Well neither am I
It's just what I see and think based on that
Hopefully I'll be right
I have a rudimentary understanding of the math behind AI and a rudimentary understanding of GPU architecture
and that rudimentary understanding leads me to believe that AI workloads aren't as easy to specialize as crypto with ASICs
I sure would like to return to times when PCs are actually affordable again
but that understanding is... rudimentary
My reasoning is that the bigwigs will always pursue performance
And eventually squeezing that last tiiiiny bit will lead to specialized hardware
and not needing a significant memory pool beyond DAG size
Technically speaking
so that should be easier to specialize
Static chip architecture is a severe limitation to a "true" self-evolving AI
machine learning uses many different types of calculations
and needs more memory buffer
like you gotta be able to accommodate step functions, ReLU, PReLU, softmax, cross entropy, etc
convolutional layers
It's probably gonna take a while
different architectures
But I do think that there's gonna be some evolution leading to GPUs no longer being the hardware of choice for AI applications
I can definitely see specialized silicon for the top end but I think it'll be too complex to be worth making anything midrange
I look forward to being wrong though
All Imma say is
but even if AI stops putting more demand on GPUs
I think if nvidia is the same price, I'd probably.. get nvidia I guess?
there could be more things that want cheap general compute power
But the thing is, a mem oc can unleash the GRE's non-rt perf
If you care about efficiency a lot, then it makes sense
well
Depends what you want really
If you really care about RT then naturally Team Green
And power draw is lower with green team
The price is usually higher for a given perf tier tho
if they're the same price/perf, same vram at the same price, etc. then nvidia is kind of the obvious choice, radeon competes by offering better price/perf or more vram or whatever
it's just like
how long can they keep doing that
there's eventually going to be a turning point where more gamers care about RT than not
can radeon catch up in RT in time?
radeon makes some fantastic hardware but the difference in software stack is immense
I don't think it's a sustainable strategy to compete purely on hardware forever
You need to develop games with a focus on RT
radeon has relive right?
It's also kinda better
haven't tried it though so not sure how it is
I haven't tried that too
I did
But shadowplay is ez
It's based
this will eventually become the norm
we don't know when
Yes it will
all I'm saying is the current strategy radeon is using is not sustainable long term
But it is likely to take a long time
I don't even think it will be that long
wouldn't be surprised if it's within a decade
Every dev would need to write whole new game engines that are focused on RT
so like what 4-5 gpu gens?
Writing a new game engine is a lot of work
More like 3 since we don't get new gens every year now
isn't path tracing easier than traditional raster? it's just seen as extra work right now due to raster being more important
It is
I know traditional raster has to use a lot of hacks to optimize performance
I blame lack of optimization and maturity of hardware
I've done some
damn I want to take grad level computer graphics course now lol
I took undergrad upper div computer graphics
Nvidia has a good point
I took a grad level machine learning course that was difficult but it was pretty fun
But they also flip us all off by making subpar geforce gpus
we had to implement machine learning algorithms from scratch instead of using prebuilt libraries
to really gain an understanding of how they work
Technically yes
But you need to fundamentally rewrite your game engine for it to work
ue5 already has extensive support
I really don't think we're that far away
will traditional raster still be the primary rendering technique in 10 years?
