plucky timber
#

I mean the 970 evo's a gen 3

cyan ravine
#

You're fine on power draw

#

Went to double check

#

Near p41 plat levels

plucky timber
#

oh cool

#

Thanks

cyan ravine
#

If you have throttle issues consider an lp heatsink

#

Like a gen 2 ek nvme sink

plucky timber
#

Should i get it for both ssds while I'm at it

cyan ravine
#

WRONG LINK

#

LOL

plucky timber
#

AHAHAHA

cyan ravine
#

STUPID ANDROID

#
#

Like this

plucky timber
#

Ooo

cyan ravine
#

They're good sinks, sinks will help regardless

plucky timber
#

Kinda worried about clearance

cyan ravine
#

Yeah I can't guarantee it fits

primal linden
cyan ravine
#

But it's slim af

#

So best shot imo

#

If slimmer? I mean

plucky timber
#

At that point will it do much

cyan ravine
#

Copper shims exist but I'd say those are more an interface to transfer not radiate

#

Yeah it won't

plucky timber
#

Oh well

#

We'll see

#

If it throttles I'll get one

cyan ravine
#

@primal linden how much have you bought my guy

plucky timber
#

Then if it fits I might get a second one for the 970

plucky timber
#

Tho the problem is that i might void the warranty if i remove the foam heatspreader that came with the GM7000

cyan ravine
#

Haven't bought anything?

#

Already own things?

primal linden
#

Alr bought

#

And built

#

Tryna troubleshoot rn

cyan ravine
#

What's happening

primal linden
#

My monitor says no signal after I took out the cmos battery for like 8 mins

cyan ravine
#

Ah

#

This might sound silly

#

Is the plug all the way in for the display

plucky timber
#

Yeah there isn't clearance

#

The white bit is the sticker on the ssd

#

Shame

cyan ravine
#

It's gonna be fine

#

Just a bit toasty

plucky timber
#

Yeah

cyan ravine
#

laptop.moment

plucky timber
#

There's airflow over the gen 4 so

#

Shouldn't be too bad

#

Now I have a spare 1TB ssd

#

Photo drive

#

Oem samsung so ain't worth reselling

cyan ravine
#

Send to me

plucky timber
#

Honestly doable

#

I could probably mail it when i get back to Australia

cyan ravine
#

It is ngl, you're closer to me than any of these goofs

#

(I'm jk btw)

plucky timber
#

Yeah ik

cyan ravine
#

Tho I could wipe over a drive like that and use it in a rig to sell

#

Or use it for bench drive

plucky timber
#

Yeah oem ssds are great for flips

cyan ravine
#

Somewhere along the line I lost my bench drive

plucky timber
#

Cheap ssd

#

And also passable performance

#

That gives me an idea...

#

I could swap the WD green in my 1080 build out for the 1TB ssd

#

To bump up the price

cyan ravine
#

There you go

#

Wd green is

#

Well

plucky timber
#

Ahahah do you want a WD green

cyan ravine
#

If there was a word for mid ssd that would be it

leaden mauve
#

(no)

#

(no green)

cyan ravine
#

Red where

#

If I'm colourblind does it become wd red

plucky timber
#

I bought the green to get rid of cases

#

People on the used market don't care

cyan ravine
#

šŸ’Æ

plucky timber
#

I'm gonna edit my listing to say

#

$50 more for 1TB ssd

#

I want dem money

cyan ravine
plucky timber
#

Just getting some money back from the ssd purchase

#

šŸ’ø

#

Selling computers to stretch out my budget for the holidays

cyan ravine
#

Sounds good lad (sorry for delayed reply), I've shopped with almost all of them, can only say really mwave has really soured my grapes personally. They do stuff like, 20% return fees, annoying shipping rates, long processing

#

Their warranty team went to crap in the last year or so

#

I lodged a complaint about it, they basically left me in the dark for 2 weeks with no reply

#

If it was anyone else then that person could've been 2 weeks without even knowing their incapacitated pc could be warrantied, let alone being unable to use it

#

Really rubbed me the wrong way sorry, personal rant kekw

#

But yeah try to avoid mwave or msy at the very least

plucky timber
#

At this point I don't even know which one is the efi

cyan ravine
#

Idk what that app is

plucky timber
#

Gparted

cyan ravine
#

Never used it lol

plucky timber
#

It's linux

#

Open source (and free that's the important part)

primal linden
cyan ravine
#

Post lights turning on?

