Has 7 fans in case
I wasted so much time trying to get exact details on this build but it’s like very custom… idk it’s weird
Also Lenovo is starting to make GPU’s I think the 4080
Idc about brands for my custom build so much. I just want min/max all parts. Will definitely be OC’n
Oops… sleep deprived. I just saw the b part haha
My family bought me this as a gift before college
People are telling me they got scammed
Because the 4000s series laptop are coming out
looks not too bad considering it's a 16 inch
yes the 4000 series laptops are about to come out so that'll make that laptop make a lot less sense but in the current market, not bad
strix will be strix price tho tbf, you're going to pay a little premium for that extra quality
^
Hello
So, I tested my recently bought gpu (2060) on my friends PC bc I haven't built mine yet.
Video works fine, furmark no thermal throttling whatsoever and the games had no stuttering. The thing is, there was no sound, we thought It was the headset but my friend replaced the gpu and then the headset worked just fine
Is there anything wrong with my card or perhaps is a config issue or smth like that
So am I going to have to buy a new psu? @rugged anvil
dunno, ask your question here though. i don't know much about psu's
It’s not loud
someone else here should be able to guide you though on your unit
Ok
Lemme get a link to it rq
It’s this
I got it about a year ago
For like 65$
@wanton tundra just kinda a general list, not really optimized for example
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/xKMG4s
Part List - Intel Core i7-13700K, GeForce RTX 4080, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
You can prob fit in 13600k 4090
Would a 13600k 4090 be a noticeable difference in cpu performance?
Yes, for gaming
CPU wise, 13600k will do fine for gaming, but for other tasks, it'll be a noticeable difference in CPU performance, but the upgrade from 4080 to 4090 is a decently significant upgrade in GPU performance
This or with 4090 https://pcpartpicker.com/list/WT3zcb
Part List - Intel Core i5-13600KF, Radeon RX 7900 XTX, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
reference is loud
also asrock z690 pg riptide has flashback and cheaper
better vrm
that flare x ddr5 can be samsung too
imo spending $30 for an aib XTX is extremely worth it
Samsung is fine unless you're buying it specifically for overclocking really
Works pretty well with AMD chips as a side note, just like D4 B-die
imo I would put $10 in for a pair of sticks that have the potential to run much better for a good few more years than a pair of samsungs that mostly cap at 6000/6400
hynix m continues to get faster, KP boards are up to 7400 with it
@dim forge probably the pc switch to hdmi audio on the gpu
You just have to set the default output audio again
On the windows sound mixer
tyvm
Do all am5s still take 1 min to post? Did they fix that or is it some mobos
Or all boots? From Guru3d:
"The first time you startup the PC the BIOS will do memory training; this can take a few minutes. Once you move the BIOS to EXPO mode (the optimal SPD timings) and restart, it'll train again. Once trained you're looking at POST times of less than 30 seconds, which is still too much IMHO. Stability-wise we had no issues, but of course, since AMD provided these kits, they've been extensively tested for compatibility. This isn't any criticism by the way; for both Intel and AMD, with the start of a new architecture, it's racing against the clock to get memory kits compatible at a firmware level." Can we confirm ?
I have switched from RTL to AM5 in my new build because of 3d series chip support, but this is discouraging
Bios was upgraded on am5 long ago
Now only first boot take that long
Also switching form rpl to am5 is a severe waste of money, at least to me
Haven't bought it yet
Rtl is inefficient unless you underpower it to like 70 watts plus is a dead platform
I did switch. I switched my build plan
Hey guys, what’s that incredibly OC’ed-to-the-max GPU company overseas that is the secret best of the best?
Most are Chinese. Evga is the last us one I know of
For example people brag about the strix
Maybe he is talking about the hall of fame cards
But there’s one overseas that has some crazy $3000-$4000-$5000 GPUs that are OCed to HEAVEN
do you guys know what I’m saying?
Really curious now
It’s kind of like googling a song without the lyrics
The googling shall commence
But I had a conversation about them about a year ago with the pros of this server
HoF 4090 as an example
Wait
Google it ceraso
I remember seeing an AIRCRAFT CARRIER sized GPU that was distinctively $1000 overpriced
KINGPIN
that rings a bell too!!!
