 6750xt
the 6750xt has 12gb vram and 3070 only 8gb so i feel like maybe the extra $30 might be worth for the 6750xt
in 1080p sense?
yeah
6750XT has better low resolution scaling than 3070
VRAM won't do anything in this context for years, all games coming out exceeding 8gb get their asses reeled in and updates fix it for a vast majority
Not worth being pedantic about it yet
Not when almost the entire mid to low range is 8gb
Unless you're playing vr
I've never known it to do that but I trust your word
I wont be playing VR
But amd has a history of being kinda weird for vr
VR is cool when you don't have to pay for it
I've never had problems with amd and VR but other people have as well
Neither
the $270 3070 is an asus dual and the $300 6750xt is an XFX Speedster QICK 319 Core
if that helps
I've heard good things about asus dual cooling but idk anything about xfx cards
If you're doing work like, blender optix, certain parts of maya, specifics with davinci resolve, premiere pro, solidworks
No, cs major lol
Lots of workstation stuff, 3070 would be nicer
but if just normal gaming, maybe some dabbling, 6750
My friend hates xfs lol they always got the crappy ones from them ☠️
XFX ❤️
319 should be fine though
Im trying to paste a picture but my win lock wont turn off so nevermind
6750xt it is, then
Is the 6750xt or the 6700xt the same price? The performance difference isn't that big
NVidia #1, SMH
same price
Ah
Intel > AMD
Bigger number better in this case?
Nvidia > AMD
I was going to call you out but then i click your profile
Silly alec
Lmaooo
Good enough for me
I'm on a 560 rn soooo really looking for any improvement over here
Imma
you @cyan ravine
Im afraid to ask what that entails
Also how has your status been the same thing for like the past 4 years bro
In a minute?
I changed it
You know it
Wait, are you the same Cameron from like years ago?
It originally was coronavirus battle Royale
I've heard of that before but i dont think i really need it I'm only going to be playing video games with the card
Then I change it to mutated
Yeah...
Then I changed it to (is over)
Tf happened to you?
Bro disappeared
Youngling
Bruh I forgot you were a child
I joined in like 8th grade
I’m going into my third year of college 💀
Felix
ig
Felix
Oh
Don’t make me egg you in a minute
???????????
I thought you were going to say some eggcelent pun
I'm not that eggsquisite bro
You've betrayed my eggspectations
Try again neggs time
never gets old
You’re my newegg 😉
We've been here so long nothing is new
Lmao
I spent too much time here in a short period of time that I had to refrain from talking here so I could resume my life
I appreciate you guys being able to help out, I think I'll scrape the funds together within my next paycheck and pull the trigger on the build 👍🏻
Oh yeah 2 other exceptions for Nvidia
Some Minecraft shaders
(The one I used) Only supports Nvidia due to AMD constantly changing their OpenGL or whatever it was in their drivers which keeps breaking it
Latest stable driver on amd is from 2022
For that shader
Or AMD getting you banned in CS2
Just buy a 14900ks and a 4090 and be done with it
3d reconstruction program that's open source uses CUDA cores so that also requires a ngreedia gpu
Not all
Some are better on AMD
You also have ZLUDA translation layer so the gap becomes a lot smaller
i meant a specific one that is open source that uses a bunch of photos to create a 3d mesh
name was like meshroom or smth
stack overflow?
🧐
Yea
@cyan ravine
Instead of the b650 eagle ax I got the b650 elite aorus
Isn't the eagle 150
Ah the sale changed, it's now 170
@wary gale if you can still cancel:
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/CFzhP6/msi-pro-b650-p-wifi-atx-am5-motherboard-pro-b650-p-wifi
Difference between them should be minor, at a glance 2 less usb, but still 8
Yes the aorus elite is a gigabyte
Aorus is gigabyte's brand
Eagle is also gigabyte
They'll all perform the same
Dang it has 5 year warranty
AM5 is overbuilt to the point the differences in board are practically non-existent except for extras
The world record for AM5 OC is held by a $110 asrock barebones board with a 7950X
So should I just get the cheaper motherboard
If you really want the board, $200 isn't bad, but I would consider that $50 extra for something else performance-wise
Like what?
Better ssd?
No
I mean that is a good upgrade
$50 would get a bigger ssd yes
Oh
Or I could save for that oled monitor
Not better but bigger
50$ would help
mb I was reading wrong
Your g
Yea
But for some reason
On pc builder
The total is 1520
I put everything on amazon
It’s 1581
Yes because sticking to one seller you will always pay more
You're shopping in one place
PCPP mixes it all for the best deals
What is pcpp?
