I was able to stop it from happening for a couple months, but because I forgot to close out an afterburner after recording the sound of my GPU for friend who's looking to buy one, it trashed my drivers and I'm going to have to do a full wipe and reinstall again

I've talked to a couple other people who have this issue as well, and I don't think any of us have figured out what exactly causes it, but the common denominator is multiple Nvidia GPUs

And I found multiple reports of people getting the same IO dropout that I am experiencing from using afterburner with even a single GPU, and it seems monumentally exacerbated by having multiple

It's so bad right now, I can almost not even use my mouse. I took a step away from my computer because I need to just calm down and not freak the hell out trying desperately to close all the things I'm working on before pulling the plug and restarting my computer

The 3060 TI is absolutely perfect for what I need, it serves its purpose entirely without issues separate from the de-sinking and subsequent IO dropout

It's just the things that I actively test against each other require two separate GPUs that are not interfering with themselves. I need to reliably see the speeds at which both are executing a specific program / task, and running both of them in parallel on the same GPU diminishes the results from both more than what is saved by using a single GPU if that makes sense

Like, running both tasks at the same time on the same GPU makes both of them very unstable, severely limits the amount of VRAM that they both have access to, and causes more than a 50% performance dropout across the both of them. So running both of them on the same GPU would only be about 40% as performant as running it on two separate GPUs

Even on an a100, it causes problems because I need to reliably see the speed at which the task is being completed, and having two very high demand tasks running on silicon at the same time will inevitably result in one of them taking higher priority than the other and causing inconsistencies and hitches

Yeah, that's what everybody who has multiple GPUs has been telling me as well, but it just doesn't seem like that should be the end of that. Like surely there has to be something to stop it from happening

Nvsurround is another archaic tool from nvidia that has similar issues@fair onyx

Both in equal measure are ass to run if you don't run it down to the letter perfect

I'm going to have to see if just disabling the second GP as a compute device when doing things that are known to de-sync it we'll fix it or not. If it does then I'll definitely post something about it, cuz it is not fun to deal with

People give nvidia too much credit for what they actually are capable of

If I stay away from afterburner for the most part, the issue is almost completely gone, but there are some other things that can cause it to rear its head
