Just fluid
Was gonna use Amazon/Newegg but I can't find clear. They have dyed but not clear
e
What I would like to know is I have a case that has space for a 360 AIO/Radiator in the front, is it practical or economical as far as cooling to put it in the front since I already have an AIO on the top of my case?
Or should I get a different card without the water cooling/hybrid cooler style?
that one isn't worth it
not xtxh
not for 1300
one sec
these ones are faster than the one you linked @little osprey and also $500 cheaper
these are XTXH so they're unlocked to run faster than that XTX toxic
@cyan ravine Ok, ya I found one at amazon for like $900 of the one I linked, I am asking about that one because of the hybrid style of cooler. I am willing to look at the two you sent, but do you think it will make a difference between the two you sent and one with the liquid hybrid cooler?
yes, because these two have plenty beefy air coolers already, so you'll have no problem pushing them further than the limits of the XTX versions (Like the liquid hybrid one you linked)
they're binned higher as xtx-h
Also Memory C has lost its mind if it thinks someone has any plans to buy at that price
grab it at newegg for 799
it's not worth spending 100 more over a normal 6900 xt just to go amazon
otherwise the cheapest 6900XT would be worth doing
Ok, thanks, I appreciate it. My 2060 just doesn't do it for me with MSFS kickin its butt every time I fly, so I figured, why not go big, right 🙂
that seems fair
I agree with kicking it up, also, what psu do you have?
It's wise to get a psu a with a good 200-300W more generally if you go for such a power hungry card
I just got an X3D
Think I will get the Power Color one 🙂 Mainly because it comes with an anti sag bracket
Thanks Felix
np
I can get the first, I have none of the second
so my comp started crashing when im running stuff on both of my monitors
if i have a game running on one and youtube on the other
never happened to me before
any idea why that might be?
does it BSOD or just turn off?
it crashes the graphics card
So your computer is still running, but you have no video?
yup
What is your g/c?
6700 XT
Ok, so I am going to ask stupid questions, nothing against you, but go with it please
Have you cleaned it recently? Is it dirty?
Yup dusted and cleaned
Have you tried to monitor temps when you do this?
you said the card was cleaned, did this start before or after the last cleaning?
Before
850
I’ve been running the comp for 5 months with this setup and been fine
It’s like the past two weeks something happens
Happened*
Ok, so you have a large enough PSU, obviously.
You said this started before you cleaned the card, so it is probably not a physical connection issue (i.e. card seated, power cables fully connected)
Card has been cleaned so its not choked
Temps are fine
When you update drivers, do you do the automatic update, or do you use DDU and wipe and do a fresh install?
DDU always
What's your cpu and gpu? Also exact psu brand and model would give a better idea on identifying the problem
And the 80+ rating as well
try just a factory reset in adrenaline, sometimes DDU can mess with AMD drivers a bit
it's not like Nvidia where DDU is the cleanest and most reliable method always unfortunately
RMA the card I started having that issue with my 6900xt when I had it and it was an issue with the vbios
Here is a SN850X with heatsink dismantled
damn
I can say I don't think they wanted ssd to come out
The bent stuff on left was me with my teeth
Oh my kenzie why....
I did kinda
But this ssd was stuck on
@paper summit @vague oracle stop asking why....just don't do what I did 👍
But yea youtube had many removal ssds but I don't thunk this was was
Lmao
This is a lie
so... does it work?
Dead
Isnt that ssd brand new 😭
yes
yeah, but what caused it to be dead though? like I get he ripped the heatsink off... with his teeth.. but I'm wondering what it was that broke on the board itself.
I'm just imagining some croods style scene of one of the cavemen looking at the ssd wondering what it is then tearing into it with their teeth. xD
probably sinked a razor blade or a screwrdiver between heatsink and pcb and shrooooommm ripped half pcb and/or an ic
at least i think that's the most probable scenario
feel bad for the nvme tho
orrrr he drooled all over it.
That's not a cheap nvme either is it?
XD
I saw that haha
ah, so the PCB itself got messed up.
Haha
Poor nand chip
Hey is anyone in here particularly knowledgeable about case fan pins and motherboard header compatibility?
