1000-2000 nits?
Y...Yes >>
Something between "Man this is a great display" and "Is that my retinas cooking?"

LMao
For production stuff things are quite interesting
I still think the 32u is worth thinking about
If you're dead set on a 4090 that's a match made in heaven
What about the 32 qc?
Word
So M32Q
You could do 32q too
32q or 32u both would look good
Quite big, lots of screen real estate too for working
Ya ofc
I couldn't tell ya what hdr specifically off the top of my head
But I think it's hdr 600 and yes
OH! And do you know if it's 10bit or not?
Hdr should bring 10 bit
10 bit, 8 bit shouldn't really matter
What matters more is ycrbr444 or 422
Which it should come with already
What is that?
Hdr support implies 10 bit though
Colour format
Ah!
Most modern displays come with it so yeah, you should be fine
Okay cool
If I steped up to uh
the wq, the wide I guess. Am I sacrificing anything for the bigger real-estate?
I can't remember what the colour profile is on the 34wq
That'd be a good middle ground if it reviews well though
I think I'm gonna just go with the Q, 32 is plenty big enough, and I think it's going to give me the brightness and color range I need.
Now I just have to figure out what to do with my VIotek..
Also, thanks so very much for the help!
Use the viotek as a second screen
If it doesn't fit horizontal, get a cheap mount and place it vertical
No problem man, don't be afraid to see if you can try any of these in a store
I'm positive you have a reference screen to check after exporting
I used to do that too when my old macbook looked meh
Lmao, yeah, mostly just my phone or ipad. Or laptop. I'm sure it'll; be much nicer.
I wish we had a store to try them out
Ipad is a great one
They usually have really good screens
And very accurate
@serene dome one more thing
Here's a reference
Just so you can study up on it, huge resource of review testing
Ahhhhh, so it doesn't handle blacks well
In dark rooms
This is a natural habit of IPS
All monitors have some trade off
Unless you spend a fortune
VA can have bad text viewing or weird ghosting
TN iirc bad backlighting?
LCD is a can of worms
QLED can be excessively bright
Micro or mini LED have bloom issues
OLED is way too dark in a lot of situations
Ye
Sorry prattling off but thought you'd like to know the (or most of the) compromises for each screen type
It helps too cos you can add that into your work
No no no! I love that kind of stuff
I'm one of those people that like..Pour over information before making a purchase.
But you'd be spending a massive fortune for them, and they aren't good for anything else but what they intend to do
LG C2 also falls into that category too imo
One day oled
WOLED, HDR 1000(?), 4K, but most importantly rugged enough for PC
Might only be 600 but the nits doesn't matter too much
Colour and contrast are really important
Things OLED is great for lol
Them crispy blacks.
infinite contrast 👀
What are thoughts on curved vs flat
curved is meh most of the time cuz va, but if its ips or oled it really depends on the curve imo
Curved you take L's in monitor quality
1000r is way too much
But yeah some break that notion
Like G7, LG GNR
G9 goes brrr
@fading wyvern imagine curved ips
it exists
It wha
lmao

lg has a couple monitors ultrawides
Whaaaa

I don't remember the ips part
yeah they just cant have an extreme curve and usually cost a butt ton
no sleep only lg curved uw
LG curved uwu
anything that can support the weight, it shouldnt be very heavy... just get whatever you might want aesthetically
DID SOMEONE SAY OLED
does anyone know where to buy a usb c to display port adapter so i can not be limited to 120hz with hdmi on my mf 165hz monitor
1440p? Do you know the bandwidth limit of your USB C port?
Because it's probably lower than your HDMI
No, i dont know it
Its probably not very high now that i think about it, is it possible to find out?
And if its too low, are there other ports that would work? Like USB
the monitor is only 1080p
(trust me, it looks good)
also if anyone responds PLEASE ping me when you do i dont check this server too often
It's probably only 5 or 10 Gbps, and you'd need a 20 Gbps port to do 1080p 165Hz.
What version of HDMI does your device and monitor support? I'm assuming it's a laptop if it doesn't have DP.
Yes it is a laptop. I dont know anything about the versions. The monitor is a newer Asus one so it supports a newer HDMI, but the laptop is an older MSI (gl62 6qf, yk what im talking about you helped me set up win11 on it lol) so considering the age its probably not super good.
The HDMI port does output 120hz
Hmm. When I search that model laptop it comes up as having a mini dp port.
sorry lol always forget in this server
but anyway, it does, i didnt know lol
But the display cable i have is a full sized one, came with my monitor
Ok so it does have the mini dp next to the HDMI? That's an easy fix then. Either a mini to full size dp adapter or an adapter cable.
Yeah its next to the HDMI port.
... Is it just me or does the MSI site not have the manual in English
Habit lol
Well time to brush up on my spanish to see what version of dp that is
Lmao good luck
Ok good news is it's DP 1.2, which has 21 Gbps bandwidth
common MSI W
So will it support 165hz?
Yes
Here's a short cable that'll work. You probably don't need longer if it's on the desk with the monitor. https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Select-DisplayPort-Capable-115886/dp/B018HL6MQ4