#

Are you seeing a red green orange or white light

primal linden
#

None

cyan ravine
#

None, so just, no display?

#

Or rather you've never seen them?

primal linden
#

It just says no signal

primal linden
#

Fixed it tho

cyan ravine
#

Ok so if all the post lights go off then it's booting

#

Try a different display cable?

primal linden
#

Lemme try hdmi 1

cyan ravine
#

It's plugged into the gpu yeah?

primal linden
#

Yeah

cyan ravine
#

Not mobo

#

If hdmi 1 doesn't work

#

Try a different cable

primal linden
#

Is there a chance it could be the cable

cyan ravine
#

It happens a lot ngl lol

primal linden
#

Tried hdmi 1 and didn’t work

plucky timber
#

Gparted crashed

#

Thank you linux

primal linden
#

What else can I do

cyan ravine
#

New cable?

#

Can also try the motherboard port if it's got an igpu

primal linden
#

The motherboard itself or the cpu

plucky timber
#

Should i upgrade to windows 11?

cyan ravine
primal linden
#

K

#

Still no signal

cyan ravine
#

@primal linden b550 is it

primal linden
#

Yep

cyan ravine
#

Hmmm

#

Try reseat the gpu

#

Make sure the power is connected properly to it

primal linden
#

Is the gpu supposed to be able to move up a little bit when slotted in

cyan ravine
#

It will be a little flexible

#

Definitely shouldn't move much

primal linden
#

Is moving up to the cpu cooler regular

cyan ravine
#

Idk what that means

#

But that sounds like more than I would agree is ok

primal linden
#

Like if it’s flexible enough to touch the bottom of the cooler

cyan ravine
#

Idk what cooler

primal linden
#

Oh nvm

cyan ravine
#

Lmao

primal linden
#

That’s too much

cyan ravine
#

Um?

primal linden
#

Yeah it just moves up a lil bit

cyan ravine
#

A tiny bit is ok

#

Like

#

A couple degrees

#

The flex is there and it helps with cases that might be slightly off

primal linden
#

Idk what else to do

cyan ravine
#

Did it work? Have you tried yet?

#

If it didn't try another slot on the motherboard

primal linden
#

I see a slot under it

cyan ravine
#

Ye try that

#

If it's a full 16 slot it might get the display working, which could imply the top slot has problems

primal linden
#

Also does placing it in a different slot impact performance in any way

cyan ravine
#

Yes

#

Unless you have bifurcation

#

But it's just to see if we can isolate the issue

plucky timber
#

Thank you Microsoft very cool

#

I hate windows

#

Should've fixed it now

#

I swear to god if it pulls that hibernation bs again

#

I'm gonna install windows first then hijack its efi partition

#

Because Microsoft is annoying with dual boots

primal linden
#

Put it in a different slot and still no signal

#

What else can I do

#

Could it be that the ssd was installed wrong

crimson zinc
#

Alright guys, keep your pockets heavy for the ā€œAfter-Christmas-My-Kid-Didn’t-want-this-so-I’m-selling-it-for-a-stupid-cheap-price-cuz-I’m-out-of-touch-with-this-marketā€ time