That does somewhat. My main question was can a 3 pin argb go into a 4 pin header and will it retain the argb function?
no
they have different voltages and pin layout
they are not interchangeable
look at the picture, the left side
only power for the fans are interchangeable, both 3 and 4 pin headers work
but argb and rgb headers are NOT interchangeable
Reason: Bad word usage
it will retain orange rgb function for approximately 0.1 seconds as it burns
hahaha
they have different operating voltages
Well, looks like I’ll be returning some things lol
if you feed 12V into something expecting 5V you're probably not going to have a good time
2 of the argb fans I bought are 4 pin and were shown compatible when I was building out the pc. Ordered some extra to replace the stock fans and I guess I didn’t read the specs right because I’m looking at them right now and they clearly say 3pin
uhhh
if it's 4-pin it's not argb
sounds like false advertising
argb refers to 3-pin 5V standard only
the most suspicious thing i've done
was take a 4-pin RGB male to male adapter
cut off 1 pin
guide yourself with the number of wires on the cable if in doubt
and stick it in a 3-pin ARGB female connector
3 or 4 wires
it worked
🤦🏼♂️ after all my research I’m now questioning everything I did
it was a weird argb controller that had an ARGB female output instead of ARGB male as expected
contacted their support and they said you'll need a male to male pin thing to use it with anything else
i only had 4-pin male to male adapters
so i just... cut off 1 pin from each side
these things
this is what i needed
not the first one who made a mistake, nor the last... heck if someone tells you that they never made a mistake... they are lying
👀
all for some thermal pads

sad to hear that you got a lower binned card as replacemnt 😦
it's still decent, i can't complain
but the card i broke was like
golden sample
i got 22136 on that card with just some preliminary testing
new card hasn't been able to do better than 21881
in time spy
f
argb header
look for one in your mobo
but first to be sure
3 or 4 wires on the cable?
it's 100% an argb cable
then yes, to the G DV connector
the 4th hole is filled in to prevent plugging into 12v rgb
If my friend wanted to get their own pc would it be irresponsible of me to tell her to use used parts if it will be a way better deal?
no
it would be irresponsible of you to let him get used parts without a lot of research first
you can get some pretty good deals if you know where to look
but you need to have a good eye and good knowledge about the parts you are about to buy
appearances can be deceiving
Yeah I told them to do some research on parts and recommend some. She said a friend recommended NZXT and I felt that might be a little overpriced.
it is
but brand recommendation is irresponsible as well

all brands have good units and bad units
Ah ok np.
if im trying to run 1440p 144fps consistent in a large amount of games what type of pc would i want?
for reference heres what i have now: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/82cVbK
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 5 3600, Radeon RX 6700 XT, Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower
i know my pc is decent and i dont need to upgrade but i want to so
preferably under 2k?? no clue how it is these days so
you're not getting anywhere near 1440p 144fps?
on like overwatch yeah
ok
but any graphically intense games i barely scrape 1080 100fps
i put it together two years ago when i was really stupid so i probably did something wrong idk
actually the list isn't bad tbh
if you are able to, I'd definitely wait for upcoming releases in the next couple months
since the pc is definitely very capable, and you'd get quite a bit more from waiting
idek why i got that i just thought itd be cool
a lot of stuff was added later
not sure how its not getting to 144fps on 1440p though
you could do this for now
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BPwNzf
PC Builder - AMD Ryzen 5 5600
then wait for new gpu's
are you running the games on ultra graphics?
yeah
oh yeah that's why then
shouldve specified
and get a new psu when new gpu's drop
my b
eh, i don't get 144fps in most games on a very similar pc on high 1080p
you're gonna wanna turn em down a bit to get to higher fps lol
but it's super capable as felix said
😢
but the point is i dont want to 😔
the main game is rdr2 ngl so it makes sense
oh ic yeah
it's capable but all games 144fps? You'd want something on tier with a 6900xt or better for that
true
hence me saying
.
.
upcoming gen is spicy
how many months would you guess until itd be smart to buy?
as soon as next month is a possibility
damn i was expecting like half a year aight thats nice
you also have potentially big price drops coming with the mining proof of stake coming
like, less than 24 hours away
wait are they doing that? like fr now?
apparently so yeah
ye, it wouldn't surprise me to see used 3080s for $350-450 and possibly even lower
but that also might mean selling your 6700xt will not give a large profit margin
i remember doing a school project like 2 years ago about why proof of stake is better
proof of stake is a good direction
but iirc that kinda just makes it actual currency
i hope it explodes WHILE theyre in the farms my bad
it's switching to pow
it's pos atm
yeah i haven't been paying attention to crypto clearly
I get them confused all the time
only reason i remember rn is i saw a screen shot sips posted earlier
no
idrc how its switching as long as prices go down 😭
proof of stake is the model where you can't just freely mine

ree
but yeah you could drop in an upgrade on that board to a 5600 and some more ram
or even 5800X3D with a new cooler
that chip is projected to be somewhat similar in games to Zen 4 (7600X at least)
im willing to spend i just dont know whats good anymore
are amd gpus getting better
ofc
or is nvidia the way to go or what
nvm it's down to $6.74
im less rich
whichever is the best price-performance
well make the decision when they release
current gen is a toss up, next gen we'll have to wait and see
brand or camp doesn't truly matter if it's a gaming build
no need to decide now
is there a daaaaate or not yet
just q4 2022?
