I like my teamgroup ddr5 kit. It seems functional instead of just a loosely glued on heatsink and a decent pcb
Pictures don't do them justice, they look a bit better irl
I love my corsair ram the way it looks but yeah the speeds suck
I actually checked what they were running at the other day
stock.
even tho I went in bios and changed it
so I did it again
Vengeance also have icue issues 💀
Lol
I was icue obsessed in my early days
But I wouldn't touch the stuff now
it went away 💀
Okay so I bought the h100i plat aio and 2 weeks after building the computer the fans stopped lighting up 💀
I contacted corsair and they said they could give me a new aio once I sent the current one back
I said hell no
So I bought rgb strips to make up for the lack of rgb the fans had
also is this mobo good? wrong chat but y’all answering all my questions rn so whatever
Ehhh, not really any benefit over the a520m I suggested earlier
For 60% more
💀
Maybe some more io if anything
(usb ports)
well I need the usb ports
wait
maybe for my college one I don’t
this one?
it’s MSI tho 😒
I’ve had issues with msi in my past
or is the gigabyte one you’re talking about the one?
wait im@dumb
💀💀
nvm
No, asus tuf gaming a520m wifi
yeah I see
and what cpu did yall recommend instead of the 5600
Nothing unless it's am5
but the a520 isn’t am5 so 5600 is fine
5600 makes sense for super budget amd
Yes
Anything higher tier at this point you may as well do am5
Maybe 5700x
maybe
I built my main computer 3 years ago
3900x and 2070 Super
I couldn’t afford the 2080s
And only that if you're doing something that wants the extra cores like emulation
thanks for the help tonight @blazing musk @formal tusk
All good
I’ve got my build pretty much done now
Just gotta work these next 2 weeks to pay it off
Pretty much yeah, otherwise 7600 makes too much sense rn
oh
Or 12600k, or 13400(in rare occasions), 13600k, etc etc
why are X570s so expensive rn
2070S is still a pretty capable GPU, especially at 1080p. It can do some light 1440p stuff easily.
No one really needs X570, but the stock is probably running low by now
Less supply, higher price
X570 aren't worth it anyway for the normie
And you're probably using exactly zero of the extra features like RAID
Yeah pretty much
Most people who use x570 use it like a b550
That would be me
Similarly that a520m is like a b550 without b550 features
A B550 with an extra fan at that
I think the only reason I did buy the X570 was because it had RGB 💀
I made this mistake too, no one is omnipotent
Live and learn
Marketing and social engineering are powerful tools
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/2WsLhk these are the combined parts for both a new pc and upgrading the current one
Part List - AMD Ryzen 5 5600, Lian Li O11 Dynamic EVO ATX Mid Tower
One of the great but also bad things about PCs is there's always more to learn, no matter how much you know
Getting to connect these fans to my x570 in the O11 is gonna be fun
oh yeah that’s the last thing I need
fans
And maybe a fan hub
Have a look at the air mini if you want an o11
/mini (if you can fit an itx psu)
Save a good bunch
what is that
What GPU was the RM850x going to be powering?
my X570 is going into the O11
(4070)I want an all black build. I have a 850 white one currently but since I’m transferring into O11 I’m getting a black one
The 4070 is more than happy on a 650W
oh yes I know
Getting it for future upgrades then? That's fine
I just have the extra wattage I guess for upgradability
In that case get this https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qNKKHx/
gotcha
Uses the same cables and everything
Same style case just slightly smaller and a good $30 cheaper or so
O11 mini/mini air
what abt the 2023
Mini needs an itx psu but still fits everything else, mini air needs a 280 or 240 aio but still fits everything else
does it matter which year I get
gotcha
I think I want the bulky case tbh
And it’ll be my first time getting a 360 aio
also for the fan hubs. does deepcool have their own hubs and rgb fans
since Im getting their aio
Oh actually, you know what this would be a better option on the power supply
Since you're getting the 4070 this has the 12VHPWR native connector, that way you don't need to use the ugly adapter
Ahhh
Life safer
I assume the cables are pretty nice? Like braided and all?
I shouldn’t need custom ones?
Braided and flat cables
alright I think I’m chilling then
as long as there’s no ketchup and mustard i’m happy
these are good? to go with the aio I have so they match?
Depends on price
$45
I'm not sure how they compare to these https://pcpartpicker.com/product/FQ6p99/arctic-p12-pst-a-rgb-0db-488-cfm-120-mm-fans-3-pack-acfan00232a
If you only need three I'd go for those
If you need 5 then the deepcool ones
these fans are pretty good iirc https://www.amazon.com/Thermalright-TL-C12C-S-Computer-Included-Quantities)/dp/B0BKKFBR9R
There's good fans the C12C's
Better value than P12's, 15 for 3
But p12's also have daisy chaining vs the rgb on the c12c's, so it's a bit of a tradeoff too
Perf wise they're excellent
Get LianLi fans if you don't wanna deal with the obnoxious cable clutter once you have more than 6 fans in.
Nah, P12's do the same for cheaper
Daisy chaining 11 fans is a nightmare.
Unifans also have horrible performance
I have P12s.... I hate the daisy chaining clutter.
Define horrible?
I have both P12's and Unifans
I know they aren't as good but I can't see them being that much worse.
They have an annoying hum, AL's also have a total rpm range of like, 40% or higher
No fan stop
Only the 30mm thick ones have reasonable perf
The sl120 v1's are worse than LL's or good 80mm fans
The AL's are ruined by their mid performance for the price
I can't do that 😂
Perf-perf comparison at max speed.
