You're welcome.
someone is interested in playing minecraft?
@gloomy quiver yes
Noice
Who plays Quantum Break and Divisions 2?
i have division 2
Who plays brawlhalla here?
is a ryzen 5 3600x good enough for vr
@halcyon fossil like a rtx 2070 super
x570 would be the better chipset as it has PCIE 4.0, however there are some other things to take into consideration
x570 is better for upgrades in the future.
@smoky salmon techinically it does run hotter
it is also a better chipset
however, realistically the "amount of hotter" it runs, does not matter one bit
its quite literally comparing a rock out in the sun and a rock that has been in the shade
and yes, that board is a decent board
alr
Iโm starting a minecraft server if anyone wants to join pls dm me
cool
Hey I'm new to pc building and me and my dad want to build a pc for racing simulator games such as Project Cars 2, F1 2019, Forza Horizon etc. We have a 55-inch 1080p tv and we are looking for a build around 1200 or under. If any of you have any suggestions it would be appreciated. Thank you!

@main lake well, do you already have periperals?
I assume since itโs a tv that itโs stuck at 60hz
Also yea peripherals would be important
yeah, i don't think they make monitors that big
Yes we have peripherals! I think I got some help from the build chat, but thank you for responding to me
@main lake "some help" <- does that mean you need more help or?
Linux gaming has come a long way
Sorry, Im trying to send a link to the 1000$ build on pcbuilder but it won't let me post the link. If you have any recomendations other than that build I would love to hear it. Thank you!
@main lake just send me the link as a dm, and i will post it for you
the bot will keep eating your link until you get a higher lvl here
sadly it's a fair bit over 1000 now... bc PSUs going out of stock and all
if I can slap in a CX 450w for it's normal price, it would be under 1000$
@manic mural you helped @main lake last night or?
Don't remember
fair
I just have that around to paste it at people lol
kk
i know it will make a "mess" of your pcpp, but i generally do named "saves" of builds with people i actually interact with
"mikeny - newegg - 2000+" <- example of one of them. Name of the user, server it is on, the rough budget
Yes it was @manic mural
i would personally not go with a hdd. and then use that budget on a bigger ssd
Ok thank you! Sorry this was kind of confusing
dont worry :)
and please remember, there are no stupid questions, only silly answers
Thing is naed, at 1000$, it's such a common budget that I just can't be bothered to make separate lists xD
aye aye, i get that :)
it was for the "question/situation/problem" of figuring out: hmm, have i helped this person or not?
Does anyone know where I can buy oculus rift s there sold out everywhere!
yeah, theyve been sold out for a long time
gonna have to wait :(
just be warned, never spend any more than $400 for a new one
Anyone wants to play minecraft rn?
anyone know of an apex discord ? im in plat 4 and looking for other players
Someone here wants to practice on minigames for 1.8.9?
The classics
And pvp
1v1 or anything
i have a dell precision t3600 with an e5 1602
gt 520 ๐
im thinking if i put in a better gpu and replace the cpu with an e4 2640 v2
will it be able to game?
it has a 600+ psu and 32gb of ram
That is a workstation system if I am not mistaken, correct?
What games do you want to play? ๐
Hmmm... Have you already tried to play them on it?
Just be careful. Not all systems support all video cards. I found that out w/ my LGA775 Xeon system. Went to upgrade the video card from a Radeon 5670 (old I know) & it got stuck @ the POST screen. ๐
bruh
mine is lga2011
hopefully it works
im installing win 10 along with existing ubuntu rn
so i can test it out on the 520
I also have a friend that had a similar problem w/ the video card ordeal. IDK what his specs were.
ah i see
His would just NOT boot, after. lol
If you're worried about compatibility, pcpartpicker is pretty great for double checking your current gear with any upgrades you want
lets you make build lists and automatically checks for compatibility issues. Compares prices, as well
dude my mobo isnt even on pcpartchecker
which one?
I assume you already checked userBenchmark?
it says that there are no m.2 drives that are compatable
on UB? I'm looking right now, and there's quite a few
most popular 128 right now is the MTS800
im not using it for windows just for a couple games to load in faster
the highest one at 49$ has a 51% rating. None of the others below 50 have a higher rating than this
which is that?
Mushkin Pilot 250GB
and that would be guarenteed to fit my mobo
That's what it says.
It would probably be easier to measure the length of the mounting area
and just compare with the parts listed there
imma just dm you the link so you can be 100% sure
ill try pcpp
Will the game supernatural from oculus also be in the oculus store?
Literally just played Rust for 11 hours straight. What am i doing with my life...

