Sips list is prolly a better choice, if you want more storage can go for the mp33 pro 2tb (cheaper than non pro by a few $ I believe), or you can always add extra storage later

Never seen that before but i wouldn't trust it, if you don't do a reinstall it will appear fine until you go to do something and it doesn't work or it's super slow for no other apparent reason

Usb method, wiping drive is best yes, otherwise you might not clear the files that will cause the errors