They're passable but the price is garbage on infinity fans
I honestly wouldn't mind paying the premium to be rid of this horrendous cable mess you get with 11 fans.
The c12c's here beat all unifans
And for 5$ a fan
It's a literal nightmare especially when you need to get extensions.
For decent rgb at that
I know what rgb entails
But also you can spend a lot of your difference in budget in controllers for these C12C's instead
And still be well under 50%, maybe 40% of what you spent on unifans
And be better off anyway
Unifans have a nice concept for convenience but for price they're horrible
Not to mention some radiators need specific orientations on the V1's for the cable connector to fit
Meaning you get to see the cables anyway
Perf are the SL-Inf fans reasonable as said I don't mind the price for 2 reasons.
1 - Being rid of the cable mess
2 - Wonderful aesthetics
Blehh
Phanteks have better infinity alternatives
Or just get pst's and 10 minutes of zip ties
They do? I am interested in such fans but also perf has anyone made a chart comparing the performance of SL-INF against others?
Yes
Nasty looking though.
Pretty sure hardwarecanucks has a chart
It looks fine if you zip tie properly, you can't see anything
As a unifan owner I didn't enjoy them
I lasted about 3 months
What do you mean by hum btw?
The L-connect software also only works half the time
I run my fans at 65%-100% all day long so I am use to some fan noise with headphones off.
Pretty much non-existent with them on.
Imagine a man humming in your right ear constantly
Literally this
Seriously? Do you have a video cause that might prevent me from buying the SL-Inf.
Nope, I haven't used them in ages
When I had them in my case my psu was busy frying my 12900K's and prompting multiple warranties at the time
So I had bigger fish to fry back then
I see.
If I dig back far enough I'd find the pics of my build
Was basically only ever a mass of rainbow puke cos of the faulty psu
Then later I learned how L-connect 2 only runs once every second time you turn on the pc
So you need to manually open it almost every time
I found that more annoying than iCUE and that says a lot considering the hate I give Corsair for anything that isn't a case or psu
On the other hand p12's run pindrop silent even at full tilt, hence I became such a huge simp for them
I also greatly appreciate fan stop even if it's not totally stopped and just slow turning
From what I remember yes, they have like, a reverse fan cage model too for aesthetics iirc
They launched with the NV7 case
A very, very good case if you wanna dosh out big bucks
Excellent for water looping
Premium boards look amazing in it cos the cable management covers hide all the cables on the side and top
0.o not now but I might check that out in the future.
but like what fans come on the aio I got
the ls720
Okay
I’m trying to convince my mom to just let me bring my current PC to college bc it’ll save me around $1000 from having to build another

NEW GENERATION GAMING SSD EXCEEDS SPEED LIMITS The Predator GM7000 M.2 SSD removes the speed limits for gaming (with up to 7400 MB/s read speed) and offers up to 2 TB in capacity. It’s a feature-packed SSD using PCIe 4.0, a 12 nm flagship 8-channel controller, independent DRAM cache, 4 K LDPC Err...
Which one is better?
Perfect for gaming?
... overkill for most workstations let alone gaming
Western Digital Blue 2 TB 3.5" 7200 RPM Internal Hard Drive
This is what my games is on rn
but i messed up and relizedi should of gotten a ssd
Should i get a heatsink with it or no
Only some games need a SSD to run well, mostly open world stuff
Seriously though for gaming a basic C tier drive is plenty, even a SATA drive is fine
oo fr?
Do you think i should get that ssd then or a dif/cheaper one? i mainily play fps games lol just got divison 2 though pretty good rn and its on my hdd
Yes, S tier is the "extreme workstation" tier. So 8k video editing and massive databases.
Alright cool 76$ in total not bad
For a 1TB? That's double what a C tier drive costs
If you don't mind burning $25 go for it I guess
But you can get a 2TB for just a little more
how much more
should i get a different one then>
MP33 2TB has been $70 lately
oo hmm
Any of these would do well https://pcpartpicker.com/products/compare/VxfFf7,C3xbt6,74yqqs,2vVmP6/
Silicon Power A60 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive vs. TEAMGROUP MP33 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive vs. PNY CS1030 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive vs. Intel 670p 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive
Or if you wanted gen 4 https://pcpartpicker.com/product/RqTp99/solidigm-p41-plus-2-tb-m2-2280-pcie-40-x4-nvme-solid-state-drive-ssdpfknu020tzx1
Part List - Intel Core i7-12700KF, Radeon RX 6900 XT, Phanteks Eclipse G360A ATX Mid Tower
heres my specs so i think anyone wouild work but wouldnt gen4 be better for me
Not really better for anything other than sequential speeds
And that only matters when you need to read something really fast, like when you're scrubbing high res video
Or if you're copying from one SSD to another
oo okay
also question i have some games on the same ssd as my windows does that effect performance?
So this one i should do over the gm?
For gaming yeah
Unless you plan to run a minecraft server with hundreds of mods and dozens of players at once or something
P41 plus is perfect then
It can do more than just gaming but doesn't cost much more than other gaming drives
oh ight cool
and this?