Oh nvm
Pc part builder
ye
Should I shop in 1 place or multiple
always wherever it's cheapest overall
Alr
Add it all up, taking shipping and tax into account
alr
$10 for that extra speed is fine
It's still $125?
this one
Also I didn't recommend it for speed, I recommended it for good reviews
Speeds are just marketing
This is just a good ssd
Wherever it's cheapest
They are double the price on Amazon
Thermalright is usually best on Amazon iirc
Thermaltake notte is 100$ on new egg lmao
If I were to order all on Amazon
It would be 1680
Including taxes and shipping
As long as you find the cheapest way to order all the same things, it's worth it
The store itself doesn't matter really
Pc builder with taxes would only cost 1649
Pcpp doesn't always include shipping
TLDR: Buy from wherever it's cheapest
so the dude in the dark alley downtown with that huge black overcoat
yeah
as long as you get to test it :)
Yes definitely bring your $3k PC to that meetup so you can test a GPU. That's a great idea.
just bring a mini pc with 15 adapters to test it
Just curious how bad are these boards
Im assuming they are cheap because they have poor performance and underwhelming feature sets
I mean, they'll work
I'd recommend only one of those and it's the prime II
It runs a 5600
Nothing more
Specifically that board has a bios flash button
Also, iirc $5 more gets a TUF a520m II
Which runs a 5950x
One of the best low cost boards rn for am4
They'll work, but B450 is likely to need a bios update for 5000 series cpus, and A520 has limited overclocking and some only have 1 m.2 slot :(
how long on average does it take yall to build a pc
Physically? Or a list for one?
If it's my baby, days
If it's just something normal
2 hours max
Typically for someone's first build 3 hours with everything going right is a fair assumption
real
My first build wasn't running for like 5 days bc I'm an idiot
physicslly
fair enough
My fiancés pc took me like 40~ minutes
But my original pc took me 5 hours
So
Depends on the parts tbh
My advice: get a modular PSU
Save the headache
@thorn mural https://sellout.woot.com/offers/msi-mpg-amd-b550-gaming-plus-motherboard?ref=mwj_sh_cp_44_bs
No wifi but unbeatable
dorm doesnt have ethernet so i gotta get a board with wifi
asus stole my m.2 wifi card when i sent my lappy in for rma and my only other wifi cards are e key
oh i did
If I speedrun, I can install everything in 30 mins
Then spend 2 hours troubleshooting all the mistakes I did in those 30 mins frfr /hj
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/vnB2Cd
thoughts on this build i put together for my friend? he already has the cpu/gpu/ssd so its mainly getting the best supporting components
That's not too bad
There are cheaper alternatives, but what's there is good
Remind him to set up the cpu to run the intel stock profile (255W Power Limit, 200A ICCmax) to avoid the 14700K degrading
@glad lodge As much as I could trim it tbh
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/kyfJ9c
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700K, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, Phanteks XT PRO ATX Mid Tower
So about 100-ish
The 850W works, You shouldn't need 1000W, but the 1000W picked was a good choice iirc according to arisreviews
I have had some bad experiences with msi mobos, not gonna do that
Both lists are fine, $100 for aesthetics is good
Is he going to OC at all?
ye I figure best to pick one that will last for another build past this at least
nope pretty casual user
but yeah ty for the sanity check
Moreso me asking cos Asrock boards are terrible for mem compatibility bar the Aqua and...
I...can't remember the name of the other
Nova I think?
On LGA1700 Asrock has had real troubles with DDR5
Conversely they're the best for AM5
If it's just XMP it's fine, but they can get funky with mem oc
yeah I figured I'd tell him to do xmp since it's a factory recommended overclock, if that makes sense, so I hope it will run 6000. not like some of the crazy speeds
I've seen Asrock Z790's not even hit 5600 ngl
Probably unlikely to occur now? I'm often recommending Asrock
But worth remembering if he runs into XMP troubles
yeah it's like $100 cheaper than the next brands, but I'll keep it in mind
The ram case and fans though are all solid if he likes it
Never heard issues with SP, the XMP and kit underneath is the same
for an overclocking build what mobo brand do you think does the auto optimization best? ik it used to be asus but it seems they've gotten worse. thinking for myself in the future
Auto optimization will never be that good, you'd see very minor gains
You'd see more of a difference watching a YouTube video on ddr5 ram tuning
And spending some time messing with timings, and depending on cpu seeing how high of a speed it'd handle
https://youtu.be/dlYxmRcdLVw?si=C3CClYoVdyFet4xA
Any Hynix based memory kit should be able to do this unless you're very unlucky.

It should still work on Intel afaik
Even on m die?