Seeking help. Usb C suddenly stopped working for my oculus quest (not an oculus cable....but was working perfectly fine). Any ideas??
Was a USB to a USB -C
I ordered a USB -C to USB-C....and even that isnโt connecting to the headset
๐
Is the rabbit hole that is Star Citizen worth jumping down?
no afaik
It's a good way to justify a really expensive computer.
No Man's Sky is more justifiable and already offers most of the features ironically
๐
I got a cyberpower pc that was broken, off the shelf from walmart. no return refunds or warranty (even though cyberpower pc honored it anyway in full) i7-8700 (non-k), 16GB of ram, and a GTX 1060 3G for $330
the only reason i would EVER consider a pre-built in these times is because those system builders buy those GPU's at insane prices, and i couldn't come close (when i was plannning) to build a PC at a better price (like it used to be in the old days)
what was broken about the PC? bad ssd. - i got lucky (walmart even had 'techs' go in store to try and fix it [LOL])
overpriced retail? absolutely ๐
cyberpower pc even sent me the replacement fan, lighting kit (just needed remote) and mousepad that was supposed to come with the PC ( hashtag not sponsored ) but i approve of their amazing AMAZING customer service
wrong channel? pls dont ban
Ok cool ๐
It might of been bad because it was only 330 dollars ๐ญ
@bitter inlet that goes in #links-and-selfpromotion please
got it
๐
there is no selling in this server, but I would check ebay or maybe r/hardwareswap someone might have something
Myb โค๏ธ
@full wing we dont allow buying/selling here, but just a tip of advice, never pay more than MSRP price for a VR headset especially if used.
Rift S = $400, Quest 64gb = $400, Quest 128gb = $500, Index full set = $1000, Vive (hard to find and all used anyways) $450-500 (i wouldnt get vive)
Thank you ! My bad
I wanted a vive for fullbody
But I heard Rift S does the same thing, I run a business online that requires full body VR tracking
with the rift s for full body tracking, you need to buy the base stations + the vr headset + the 3 body trackers + straps to adhere them to your body
its the same with the vive, but the vive should come bundled with the base stations anyways
also
with the rift s
you cant use full body tracking outside of SteamVR apps
Oh I did not know that rift had Fullbody tracking thank you. Yes all of my apps are through steamvr
yep
Oculus does not support Full Body Tracking, but SteamVR allows you to do it anyways (connecting back to what i said earlier about only working with steamvr apps)
Thanks so much! Now I just need to build a pc around it. Im sure $1500-1700 works
For the PC
^^ awesome thanks all of these things are a bit confusing
@full wing https://pcpartpicker.com/list/JjXFyk
Could save money by going with rgb-less ram, not-as-good-looking case, and cheaper fans but i like that list a lot
and it sits just under $1700
Thank you very much!!
Thats an amazing build it fits everything I needed and more
The one I was going to buy from the bestbuy guys was... expensive, and less powerful
yeah, thats bestbuy and prebuilts for ya
oh also
i forgot to add it to the list but i recommend this
for thermal paste
the stock cooler has some thermal paste on it but this will do a much better job.
to get the stock paste off, i recommend using a coffee filter and some rubbing alcohol as it will do the best job in removing all of the stock paste (90% or higher isopropyl alcohol will work)
I really appreciate this info. I will tag you in the pictures once the build is finished ^^
Thanks again so much
awesome ๐ no problem
well i got win 10 and ubuntu to dual boot
and destiny 2 installed
about to test it out ๐
pfft.
i got win 10 and macos to dual boot.
lmao but good job
dual boot is a pain in the butt
question
does ur windows install change the time every time you go back from ubuntu?
Mine does
what if I dual boot windows 10 and windows 10
do that and then run windows 10vms inside each
when i use macos and go back to windows the time gets screwed up
it thinks its like 5h earlier
That happens to me w/ Linux & Windows or the BIOS time in general, @halcyon fossil . I think it has something to do w/ GMT.
ye
how anybody got any good deals for vr
Bill gates looking for deals...
Now I've seen everything ๐
most are sold out
I have considered getting into VR, just not sure if I really want to yet
well right now most headsets are out of stock
well rn most headsets are out of stock
well rn most headsets are out of stock
well rn most headsets are out of stock
I know, but I am still debating on if I truly want to do VR
@visual bear what questions do you have about VR?
ive used multiple headsets and am happy to help if you need it
its not really questions perse, its more hesitation of would the VR be worth it, I like the concept and idea, but I have double vision that is not correctible so would I even benefit from it, and as far as hardware what would be the better (more user customizable?) as I like to tinker....
@halcyon fossil but I am considering getting into it, and not sure if I could use it with non VR designed games (like train simulator 2020)
valve index would probably be the most customizable but its super expensive
i like VR, games like beat saber, half life alyx, boneworks
all good game
games*
I really don't have many VR games, only one that I think I even play is Bridge crew
ah
but if i could get a game like train simulator to work in vr that might make it more interesting to me however
Remnant from the Ashes is on sale for Steam. Is it worth buying/playing?
Derail Valley on Steam is supposedly like train simulator, also there's flight simulators and others for vr, like racing... anyone else get a Pimax while they are on sale? ๐ฎ same as valve index... and comes with controlers
also hi everyone I'm goodmix
same price, way better specs apparently
Remnant from the Ashes co-op looks pretty awesome... built in voice chat only... but it looks fun
Yo anyone wanna 1v1 in fortnite
no
Add my epic TTV SLAUGHT3R or Tyler0919 If that doesnโt work
@full wing no gofundmes please
all good
Hey everyone. I just joined on here, so please let me know if this is the right place for questions like mine. I just ordered the XFX RX 580 XXX Edition 8GB. I know I'll see night and day difference from the nVidia GTX 580, but what kind of numbers (FPS, etc.) can I expect in games like?
For reference, other components I'm running:
Core i5-7400 3 GHz Quad-Core
MSI H110M PRO-D Micro ATX LGA1151
G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3000
Samsung 840 EVO 250 GB Boot
EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750 W 80+ Gold
I'm using the rig for digital art and video editing, on top of gaming (when time allows)
@outer dagger I had an rx580 4gb and a ryzen 5 2600, and I pushed about 100 frames in most games on mid settings. Most games on mid settings, expect 80-100 frames.
You might get over a 100 with low settings
anyone wanna play apex?
you wot
@open oasis tried unturned 4.0 yet?
checking my join date
Hey I could use some help. So I just got 3 vive trackers for full body tracking on saturday and so far everything was working just fine till yesterday after trying out blade and sorcery's full body tracking, the trackers just started to get all jittery. Can someone help?
@halcyon fossil you around to help the guy above here with a VR question?
i wouldnt know anything about vive trackers, sorry
tracking devices do bug out when theyre on low battery, so maybe try giving them all a full charge
try wiping the base stations with a microfiber cloth, update graphics drivers
common solutions ^
@dense delta whats ur pc specs?
it didnt work
@dense delta make sure it's public not private
Anybody got some recommendations for a horror game for VR?
@full wing Half Life Alyx has some pretty scary moments
wouldnt be a horror game tho
my sentiments exactly
absolutely terrible
no please no
flip no.
troll build is troll.
@stray bone aye, it can deliver frames. IF the right settings are found. But it will never be a powerhouse for this day and age
which was the point of the original answer :)
lol yes that is very true
Just finished playing about an hour of HL Alyx. Amazing so far. But feeling a little motion sick. and strangely everything still sort of feels disconnected like I am in VR after taking it off. Never had that sensation before.
It didn't hit me at first, but I got up and walked over and sat down on the couch and was reading on my phone and had the weirdest feeling like the motion and the way I was holding my phone still felt like VR fand threw me off for a second. I have read about people having this problem before but never experienced it myself.
Has anyone had any luck playing bo3 on pc without it stuttering like crazy? If so can you help me?
drivers and settings
those are your main ways of fixing
but, that is the general fix for most games
(i dont play bo3)
Bo3 came out like 4-5 years ago and drivers are updated
Every setting is the lowest it can be
Vsync on in control panel off in game
2070 super and 2700x
No
I've heard bo3 is horribly optimized but some people fixed it by changing a certain setting but no luck fro me
Would redownloading the game fix it?
my frametimes are incredibly high at 20 ms on valorant. is there a fix? i have a ryzen 5 2400g and a rx570
covert mouse sensitivity for tryhards
Lol
Takes 30 seconds to figure out what 2.0 in cs go means in valorant, apex, overwatch etc.
I like to figure it out myself
because different games feel different
and require different sens imo
vr is fun
@midnight glacier what makes you say this?
cause its fun
vr... chat?