It's really not that extensive RT
It's still based on raster fundamentally
I mean if you want to utilize all properties of RT
Your game engine becomes incompatible with raster
and then charging absurd prices for them
heck we're already able to inject rt into old games by hijacking draw calls lol
Game studios won't transition to fully RT-based game engines until the overwhelming majority of the playerbases are running RT hardware
Which will take time
Especially with how squeezed people's wallets are lately
yeah but do you think it will be more than 10 years
hardware capable of some form of RT is already affordable
It mostly depends on the spending power and willingness of end users
people are even talking about hardware RT in phone chips lol
You don't need "some form" tho
You need prime RT for it to really work
yes
Think from the game dev studio's POV
but it makes sense to continue in the same trajectory
traditional GPU cores don't become obsolete either, you can still use them for RT calculations in a fully RT game
so it's not like you would have to wait for 5090s to disappear from the usage charts
You can make 3 types of game engine
-Pure raster
-Mixed raster+RT
-Pure RT
Nobody will make a new game engine pure raster in this age, but old game engines are largely made with that (yes you can mod it but that's a mod not engine-level)
And making a pure RT engine carries the risk that a large portion of potential players can't use it due to not having good RT hardware who then make a ruckus online and bomb your ratings
So you're effectively forced to make mixed engines, but mixed engines have major performance penalties for RT
we even have igpus with hardware RT acceleration
yeah I understand this
It really hinges on nGreedAI
I'm just saying that a breakpoint for pure RT to become viable is probably not that far away
If they made a 60 class GPU be able to deliver 75+ fps in RT at 1080p for 250 bucks
And a 70 class GPU that's able to deliver 80+ fps in RT at 1440p for 350 bucks
That transition would be FAST
look how fast the 5700xt became unsupported in a game due to missing features lol
only took like 4 years for a game to come out that the 5700xt couldn't even launch
But nGreedAI will never do that because then they're "only" raking in sizable profits instead of mind-bendingly large ones
I mean those prices are just not reasonable with inflation existing no?
60 class was already $300 in 2016
why would it get cheaper over time?
3060 was like
See?
Okay make it 300 then
4060 is like 450 MSRP isn't it?
Was it really 33% inflation form one gen to another?
adjusted for inflation the 1060 MSRP is 390 now
so the 60 class has gotten cheaper over time technically
companies often overstate inflation to increase prices it seems like
the lack of perf uplift is what's disappointing
now there's an argument to be made that the current 60 class isn't a real 60 class...
but i guess
The issue is that the 60 class name is 50 class perf now
4000 series is a major scam aside from 4090 in terms of perf
ehhh in terms of % of the flagship maybe
4060 is still a decent generational uplift over 3060 though, it's not like it got weaker
$300 4060
My point is that
yes, nvidia is being greedy
but I don't think we should expect a $250 60 class gpu in 2034
The 60 class needs to actually deliver the perf in RT to actually trigger the switch
I'm not so optimistic
I am fully expecting nGreedAI greed to just hold up the status quo, do an Intel and just suck up the money while not innovating
technically the 4060 can already deliver "60 fps" in path traced cyberpunk
the word technically pulling a lot of weight there

delicious frame gen
I do wanna say you could probably get a good experience even without FG if you were able to like, path trace medium settings or something
iirc path tracing forces all settings to max?
but in a world where path tracing is the default there would have to be lower settings with path tracing
so we're actually really not that far off from a relatively affordable 60 class being able to path trace 60 fps...
The timing of microsoft on this is stupendous.
https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-wants-you-to-switch-from-local-to-microsoft-account-using-its-official-guide/
And the bus width hurts it
yeah we'll see some higher chip densities from gddr7 so hopefully that will alleviate the issue
32Gb chips would mean 16GB vram on 128-bit bus or 24GB on 192-bit
even 24Gb would be a big help and that's likely to be available pretty quickly since we have 24Gb DDR5
it's gonna become obsolete already lol
ye but
If 4050 is obsolete then 3060m is which is wrong
6 gigs vram is noticeable
24Gb chips would mean 12GB on 128-bit and 18GB on 192-bit
tbf i don't care about maxing out either
ok but here's the thing
what else would you have gotten
at the time
what other options did you have at the same price in the same environment
but i guess you guys were right
Considering it needs work that's not bad
hardware is always going to age
it was all 4050's
you can't just regret buying something looking at new stuff coming out
i didn't have a choice
unless like
Solar crown has mad frame pacing instability
you bought it the day before lol
It's not optimised yet
i guess i have fomo again
If it was then it would have better system spec reqs.
