:3

cyan ravine
#

Damn

#

Well I definitely don't need that much

#

Wait what do you use the second pc for

#

Is it just the elgato doing codec?

#

I don't see a gpu

#

Only igpu and card

#

Get an a580

#

Run the encode through that

#

You can still use the elgato all the same

tawny violet
#

I'm probably going to move to a 500gb Gen 4 NVME for the OS and associated crap
the 1tb Gen 3 NVME for games I play the most
a 1TB SATA SSD for games I play less often/Steam/Epic/GOG library
And a 2TB HDD for bulk storage

cyan ravine
#

(I have the same one so)

cyan ravine
#

As I say to many, unless you specifically need a gen 4 for workloads

#

Or you have a cheap upgrade on the table of a few dollars worth

#

Gen 4 is pointless

tawny violet
#

That 500gb Gen 4 is cheaper than same size Gen 3s

#

for some reason

cyan ravine
#

Yea but is it good tho

#

You can have gen 4 spec but bad

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

Oh rip, itx

cyan ravine
#

But still my point stands

tawny violet
#

and it is CHEAP rn

cyan ravine
#

Eh

tawny violet
#

Are you gonna go all iCUE Link?

cyan ravine
#

Ohhhhh

#

Oh right it's a dual system

cyan ravine
tawny violet
#

ROFL

cyan ravine
#

AHHHHH

tawny violet
#

I KNEW IT

#

GET SMACKED FELIX

#

at least it's the better Corsair ecosystem

#

old Corsair iCUE was such a pile of majestic horse dung

#

oh no I mean the old Corsair iCue with the Commanders and repeaters

#

iCue Link makes things somewhat better

#

iCue still kinda bad software tho

cyan ravine
#

I hate icue lmao

#

The usb ones make it worse

#

$50 per fan for yes, better

#

But $50

tawny violet
#

You'll need like at least 3 hubs for filling everything up

cyan ravine
#

Their link aios are like $600

#

that's a whole gpu

tawny violet
#

that's a 6800 XT

cyan ravine
#

It drives me mad

#

Lmao

tawny violet
#

like straight up a 6800 XT

cyan ravine
#

It's a 4070 super

tawny violet
#

for an AIO

cyan ravine
#

For a mid performance aio at that

#

The H aios haven't really improved in years

tawny violet
#

6800 XT for me cuz currency and taxes

#

still
It's crazy

cyan ravine
#

The phantom spirit evo dual tower beats the h150i

tawny violet
#

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

#

That ain't gonna work chief

cyan ravine
#

That's arguably a lot better software wise imo

#

But my experience with unifans aren't great

tawny violet
#

iCue Link doesn't work with Lian Li Unifans last I checked

cyan ravine
#

Yeah we know

tawny violet
#

so if you have anything Corsair too

#

You're boned

cyan ravine
#

Lconnect

#

Ye

tawny violet
#

peripherals?

cyan ravine
#

Omg you won me back

#

โค๏ธ

tawny violet
#

like Corsair keebs/mice and so on?

cyan ravine
#

That's such a sigma thing to do

tawny violet
#

Wait a sec Felix

cyan ravine
#

Buy icue stuff then specifically not use it

tawny violet
#

Just wait for it

cyan ravine
#

Yeah he probably does

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

The 1000D is an exception

#

Also dominators...

tawny violet
#

Heh

cyan ravine
#

Ye but icue

tawny violet
#

I believe Corsair RAM cannot be controlled by mobo

#

only iCue

cyan ravine
#

Ik

tawny violet
#

You still need iCue installed to work with Armory Crate

#

and Lian Li does NOT work with iCue

cyan ravine
#

My unifans experience was terrible

#

Lconnect was almost as bad as icue for me

#

I had a whole lot of them too, shelved them for p12's

#

And now I don't want to go back

#

AL120's are terrible

tawny violet
#

But the plugin last I checked can only be acquired from the software itself

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

Btw @tawny violet

#

Some software now is cross compatible with icue

tawny violet
#

Oh really?