And colored white
Kingpin was the evga counterpart of the hall of fame
Kinda, yes
just to add
the extra power consumption of raptor lake cpus won't even make much impact on power bills
unless you plan to pair it with something like 4090 lol
and run it 24/7
under constant full load
besides sure, it is going to be dead end platform- but i wouldn't buy into promises either
amd is promising future upgrades, yet look at their past shenanigans
300 series am4 boards almost lost support for 5000 series cpus
cause amd decided to cut it off, breaking their promise in the name of profit
big companies aren't to be trusted, what matters is get what's best for your budget, use case at the time and worry about the future later once you do need to upgrade
im not saying intel is better than amd, they can still be scummy cause yes, they're not a charity
hof
well the product series is hof
Anyone know the cheapest 3050 or 3060 gaming laptop on market is rn?
imagine how power efficient they would be
Neither
You can get a z board for less and that's just inherently better because it's a z board
Try gigabyte b660m aorus pro AX
That's about as premium of a board I'd go with that cpu
i would instead go with z690 pg riptide if wifi isn't a need
Honestly that then a 12600KF if it's cheap enough with a dual tower
yep
have 3.9 rates in newegg
My PC is too powerful 😂😂. It broke the TV at work
How hot is too hot for GPU hotspot/memory junction?
Mine sits around 90-95C for both under full load
That's fine
110 is too hot
Depends on the memory type g6x is rated for 110c and g6 for 100c iirc but imo under 95c is fine
Although ofc cooler the better
PC's running smoothly, funny part is now i can see like alot of pixels on my mw2
my system doesnt support resizeable bar.. sadge
@fossil cedar ik its not your field
But I gotta deal with my ps4 slim now
Any idea why it can only run like 40 fps
Is the hard drive full
i knew close to nothing about consoles ngl
Yeah thought so
last console i owned was the wii
W
What game is it? Some newer ones are targeted at the PS4 Pro and the older ones don't run as well
Fortnite warzone any battle royale game any story game ark
Ark is no surprise tbh
My friend had a blackout through the night I guess, when he woke up his pc wouldnt power on. he was able to get it to power on with 1 ram stick he reset the cmos and put all the ram back in. the computer is on all lights are on RGB and everything. but his monitors are not displaying. his keyboard and mouse also arent getting power
When's the last time it was cleaned?
Apperently normal according to my mom and playable
4 months ago when we replaced the harddisk
update it boots and lets him in with 1 out of 4 ram sticks.....
Try that one stick on the other slots to see if it's the sticks or the channel that died
Btw it's not steady
Drops to 30 and 20
so far 1,3 work. 2 didnt. he is testing 4 now...
4 works too..... is it possible to get a bad slot but the channel is still ok?
Yes that's possible
Usually from physical damage, which a short circuit could qualify as
are all AM4 processors the same?
he has a spare motherboard he was looking to upgrade down the road but he has a r5 2600 currently. the motherboard is a b550 msi tomahawk.
also can you use 3 ram slots or will that slow it down?
Yeah any AM4 processor should work on any AM4 board in theory. Double check the compatibility lists if it's a B350 board or something, it would probably need a bios update or 3.
its a b550
3 slots is fine, the way that works is 2 of the sticks run in dual channel mode and the third runs in single channel
yeah but Ive heard running dual channels messes with the memory controller or something. he had 4 sticks in so I didnt know if 3 sticks would slow the memory controller down anymore
Dual channel is faster
I checked the compatibility list for the B550 Tomahawk and it doesn't support 2000 series chips
oof. alright, ill break the news to him. he may just be stuck with 3 sticks of ram for a bit.
australian electricity seems to suck. this is the 4th PC issue they both have had after a blackout. they lost a gpu to it and a power supply
I recommend a UPS to fix that long term issue
Recommended, will clean up dirty power, protect from intermittent power loss, and can send a shutdown signal when the battery is low. https://www.amazon.com.au/CyberPower-Systems-Value-800EI-Interactive/dp/B077HWMJZ2/
Thanks dyno
i should get a ups at some point
or just stick to laptops
at least with laptops
worse case scenario i drop to 30fps
with no ups
save data go boom
Get a laptop that does USB C charging, a massive USB C battery bank with passthrough, and a UPS. All the battery.
The advantage of that setup is the PC doesn't know it's on battery power and runs full tilt
but cars don't usually have 100w usb pd charging
so like
i can charge it off a car but not game off it
what if you just keep hooking batteries up to it
infinite power
Asking for 8A from a 12V outlet is a bit much lol
Exactly, when the UPS runs out of power the battery bank still runs and you can just change the UPS with zero interruption
there should be a new usb standard that allows me to power an entire gaming pc with usb
or more efficient gpus
1kW USB PD wen
at that point i would worry about wire gauges
imagine causing a house fire with your 1kw usb charger
Imagine how giant that charger would be. Basically the size of an ATX power supply.

