I build a lot of machines but they are more midrange machines for resale
so I don't handle a lot of $750+ gpus
in researching how to fit two 5090's into one case, I ran into the fact that nothing fits in 3-slot except the founders
I bought my meshify 2 xl for my 4090 trinity OC
which was a 4 slot BEHEMOTH
well it says 3.5 but that stupid shroud hangs so far down it was like 4+
and now it really looks like I have a 5070 or something
because the card is so small in my case
YO THAT'S MY CASE
Meshify 2 XL?
yeah
because it has 9 expansion slots, I can fit two 5090's
the only requirement is that the motherboard needs to have an x16 in the second-lowest position
what is the pcie bandwidth on that last slot on that motherboard?
I don't deal with many AI workloads (yet) so I am not really well versed in what they need tbh
My company hasn't been AI pilled
only a matter of time I guess
Well, memory is going to become unobtanium in the next few months
Not sure if you heard about OpenAI's contract
but we're gonna get to the point where 32GB is a luxury
So if you want to continue dealing in somewhat high-end builds, you need people who can justify the price
and AI is that
Yes I have looked into it a lot
used 3090 24GB are going to skyrocket even more
have you seen their pricing recently
Nope
they keep INCREASING in value
With memory prices going to increase so much
I don't believe the nvidia super leaks
I don't think nvidia is willingly going to give away more memory in their cards when they're still selling well
lmk if you do 👀
hypothetically what would you price at?
Well I don't discuss selling my stuff in general chat but if you're looking to buy I can discuss in DMs
would also probably be a 'in the next few months' kinda thing for me too, but totally hmu if/when ur ready to sell
what model is it btw?
i have a thing for EVGAs
it's an MSI, but it doesn't have the stock cooler. It's upgraded with an Eiswolf from Alphacool, which is a full-coverage block AIO system with a 360mm rad
it's exactly as I've just described it
full coverage block, so the GPU die, VRAM, power delivery, all watercooled
and it's an AIO system with a 360mm radiator.
It was approximately a $300 cooler
Didn't wanna chance any issues with a $2299 GPU.
fair lol
might be too rich for my blood then, but ya never know ig. maybe i'll hit the lotto
i'm still waiting on northwest repair to fix my EVGA one lol
i'm number 180 or something in queue now
165, i've moved up in the world
at current rate i'll have it repaired by this time next year lol
but i'm in no rush, it is a collector's item that i will probably overclock the heck out of
What is a <$125 thing I can ask for for my birthday? Relating to pcs
monitor mayhaps? or general peripheral stuff. nice SSD. case
mhm i was looking at it through the link in bio
32GB of ram
tbh maybe just like some ram and an SSD
Roomba I forget, do you have micro center
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07Z45XB3G
3600 CL16, very good ram
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-tridentz-rgb-series-32gb-ddr4-3600-cas-latency-cl16-desktop-memory-black/p/N82E16820232906
This is only a couple dollars more and looks nicer
I do not
I don’t quite need 3600
I’m solid with 3200mhz if you find some cheap RGB option
I mean, if you aren't going to use an X3D CPU, then faster RAM and faster infinity fabric helps the whole PC along
and ~1800MHz Infinity Fabric is the guarantee on Zen3
That said if you really want RGB and 3200, let me check
zen 1-3 are really dependent on memory speed
Well it's time for your crash course
Psus and ram are where I blank with recc
I just give everyone tforce
nowadays the newer architecture for zen 4 and 5 make ram speed a lot less impactful
Ryzen runs a ring bus which handles communications between the two chiplets, the I/O die, etc. That's called "Infinity Fabric."
On Zen 3 the default speed for that is 1600MHz. It must be an exact divider of the RAM speed. So if you run 3200MHz RAM, you get 1600MHz Infinity Fabric.
The faster your infinity fabric, the better the entire machine runs.
Zen 3 can typically always handle 1800MHz Infinity Fabric, which is why 3600MHz RAM is extremely popular for Ryzen 5000 series
So giving myself that extra 400mhz per stick, is a good idea compared to just sticking with 3200?
What would be the increase in speed going from 16 to 32gb for 3600?
ram: does it run?
psu: does it not explode my pc?
