iirc Rain-X is designed to fill in the tiny crevices of glass so water just rolls off

Both things you listed did different things
Windex is a cleaner to get rid of oil and such to make glass clean
Rainx is a hydrophobic coating to make water slide off easily
Neither afaik is a lubricant

Meanwhile baby oil is being used as a lubricant I believe

Fun fact, if you want to protect your car frame from rusting too much from road salt, you typically get an undercoat which basically is just an oil to coat the metal to prevent salt and water from sitting on the frame and eating away at it