Technically yes it does but not in any noticeable way
the p1 is more expensive than the 76$ one
I'd say next step up, atleast for 2tb, is xs70 at $108 rn
ohh its 2tb
but way overkill for gaming
Yes I linked 2TB drives lol
That's what I was trying to say, 2TB gaming drives cost as much as 1TB top tier ones
So get the p41 or xD
Yeah the 2TB P41 is perfect
seconded
esp at $75
$5 more than drives that perform similarly for gaming but a good bit worse in sequential speeds
huh
We don't talk about piracy here so it's best you ask this elsewhere
cough cough copyright infringement cough
oop
Naughty activities
the samsung 970 evo 1tb costs more then the same ssd 2tb right now on newegg
are samsungs ssds still suffering the bricking problem?
Shouldn't be, but also they aren't worth buying anyway
Only for 980 pro was the one suffering from it, they're fixed now though but yeah. They're not gpod value anymore
Pretty much riding the brand name
what is now?
Something like P44 Pro
Nah, p41 plus
If you want something great for gen 4 that one does it for so much cheaper than the typical samsungs
Or something super budget like an M450 spatium which works just fine
Depends what you intend to use the drive for
so the 941 plus i should get?
for the average user yes p41 plus
That's the average user
Honestly you could get away with less and possibly not notice but if the budget is there p41 plus is nice
Not that much more usually
Has anyone run raid 0 on two Gen 5 SSDs?
I am kinda curious how stupidly fast it would be.
oh hm like what one then
Usually it's mp33/silicon a60 whichever is cheaper
They're only $5 cheaper if you're still talking about the 2TB models
I'd say P41 plus is worth $5 more
oh ight
Hey guys, I’m helping a friend set up a new computer with windows on it but when we try to boot it’s opening to BIOS, and we have no way of changing the boot config, he is using an MSI click 5 bios and we just freshly installed a windows install on it but now it won’t boot
Try turning secure boot on or off
We turned it off
Does it work?
Back into the bios
Then let's try reinstalling windows again
Done, right back into BIOS
Elaborate
How
Like moving the drive to another m.2 slot if it's an ssd
If sata drive, try other sata headers
Ok
No difference
So, while you were installing windows. Have you had secure boot on or off?
Then we reinstalled it when it was off
So we tried both
T700 finally dropped
https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/crucial-t700-ssd-review/2
Wow a reasonable heatsink
i got amaozn prime now so should i still get the samew one
dang
nvm its 100$ now
?
ooof 2TB isn't gonna cut it anymore it seems. I might look into replacing my 1TB game drive with a 2TB or 4TB one later.
Dang fr?
?
You have no more slots to put another SSD?
No. Gonna get a AIC for cheap and buy the SN770 in a week or two.,
Hey if you put enough of them in raid they can be almost as fast as a SATA SSD
But at much higher capacity
^
Plus your PC gets to sound like an ion beam charging up when it starts
Literally death star vibes
this alright?
You'd need a motherboard that supports bifurcation
Does the B550M DS3H v1.4 support that?
Yes actually. You'll need to set it to 4x4 mode in bios. It doesn't say for sure in this case but that is often only on the primary (top) x16 slot.
So the AIC will work then?
Yes
But if it does require you to use the top slot (likely best, so you can get PCIe 4.0 mode) you'll need to put any GPU in a lower slot
That's the plan.
You're good then. It says it's supported in the manual.
PCIE 3.0x16 is fine even for like a 4090 right?
Yeah, although a 4090 is pushing that limit sometimes
Any issues with moving all my SSDs to the AIC cause currently my SSDs are kinda dangling?
Ooh, actually this would be a problem for a GPU
Bottom x16 slot only runs at x4 mode
That would throttle even a 6500 XT
AIC are pointless unless you have an absolute need for it
If you were working in the range of terabytes each day an AIC makes sense
Otherwise just get a large reliable HDD for cold storage
The bottom slot would make more sense for a capture card or nic if you really have to
ooof.
Well this is a problem.
Having a gpu in the top slot covers the other one.
Not really
Vertical mount + low profile card gets away with it
And again don't bother with an aic
The bottom slot being x4 would also limit each M.2 drive in the AIC to 1 gen 3 lane each
Hmmmm. Thoughts then? Sata SSD is to slow and I'd prefer to also use my current NVMe drives.
Have a 1TB active workspace nvme and then have an 8tb cold storage like a barracuda
The solution for like, 150$ versus nearer 600+
During a busy day I can go through about about 500GB of data.
Mhm
If you were working in the realm of terabytes then you could consider an AIC, but at that point you should be working with way more than a B550M
Like, x570, x670, wrx80*, trx40 etc
B550 is for layman use
Saving up to do a big upgrade come Blackweel and Ryzen 8000 series.
You can still get away with it if you manage your storage well and save hundreds

How's this SSD?
Iirc it's ok
About $200 for 4TB, import and shipping included.
If it's reminiscent of the JS600 that I read up on a while ago that is
Ya you could use that for a second ssd
Then hdd cold storage
Ez life
Just move everything over to the HDD when done, move it back when you need it
Mp33(34?) 4tb would be useful too
I already have 2 SSD so I will need to replace one of them.
Tho maybe not dramless on this scale of data
That's why I was looking into AIC.
P41plus worth it still?
Yes
Is 3D Nand dram?
Does the MSI370 really have a IOPS of over 300 thousand?
Charging ahead with speed! Optimized for the PCIe Gen3 interface, SPATIUM M470 SSD reaches read/write speeds up to 2400/1850 MB/s
Go m450 if you go budget spatium
can anyone recommend a dual nvme pcie adapter card with bifurcation
What is the speed limit of USB A 3.2 Gen 2?