At least sff
should just be built into the wall at that point
the thing i like about usb pd tho
i can just bring my small pd brick with me
instead of bringing the massive asus brick every time i want to charge my laptop
I bent my 5v 3p (only one pin), I was able to unbend it but I don't think it works anymore
rgb cpu fan doesnt read it anymore
for some reason somtimes my monitor flashes like a white bar only on my main monitor not my second and i have reinstalled driver could it be the monitor
i think i fixed it
nvm
Huh
@potent portal what's the command for the ddu info
DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) Guide by Pato
https://github.com/NeweggTechie/Graphics-cards/wiki/How-to-use-DDU
does anyone have any video recs on cable management basics? about to build my second pc and want to do it right this time
It is time
when building my pc ive heard ppl say you dont need to pick an operating system but have been confused on why
like on pc part picker
I AINT PAYING 2.5K FOR A FRIGGIN ROG 6950 WHEN I COULD JUST GET A 4080
windows 10/11 is freeware, you don't really need to pay for a key
obviously linux is free, and hackintoshes are only possible if you already bought a mac
so when building my pc on pc part picker i dont need to buy windows 10?
nah i just need somethin for games lol
CPU: i5 6600k
GPU: Geforce GTX 1070
RAM: 16gb
Motherboard: ASUS Pro Series ITX w/wifi
Storage: 250gb Samsung SSD and a 500gb WD Black HDD
OS: Windows 10
PSU: XFX 850w
Case: Thermaltake V100
For 500 cad is this a good deal or no?
Cpu Ryzen 3100 (wraith spire cooler)
GPU Msi Ventus 1660 Super
Ram 16GB Spectrix D60G
500GB crucial ssd
550Watt psu
4 Corsair fans with rgb controller that works with Icue software or this for 650?
@potent portal where's felix
Idk his name now
also my audio stopped working on my pc plugs after I changed everything
my mic is still working via usb and I plugged my headset into that but it's not working on my front ports nor my back ports
So, what exactly is that 4 pin cable next to the 8 pin cpu? I do not think my PSU came with a 4 pin cable.
Oh nvm, the cpu power cable can split to be a 4 pin. I feel dum.
The extra 4 pin is optional, intended for extreme overclockers
idk why my audio not working bruh
mic working fine
and headphones plugged into my mic working fine falcie
normally my headphones show up as realtek speakers
or something like that
Felix is Fish Flakes right now btw
Can I use the CPU power cable as a PCIE power cable?
no
Only if you like fire
not only the connector is different (cant physically plug it into the wrong socket) but the voltage on the pins are different
Oh ok, thank you so much.
have a friend that recently built his pc, cpu has been running way too hot at roughly 90-94C
what are troubleshooting steps/potential causes?
What CPU and cooler?
r5 5600x, and he is using an stock cooler that came with r7 3700x
was my old one I never ended up using
That's pretty normal for a stock cooler
oh dang fr??
It needs a high airflow environment to even keep it at stock performance
falcie
that's not normal for a stock cooler on 5600x at all
85 or so was the highest I hit on stock 5600x
with only 2 fans aside from cpu fan
Best step I can suggest is a $20 tower cooler
94 def seems high, thought that is when cpus can get damaged or start to effect performance
Yeah it's a tad high but nowhere near dangerous
Platform thermal limits are very far from anything that could cause permanent damage
ahh okay, he told me sometimes games would crash and he'd notice temps got high, you think he should just get a basic tower cooler or AIO setup
got any recommendations?
whatr are expected temps with that ?
Probably closer to the 60s, maybe 70s if it's a hot room
It'll be a lot quieter too
dope for sure, thanks
Alternative if they don't like RGB also https://pcpartpicker.com/product/q6H7YJ/thermalright-assassin-x-120-refined-se-6617-cfm-cpu-cooler-ax120-se-d3
i think this is a bad cooler mount or bad paste application more than insufficient cooler
since thermal throttle point is at 90C
94C and crashing indicates a catastrophic failure, not just "slightly higher than 90C"
a cooler upgrade would still be beneficial
but i am pretty sure the prism is mounted incorrectly
^
$20 was always worth it to me, even if only for sanity thnx to low noise vs some stock coolers. What's funny is price I paid in 08 for early direct heatpipe tech.