Would 3feet reach to the side of the laptop shown on the shelf > behind my desk and to the monitor?
If not I’ll get 6 feet
Maybe do 6 feet since the port is on the wrong side relative to the monitor
Yeah sadly
I could always flip the laptop around because like i wouldnt mind saving some money, i have a little under 15 dollars left on this visa gift card i got so ill have 8 left if i get the 3ft
but if i really need to ill spend 12
This would be 50 cents cheaper for a 6ft https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0134V3KIA
Whoops wait
oh no
That's mini dp to hdmi for some reason
Why would they do that lol
SORRY
Thanks
what is a good monitor for about $300-$400
or a good pair of monitors around the same price
assuming gaming id say LG 27GP850-B
what about if i got a pair of monitors
but for a total of around 400 what should i get
if u NEED it now go with Acer Nitro XF243Y but its really not worth it buy a monitor for this cheap.
u could get like one $300 one and then another crappy one to use as a secondayr
its not a need but it is a want
heres a table if u want to look at stuff by rtings https://www.rtings.com/monitor/tools/table

What gpu and cpu do you have
Could do these together, if you plan to game at 1440p

i always try to do my own research, but I've found that you guys always have the best deals lol.
so i'm trying to find a 1080p144 monitor, do yall know the best deals? I'm thinking the z-edge ug24 ($120)
I'm ideally trying to get dual monitors, but whatever works works
This one is IPS so it'll have better, well, everything (except contrast maybe), than that VA panel https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1716NR3

okay, thanks
An important note for everyone:

kk
No that's pppppppppppppppp-
It came today, gonna try it in a few
Will let you know
It seems it’s working
I'll jump on it too if you pay for my ticket
I’m patiently waiting on new gen oled monitors
Someone brought back a 49in oled the other day tho and it’s pretty insane
i need qdoled gen 2 now
1080p or 1440p? What country?
i dont play many graphically intensive games so i would think 1080p
i dont know that much about monitors though so idk
im US
Cheapest one I'd do, since it's IPS (much better than any VA) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C1716NR3
The one I'd go for instead, better colors and response https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B5VY6ZFC

is there a major difference between 1080 and 1440 or should i be fine?
What GPU do you have?
i have a rx 580 but im upgrading to a 6650 xt
Probably best to stick to 1080p. The 6650 can do some 1440p but not at high detail.
get to level 3 with your name green to post pictures.
Ah damn I see
I’ll try
How to do that quick?
i don’t know whether or not to get an oled monitor or a just a 4k monitor for gaming because i’m scared of burn in. is it rly a big issue?
Buy from best buy...4 year warranty...no more worries
Enjoy
Use a secondary monitor for the desktop and programs, and have the OLED set to have no taskbar and rotate your desktop background regularly. Problem solved.
a solid black desktop would be best for oled right?
i used wall paper engine and it’s animated so shouldn’t be too bad no?
Technically yes
As long as the entire thing is animated and there's no spots that stay one color during the animation. White especially wears out the pixels.
My qled tv is flickering and I recently purchased it an I don’t know why
Which TV, which input, what settings have you tried changing?
Describe it with more detail, certain flickering can mean very different things
I sent a video
It comes and goes rn nothing is wrong
The CPU matters more for 1080p. To push 240 fps in a decent amount of games you'll need a pretty good one.
The monitor itself seems ok for the price.
i have a ryzen 5 3600 is that too outdated
That won't cut it
aight thanks
You'd be much better off saving some money and getting a good 144Hz
Model = LG 27" OLED 27GR95QE-B 240hz 1440p opinions on this model OLED anything bad about them?
I'm using the monitor right now
nothing bad about it
its just bright enough and the pixel cleaning procedure is every 4 hours
it only takes 10 mins
dont get samsung
QD-OLED isnt as durable
yet
what is pixel cleanings
like it’s self explanatory but do u do that manually
It's supposed to refresh the pixels to remove any chances of burn-in
It's automatic
But only when you shut off the monitor
9/10 I would recommend
The LG
word i got one for 750 and it has 3 year warranty still on it with 0 screen impurities
Nice find
Perfect
One of two OLED screens I can vouch for being good without concerns for pc gaming right now
@small warrenwhats the other?
C2
another lg simp

Can someone help to choose beteween the m27q and g27q, all I found is that m27q has kvm, 170hz while g27q has no kvm, 144hz. is that it? the g27q is ~120usd cheaper btw
G27q at that big of a price difference
One sec though I'm gonna take a look at what's similarly priced rn
Iirc this is good, but I'd probably wait for a second opinion https://pcpartpicker.com/product/qcxRsY/lg-27gn800-b-270-2560x1440-144-hz-monitor-27gn800-b
Can also look at rtings.com comparisons
Nice, ty again 🫡
That's actually a great deal
You probably won't make use of it without a 7900xtx, 4080 or 4090 though
Would definitely buy thay over m27q though
it is, only problem is that I live in saudi arabia. the shipping will prolly cost more than the monitor itself lol
Ahhh ok
G27q is a great monitor then, if it's a huge price difference for anything else it's not worth it imo
Yea the g27q has really great ratings and the price is pretty good as well I might go for it. just wanted to be extra sure
Since when has asrock made monitors?
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/jfrqqs/asrock-pg27q15r2a-270-2560-x-1440-165-hz-curved-monitor-pg27q15r2a
Like forever bro
SO LONG
LIKE, AS FAR AS I CAN REMEMBER
(8 months?)
(idk my memory not great)
8 months lol
That's a very long time how could you even use 8 months of memory
Do you remember what you had for breakfast 8 days ago cos I don't
No fr what did I eat my life depends on it