#

Don't wanna waste another few TBW for a stupid bug

primal linden
#

im boutta use one of the stand-off thingies to make it higher

#

is this proper

cyan ravine
#

As long as it's flat and not bent

primal linden
#

It was a tiny bit bent

cyan ravine
#

Bent it can very easily die

primal linden
#

Could that have been the problem

cyan ravine
#

Uh

#

Maybe? I mean when bridging and power issues occur

#

The world is your oyster for problems

primal linden
#

Makes sense

#

Gonna take the cmos battery out for 10 minutes

cyan ravine
#

Hold power button for 10 seconds

#

With power plug out

#

Put battery back

#

Power plug back

#

In that order

#

Then turn it back on

primal linden
plucky timber
#

Had to resort to using dd since even just copying files over gave me an error

primal linden
#

i realized the gpu fans arent spinning

cyan ravine
cyan ravine
primal linden
#

I see

plucky timber
#

a lot of gpus don't spin up until they reach a certain temperature

cyan ravine
#

Some they won't spin until you're past the boot process

#

They should spin during post tho

#

Or rather that's typical

primal linden
#

Tried new pcie cables and still nothing

#

Is there anything else I can do

#

The pc seems functional there’s just no signal

cyan ravine
#

Sure there's no debug light it gets stuck on?

#

If not, try a displayport cable

#

Some gpus should detect the display to the right port but not always

plucky timber
#

Faulty display cable?

primal linden
#

Idk it’s a new HDMI cable

plucky timber
#

Could still be faulty

#

Try different ports and cables

primal linden
#

I’m prob gonna try display port

cyan ravine
#

Try different display cables

#

Or dp

#

Like if the post lights aren't coming on then it's making it to bios

#

i.e it's high chance it's perfectly functional

Hi everyone I am building my second pc and I’m having some trouble the the build is msi b650p, 7700x, and 32gbs of g skill, with a 2070 I’ve plugged evening in f panel connectors and all the psu cables but I do not see power getting to the mobo is there a reason for that

#

I can’t seem to figure it out

On the bottom right of the motherboard, what do you have plugged in?

#

That should be the front panel header, I think I see a fan cable plugged in there.

#

Let me check your motherboards manual thought first.

I'd say look for 12600k/kf

Also I'm assuming your partner is doing workstation tasks?

#

Hey guys

#

My cpu is running at 74°

#

Is that ok 😭

#

I just bought a second monitor and idk if this is something relating to the monitor

#

I'm not sure if I'm worried for no reason

formal girder
mossy venture
strong raft
#

PL the 12600K(F), lol. Although my 12400 staying completely under 70w for an all-core load is pretty nice. Wattage/thermals are of course largely influenced by load

mossy venture
#

The thermals will be more than fine with that aio, I doubt it'd go over 70c even multi core

#

And the 12600kf pulling more won't affect how much power the gpu can pull.

mossy venture
#

Bit over budget, gonna do a cheaper one

tawny violet
#

Yeah the 6800/6800 XT is goated with the sauce

velvet hatch
mossy venture
#

It's non xt, but understandable

primal linden
#

Can anybody help me,my pc doesn’t want to boot

#

Yesterday it showed no signal to the monitor, now it’s not turning on at all

velvet hatch
tawny violet
#

Honestly

#

The 6700XT is already kinda overkill for 1080p IMO

#

Like the worst experience so far has been CP77 RT for me

velvet hatch
tawny violet
#

And by "worst" I mean sub-75FPS 1% lows

#

RT Ultra with quality FSR has been rock-solid 45 FPS

#

Sadly my monitor has no VRR and it's got awful motion perf so I can't really get the most of it

#

But at least the card works great

vivid copper
tawny violet
#

Why KF CPU

tawny violet
#

That 10 bucks for the iGP ain't losing anything (and frankly it can be REALLY useful to have it if things go south),

#

Like the only real circumstance where I can (kind of) understand the KF is like
Overclocking for records

#

But the iGP is good for QuickSync and generally useful for troubleshooting

Is my cpu running at 74 normal?