08 💀
How do the coolers perform in today's standards
probably not very good now
They're not as bad as you think but modern processors tend to give off more heat and in a denser area, which the old coolers don't expect
Hey i have a question about m.2 storage when i install into motherboard one m.2 storage i can add second m.2 storage in the future please answear me
If there's a slot for a second one sure, and if the chipset is happy to accept a second one without issues
Some boards have limited chipset lanes so they disable other stuff (normally sata) to make the extra m.2 slot work
You can definitely fit 2 on that one
You have 2* M.2 slots
There's also pcie slots for even more m.2's
because i have now a 256gb storage but i can i want have it only for windows and i want buy a 1tb m.2 storage for games programs ...
and i don't know if there can be any problems
(Stupid specs page is formatted weird and looked like it had 3 for a minute)
That'll be perfectly fine
Just pop in the new drive and open disk management, select GPT, then right click the drive and create new simple volume. Just hit next through the prompts.
okey if i'm going to have any problems i will write here
Beacuse it going to be my first pc build
Having a strange issue. I noticed my hard drive wasn’t being detected so I took out my PSU made sure everything was connected etc etc
I put it back in
Now whenever I try to start it up, I see the lights on my GPU connectors light up for a split second, the front fans start up for a second, I hear a click noise then it all shuts off
But for some reason the RGB on my ram works and stays on
Double check all connections
On PSU and Mobo I assume?
Sounds like Cpu most importantly but really just do all of them
Anyone is losing their mind thinking that 08 cooler isn't just still on my E8400, lol. The 2013 one is on a 3770 & recently repasted. Heatpipes lose efficiency over time.
guys, did the 13100 have any big gains from 12100?
Not really iirc
hmm so the "big" jump is from 12400 to 13600 isnt it
The raptor lake parts start at 600 iirc ye
12400 to 13400 is a big jump but not for games
Basically a 12600k in a new box
13100 is literally just a 5% overclocked 12100, same core count and architecture. So it might be worth it if it's only 5% more money.
13600k btw the non k isn't afaik
Yep
@cyan ravine I got my new gpu cpu and psu in
everything working good tho when I played some games they stuttered at first but I figure it's just cause it was my first time running them
Can do
Stuttering now?
Sometimes the first run the pc is just caching everything so it stutters a bit ye
Yep building that texture optimizing cache can take a bit, some games do it before you run it the first time and it just looks like a really long load screen.
yeah It seems to be fine now
also felix for some reason
my headphones aren't showing up after changing everything
and Ik the headphones are fine themselves cause when I plug them into my mic they work
I'm wondering if maybe I didn't plug something in for the front ports
Likely
also my cpu fan doesn't have rgb for some reason
There's a hd audio plug
Hmm not sure then
it's in the bottom left on my mobo
Did you install the HD audio drivers
I updated drivers
From the motherboard support page?
lemme try that
Best AMD AM4 B450 ATX motherboard, Turbo M.2, Extended heatsink, USB 3.2 Gen 2, Mystic Light, MSI MAG
Yeah this one https://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/mb/realtek_audio_R.zip
bruh
Didn't know which OS you had
he waited like 20s lol
So downloading games seem to spike my CPU temps more than actually playing the game. Is that normal?
I already started it
Yes because he probably just remembered the detail after the fact
ok I need the win 10 one lol
And most likely this anyway
It's realtek
most likely?
The installer is out of windows xp
Downloading/installing at high speeds is pretty CPU intensive so yes probably
Games, especially at 1440p+, aren't as CPU intensive
Oh ok, seemed weird when my cpu was spiking to 80 C when downloading, but 60 C when actually just playing games.
falcie they still not showing up
Yep, remember that it's not just copying data off a server, it's getting a compressed file, extracting it, and writing the uncompressed data while verifying it all at the same time
It's not in the Windows audio settings as an output device?
nope
not in device manager either
maybe I need to turn my pc off and just make sure the hdaudio is all the way in
a screenshot could help
of what
to see your audio devices on the device manager
It's there in device manager
are you talking about the speakers that mine says?
cause that's my mic
I have my mic in 7.1 surround set to that
so I can have sound still
the hidef audio device is my monitor
cause it's defaulting to that
which options do you have on your sound mixer?
yes that's the input falcie
Surround screws with sound inputs up down left and right
to me it sounds like your blacksharks are faulty
No it won't be the blacksharks
working when plugged into my mic
The surround software is known to have issues
ok lemme try that
Which blacksharks are these McFlurry?
Ah yeah
those are 3.5mm i think
yes
If I'm not mistaken, those have issues with surround due to not being usb
weird that they just started if that's the case but we'll see
I used to lurk the razer forums, I have a lot of experience in this matter
I'd suggest dolby surround instead
i have the krakens and they work just fine
No disable razer surround
however these are usb
bruh ok
The sound driver persists even with the app closed
ok uninstalled
Control panel > sounds and hardware > sounds > input and output, right click razer surround and disable both
The v2 x working in the mic port both input and output is correct
?
