ANybody know the best ways to optimize an intel laptop for better battery life without making the whole thing feel like its suddenly 10 generations old?

The battery on this laptop can be increased a good bit just by using battery saver, but the performance and feel of the laptop becomes horrible. In a way that my moms much slower AMD 4700u laptop doesn't. I am not sure exactly why this is happening, but its a severe difference
