If you're trying to make smth aesthetically pleasing, you still go through various design processes before and during modeling. You also need to care about topology and optimizing triangle counts. There also be rigging, kinda separate from modeling/sculpting and animation. So it usually kinda is pain unless you're doing smth basic or not trying to do stuff in a professional manner.