40 series is supposed to be super power hungry, but I do have a small hope that they're going to have two different versions of each gpu
it's very soon
there's going to be two different 4080s one for efficiency one for performance
a week left?
I'm hoping they have two different ones for each card
either 18th or 22nd iirc
welp i guess ill come back in a few weeks then?
money isnt really an issue but obvs the less the better
yea that would be good
without sacrificing performance
3090 ti has the new 12pin also.
it's worth waiting for just about everything rn really
man every time i come here someone says that 😭
ABS Gladiator PCs sometimes has some good deals.
pfft
sounds good
in my experience with amd gpus tho
i built my new iphone therefore it belongs in build chat
iffy
Needs more lenses
needs more googly eyes
Oh g0d, it's an AMD user.
Someone call the green police. ||just joking||
eh idk
question
a lot of people say that but my nvidia drivers break half the time I touch anything
without a way of testing it for a month or two
no
also, consider b660m pg riptide or mortar max if you want more oomph and bang for buck
it's been said 13th gen may not work with bclk oc tho
idc about bclk oc, I'm likely going to go for 13600k, so z690 would be nice to be able to oc
such a good price
it's a good board
Those iphone pics looking like spider eyes are disturbing. 🤣
that's worth it
then z690-p is same price too on warehouse
who the seller tho
both used good
do i do it

that's what innovation looks like
i think it's straight from the MSI store too
mmmm
i think I'll hold off. Ocing isn't something i 100% need, would just be nice to have. I'm sure there will be more good warehouse deals closer to when I'm buying
i saw tomahawk wifi z690 for $160 earlier too
you did this with the 3080 too I feel like you will look back on this later
there's tons of other lga 1700 mobos for good prices on warehouse rn, I don't think it's a one time thing
nah that was ravell
nah, I'm content with 3060 ti for now
my next upgrade will likely be 50 series
I've been waiting for cpu+mobo to build for like 6 months
keeping gpu, ram and storage, have everything else but cpu and mb
tbh I'm gonna be surprised if I see z790 ddr4
not really any point improving last gen any more than now unless I guess some brands had copium speeds
I'd honestly be surprised if DDR4 boards are still being produced by the time 50 series comes out. Amazed if they still exist come 60 series.
buddy may buy my gigabyte b660 mobo off of me. think for my next mobo i'm gonna grab an asus mobo, most likely a b660 as i don't think i need anything more or less. any suggestions? i have an i7-12700f and a 3080 12gb
they've been confirmed iirc
if you need wifi, b660m-a wifi or mag mortar. If not, mag bazooka
that asrock submission to the whatever thing I remember yeah
don't need wifi, have ethernet. any asus suggestions as both of the ones you suggested were msi :D
there really aren't many good price/perf asus boards, I'd highly suggest against buying based off of brand. i guess this? https://pcpartpicker.com/product/J9Fbt6/asus-prime-z690-p-d4-atx-lga1700-motherboard-prime-z690-p-d4
@high yew
thanks!
Got it, thank you.
@rugged anvil nice basic setup. What stands out to me though is your leg warmer. That's a good idea:P
yeah man, i definitely didn't take it off google images 😳
Hey all. I'm very new to the whole custom PC world and have a very limited idea of what I'm looking at. Wheres the best place to get help on what I should be looking into? I've done some google research as far as processor, video card, etc.
Use https://pcpartpicker.com/ to build us a list of what you've found. Then link it here with what you are wanting to do with your PC and what your budget is. Then we can really get into what will be the best parts for ya to look at.