your 4050 eventually becoming obsolete doesn't mean it was a mistake to purchase at the time
when i really shouldn't
all hardware eventually becomes obsolete
good point
imagine being an enthusiast in the 90s
The gaming industry almost got me I guess
when you can buy absolute top end and it becomes ewaste in 3 years
Believing I should feel bad
and the top end was legit more expensive back then too
💀
Imagine paying $3000 for top end pc
buy a CPU, next year its obsolete
Only for it to become uselessly slow soon after
$3999 in 1995 dollars is over 8k now
Gaming I think is actually cheaper than 20 years ago
imagine shelling out 8k for top of the line and after 3 years you can barely browse the web
imagine all them 95/98 machines when windows xp came out
There's an old article from like, 1978
8K pc
Anyway I eep
Costs more than a house deposit at the time
Enough worrying about ma laptop
💀
oh boy did you get a whole 256kb hard drive with it
seems like a lot of inflation for not many decades
a lot of it is probably more recent
the fact that modern CPUs have more cache than HDDs originally had total capacity is funny
a silly little thing happened in 2008
and then another silly little thing happened in 2019
yeah, "The Great Recession" and the "Coronapocalypse"
said silly little things could be possibly described as not generally good for the economy
2019 felt worse
i didn't feel the impact much
lol I was 10 in 2008 I had no idea what a recession even was let alone that we were in one
back then my dad still had a ton of cash
I was saving up for my first gaming PC then... working at a Six Flags park
I remember the pain of running ddr3 850m
4050 is such a godsend
what PC was I running in 2008? I do not know
I know what I had in 2004 and I know what I had 2011 onwards
but 2008? I do not know
in 2008 I was on a 1.8 GHz Pentium 4 with 512 MB RAM
I remember my PC from 2004 was definitely gone by 2008
it was absolute misery
My first pc was like 2015 💀
jumped from that to Core i7 920 overclocked to 4 GHz, and 12 GB of RAM
actually
wait
no it was in 5th grade when we tossed it
so I guess I was still using that PC in 2008
Before that I used what my parents had, idek what they had in 2009, like some 2gb ddr2 pc
💀
I remember it started blue screening at some point
mine was in like 2004ish
and my parents accused me of getting a virus on it
but I legit didn't download anything cause all I wanted to do was play maplestory lol
Super Socket 7, 64 MB RAM, ATI Rage 128 graphics
prob just a hardware failure of some sort
I still have that thing
I guess we had pretty similar specs in 2008 then
2009 I went to that
I mean the old home pc is still here. I think my parents got it in like 2006
💀 2gb ram
Ddr2
Radeon HD 4890 was an absolute monster of a video card in 2009
like you have no idea lol
I'd have to find details but I had some kind of pentium 4
I think it’s a gtx 260
HD 4890 would have crushed that thing
Apparently amd had driver issues back then
I remember visiting my cousin and his pc had 512mb ram and it felt noticeably slower
yes but not to the point of being too much of a problem for gaming
it might've also had slower CPU/GPU/disk though I don't know lol
all I knew was ram capacity
I think the most demanding game my parents played on it was league 💀
When it came out
ah I found it
also in 2009 ish it was still called ATI Radeon IIRC
gateway profile 5.5 was my first pc
damn if the review units were 512mb I guess my parents shelled out for 1gb upgrade
it was an all in one and they knew nothing about computers so pretty sure they didn't upgrade it themselves lol
Idk when it’s from but it’s ddr2 so it’s probably from mid 2000s
so I had a pentium 4 with 2.8-3.2ghz?, 1gb ddr-400 probably?