vr chat fun
VRchat big fun
Using VR to play on a PC
is there a channel for game deals?
Not a designated channel but sometimes people put them in here or #tech-deals
:0
It's almost impossible to find a rift s in any stores, even online. all used are 600+ dollars and even for new in some places.
Oh that's a cool port that's like how someone did that with metal gear solid from the ps1 looks wayyyy better on the PC with the port
What are some new releases for the vive that would be worth getting?
Have to play this OG since today is may 4th
@dense slate how does one go about downloading the pc port of super mario 64?
Probably a stupid question but Is there like special pc parts I need to play vr other than like a vr headset ?
pretty sure when you buy one you also get the controllers you would normally use for vr
you can also buy sensors for full body tracking
as long as your pc is capable of VR and has 3.1 usb ports, and an open DP port (or hdmi for older headsets) you shouldn't need anything else. But if you get something like the index, you have to make sure you buy the headset, base stations, and controllers. You can buy the headset by itself but you need the other stuff to play. Rift S will come with what you need
a lot of the newer ones do, and dp would be on your gpu
Oh ok
No no donโt touch me there
this is my no no square

Can anyone recommend a good gaming laptop from like $500-$1000?
I was planning on playing games on it such as Generation Zero, R6S, CSGO, MC, etc etc
laptops are wacky, I might take a look in a bit.
Shotguns take no skill, thats why I'm so good at shotgun only gamemode xD
This seems alright for a laptop
https://www.newegg.com/black-msi-gf65-thin-9sd-251-gaming-entertainment/p/2WC-000C-011B9?&quicklink=true
I think thatโs the best bang for you buck laptop wise
Not much storage tho
Just get a giant tape drive
Is Oculus Rift the best budget headset right now?
rift s best budget yes
it is also impossible to find nowadays
don't pay more than 400 for it
The plain old Rift is only $300, and the Rift S is $400. Why not buy the plain old Rift?
@calm reef
the rift s is better if you have a small space and is easier to setup because it has inside out tracking, so it is only the headset and controllers. the original rift has external sensors and from i hear you need to buy a 3rd sensor for decent tracking. The visual clarity on the rift s is also better, but the audio on the original is better than the rift s
Okay. Thanks! I'll look into it!
Does anyone here play Jedi fallen order?
i did
I don't even have the money to afford almost all of the stuff that everyone is talking on this server
Same. Im here with a 600 dollar laptop, and that is it
It's not cheap
@cobalt sinew you know you can build a whole gaming setup for $600 if you really wanted to.
Just saying
Yeah, but when I got this I didnt know much about computers. I would probably have ended up screwing it up, no matter how many tutorials I would have watched
@azure sundial buy Dell Optiplex 7010 with i7-3770 and put GTX 1050 in it, and put Windows on Fattydove SSD
Last I looked, 480 prices were trash
Ok
Though I gotta say, 1050 prices also looked pretty trash
The only thing that appeals to me is the 580, and especially the 1650 Super
Ashes of the Singularity FREE