That's a loaded question lol
Lmfao
Is it 3.2 gen 2x2 or 3.2 gen 2x1
Isn't there 3 answers
Yes 💀
Depending on some factors yes
Normally you only get the 20 Gbps from a USB C and it has to be gen 2x2
The score on the 18th hole
Was curious cause I found a M.2 enclosure to USB A 3.2 gen 2
Forgot if it was 2x2 or 2x1.
Probably 10gpbs
If it doesn't specify then it's probably gen 2x1 so yes 10Gbps
Oh yea they'd plaster that all over the marketing
Seemed like a decent way to make copying data over easier + still having an extra terabyte of storage in my system.
So it can keep up with NVMe SSDs then?
You'll need to make sure you put it in the ports that support that speed as well, most are 5Gbps
Just checked it says 10 Gbps.
Yes even at 5Gbps honestly, because you're usually not doing pure deep queue sequential read/write operations
The only thing would be latency I'd presume?
It would be a hair longer and you'd have to worry about the write cache flushing before removing the USB
If you use the proper "eject" option it makes sure that cache is flushed
Wait hold up. Would this make me able to use the full speed of a SN850X even on a 5700G?
Or close to full speed?
Yep lol
You'd need an 80Gb thunderbolt dock to pull the full theoretical 58Gbps on that drive
Plan is to get a 2TB SN850X knowing I will be bottlenecked for the moment but in the future I will be able to use it's full speed.
Gotcha.
I forgot is Thunderbolt still a Intel only thing?
Yes*
You can put an add in card with thunderbolt and use a video passthrough cable to get around that
USB 4.0 is here though. It's able to do 80Gbps but nothing has that speed port yet.
g'night
So in about a week I should be getting my new gen4 m.2 SSD as for a replacement of my 240gb SSD os drive and was wondering what the safest was to clone the boot drive to the new SSD and boot from new drive
Macrium reflect
Would the free trial work or would I have to dish out money
The free trial for the home version works for 30 days, almost no limits beyond that
Which is nice when most software has stupid limits like a max of 400MB
Yeah I just want to do a clone of C drive to new SSD and replace it since it is old
Can a dying boot drive cause pc crashes?
Also, as I have noticed, it only seems to be during gaming sessions (primarily playing d4 and Overwatch rn). Could it be due to heat? Though the pc doesn't seem to get that hot

also just defragged my drives, my one drive that just so happened to be holding D4 AND OW was 36% fragmented
What where your max temps on the cpu and gpu?
when I was checking, they were both about 50-60
Could by the drive but i wouldn't imagine the pc would crash from that
at max
Ah yeah deff not heat
Did you mean game or pc crash?
pc
Odd
yeh
imma check again after I finish disk defrag
and see if that does anything
cause like I said all my blizzard files are on the disc that was fragmented
I should also note that crashing was occuring even before d4 was played (thought I should note due to earlier d4 issues with gpu's)
How fast would your storage be if you had 8 SN850X in raid 0 connected via a PCIE 4.0x16 slot?
You'd be limited to the speed of the slot
@blazing musk my ssd came in the pr41 is there something i should do after installing it and optimziing it like i wanna move all my games onto it from my hdd
sorry for the ping btw
Steam makes it easy, you just go into your libraries, make a new one on the drive, and tell it to move your games
Also I just realized my mods are 4x the size of all the collective games installed on the drive. I think I have a problem.
PCIE 4x16 isn't snough for 8 SN850X?
8 drives would require 32 lanes to run full speed
what about pcie5?
The drives themselves only run on 4.0
The lanes of the card would slow it down to whatever it could do in 4.0x 4/8/16
So imagine 7/14/28 read speed
Also AIC's are usually native raid 0
@sour wadi Now, 5 hrs later, I am finally on pass 2 of defragmentation
Must be too full to totally optimize it
Running it through again to try, cause the drive is only 284gb free of 669gb
@prime notch is this an hdd
Yes
💀
I'm glad Windows decided to remove the A and B drives from the reserved letter list. They used to be just for floppies. The only reason Windows is still on the C drive is for legacy apps.
hmm if it did it automatically that's problematic. Is there a way to stop my scheduled optimization for ssds?
cause looking there it seems like it did in fact do it to two of my ssd's
Optimizing on the SSDs is just running the TRIM command, not a defrag
ah
Defrag on ssd is the same as death
what is the difference between the two? defrag is reorganizing and consolidating files, right
?
So yeah
Put simply yes
And putting files that are broken into pieces back together
Yes it's reorganisation of sectors and blocks so the files are, so to speak, in order
So the hdd runs faster and is less jumbled
what's trim command then?
Solid state is by nature already like this
cause otherwise it has to search for and rewind back to various parts of the data or smthn?
TRIM is how a SSD frees up deleted space. When you delete from the recycle bin it flags the space as available, but the bits are still there until the next TRIM.
It has to read from all over the disk instead of one part, and in a jumbled order
At the speeds a HDD runs at now it doesn't make a significant difference, but wayyyy back this was a genuine way to speed things up
You'd defrag before installing games
Ofc
It was like 36-38% fragmented
It makes total sense to still do it
ye
But like, it's not gonna be a night and day difference necessarily
and I figured, might help fix pc crashes if its trying to read disk stuff but failing, because the crashes that I've been experiencing are while playing games whose files are stored on said fragmented disk
Dial the clock back 20 years and it was the difference between unusable and absolutely usable in some situations
ye, I remember that on my family pc
Unlikely unless it's an old disk tbh
Funny thing, a defrag on the school Windows XP computer helped spark my interest in PCs. It had the semi-animated multi-colored blocks moving around and I was curious what it was doing.