that was one of the later Pentium 4s so decent at least
seems they came with an ATI radeon X300
I’ve seen the pc ik it’s some gtx card with 1 fan, and 2gb ddr2, idk the cpu
not sure if I had that or just integrated though
early Pentium 4 with Rambus would have been painful
I only played a single 2d game on it lol
The motherboard is also from a brand that doesn’t exist anymore
Albatron
yeah it was bought in 2004 yours sounds more like 2001-2002 era pentium 4
I remember they bought it for me as a reward for winning some math competition at age 6 lmao
so I remember the exact year
cause I was 6 in 2004
late 2004
Radeon X300 lol
Pretty sure my parents got it before I was born or maybe a lil after
yeah I mean look at the pc
It’s just a metal office pc type case
But I think it’s like custom prebuilt not oem
There’s no brand
this thing having a dgpu at all is surprising
mine was a similar era but was a laptop Pentium 4... so honestly probably even worse than early desktop ones
idk how much better this all in one would be over a laptop
wouldn't be surprised if it was thermal throttling from playing maplestory lol
yeah Intel is definitely hurting rn lol
It kinda looks like this
it's not that much more volume than a thick early 2000s laptop body methinks
80gb hard drive damn I was a baller 6 year old
i dont think thermal throttling was a thing back then
there is
"Problem I’ve had is that Gateway closed off all of the ventilation for the flat panel, so they burn out quickly."
lol maybe that's why mine started blue screening in 4 years
100% there was
I remember watching a video about this from 2001
ah ok wasnt sure exactly when it was introduced
p3 era lacked thermal throttling
even some pentium 3s had emergency thermal shutdown
and pentium 4s had good enough throttling to continue running without a cooler
not well... but running
might be thinking of Athlons of the era not having it then
didn't athlon of that era just
From Toms hardware, around 2005, this video is very old.
What happens when a CPU heatsink is removed.
have fun
this video is aggressively early 2000s lmao
I think so yes
that's an oldie LOL
the music is amazing
i watched it too
yup
AMD was behind on that
The music of computers crashing
you can watch the AMD chips going up in smoke in that vid
while the intel chips survive
really cool of AMD to recreate that throwback in 2023
fumo import traveling to me lol
crispy critters
Jesus
Duron: Thermite edition
the cpu legit exploded
I bet you'd get a similar result with a modern CPU if you somehow put 100v into it
They overclock a cpu over 4ghz, remove the heatsink, and boom! "Theres a hole in the motherboard!"

well
I wouldn't say that
we had someone here a few weeks ago wonder why their new CPU/board was shutting down
they thought it was defective
it effectively had no cooler on it lol
they tried to jerry rig their aio with intel mounting onto amd board and uh... did not achieve contact
lol
I need some help with deciding what monitor I want
I am currently using a 6+ year old mag27c that is 1080p. The smearing is pretty bad so I am looking for something not expensive, but I don't know what a 24'' 1080p monitor is like
Ive gotten used to how 1080 27'' is like. Something I thought was that I would have the 24'' closer to me which would result in the same experience
Is that true?
When I play siege once in a while and hold an angle I tend to get closer to the monitor
and man does it look fuzzy
Quick question: does discord support av1 decoding?
I have no clue bruh this app is just datamining us fr
💀
What gpu do you have
You'd likely want 1440p 27"
Remember when Google used reddit comments to train their AI? Wonder how it'd go with discord comments
6600
Something else I was thinking but I also have a 1080p capture card so I guess I would have to use my console at 1080p or something idk

Anybody else notice Youtube is like, unusable as of late?
Horrible loading times, site crashes, videos randomly jumping around several minutes for no reason, dropped frames, enture site disconnections, blacked out video, choppy audio. Iterally unusable half the time and I have no idea why
Bocchi fumo is real
only when not using their mobile app....