Well to be fair, with ram I think latency and speed are decently important up to a point
Since you're running both a Ryzen 5000 CPU and a 500 series chipset, yes, 3600MHz would be a great idea
I'm not sure the increase in speed can be quantified across the board, but we're talking a few percent on average in games
up to 3800mhz is usually fine with zen 3 (5000 series)
Interesting
Then Roomba the next thing is, since you don't have 3D V-Cache, the latency is important.
So I’d want cl16
If you had a 5700X3D, I'd say get 3600MHz and get the cheapest, slowest latency possible because it doesn't matter at all
Half Life 3 and the apocalypse will probably happen on the same day
but because you have a regular 5700X, opt for CL16
note that the most common latency on 3600MHz is CL18, because that's exactly 10ns
CL16 is faster than average
Zen 1-3 because of how the infinity fabric and cache is designed makes it very memory dependent. The difference between 2666 and 3000 mhz for zen 1 for example was almost 15% in some games. I remember gamer nexus doing a deep dive back in the day in like 2017
it was crazy
Yep
except some zen 1 chips couldn't handle the 3000mhz speed even though it was like a 15% OC on the IF
like it wasn't even that much over spec
Zen1 was only rated for 2933 on 2 sticks and 2666 on 4 sticks
and being AMD's first DDR4 foray, there wasn't much headroom
wasn't it 2666 on 2 dual rank sticks?
possibly. dual rank sticks were VERY uncommon back then
Bigger capacity ones were and people were running into issues building productivity machines I remember
Yeah which was funny when people were opting for Zen over Intel simply from the fact Zen had 8 cores and Intel only had 6
because when the 1700x launched it was such good value
I think when the 1700x launched intel didn't even have 8th gen launched yet, right?
wasn't that like 5 months later?
no
8th was out
it's 9th that wasn't
1700X launched March 2017
you're right
That's crazy, I swore the 8th gen was out already
nope
People were really jumping ship from 4 core 7700K's
to 8 core 1700x
it was actually an insane time
I talked to a guy who worked for Intel during that timeframe
except people were trying to do lots of ram and their systems would not post because the memory controllers were struggling with the high capacity dual rank sticks
Intel made a lot of stupid choices during that time and even up to now
He said there was palpable panic in the office when Zen launched
because people were trying to do 4 sticks of high capcity ram and even at 2666 the machines were not wanting to post
people were running at 2400 and even 2133 with high amounts of memory
and now that you hammered down the timeframe a bit more it makes sense. "We only have 4 cores, they have 8, what do we do"
someone in the office really said let's make 6 cores
makes sense... the IPC uplift over Bulldozer made AMD a credible threat for the first time in YEARS
well they had the products almost done at the timeframe, last 6 months is usually engineering and QC samples
Not that different from now with Zen4 and Zen5 only supporting 3600MHz DDR5 if you're using 4 sticks
my machine took 75 minutes to train TWO 24GB dimms at 6400mhz
I legit thought it was broken
my friend went "leave it for like 2 hours see if it posts"
it posted once and didn't have an issue until I updated bios and took 35 minutes
had you already updated to latest BIOS beforehand
I don't like updating bios before I do first boot to make sure I didn't break it with bios update tbh
but also, 6400 is a bit rich for AM5
were they EXPO enabled or
Generally should have been fine then
but I will say, if I'm doing a Zen4/Zen5 build I stick to 6000MHz
I don't like playing the silicon lottery
once it trained
it was fine
but good lord
I have a friend that's running 8000mhz dimms (2x16) with his 9900X and I'm like
HOW DID YOU GET IT TO TRAIN AND POST
oh LMAO that's 16GB sticks.
apparently
Infinitely easier
32GB dimms are even easier to run than the 24GB and 48GB ones
apparently zen 4 and 5 really don't like it
Well I bought it for an intel build
Yeah and that's totally fair
intel natively supports 24GB dimms, the 24GB dimms aren't even in my motherboards supported ram list
it's actually kinda silly
I had gotten 48GB of ram because at the time, 32GB kits were still expensive and 64 were unobtanium for decent prices
this was november of 2022
oh so those capacities were NEW
oh yeah the 24GB dimms launched with 13th gen
and the 48GB too
but I'm not running 96GB of ram I have no use
The 48GB was just because it was $30 more than the 32 kit of the same speed
and I figured it'd be better "future proofing" since ddr5 is going to be the standard for a while
to be fair
I bought 32 GB of ddr4 for my i5 8400
and it lasted me through my 12600K
I used it for like 5 years
with a few different platforms
Future proofing: The act of buying more than your use case calls for at the time with the illusion that it will help you at some point in the future, with high probability you will need to upgrade that item anyway down the line.
that's insane.