👀
Well already off the bat I'm not exactly sure what I should be looking at on that sight. I'm wanting to build a PC that can easily handle photoshop and adobe lighroom and also do some moderate gaming (new releases and things like Skyrim with some nice graphics mods set up)
start with your budget and your country 🙂
how much you are willing to spend on a build like that
USA and up to $2000 (would definitely like to keep it under that if possible)
sounds like a 12700k ddr5 3080ti angle
though photoshop would be happy if you waited for 13700k
photoshop loves single core perf
next i think not sure
G0d the wait is gonna kill me....
i'm chilling
I wanna do my RTX 4090 + 13900K/KS so bad.
my i3-12100 holds up surprisingly well against a 3090
Seriously?!
the magic of ram overclocking
Damn.
reduce cpu bottleneck from 50% to 10% 👍
even at resolutions below 1080p it keeps up pretty well
at 1440p the cpu bottleneck is basically 0
dlss @ 1440p
Ahh ok.
1440p display 835p render
RT enabled or no?
12100 works great with rt on or off
rt on should be increasing the cpu bottleneck
but it's not bad
Ahh nice.
After experiencing RT, it's hard for me to go back.
I always enable it when possible.
worst case i see like a 20% bottleneck in cyberpunk at 835p with psycho rt
Is liquid cooling worth it? I'm looking for something quiet
liquid cooling isn't always quieter than air cooling
liquid cooling still has to use fans after all
Hm. Well I'm running a 2011 Sonyu VAIO laptop that damn near sounds like a jet engine
You could get like an AIO and put on large low RPM fans to lower the noise.
any desktop is going to sound quiet compared to an 11 year old laptop
Lol
Should I not really worry about what fan i get then?
Also how much of a difference is there between the i5 12600k and the i7 12700k?
meh
a little bit higher clock speed
a little bit better in photoshop
you'd be best off waiting for 13th gen
Will I really be able to tell the difference?
How long till the 13th gen comes out?
Should be a month from now.
"should", not guaranteeing it.
Doesn't that mean the price is going to be astronomical?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/d3mKk9 here's something you could do now though
PC Builder - Intel Core i7-12700K, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
Not really unless you're outside the U.S that is.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2mmKk9 could go down to 12600K and add a 2tb ssd
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12600K, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
Can a 750 watt really handle that?
i ran a 3080 and a 3070 at full load at the same time on 650w
🙂
.....
with a 12700k?
I think you won the silicon lottery on boith.
So what makes the 13th gen worth the wait vs whats currently out?
nah
the 3070 was a great bin
the 3080 was probably the worst 3080 in the world
ended up getting rid of it for a 3090 because i hated it so much
🙂
better single core and multicore as 13th gen has double the E-cores compared to 12th gen..
How?
could barely OC at all
Ahh I see.
traded it to a guy who doesn't OC
Should I bother OCing my 3070 again?
I had it reach 2,050mhz Core Clock + I think 300mhz memory clock when I last did it.
i can choose between 3090ti performance at 3090ti power draw or 3090 performance at 3070 power draw
no brainer to me
nice.
my 3080 could only do uhhh 1935mhz core clock and +435 on the memory
my 3070 could do 2220mhz core clock and +1250 on the memory
In my next build I plan to get a 1200-1500 watt ATX 3.0 psu for future proofing.
Nice.
felt a little bad selling such a platinum sample 3070 to someone i knew was going to mine on it
but gotta get rid of my spare hardware before moving any way i can
At least they'll get good use of it.
What kind of deals you got? DM me bb xD
lol I have almost nothing left
just a 4770k test bench with no gpu is left
and I move tomorrow morning
dang. and here I am with a bag of money that sits on a stool next to my PC chair.
You could give me that money and I give you my XBOX ONE S.
ha
Lmao.
I feel like this 4770k rig isn't worth shipping
idk what a 4770k is
oh
it's a full pc minus case
I got plenty of cases
rate my setup lol
I'm just not gonna reply anymore to this convo lest someone misconstrude it as me trying to buy something from you.
Nasty. (jk).
However.. Check them DMs xD
there is a slight lack of cable management holes
Someone once told me that its beneficial to have 2 forms of storage. He said he had is system files on a SSD and then everything else on a HDD. This make any sense?
You coulda just zip tied it all into one large cable.
only if you need cheap mass storage
and don't care if it's slow
i don't have any hard drives in my build
My builds are all pure M.2 storage.
IS THAT CARDBOARD?
.....
my gf at the time had to come with me to fight off all the women i was getting with that cardboard box pc
i was using it to test a used graphics card before buying
there is a 512gb ssd in that cardboard box
Your screwing with me right?...
yes
she did come with me
but she just sat there and watched

she did not have to do any fighting
she was pretty small she would probably not win many fights
Damn, you shoulda said "no" that way we can let Barney Stinson add this to his "Play Book".