yeah kinda sus whats going on with their website
Its horrible
Watching a video, 17 seconds in, jumps to 6:34 for NO REASON
then the site starts dying when I try to go back
They either fix it, or people are going to start breaking ToS en masse... just like what happened with adblockers
most likely from a billion trackers in the page tbh
Yes
Encode and decode
But everyone in that discord call needs to have av1 available
That's the catch
oof
How wonderful
I've located a super-secret picture from HW Unboxed's next Computex coverage video
I need to break the physics of Skyrim. Apparently you can do that with FPS because it ties physics to it... hmm
Ok
So
Either I’m dumb or
Smth cuz I can’t remove this door handle
When I used to work construction 😭
Nvm I got it
Broke it out
Just turn off vsync and run it with anything above 60fps. It also is tied in with scripting and the ai
So lip movements will play out at different speeds and animations will too
Meaning enemies can have the zoomies
Actually, the zoomies may be a Fallout thing, I haven't checked with Skyrim
@dusk knot I won’t spoil
But final final mission fricks
I already saw it lmao. But I'll buy the dlc next week
To experience it for myself
Im not sure a warranty would give a refund in the event of it being unrepairable, if anything Id imagine they just replace it entirely
Though that is something specific to the manufacturer of the device
if the warranty wasn't voided in any way I'd imagine you are fine. There is a reason dead on arrival rma's exist
dam
How good is xpg and adata’a customer service?
My GPU came with an anti-sag bracket but I can't use it because it gets in the way of where my m.2 expansion card goes.
Well that's not where it's supposed to go but it will work
It is a very large gpu
Surprisingly it wasn't sagging much
ok so how does that anti sag bracket interfere
It's supposed to screw into the area on the left where the graphics card screws in but my m.2 expansion card sticks out too far

wait huh? I've never seen one that doesn't go on the right. You mean where the I/O is?
It's supposed to be something like this
Yep
Cuz i read a review of a guy whose mobo got fried and have been paranoid since
Now il the dude could’ve made a mistake
But I’m a first time builder… which doesn’t give me much confidence
are you wanting to put the sag bracket in or you just gonna leave it?
Is that an xtx?
I'm gonna leave the way I have it. It probably doesn't need it though
Yes
The exterior is solid metal and you can use it as a weapon
276mm
Its a reference card i got from the microcenter bundle
ok cause you could prob get either a right side mounted one, or get a pcie extender and use that to lower the nvme adapter if you got room for it below your mobo. I've done that before lol. looks kinda funny to me tho
Uninstall the heatsink to not add another but to use as a weapon

It's probably fine the way it is. My m.2 card is sagging more than it.
@light egret i feel like i know you
iunno maybe we passed each other in a grocery store once or somethin
Anyways guys am I worrying over nothing?
chances are your pc will be fine, but use a surge protector
no... I dont think so... did you used to be a mod here?
I don't think he was a mod but he was a regular a long time ago
I found this belkin one a couple days ago https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000J2EN4S?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apin_ct_1B0CP7GV1AKG5XCRKGCV&language=en_US
yeah I haven't been on my comp at all in the last couple years until now casue im taking an online class lol
oh wow
i could never do that
too much stuff to do on my pc
work related stuff
and other stuff
im currently using one that looks exactly like that but its Ativa brand. should be fine lol
Nice
I'm trying to get a wfh job so that I can travel a bit lol
I'm currently unemployed casue I moved to a new city with family and haven't been able to find a job in my field, but I don't wanna go back. I was a low voltage tech in new construction in texas heat sucks. So now I'm trying to pivot into IT, hence why I'm taking a class lol
Forkslabs is hiring

Hire me
congratulations you are now hired
Illegal labor practices is normal in my town.
wow, I counter sue you. first paycheck didn't even arrive
MY EYES

😂
@proud jackal did you see my new GPU yet?
no
I gotta say im jelous of that pc. Looks so clean
7900XTX
nice
The motherboard has no audio and the RGB controller is broken
what do mean the mobo has no audio
Please use the bracket for that card. Seen too many of these suffer bga cracks from the weight after a few months
Or at the least support the right hand corner with something
I am using it now but not the way the manufacturer recommends
Ok good
As long as it's there
Navi x1 cards aren't as bad as nvidia 90 cards but they're still vulnerable
It wasn't sagging badly though. My m.2 expansion card is sagging more
It was getting worse throughout the day which is why I decided to use the bracket
Yeah I believe it
It's something like a 2kg card which has reinforced brackets but it's still kinda sketch
Like Sapphire definitely tried, it was a pain to disassemble mine...lol
this is how my build started but ive changed almost everything since
Come a long way lol
Spent a lot of money
I probably could have restored my 09 civic if I didn't put the money into it.