#

That is not awful I guess

cyan ravine
#

I didn't know Lconnect was but I believe it

tawny violet
#

iCue still stinky tho

cyan ravine
#

MSI does this

#

MSI you can use all corsair stuff in mystic light for example (ask my why you'd use mystic but anw)

tawny violet
#

Guess enough people pounded on the desk finally

cyan ravine
#

Also yeah windows dynamic lighting is coming

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

So wouldn't surprise me if icue is now adopting

#

Dynamic lighting will be good with time imo

tawny violet
#

ew tiktok

cyan ravine
#

I don't follow their tiktok lmao

tawny violet
#

Cringe

#

anyhow

cyan ravine
#

I just lurk their discord and watch for meme posts

#

I ain't hating on tiktok

#

Newegg tiktok store is GOATED

#

For sales

tawny violet
#

I'm still a big fan (get it?) of the P12s and P14s
Simply connect to mobo and let one RBG software do the work

Hence me not even looking for a 4090 that requires manufacturer software

cyan ravine
#

But I do enjoy seeing 3060 PC's on corsair discord with like, $400 in rgb

#

Those amuse me lmao

tawny violet
#

I'd rather have a GPU that's completely dark than needing like a bazillion RGB softwares that don't even sync together

#

-.-

obsidian wigeon
#

tiktok shop has good coupons

cyan ravine
#

I am down to 2 as well

tawny violet
#

something like an Asrock mobo and an MSI GPU not syncing makes me wanna tear my hair out

cyan ravine
#

Once WDL gets better I'll be on one

#

But I don't even really run any rgb now so it's basically one for mouse macros

tawny violet
#

every RGB has some kind of cap

#

like a single ARGB header has a max number of LEDs it can drive without SATA power being injected somewhere

#

IIRC it's like 106

#

or something like that

cyan ravine
#

What size psu have you got btw

#

That much rgb gotta be pulling like real watts lmao

#

Ye man

#

20 leds per fan isn't it

tawny violet
#

if it's not an AX1600i

#

At the very least
I'll be mad

cyan ravine
#

There are others about as good as ax1600i

tawny violet
#

ye ik but if it's like an 850 I'll legit be pissed

cyan ravine
#

He couldn't run an 850

#

Too much 5v power at 30x20 leds

#

He'd overload the minor rail lmao

#

Ah ai p

#

Good unit

#

Ye he's fine

tawny violet
#

Yeah that checks out

#

I was expecting that tier

#

Seriously if it was a run of the mill 1000w I'd have actually screamed

cyan ravine
#

I'd stick to ai p, find an expert who knows the pinout or try moddiy for custom

#

Moddiy do a lot of ones cablemod don't

tawny violet
#

to me it seems more like a showpiece first, workplace comp second

#

Nothing wrong with it just
That's how I feel about it

cyan ravine
#

I think seasonic hela is better than tx iirc

#

Hela is really good

tawny violet
#

TX is still A-tier iirc

cyan ravine
#

Ye direct ik

#

Hela better doe

#

Newer spec afaik

#

It was the first well reviewed atx 3.0 unit

tawny violet
#

ye

cyan ravine
#

Cybernetics loved it

tawny violet
#

the TX 1600 is still A-tier tbf

#

so it's like not that big a diff

cyan ravine
#

It probably is but it's worth mentioning if it's not too late to change

tawny violet
#

either will be perfectly fine

cyan ravine
#

The psu fanatics love hela

#

Since it's seasonic too the pinouts should be similar

#

Should be

#

Ye you would on 1000W lol

#

That's a lot of power

tawny violet
#

woah

#

AX1600i came out when again?

cyan ravine
#

Ages ago

#

And it's still good

#

Cos they made it properly good, and kept it that way

#

You pay a fortune but it still holds up as one of the best

#

Like a $500 unit

tawny violet
#

try more over 600

cyan ravine
#

My point

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

The 1600W units I have I got for way less lmao

cyan ravine
#

See

tawny violet
#

Yeah I'm just making a point about the AX1600i

cyan ravine
#

๐Ÿ’€

tawny violet
#

I'd have to pay 572 USD gross for one

#

448 without tax

#

27% for us

#

and we still get a 4090 cheaper than US

cyan ravine
#

About the same for me

#

But I got both mine cheap

#

1600 G2 & DA1650

#

Both around 300 usd

#

The G2 I got for like 200+shipping

#

I forgor how much, I got it from Rommy

tawny violet
#

2100 USD for a 4090 I think is pretty much on par with US

cyan ravine
#

Yeah when it's having a shortage

#

Lmao

tawny violet
#

and that is after conversion and with tax

#

2450 here as well for the Strix

cyan ravine
#

Suprim >>>> Strix

tawny violet
#

Hell yeah

cyan ravine
#

Same quality card but 1750

tawny violet
#

(Suprim X Liquid costs less than aircooled TUF here)