PSU Ram and SSD's are the only things I tend to overbuy
and I'm willing to bet it was 2666MHz
that must have been pricey
I don't remember how much it was but they were clearance at best buy
they were those gskil aegis kits
I bought 2 kits
you know the ones with those red stickers
Back in 2018, I built a system for my best friend Rich out of a Ryzen 1700X
it was right after the 2700X launched so people were selling their 1700X's for cheap
and I remember buying him 16GB of DDR4-2666 and it was like, $120
my 8400 wouldn't run it at 3000 for some reason but it would at 2933 with no errors it was funny. I then upgraded to 8600K for $115 (low balled someone that upgraded to a 9700x) and it ran
oh no
that's when ram was super expensive
and hard drives too
the 2018 crypto crisis
Yep
Sir that's not an upgrade
they had it listed for 170 I offered them 115 and to be there in an hour and they took it
I went
hell yeah
Sold my 8400 for $120
LOL
The best "trade deal" I've ever had
I managed to get 5.2 ghz on it
but I was running really high vcore
I think it was 1.4
I didn't care I ran that thing until 12600K came out
got a ddr4 board and slapped my ram in there
I had an RTX 4060 on hand which i paid like, $260 for.
Someone I know had contacted me and was like, I really want that for a project I'm working on, can I trade you some parts.
I wound up with an ASRock A520 ITX motherboard, 5700X3D, some Thermalright cooler, and an SFX 850W Cooler Master power supply in exchange for that GPU
He then contacted me back 4 months later and I still had the power supply, and he wanted to buy it. So I sold it to him for $150
mushpang
so I currently have a 5700X3D and ITX motherboard which cost me $110 in the end
those were crazy sold out for a while
nope
then ???
bog standard 4060 from Gigabyte
those 1.5 slot 4060's were legit going for $500 at one point
what's funny is the new price dropped down so low
it was like $210 with rebates at one point
I think it was AMD shotgunning their remaining stock
it's weird though because now they make a 5500x3d and I wonder how much of that is bad 5600x3d/5700x3d stock
tech has been weird like that crazy
micro center receipt
new sealed
insane
🧙♂️
My 4090 when I sold it could've gotten me $200 more than I bought it for 3 years later
but I sold it to a friend for $1400
this was a time when combos were going extra hard at Micro Center
You had to buy a CPU, board, and RAM. But it didn't matter what RAM
I was like ???
That's why there's a 4GB DDR3 stick on the receipt
the cpu goes brand new for $200 how you doing that
that was legit the best value bundle for a long time
heh
$250 I could make a non gaming setup for $400
it was actually kinda crazy
I think I bought 3 of those bundles
I bought a 13700K used for $175 and then traded it to my friend in Florida who had a 12600K. He sent that CPU to me plus $120
so I have a 12600K that cost me $55
I sold my 13700K new in box with the ram that came with my 9800 x3d combo from microcenter
THAT'S HILARIOUS
"how come it's new in box"
"intel sent me a brand new unit because my previous one fried itself"
LMFAO
what about upgrade from 6500 to 6700k
you're a menace

at the time, it would have made sense
yeah would've made a lot of sense
4 cores 4 threads to 4 cores 8 threads, and higher clock speed
right now it would make sense if you had both chips on hand
the 4 threads and the insane like what 500mhz difference was going hard af
intel really used to segment their product stack
but I wouldn't spend any money on a 6700K in 2025
Someone recycling the PC, sure I'd take it
oh I wouldn't buy ANYTHING before 8th gen rn personally
just because of dumb windows 11 requirements. the resale value is absolutely tanked if you are ever planning on reselling it making builds with them
Speaking of Win11
Did you see that Windows 7 usage is up
yeah well if I'm going to be on an unsupported system
people really are being like, "Whatever I'll just use 7"
I might as well use the one I prefer
it's such a bad take for anyone who has an email address
Maybe W8 will see a resurgence
okay so our workplace was a pretty easy migration
because most of our machines are from 2019 or newer
but good lord
if I'm gonna be on an unsupported system, might as well skirt Microsoft's stupid product activation
and use Win2000
a friend showed me a video he works in a big corporate office for a news company
they are legit tossing about 650 office machines
because they're 6th gen intel and don't meet requirements
they're used for basic office work
all going to recycling
it's actually gut wrenching
There needs to be a program in place for these machines to get like, a current copy of Ubuntu
and be provided to impovershed families
is there somewhere i can submit my gpu overclock for a spot in perhaps a record set, i cant find anything online about someone getting more than 3.5ghz on a b580
Yeah like dude like throw mint on there or something because they're legit using word and checking email
what kind of silicon lottery nonsense do you have going on
TS82 what are you on about
im not joking
3DMark has validation for that sort of thing
and i got validated
i think there's hwbot
What frequency are you running
but 3dmark validates results already
I haven't seen anyone I know even get close to 3.5 with a b580
Isn't the boost clock like 2.8??
