I setup fully addressable ambient RGB lighting, controlled by iCue :)
Took some serious DIYing tho
can someone help with my new keyboard ?
like the fn keys just activate the F1-F12 keys and their functions but i cant access the multimedia functions of those keys
you can change that with your settings @hollow pond
or your keyboards drivers
like razer cortex or corsairs or logitechs
idk what keyboard you got lmao
I have absolutely no idea what that is
its white hehe
I see that
idk tbh
Check your keyboards manual
if anything
Cause sometimes its hard wired into the keyboard itself
but if it isn't check your keyboards software and you might be able to find it
is it a bluetooth keyboard or wired?
hmm
downloading the software
So I just moved from US to Europe and the new house has a fiber connection. When I run a speed test on my phone (WiFi), I see around 600mbps.
However, when I tried plugging in my laptop through Ethernet (one end into the router, the other into my laptop), I only am getting right under 100mbps.
I don't know much about networking, but I did know to check the type of Ethernet cable and it is cat5e, which I have read supports gigabit.
does the card on your laptop support it though?
how old is your laptop?
most ethernet controllers should be gigabit, but it depends on the laptop and the budget, etc
Ah it may just be my laptop then.
I assumed it supported gigabit but it's a ~5yr old Dell laptop I got on sale for $400.
Can I check from within windows?
I'm not sure, I think so
let me double check
ok yeah
open system information
expand the hardware tab
and it'll be under the I/O section
sometimes the ethernet connection on your laptop is limited too
it depends ont he situation
@graceful jetty type view network connections in the task bar
once that is open right click on your ethernet connection and select status
@real galleon @west hornet
IM GOING TO CRYU
CRY*
THEY SOLD OUT AND THEY WON'T BE BACK IN STOCK UNTIL THE 30TH OF JUNE
so like I can still order them but I won't have them until JULY now 😢
i'm going to CRY
I’m still waiting for mine LOL
should of ordered it sooner
Reason: Bad word usage
HAHAHAH
well BRUH it's been 2 weeks
that moment when MEE6 warns you so you cuss him out in DMs
HE DOES LOL
lmao stupid bot
my parents always do that
ooof
well now I gotta wait another month
if only someone sold these on ebay I would buy them,
them*
So my laptop does indeed display 100mbps. It seems it's just not equipped for gigabit.
Luckily my desktop does, and I think I'll probs mostly use my desktop (through Parsec).
does anybody know if I can get a PCIe x1 card that has a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type-C header on it
not a port, a header
(sorry I was told to come here by someone only barely more knowledgeable than I am)
That sounds super obscure lol. I have literally no idea if that even exists
Lmao that’s what I thought. Had to think for a couple of minutes before I could actually reply 😂
@warm salmon you mean this https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=SilverStone+Technology+USB+3.1+Gen+2+Internal+20Pin
I need a good network adapter for my cousin and I’m not sure whether to get like an archer t6e
@grizzled flint good lord, that is expensive
But yes, that is what I mean
Thank you!
usb c is still new so everything is pricey
yes
OR
no
do I buy the 58X jubilees
no
Wait
cause from what i've heard they're very similar and it depends on listening preferences
like part of me wants to wait
but part of me likes both headphones
ugh'
I think I am gonna wait
any1 know a budget gaming keyboard that doesnt look or feels like crap?
@slender flax Everyone has a different idea on what is considered budget. Best to give a price range and someone might be more likely to answer.
20-50 dollars
If you want a decent mechanical keyboard you're going to spend at least $70.
IBM Model M?
Did I ninja you or were you actually suggesting my post?
ninja'd me 😛
lol
I think I got my current one for pretty cheap. I'll try to find it.
Hm, seems to no longer be listed on pcpartpicker. It was a g.skill ripjaws km570. I def paid < $50 from Newegg or Amazon.
Anyone have any recommendations for a good white headset?
Bose 700. I wouldn't advice getting some poor quality gaming branded headsets. Just get some nice headphones and a desk mic
Any decent headset with a mic? >:D
@daring zenith what's your budget?
honestly, it depends on your needs too
do you need sound isolation? or are you in a quiet environment? how much do you care about sound quality? mic quality? etc
My question is there any, say if budget is 150, no need for noise cancelation, wired wireless doesn't matter, sound quality matters, mic quality matters slightly less.
alright
1 sec
have a look at these
if sites matter, they're on amazon too for around $130
Seems good, thanks.
Whats a good headset and gaming mouse for a laptop?
If you can afford them i loved my Astros
lasted me 6 years before i finally had to lay them to rest
Hmmm low to medium end lol nothing over 150
i got a Razer Kraken after my Astros broke and they have been ok so far
they are comfy with some decent sound, 99% of my issues have come from the synapse
Sennheiser pc37x
Love my Dark Core SE mouse.
☁️
Pc37x is a great budget headset
Wouldn't recommend Logi personally
Like I really didn't like the mice I've had from them
And like I said my stance on gaming headphones is get real headphones :)
my g305 has been perfect for my hand
for the last year or so
but then again
i've used 2 gaming mice total
so my opinion might be biased
Just don't buy a Corsair gaming mouse unless you want the left and right omron switches to go bad every few weeks/months and have the armature for the scroll wheel snap in half.