5'0" 90 lbs
so was this poking fun at the newish guy? 😛
oh
you're misunderstanding
ssds are also storage
you don't need a hard drive to have storage
i just store everything on ssds
so SSD's arent considered hard drives?
nope
I know what SSD stands for, but don't remember what the extra H stands for in HDD.
SSDs are Solid State Drives.
Hard Disk Drives well put simply literally scratches a disk for storage.
gotcha. thought hard drive was just a term for all storage devices. good to know! thanks!
hard drives are slower, more power hungry, less resilient, but tend to last longer
their main benefit is being cheaper per gb if you really need to store like 18tb of photos
ssds are hundreds of times faster
Well I do have 2 external hard drives for photos...
you have a pretty high budget, so you can afford to run full ssds if you don't have massive storage needs
there you go then
don't bother putting a hard drive in your pc
just use the externals for mass storage
Hmmm, how much does an 8tb SSD normally cost?
i use my pc for gaming and dev work, neither of which has insane storage demands
I might get a couple.
forget about 8tb ssd with your budget
unless you want to cripple the rest of your system to hell
cripple?
?
I have a 5,000+ dollar budget.
I am a different guy man....
Your thinking of Konig.
oh sorry apex, didnt realize i should be wearing my moncole with this conversation 😛
But yeah.
So 8tb SSD is usually around $700?
how much ssd storage do you need?
you'd be better off grabbing 4tb mp34s @ $350
the $700 8tb ssd is sata
I can chew through 3TB pretty easily, plus extra if I wish to keep videos from recording on hand.
So is 1tb good enough for what most people would need for games or what ever?
cheapest 8tb nvme is $1038
1-2 is kinda the standard today.
For normal use with games getting as big as they are.
really depends
you can be an esports gamer and get away with 128gb
average gamers would want like 1tb
1tb ssd very cheap now anyways
how much would a 4tb NVMe cost?
.
I've seen 4tb M.2 SSDs cost $400.
my budget z690 has 4 nvme slots
I'm getting too old to care about most games these days. So not gonna play a whole lot. Mostly minecraft and bejewled. Maybe some SimCity2000...
that would be 16tb of fast nvme storage already
1tb should be fine then.
(was a joke) 😛
you mentioned photoshop and lightroom
Yeah
video editing does take up a fair bit of storage
photoshop docs can get pretty large too
i linked you two part lists already
I've been going off the 1st one you sent
one of them has 12700K + 1tb gen 4, one of them has 12600K + 1tb gen 4 + 2tb gen 3
1hr of footage in 1080p let alone 4k which I plan to record in once I get my 4090 takes 30GB of space per hour of footage.
having your video editing projects on ssds helps a lot
just scrolling through the video timeline
you will notice a difference between hdd and ssd
huge difference
Will PCIe 4.0 M.2 SSDs work on PCIe 5.0 motherboards?
so depending on how much video editing you do it could even be worth downgrading the gpu to buy more ssd storage
yes
even 3.0 will continue to work
Yeah I had my HDD replaced with a SSD in this laptop about 5 years ago and theres a massive difference. Was gonna stick with SSD but wasnt sure if it was really worth it to have a massive HDD inteneral
i have a 3.0 ssd working on a 5.0 enabled mobo
Got it.
you could have an hdd to store projects you are no longer actively working on
but you mentioned having external already
Will take a peak around for some 4tb 4.0 SSDs later and a 5.0 once those come out for my boot drive.
4tb 4.0 ssds sounds painful for even a $5000 build budget
Gonna get a 2tb 5.0 first and some 4tb ones later.
Video editing not so much as large photos. Also what do you mean downgrading the gpu for more ssd?
I already got another 2tb M.2s I can stick in my mobo for mass storage until I get the 4tb ones.
looking at around $500 for 4tb gen 4
wouldn't be surprised if the first 2tb 5.0 drives land around there as well
Sounds like what I've been looking at.
I found for $494
since you have a $2000 budget cap
if you wanted to add even more storage something else would have to downgrade
the mp34 is an m.2 ssd
Oh I got ya
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2mmKk9 this one has 3tb ssd storage without making significant compromises
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12600K, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
I have an mp34. I like it mucho
you could downgrade from ddr5 to ddr4 and/or 3080ti to 3080 to squeeze out some more storage if it was really needed
I like my ddr4, but I'm planning on going for ddr5 soon.
Is Sata III SSDs the equivalent of a PCie 4.0 M.2 SSD?
not exactly equivelant
sata 3 is much slower than gen 3 nvme
the best sata 3 drives are around 1/6 of the speed of gen 3 nvme
Nvm thend.