at that clock speed it's probably almost as fast as a 4060TI
we're gonna start calling it a b590
i guess
my card out of the box boosts to 2.9ghz
I have a B580, should I check what I can OC to
b770 is rumored to be launching in november but we'll see
let's wait
bro razer updated synapse and now occasionally my keys will like lag and press in an alternated pattern and it's rare but I keep getting stuff like claling instead of calling
and it's actually going to drive me insane
and sometimes it's more than just 1 letter apart
I'll say like "ryzen" and it'll be "yzern"
or it's double pressing keys randomly
razer also exploits a windows security vulnerability
it hijacks windows to insert a popup when you plug a razer peripheral into a pc that hasn't installed synapse
do you want me to run steel nomad on mine
oh that's for older stuff btw
sure idm
the newer stuff comes pre loaded with the installer!
Bro if i had a 9800x3d i could get a higher score
like my viper ultimate if I plug it into a computer
that's even worse
asks if I want to run the installer

it's literally like part of the wireless dongle or plugging the mouse in
malware activities
the any cpu chart says im in top 22%
they have it actually loaded
My blackwidow v3 pro was purchased in 2020
a wireless dongle that has some storage
and I swaer synapse is ****ing me up to drive me insane and to get me to upgrade
that's just asking for trouble
think it's communicating with the mouse
ah
plugging it in with the mouse off doesn't do anything
that would make sense too
the mouse has onboard storage for transferring profiles between multiple devices
it's actually super handy for my laptop
that's cool tho
yeah it's actually the reason I got the mouse
im just upset by the synapse shenanigans
the dock is the wireless key and it also has a standalone usb key too
it's actually really well designed and feels so good
and then synapse be making me go insane
I also really like my keyboard even though I got it on a best buy clearance
I think it was like $220 down to $140
held up great even after 5 years
I have no wear on any of the keys
it's actually kinda eery
although the volume knob has ceased to work properly
i dislike being forced to install software, especially so if it's crap
both ways I scroll turns down the volume
okay and tell me why
synapse needs to update every 2 weeks
because yes
and wants to restart my computer
and if I don't do it
my mouse won't do my custom sensitivity settings
every 2 weeks they want to find a way to make you suffer
it goes to default stepping
and one of the steps is 20,000 DPI
like
if It's at 20,000 I legit can't move the damn cursor anymore
because a mouse software is apparently in need of constant updates
okay I will say
games that are compatible with synapse
are super cool too
like doom having the health bar as the function key lights?
that's cool af
Glad I stopped using razer
too bad the software experience is subpar
The software crutch is annoying
that's really my sole problem with razer
but their stuff is always on woot
they're really like apple imo
a lot of the stuff is good quality but that pricing
is like
literally just to show off
a midrange mechanical keyboard should not be $200
My sisters red dragon one was $70 and has so much nicer switches that it makes me sad sometimes
bro speaking of the devil
my mouse stopped working and I went ??? it's because synapse crashed
Razer products were really really good 15-20 years ago
My C3 Pro from Keychron being under $40 on sale is a testament to this
Well, Alienware used to be good too.