That shows it works as intended with surround out of the picture
Some front panel jack ports also don't have the poles to support dual channel audio
I don't think that's the issue
So it's one of two things
7.1 isn't showing in the sound thing so it's gone
Well yeah it likely could be, if you don't have the hardware in the audio jack to support it, then it won't play sound
says my realtek speakers aren't plugged in tho
um
they were working until yesterday so
and I didn't switch mobos
Then it can be realtek failing to install properly
Another issue which sometimes even fixes itself by attempting a reinstall of the driver 50 times
That issue plagued my X570S aero G
Go for it
ok
It's extremely iffy that it works properly on some boards
also
would my headphones not still show up at least on their own as a device?
regardless of realtek working?
It won't show the name of the headphones, just the name of the audio device (realtek)
No way to know if they're my headphones then really?
There's test sounds you can play on each audio device in the audio control panel
Not from looking at it no
3.5mm doesn't have a means to identify the headphones
Except that it'll be something something realtek
ok
nothing still
realtek is showing up
not in selection for audio just in device manager
also something else to note
my back ports aren't working with the headphones either
could that mean it's just something not plugged in properly on my mobo @cyan ravine ?
Nope
or would that make it so my headphones wouldn't work even plugged into the mic?
It's dodgy like that
all cause I switched to amd :\
This is realtek not AMD
I joke
This is just the usual onboard audio problem, Intel that uses Realtek has the same issues
I heard a tiny bit of static when I plugged into the backport on my pc bruh
thought it worked for a sec
The static also realtek
Totally sounding like a realtek issue rn
Surround not part of the problem anymore
Would suggest dolby surround btw, it's better
I don't even bother trying to get onboard working any more, I just use USB DAC
Agreed
I didn't get USB headphones lmao
Didn't think it'd be this stupid
The black sharks are good for the price too :/
It's not the headphones tho
Yea
Super flaky even when you do get it working, might just stop randomly because it decided it doesn't like your new desktop background
If it works fine in the mic jack it's realtek being a goof
But USB headphones wouldn't have this issue would they or would they still
Usb wouldn't
No that would use another driver completely
But again so would other mobo audio codecs wouldn't have the issue either
Should I plug the headphone splitter into the mic jack or just the single cord itself into the mic jack
Splitter doesn't do anything afaik
It just sends a high pitched noise through the speakers
Splitter just divides up the poles
Wha
Again, the realtek installer is super iffy
Mic is supposed to be input, not output
felix make sense for me
"supposed to be"
Interesting, I haven't messed with it in a long time
mine doesn't have a green plug but Ik which one because of the static and the realtek app
Really depends how many poles are in each jack
and plug the headphone or the mic in or either one into the green plug/line in
or just the cord without the splitter ig
lr?
Splitter won't do jack
Kekw
I specifically remember trying to get someone to work a splitter with this exact headset and it resulted in a loud high pitched scream
The choice is yours if you're game
so
Left/Right (stereo)
I plugged just the cord into the jack in the back
There's 5 jacks but ok
the one that would be the green technically
I can try all 5 lol
theres 6 including the red one also
for me
once again there's only a red the rest are just black but yes
nothing showing up
not for mic or headphones
does this mean it's guaranteed the realtek drivers then?
cause if so I'ma just deal with it tomorrow
It's highly likely
I hate hearing the static as if it's working when I plug into the port
on the back
stupid
My monitor kidnda flicks a white line sometimes and i dont know why
i tried ddu
still the same thing
Usb should definitely not have this problem
Try a different display cabke?
if you have the audio console installed correctly, it should prompt you to choose what you plugged in on the back
Yes, if correct
unless you've got notifications turned off
Realtek plays the lottery on install
yeah, it kinda does
To the point of madness sometimes
it do be like that sometimes
yeah i think its the display cable because my second monitor works on hdmi
no white lines
its not like bad but sometime it gets annoying
I started getting a harsh full screen flicker that would sometimes reset my window layout while gaming, super annoying
my sister is looking for a laptop because he old one is broke she does like fabric designing kind of stuff so she wants a good about of space she said 1tb would be good so is this a good computer for the price?
thats what she picked out
not a 1650 lol
1650 for 1k is way too much money
ok
If she’s got a 1k budget, you can get a pretty decent laptop for that
For design apps you'll want something that's color accurate primarily
ok
1k has something good for that
Understandable
It's fine, there's good windows laptops too
other one she picked out:
https://www.microcenter.com/product/661866/asus-tuf-fa507rm-es73-156-gaming-laptop-computer-gray
Micro Center
all these choices doesn't have great screens with high color accuracy
ok
You can add extra ssd space easily so don't feel confined to 1tb laptops
ok
If not add then an external ssd which is affordable
i don't have time to look right now, but will try once im back
Try looking up the TUF FA507RM
thank you!
ok
3060
ok
also do include the exact model in there, that one is ES73
ok
so this?