Yo I know the minimum recommended requirements for VR are either a GTX 960 or an RX 580, but any way you could run it on a lower end PC, with an example being this: i7-860 + RX 570 4gb.
What about a more powerful cpu (i7-3770ish) with an RX 470/480?
Iโd like to label my PC flips as โVR readyโ but idk if anything below those RX 580/gtx 970 requirements would run it well...
Does that make sense?
I won't bother with VR until the resolution is better and less buggs ^^
๐คฆโโ๏ธ
lol that doesnt relate to the question
@gilded lion my brother has an RX570 and im curious how well it would run too. If youd like i could give it a try if he is willing to let me
I did run VR on a 1050ti and it sorta struggled, but the RX570 is about 30% faster than the mobile 1050ti i used, so I think VR would run okay on it.
Well I donโt have a be headset or anything. Before I do VR Iโd like to upgrade my monitor and graphics card, and then try VR
Iโm just asking because itโs a pretty big selling point to say a PC is โVR Readyโ
lol understandable
Also, @full wing have you tried VR before? If so, what headset?
Anyone here play Rust?
Not me
I've been debating between getting Rust or Ark
Rust is toxic but can be fun
is the oculus considered the best VR overall?
the Oculus Rift S is the best VR headset in my opinion.
The only other one that i would even recommend right now is the Valve Index, and i can hardly recommend that because it has a $1000 price tag.
holy moly, $1000
yeah
I'm thinking about picking up one... I wonder if I have enough space in my living room for it haha
(The Oculus) haha
rift s is $400 and the only things youre missing out on is the finger tracking which is a gimmick, and the nicer screen which doesnt matter when youre focused on the game. (i guess audio is a downgrade too)
but you gain much better software, easier tracking with the inside out cameras, easier controllers, and access to the oculus store
Index is technically best, oculus best value tho
well said
there is no "technically", i think you should be saying "on paper"
Well if I had $1000 to spend, I'd be picking up the Index instead?
but in practice, finger tracking is a gimmick in its current state, you have to set up base stations around your room, their software is worse, however the screen and headphones are nice
oh wow!
in Half Life Alyx, developed by the same people who made the Index, the only thing you can do in that game that you cannot do with other headsets is crush cans.
which adds nothing to the game.
just think about the price difference is my main point.
is the better audio and screen worth the extra $600 including all the problems it has?
also index hardware is notorious for breaking
see ya
if you have any more questions, just ping me. I own a Rift S and know just about everything there is to know about VR
sweet thanks
ye
Index has better res refresh fov and tracking, both have their issues
It really just comes down to what you can afford
If you donโt have the money no need to get index, rift s is fine
index tracking allows for accessories to be tracked too, but those accessories are expensive.
also base stations berak.
break*
rift s has cameras on the headset, less likely to break since no moving parts.
Unless you hit your head on a wall a lot lol

mmmm
@halcyon fossil ack are you going to buy the 'Jedi' controllers when they release for Rift and Quest?
depends on cost/what they do that my controllers cant do already
i suspect theyre just gonna add finger tracking. i could care less.
finger tracking with controllers is dumb.
the idea of finger tracking is meant so you dont need a controller
also i dont do social stuff in vr yet, so no finger tracking advantage there
index controllers cost $280 with the selling point that they have finger tracking. if oculus puts their controllers at that price, that is going to be a no from me.
their separate touch controllers cost $80 a piece, so i assume the price will only go up.
i am interested in Oculus Del Mar though... i would like to see better screen, mostly in the refresh rate area, better audio, and better comfort. The quest's fabric strap isnt so great imo.
i want it to do what the quest is trying to do
PC/Portable headset
without drawbacks

seems like a port issue

Restart routers and other hardware. A classic IT trouble-shooting technique.
Use a cable connection. ...

Replace defective and inefficient hardware.
here you go
๐
also heard much much issues with valorant
nice
@halcyon fossil i did do some research into it and the del mar is most likely a quest succesor and the jedi controllers seem to just be the controllers for it. the only imputs i saw seem to be the same inputs youd get on the current controller, so I dont think its going to be a big improvement in that field. just that they will work with the quest as well.
ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Controllers will have about same layout
I hear rumors that like quest you can use standalone or with pc, 90hz stand-alone, 120hz with pc
Looks like it might have a slimmer design than quest
It seems it is not meant to replace the current headsets but put a higher end option out there on the oculus side of things
Looks interesting
lol
im probably not gonna get the new headset tbh... i relatively just got my rift s

How is the occulus rift and rift s sold out every where? I mean I get people are bored but damn. Any one have any luck finding one aside from over priced used eBay's.
@tropic forge pandemic shuts down factories
no headsets are being made
half life alyx made everybody get a headset
then they are all gone
since everybody bought one
theyre gonna be out of stock for a bit
you can get a Rift refurbished for $300, but the rift s is much much much better.
Yeaaa, I definitely want to rift s over the rift. That's unfortunate but also makes alot of sense.