I learned the hard way.
11 RMAs in one year.
What are you doing to them, jeez
I've had my dark core for a few weeks and my harpoon wireless for a serveral months with no issues
Nothing. They even had them tested after I'd send them back to ensure I didn't damage them. The switches just failed. Sometimes immediately after unboxing.
So much so they agreed to refund ALL of my Corsair products after already being outside of the RMA period because of how many issues I had.
Reimbursed me $200 and I got a Ducky Mecha Mini, Glorious Model O, and Glorious XXL Extended mousepad instead. Not one issue every since.
ever*
Well IDK. I'll see how mine hold up, but I have bought a ton or Corsair products (PSU, Keyboard, mouse, ram, case, lighting, fans, custom cooling) and have been impressed with pretty much everything except the poorly reviewed case I bought.
I've personally have had very positive experiences with thier service. And if you were to see a problem as you had, they will fix it
yeah idk what's w/ your luck and Corsair @humble lodge but i had my Sabre mouse for 2yrs and my Harpoon for almost that long, and I am looking forward to my Dark Core that is coming next week.
Well I originally bought the M65 Pro then they sent me the M65 Elite, Ironclaw, Ironclaw Wireless, Dark Core, and finally the Nightsword. All had the same left and/or right click issues. Some right away, some after a few weeks, most in less than 90 days. Two of them the scroll wheel arm that turns the mechanism snapped completely. Both wireless mice had connection issues. It's great that some of you have no issues, but this isn't even just an isolated issue with me. I've seen an unbelievable amount of threads of the same issues across all their different models.
Personally I think it's a design or cheap manufacturing issue, where some but not all are well constructed and the rest end up being done wrong. I don't think the switches are bad switches.
Whats the best headset under 55$
trying to find a USB 3.0 OR 3.1 card for a ASUS M4A77D motherboard. I'm not exactly sure what to get.
yes just trying to make sure my board has the proper slot for it
thanks thats the info I was looking for
would a need power connection for that
@mossy viper HyperX Cloud Stinger.
what do u ppls think of razer basilisk x?
What mechanical keyboard do you recommend under 70€ ? I want red/blue/brown cherry mx or brands equivalent...
@reef elk thats a large selection... Red blue and brown are 3 completely different switches, do you want loud clicky, quieter clicky, or no tactile click?
I want it to be not loud af but have a nice click in gaming especially. And also when I work
so browns are what you want.
Do you want full size, tkl (tenkeyless), or 60%?
I'll go take a look
narrow down the search for me and others :p
It's okay with a full size but it will be hard to find. A smaller does also the job. I mean I want it not to be huge and not too small.
Sorry for my English I'm French and I'm tired .
Definitely no 60%
Full and tkl are ok. Maybe tkl are more affordable than full.
I guess
Alright it's okay.
Thanks you for helping me btw
You're welcome
@reef elk are you buying from France? If so it might be better to look at stock and availability in France and prices in euros.
Yup @daring zenith
~65 euros budget?
https://www.amazon.fr/Glorious-PC-Gaming-Race-Tastatur/dp/B071KGHZY4/
wow
ge whipped out his french
@brisk parcel my headphones aren't coming in until june 😦
C'est toujour trop chère, mais si c'etais ~100 euro, c'est un bon clavier.
https://www.amazon.fr/Corsair-Clavier-Mécanique-Rétro-Éclairage-Multicolore/dp/B07D4QR1VG/
Je pense c'est une bonne idée attendre jusqu'a soit tu as plus de budget (~100euro), soit la fin de l'épidémie. @reef elk
D'accord merci @daring zenith . Et bon courage pour l'apprentissage du français, c'est pas toujours facile. Et sinon pourrais-je te recontacter si j'ai besoin ?
ça me va.
And what do you think of the hyperx alloy fps pro ?
Si il a le interrupteur clavier tu besoin, je pense il est bon.
If it has the switches (Mx brown) you want, I think it's good.
Is there a specific French word for keyboard switches?
cliç cla'ck
@reef elk are there any better online stores in France that I should take a look at other than Amazon.fr?
(I was trying to figure out how to type this in French but got stumped on how "are there" would work in french... Est-la..?)
@daring zenith Nope in French it's switches. Same
@daring zenith And yeah, are there = y a t'il ?/ Il y a ?. There are websites like:
-topachat
-ldlc
-alternate
-materiel.net (more expensive)
And there're some non specialised websites like :
-Cdiscount
-fnac
-rueducommerce
-darty
And more..
Ohh I forgot about Il y a and how you can use that casually to ask a question...
For a question, you can use many expressions but people usually say : "est-ce qu'il y a [...] ?" (Which mean: "Is/are there [...] ?" But this is casual. To be more "high level language" (I don't have the word lol) you can use the expression I gave you before : "Y a t'il ?" Which mean basically the same thing. In French, the nice way to make a question is to reverse the verb and the subject. For example:
-Tu as du chocolat ? (Not really nice but people use it casually and will understand you)
-As tu du chocolat ? (Which is more grammarly correct)
For your information, both sentences mean the same thing : "Do you want chocolate?"
