the trick to avoid the cpu from sticking to the heatsink is running a heavy load on the cpu to keep it hot, then you'll have enough time to take the heatsink off while the paste is still nice and warm after turning the pc off

I think it'd be more due to lack of dedicated linux testing at their QA office.

Steam Decks are simple, testing a large variety of PC hardware is not. My studio has a LABs testing team. Which trys to test as much as we can, but regularly use all our budget on hardware. Handheld, ram, and ssd prices rising did not help. We test multiple windows versions though and multiple drivers. Adding linux on top of that would be a logistical nightmare.

So we test Several Aspect ratios, 15 generations generations of CPU's(AMD, Intel), 16 generations of GPU's(AMD, Nvidia, Intel), 4 versions of windows. at least 10 handheld pc's. and have to do different ram configurations on top of all that. AND 4 game platforms on PC.

With like the last 4 drivers for Intel, AMD, and Nvidia in rotation.

Adding Linux on top of that would be insane.

Developers will treat the Steam Deck and Steam Machine as consoles as much as they can basically. probably centered specifically around SteamOS itself.