They are above the aio. The positive air pressure is enough to cool the CPU though
Ah ok
I've ran it in fanless mode and it only got up to 65C
My pc started as a generic HP desktop back in 2007
I started with an 08 Alienware but the only thing that moved over was the gtx 770 and that was only until my 1660Ti came in. Then I upgraded to a 2080Ti.
My biggest issue now is the motherboard because it has a ton of things broken
Mine was a super slow upgrade lol. First was more ram, then GPU, then added more HDDs, then I swapped mobo/ram/cpu, then after a while I got a new case, then after a while I upgraded gpu again, etc.
lots of time in between
for the longest time the only original part that remained was the CD drive but my most recent case doesn't support CD drives
I've been building this currently PC since 2019
wish i had a nice pc
theo post your specs

i wish my macbook had a fan
🥲
I think I found a pic of Theos pc
doesn't have megu can't be
not a fan of cooling pads, but interesting they make it double as a stand
it was a joke. I've never had one that made a real difference lol
but i dont use macbooks so maybe? 🤷
looking like a case in a museum holding the jewels, now you just need the security lasers
My mom's old laptop had a dual core Pentium and it would thermal throttle. It was from 2012.
that thermalpaste was mad crusty then
😂
sometimes I just press my hand to the chassis and watch the render times go down
yeah I was gonna say, either reapply thermal, or clean out dust, or both
I replaced the paste and it didn't help. The cooler was just bad
Cooling pads help by lifting the laptop from the surface. So basically just need to get the cheapest pad that is completely mesh. The fans on the cooling pads dont do anything. Can also just prop the laptop up with your phone idk.
I have a macbook air from like 2011 and I got it second hand for 50 buks cause it was about to explode, so I fixed it, and it runs at like, 2 frames per second on the dekstop.
geddit...
Replaced the thermal paste with thermal grizzly and it was still overheating just from loading windows 8
did you try installing windows xp
Gotta help roman pay for that gtr
I thought that's what EK was for
Which one do you think geddit is: reddit's brother, sister, father, mother, aunt, etc?
I bought 3 tubes of it because I kept misplacing them
reddit's sane cousin
kryonaut? for a laptop? Bad idea
I found them all so I just put it on every computer I see.
It'll pump out
thermalright TFX for laptop
MX-6 > Almost kryo but no dry out
or honeypot honeywell PTM7950
Dumb to use an xoc paste for daily unless you already have it anyway, just get mx4 or something
If you want to say you have the best non-conductive
Ye
I used it for like 3 hours then took the laptop to the dump
Grand total of like 2C over mx-6
lel
Think of all the MHz I could get out of 2C
lets see
Used Thermalright TF9 on RX 7800 XT, thermals have been fine for months now
Used MX-6 on 13600k, thermals have been fine aswell
I was young once too
The cpu will die before the paste anyway
let it go felix...
let it go
I remember getting a 2c and thinking my pc was going to be so much faster
i now realize how crazy the compression is in AV1 codec
Good for the companies that love streaming 8k at 1 bit per hour

I can't use av1 cuz I wanna post vids on discord
sucks that discord cant embed them yet
ya
Lol, as if Discord would ever properly try making their stuff work
mmmmm if you got the hardware yea
hevc understandable
fancy words for fancy people
yeah I think it would still be a long time before av1 would start to go mainstream.. that is if it ever does
☠️
well atleast all modern cpus moving forward will have some type of AV1 support
Like seriously, despite having the voice message feature that allows audio file playback on mobile Discord still hasnt allowed audio file playback on mobile, unless you get a third party client and upload an audio file as a voice message.