Thanks

vivid copper
mossy venture
mossy venture
#

Yes an igpu can be useful, but not worth $40

#

Correction 25 gbp

#

So about $32

#

12400f at 115 is better value than 5600 at 120

#

But mobo also costs more and doesn't have wifi

vivid copper
# serene onyx Its a ryzen 5 7600 and its air cooled

AM5 is programed to run at the highest temperature your cooler can allow. It's made to run at max frequency not minimum temps. Your CPU wants to constantly run at 95C but since you have a non x (it's tdp is lowered compared to an x sku) and dont have enough cooling under load that will probably be normal...especially if you have a single tower cooler.

little osprey
#

As long as it’s not thermal throttling it’ll be fine for gaming.

tawny violet
#

My 7600X on an id Cooling XT-224 idles at 65 °C

#

74 under load would be highly unusual for AM5

#

But completely normal for idle

little osprey
#

I love my i5-13600K idling around 35°C.

tawny violet
#

If you have 80 °C at idle, that's a bit interesting but as long as you get the boost clocks it all works out

tawny violet
#

And I had no idea that I can just get a 12400 and squeeze in a much better monitor

#

Though at least with AM5 I'm on a socket that SHOULD have a good upgrade path

little osprey
#

Oh yeah definitely, that was something I was thinking about when building my rig.

tawny violet
#

I mean yeah, don't buy a promise and all that

little osprey
#

However with an i5-13600K and RX 7800 XT I should be fine at 1440p for a good while.

tawny violet
#

But c'mon the 7600X does about the framerates a 5800X3D would

So like

little osprey
#

I’ll be in the Army soon enough so it doesn’t matter how long my rig lasts.

tawny violet

As I was saying AM5 is a big freaking deal

It's within acceptable standards

primal linden

Ima just send separate pictures

I'd just get the cheapest 2666 jedec

fleet tendon
#

Just got a new pc, still looking for a new graphics card tho. budget is like $550 ish and theres like 3 cards in the highest part of that budget, im looking at the 3080/ti, 4070 and 7800xt what do i get

#

i have a 7800x3d with 32 gigs of 6400mhz ram as well

cyan ravine
#

What psu did you get

fleet tendon
#

750w psu, no idea if thats enough for the power hungry ass 3080 ti lol

cyan ravine
#

Can we get a specific model name of it

fleet tendon
#

sure

cyan ravine
#

Some 750w are great

fleet tendon
#

i think its a corsair 750e 80+ gold

cyan ravine
#

Rm750e?

fleet tendon
#

yes

cyan ravine
#

Ok you're sure?

fleet tendon
#

yeah i have it pulled up

cyan ravine
#

Ok good psu

fleet tendon
#

awesome

cyan ravine
#

I could recc anything that fits in that budget tbh

fleet tendon
#

i gotchu

cyan ravine
#

Used 3080 ti, 7800xt, 6800xt, 6900xt (if they're 550 or less)

#

Used 3080ti you should be able to get for about 450-550

fleet tendon
#

yeah, found some in that range on ebay

#

because the 3080 ti is stronger than the 4070, im just unsure about if the newer features and upgraded thingies are worth the difference

cyan ravine
fleet tendon
#

i gotcha

cyan ravine
#

Ngl

#

The small bit bus and underwhelming performance put them at meh value

fleet tendon
#

i gotcha

#

so 3080ti is just a way stronger card even with the last gen cuda cores, etc

#

so it being last gen doesnt rlly matter since its just a beefy card?

cyan ravine
#

And especially now with fsr3 going everywhere, 4070 doesn't offer anything but av1, which 7800xt is better with

cyan ravine
#

You save a little on power

fleet tendon
#

oh yea is av1 really necessary? i wanna stream

cyan ravine
#

But you lose a lot to perf

cyan ravine
#

Most platforms don't support it yet? But av1 is good

#

Av1 however is not worth more than like $20 imo

#

So you could just use h.265

#

On a used 3080 ti that would still look decent

fleet tendon
#

gotcha, it can't make THAT much of a difference right like ppl have been streaming on 265 for forever so it cant be that noticable

cyan ravine
#

It is noticeable

fleet tendon
#

oh ok i havent rlly looked into it

cyan ravine
#

But I wouldn't say to an extent worth more than a few $

#

Like you could really live without

fleet tendon
#

gotcha

cyan ravine
#

Most established people in content creation still use 1080p 60, for example

fleet tendon
#

yeah

cyan ravine
#

If you had to get av1, get a 7800xt

#

But like

#

6800xt is virtually the same for nearly 100 less

#

Without av1

fleet tendon
#

ok makes sense

#

i had a 7800xt ordered

#

but

#

its on backorder and has been for months i just found out

#

so i dont think im ever getting this card

cyan ravine
#

How much was it?