cyan ravine
tawny violet
#

actually
Suprim X Liquid costs the same as the aircooled Suprim X here

#

Weird flex MSI

cyan ravine
#

Yes that's normal

#

Same as everywhere

tawny violet
#

Still a weird flex

cyan ravine
#

Same staging, good quality pcb but surprim bins and strix doesn't

#

Also 1750 not 2000 or 2400 lol

#

The only thing

tawny violet
#

and you can flash the Suprim X Liquid BIOS on the Suprim X and get even more perf

cyan ravine
#

ONLY thing

#

Strix has

#

Is it's easier to evc mod

#

But most don't do this

tawny violet
#

doesn't the Suprim also have ic2

cyan ravine
#

Source: me

cyan ravine
#

Makes it dead easy

tawny violet
#

it should be straight forward

cyan ravine
#

Matrix and strix are same pcb tbf

#

Matrix is your binned strix

#

But no one would pay 3200

tawny violet
#

that price is absolutely insane

cyan ravine
#

At that price HoF is better

#

HoF you get QoL changes on top of binning

tawny violet
#

oddly enough I've not seen any HoF 4090s

#

at all here

cyan ravine
#

And proper OC software for volt control

#

They were here for a bit

#

I wouldn't pay for one tho

#

Suprim has been really good imo

#

But even more so I'd tell others to get founders

#

Do as I say not as I do lololol

tawny violet
#

yeah FE is surprisingly really good

#

if you can get it

cyan ravine
#

They do that on purpose

#

No aibs get a cut so they don't need to be made as cheap

#

Cooler master must love it tho

#

Being the oem for that cooler must be good

tawny violet
#

What up with CM?

#

Oh

cyan ravine
#

Yep that reminds me of my AL's

#

Oh god and they ramp slowly too

#

My P12's are not nearly as loud

#

At full load my pc is still dead silent

#

The only thing I hear is the psu

tawny violet
#

are P14s as good as well?

cyan ravine
#

Ye ofc

#

P14's a little louder

#

But still price/perf stonks

tawny violet
#

guess I know what fans I'll put in the d41 build

#

4 P14s should do the trick methinks

cyan ravine
#

C12c

tawny violet
#

not available here sadly

cyan ravine
#

Sadge

tawny violet
#

so the second best is P14s

cyan ravine
#

I need more thermalright fans

tawny violet
#

2 bottom 2 top, no other fans is my plan

#

yes

cyan ravine
#

Ye

tawny violet
#

That was like
The point

#

4 140s do more air for less RPM

cyan ravine
#

They do but it's not a massive difference

#

I mean you do you, not a bad choice either way

#

A 5 pack of p12 is probably cheaper I would guess

tawny violet
#

the 4 P14s cost less than 6 P12s

cyan ravine
#

Wait

#

White or black

tawny violet
#

Black ARGB

cyan ravine
#

Ehh

#

I wonder if there's better there

tawny violet
#

not really

#

no c12c at all

cyan ravine
#

The argb ones are a bit meh for value

#

Sickleflows?

tawny violet
#

and the ARGB only cost 5% more than non-RGB

cyan ravine
#

Ehhh

#

Weird country

tawny violet
#

ye we have weird crap sometimes

#

at max RPM

cyan ravine
#

CFM unfortunately is not a great way to measure

tawny violet
#

if you normalize to noise, the P12s IIRC do slightly better

cyan ravine
#

There's no standardised testing for airflow

#

So quoting a cfm often in the industry comes from anywhere

#

Whereas realworld testing proves a big difference

tawny violet
#

GN is making their own standard so you can compare the fans they tested between each other

cyan ravine
#

Iirc sl120 v2's are like...on par with qx's?

tawny violet
#

Yes
In itself also meaningless

#

At what max noise do they do it?

#

Now go ahead and lock both fans to 1000 rpm

#

and you'll see who's actually performing better

cyan ravine
#

Those are the v2's right?