Esp if your main drive is an ssd
I REMEMBER THIS

@formal tusk any way to find HDD age without ripping pc apart?
Crystal disk info
Also would these be partitions or smthn?
Yeah they're system partitions
About CrystalDiskInfo A HDD/SSD utility software which supports a part of USB, Intel RAID and NVMe. Standard Edition Shizuku Edition Kurei Kei Edition Download System Requirements OS Windows XP/Vista/7/8/8.1/10/11Windows Server 2003/2008/2012/2016/2019/2022 Architecture x86/x64/ARM64 IE 8.0~ .NET 4....
That'll tell you if you have an obviously failing drive too
Different anime themes lol
Say what you like but Shizuku is pretty cute
What exactly does the message say?
It just downloads automatically when I do it
Could be your browser settings
It says "CrystalDiskInfo9_0_1a.zip isn't commonly downloaded. Make sure you trust CrystalDiskInfo9_0_1a.zip before you open it"
imma try it on firefox
cause I mainly use edge
Lol wat
I guess not common to edge users but this has been my go to program for YEARS
It was the only one I tried that was able to read the SMART info through a USB adapter
Even though edge is chromium based now
well its downloading on ff
whack
Yeh
fck chrome
tho
xD
Ok so now its downloaded
do I extract to a storage folder for it
?
The files inside look like this
Yes extract it, and run diskinfo64
You'll immediately get a chime if one of the drives is failing too
just 64 right, not a64?
Yes
@ fal this is what I see now
That 750GB is quite well used
check the ssd
40k hours of run time
Ye the SSD is still at 87% health too, gotta love those things
yuppers
Is there any Attribute names that I should be looking for that may indicate issues related to my crashing?
The ones worth noting that the drive keeps track of appear to be good. You'd be able to tell at a glance if there was an issue that the SMART data could tell you, the blue would be yellow or red.
Because yeah, the C: drive is where I boot off of
Only 1 read error on the 750GB in its life, well within tolerance. No reallocated sectors. It appears healthy as far as software can tell.
This can't tell you about hardware issues though
What does it mean when the read error rate says current - 99, worst - 46, and threshold - 16?
Oh there are a few UDMA CRC errors on the C drive, that's often a loose/bad cable or bad port
on my A and D drive there is also a UltraDMA CRC error count
or is that showing that there is none?
So if the pc is crashing, it may be because of a bad or loose port
since C: drive is my boot drive?
Yes that could be the cause
It could be as simple as unplugging the drive and plugging it back in on both ends
yeah I'll give that a shot
Maybe blow out the connector so it's not dusty
I even got compressed air for it B)
just cable end of connector
or both
Both
Yep just like a N64 lol
that is the most trash poggers I've ever seen
I always remember doing it to my gameboy color
ahh good times
this is me rn - trying to find jobs and game, can't get a job and can't game
At some point i'll probably @ you and ask for help in transferring all my files on old disks to new ones, but rn cba. But at some point I want to get the partitions on my A: and D: drive combined, and clean out my local disk C: a bit
but that battle is for another day
yup, I relate to this
my friends and I used this on one of our old discord's as a channel image
When I get around to doing what I mentioned above, should I just @ you in this channel, or another (if that's ok)? @blazing musk
also, just checked, that crucial ssd has been going for 1859 days

Sure. I might not respond right away but you can, and someone else might help before me
tyvm!
5 years... yikes
As in the 750gb hdd, what does it indicate when it says buffer size in the top right?
says the same thing for my E drive, my M.2 (different value)
The drive is able to hold onto a small amount of data in a high speed cache, which can help with random small writes
This would be in addition to any additional cache like if the SSD has a DRAM cache of 256MB or something
Ahh ic
its just so whack that I only crash when gaming
wonder if its when my case or gpu fans/aio pump go faster that something jiggles loose
if it is a loose cable thing

What kind of a crash is it? Full system immediate reboot? Hard lockup? Blue screen?
full system immediate reboot
sometimes kicks me into BIOS
sometimes restarts normally
only happens when gaming
iirc
don't remember it happening during normal use
That could be the cable then, yeah it's possible the vibration from the fans/pump aggravates it
Might just deal with it till the 15th tbh
not worth tearing stuff apart for now
just can't play d4
getting my new case and fans soon tho
Consider yourself lucky, I've heard it's a bug fest
lol it is. I heard about gpu bricking issues back in beta and stopped before getting to that point so I didn't brick. I've played New World before finding out it was bricking stuff. In D4 my only issues so far is dc due to bad internet once, game crash due to overloaded servers like 6-8 times, pc crash like 4-5 times
And hopefully 2 of my issues of temps and internet wil be fixed soon
my town is working together with Telus to implement PureFiber throughout the community
and with a new FULL TOWER I'll have no air flow issues compared with my current setup
okie dokie, lets go play d4 again and see if my pc crashes

then if it does I address thru the SATA drive itself
Hmm, just changed cables between a few of my storages, so we'll see what happens
Is there anything I should do before adding my new SSD into my pc
Yes, follow the ritual outlined on page 372 of your Necronomicon. It's a good luck ritual and won't bring about the end of days, I promise.
Huh
No. The answer is no you don't need to do anything, just put the drive in.
Once it's in you can check if it's shown in bios or skip that step and go straight to windows, where you'll open disk management, set it up as GPT scheme, and create a simple volume on the drive using the default settings.