Yes but only because i only have the same thing every day
I upgraded from 16gb a long time ago for future proofing
Lmao
be ready for judgement, what do eat every morning
Orange juice and a fulfill protein bar, sometimes an apple
good, i approve
i have upgraded my pc to ryzen 7 7800x3d and a 7900xtx and i want to upgrade to a 4k monitor, currently i have a 32in ultra wide 3440x1440, should I go with 2 27 or look for another UW monitor?
I'd go 32" non uw because 27/28" 4k is a bit pointless imo and going 4k uw would be more intense on your gpu because it's a lot more pixels
i'm looking at a pair of LG ultragear UHD 32's 32GQ950B
M32U or FV43U
Both really good
Or go all in on a 42" LG C2
You could rotate or buy a mount for the UW screen and use that on top/to the side of the main screen, or flip it even
34" UW with decent specs you'll get at least a couple or few hundred for
would a 7900xtx beable to push this at max settings?
In what games? If it's your regular comp game, it should be able to
cyperpunk, starwars, star citizen
Definitely not to 240hz
That monitor is just under 7.4mil pixels
4k non uw is just under 8.3 mil
So it'll be better than 4k but still not 240hz at 4k
Basically
Current monitor i bought back in 2015 Acer Predator 34-inch Curved UltraWide QHD (3440 x 1440) NVIDIA G-Sync Widescreen Display (X34 bmiphz) Now just looking for a good upgrade with hdr10 fast refresh 1440 or 4k
The only real upgrade from what you have is OLED.
Pray that you do not receive defective oversaturated panel like the one I saw at Best buy
I think HUB said that the only major issues they had were solved in a firmware update
Yep mostly fixed https://youtu.be/jTvqGFBPIw4?t=167

HDR1000 mode is much improved
ill 1st gen qd oled, id be sus
It's pretty much par so far on the accelerated longevity test compared to other oleds
i mean for burn in
but it still burns in easily, hardware unboxed had burn in after a year of use
Don't they basically use a torture test for that though
Was wondering if anyone knew of a decent Male HDMI/DisplayPort 1.4 to Female type C converter, trying to use my link cable with my quest 2 but my IO shield prevents me from plugging the cable in all the way so I'm trying to just connect it directly to my GPU.
I know of replacement cables for that, not so much adapters
Because finding an adapter that's female on both ends is really tricky
Or even a female C to DP male
i wish i just bought the gpu with the type c port already in it
, I had an add on type-C card before that I used to keep it charging while playing but it stopped supplying increased wattage one day and only transmitted data
Ah the PD circuit died in it, rip
Was the quest 2 one of the ones that needs a right angle USB C
right angle for the end that plugs into the headset
I wonder if I could go "Plus Ultra Redneck" and get a type-c splitter with a cable going to the PC and another cable going to my 40000mah power bank and rubberband it to the back of the headstrap
Ah I looked into it a bit more and you cannot get displayport working with the quest 2. It doesn't support direct video input.
bummer
i think it was 5hrs/day but dont quote me
asus ❤️

Okay so I have a 48 inch monitor main screen for PC, I have tried these 27 inch monitors vertical and it really feels like there isnt enough width to them when taking notes/ blah blah. Is there any sort of "Square or wider version of these?" The heigh is absolutely perfect
I'm almost thinking it might be better to go vertical for me and would love to see stacked monitors on something that big
Usually you get 16:9 or 21:9 so same width in that case if vertical, sometimes you get 16:10 but that's pretty rare
I'll double check waht I have that wasnt somethign I considered lol
Its "fine" but not great idk i'm just not happy with it
depends on model
good tv for under 500?
no i gotta read 😔
uh
ily 😘
jw
whats the change in tv specs
do they rlly get better each release
thought u didnt wanna read
i did read
is this like a total loss of the screen it’s a 27in lg oled that i just recently bought and it has 70 hours of use.
i do have a 3 year warranty to microcenter tho but would hate to go through the drive and hassle
also has done this on multiple games
The flickering could be an automatic brightness feature over-correcting, try turning that off
i will give that a shot. it seems to be triggered when like i hover over different operator icons or where i’m spawning but not when i’m loaded in and playing.
Huh
I have the same monitor. Flickering also depends on the game
I've only encountered it while playing Stray when a scene is very dim
update: it no longer flickers
👍
will overclocking my pg42uq from 120 to 138hz increase burn in risk