fleet tendon
#

its very unfortunate because it looks so sick

#

i got it for $520, it's white and has rgb fans which worked with the aesthetic i wanted

cyan ravine
#

Ah

fleet tendon
#

the asrock steel legend oc

cyan ravine
#

Sounds like steel legend

#

Yep

fleet tendon
#

yep

cyan ravine
#

Lol

fleet tendon
#

are those ever gonna

#

ya know

#

be made

#

so i can have it

#

pls

cyan ravine
#

Where did you order from?

fleet tendon
#

newegg

cyan ravine
#

Link?

fleet tendon
#

yea one sec

cyan ravine
#

Interesting....no price on pcpp

#

I'm curious now

fleet tendon
#

yeah theres no link anymore

#

the card is taken town

#

down

cyan ravine
#

Would be objectively the better choice

fleet tendon
#

yeah, that's the one i was considering if i still went 7800xt

cyan ravine
#

I see

#

Not really worth tho

fleet tendon
#

yeah I don't play the craziest games atm

cyan ravine
#

100 less for 6800xt pg (same perf)

#

For your needs too

#

I'd do used 3080ti tbh

fleet tendon
#

gotcha

cyan ravine
#

Try and get like

fleet tendon
#

i use lots of adobe stuff so i mainly needed the beefy processor

cyan ravine
#

Gigabyte vision and then (must) use a support bracket

fleet tendon
#

and games a lot just not the most demanding stuff

#

oh ok

#

i mean

cyan ravine
fleet tendon
#

i wanted to vertically mount

#

good to know

cyan ravine
#

Ah vertical is fine

fleet tendon
#

yeah 3080 ti is heavy lol

cyan ravine
#

Gigabyte has an issue with pcb cracking, but vision is cheap for white on the used market

#

Avoid strix

#

Expensive for no reason other than strix

fleet tendon
#

Lmao alright

cyan ravine
#

I don't think... there's any other white cards
...

#

Uh

fleet tendon
#

i mean

#

i could always spray paint the shell

cyan ravine
#

Could also get any old 3080 ti and paint it

fleet tendon
#

yeah

cyan ravine
#

Lol

#

We keep doing that

fleet tendon
#

genius

#

ig

cyan ravine
fleet tendon
#

lol

cyan ravine
#

So yeah 3080ti would be good

#

Used, aim for 450

fleet tendon
#

lemme check the ones on ebay rq ill lyk what i find

cyan ravine
#

Try r/hardwareswap

#

Since you'll be vert mounting you can get a vision card without worrying about the pcb cracking issue

fleet tendon
#

okay

cyan ravine
#

So cheaper side white card

looking for a monitor for my buddy, as he thinks there is a catch to this being 180hz and cheaper than 144hz versions.

I have an AOC monitor and I love em, I have the 24 inch curved that I got for $100 but they are now $200.

The specs he is looking for in a monitor are: no less than 27 inch, IPS, 1080p, no less than 144hz. price of around $150 US$, and Known brands.

forgot the question, does this one look bad?

vivid copper

speed

#

gen 4 fast gen 5 really fast

mossy venture
#

Panel is a bit better

mossy venture
#

For downloads you'll be internet limiting on a sata ssd

#

Only time you'll notice it is slightly faster boot times and load times, which past a certain point you won't notice that either (gen 4), and transferring from one ssd to another

wide blaze
#

so I only need gen 4?

vivid copper
# wide blaze whats the dif between gen 4 and 5

depending on your workload the usefulness of this speed can vary...for gaming it usually doesn't matter yet because PC games aren't coded to take advantage of such speeds yet....but other applications it can and does make a difference in your workload....people tend to say it doesn't matter when they mean it doesn't matter TO THEM....everyone is not the same

mossy venture
#

Gen 4 isn't needed, but gen 5 is just stupid

cyan ravine
#

Gen 5 has basically zero benefit for a gaming build anyway

mossy venture
cyan ravine
#

Let alone even sata to nvme

mossy venture
#

"If you are gaming"