Well too bad they don't like Mac because used M1 pro would actually be a good option
they just dont like that they arent compatible with alot of stuff im not sure though??
idk why they dont like macs
and they can also just use bootcamp
Much better
Try find it with a lower Hz screen
ok
how
Actually what you found is pretty good tbh
ok
They have a 144hz option
is the display on it good?
Windows has Arm version available now, does that work I wonder?
meh
not very well
emulation tanks perf
it's still more than usable but it's definitely a significant drop compared to running macos
Wait did M$ really just put x64 Windows into a translation layer
can i have a link please i cant find it
yes
That can't be what they did that's so lazy
it's literally that
omfg
im sad they stopped selling windows 10 home and pro yesterday
job done
Only from the M$ official site
yeah fair
Retailers and OEM resellers still have a lot of supply
sd 845 is officially supported on win on arm but it's horrible as you can probably tell
mobile soc from 2018 lol
You know what I'm having trouble finding it too tbh
ok
1079 is a good price for the laptop you linked
It'll be very close to it yeah
ok
6800H is a beautiful cpu
should i tell her to buy it?
What's the total budget?
i think 1k
Hm
Are you anywhere near a microcenter?
nope
Darn
https://www.microcenter.com/product/661866/asus-tuf-fa507rm-es73-156-gaming-laptop-computer-gray? Same one there a little cheaper
ok
You can buy a 500gb ssd and upgrade it for like $30 anyway
ok
Team mp33 or silicon power a55
nitro 5 smol batt
54 wh
This one @torpid sorrel
Then get a team mp33 512gb/silicon power 512gb/external 512gb ssd for cheap
ok
30 over budget for something like, 2-3x better than what you showed us is a good improvement imo

How's the color accuracy though? I see 100% DCI-P3 but nothing beyond that
Oh wait someone tested it: 99.8% sRGB, 84.0% AdobeRGB, 97.4% DCI-P3
It's alright
Yeah that's acceptable
Like I wouldn't say highest end
But it's good
That's if my 144hz panel is any way similar
Too bad laptop display calibration is limited to software
ok
Good 1440p or 4K card ye
What thin fans do y'all recommend for a water cooking system? Wanting white or RGB
Wouldn't recommend thin at all if you can avoid it
Significant performance drop when you make the fan thinner
With regular fans they don't fit inside my case with the GPU
I plan to rotate it so that those fans are actually intake...
P12 slim, ez
But I can't do that if the fans are external
So they fit if they're on the outside?
Or, well any of these 3 but P12 slim is cheapest
What fans are you using there
ID-cooling stock fans that came with the aio
But I plan to switch over to custom loop.
I plan to do a 280mm, a 240mm, and a GPU water block as well
What parts?
I see what looks like a radeon RDNA2, 6650xt?
Board seems rather low end, 5600?
I7-9900K and a XFX Speedster QICK 6650XT tho I plan on getting a 6700XT
What board is that???
ASRock h370M-HDV
I do plan on replacing that as well....few fan headers, few USB headers, no ARGB headers
It was cheap and was next day delivery so I went with it
That vrm....oof
I have OC set to auto
Yeah like, don't at all push the chip on that board
It's got a 4 stage vrm
Likely 2+1+1
Doublers
That is like, 90W max territory
Hell maybe even 3+1?