no
As long as the temperature doesn't increase, which is typically from bright elements on screen and not refresh rate
and hdmi 2.1 can do 4k 138hz 10but hdr right?
i feel like they would need to sacrifice something to hit the OC, so i dont know if theres a reason to do it
Yes but you might have to do 4:2:2 or use DSC
about those giant ultrawide monitors... how does one safely move those things. Seems like a nightmare, personally i wrap my monitor in towels and clothing and put them in a duffel bag that fits them.
do display port 1.4a cables exist or is that like a thing for the monitor and gpu and a 1.4 cable will work fine for dsc
also do i need to enable DSC anywhere or is it auto if my monitor supports it. Cause i had to switch to hdmi 2.1 because my monitor would keep going black every 10-15 minutes for like 1-2 seconds on display port but on hdmi it was fine but im capped to 120hz and i just kinda want the 144hz cause i paid for it
Best thing to do is keep the original box with foam inserts
yeah good idea
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16824011408?Item=N82E16824011408 seems like a decent price, not sure how valuble adaptive sync is but i am using radeon gpu, thoughts?
Which radeon gpu
6750xt
What games do you wanna play
destiny, assasins creed, deep rock, war thunder, fortnite, RL, maybe wow, sometimes CSGO
maybe halo infinite if it ever revives lol
I might start using blender, or some autocad type software cause I’ve been wanting to get back into that but it’s not like a passion or a big need or anything
afaik fortnite would struggle at 4k with a 6750xt
War thunder especially. It makes my 3080 ti cry at 1440p.
4k60 is mostly suited for secondary monitors
it was the best one for my price range lol, it doesn't hurt to have a good primary monitor though right? or if its pointless any recs? trying to spend less than 200
and yeah lol i know im not running those two at max
That monitor wouldn't be good as a primary monitor for gaming
G27q is $230 right now, 1440p 144hz
That would be a lot better
Or 27q might still be on sale for $210
X27?
I dont trust this brand, but this is cheap https://www.amazon.com/KOORUI-FreeSync-Compatible-2560x1440-DisplayPort/dp/B0B1B3VZLD
link?
also i meant the gpu was the best for my price range lol
its possible i upgrade in the future though would it hurt to be prepared or is it just not worth?
It's a 4k 60hz monitor, a 1440p high refresh is a much better gaming experience
As you'll both get higher frames and see more frames due to the lower resolution and screen refreshing more often
4k high refresh rate can be worth it, but I wouldn't try to run 4k on anything less than a 6900xt/4070 ti
And even that's only if you really want 4k, personally I'd do 1440p even on a 7900xtx or 4080, but 4k is extremely doable on those and 4090
The only difference I could see was the 27Q isn't HDR, but I'm totally fine with that. Low end HDR sucks and isn't worth using anyway.

I like hdr on my x27q
Especially in valorant it's really nice
Streaming and taking screen shots it gets weird though
Look nice, gotta get a tall mount for it though to put over my current monitor, or a new desk to expand horizontally lol
Just bought a vg27aql1a and a vesa mount but I cant attach it cuz of the rubber. Any idea?
I hope i didnt buy the wrong vesa arm 💀
those rubber things hold the back plate thing in place?
Nah just unimportant nuisance. Got them out after I got my hand messed up
could always use a knife/screwdriver and stab them out
I stole this thingie from my dad’s garage and it actually worked lol
Oledoledoled
That’s not the mandolorian
Ik......it will pass
u guys know any cheap monitors that i can use as a second monitor?
Cheapest 1080p 60hz/75hz VA or IPS panel you find
Or if ips is within like $10 of VA I'd spend the little extra
could you possibly link some?