Before Dell got them and well, yeah
I guess, same thing applies to Omen before HP bought VoodooPC
yeah it should be $500

hello my name is asus
"You looked at it funny, so your warranty is void"
"your pcb has wear, warrenty void"
You know what really grinds my gears
Companies are allowed to deny warranty if you are not the original purchaser
This is the sole reason I recommend that nobody ever buy someone else a Playstation as a gift
Sony is allowed to, at its discretion, decide that they don't have to honor the warranty if you didn't buy the Playstation
it's in their warranty terms
So you get a PS5 for Christmas and it stops turning on for some reason in February
you're cooked
They would deny warranty for any reason they can get away with legally
correct
Yep
(it was 2018) they were adamant about the warranty void if removed stickers
it took a very threatening letter from the FTC to sony and microsoft for them to stop pulling that with the consoles
they don't put explicit language on the consoles anymore, but still use detectors to see if you've been inside
so the moss warranty act was primarily designed for cars, and this was one of the compromises with the car industry at the time, and it's never been fixed since then
the fact that most of our warranty law is from 1975 still is insane
50 years
it's been changed very little since then
that's because the economy has been in a slow spiral since then
car industry didn't like the idea of people being able to sell the car and they have to be still liable to fix it
although, this isn't specific persons, it's the entity that buys it
so if you buy it as like a company, or jointly buy it (like a couple joint buying a car), any one that's of that party can get it serviced
it just screws individuals in particular
but to be fair a lot of big companies at the time would just take their fleet to the dealerships for major issues anyways so it's not like it's that impactful
and it's great that the law was for all warranties even though it was aimed at vehicles because that would've gotten a lot more distopian
yet companies still do it all the time

to be fair i dont think the current ftc cares
that was trumps FTC in his first term that did it
but now we got a clown in on the second term
I also miss lina khan
she actually fined and strong armed a lot of people
god king trump of the levant
I think a lot of people were like blindsided by how surprisingly competent his administration was in his first term
a lot of people that like still knew how to do their jobs and had a experience
and assumed this time would be like that time but there was literally warning signs it wasn't going to be
There has been a huge shift between pre-covid and after, and im talking everybody
Yeah there definitely has
i honestly can't believe how wild a lockdown had significant effects on one's psyche
only reason why the administration was so competent is they put like experienced republican policy makers in the cabinet and a lot of them refused to do what they were asked
and now it's just friends
well I think most of it boils down to the lack of public infrastructure and the entire culture and economy being centered around traveling
hmm
A lot of people I knew were figuring out how to cook for the first time during covid

A lot of the U.S. just doesn't cook at home and gets food out, you'd be surprised the ratio
Yeah america eats out a crazy amount compared to most countries
even like sit down restaurants
actually Idk if it's we love sugar
or if it's everything has sugar so we are accustomed to it
Went exactly to plan for the unelected officials
I feel like this got way worse this decade
Well to be fair if it's just you all the stuff you want to make is fir 4 to 6 people 😅
😔
well actually it was peaking during early 2000's and has not returned to that level consistently since then
in my area people get road rage just trying to get into a drive thru sometimes
I am going to let you guys know
Politics are a big no-go
ever since the big health scare
eu plans to start rolling out the digital euro late this year
im unsure if i can get surprised at this point
goodbye freedom
I remember mcdonalds even had to cut super size during the big health scare thing
wat
I’d suggest steering into dms to talk about anything political due to current climate
Climate is pretty hot
🔥
It's sad that talking about like factual stuff in politics can cause huge fires now
I remember like pre 2014 era it was a lot more civil to try and discuss things
It’s an unfortunate reality. The divide has been super-accelerated by social media.