Well in a few months I guess.
Really gonna suck. I just built my new pc about a month ago, and I was so excited for VR, but they've been sold out everywhere

magic!
Your good at the trick ghost. You should teach it to me some time
yes i am very good at teaching the tricks of the magic
anyway, hmmm. local multiplayer. the only examples of local multiplayer i've seen required multiple pcs and headsets, but i've seen some places that use only 4 sensors for all headsets(although that is custom software i think). there are some games that is like one person goes in vr and the other goes on the pc and play together
idk much about it tho ยฏ_(ใ)_/ยฏ
Zack, are you available to voice?
I got something fun in No Man's Sky ๐
I seems Zack is tied up, is there anyone else who knows VR system requirements and Headset comparisons pretty well?
gtav is free on epic games just letting ppl know
!rank
JusticeB, this command is disabled in this channel
you cant really do local multiplayer with VR outside of having 2 PCs with 2 VR headsets (Or 2 quests to play without PCs) and 2 copies of the game. If you get 2, you can play multiplayer in the same room if you wanted.
theres also asymetric multiplayer like Takelings: House Party or Keep Talking and Nobody Dies
oh yeah i forgot about those
Anyone excited for quest 2? ๐๐ฝ๐๐ฝ
hopefully it is what i hope it is
Man I love the new updates in NMS, WEEEEEEE
Nice
I was playing on a OC Quest and thought it was neat but was wanting to do local multiplayer, is 2 OC Quests best or can I do 2 headsets with OC Rift, or would a console be better?
All VR games that are multiplayer are online (to the best of my knowledge)
what exactly do you mean by local multiplayer?
like, two people, two headsets?
same location
I want to do VR with my son
2 people, same time, same game, in same room
Two PCs and two PC VR headsets would be optimal, as anybody who wants to play can sign in to SteamVR or Oculus much easier than on a Quest, but if you are wanting to just do it with your son, and you plan on having one quest for each person and only them, then quests are fine
i dont like the Oculus quest that much, but it doesnt require a PC and if you plan on getting two then it will be much cheaper
I also don't want to spend a whole bunch, and I'm pretty sure 2 OC quests would do it, but what is real different to Rift?
The Rift S has a better screen, the software is better, you do not have to charge the headset to use it, you have access to the entirety of the SteamVR library, and with a good PC graphics are much better.
oh also the tracking is better and its more comfortable imo.
so I've watched a bunch of vids about VR setups, but they don't seem to mention much on same location, I guess that's kind of going away
the oculus quest does have hardware based IPD adjustment, so that might be a plus, however the Rift S covers most common IPDs so it should not be a problem
yeah
IPD?
the distance between your two pupils
inter-pupulatory distance
i cant spell that word
oh well
lol
i bet it's pupilatory, like pupils
yeah
but anyways
as long as both you and your sons pupil distance are not super short or super wide, then the RIft S will not be a problem
I've heard an issue with rift is you have to be wired...t or f?
everything you need for the Oculus Quest is built into the headset, for the Rift S you need a PC to power it. The PC handles the graphics, the headset gets information based on rotation of your head, where you are, etc.
thats why the Rift S has a cable
and, for 2 rift Ss, that would require 2 VR level PCs?
yes
price of two Quests would be $800, price of two RIft S's would be $800 + the cost of two VR Ready PCs
so that about doubling the cost
yeah
someone said you might be able to use single VR PC with custom setup enabling multiple headsets, never heard of nything like that?
i havent, but that would not be a good idea anyways. One VR headset on a PC is taxing enough
plus for games you couldnt do two log ins for different accounts at once
think of it this way, each headset is 2 screens with high refresh rates, so that's 4 screens trying to render a game at 90+FPS
that's a lot for a single GPU
rift s is actually one screen lol
haha