Anybody have an opinion on the Samsung g70a monitor vs the gigabyte m28u
Both 28" 4k 144hz hdr etc
At work so I'll check back later and see if anyone responds.
Just ping me if you do, pls
Both are basically the same
But I would go with the m28u
What about the AOC U27G3X?
Someone in another server told me that Samsung and gigabyte's customer service can both be a bit dicey, which hopefully wouldn't become an issue but I know better than to just hope for the best in that regard after owning an Acer monitor for a couple years.
That monitor is a big unknown
I'm finding it a little difficult to find information about it
Unknown isn't always bad but certainly risky
Yes
I'm already using all 3 outputs on my GPU (7900xt) and would like to add another (hopefully 2). Is there a better solution than a 2nd GPU for multi-monitor setups these days? Is DP MST still a thing?
I'm currently running a 1440p ultrawide + 2x1440p (16:9) displays on a 7900xt. I'd like to replace the ultrawide since it's kinda a headache for gaming, but i figure i'll need to use 2 displays (prob new primary 4k + a vertical 1080 or 1440) to not bork my usual workflow.
I believe the max displays for the 7900XT is 4
you could add a secondary gpu, or if you have an igpu, use the mobo for the 5th one*
you'd want to run low refresh on those monitors tho cos the graphics oomph of lower power hardware (especially igpu's) is lackluster at best
quick example
I tried 4K 60 video on my little 1650, the thing was running at full tilt 😂
and that's not even an iGPU
video is a bit more demanding than say, windows of browsers, office work etc, but the point still holds some salt
I'm only doing anything heavy on the primary 2 displays -- all the extras are just for slack/dashboards etc.
no iGPU i think (5800x3d)
I think my current plan is a DP MST hub for the dashboard screens and just convince myself I don't really need a 5th right now. 👍
You can get a monitor that supports DP daisy chaining
Are you saying I'm losing performance in my games on my main monitor by running all my monitors at their max refresh rate?
4 on GPU / 1 on igpu
Theoretically no but in practice maybe
Interesting. I'll check it out when I get home.
Yes but no
What benefits/cons are there to doing this?
Depending on the DP version used your refresh rate might be limited
The single cable has to have enough bandwidth for both monitors
Makes sense.
That can mostly be solved with DSC anyway, but then you have a compressed image
I can't tell the difference personally but it'll vary by you and your hardware
ok
how much do you think i could get for this m27FA? used for 10 months have stand as well that was never used and the monitor still has plastic on it. 1080p 165hz and has kvm switch.
Not worth that much, get an oled at that price https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/lg/32gq950-b
Like this one, great price right now https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lg-42-class-c2-series-oled-evo-4k-uhd-smart-webos-tv/6501500.p?skuId=6501500
But I will use the monitor for work and entertainment (gamin,movies...etc)
Also I don't have spece for 42 inch monitor 😅
I suggest the M32U instead then https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083GRVFXN
31.5" SS IPS 3840 x 2160 4K Display Gaming Monitor 144Hz Refresh Rate, 1ms (GTG) Response Time, Supports FreeSync Premium Pro 8-bit color / 90% DCI-P3 / 123% sRGB / VESA DisplayHDR 400 Connect and control multiple devices with KVM OSD Sidekick, PiP /PbP, Dashboard, Black Equalizer, Game Assist, A...
It's not as bright but it's half the price
And just as good for office work, movies, games, etc
whenever I type my monitor starts to wobble
My desk isn’t the best so I’m wondering if there is something I can buy to help stop wobbling
Depends how flimsy the desk is
You could brace it to the wall? That would stop wobbling
The thicker or more solid the desk, the less flimsy or prone to vibrations it is
But also fastening it to the wall would stop practically all of it, cos you know, houses are big and practically unmoving 💀
also could be if it’s mounted on a bad monitor arm
Can someone recommend me a monitor for 400-500?
What GPU do you have and what will it be used for?
3070ti and mostly gaming
Ok, you could probably do 1440p high refresh pretty comfortably with that. Do you have a size in mind?
27Q 27Q
Thinking of doing 32” but 27” is fine too

That would be fine as an entry level one but the budget allows for a higher class option