#

Hm ok

#

I thonk derbauer reviewed them hold on

tawny violet
#

yeah fans vary a lot

#

you can pick and choose review parameters to favor one over another

#

being objective is hard

#

Does that matter tho when your goal is to be silent with having the best perf?

#

most people don't run their fans full tilt

#

(or at least I hope so)

#

"Facts" can be irrelevant tbh

#

Unis cost 25% more

#

P12 ARGB has lighting too

#

and doesn't need external software

#

P12 also has PWM and ARGB sharing

#

I'm speaking about the P12 PST ARGBs

cyan ravine
#

I can't believe I can't find any other website review

#

Derbaur didn't do sl v2 either

#

It was the lcd one

tawny violet
#

I'm ignoring the regular P12s rn

cyan ravine
tawny violet
#

those compete elsewhere

cyan ravine
#

Has huge comparison calls but no charts

tawny violet
#

the Unifans cost 30% more than a regular P12 for me

#

and they are not 30% more airflow/30% less noise

#

25% more than P12 ARGB

#

still not 25% more perf

#

it's just something that adds up quickly

cyan ravine
#

Finally found something

#

tawny violet
#

I mean getting 95% perf for 75% price to me is a no-brainer

#

but again, our preferences are probably vastly different

obsidian wigeon
#

there is thermalright for cheap rgb fans

tawny violet
#

I'm still not talking about the regular P12s

cyan ravine
tawny violet
obsidian wigeon
#

$16 for like 3 pack

#

with white option

tawny violet
#

Deepcool FC120 is directly linkable just like the Unifans and have about the same perf while costing much less

cyan ravine
#

That I'd give to K12's tbh

obsidian wigeon
#

btw thermalright uses same factory as noctua

#

k12's for example

tawny violet
#

Deepcool FC120-3 in 1 is 16k HUF

Unifan AL120 costs over twice as much

cyan ravine
#

K12's rival phanteks T30's, have rgb, have daisy chaining

#

And cost $12 per

tawny violet
#

and honestly having an aluminium frame is pretty pointless

tawny violet
#

but the Deepcool is also not awful (hopefully)

cyan ravine
#

P12's are good in a noise normalised situation

#

As are P14's

#

As far as max perf

#

No they fall short of a lot of fans

#

But that's where the C12C comes in

#

It does all of it for $4 a fan

#

And goes to a higher rpm range

#

I'm honestly shocked I thought more people reviewed the v2

tawny violet
#

isn't Noctuas like 25 bucks a fan?

cyan ravine
#

EK vardars btw

#

Also loud af

#

I have 9 of them

#

I wouldn't recommend

#

Personally

tawny violet
#

and Noctuas are just overpriced

cyan ravine
#

Ye but so are K12's

tawny violet
#

I mean performance is pointless if it's like a jet engine next to your head

cyan ravine
#

K12's are noctua A12x25's rebadged with thermalright rgb

#

They're t30 equivalents

#

If you're paying over $10 then it is overprice tho

tawny violet
#

Noctua fans aren't worth the money that's being asked
They aren't even the best performer anymore

cyan ravine
#

Most of these fans cost only a few $ to make

tawny violet
#

so you can't just charge for the name

cyan ravine
#

Corsair gets the pass that their fans have usb, but even with usb they are making huge profits for $50 a fan

tawny violet
#

so like

#

still overpriced

cyan ravine
#

Put it this way, if thermalright can sell the same kind of infinity mirror fans as lian li unifans for $8 a piece and only lacking the quick connect, then someone is making a lot of profit

tawny violet
#

for 50 bucks it better be the absolute best performer at no noise AND sing me a lullaby in the evening

cyan ravine
#

$8 a fan iirc

#

Comes with daisy chaining

tawny violet
#

And that reply to me (with no disrespect) screams "I'm overpaying for the sake of bragging how rich I am on forums"

#

then again

#

I've had to make the most from basically nothing for the better part of a decade

#

and still do

#

so that's what I'm rooted in

#

it's been alright thus far

#

I've managed to scrape together enough to get a competent rig

#

Maybe once I'm actually properly employed I'd have more wiggle room

#

as I already said

#

if you feel it's justified and you're happy with how it works for you

#

Then it's the right way for you

#

(Hope I didn't come off as a hater, that was not my intention)

cyan ravine
#

Finally found a good source to explain myself. Ok

tawny violet
#

I suppose I value return on investment

cyan ravine
#

AL120V2 is here

tawny violet
#

and there is a point where the return on the investment is just dying in the corner

cyan ravine
#

And if you look up all these fans you'll find all pressure and cfm ratings to be wildly different