it might be possible... but its more trouble than its worth
are there any you tube videos with side by side of same game on Quest as Rift S?
youtube videos wont show anything
you need to try the headsets for yourself to see the difference
How can I try Rift now? Am I stuck until Best Buys open again?
ill try my best to explain some key differences
the Oculus Quest can only play games from the Oculus store that are Quest Compatible. The hardware in the headset is not very powerful as it is a mobile chip, so graphics wont be as nice as on a PC VR system. The Oculus Quest can play PCVR games with a special cable, but that defeats the purpose because you would still need a VR ready PC to play those games with the nicer graphics. The Rift S can play any VR game available (that isnt a Quest Exclusive). With the Rift S you can purchase games on Steam which is compatible with every headset should you ever decide to upgrade to a different headset that isnt Oculus.
Also yeah, gotta wait till best buy opens
So, if it was up to you and money was no object(unfortunately for me it is) you'd go with 2 Rift Ss over PS4 VR or any other setup? I also hears of one that starts with a V I think, and VR was supposed to be better, but not much content
PS4 VR is not good
and yes, I would go with two Rift Ss over two Oculus Quests, but for your situation, i think the Oculus Quest would be the best choice as it saves a lot of money and do not require cables or anything.
The HTC Vive requires a PC, is outdated, and overpriced. And the Valve Index costs $1000 on top fo the cost of a VR Ready PC.
HTC Cosmos, that is newer release
Costs $600 (or $700 idk), has bad tracking, and you need a VR ready pc.
also the controllers are kinda meh
of all of the VR headsets I know of, the Oculus Quest would be the best choice for you.
Ok, to put a penny out there for your thoughts, I always shop and shop till I can find what I feel is great deal, you gonna be on for a bit so I can switch PCs? I was just gonna see what your VR build would be, I saw someone earlier say a "best" PC build would be $800, but the GTX20** are usually priced upwards of $300
a good PC VR pc would be at least $600, and even that is cutting it close. Double that for two setups, thats $1200, plus the cost of two Rift S's, that would be $2000.
and that $600 would be going with older generation / possibly used parts
plus you need monitors, keyboard, mice for both PCs, plus a place to put them, and space for each VR setup. Its not a good idea to have two people in VR right next to eachother because the headsets might get confused on which controllers are which, also you wander around in VR without even knowing it so you dont want to hit the other person.
aye, so background, also my epic is loading GTA5 on the other PC, is that gonna eat up my 1.5 MBps connection to prevent much other use...I.E. should I pause it?
back ground, my son, Gabriel(12 yo)'s friend brought over an OC quest and i was talking to his father and he said his son wanted to get the rift because he couldn't play some game, that's what's giving me concern on 2 Quests
oculus quest hardware is limited
its not very powerful compared to what a good PC can offer
games like Half Life Alyx for example require a PC because it simply cannot run on the Quest due to hardware limitations
or things like No Man's Sky VR or Subnautica VR, definitely need a PC for those
I could really afford 2 complete VR setups and already have enough monitors/KB and such, I would really just like to see if differnce would justify cost
the oculus quest can play pc vr games anyways, over a special cable, so if you decide later that you wanna play games only available on PC, then you can buy that.
obviously cost is relative, but how much space would be required for 2 Rift S systems?
I.E. could i run a couple extension cords and play in the yard, lol?
Deference to rain of course!
vr headsets dont like extension cables
oculus quest has no cables
you can play it outside if you want to
but dont expose the lenses to sunlight, youll burn the screen,
Someone said you could do custom setup and create Wireless for Rift S...T or F?
not with the rift s
that would still require a PC btw, plus the theoretical adapter for that costs $300, so double that for two headsets, that adds $600 to the cost.
Can you tell me a little about the way you do VR?
i think the index and cosmos can do it too
Index with the vive addon?
nvm not index
But those are still sub Par compared to Rift S?
but cosmos for usre
Im sure cosmos can do it
No theyre not.
Theyre not as good for price per performance
Rift s is best value for pc vr rn
Is there much Pg-13 or lower Games on Epic or Steam?
all multiplayer vr games will have people yelling bad words into the mic
and doing bad things
spend 5 minutes in VRChat, youll know what i mean.
I was playing the Star Wars game on the quest and it was super cool walking around the Galactic space ship, that's what got me interested in VR
Zack, can you tell me about yourself?
what would you like to know?
The language thing I get, unfortunately even my 12 YO son's friends talk like sailors lol
You have any kids?
Yikes
LOL
I'd like to know how old you are, but I know a lot of people don't like to share that
This conversation flipped 180ยฐ
Yeah, that's good, more interested in knowing how much life experience you have to reference from lol
That doesnt factor into vr experience
So that tells me a bit, ha ha
Right, but in refence to my inital questions it does play a part
If you say so
I wasn't trying to cause offense, but the world does change on budget and problem solving when children are added to the equation
I'm trying to figure what VR setup would work best for me and my son to play together, but sound like there may not be an idel setup that would work, when Iwas younger the online multiplayer didn't exist, me and my friends would be in same laction playing games on same console, now except for ZNintendo, that's kind of going away
Q u e s t
I'm thinking that might be best option, just not optimal, lol
multiplayer is all online now, you can still play with your son, you just have to send him a friend request through the software
you can be in the same room too if you want
although its not a good idea with VR as you dont want to accidentally hit your son, also the headset might get confused with all the controllers
I.E. play in 2 different rooms?
I have him use his own money for some stuff, but he got the EA annual pass for his XBOX and then I would have to create another account and pay again to get it on my PC
that would be the best choice, as you do not have to worry about hitting eachother/running into eachother and the headsets will not get confused with all the controllers
And you said you can do PC games using the Quest?
If you get the cable
ANd it would need to be VR compatible PC?
A vr capable pc
OK, so I was already looking at doing a PC Build and getting a Laptop fpor Gaming, What is minimum Processor and Video Card requirements for that?
I had already ordered a Ryzen 5 1600 and a GTX 1050 Ti with 16 GB of Ram, would that be sufficient for good game play?
Cuz I can still return them if needed
Way too much, lol, I paid 140 for the processor and then saw it 2 days later for $85 on amazon, and paid way too much for Video Card too...$150
85 for a 3600 tho?
Oh wait
1600
Lol i cant read
Yeah the 3600x is 180
So a 1600 for 140 is way too much
ryzen 1600 is VR Ready, but i encourage you to return it and get it for $85 instead
Yeah, and Amazon price on that processor jumped 2 days later, now I can't find it cheaper then what I paid
Or take the money and get a better gpu
also for $150 you could get a RX480 or an rx580 used/refurbished on Ebay which will provide much better performance than the 1050ti
I also have this PC that has a DX 10 Card so was looking to upgrade that one, but it's ancient and only has dual PCIe 2.0 x16 slots
that would not suffice for vr
and I bought the 1050 for $150, but found bettter ones on Ebay for like $70
1050ti isnt VR ready
despite what websites tell you
i used a 1050ti for VR for awhile, it could barely handle beat saber which is an easy to run VR game.
is the RX AMD or Nvidea?
Amd
Naed recommended 4GB minimum for gaming and said, even though my MB only supports DDR3 Memory I could use DDR5 memory in the PCIe slots without issue
i think you might have misheard him
Ddr3 is referring to the ram
that would not work at all
DDR and GDDR are not the same thing
Gddr
DDR5 on video Card
GDDR5
Thats not how it works
G
Ddr3 is not gddr
not the same thing
gddr5 (graphics ddr)
GDDR and HBM are for GPUs and have nothing to do with what DDR you MB can use
yes, I built it like 15 years ago but still outplays new Laptops with i7 and Nvidea discrete so I wanted to se how long I could keep it going
That is not outperforming a modern laptop
if by modern laptop you mean a celeron and a 1030, sure
Also, I wanted to use an mSata SSD from a laptop I'm no longer using, and ordered adapter to go into Mini PCIe slot, that should be OK yes?
Not an i7 with nvidia discrete graphics
I had an Dell XPS that was few years old with that SSD and it was way slower, so I don't know
When did theycadd basebuilding
it was i7 6670 and not sure of GPU, but I could find it
Thats not a new laptop
base building was the 1st update almost 4 years ago XD
Ah i dont own nms and dont keep up with it
more recent update, I'm piloting a mech
https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/500103141900025857/710722030353514577/unknown.png
Nice
sorry, not new, I meant "newer?
OMG NMS is sooo much better, it's like FO76 if they did everything the opposite
lol