1/12 of the speed of gen 4 nvme
The cheapest 4.0 M.2 SSD i'ved found at 4TB will cost me more then 2x2TB 4.0 M.2 SSDs.
yeah
so it depends on how much ssd storage you need
2tb is the sweet spot for price to capacity
but m.2 slots are limited
so if you truly need 32-40tb of nvme storage you have to buy 8tb drives
For me, 3 is doable so long as I delete my footage afterwards but if I intend to keep them then around 8tb is the sweet spot (assuming, 4k footage isn't like 6x bigger then 1080p footage).
I guess for price to storage/performance I will just get a mobo with 4-5 M.2 slots and get lower capacity M.2 SSDs.
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/RJPLfv using the 12900ks as a 13900k standin and the 3090ti as a 4090 standin
PC Builder - Intel Core i9-12900KS, GeForce RTX 3090 Ti
can't guess the price of the 4090 yet
Since I'll be sticking with SSD I don't need any internal bays, do I?
nope
m.2 ssds slot directly into the motherboard
no drive bays used
most cases will have some sata ssd mounts anyways
and some hdd mounts that you can also put sata ssds in
And a blu ray/dvd writer is a 5.25, right?
Typically yes
or is that something I should look at getting externally?
You can get internal if you want but personally I'd go external for convenience, and that way case selection isn't limited to only ones that have 5.25 bays
Im not wanting a fancy case with lights and windows myself. The only thing I'm concerned about is USB ports and compatability
it's not necessarily about lights and windows
the best airflow cases now all don't have 5.25" bays
Still need good airflow for liquid cooling?
grats on the lvl up
Yes since you need air to cool the liquid
Maybe I should just use a cardboard box 😛
the liquid in liquid cooling doesn't actually cool the processor
Sips gets chicks with his
it just moves the heat to be cooled by air somewhere else
You can unironically do this
👀
Lol yeah oragne mushroom was demonstrating theirs \
Spreading it out in the process yes
it is more practical to have a large 360mm radiator mounted to your case than hanging off of the cpu
that's basically all the liquid cooling is for lol
Speaking of, my LFII 420 is coming in a couple hours
oh nice.
AIO or rad for open loop?
Nice.
So then is liquid cooling really worth it?
That depends on how much heat you're trying to move
Really depends on the use case.
How do I know when its worth it and when its not?
mostly depends on your cpu
Do you want best performance or best noise? You need to sacrifice one for the other.
In my case I wanted at least a 360 for my 5800X, since that's one of the hottest modern chips. I got the 420 because I can lol.
I'm building my list and I'll share it but want to make sure I'm not getting things I dont need
For example, if you want a good balance of performance and lower noise a 420mm AIO is good.
balance of performance isn't exactly 420mm aio
360mm?
I know.
360 is good for high end chips
very few do.
280 would be balance of perf imo
Will 240mm AIOs even work for 12th gen anymore?
240 is uneccesary when ak620 is as good as most 240mm aios
12400? sure
12700f and lower would do fine with a good 240mm
Cough, 12700.
12600k unlocked power limit? Probably not
That's getting into high end range where 240mm was never meant for anyway
You guys are more experienced then me when it comes to different AIO sizes. Can you help him out?
I'm not the right guy to talk to on this particular subject.
Have them join here, it's hard to talk through a middleman
@knotty grotto
Yes?
Talk to this fine gentlemen here for if you would be better off with AIO or Air cooler.
for the 12600K/12700K your use case calls for, you'll want an AIO
280mm is good for those, even with some light overclocking
EVGA CLC or a b stock liquid freezer like I got would be good cheap options
So can I add more USB slots to a case? With what I need/want I'm looking to hook up an external hard drive, a wireless mouse/keyboard, phone, and maybe a spare for what ever

what i have so far
i should go with a ls720 for a little bling 😄
Im not worried about bling. more than likely the case will stashed behind my tv (as my laptop currently is) as I use my 60" tv a monitor

Is this a good list https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jYhxW4
PC Builder - Intel Core i7-12700F, GeForce RTX 3070 LHR, Thermaltake Core V1 Mini ITX Desktop
are you gaming?
Yes and for vr
are you deadset on that case?
So I've had a guy at work tell me 32gb of ram and now my brother-in-law telling me 64gm of ram. I am confusion
I might change the case to P500a
it's just like
why did you pick itx in the first place if you feel indifferent about moving to such a huge case
I'd get g360a over it
If you're fine with the gpu not being white I'd do smthn like this https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jLxCgb
PC Builder - Intel Core i5-12400F, GeForce RTX 3080 12GB LHR, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
32gb is top end for gaming, going any higher than that you'll actually lose performance
What about photo editing?