That's gonna gonna get HOT
Def stay well away from PL2
90W max is my recommendation
For the GPU, I have a much cheaper suggestion if you don't mind the look
Deshroud, zip ties, T30's
Will make the pc very quiet
You can then use p12 slims on the aio
The pc will be very quiet
Like, watercooling is good to make the system quiet, but you need a far better bpard for that chip to run it in a scenario where water cooling will benefit it
As far as gaming goes it's likely not kneecapped at all even at the lower power since it's a 6650xt
Deshrouding and fan modding the GPU, and using slim fans on the aio with a power cap would be what I'd do, unless you can find a Z board or better vrm matx
Imo not really worth that unless cheap
I'm honestly thinking of saying F it, and going 10th or 11th grn
*gen
Especially with the 1151 motherboard prices
Tbh a 9900K sells ridiculously high for it's age
You'd be better off with a 12400F and an matx board
I'm glad I'm reusing my old one
Sell the 9900K, get a 12400F
You'll be doing better overall
There's a lot of good matx options too for lga1700
Selling 9900k on eBay would get me a 10th gen and a board
12400 > 10900k in games
I mean granted, it's a 6650xt
But fwiw a 12400f is very good value
You could run that under an aio with slim fans easily
Do that and then just deshroud the gpu
You'll get a dead quiet system without spending a bunch on a block (prolly bykski if I had to guess) for a gpu that doesn't really need it
Part List - Intel Core i7-10700K, Radeon RX 6700 XT, BitFenix Prodigy M 2022 MicroATX Mini Tower
You're gonna have a bigger problem with an lf2
The rad is very thick
Much thicker than normal aio sizes
It's an extra 10mm thick even
Lf2?
So you'd need the slimline fan just to break even on the overall profile
I see an id cooling?
Wait...give me a sec
Ahhh...I edited an old list
Part List - Intel Core i7-10700K, Radeon RX 6700 XT, BitFenix Prodigy M 2022 MicroATX Mini Tower
There
For cheaper than that you could have a better gaming chip that runs less hot
Multicore I believe they're not far apart too
If you change to a 6700XT...I still say deshroud
T30's are the cheap fix vs hundreds for water where you'll have equivalent improvements
Yeah
And less power usage, which in turn means less heat
I'm not paying the power bill, my work is 😎
Still, less power use means you can also get a cheaper motherboard without worrying about burning a hole in it
Well the mobo will cost a little more tbh
Like there's a risk of in your current setup
But $160 cpu vs $288
Then 120 mobo vs 99
One would need a better, worse fitting aio, the other could use a stock cpu cooler lol
The $120 B660s are sold through, next best is the $150 B760 PG https://pcpartpicker.com/product/tGmmP6/asrock-b760m-pg-riptide-micro-atx-lga1700-motherboard-b760m-pg-riptide
Still cheaper
Oh yeah def
B760m prolly even better too
Don't even need to get more memory but you could with the savings
Part List - Intel Core i5-12600K, Radeon RX 6700 XT, BitFenix Prodigy M 2022 MicroATX Mini Tower
Better built?
I almost wanna go Ryzen. The only reason I went Intel was I already had a i7 9700k on hand
You'll need to upgrade to Windows 11 if you haven't already but that's simple enough
I'll need to?
If you do 12600k yes
Why need?
Scheduler
The thread scheduler for the e-cores
Honestly I'm used to w11 now
tbh you don't have to activate
I still hate the menu but you can apparently change the menu
I'm using w11 at home on my....$4-5000 pc
M$ just wants you to think you have to activate
But they really couldn't care less about home users since they make up a VERY small portion of their licensing sales, business getting the $4000 a month server licenses are where they make money.
5800X isn't worth it, either do the 5700X for the same performance or the 5800X3D which competes with the 12700k (and often wins)
Will the board support the CPU out of the box if I buy it new?
That board has flashback so it doesn't matter, you can flash without a CPU
👍
And if I change board/CPU I can finally run Bluetooth!
And run my ram higher than 2133mhz
Keep in mind the 5800X3D doesn't care what speed your memory is because of it's massive cache but the 5700X is heavily affected. 3600 is optimal.
If you're near a microcenter btw https://www.microcenter.com/product/5006039/amd-ryzen-7-5800x,-asus-b550-f-rog-strix-gaming-wifi-ii,-cpu-motherboard-combo
I'm 400 miles away
I believe I got 4000mhz cl14 for like $90. Was on sale.
That's nice memory but you'll need to manually set the speed to 3800 and fclk to 1900 for optimal performance. Ryzen 5000 usually tops out there without decoupling fclk. If you go faster and it tries to stay synced, you might get hardware errors (WHEA) and if it desyncs then you get a massive latency penalty.
.....OMG! Thanks for that information
That might've just helped me fix my brothers pc
He keeps getting a WHEA error code
We're gonna have to try that in the morning
Maybe set it to 3200mhz and 1600 fclk. His are rated for 3600mhz. Gonna try to go down
3600 should be doable on any Ryzen 3000-5000, try manually setting SoC voltage to 1.15V
Should be right below CPU core voltage
We'll give it a try
I've been trying to get him to join here so he can give more information, but he is adamantly against it cause he thinks y'all will just say "buy new part" without actually trying to diagnose or fix
Can't blame him for that since a lot of communities would do that. Especially Reddit.