Whacky
Yeah think its issue with my SATA drive @blazing musk, doesnt show up here but I can still boot
It's possible that the controller itself is going out on the drive
Which is not something that the smart data would be able to tell and you'd get weird dropout issues like you have
Dropout issues?
It'll be there and then it won't, a dropout
Since it's your OS drive when it drops out it just insta crashes
Oh also while youre here, should I be running firmware or discrete tpm for windows 11?
Ahhh
Doesn't matter
Indicating the need for a new drive?
So the GM7000s came in but I notice there’s a piece of foam on the dies. If it’s going under my mobo’s heatsink do I just take the foam off?
Ight cool do you think I should copy the games over or just reinstall them on the drive
You can move them with steam like I showed before. Other games and launchers usually need to be reinstalled.
Hmm idk. Is it worth getting another hdd to replace my old one, and a sata ssd for my failing ssd, or should I just buy 2 ssd’s?
I just dont know which is more worth cause cost per gb is different
Or buy a 2TB SSD for $70
Like this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08CDM2HSS

Where u get those? Im looking online and its like $200
Don’t have another m.2 port. I dont remember the reasoning but iirc only one is active on my mobo
Have an prime b560m-a with a i9-10900f cpu
It's probably because you have a 10th gen CPU on the B560

Ok? That's not really a good deal
Isn't the msrp like $80?

Is even just sticking with another crucial drive ok, or are they kinda POS?
They have some good and some bad models, just like every brand. There's no benefit to sticking to one brand.
Is something like this decent too? https://www.amazon.ca/Timetec-Performance-Internal-Computer-Desktop/dp/B09QRQJTPN/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?crid=A0COYQ1IZWKL&keywords=sata+ssd+2tb&qid=1686184414&sprefix=sata+ssd+2t%2Caps%2C368&sr=8-5&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.c1b088f5-04b2-4ab6-9d7a-b4ccd9a2b544
For example, the Crucial BX500 is basically trash but the MX500 is decent
Seems like that drive is ok but I don't see any official reviews. At least most of the consumer reviews are what I'd expect.
Also, do you have a brand you’d recommend for sata cables themselves?
I just use whatever I have on hand for cables.
was looking at the brand itself, apparently it used to be part of toshiba
Motherboards still come with them so I've got a bunch stockpiled lol
Ah
Shoot, gunna try replacing mine so I don’t have a mix of new and old when im using new ssds

Where?
Is it ok to have multiple storage devices running off of one power cable?
Both cables I have connected to my psu rn are in separate sata and peripherals slots and want to clean it up if I can
That's fine
You can push something like 75W safely through that and a HDD uses maybe 15W at worst
Dusty af lol
11W at full tilt on that drive
Whatta damn mess
how much power does a pcie 5.0x4 nvme ssd draw?
This considered too loose? @blazing musk
That's pretty normal
This one uses 12W https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/gigabyte-aorus-10000-gen5-ssd
It's overkill, as it always has been
They always do that
Is it normal that I get lines blinking across the asus loading screen when booting, or is that a sign of not good thangs
Blinking aint the right word
But they flash more or less? Just super small ones
Then when I load in fully to my desktop its not there so dont think its gpu?
It's probably fine
Its only accross the little loading circle
well, we'll see what happens
I've unplugged and sorted my system a bit
so now wait and see what happens
Does the lavel come off of the ssd or do i leave it on
If it's a NVMe then it stays on as that's a heat spreader.
nah it isnt nvme p41
There's a p41 SSD that's not in a m.2 form factor?
leave it on
oh okay so leave that on
bet ty
time to shut off pc and insert this bby
also sometihngs weird amazon sent me a email and they refunded me my money that i used to buy the ssd with lol
sweet
Kinda makes me like idk what if theres a recall on the ssd or like it isnt workgin right
okay I got a strange question.
How many sata SSDs would need to be run in raid 0 to compete with a good gen 4 NVMe SSD like a SN850X?
If you're referring to raw, theoretical, sequential read bandwidth then 14. SN850X is rated 7300 MBps and a good sata drive is 550MBps. 7300/550=13.27 which should be rounded up. This doesn't account for overhead doing RAID either, and with that many drives you'll really want to do RAID 10 in case one fails so you'd need 28 drives.
It might, you were doing a gen 4 drive right?
Right gen 4, so which slots do you have open
M2_1, M2_2, and M2_4 are gen 4 slots
M2_3 is gen 3
Yep the one under the GPU will be gen 4, and you'll get airflow over the drive too from the GPU
Im not sure about the airflow, bc ites right behind it the fans are facing down
and to amke sure this label does stay on
ohh
wait..
i might of taken it off on my first ssd thats with the heat sink
gonna double check that
question should i do rn or in the morning? my pcs been on all day not sure if temperature effects anything like static wise or the ssd itself
ight cool ty, only thing is taking oiff the gpu is srota tough bc the clip broke so it doesnt make a noise when it gets hooked in
How does a SATA SSD compare to a NVMe for shooter and open world games?
Considering getting a big SATA SSD to store all my game files on
Not much difference at all
What would the difference be?
Cause I can get a 8tb Seagate Barracuda SATA SSD for a little over $100.
That sounds more like HDD prices
Yeah I'd be sus as to how much of that is ssd exactly lol
Fal i might put it in m4 bc its less of a hackle then removing my gpu and putting it in m2
That's fine, it's still a gen 4 slot
Or should I put it behind the gpu for the air flow
The one to the right is m4?
Oh they might all be gen4
Oh okay I’m good then
Can’t be that screw way to freakin tiny
Good?