That's my biggest concern for the build. Gaming is second
Are they 16k photos or something?
No
Then you don't need more than 32gb
Good to know
if you are into photoshop 8k and premiere 4k videos and things like that maybe 64gigs is justified
Out of curiosity how does too much ram lead to performance loss?
if not, 32 is enough
Yeah 8k video editing and 16k photo editing calls for 64gb
thing about the ram as big storage room.... the bigger it is the harder for the imc (the warehouse boi) will be to reach and use everything there
Increased stress on the memory controller means your maximum speed and latency will be capped
unless you justify that big of a space, its a performance loss
Gaming on max settings I rarely even use 16gb
and as falcie said, the bigger it is, the slower it gets
So it looks like the new camera I will eventually get will take 8k photos. So I'm not gonna go with 64gb
if you cant justify that much ram then its a plain performance loss.... not counting the money spent as well
I really appreciate everyone's help and insight!

I'd get gf1 850 for a bit less, and there's an $800 3080 ti rn
imo also worth getting a 32gb 3200c16 kit when spending that much on a pc
🤣 1 of the better simple memes I've seen, not kidding.
That’s not science that’s arson
those sketchy rebates.... its 830 without the rebate
get a 3200c16 kit
not a 3600
here pal
or this ones if you want t force

you can get a cheaper 3080ti btw
Yeah I know
It's that the same gpu
oh really ma bad
PC Builder - Intel Core i7-12700F, GeForce RTX 3080 Ti, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
I will just work with what I have now
$30 for the trio could be worth it if you vbios flash a higher power limit
but the GF1 worth $5 more
definitely
The SSD could change to MP33 tho
What is GF1
Oh makes sense
yeah its like 3 extra bucks
but this is worth
other than that, list is good
true
2TB hard drive is fine but you could also consider a 2TB MP33 just on it's own instead of 3TB total
either way is fine
Just a question.
I have little to no knowledge on PC building, but I need some advice. I’m thinking on getting a bundle of a ASUS PRIME mother board with a combination of an intel i7 core. I’m looking to save a few bucks and these bundles look like they could be the real deal. But are they worth it? And if so how would I know that the core is compatible with the mother board?
prime is usually an ok board from asus
not always the first choice tho, especially with an i7
if you're referring to the micro center bundles tho with the 11th gen chips, those are good
People can keep in mind, $300ish will also get a 12400 w/ a decent mobo, possibly even 12600K(F).
Check this out on @Newegg: ASUS PRIME Z590-P LGA 1200 Intel Z590 SATA 6Gb/s ATX Intel Motherboard and Intel Core i7-11700K - Core i7 11th Gen Rocket Lake 8-Core 3.6 GHz LGA 1200 125W Intel UHD Graphics 750 Desktop Processor - BX8070811700K
This should be the proper bundle (apologies for the late response)
I know, I want to save a few dollars and this seems like a good deal, but I’m not sure if it’s worth it
That's pretty decent tbf
bit more than 5600+b550 pro vdh wifi
Are computer locks worth it? Do they actually prevent pc theft?
Or at least act as a deterrence?
Do you mean locks that go on the case? For towers? Or the laptop lock things
Kensington style locks are mostly a deterrent, anyone with a bolt cutter can still take it.
Like for pc I'm not sure what they are though I haven't done much research.
Can kensington locks be used for desktops?
Suppose you'd rip something off if you tried pulling a desktop on a kensington
Do you think the pricing on 20 series will drop When 40 series comes out
20 series is almost 100% a used market by now, which has taken a massive dip already due to no more mining of Ethereum. In the next few days/weeks we'll probably see another price crash from panic sales of used mining GPUs, which are totally usable for gamers provided some level of care was given to the cards when mining.
OK thanks cause I didn’t know for sure but I thought maybe
Hey does anyone know if it’s possible for 1 case stand-off to be taller than the others? Washers were included in the extras with the case so I’m wondering if they need to be used to help raise the other standoffs for an matx mobo
Sometimes one standoff will have a peg that helps hold the board in place but other than that they should be the same
Ahh i removed the one with the peg thinking it was just a place holder to show configuration or something
Nope it's a guide to center the board before you screw it in. It helps hold it straight.
