its only used for batch processes like image downsizing and bucket aspecting, which is like a few minutes at most
my poor 3090 sucks in the hot air directly from the butt of my 3060ti
and this bad boy gets hot even on its own, its just torture when its sucking in the 3060ti's heat as well
I was able to power limit to 80% on the 3090 and maintain 97% perf at least, thats helped a lot
my new monitor is a power hog too, but I can luckily use it at lower settings to maintain its longevity and save on heat
If I had another good paying gig, i would upgrade to a full tower, get 64GB more RAM, upgrade my mobo and buy a second 3090. That would be perfect
I would also need another 850 watt PSU

ok, so if I do the numbers, I would only hit my max power/draw when training/validating. In LLM inference and text chatting, it would use one of the GPU's a decent bit, while all others VRAM stream. If I set up auto-splits, it will use all of them at the same time, but the responses will be proportionally the same amount faster, so its really the same amount of energy in the end

The 3080 ti doubled that again.
And the 4090... I forget just how much but I think it's double again over the 3080s