#

AL120 V2 is a similar but slightly better performance fan than SL120 V2

tawny violet
#

I'm about to lmfao
I have to bring it back to tbe builder for repairs

#

since the mobo is cooked (bios updates are screwed)

cyan ravine
#

Shoutout to the C12C-S being identical in perf to the AL120 V2 and yet $4 a fan lol

tawny violet
#

Yeah I can't just replace it

#

If I was to lose my rig permanently for whatever reason

#

I'd be unable to replace it

#

for at least a year

tawny violet
#

I can't wait if Arctic will make an ARGB version

cyan ravine
#

It's interesting that they give it a 77cfm rating for al120 v2

#

Yet against a radiator they're meh at best

tawny violet
#

It's funny because this PC gave me so much headache that it's not even funny
And yet it's instrumental

#

and again

#

I hope Arctic just makes an ARGB version of the P12 Max

cyan ravine
#

I'm gonna double down on this video

#

AL120 claims 77CFM on the website, yet unrestricted in testing

#

67CFM

#

this is pretty much at the core of what I'm talking about

#

they can claim wild numbers but the industry has no standardised testing

#

so results can be wildly different

#

HardwareCanucks is a pretty good source at that

#

Like if you want to talk a good premium fan from Lian Li, they do make one

#

it's called the P28

#

The Lian Li P28 aims to be the best 120mm fan in the world but first it needs to beat the legendary Phanteks T30. And in many ways it does but at the same time, when it comes to airflow on radiators and for cases, there's more than just raw performance.

Lian Li P28 (Triple Pack, White) -...

โ–ถ Play video
#

me too

#

bruv I could buy 5 4090's rn if I wanted to

#

not my point

#

When I buy a fan

#

I want it to perform as good as it looks

#

these unifans, the SL's in particular, they are reputable for being "92mm fans in 120mm cages"

#

that's fine, I don't know how we got to money or whatnot

#

but my point to the discussion is cfm and mmh2o can't be trusted

#

as there's no universal testing format

#

real world testing proves if a fan is good or not

#

I do assert tho

#

don't knock a cheap fan for the price

#

Like I keep mentioning the K12

#

it's noctua levels of quality

#

without the noctua price

#

it's literally an A12x25 clone

#

1 for 1

#

anyway I don't intend to harp on too much, as I said we like to nitpick here

#

oh P12 build quality is different

#

it's definitely nothing premium feeling

#

but as far as looks and performance, you pay way less for good results

#

not to mention the loss of L connect is ultimately a benefit to a lot of people

#

yea

#

it's a good side to it tho imo

#

cheap but perfectly fine and strong

#

imo if you want a premium fan, that goes to a p28

#

the lian li p28's are actually amazing

#

and they have rgb options

#

but it's a bit difficult to coerce me to that over a k12

#

let me give you a pretty nice example of why in a sec

#

They have RGB addons

tawny violet
#

I personally like the hub RGB fans

#

where the blades and the hub all light up

cyan ravine
tawny violet
#

these frame RGB fans look kinda meh to me

cyan ravine
#

ofc not

#

but I'm a long way lost from the times of RGB all things

#

I haven't appreciated overkill rgb for many years now personally

#

So here's the comparison

#

K12

#

A12x25

#

A12x25 is noctuas best fan

#

they're both nidec clones

tawny violet
#

for the record

cyan ravine
#

imo if you want extremely good quality fans

#

that starts at K12

tawny violet
#

I'm using a single TF-12025 ARGB fan rn

cyan ravine
#

or B12 for no rgb

#

they come with braided cables

tawny violet
#

which is like bottom of the barrel stuff

cyan ravine
#

daisy chaining

#

rubber stoppers

#

they come with all the big quality ticks for "premium" but they charge $12 a piece