This "divide" is by far one of the most unhinged this era, im honestly surprised the country didn't implode yet
💀
It's hard knowing where the line is since everything is that
Obama and the whitehouse getting an official twitter accounts I think was a turning point for the whole country
it intermingled politics and social media
Yeah.
istg one day we will find a way to have our pets send tweets via a neuralink equivalent
funny enough I think a lot of the country is reuniting like in 2018 but we'll see, I see a path to healing
Politics should’ve stayed similar to how they always have. Don’t do stupid shit, or get removed
But I digress
It's now a "who can be more stupid and get away with it"
I have to sign into my ATT account on my ATT router
I think the world would be a better place if xbox controllers stop using batteries
Oops I meant modem
I use my own router
Account for the modem
same
Don’t forget about your separate att actual account for your phone
Really stupid
thankfully the only phone I use with ATT is a landline connection
and yes I still have a landline
I think we should go back to paper letters
I want to hear about what @rancid juniper did three weeks ago right now

I CANT CATCH JOKES ON THE NET
The joke is that mail communication takes a while
My official sticker for Newegg btw
ah
@median kelp did I accidentally tag you a few weeks ago
And that started your entry here lmao
I think you or someone else said congrats on the 5090
I wasn't very active here for a while
I had just updated my flair
game development
No the "We're trying I swear" era
er
8th gen was them trying going "OH NO" and "LOOK MORE CORES BUY US PLS"
ya like quad cores?
okay fr though
cmon just one more 14nm wouldn't hurt
WHAT
like people that had just bought 7th gen were so mad at coffee lake
like
FUMING
it was quite funny
intel is trying to get amd to start making its chips in intel's fab
well apparently 18a is going to have good performance
the only issue was they didn't have a major customer for it
and now nvidia wants to be said customer
if that happens the irony is going to be off the charts
AMD might use it for their budget line
but of course, nvidia just bought 5% of intel
will intel underdeliver this time???
PLACE YOUR BETS FOLKS
nvidia is going to use 18a and because of that they'll have enough funding for it
they'd naturally want to use intel's fabs
nvidia dropped like 5 billion into intel
aint like 90%+ tech rely on TSMC?
yes
actually wild
but intel's 18a is apparently good
samsung has a really big share for automotive and stuff especially in korea
they just lack the customers
and the country itself
company sucked everything
😂
nvidia is buying thousands upon thousands of 18a cpus now
you don't need power efficient chips for automotive
because cars do not need cutting edge performance
they just need to work for 10 years or more
the issue with intel and samsung is that they can get you good performance
ok, android 7's your car
just at a lot less efficiency
and I mean a lot less
TSMC is just too cutting edge and they are charging an arm and a leg for those wafers now
50% increase each time they make a new node is causing cracks
what does intel 18a promise though, like last i remember was Pat (former CEO) gushing about it
samsung is a huge conglomerate
at some point you stop going for bleeding edge
it does everything good except for bleeding edge semiconductors
and modems
exynos modems are just atrocious
fullconductors when
18a is going to be about on par (slightly below) N3P
which is tsmc's 3nm node
they just made 2nm
so it's not going to be like super cutting edge
so its like a hybrid of sorts?
but it's predicted to cost 40% less than tsmc 3nm node per wafer
which is HUGE
like flabbergastingly huge
so intel going cheap
like if you don't need 2nm for phones and stuff
well for the consumers
🗿
yeah tsmc said
"88% global marketshare on chips?"
haha watch this
nvidia already went samsung once for ampere
INFINITE MONEY GLITCH
and is currently going samsung for their lighter consumer products
like some SOCs and things like the switch 2
any consumer chip already on the 2nm node?
things that don't need that insane power efficiency and density
orders just opened up 2 months ago
and then you have to put them in devices
i think the highest nm chip i ever used was problem a 90nm pentium 4 laptop iirc
majority was like 45nm/32nm, how far we've come is crazy
now running a 10nm desktop and a 4nm laptop
wow
but 18a will pull more power than n3e so I don't see it being used for mobile besides laptops
well
it'll also pull slighlty more than samsungs 3nm node too
which is closer to tsmc n3e
samsung just launched that 3nm node too
tsmc is just too fair ahead
also .8 nm is the theoritical limit of silicon atoms rn so I wonder when we going to try something else
there's no way to make it smaller than 4 silicon atoms without quantum tunneling issues that silicon has
and silicon atoms are .2 nm
actually insane
yeah
we have made cpus using carbon nanotubes
which have a much lower floor
but the last cpu made was a 16bit cpu for testing
to do proof of concept
we have no way of doing really small processes
bismuth is really promising too
Yeah that’s what happened
bismuth has nearly unstoppable electron flow resistance so you won't get quantum tunneling issues
oh and will be like
15x more power efficient than silicon transistors
only issue is
figuring out how to actually
sculpt it
current lithography techniques will not work

Heya people, I have a problem with a laptop. My friend gave me it and I tried powering it on, but during loading it leads me to 0xc0000185, it's a windows 8.1 and honestly from what I read I have no idea what to do or how to fix it
From what I also heard from the laptop during startup is 3 hefty beeps, not coming from the speakers.. just simply them being there. Also while it tried to boot up windows, it always gave a feint clicking sound which was in a rythym
Anyone knows how to fix that?