Thx I will look into it
Anyone have any 1440p/4k gaming monitor suggestions, minimum 144hz, 1ms or better response time can be curved or flat
budget
also why do u need 1ms response time, not even most oleds have that
if u REALLY need <1ms than samsung oled Odyssey g9 is your best bet https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/samsung/odyssey-oled-g9-g95sc-s49cg95. But its pricy
The "1ms response" that they advertise is fake marketing anyway, a lot of the time ones that are advertised as that can't do 1ms on even a single transition
Samsung Odyssey G7 27 Wide-QHD Curved Gaming Monitor - Black. Is this a good monitor?
You can definitely get a better one for the price
Is this any better? Acer Nitro XV272UXbmiipruzx 27 Inch Quad HD Gaming Monitor
Ideally would like a 1440p 240hz. I’m not sure about curved monitors. Idk if they’re ideal for gaming
The one that's over $400 used, $800 new, on Amazon? Yes that's a good one. The used one from amazon warehouse is a decent deal too.
Curved usually means it has a worse panel
But not always, on these high budget monitors
The Dell AW2723DF for example is a good one
Any good?
400 pounds including delivery, yes that's quite good
£315 for me
Oh wait I forgot to turn on my VPN
Yeah it was trying to deliver to the US lol
315 is even better
It's a higher refresh version of this https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/nitro-xv272u-kvbmiiprzx
The primary specs are quite similar
I guess for that price I won’t find anything better
Not at that refresh rate that's for sure
Price aside is the actual monitor good?
I was thinking about Alienware but it’s slightly out my budget
Yes, that's normally a very expensive monitor, it's $680 on the Acer store, and it's almost worth that much imo
That should be fine, it's sold by amazon warehouse so either the box was damaged in transit (but not the items inside) or it's a customer return
I wish I could have found a deal like this when I was looking for a monitor a while back, this is a really nice one
Yeah i just bought it lol. I really wanted an Alienware but this deal seemed to good to pass up
If the acer wasn't that cheap I would have recommended this one https://www.overclockers.co.uk/lg-32-32gq850-b-2560x1440-nano-ips-240hz-1ms-freesync-g-sync-hdr-hdmi-2.1-w-mo-16w-lg.html
32” seems like it might be too big haha
I currently game on 27 and it seems perfect
Is this one better than the one I got? Acer Nitro XV272X 27" Gaming Monitor IPS QHD LCD 2560 x 1440 240Hz Refresh Rate
It's hard to tell without a detailed comparison, I'd say they're very close based on what info is available
Appreciate the help
lol looked like it
is the extra 50 or so bucks worth it when getting an ips panel instead?
HDR10 basically means it can accept a HDR signal but it has no actual spec requirements, like brightness
So HDR can recreate a brighter color without needing higher peak brightness?
No, if a color is trying to be displayed out of the brightness range of the monitor then it'll appear darker and possibly distorted
struggling to decide what monitor to get for my set up looking at 1440p maybe 4k depending on price, needs to be 144hz or higher, 1ms or better response, screen type doesnt matter to much
1ms is all marketing fluff anyway unless it's an oled
gigabyte offers great value 165-170hz 1440p monitors
something like g27q
Oh okay.
What WQHD monitors do you guys recommend within the $500 range out of curiosity?
m27q
wait for that price you could get a G7
I'll G7 u in a minute
honest if u have the gpu for it, could go 4k with an M27U, which is IPS
27" 4k tho, really squashed desktop and game UI
I considered the M--U monitors but I'd personally prefer a Ultra Wide.
What do you mean by squashed?
You mean that it shrinks the ui?
In some games yes. Not every game knows how to scale the UI properly, especially older ones. So in those cases the UI is rendered with a specific resolution in mind, and it's only going to be a certain number of pixels in size. More area on the screen for pixels means things look smaller if they're not scaled up, and this is exaggerated on smaller screens.
Oh I gotcha now.
Anyone know of any good deals on a 34" 1440p ultra wide monitors? Hopefully around $280.
Not at that price, the only one I can find that cheap is trash
Thoughts?
A friend of mine has them and has had no complaints, they look nice and the mounting that comes with looks perfect for my setup
awful price, 1080p is to low a resolution for 27" monitor tbh, youll see pixels
what gpu do you have @mental island
6750xt
If you're in the US I'd definitely get this instead
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JPrYcf/gigabyte-g27q-270-2560x1440-144-hz-monitor-g27q
Yeah 1080p at that price point is laughable
Even good 240hz 1080p monitors I've seen as low as $150
G27q is a much better option, especially being cheaper
If you're in the US I'd definitely get this instead
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/JPrYcf/gigabyte-g27q-270-2560x1440-144-hz-monitor-g27q
Huh the message sent twice? Weird
Ye
It's just happy to be here
I’d like it to be curved just because I tend to enjoy it better, do you have any recs like that but curved? I don’t know what to look for really
Curved is often va anyway, which is most of the times inferior
And the curve is really subtle
To my knowledge there aren't really any amazing curved options for that gpu
Even some of the better ones I've suggested in the past have some issue here or there
Or some sacrifice for picture quality, feature set etc
It's good
However the QC (curved variant) is a big pass
I totally get the appeal of the curve, big reason I kept my G7
But yeah vs something like, a HP X27? Gigabyte G24F 2? M27Q? G27Q? I'd say not really worth all that extra for the curve
Real, esp not since I’m not trying to spend more than like 250 a screen + I still need to get wall mounts :,)
Amazon has good options
guys I have a ryzen 7 5700x with rtx 4060 should I get 144hz 1440p or 240hz 1080p
Depends on what you play
what monitor would you recommend?
I want 27"
something ips with gysnc would be good right?
If you're set on 27" then you want 1440p, unless you sit more than 3 feet back from the monitor
Never heard of it
oh
If you're going to do 1080p then 24" is an ideal size
so if 27" then 1440p?
Yes
For a lower budget option, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C171KBM3?th=1

I can't find something 240hz 24" from lg
One of the best well rounded gaming monitors https://www.rtings.com/monitor/reviews/acer/predator-xb273u-gxbmiipruzx
Regular retail price is closer to $600 but it goes on sale as low as $500, the refurbished deal is really nice
okay thanks for this
but
would you recommend something from lg
with nani ips @misty gyro ?
nano ips
Best LG 1440p without going OLED https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B093MTSTKD
27” UltraGear Full HD (1920x1080) IPS Display, 16:9. Beauty in every battle with IPS and Full HD resolution. Reimagine every scene with vivid, responsive IPS. 144hz and 240hz is it big of a difference and what do you recommend going @misty gyro
Unless you're in the top 0.01% of gamers on esports titles then you very likely won't notice the difference
Ok then if you are also set on LG this is basically the only option https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08V85XBFZ
They don't seem to make a lot of 24" 1080p stuff
they don't have gsync?
I mean
do you find gysnc useful @misty gyro or no?
oh thanks
I can vouch for this monitor, amazing thing for little money
Welp, I've just been humbled
Had a good lesson in OLED tech today, learned that a lot of the new stuff is not defined better simply by the white sub-pixel layout of woled
So better firmware and quality improvements, qc are more the reason than it ever was by the pixel layout
So it leads me to an interesting outcome
I can still recc the LG cos of it's 350 nit max brightness, but not the others
Cos it's simply too dark to be concerning for burn-in

