Imo prusa has really good community, software, and reusability. Instead of buying a whole new printer you can just get an upgrade kit. They have pretty open ecosystem that is modding friendly

I think you can heat up silica to dry it. I didn't know that until after I read the bottle of silica I had, after I threw out wet silica, that you can apparently microwave it to dry it out

I'm assuming the water dissipates when the silica is heated

If you have a spare SSD, you can get an enclosure for it and use it as a normal external drive (pretty much exactly what you're looking for if you already have a drive). Otherwise, just buy some random (but good) 2.5" hard drive and get an enclosure for it

I prefer this over just buying a hard drive because I at least know the reliability of the drive itself. The price of building your own external drive and buying one are marginally the same

Personally I would go the M.2 NVMe route just because it's faster

Ohhh you meant external vs internal? I don't think speed would make much of a difference if you went the hard drive route (or SATA in general). If you were using an NVMe SSD, the speed would be limited by the USB portion of the drive