Or is it cooked?
Sounds like a drive problem
Also install windows 7 on that thing y u usin 8.1😭
It aint me bro it's his laptop
Can you elaborate perhaps?
Like does it mean it's up to trash?
From what I checked the eufi does read the hdd fully
I mean surely it's a drive issue, like I don't know if feint clicking is natural in hdds
it is not
Like
What kind of clicking
HDDs make noise from spinning the platter and the heads jumping around
Though only when it's accessing data or writing kt
It
Idk how to explain it
It's more of a 5x beep and a click
Then a small break and same thing
rip for hdd
ahh thats normal
especially when its over 100 outside
just realized the system requirements for Megabonk on steam
Suspicious
Well I assume accesing since it wants to boot up windows, no?
if it's beeping and clicking and disk is not spinning , means head stuck on platter and platter can't turn
head crash.😕
sometimes it works if you open it up and move head back to its place to but not always
The disk spins tho?
Like I can hear it whirr up and slow down then
Then wouldn't the error code be different?
From what I read it means "crashed boot files/BCD"
Everything after the first “?” Can be deleted
to good to be true
including the ?
That too
alr
That rings true with a lot of links
it's also a scam anyways
Guess who got a free old iMac because someone “thought it was running too slow”
2015
that's pretty old
I have a old imac sitting in the basement cuz its too slow
Seems fine to me
So far
It has suddenly tanked.
Hm
so my computer should run it fine
In what way?
If it's suddenly hanging the 2015 models often came with fusion drives
it's a ssd hdd hybrid drive which were popular in the 2015-2018 time frame as a cost compromise
and the fusion drives were known to start failing
It took 1m 38s to open the photos app with nothing else running
It might be the fusion drive
or it may just be the base model if the standard HDD
HDD/SDD hybrid drives were always finnicky imo
ai generated gaming pc setup is such a strange thing
As soon as I can get back to it, I’ll find out the model
I remember back in the day some people were defusing the fusion drives in software too to just use the SSD portion for insane loading times. 1TB model got 32GB SSD and I think 2/3 Got like 64 or 128
Marketing is frothing at the mouth
proper respirator is anywhere from like 50-100 dollars
and many professionals even use the forced air ones that cost like $1.5k per unit
disposable masks are like pennies
its not that its just us being told its sufficient lol
thank you unelected officials
it's better than nothing but not as good as a reusable one
you saved our lives
i've seen people in public use their work respirators out in public

at least during the pandemic
now not really
rural portions of the state I lived in at the time literally sent letters to the gov. that they would not be requiring them despite state law
it was a whole mess
The state patrol was sent down 💀
I do not miss that era
I was clinging to my 2060 like crazy
then I got an EVGA FTW 3070 at $100+ msrp (619.99) and I jumped on it so fast
and then literally on launch of the 3080 12GB I got it for the msrp of $799.99 and sold my 3070 for $900 it was insane
like actually insane time
The gpu shortage was WILD
i had a rx570
I got that particular 2060 for $215 used like 3 months after launch. Person I bought it from said they couldn't stand how loud it was
it was a ventus 2x card
and oh my lord
damn
repasting it didn't help. New pads didn't help
somebody bought a ventus 2x 2060 for 400 💀
it would hit 87c and 95% fan speed with any game
it was insane
people were selling 3070's for almost a grand
That card was LOUD
I had a bequiet sound dampening case at the time
I couldn't even hear my air cooler at max speed
but that thing?
@velvet summit so there's nothing I can do?
