ice is inevitable due to the freeze thaw cycle, so you would eventually need to remedy it whether by melting it with salt or using sand for grip, or both

If you are really desperate on getting rid of ice you can make melt by adding a bit of rubbing alcohol and dish soap to a jug of water iirc

We never bothered with salting for ice back home. There'd usually be enough fresh snow that you never actually walked on ice most of the time and later on the climate was so screwed that after a blizzard it'd be too warm to get ice

Actually I take it back, we salted the areas that couldn't get snow on it like right below the door to the porch or beneath an overhang for a door going outside