Not for phones yet
What is av1? like what it do
Qualcomm just rebranded a 2019 SOC yet again
new video codec
can compress better than any other codec but requires newer hardware
i wonder if the process times for av1 is as bad as h264/265
AMD Ryzen 6000 and up supports av1
so is it more efficient in that it will transmit higher quality video at lower size?
bingo
Or higher quality at same size
Very useful with 50mb
neato
I tend to upload clips into discord so
Or can technically go middle of the road with higher quality at lower file size. But that makes it sound kinda confusion, should ideally only change one variable when describing the comparison between two things.
it works on my amd gpu (11% on the codec engine)
now will that also be the case for streaming video in like, a zoom setting to eat up less bandwidth?
well darn. I keep getting kicked from zoom meetings due to low speeds and such lol
I'll get real internet one day
compatability with streaming services is pretty limited iirc
If the program properly supports it, if the sender/receiver has AV1 support in their hardware, and if the program prioritizes having the same quality at a lower bitrate rather than higher quality at the same bitrate, then yes.
Ah so it has to be on both ends. Ok.
The sender needs AV1 encode support and the receiver needs AV1 decode support
^^^
well people in my zoom meeting are using hardware that I feel like is from the 90s or early 2000s sometimes so I doubt they will be getting that anytime soon lol
would be cool if that became the norm tho.
I also get the feeling that Zoom doesnt have AV1 support yet. But idk tho.
i doubt it
I don't really like zoom. It's kinda weird. Also it's paywalled
businesses need to just start discord servers.
I still havent installed Zoom for the few times I needed it, always go through the browser.
yeah that's what I used to do too. But I had to install it for my class.
why do i have a squeal on high cpu load? im thinking my pump is screwed on my aio
most workplaces I work with use google meet or ms teams for calls
We use zoom and Slack, but discord does both better imo.
I haven't tried google meet and i've only used teams a couple of times very briefly
?
Zoom/Slack has their uses for professional stuff, like attendance/minute logging
zoom has some nice functionality with a whiteboard and stuff but paywalled
i do calls from time to time for tutoring and i found google meet the best
no hassle with a client, just one link and it works
But like, even though we are in the same group, zoom gives only a 10 minute time limit to use video chat with another person unless the person who starts the conference is paying for it. Also this may only be in my class, but like it won't let me save the meeting even though its a recurring meeting, I have to reclick the link each time. Just lemme save it.
I didn't know goolge meet was a thing and im suprised we're not using that cause theyre heavy on google in everything else.
can i get confirmation?
Could be due to this stuff. gMeet doesnt save chats for a meeting which Zoom does afaik.
its a bit light feature wise but zoom is cluttered imo
could be fan, could be hard drive, could be AIO pump if you have one.
aio pump is what im thinking
also i was paying for google ai premium which gave me google meet features too
I mean zoom has some great features but it's just also weird and clunky and no one seems to know how to use it properly. Theres a bit to much stuff.
It's hard to say without diggin into the computer and finding where exactly the squeel is coming from. I thought I had a broken hard drive but it turned out hard drive was just unplugged and one of my fans is squeeling.
Go into BIOS and manually set fan/pump speed until you hear noises. That or get Fan Control to manually set speeds in the OS.
Hmm
why have I never thought of that
Would've probably saved me some trouble on my last AIO lol
Cuz you havent eaten enough cheese to get yellow name
I used to be a techie though. I just stopped being active for years.
If you eat lots of cheese you become techie
I eat like, nothing but cheese.
not fans, no hard drives, not aio pump, maybe i have some atrocios coil whine on my vrm?
cheese is life
mmmm cheese
yes
it sounds like its a physical thing, cpu isnt overheating as it has 36omm of rad to work with
gpu is fine
ram is fine
It could just be a fan making some noise
nope, tested fans
Might be psu with coil whine
When does sound exist? Like for a few seconds at the start-ish of a load, during the entire load, during specific parts of load, etc?
that or my vrm
its like, on high loads (modded minecraft, star citizen, etc) there is this whining noise that doesnt connect with thermals
high pitched
Solution, there can be no sound if there is no air, put the PC in the vacuum chamber.