GOOD LORD how was it louder than blower style cards
I think they went with 0 mass on the cooler and just went with as much airflow through the tiny cooler as possible
laptop mentality
Dawg 🥀
so it'll read both as 1TB HDD you'll have to see the actual specific drive
you either have the 1tb HDD or 1TBB SHD
Technical specifications for the iMac "Core i5" 2.3 21.5" (Mid-2017). Dates sold, processor type, memory info, hard drive details, price and more.
oop that's the fusion drive
I know nothing about Macs
It’s running under APPLE HDD under device name
if you do the apple serial lookup it should tell you exact specs
to see if you have the fusion HD in there
they'll both be called HDD iirc
apple didn't differentiate them in software
Can you send the lookup tool? I’m seeing jus a bunch of random websites for it
https://checkcoverage.apple.com/?locale=en_US this might be it
Check your Apple warranty status. Enter a serial number to review your eligibility for support and extended coverage.
Kill me
this should give you device information too
Dm @median kelp
Man I swear my new iPhone has a bad WiFi receiver or something because it’s constantly losing signal if I’m watching a video
I think at the time the fusion drives were only available as higher end options
$200 more
It seems I just have the normal drive
But it is a 2017 model
Ouch, that’s a lot
$200 for a 256gb ssd for the Fusion Drive
Fusion drives were known to fail a lot too
the ssd portion would break down because of controller issues
causing hanging as it failed to access cache and restorted to HDD after cache was unreadable
You'd end up with a drive with slower access times than the standard HDD
ok, I'm sending a you QMB Technologies TND-31-S High-precision Thermonuclear Explosive Device, with Radius Control (tm) to ensure that only the target you want destroyed, gets destroyed. It also featured PrecisiGuide(tm) technology, which offers sub-centimeter precision with your shots.

Yeah ventus cards suck
5060 ti is also worse than everyone else
I would not try to fix it yourself. If you have important stuff on there please send to data recovery service
If you don't have a clean room and don't know what you're doing
things like a spec of dust can obliterate your HDD once opened
Ohh
But how can you be sure if it's a head crash?
Wouldn't a head crash mean the whole hdd would be undetected?
I would think it could be detected as long as the controller isn't damaged but if a head or platter is broken it could make it unreadable
but im no drive expert
maybe
@median kelp is there a reason why it’d be failing to update?
Gets 1/3 of the way then crashes.
No the controller has a small amount of firmware on it (usually like 32MB) that allows it to communicate
Beats me tbh
So it'll detect but not be able to see any properties or anything
I’m on my way
W, W
All because of a sudden shutdown during windows' shutdown? 😭
Aight, thanks for explaining a bit tho
So best is to hand the laptop to a repair shop and wait what they say?
yeah unfortunately im not great at diagnosing issues
Appears neither am I
It's going to be a long talk with my friend 😭
Yes hard cutting off power to a drive that is spinning has a chance to permanently damage it
mustachio HDD
Japanese company brings back GPU mirror display, for those who think their card deserves more attention Nagao Manufacturing has brought back one of its most unusual PC accessories: the Graphics Card Mirror Display (model NB-VGA-MIRROR). Okay but in modern era this is kinda dumb
The point of it back in the day is you had these designs with characters on it
Everyone was doing that gamer look
Now it's just modern minimalist
yea
Companies like yeston that current day versions of the design look
Do it on the back plate now
Need focusing lens, turn rgb gpu fans into deadly lasers
😧 bro nahh
There's no safety option on laptops for this
It's a quirk of spinning drives themselves not the laptop
There's many reasons we have moved from hard drives

hmm should I get asrock mobo
prank your friends, give them an asrock mobo
@median kelp the mac just turned to Spanish wtf
it has decided that you speak spanish now
Ngl all my customers pcs have been using asrock boards, no problems
I manually set bios values so maybe thats why

Even on old bios no problems
Nah man even from pcs from over a year ago
I have no issues so far too
Asrock boards are very good value, which is why I kept using them
been like half a year so far

I have a suspicion that they override user inputs
I wanted to get one of those asus proart mobos but tbh I think im gonna keep my pc as a simple gaming machine and spend the extra on a mac for productivity
And why's that
Did you observe something
I haven't had any problems with settings values at all, the board listens, using hwinfo to check