#

You're mad for no reason

cyan ravine
#

TIL T500 exists, that was a good suggestion @vivid copper

mossy venture
#

T500 is gen 4, but around $100-110 it's solid

#

Not sure about the 1tb

cyan ravine
#

Windows install matters as much as the drive it's on

cyan ravine
#

Just go with the suggestions for the best value perf at your price point

#

And for 4tb, not a lot of options

#

So UD90 is fine

mossy venture
#

Unless you're spending $2000 on a build, don't spend over $100 on a 2tb ssd

mossy venture
#

Even until you're in 4090 territory

#

Unless you're among the few who benefits from gen 5 speeds or if you need more than 2tb

cyan ravine
#

100 you really hit near the top anyway

#

Adata ps5 premium stonks

mossy venture
#

Adata premium is s tier, among the best gen 4 drives at $100

cyan ravine
#

At that point beyond it the perf is a slippery slope

cosmic sparrow
mossy venture
#

I'd at least spend $5 more for the rm750, white cables are very nice with the white build

#

For monitor one sec

#

Could also do a white 7900xt for $800

cosmic sparrow
#

As long as the case is white I couldn’t care less

#

Plan on putting a decal on it

mossy venture
#

Oh then xtx at $960 is great value, but you'd want a 240hz 1440p monitor

Or 7900xt for cheaper than that 4070 ti

Black cables look off in a fully white build

Black and white build its less weird

cyan ravine

Or you could buy a $20 extension kit

Would suggest posting 1440p or 4k to avoid cpu bottlenecks plaguing the tests

vital magnet
#

ah, my biggest thing has been deciding between amd and intel

mossy venture
#

Brand doesn't matter, performance does

cyan ravine
mossy venture
#

7800x3d and 7600 are best value

#

For gaming

cyan ravine
#

But for your needs amd is good

mossy venture
#

13600kf and 14700k (and variants) are great value for workstation

cyan ravine
#

In a blind test you basically would have no idea which is which

#

It's all running the same OS, end of the day

mossy venture
vital magnet
mossy venture
#

Better mobo (more m.2s/io mainly), better cooler though it doesn't make a diff on 7800x3d, better psu so more upgradability

cyan ravine
#

But nothing worth 2 cents of thought really

vivid copper
# cyan ravine Would suggest posting 1440p or 4k to avoid cpu bottlenecks plaguing the tests

The only GPU that even remotely has a bottleneck at 1080p is the 4090....1440p and 4K show less scaling. HU has a pretty good testing methodology. They always test with the fastest CPU available at the time....and remember this isn't absolute frames it's releative to show scale....me and you can run 50 different test on the same hardware and get different results.

mossy venture
#

HUH

cyan ravine
mossy venture
#

And 4080

cyan ravine
#

So idk who told you that

#

And 4080 yes

#

7900XT barely skates by with like a 13900K/7800x3d

mossy venture
#

Just because it's not a major bottleneck doesn't mean it's not there, and especially when paying attention to 1% lows it's a pretty big factor

vivid copper
mossy venture
#

To purely get an idea of performance between gpus, 4k is much more accurate

vivid copper
#

not at all as not all GPUs are even powerful enough for 4K

mossy venture
#

Yes?

#

Well with low amounts of vram that's fair

vivid copper
#

and if someone isn't playing at 4K that bears no weight on their decision

mossy venture
#

But for 12gb+, 4k is much more accurate

mossy venture
cyan ravine
mossy venture
#

And for a performance comparison between gpus eliminating as many outside factors, including cpu bottleneck, is the ideal

With the psu out of the way, we could consider a new graphics card but FIRST

#

Before the gpu

#

If you can return the ram and swap it

You'd save almost $100

mossy lion

Ok done PSU bought

cyan ravine

The rest is asking a lot

plucky timber