Oh I misread that
I thought it said 7000mhz lmao
ok ty
I need help
Is it better to get a 360mm aio for 120$ or a peerless assassin for 59$ and 3x120mm fans
for any am5 cpu or intel cpu below 14700k, peerless assassin
or phantom spirit
phantom spirit is technichally a lil better but wont make much of a diff
2-3c at most
I’m using a ryzen 7 7700
@mossy venture what do you think I should do in my situation
peerless assassin, 3 pack of thermalright c12c fans if case has less than 3 fans
It has 4 pre installed fans
Every AM5 CPU is perfectly happy with the PA or the other great dual towers
3 intake 3 exhaust
Even the 7950X is happy on it. It'll hit the thermal limit but you won't lose performance, that's just how it's designed.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7700, Radeon RX 6800, Cooler Master Masterbox 520 ATX Mid Tower
What do you think
@potent portal @mossy venture can you check my build if it’s good
?
That paste is actually pretty bad
cooler will come with paste
Is it good paste
What would be considered good stuff
This would be a better cooler too https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/MzMMnQ/thermalright-phantom-spirit-120-se-argb-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-ps120se-argb
Mx5?
What would be the best one paste in your opinion
best for what
Tg kryo is 8$ for 1g
Thermal paste
mx4/mx6 is best for longtivity, kpx only lasts like a year or so before degrading or smth like that
So mx4?
mx4 is good enough for most uses
MX4 is best price/performance
Anything more isn't worth it
Maybe 2 degrees better. No difference in practice.
Until you get to liquid metal but that's a whole other story
(you don't want liquid metal)
me when 45 grams of mx4
I got a 20g tube
We luv LM
I should probably get some K5 pro and repaste my GPU soon
I haven't done PC maintenance in ages
Ping me in 2 and a half hours to remind me to post a picture of my dusty PC filters
Its terrible
My VRAM temps have always been bad but now I'm tagging 100C just gaming
wild price history for mx4 (45g)
Less than $1 per g is crazy good value, but it does expire eventually
how long can you store it for anyways
i mean, theoretically for at minimum a few years
also this is in canadian dollars so it's even cheaper when compared to USD
MX-6 stonk
It has an expiration printed on it
So so I stay with cooler thermal paste or get thermal paste
The paste it comes with is fine
lil dumb question but how do i take off the back panel of the xt pro ultra case
like i unscrewed the sides but its not budging
Looks like it just slides to the rear like a normal case
Pull the handle
If the manufacturing tolerances are off it might get a little tight
oh my goodness i js didnt pull hard enough thank u
It can be a little scary pulling or pushing hard on it at first
It's more sturdy than you think
ok so i got it to turn on
only thing that didnt is the exhaust fan and all of the fans that came with the case are a-rgb
Can anyone recommend an intel CPU and NVIDIA 4000 series graphics card to pair together? Trying to prevent bottlenecking but not break the bank.
I don't typically recc nvidia gpus
Because they're usually meh in value
But there's cases where Nvidia is worth the money
What do you do with your pc?
Intel is also kinda iffy atm with instability issues if you plan to run multi core workloads
General gaming and everyday use. My PC is showing it's age and it's time to upgrade.
I've gone off of NVIDIA/Intel because I'm just tech-literate enough to have a frame of reference for what's current and what's older.
I built my PC close to ten years ago and it's showing its age. I'm open to going the AMD route as it's a little cheaper, but I've seen that the performance for AMD/ryzen products typically fall just short of beating intel/nvidia components
But if you have a build recommendation for something that's pretty current and around the $1300 range I'll consider it
Alrighty. Do you need wifi?
No
Are you looking for a certain look?
No
Thanks! Feel free to go above or below that price point as needed.
I'll try to stay as close as I can
Would you happen to know if m.2 drives install/function the same way on an AMD mobo vs. intel?
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7900 GRE, Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower
They install and function the same, yes
And for ~1250 bucks, you get 1440p capable pc
1254 to be specific lol
Lol. How long would this particular build future-proof me in terms of hardware? Think I could get several out of it?
Easily
I'd maybe get a nicer cpu
But that's optional rn
Part List - AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 7900 GRE, Phanteks XT PRO ULTRA ATX Mid Tower
Like here's this for 1410
And you get the fastest cpu for gaming
I can minmax this more
Like a cheaper but less feature packed board
Nah this is pretty good. Thanks so much!
I do see a couple of compatibility notes—though I know pcpartpicker isn't always 100% accurate. Any issues to worry about there?
Nope
Everything will work
If you do run into issues, you can come back here
It's either faulty parts or some other stuff, but that chance is low anyway
Right. I appreciate the help and punctual response. Thanks so much!
You're welcome
Have fun with your new pc once it's put together
Also AM5 cpus use LGA sockets
So they're just like Intel now lol
Oh that's nice
Gotcha
It should come with the brackets needed to mount it though, right? Been a minute since I've built a pc
Yes
Yep, the cooler comes with it
Friend told me to come here with questions- I'm looking to spend 1500-1750 USD on a build using the fractal north case. Bluetooth and Wifi are needed. Mainly gaming but also possibly using it for CAD design software like AutoCAD/Solidworks. Any advice would be welcome
I’m the friend 🫡
Which color North do you prefer?