I’m an idiot that would explain a lot. I’ve been trying to get the mobo in for ages, correct matx spots etc and it just wouldn’t work
It can be tricky
I’m also petrified I’m going to break something so that doesn’t help either
You'll also want to double check it's not stuck on the IO shield
It's highly unlikely you'll break it
I've dropped bare boards that still work
I have a rog strix and it came out the box with the io shield already on the mobo, should I remove it for the install and then replace it?
Nope if it's a pre installed one just leave it
Thanks
Your help paid off. I put the peg stand-off in and after some wiggling around everything fell right into place
But now I am stuck on a new question lol. Mobo manual shows the gpu slots as pciex16(G5) or pciex16(G4) . Build videos online said to use the upper most (G5). My 3070 box says pcie 4.0 support so can I use the G5 or do I have to use the G4 slot?
the slot near your cpu is the one to be used for your gpu
usually that one have the full 16 pcie lanes
you use the other pcie x16 slot just in the odd case that your primary slot is non functional or you have a second gpu
physically both appear identical, but the one near your cpu have all the pins inside, while the other only have half the pins
also the slot near your cpu have direct communication with the cpu, while the other had to pass first thru the chipset to reach the cpu
Yeah I figured it out thanks, I was honestly just second guessing myself.
Is 550W gonna be enough to run a 12100 and a 1070?
well the o11 is an oven without fans, its literally a closed box
First time builder I put a list together and was wondering if this is all compatible. Also Amy recommendations for different components would be appreciated.

@mossy venture not 18, 2k is
you can get a beautiful 12700 and 3080 on that budget
do you care about cpu overclockign?
PC Builder - Intel Core i7-12700F, GeForce RTX 3080 12GB LHR, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
@mossy venture this is just an amateur project we won't be pushing it so no big deal.
It's a list. I am buying some components for my kid and family getting him some for christmas
I just want to get it together so his relatives know what to get for xmas
I'd definitely check out that list i made then
the parts you were looking at are pretty old and outdated
Okay that's why I asked thank you
lets cook some pizza
By the way, if you're going to wait till Christmas to build it, I'd wait till closer to Christmas for a final list
Prices change, new products release
@stoic island okay thanks
now you made me hungry kenzie 🤨 why? T_T still 2 hours till lunch 😢
Time for cookie

Imagine having food to eat
you made kenzie to reboot felix
Some of my parts came in
Good start
niiiiice
Just built my desk too idk if this counts
What’s a good mobo.for ryzen 7 5800x
For an end of life platform, you'll get a LOT more for your money buying the motherboard and CPU 2nd hand off ebay and whatnot
@broken sorrel here's an example of what I mean:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/385114140951? 7900x for 15 + shipping
way better deal than the 7800x you found on a normal retail site
@leaden mauve thanks a bunch you guys are so helpful
Ill send you a board
https://www.ebay.com/itm/295215641936? @broken sorrel
Hasnt been tested though so the risk is up to you.
Though since it isnt being sold for parts you can technically make a claim if it arrives nonfunctional and get your money back + maybe keep the board anyway lol
https://www.ebay.com/itm/125502337006? A little pricey but it's an excellent board
is there a setting on AMD that messes with video quality
like when you are watching something on a website
I prefer Asus over gigabyte
The aorus master is an objectively good board lol
^
I prefer Gigabyte over Asus a lot of the time
Especially lately, armoury crate is just a load of rubbish
Consistent issues on 2/3 systems
you dont need armory crate...
I do on the laptop
If I want to change performance profiles I have to do it using that
but no I don't use armoury crate anymore as a result on the other 2, I just use them to run static white or static black (Off) and it's been breaking constantly, so they're gone now
can i plug a case fan into my cpu_opt header?
in theory yes
bro’s PC looks like everybody else’s PC
#build-pics message
pfft
if only his PC had a sensor panel/custom fan shrouds
even got the Samsung 980 lolll
Lol
I'm curious.. can I unplug a jrainbow from mobo while my system is on? 😄
just turn it off then add it
Yeah, I was just kidding lol
I'm just having an issue with OpenRGB not wanting to apply colors to half of one of my fans that are daisy chained lol
If I unplug the one fan from argb and plug it back in.. it works fine, until I change a color or start messing with brightness. It gets "stuck" to the changed value and doesn't want to change until its been unplugged and plugged back in lol
I might upgrade my 3080 to a 3090
Are you buying the 3090 outright?
Mhmm
It's only $790
Sell my 3080 with stock heatsink for $500
Pay $290 out of pocket...
Mhmm
Is it white?
No
