There are three main types of lox, belly lox, Nova lox and mass produced lox. Belly lox is the top tier, most expensive stuff, completely unsmoked and is just cured, comes paper thin and is very salty, Nova lox is cured in a mild brine and cold smoked and mass produced (sometimes just called smoked salmon) stuff is more like Nova lox but more of a focus on the smoke
