That was one option yes, using the partition -> image -> partition method
The downside I would face there is my backup drive is on my network. I could move it temporarily but that's a few more steps.

the SN550 has better HMB performance than the helix-L because HMB sucks butt and the helix-L needs to lean on HMB for performance

The SN550 doesn't lean on HMB for performance but has it anyways, metadata is primarily split between PSLC and SRAM

The SN550 is a better drive than the helix-L but they are close enough performancewise that it really doesn't matter and one isn't worth more than the other unless we're talking like $2 difference
