cursive oracle
#

Is it cheaper to buy or build a mechanical KB with Bluetooth?

#

The Newegg seems to have nice deals on Bluetooth keyboards. Should I get one for my PC, and can a mouse use the same BT adapter?

snow briar
neon root
#

corsair and razer i think are able to share their own adapters for their peripherals but only certain models

#

me personally though i wouldnt recommend corsair peripherals

cursive oracle
#

What deals does Corsair have right now?

#

Also, I don’t think the branding matters much outside of gaming.

snow briar
#

If razer also has that feature I’d also suggest going for razer…

cursive oracle
#

Can either work?

snow briar
#

You can’t mix and match them, corsairs software hits cpu performance hard

neon root
#

not really

cursive oracle
#

Software for kb?

neon root
#

icue for corsair stuff

#

icue only hurts the cpu usage if youre doing really crazy lighting profiles with a lot of corsair products at once

#

if its just solid or even just 1~4 simple effects its gonna stay below 1% cpu usage

snow briar
#

Not even crazy stuff some of the easy ones can jump usage up by 10%

cursive oracle
#

wait why does the keyboard have software

#

is this a thing

neon root
#

for the rgb and certain other things, yes

cursive oracle
#

isnt it just plug and play

#

or sync and play

#

oh

snow briar
#

Firmware updates and lighting

neon root
#

it is plug an play but if you want to customize the lighting or do macros or change other things then you need the software

cursive oracle
#

what are the fw updates

#

i prefer one color

snow briar
#

Usually done through software

neon root
snow briar
#

You can always set a color and exit out of the software

snow briar
neon root
#

certain products from both razer and corsair also allows you to save profiles to the hardware so you can uninstall after if you want

cursive oracle
#

but do bt kb have a way to plug them in for more reliable wired updates?

#

also

#

i would upgrade my current one

#

but its wired

snow briar
#

Usually you’d plug in whenever you need a charge and for most if not all you’d need to have any wireless gear plugged in for firmware updates

cursive oracle
#

do mechanical keyboards use usb-c

#

for charging

neon root
#

Depends on who makes them

cursive oracle
#

corsair or razer

neon root
#

Some keyboards still use micro and some use usb c

cursive oracle
#

oof to micro

snow briar
#

Rip Logitech

cursive oracle
#

can i upgrade most newer keyboards to mechanical

neon root
#

Well keyboards are either mechanical or they’re not

#

There’s no upgrading a keyboard to a mechanical one

cursive oracle
#

okay

#

mine might be mechanical based on the keys

#

what makes it mechanical

#

as opposed to membrane

neon root
#

The switches

cursive oracle
#

so if they’re blue

#

useless?

neon root
#

Blue switches not useless but they’re loud and annoying

cursive oracle
#

are there color codes

snow briar
#

Yup

neon root
#

Kinda. Each switch has their own name and they each do something different

#

Kinda a hole to get into everything but the main switches you’ll see are blue, red, and browns

#

Corsair has other options too like silvers and stuff

cursive oracle
#

is brown also orange?

neon root
#

Razer has their in-house green switches

cursive oracle
#

ive heard both

neon root
#

No, orange are different

cursive oracle
#

oh

neon root
#

Ye there’s a lot of switches

cursive oracle
#

what are red and brown

#

im glad these have color codes

#

unlike modern pci slots

neon root
#

Red switches are linear switches which kinda feel smooth and don’t require you to press down as much. Brown switches are tactile which means there’s a bump that you can feel when pressing down on it which also tends to require a bit more force to press on them

cursive oracle
#

how much do mech kb kits go for

#

w/ red switches

#

red sound like my fave

snow briar
#

Do you still want bt/dongle

cursive oracle
#

yee

neon root
#

Kits themselves go for a decent amount but you can just find a mechanical keyboard with red switches in them. Corsair and Razer both have mechanical keyboards with red switches

cursive oracle
#

i have the dongle

#

but do they need a custom dongle

snow briar
#

I’d just go with a razer prebuilt keyboard

neon root
#

They have their own dongles

snow briar
#

They come with it

cursive oracle
#

what deal does that razer one have rn?

#

wait..

#

these go for over 100 usd

snow briar
#

Yeah, most of anything Bluetooth will be 100+

#

Besides mice and keychron

cursive oracle
#

if i do usb c without bluetooth

neon root
#

Ye, most big name brands will charge a bit for their keyboards like Corsair, Razer, Logitech, etc.

cursive oracle
#

and touchpad over mouse

#

can that go for under 100

neon root
#

You can also go to other brands as well that aren’t big brand and look at stuff like royal kludge and stuff

cursive oracle
#

are they upgradable if they’re not what i hope

neon root
#

With Corsair and Razer, yes and no if you’re talking about the switches

snow briar
#

If you really want cheap Bluetooth keychron is probably your best choice for a keyboard. They also make hotswap boards

cursive oracle
#

does royal kludge use usb c

neon root
#

With Corsair and Razer their switches are soldered so you’d have to do some soldering if you want to change the switches

cursive oracle
#

oh okay

snow briar
neon root
#

And yes royal kludge does do usb c

cursive oracle
#

kb

#

not the pc

neon root
#

And they have some Bluetooth options

snow briar
#

Ah kk just double checking

cursive oracle
#

i have a usb c to a cable

#

that i use for nintendo stuff…
(haxxors know)

#

but i saw royal kludge bt for 38 blue mech

#

the red mech is 43

#

ill get the red mech

#

not a huge diff

snow briar
#

It’s a bit pricey tho so maybe the one you’re talking about is better

#

Oh Mac layout my b right they almost all use Mac layouts….

neon root
#

what size keyboard are you looking for, mova?

cursive oracle
#

Any, I don't need a numerical keypad.