Looks fine
bet ssd is in now should i check to see if its registering?
its a new sdrive
nvm gotem
ez
done got it
So now im ghonna move all my games over and remove this hdd
Realized my other d drive it says 0 % formatted
Is there a way i can transfer everythig on my d drive to my e drive
Macrium reflect could do it
Whats that?
Disk cloning software. Tell it what drive to copy and where to copy to.
Once that's done, change the assigned drive letters so your old D drive is now E, and the old E drive is now D. That way program (and game) installs don't break.
Macrium Reflect - Incredibly powerful software that allows you to create and schedule effective backups
oo k
OPnce i move everything am i good to just delete it and remove the d drive from my pc since i dont plan on using it
Yes
is there a way to move epic games launcher? or no i cant find a way so ig there isnt
Epic is a bit of a pain. You have to copy the files elsewhere, delete the game, tell it to install the game in a new location, stop the download, and copy the files to the new location and tell it to verify the data.
jeeez xD
That's when you ask yourself... is it worth it? lol
But if i use Macrium wont i still have to do that or no
If it's already installed on the D drive then no
Is it safe like legit?
or sohuld i just redownload everything on my e drive i got really good internet
the Procedure
Since i@ deleting it after I won’t have to rename my Ssds right? Or
i bought the Predator GM3500 M.2 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) on the 9th is it worth replacing my kingston 128GB SSD card in my acer nitro 5 with the Predator GM3500 M.2 1TB PCI-Express 3.0 x4 Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)
Hi, I'm wondering if I can get some advice / help on upgrading my MSI gaming desktop SSD drive. I have an MSI Aegis 3 Plus intel-core i7 that lists:
2 x M.2 SSD (1x Auto Switch, 1x Intel Optane support)
1 x 2.5" HDD
2 x 3.5" HDD
My SSD is the boot drive and it's 256GB. I'd like to upgrade it to 2TB.
The HDD is 1 TB. If possible, I want to replace it with an SDD 1 TB.
I'm confused over M.2 SSD sizes, however, and what works for my motherboard. MSI search on the model lists HDD requirements in recommend. Crucial also recommended several SSDs.
2TB M.2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZQ97H3W
1TB 2.5" SATA https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QJ2BXN8
You might prefer a 2TB SATA though, since it's only a little more https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08GB8S6R3

Thanks. So, any of these will work on an M2 2280 form factor? I'm very confused over Nvme vs SATA.
Crucial recommended this: https://www.crucial.com/ssd/p3/ct2000p3ssd8
Yep any NVMe M.2 2280 drive will work. The one I picked is better than the one crucial picked.
Yeah, and cheaper. I really appreciate it! I need to upgrade the SSD for Starfield; I'm barely getting by on min recommended gtx 1070ti but the desktop won't take anythin more than a 1080. And there's no may I have enough storage for the game as stated. My desktop is older, but thus far, at 1080, it can handle upgraded Witcher 3 and CB2077 fine. But with an HDD and a low storage SDD... might as well upgrade those first.
A good SSD can be better for loading open world games but it wouldn't affect fps
At least it's a cheap upgrade
Right. I might luck out, and it's a cheap upgrade. I think the game specs are atrocious, but I've been relying on the built-in specs since I bought the desktop on sale and the SSD is almost out of space with only Windows on it. I have all my games on the HDD and need to upgrade that, too. Can I fit the same SDD in place of the HDD, as in get two and swap out?
whats the best price to performance 2tb Nvme Pcie gen 4.0 i can get right now.
So macrium reflect did work but it also made it a little funny to work with since it wouldnt let me extend the partition to the rest of SSD so I used mini tool partition to steal the extra 700gb for my windows drive and that works perfectly as a 1tb gen4 ssd
hi 😊 looking to upgrade my storage… i have an i5-12400f and a 1tb m.2 ssd (teamgroup mp33)
The budget is around ~$100 and would like recommendations for a fast m.2 ssd (at least 1tb)
Depends what you're using it for
Generally recommended for gamers. There's no point spending more unless you do a lot of video editing or 3D modeling, things like that.
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/VxfFf7/silicon-power-a60-2-tb-m2-2280-nvme-solid-state-drive-sp002tbp34a60m28
A60 2tb if you're gaming, p41 plus if workstation loads that benefit from fast storage but you don't need top of the line, xs70 if you do
Family members laptop is 'running slow', looking in task manager shows constant 100% disk usage (HDD) but under 10 mbps total. Says that it has gotten worse recently (past few months, owned laptop for 6+ years)
As far as I can tell the drive is dying, any other possible explanation?
Running a defrag but doubt it'll help as it says it's already set to defrag once a week
Did a sfc scannow last week and it seemed fine, I'll give the others a go
Oh also did a Malwarebytes scan
But I'll do chkdsk
See what process is using HDD. MBPS doesn't really tell much.
mostly system or browser.(nothing being downloaded nor installed)
100% usage on the disk but only 5-10mbps just seemed wrong
defrag is currently on it's 7th pass
Constant small operations can give low bandwidth usage with high disk activity.
ok.
I also noticed that Firefox was using a lot of ram, like 3gb out of 8, and closing it took a long time, I assume because it was trying to move data from ram to hdd
I guess i could also try and download something n see if the hdd is bottlenecking the download
I've never had to troubleshoot drive stuff so idk good procedures for this. All I know is that this isn't enough info to know if its a bad drive. Only test I know can help is testing with new OS (make a new small partition on drive, use USB bootable), but its a bit overkill.