Gonna wait for the others for burn-in testing long term
Big list, the LG 240hz holding up well so far (but the only one in the list)
What's the difference between nano ips and OLED anyways? In like a clarity and responsiveness sort of thing?
I don't know display tech much
Was gonna come here and ask about that OLED LG anyways
Vibrant colour and clarity of the OLED sounds extremely nice but then price and budget exists
($1000 on a bloody monitor)
OLED isn't really known for being clearer than any other display tech, but it is more vibrant and has superb contrast( black levels)@chilly dawn
And if you're a gamer, it has the fastest response time available on the market
I do primarily game on my machine
Now nano IPS isn't really a big deal
Readability is a tad higher importance then normal, do a lot of CS and TF2 trading and whatnot
I've heard about it that's about it tbh
It's better than IPS from many years ago...but it's still inferior to OLED in every way besides brightness and affordability
@chilly dawn you would benefit in CS and TS if you're on OLED
Less motion blur
Ah
I've seen a 240hz IPS vs a 240 OLED, there's almost none on the last
Most I've used is my current monitor
Doubt it's the best at all lol
165hh HP monitor
Lemme see if I can find the name
But if you're still a bit worried about OLED's longevity...wait next year
It's a good monitor.
I've had it for about a year
If you still feel like it's doing the job, no need to upgrade
But if you go OLED l, you'll never go back lol
I'm sorta used to "babying" OLED stuff
If that's the term
Not letting static images on for too long
You don't have to. Are you in the US?
Don't really use it in super long sessions
That's good
Yeah, my family had always had OLED TV's since they really hit it off in my area, been using the OLED switch since launch and whatnot
The monitors should be better about babying then I'd hope
Yeah
If you want the most balanced OLED currently available, get the LG
The lowest I've seen it is $800
Expensive ik
Yeah
Just didn't know if the bite was worth it yet
Fancy 3D model
The reviews seem kinda iffy thought
I hear it has bad settings in box
Yeah.. not for me lol. I leave my monitors on with my desktop showing every night for at least 8 hours while I sleep xD
I don't leave my phone screen on for sure. I don't even use the AOD. But I've had my monitors 2 years and have always left them on, sometime all day while I'm out and about. No burn in, then again.. not oled
It's really good...if you have the LG C2 or older ...you shouldn't be complaining about the brightness. The only problem I have is occasionally I get black screens......must be my gpu drivers
I play games in a relatively darker room
Brightness isn't really an issue for me
Don't need to be flashbanged both in CSGO and irl
Then pull the trigger and get
It
It's really good
240hz is heavenly
The only limit I feel now is myself
I'd get the Alienware but it wouldn't fit in my room lol
Yeah, I'll try it with the monthly payments
I think Amazon has decent warranty with these
$230 down, $170 for the next 4 months
It's like, I can afford it in full, just easier with payments
thanks for all the help and advice @silent epoch
I saw it at best buy. I wasn't sure if it was a defective model, but the color saturation appeared way too high
Could be weird factory settings?
I know this LG sounds like it has...bad settings from factory
I went through all the settings. It was nauseating.
Idk
Must have been a fluke
Odd
Ultra wide is cool, but where I play more comp/emulation stuff
16:9 is still better for my situation
Same
I dont
gonna get this, need to figure out mounting though ive got two choices that look nice
thoughts on either? im eventually going to get 2 monitors so the investment is worth it for the pole one
i think the wall mount might look better though and will transcend any desk upgrades i may (will) make (my desk is so bad)
actually that amazon one does not tilt, i kinda need tilt
I'd recommend getting a desk mounted gas pump one
Also stacking monitors vertically is kinda neck breaking
i dont mind vertical, im used to it
do you mean gas spring?
Yeah that's probably the right term
Basically means they're super easy to adjust and move around
I believe I have something like that
I recommend them as well
They're usually not too expensive and atleast in my case (I'll assume, average 27 inch monitor) It holds the monitor pretty well in whatever place input it
I put*
Went for wall mounted gas spring, I don’t care about damaging my walls and as I’ve said I don’t mind the verticality
Next on the list is new desk???
Also micro center coming to NC lfg!!! (It’s in charlotte which is far away tho
)
I am looking at 1440p 120-180hz monitors between 300-450 USD
Any help?
also is the MSI G274QPF-QD identical to the MAG274QRF-QD that's in the Monitor Hunter's guide?
👀
G27q, 27q, m27q, m27q-p
X32, m32q
All of those ^
Why only Gigabyte?...
Def gonna do a small road trip when it’s been built (expected opening early 2024)
Wish it was near Raleigh though, we have zero tech shops despite being a massive center of tech businesses
27q and x32 are hp
But mainly because g27q and m27q are some of the best "budget" 1440p monitors
LG has some good 1440p monitors that are a bit better quality but I don't remember the model names
LG 27GP850-B?
Not a clue
Check rtings
Use the compare tool to compare g27q/m27q to whatever other monitors you're considering