#

61-key is fine.

#

Is a used Royal Kludge kb okay?

#

34 USD for the 61-key, red switches.

neon root
#

they have some deals going on rn for new. they have one at 44

cursive oracle
#

I found a used one at 34.

#

Are used products okay from Newegg?

neon root
#

depends on the product youre getting used. me personally id say just get new because you dont know what was done to the keyboard or if theres anything wrong with it and how thorough amazon is with checking used products

cursive oracle
#

The 34-buck one is being shipped from a Chinese seller.

#

Meaning it'll take ages.

#

Huge pass this time. It was one thing with GPU, but not this.

neon root
#

for the most part with some of these keyboards they are from a chinese seller, just depnds on who the shipper is

cursive oracle
#

yeah 'twas what i meant

#

Can these Bluetooth devices work on systems that have integrated Bluetooth of their own, such as Xbox and PlayStation?

neon root
#

it should but dont know the support for either because i havent been following up with either company as to what their compatibility is. xbox i do know that keyboard and mouse works wired but dont know about wireless for all products

cursive oracle
#

(In reality, I'm trying to find one that works on a Linux distro for Switch. L4T really unlocked some cool capabilities of the Tegra X1.)

neon root
#

i just freaking realized something

#

you said touchpad instead of a mouse?

cursive oracle
#

either can work

#

it doesn't have to be a touchpad

#

Switch has built-in bt, so a separate kb and mouse can work on that Linux distro if they're both bt.

#

But if I do get a mouse, can a low-end one work?

neon root
#

yeah should work

cursive oracle
#

tbh this is meant for both my PC and Switch(root)

#

but thank you

#

How much should a bt mouse go for?

#

Can a $15 one work?

neon root
#

depends on what kind of mouse you want since theres cheap ones too

cursive oracle
#

Also, can one bt dongle work for multiple devices?

neon root
#

theyre advertised for home entertainment systems but should be compatible with pc's too

cursive oracle
#

Cheaper for me to get the separate bt kb and mouse.

#

But thank you.

neon root
#

true, but just completely forgot those kinds of keyboards existed which also kinda fit your needs

cursive oracle
#

no worries

#

so did i

After fresh install my Valve VR Index and Focusrite(using Rode mic) both randomly restart. This gets much worse if I stream in discord. I tried every possible usb reinstall, wipe, disconnecting devices one at a time or changing ports. I dont notice any issues with running games themselves 4k 120hz very high settings or such. only when usb is involved. My mouse and keyboard dont seem to disconnect. I'm looking to get myself a Blu-Ray writer that can do basically everything. 3D BDs, UHD BDs, et cetera. I keep seeing comments in reviews on the units I've looked at saying that the firmware updates or the newer firmware that the units ship with gimps their ability to be used to rip your disks for back up and archival purposes. That utility is rather important to me. I recognize that optical drives are increasingly niche, but does anyone have any good recommendations for me?

two mouse shapes at least for gaming are ergo and ambidextrous, what you have now is an ambidextrous mouse

Hmmm I’ll probably look into the model o then cuz I’ve been wanting it for a while but I’ve always been told it’s small

#

Is the g305 from Logitech right ?

daring zenith

the razer orochi v2 is also good however its not true ambi, slight indent for your thumb to go

#

slightly smaller though compared to the g305, rival 3 and model o-

#

length anyways

Mmmm I’ll look into that one too probably hit up my micro center and check out a couple of them

#

I’m looking to probably upgrade my keyboard too I’ve been thinking about the apex pro would y’all recommend that one ?

neon root
#

not really

#

only thing good about it imo is that its made of metal

brisk charm
#

I honestly just want it cuz it has that cool little screen

neon root
#

id recommend getting a different keyboard

#

thats like $180 or something?

#

$200 usd

brisk charm
#

Yeah I mean it’s not hella expensive like those custom keyboards I be seeing out there

neon root
#

you can make a custom keyboard for sub $100 thats better than an apex pro

#

id recommend just getting a keychron or go for a different keyboard depending on your use case scenario

brisk charm
#

Hmmm yeah you right it’s not that expensive but I can use that 200 for a better ssd 😅mines is low health

neon root
#

depending on what size keyboard you want, 60%, tkl, full, etc. keychron makes good keyboards for a decent price or you can go for some other brands as well like Royal Kludge or something

#

only keyboard id somewhat recommend since i dont know your actual use case scenario would be one from corsair if you want their G keys since they work with the stream deck software and can be used in various ways

I’ve been using a tkl from coolermaster so far and I really like it but honestly i miss my num pad so I might go for a full again but I might just stick with tkl again since it takes less space on my desk

could just stick to what you have right now and just get a numpad by itself so you can connect it or disconnect it whenever