You'd want to do drive tests for drive failure. CrystalDiskInfo is good for getting basic SMART info.
8GB of RAM? What version of Windows? I'd either add more memory or debloat windows. Even a debloat is only a temp fix though.
win10
but the 3gb used just didn't seem right
that was like 10 tabs, max
unless firefox is a ram hog; I use Brave and it's currently sitting at 1.8gb with 20+tabs
(some are compressed/cashed elsewhere i imagine but it seems like the laptop with Firefox was having issues doing that or smthn)
Firefox is a RAM hog yes. Not as bad as Chrome though.
Guys what kind of screw do I need for the b550 gaming x v2?
I just got my samsung 980 pro and a screw is missing
M2x3mm
It's normally a tiny silver screw, the top of it is thin and flat
These normal-ish for an HDD?
Pretty normal yeah
Thanks
Laptops performance seems a bit better after defrag and chkdsk
Still not amazing but I'm just used to ssds I guess
Probably that yeah
That extra couple seconds it takes to respond hurt sometimes
My WD Blue for comparison. It's CDM 8 so test 3 isn't comparable to your CDM 7.
So yeah your drive is pretty normal for a laptop especially.
Yeah it's a 2.5in 5400rpm
That explains why my read is a little better, I have 7200 rpm
But then again WD has been caught lying about RPM before
Where can I find the official drivers (win10) for LSI SAS controllers such as 9207 and 9208 8i?
I can't really find them online or maybe I'm just blind
Why does it say html download?
It says it's for server 2012 nothing should be stopping it from working on 10
Because that page is apparently just a redirect
Ok, that's why it said incompatible for win10 products
But yeah most of the time you can download drivers from much older os, I often used win 8 drivers for other pcie cards or devices
Try installing in compatibility mode and disabling driver signature enforcement if you have issues
It redirects here btw https://www.broadcom.com/support/oem/dell
Dell Support Page for SAS 9207-8i (avg_en)
I haven't bought it yet since I'm still looking for which one to get because of both prices and shipping times
I'll let you know when I get it and set it up
But I'm sure I'll get the 9207
I also have to decide if I should get a genuine LSI card or an inspur (which is also a "popular" Chinese version of that card)
But I feel like the LSI would be better so I'm sure the drivers work fine
Right now I have found a bunch on eBay but I don't know which one to get, mainly for a few reasons like: speed (sas2 and sas3), I'll be running 2-3ssds and 1-2hdds, driver compatibility with windows 10, driver availability,.. etc.
The cards are: 9207, 9208, 9210, 9211, 9217, 9240 (all 8i btw) I'll be using jbod, no raid at all, so which one would you recommend if they all were the same price? 9207 8i is the most widely known one apparently
If you don't need raid support that simplifies your requirements. You don't need the extra RAM cache and things like that.
That would remove the 9240 from the list
But still have four and they're either 100% LSI or Inspur. Which one of the two brands do I get?
So I can see what I'm left with
LSI ones are slightly more expensive about 10€ more but also don't include SATA breakout cables (don't really need them but they would be a bit useful)
And what about unraid, do I even need that for anything? The pc will work as a Nas and already has win10 configured. What could be the advantages?
Idk, the included cables would be nice to have so I'd probably go for that.
As long as it works, meets your requirements, and is fast enough for you, it doesn't much matter which you get.
You don't explicitly need unRAID but it could be nice to have. Maybe run ZFS off it for nice, reliable storage.
Then I'll probably go for a LSI one with breakout cables. It's likely a wiser choice. Last time I got the HPe p410 and didn't work, probably was designed to run on hp servers and not consumer pcs. LSI works since many people use that, better not risk getting incompatible hardware
Yep, I saw that post I also saw other videos of people using the 9207 and similar cards on normal computers, not in windows but with Linux or other similar os
Why didn't I find this before uhh.
The 9207 looks like to be the most recent one, released in late 2013
Well that's handy
These are the ones I found on eBay
The one in row 18 is probably the one I should get
Actually the breakout cable is just 5 bucks new... Could also get one without any and buy them later to save 5 or more bucks...
What about the drivers?
I'll double check
None of them is actually a bad option if you consider only LSI ones, maybe the ones around the €45 range are a bit expensive.
If the 9240 is in IT mode and not raid mode then it doesn't need more than the standard HBA driver included with windows.
If it's in raid mode, it takes a flashing to change that
All the cards are it mode flashed
I especially didn't add non-it (or ir) cards to the list because I felt like it'd have been a big pain to flash and not brick the card
So the 9240 is also IT
I think it says 9211 because it's flashed with the same firmware
Checked online and there are drivers for win10
would it still be a valid choice to get the 9240 if flashed as a 9211?
Are there 8tb NVMe ssds?
ye but they're super expensive
Like which ones?
This
For a cool $999.99

all 9's
999.99 price tag lol
yep
it's not even worth to consider
over running multiple 4tb drives
for videos editing, recording, etc, I am gonna look into a 4tb SN850X.
@blazing musk u alive?
But to answer that question I don't see a problem with that
I have two Inland TD510 pcie 5.0 NVME drives. 10000 MB/s read and 9500 MB/s write. Would it be beneficial to configure them in raid 0 confined to a pcie5 x4 slot. Bandwidth of pcie5 x4 is 16 GB/s so it should benefit right? This would be on an adaptor card connected to a 5.0 x16 slot running in x4
ive seen online that for gen4 raid0 can have a small increase to a large increase depending on whats being done
Sry, is there any subgroup here that would recommend me a build for 2500?:D
