My brother threw out a handful of PS3 controls because of that. We had like four PS3 controllers and he tried charging all of them with a single cable. He said "yeah they weren't charging so I just threw them out". And yes he threw them out. So we basically have a PS3 and no way to play it because he decided to not consult me before throwing the controllers away

Ok it's unlikely to be southbridge at all.
What it is going through is gpu via 'hana' encoder straight out the hdmi, which makes better sense
Southbridge is the microsoft "PSB"
It's sort of away from all that, going back through it would also be a latency hit and delay for the game itself unnecessarily
What's more likely is a loose solder connection that's sensitive to heat, whether it's the cgpu, encoder, or hdmi itself
Or the encoder itself just running too hot for it's own good
Try putting a little heatsink on the hana encoder