I got NMS for $5, best investment in my entertainment 3.5 years later XD
I will get it on a sale
front of my large base :3
finding an "earth-like" with green grass and blue sky was a pain XD
Lol
all week I haven't shut up about the game and people keep wanting to know what it is so they can play XD
on my new build I got this MB, could you make a recommendation on what processor I should get for it to do VR?
You said you play well with Ryzen 5 3600?
any ryzen 5 model will be fine with vr
what's the difference on the 3600x vs 3600?
3600x has a better stock cooler and very slightly faster speeds
if its like $20-30 more id go for it
anything above that meh
$40 maaaybe
i5 8400 is about same price as regular r5 3600, AMD is better at this price point?
a little less than $20 difference for x version
on Laptop side is this one Sufficient for good VR?
do you already have the board?
Yes, but can return it
cause you can't use intel CPUs in an AMD board
no, it's considerably worse overall
6core/6thread i5 vs 6Core/12Thread R5
you can do a lot more with the R5
It sounds like 2 OC Quests will be solution on VR side, but am still going to build another PC for my living room and want to make sure it will be VR ready, and I like my builds to me semi future proof
*to be
Think the r5 3600x for 200 would be best for my $?
IMO, yes
it comes with it's own cooler, you'd have to buy one for the i5 or use that crappy stock it comes with
I understand, any idea why the r5 1600 was so frowned upon, especially if I was ablle to get it for $85, it seems clock speed was about the same as 3600
unfortunately now ity's over$150 so wouldn't be much more for the slight increase in speed
same clock speed doesn't mean same performance, there was a huge IPC gain on 3rd gen, and a node shrink
it's far more powerful, runs cooler, and is more energy efficient
Ahh, nanometer size, less power, was Cache increased?
entire architecture was changed
ur name has R7 3700X, I'm guessing that's CPU you have, that ones $80 difference, would that be worth it? and I think it will work in board I ordered
r5-r7-r9 is that mainly cache size different if same generation? i know in Intel chipos the model #s refence generation, is that true for AMD as well? I.E. r5 1600 is 1st gen, 3600 is 3rd gen?
while it is nice to have, the use cases for NEEDING the Ryzen 7 3700X are pretty slim, only a few games are fully multithreaded, and it's more of a content creation kind of CPU
Yes the 1600 and 3600 are first and third gen
R5-7-9 have a multitude of differences
Not just cache size
R5 3600x is best bet
What Gen is AMD up to now on Ryzen series?
3
Ok, I'm sold on 3600x, I want to be like you, lol!
Lol why?
In terms of CPU ownership of course!
I mean its a very good cpu
what GPU do you have?
A 2070
my GPU is not recommended, but I have a Radeon VII
well poop... my aggressive NMS base expansions need more power lol
Poop
what would be most comparable Nvidea card to what you have? I'm looking at them now, there's huge price discrepancy when you get to the on some of them, what's difference between RTX and GTX series?
is RTX new 2000 series and GTX is 1000 series?
the 1000 series are 1 gen old
Its different architecture
Except 1650 and 1660 series
The 20 series rtx cards have somethijg called real time ray tracing which is useless
the 1600 series are current but no ray tracing and kinda the lower 1/2 of the line up
but the 20 series are current
about what price point would be good?
Depends on hwo much you wanna spend on a card
the 2000 series have ray tracing and over lap slightly with the 1600 series but go into the high end
I wanna spend little for a Great Card, so there's RTX2060 for $30 more than GTX 1660 both with 6GB GDDR
they are almost the same performance, except the 2060 has ray tracing, but it also depends what sku you are taking about
at about $300
I'm looking at Amazon, maybe I'll look at NewEgg so i can do the compare option
there is the 1660, the 1660 Ti, 1660 Super, 2060, 2060 Super
confusing, but blame Nvidia
ok 1660 Super
they are near identical performance with the Ti being SLIIIGHTLY better
All +/- $15
the 2060 (non Super) has the best performance out of all of them you posted
the 2060 Super would be the best of that line, but for more
think approx $300 is about range I should be looking in?
depends on the game and the quality you want
That's where I don't know, I started this whole process cuz the chip in this ancient PC is only DirectX 10 and I started downloading some of the Free Games that started coming out as a result of the Covid pandemic and it couldn't play them...the game your posting...could I play that with the 2060 card?
I'd hate to return the stuff I've already decided too, order new stuff and be disappointed with Lag
well I don't know exactly how demanding the games are in VR
Unfortunately I'm clueless too, maybe it'd be worth talking to Oculus, if possible, and see if they have some helpful info
The NMS, what game is that? It looks cool!
No Man's Sky
it was crap on release, but it's gotten a lot of updates
basically you explore the universe traveling hundreds of thousands of lightyears where you can explore, adventure, fight, or whatever you want.
you can pick a planet to settle down on and build a base, or you can have a mobile base in a capital ship
watching some vids on it now!
there are a lot of things to get used to and learn, and it took me several attempts to really learn everything and "get good"
some of the planets are "rare" with unusual features https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/619911687306215424/710147449620135977/unknown.png

