The Japanese are having this exact problem. Their population is aging too fast for their systems to keep up so it is crumbling

you just built this whole infrastructure in education to keep up with demand, if you don't have kids to occupy those schools you will have to close them down and consolodate resulting in many lost jobs

Life be like:

• Single: difficult
• Have boyfriend/girlfriend: actually surprisingly easy and y'all can move in together once y'all each have borderline livable wages (adding those "borderline wages" together makes life somewhat livable)
• Having kids: difficult
• Having kids with the proper income: doable
