the "problem" with regular hybrids is that they require a charge to function, but since you can't charge it via the grid, the car basically runs the engine for a while just for the express purpose of raising the battery voltage

at least for toyotas with their ecvt transmission

so when the battery dies and cant charge anymore, you cant drive a toyota hybrid without alot of shuddering

(this problem also obviously applies for their plug in variant as well, but just with a side benefit of a larger battery capacity and not needing to use the engine just to charge the battery)

though there is one big downside of the toyota hybrids, is that it does not have the ability to use engine power to reverse, as it does not have a reverse gear

it just uses the electric motor to reverse

which is a problem when you need to reverse up a hill and your battery voltages are low

Panther lake is hyper focused for laptops so you aren't going to see cpus of that type on desktop and no they haven't really given a timeline when the next gen desktop cpus are coming

That's gonna be the biggest road block to me upgrading in that case

I'm in a situation where my motherboard limits my usage of my current hardware from being particularly good. I have an alder lake CPU, but it makes no sense to buy a higher end mobo to add PCIe bifurcation, on an old and now discontinued architecture. So if I'm going to spend money on a good motherboard, I should go with a newer gen. But neither the current newest gen from AMD or Intel seem like much of an upgrade/justification for what I do. Just a bit of a rock and a hard place

What exactly is it you do since multi core and gaming performance from both brands have gone up significantly since alder lake/zen3

I'm honestly not looking for much in terms of CPU's. CPU's aren't really that beneficial to what I do, but I need good PCIe, support, and a future path of upgrades if possible. I like panther lake and how it's been looking. Amd's newest chips are a horrible refresh (likely cause Intel hasn't been any competition), but Intel seems to actually be making some damn good chips again

I'm just saying going from a $140 CPU from 5+ years ago to a $400 near top of the line CPU of today, 25% isn't great

For example, my last upgrade was DOUBLE the single core of my previous CPU, and I had it for about the same amount of time as this one (from release)

Super high priced 16 core CPU with higher TDP, boost clocks, and it's biggest selling point, 2x 8core CCD's, BOTH of which have 3D Vcache

I went from a top of the line 7700k to a budget 12600k. Best upgrade ever. That 7700k was ass even a year after it came out

All I really need is a motherboard that supports PCIe bifurcation. If I could find one for my current platform for a reasonable price, I guess I could go with that