Should you buy No Man's Sky? In this video I will show you why you should play No Man's Sky in 2020! This is a full No Man's Sky review of all the updates and how it impacted gameplay. Over the last 4 years No Man's Sky has evolved into so much more than was ever promised!
Sh...
yea that's a good overview of all the content that was added
Watching this one now, can you do VR with this? That would be AWESOME!
Of course it needs Rift, lol
totes recommend the game if you'd like a space exploration survival game
it's like the largest MMO you can imagine, except you can also play it completely single player XD
what's XD?
๐คฃ
was that a meme?
it's an emoji
Like a face?
yes
OK, glad i asked when no one else was around lol
it's OK, everyone has a Boomer moment now and then

So happy with all the updates to NMS, it really is enjoyable to play
well, I'm off to bed, it's 4:30 AM
take care
You too, Thanks for the help tonight!
no problem
GN
dang you were up late
Revenge for the TD
does any one of ya'll think about quitting video games forever?
nope
nope cause I'm an adult and I can choose how I spend my free time
i personally dont game a fraction of the time that i used to
but i doubt that i would ever completely stop playing games
I am really enjoying HL:alyx, but the game still makes me feel sick. I have noticed that it seams to not bother me as much with the feeling of sea sickness if I play something like Beat saber for about 10 minutes after I stop.
Yikes. That sounds like it takes the fun outta it
Inspired by NeoNinja's Graduating from Battlefield #2
This video took the longest out of any video to make I hope you guys enjoy :))
What should be my first be game
portal 2
hey i have an asrock amd 5700 rx xt gpu, with a 450mac mobo... is there any way to universally force any app regardless if its a game or an prductive app. to be in windowed.
theres a game i want to try https://store.steampowered.com/app/327650/Mays_Mysteries_The_Secret_of_Dragonville/
and everyti8me i try to load it, it forces itself in a ful screen mode, which only loads a black screen and music in the background
Steam
Please Note: This is not a 'new release' but a first release on Steam. The original PC version of May's Mysteries was available in 2012 but was never released on Steam, this is the Steam release of that same game.May's Mysteries: The Secret Of Dragonville is an exciting puzzle...
$9.99
Idk sometimes f11 does it
Would I have a better experience with a Oculus Rift S paired with a GTX 1050 TI, or a Oculus quest, with notably lower graphics, but I would be able to use it away from my computer (a huge plus for me)?
Cause I sort of want both.
Like with the Rift-S, I can use all my current steam games with it, whereas the Quest is limited to the Oculus store.
And I can't do oculus link cause I don't have a type-C connector on my PC :(
@daring sleet oculus link works with USB 2.0 now, the feature is in beta
also the 1050ti wont give high fps so it will not look so great
quest wont either, but likeeeee
yea
I'm just trying to figure out if I would be greatly disappointed by the graphics quality/low screen refresh rate of the quest
which tbh when I had my original rift it was very meh
do you still have your og rift
OOOHHHH
@raven flame
COMING SOON
NOW IS TIME TIME
OOO:
lol what
Finally I can vr chat
why
was a joke because forks would use it for vrchat
i literally saw you get on vr chat last night
was testing something out with kinect and full body tracking
riiiiiiiiiight
then i realized i didnt have a kenict to usb adapter
no.

no.
im kinda worried tho cause if i buy a rift s now and then the next best thing comes in only a couple months ima be upset lol
๐
Can buy a kinect -> usb adapter real cheap
Way back when I was playing with my Xbox 360 Kinect sensor and my pc
It was cool
๐ฎ
When I get vr I am trying this
@harsh mica nice aim but that name doe
@sick crypt I made it when I was 12, like 6 years ago and I just havent changed it to something reasonable yet xD
Minecraft with RTX enabled is officially what I am using to justify spending so much money on a gaming PC
Just needed to put that out there
A free game on steam right now, it also has a VR version, it's chess, but bigger and different
It's called Four Kings One War
It's 100% free, so grab it whilst ya can, it won't hurt or cost ya anything
now im playing around with connect sensor https://i.imgur.com/44vCUNa.png
finally got to work
@manic mural did you see the R6 reveal today?
I know
lol
someone I know whos usually plat is in silver rn, but gets placed with us plats in cassual I think because of kd
eh