Black
Alright I'll put together a list of things I recommend. I know solidworks likes CPU and RAM.
Thanks doc
How loud are be quiet wing 4 120mm vs p12 max?
AMD option https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CbWZTY
Intel option https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2Y4DgB
They'll perform pretty similarly in most things. The AMD chip will have an advantage in some games but might need some minor tweaks to work well.
Part List - AMD Ryzen 9 7900X3D, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
Part List - Intel Core i7-13700K, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
Professional programs tend to prefer Nvidia GPUs still, to the point where the 7900 XTX performs like the 3060 in some tasks.
You could possibly get a refurbished or used 4070 ti super for a nice upgrade there.
Thanks a lot. I'll be looking through this for a while. Gavin said you were the GOAT and you are
Nah there's some people here that do it as well or better than me. You might get a couple of them chiming in soon.
I’d put a ironic gif but I’m on my phone
I thought the Ryzen 7 7800x3d (or whatever it's called) performed better in games than the Ryzen 9?
You held my hand when I was physically putting my build together so
It does, but if you're looking at professional tasks the 7900X3D has 50% more cores so it finishes sims in much less time.
The 7800X3D is the gaming king
13700K is a "fewer compromises" option here I think, unless you want the ability to upgrade the CPU later.
speak of the devil
Intel better but you need to set up the motherboard to use default power limits
255W PL 200A ICCmax
After some deliberation if I wanted more in the realm of gaming with some side productivity how should I modify it?
Like barely at all
A little less CPU more GPU
Cad systems and gaming systems go almost hand in hand
If he did just gaming he could prob do like a 7900 XT
If CAD is on the table at all I'd hate to recommend an AMD GPU
There's room in the budget for more RAM
Reason why is more gb more better for simulations
I figured it wasn't going to be huge sims but yeah there's room for it
More or less this
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/LCf734
Part List - Intel Core i7-13700K, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
Cooler is only slightly better, but an option
Yeah I was looking at that memory too, decent latency
Actually wait
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700KF, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
It fits
@iron dove
Just have a read of this
#cpus-mobo-and-memory message
And remember this particular two settings
Power limit
255W
14700K is getting into danger territory. Make absolutely sure you update BIOS or it might crash at stock settings or die over time.
Wasn’t intel crashing in some games
Why not just go like 78/7900X3D
You fix the risk of degradation by adding power and current limit
It was crashing when compiling shaders for Unreal Engine games, which hits every core 100%
Intel is better to the point you may as well underclock
Isn’t that like 90% of what new games run on
No? It's significant but not that much
Remember this is a CAD system primarily
If this is too concerning, go Ryzen instead, but all 13th and 14th gen K chips can be affected by degradation at stock settings bar 13600k
Intel has a finger in their bum about what the right thing to do is here
Overclockers had it figured out months ago
It's more of a side hustle for CAD for me. I'm a MechE so it's not necessary to be running sims or anything crazy all the time, I really want it to be game oriented first with a little CAD capability for when I need to do some things from home
Right my speed then lol
You could do radeon if you wanted to
But nvidia will be better long term
It's a real catch 22 for Intel. Either let the boards keep the super high power limits out of the box and let the CPUs die, or force reduced power and sacrifice performance to keep them stable, therefore handing AMD the easy W in everything.
If you can spend 1700 on MechE make it a PC that can be adaptable for your MechE imo
It's still a great gaming pc
4070 super is quite a good GPU for gaming, even at 1440p
Luckily in your niche, you sit sort of on the precipice of that 4070 Ti region of performance, where you can spend hundreds more and gain 5%
1440 is the goal for me
Common nvidia win
4070 Super is about as good as it gets until you hit 890 4080 refurbished
I spent $425 on my 6800xt refurb
4070 ti super refurb might be in the cards
😎
Otherwise you'd go 750-ish 7900xt, but it's not as adaptable to MechE
If you see yourself doing a lot of solidworks, nvidia will be a bit better
Would GRE be in the conversation at all
CAD on the other hand, is AMD bias
4070 ti refurb is 585 rn actually
Mehhhhh
I forgot about that
If you can add it to the list above, worth it
^
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700KF, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, Fractal Design North ATX Mid Tower
This is pretty minmaxed now
Part List - Intel Core i7-14700KF, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti, MagniumGear Neo Air 2 ATX Mid Tower
Just a diff mobo/case option
He specifically wants the case unfortunately
Even against a similar looking alternative?
Mmm, ig see what he thinks?
That and Wifi were the 2 restrictions
I'm willing to do other cases it's just a style im after
Ye
Have a look at it
Mobo is an interesting option aesthetically lol
It's not actual wood, it's wood lookalike
2x32 6000mhz is doable, right?
Usually, unless it's a bad board