#

I get it tho, for you, no rgb, understandable

#

Thermalright is a very interesting brand to me

#

they even have reverse fans for $8

#

go look up the C12r

#

they're reversed C12C

#

their coolers I love too, high end performance for a budget price

tawny violet
#

I'm the type of person to buy P12 ARGBs, Phanteks ARGB strips, a D41 Mesh Screen and a basic single tower cooler for a 4090+7800X3D build

tawny violet
cyan ravine
obsidian wigeon
#

kraken being so weird

cyan ravine
#

it's more backwards than Australia

#

lmao

#

Kraken is garbage

tawny violet
obsidian wigeon
#

yeah

cyan ravine
#

Thermalright slaps kraken in the face

obsidian wigeon
#

it's utter garbage

cyan ravine
#

L Asetek garbage 8th gen

obsidian wigeon
#

idk why people still buy em

tawny violet
#

Arctic Freezer II is still pretty good

cyan ravine
#

ofc

obsidian wigeon
#

the iii is nicer

#

ii still good ofc

cyan ravine
#

at the end of the day tho I'll say something

tawny violet
#

it's funny how the 3 is hard limited to 40 decibels

cyan ravine
#

it's really down to what the buyer wants

#

it's never worth going overboard and overpassionate, and I myself find getting into it easily at times

#

because there's rarely a truly "wrong" choice

#

it's always "oh this is better"

obsidian wigeon
#

im surprised asus tops in that chart

tawny violet
#

I do wonder if you added P12 Max fans on a Freezer 3

#

how low can you go?

cyan ravine
#

private

#

lol

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

I had to switch to PC

#

youtube was crashing on mobile

#

sending me nothing but ads

I uninstalled it kekw

#

I was just trying to find a vid and I spent like 40 minutes on ADS

#

mmmm def change that aio

obsidian wigeon

that aio needs changed

cyan ravine

I'm on a loop on a 13900KS and I get close to throttle at times

thermalright has an LCD variant of their frozen edge and it's about half the price, and will be better

#

it hoses a kraken

#

no not a mount issue

#

I have a contact frame

tawny violet
#

anyhow

cyan ravine
#

remounted it 5 times

#

it had the same temps on 3 different motherboards

#

it's a cpu problem

tawny violet
#

my mentality is
-FPS first
-Temps second
-Looks third

cyan ravine
#

heat density go crazy on the 24 core intel

#

not really

#

if I can cool over 400W

tawny violet
#

if it gives more FPS I'm more likely to spend on it extra
Something that is only looks is probably a miss for me

cyan ravine
#

I'm doing well

#

intel is just a hot chip that needs as much

#

my highest average draw on this cpu is 430W

#

running 6GHz 2p 5.8GHz 8p

#

@ 1.3v

#

fit voltage is 1.28

#

I know how to use this cpu, I held the fire strike WR with it lol

#

for radeon anyway

#

it gets hot even at stock tho

#

I can play games and I will breach 90C at even 150W

#

my point is that cpu is a volcano

#

look even if you went the EK nucleus LCD it would be arguably way better

#

87C at what wattage tho

#

you can quote a temp and not a power number can mean almost anything lol

#

6GHz doing what

#

I can do 6ghz in games and also sit at 50C

#

I'm talking p95

#

cinebench

#

OCCT

#

TSE

#

lolol

tawny violet
#

Felix would the P12 ARGB be good for 16k HUF/3?

cyan ravine
#

what

#

I don't understand the question

#

if you can do that yes

#

or direct die is more reliable

#

look if you did direct die and managed to pull it off somehow with that kraken, you'd be ok

#

It's merely a suggestion

#

yeah their direct die block is garbage

#

I know 2 people that had huge issues with the coldplate flatness

#

if you do a direct die block you use the watercool pc's one

#

@bitter mason

#

care to explain how bad your ek direct die experience was

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

lol

#

(Maybe he'll answer idk)

#

it's the same issue arctic has with the LF2

#

wild coldplate flatness variance means wildly different results and terribly unreliable

obsidian wigeon
#

oof

#

another big qc oof

cyan ravine
#

but the LF2 is ok as they go cheap and have good support

#

EK on the other hand

#

that thing ain't cheap lmao

obsidian wigeon
#

ek support i heard is..