I swear Reddit is the Internet’s limit
you’ll find smart people and a whole lot of dumb people at the same place
reddit is only worth going for hws listings
asking for tech advice there gets mixed results
some even pc breaking mistakes
or intentional trolls
I think it’s great for solving tech issues. example: instead googling “pc won’t turn on”, type “pc won’t turn on reddit”
I had audio issues on my laptop. couldn’t find a solution until I did that
true
just gotta dish out the trolls
they're fairly obvious tho
and are usually deleted in most cases
r/shortcuts for example
I always see people making a Shortcut in the “Shortcuts” tab asking whether it’ll automate
there’s an “Automation” tab as soon as you open the app
literally looks like this as soon as you open the app and they don’t go to the Automations tab before asking
Got my fans inside
Can anyone confirm the Intel 255 LAN controllers on the new AM5/1700 boards have been fixed with the new fw update? I just read a review that said otherwise...
Not like am5 is really relevant yet anyway
this man trying to start a war
I'm not wrong
lmao
except 7000x3d has the potential to best most of intels metrics at this time
but the execution is to be seen
i decided against 1700 for this exact reason although i had a 13900k in mind
but why buy a processor that is guaranteed within 2% of the competition when the competition can surpass it many fold over
A 3600 Ryzen is more mainstream rn
it's a pretty easy bet
That's not what mainstream means...
But ok
Mainstream means that it's actively being used by a good percentage
I don't even think the 7000x3d is out yet. As such it CANT be mainstream
It's as mainstream as the new Titan RTX card
seems like a nonargument
idk, my point was on potential. of course something unreleased will be irrelevant to the mainstream
Nvm
X3D isn't out yet
Also don't count the chickens before they hatch, they're starting with the 2 CCD chips, which they say works but we could well have performance issues (Like W11 performance which still isn't fixed)
7800X3D will definitely be quick though
SilverStone Technology SX1000 Platinum, 80 Plus Platinum 1000W Fully Modular SFX-L Power Supply, SX1000-LPT-X V1.1 https://a.co/d/7TATfXK
Since its launch in 2015, the SFX-L form factor has garnered popular recognition and support among enthusiasts with its larger 120mm fan able to achieve better balance of power and quietness in small form factor PCs than what was possible with standard SFX. And as a leader in power supply miniatu...
This any good?
Wanting to switch to a Sff psu for my meshlicious build and I can’t find the Loki from a reputable buyer
V850 SFX gold from cooler master is very good
Unless you need even more power
What specs is this build?
agreed. curious if they use software like Intel traditionally has. could be a big no no
Cmos batteries are just watch batteries right?
Would I be able to buy a matching battery and swap ‘em?
potential being the key word
and the 7800x3d not even out til april 💀
Asking for a friend. He said his cmos battery is a cr2032 so he should just be able to buy another cr2032 coin battery and swap em. Yes?
anyone here able to help me with a cpu issue?
i don't know if it's normal for my cpu to fluctuate speed like all the way down to 1.57 in idle
i've never seen it do this, usually stays constant around 4.4
Yep any 2032 battery will do
Totally normal, it's a power saving mode
i see, should I run 3dmark just in case though?
If you want
If you set windows to high performance power mode it won't drop the speed but will use more power
Well after asking him to explain the issue I don’t think it is cmos.
When he goes to power the pc on a blue light flashes next to one of the smaller pcie slots. It will not boot at all he has tried different ram placements and clearing the cmos.
The board is a b150 msi gaming m3.
I can’t find anything about what that light means and it’s not listed on ez debug
B150 is pretty old and the battery probably needs to be replaced anyway if it hasn't been before
Alright. They recently replaced the power supply because it would power on but any strain on the graphics card it would power off. Then it was solid for a few months and then they had a blackout and both their computers started having issues.
Replacing cmos battery didn't work sadly.... what else could I try
Can someone walk @wispy wind through how to update his bios? He has one from 2015 last installed
Was he the one with the B150 Gaming M3?
If so latest version from 2018: https://download.msi.com/bos_exe/mb/7978vBC.zip
How-to: https://storage-asset.msi.com/files/pdf/How_to_flash_the_BIOS.pdf

Hello, I am going on a airplane tomorrow and I was wondering if you guys could give me some tips of how to travel with my M.2 drives and GPU.
I am thinking of putting them in my backpack and maybe wrapping them in bubble wrap.
any way works
as long as you discharge yourself before handling, everything will be fine
I only have normal bubble wrap.
Anyways to discharge the bubble wrap? Felt like it had static.
