To be fair though it gets much much smaller each iteration. I have fsr 4 quality on in this game to see how it stacked up against their non temporal solution and it is actually pretty good

Temporal post processing is utilizing multiple frames to give its desired effect. DLSS is a temporal solution to do super sampling. It takes info from multiple frames to increase res. The artifacting that comes with it has to do with really any motion what so ever. Ghosting, shimmering, etc.

Yeah. Pretty much most artifacting to do with main DLSS features comes from the fact it's temporal. It's about the best we can get, cant really do much with non-temporal. But I generally try using non-temporal stuff if I can get away with it, stuff in motion looks far cleaner and more accurate

Far from it. I also wouldnt really consider up scaling to be much of an optimization technique. But some other use cases of temporal shader stuff gets over done too. For example lighting/shading stuff that gets applied to the whole frame near the end of the frame being built when it should be done in the middle stages of building the frame (kinda complex topic, but that'd be optimization stuff for better clarity). What you want is the temporal shaders to be isolated to the very specific thing it's trying to fix rather than the whole frame as it'd make artifacts much less noticable