#

a nightmare

cyan ravine
#

EK support is ok

#

nah

obsidian wigeon
#

ah

cyan ravine
#

They gave me a free aio once

obsidian wigeon
#

just the price is the issue then

#

price for the variance in tolerances

cyan ravine
#

the result you get for the investment on specifically that block is usually not great

#

everyone recommends the watercool pc's one

#

for lga1700 direct die

cyan ravine
#

easily

#

FC120's are loud at IDLE

#

one of the reasons I often don't opt for an LS720

tawny violet
#

I'll see if they are available for cheaper than the P12 ARGBs

#

M25 D-RGB seems pretty good

cyan ravine
#

remember that vid I linked earlier

tawny violet
#

lemme check if it's available

cyan ravine
#

compare to C12C-s

#

that's TEC

#

I was talking about the direct die

#

just the vanilla direct die

#

The TEC is kind of a waste

tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

this one is terrible

#

does it? Oh I didn't know that

#

Very few people I know dabble with TEC cos yeah

#

as you demonstrated with the vid

#

he's pulling like 300W to keep a chip sub zero at 150W

#

throw the system overhead and the 4090 (probably) power draw on top and the UPS numbers would look like that ye

#

TEC is wildly inefficient

#

ah 3090

#

comment still holds

#

I can't tell what 3090 that is

#

igame?

#

yes but 67C is WILD

#

on TEC

#

plain direct die is only a few C better

#

take direct die out of the equation and we get to exactly why I say that kraken is a sketch idea

#

he's on a full blown loop lol

#

ehhh 420 doesn't make it a whole lot better

#

the arctic would be better

#

the problem with the Kraken is not the aio size but the coldplate

#

it's yucky asetek

#

yes but not a whole lot

#

and also

#

fin density

#

matters as much if not more

#

no?

#

not the good ones

#

most of the good ones are apaltek now

#

kraken is not one of them

#

apaltek or in-house

tawny violet

the M25 might actually be competitive in this situation methinks, but the P12s are just reliably good and cheap

My experience with this cpu is it's just disgustingly hot

#

and even lapping barely helps

#

the only real fix is direct die

obsidian wigeon

no one was forcing anything tho

cyan ravine

and I gave you like 3 other options apart from arctic

#

and again yeah, your call

#

lolol

obsidian wigeon
#

it's your money in the end

cyan ravine

I'm like this with everyone; I'll pour out a boatload of info for people to make an educated call on their pc decisions

#

I have no interest in it otherwise

cyan ravine
#

Freezer 360 do be goated tho]

obsidian wigeon
#

why'd you have to be defensive about reccommendations

cyan ravine
#

You can go to almost literally any other pc discord and you'll get the same behaviour

#

Literally any pc person is just like any car person

#

they all have their share lolol

#

Try putting your specs in Buildapc and watch the comments fly in

tawny violet
#

From where I stand

Most people coming into PC gaming are closer to my situation than yours
So having the basics nailed down without any frills is probably more productive than telling them to spend 300 bucks on RGB strips and be stuck with a 1650

cyan ravine
#

you said it yourself earlier, it's popcorn moments

#

but it's your disgression to opt in or out, again, your call lol

cyan ravine
tawny violet
#

that is totally fair

cyan ravine
#

there are plenty out there who will insist on a specific ecosystem

#

this is like

obsidian wigeon
#

i guess the 4060ti discount talk scratched something

tawny violet
#

I probably come off biased because I'm pragmatic with this

cyan ravine
#

Subaru owners vs mitubishi owners lmfao

obsidian wigeon
#

that i didn't mean to

cyan ravine
tawny violet
cyan ravine
#

everyone is entitled to their opinion

obsidian wigeon
#

right

cyan ravine
#

again, after all the discussion, if there's still justification to hold to your decision, I won't judge

#

my goal in being here is again, to pour out a load of info to help people make informed decisions

obsidian wigeon
#

some people might judge still, but it's as much as expected as just about anywhere on the internet

cyan ravine
#

it doesn't bother me if the person has been in the industry for 15 years or 15 minutes, if I have info I will say it