LOL
😂

theo for techie 2024
but yeah im thinking its either vrm whine or psu whine
out of curiousity, what psu do you have
I imagine that is coil whine from mobo VRM, GPU VRM, or PSU.
rm850x
Test a cpu only benchmark and see if it whines
That would probably be vrms. A gpu benchmark could rule in/out the gpu. Psu might be a little harder
well what makes me think its cpu whine is that this is a low end z690 with a 14700 on 5.3 GHZ
didnt happen with the old cpu
but put this one in
presto
coil whine
cpu vrm
sorry
not cpu itsself
I imagine it's GPU coil whine, but can check PSU with running a constant GPU load and starting/stopping a CPU load, and vise versa with constant CPU load and starting/stopping GPU load. If coil whine varies in both of those tests when it's likely PSU whine.
well, as soon as i shut off high load it stops
and ive pushed the gpu and have had zero issues
like ive pushed it to max stock clock and it was fine at 100% load
and it doesnt happen with beam which is high ram and vram load
I mean unless you're pushing the limits of the psu I would imagine that, while it might be annoying, I don't think the whine is going to hurt anything. I ran a PSU with coil whine for years and it never failed until our power got knocked out by a lightning strike and I wasn't using a surge protector. Only damage was to the psu though.
Someone else can correct me if I'm wrong though.
Sure
yeah, its just slightly loud and annoying as hell
but no issues
Just be like me
if there is magic smoke coming out of your pc, you tell it to share.
tbh, i just let my pc do its thing, if it effects it ill fix it but this thing has randomly made and stopped making noises that idgaf
lol same.
when I thought my hard drive was broken and making a scratching noise, i left it forever. I only looked at it cause I was looking to see what hard drive was what so I could figure things out for converting my boot drive so I could install win 11. Imagine my suprise when the noise couldn't have been my hard drives as both were unplugged
I thought they had just broken
look at this hard drives read and write totals
it should be dead
yeah its either vrm or psu, and its a buzzing sound, mmmmm coil whine
isnt comeing from gpu
idk
like i said
idgaf
If you play music really loud, it's not there.
or minecraft
lol
I FOUUUUUND IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT
not psu
cpu or gpu, likely gpu as it changes depending where i look
what gpu do you got
asrock challenger d 6700xt
ah man. It's totally broken. Dont worry you can just send it to me and I'll recycle it for ya. Just send it to 1234 notareal St
LOL
Iunno if this is good advice, but somone online said you could take it apart and superglue your capacitors together, just barely enough to hold them together, but that will ruin your warranty and again the whine isn't gonna hurt anything.
I'd just leave it alone tbh.
ye
or you could try undervolting your gpu maybe
no
yeah i wouldn't either.
but im already deaf, whats a little coil whine
a lot of the info from this class is going in one ear and out the other I swear. How am I supposed to remember all this 😩
well my stupid issue is back
my second monitor can be fine for hours
but suddenly acts like you unplugged and plugged it back in
so goes black without disconnection then comes back
ive tried swapping cables
and now im using the cable from my apple tv 4k
and its still happening but i can use the apple tv with it for hours and hours
this all started after moving my stuff to a different room
The vibe is off
do you gots another port on the gpu you can try?
i have 3 display port but its a 4k 120hz display
so switching to displayport cuts that down
ill have to fiddle with it tomorrow or somethin
if it has dp 1.4 it should be able to hit 4k 120hz
I updated discord on my phone and I think it was a mistake
How do i see server members on the right
click at the top
Wtf

Well at least you can multi window discord mobile without the UI being unusable

i dunno what they were thinking when trying to push this online only plan
like you are a AA developer, do you REALLY have the resources to maintain an online game unlike other big publishers?
servers are already suffering
i definitely will share my reports to KT/nacon once this demo playtest is over
from awful perf to awful experience