The ones they listed are usually the cheapest good ones that's why
Check rtings, monitors unboxed/hardware unboxed, toms hardware etc and look at monitor reviews
Blackhole there's a few good asus or LG models but HP/GB have good naming.
I'm looking at the TUF VG27AQ1A currently
I'd eye the non-1A version, better stand & maybe $40ish cheaper.
Hey all, sorryb if this is the wrong area to post/ask.
New the the PC master race land and i just bought a pre built. Had a monitor my friend gave me to try for now until i can get a better one.
But the pc doesn't have the Port for the type of cable they gave me.
They say an HDMI should work if i can get one.
Should i just get a new cable in the mean time?
its probably display port, if you have a cord that will work use that if not you can get a new cable yeah but when you buy a monitor you get a cable in the box with it so it wouldnt be nescessary to buy
The "pc master race" sounds so Aryan racish, why did anyone create that term
Because a lot of people feel superior to others because of their tangible qualities (in this case what they possess)
You're right about the connotation
Yeah good point
What gpu and monitor? We can narrow down what exactly you need
I believe the gpu is 4060.
As for monitor is an old samsung s24d300h i was given.
Anything helps.
https://www.newegg.com/p/3D5-001U-001F3?Item=9SIAZEBJZZ0752
Here's what i ordered
Ah cool. I'm new to all this so i don't like to assume the bare minimum is included
Yep that monitor is HDMI only, no displayport
Oof
Luckily you don't need anything fancy https://www.amazon.com/High-Speed-HDMI-Cable-Laptop/dp/B082FMHMJP
Ooh thank you.
O.o man that's cheap
Yep, if you only need a basic one they are dirt cheap
Any hdmi cable should be able to do 1080p 60hz
1440p I'm assuming?
Yup
Get oled monitor
Go to Windows settings
"HDR not supported"
Thanks windows
Can't find anything online that'll fix it
I'm using the DP cable that was in the box
1.4
Lol...what the heck? That shouldn't be happening
Are you running windows 11?
When I do 240hz, it drops from 10bit to 8bit
Yeah
I will help you. Give me a few minutes
Kk
How do you find out what the bit rate is?
Just in advanced display
I had to enable 1.4(dsc) but now 10 bit works in 240hz
Idk why
Huh
Can't find anything online about it
Found a reddit forum that said to turn on HDR mode on the monitor, then windows will let you use HDR
(It didn't work)
hmmm
Kinda disappointed if it's a Windows thing
I've heard people having HDR issues on win 11
you did toggle on HDR in windows right?
Can't even enable it in Windows
what gpu do you have?
6800xt
oh
try another DP cable
This is the one that came with the monitor
Ugh
I'll try the DP cable change tomorrow, don't really wanna dig out my PC again
I'll just wait till then
did you try HDMI?
No, I usually just default to DP
Love everything else about the monitor
Feels much more "clear" in a game
Whatever that's supposed to mean, idk how to describe it
Very pretty colour wise
WAIT A SEC
@chilly dawn did u enable HDR pciture mode on the monior?
use the remote
it seems to be an AMD issue
you will have to DDU
Dunno what ddu is
@chilly dawn this is from 10 months ago....but this could still be relevant
but do a DDU first
AMD brilliance strikes again
this is why I stick to NVIDIA
I shrimply blame win 11
maybe
but over here i can do 10-bit HDR no problem
There's no real RTX card I'd wanna upgrade to tbh
Exactly
There's no real sensible purchase past this for me
Even without hdr the monitor is gorgeous
yeah
but youre not using all of its capabilities
damn
@chilly dawn tell me when u finish that DDU
kk
yep
hm
the latest
Just get newest amd GPU driver?
All the sudden HDR works now?
I didn't install anything
it works???
Yeah
nice
Didn't download anything
Dunno if I should update adrenaline or what
Now windows says it's supported
dumb computers
they sometimes fix themselves
nice
now go on youtube and watch a few HDR videos
I was gonna check out FH5 or Hitman with HDR
I've heard Forza anyways shows it real well
(still have zero clue what HDR even does)
eeeeh
its ok
@chilly dawn https://youtu.be/mkggXE5e2yk?si=wy9vOMdwU8rbwdLd
Video created by LG to promote their TVs. Buy a Chromecast Ultra for your 4K HDR TV: https://bhpho.to/2ry54y5
To view this video in real HDR you need a 4K HDR TV and a device with YouTube HDR such as Chromecast Ultra.
If you are viewing this video on an SDR (normal non-HDR TV) the color and contrast may not look correct.
watch this
its the best imo
Chromecast ultra
make sure hdr 1440p60 is on
It looks like a video you'd see at Best buy or something
But at my best guys they look like they leave a 1080p video on a 4k tv
can you rephrase that lol
100
Weird to see blacks on a monitor and not slightly weird grays
ikr
Definitely not complaining this monitor is a huge upgrade

I remember reviews saying it wasn't bright enough of a monitor
you see it now
ive learned to not trust online reviews on display tech
If only we ever got the later stages of Initial D above 720p
Colour wise it's amazing
Resolution has much to be desired
I think I need to download GPU drivers either way, hope I can install an earlier version
just dont sit too close. problem solved
True
Same with audio
Or phone reviews tbh
Yep
People used to $1000 phones and are like
"This $200 phone isn't nearly as good as what I thought"