#

and I'm always learning as a result

#

it benefits me as much as it benefits them to speak up

#

If it still bothers you that I come across as strong minded, I apologise, but honestly, I'm like this with everyone

tawny violet
#

hey you helped me learn so much

#

I really can't hate you

obsidian wigeon
#

alright, i'm sorry if i appeared as toxic by any means

tawny violet
#

obsidian wigeon
#

because in truth, i didn't mean it

tawny violet
#

I'm gonna step out before I do something actually banworthy

cyan ravine
#

Agree, I have no intent of being toxic

obsidian wigeon
#

and if you're saying this, i like intel and nvidia a lot myself

#

but i tend to prefer the best value

cyan ravine
#

that's the main objective for most of us in here yes

obsidian wigeon
#

the reason i like amd is because they have something compelling

cyan ravine
#

price/perf and good quality

obsidian wigeon
#

if amd was as fast as nvidia and lacking core features nvidia has like they have in the past

#

i would naturally shoot for nvidia lmao

cyan ravine
#

I could really care less who makes it, as long as it's a decent package and the best price in it's group

obsidian wigeon
#

it's not a matter of fanboyism for me

cyan ravine
#

reviews well? sold

obsidian wigeon
#

but if you say, like nvidia a lot

#

there's no way i can or want to stop you

cyan ravine
#

if intel dropped battlemage tomorrow and it was better than both, I'd be a total intel simp

obsidian wigeon

cyan ravine

I gave my 2 cents

#

And objectively showed you that cfm and mmh2o are not standardised

#

I did not belittle it

obsidian wigeon
#

if you feel objective reccommendations are belitting, then have at it

#

i don't have the mind to care since it's free knowledge

cyan ravine
#

I offered my objective opinion that several other fans are good value for the money

#

when did I say unifans are bad?

#

I could've said way more

#

I only suggested the aio

obsidian wigeon
#

i'll dip and respectfully leave you be if you don't like my presence

#

this is me being as kind as i can be

bitter mason
# cyan ravine care to explain how bad your ek direct die experience was

(1) I delidded CPU, scraped off solder, cleaned, polished, etc. (2) removed Heatkiller IV Pro and replaced it with EK direct die; (3) was so excited to see how awesome it was; (4) turned on PC ran R23 with stock settings & hit throttle on multiple cores; (5) remounted EK thing thinking I messed up, same result; (6) remounted with more liquid metal than I was comfortable with but the board is lying flat so what the heck, same result; (7) I searched online & found out that the milling on early batches was bad; (8) contacted EK & (unlike my other complaints to their CS) they sent out a new cold plate & new die frame (basically like contact frame but specific to this junk); (9) removed heatkiller iv pro again, slightly better but disappointing results.

TLDR: My Heatkiller Pro IV with liquid metal on IHS & liquid metal between IHS & die perform FAR BETTER (like 8-15C depending on core) than the EK Direct Die ever did.

#

I suspect one of the main reasons is the backplate of the EK direct die is relatively weak & will flex when you tighten it enough which will, in turn, start to cause the motherboard to flex with it. The EK direct die claims it does not need strong mounting pressure to be effective but I tried really loose up to uncomfortably tight & could not get good performance (or at least better than heatkiller iv pro with IHS). For more information, see https://www.overclock.net/threads/ek-velocity-2-direct-die-problems.1804920/page-19

bitter mason
#

reading thru that OCN forum, I don't remember a single person being like omg this thing is great you're all doing it wrong somehow

cyan ravine
#

omg this post tho

bitter mason
#

heck I even tried adding washers in random places to try to make the board & backplate not flex but still get strong mounting pressure

cyan ravine
#

bro actually did the nail in the coffin test

bitter mason
#

luckily I bought a giant thing of plastic washers awhile back haha

#

didn't work tho

#

ya it's terrible. They totally blew it

#

I hate that I threw away so much $ on it

#

oh & the worst part of all for me was that the damn thing connects on the back of the board

it's SO ANNOYING to keep lifting up the board trying to attach the stupid thing

might make more sense in a case but ya

it was truly miserable

cyan ravine

wow

bitter mason

I don't get it... all they had to do was make it flat & make the die guard short enough that the coldplate could make it down to the die

at least their support is alright

the first time I contacted their support was for my 3070 block that would fill up with condensation because it had an "internal leak." They told me that I could RMA it to Estonia or whatever or I could "void my warranty leak" by taking it apart & rebuilding it

#

I voided the warranty & it continued to leak

#

then--because I'm an idiot--I got the same type block for my 3080ti AND IT DID IT AGAIN

cyan ravine

this is kinda weird listening to this, cos my alphacool block did this once