Huh, I thought As-tu du chocolat would mean "Do you have the chocolate"?
But French is interesting, there is a lot to learn, merci beaucoup :D
@daring zenith Oof yeah sorry it's 04:10 am and I'm really tired.. I should go to sleep lol
@daring zenith You right.
Yea you really should, good night!
I did like teachers u know. The best 100% working excuse. "It was made on purpose to see if you was listening" xD
Anyway, gn @daring zenith
lol gn.
I think any modern one is probably plenty sensative
My default DPI is 1,500
Wouldn't choose a mouse based on that if it's above 3000
@hollow pond higher dpi usually means higher quality but you don't need it at all
I use 600dpi
Most people use 400/800 in FPS
i found a cheap one for 4000dpi but it has a honeycomb design and its pink uWu
I would feel sluggish with that low a setting (under 800). But I like barely moving my mouse
I'd say if it seems like decent brand, sure
i dont even think it has a brand lmao
I wouldn't personally buy a cheap chinese branded mouse, but I'm spoiled :)
You'd probably be fine
Well
jUNE 2
my wrists are shot lmao
?
they're bad
Oh
i play a lil bit of some fps
Ow
i wanna get into warzone
but my pc can barely run it
mmm and some other titles
I can do very good flicks with wrist aim that I doubt I can hit with arm aim
i wanna start getting into single player games since i'll have a better pc that can run things like assassins creed
Siege is all about flicking around in a closed confined space
Warzone might actually take arm aim better for sniping
and i play a lil bit of siege so im not too worried
I have the most lasy mouse style
destiny 2 as well once i switch over to mouse and keyboard
Mine might be able to compete night
I hang my mousepad over my desk a little to act like a wrist rest
Nice lol
600dpi :p
But like why would you want to move your mouse all over if you don't have to, right?
Wrist aim gang
Exactly lol
🖐️
🖐️
must be nice
400 dpi gang? Glorious XXL Extended Mousepad? Anyone?
I got the wireless charging mouse from corsair but I refuse to buy a wireless charging mousepad without rgb 🙂
Does any body know of any mechanical 60% keyboards $40 or below?
I doubt it.
I might get the hyperX mic I picked a mic stand on Newegg what y’all think of the idea
It's a good mic. Reviewers had bad things to say about the quality because they were too dumb to spend the time to learn how to configure it properly. It's not that hard and it's a very good mic. Better than the Yetti once setup properly.
at2020 is pretty good too
Just don't expect it to sound great out-of-the-box.
Should I get the 58x jubilee or the arctic pro wireless + gamedac (I don’t have any dac or amp) and I play both multiplayer and single player but I usually play more single player
@steady plover 58x
all the way
save up a little bit and get a 6XX if you can wait a month
the drop comes in June 30th
ah
so they're actually very similar, but the 6XX has a wider soundstage, and it's more refined
more "laid-back" if you will
it also has a larger frequency range
How are they with music?
amazing
Honestly
very clear
I never knew finding headphones would be this hard lmao
do you only listen to rock and metal? or do you just prefer the two
Mostly only rock and metal
because you might like the 58x a little better in that case, they're a little more "fun". a little more "in your face"
Some other stuff but not much
sennhesser has a very neutral sound stage
look at some reviews if you'd like
yeah me, rudester, and ghost have been talking about this for over a month lmao
speaking of, do you know what day your headphones come in Rude?
or just sometime next month
oh yeah
you'll enjoy both sennheiser cans very much
do you have a DAC/AMP already?
or a combo of the two?
No
okay so
I don’t have any
you might wanna pick up the 58X in that case, they're 150 ohms compared to 300 on the 6XX
basically, the 6XX need more power to really get the best out of them
if you had the money I would say to get a schitt modi and magni, but that's probably a little much for your budget
Yeah I heard that I can use the 58x with my phone easily but not so much the 6xx
yeah the 6XX will struggle
but if you want a versatile thing, the sound blaster E5 might be nice for you
works on PC and can be connected to your phone via bluetooth
Let’s say I want a headphone for a game like cyberpunk specifically
okay
What would you say I should get
tbh, all 3 of those aren't a bad option
but I would recommend you go for the 2 sennheisers over the arctis
they're much better for the money
BUT they are open back
so if you care about sound leak or are in a loud environment you might not enjoy them as much
I was looking into spending around $600 for an audio setup
For the most part
The most noisy thing would be my keyboard
ok you'll be alright then
since open backs do leak sound a good bit
they're meant to give the audio a much more spatial feeling, more realistic
they come the second
ah alright so only about another week, excited to see your thoughts for sure
My pc is pretty decently quiet so I don’t have to worry about noise
Dude honestly thank you so much
oh of course, i'm in the same boat haha
I’ve was watching stuff like Z reviews and I just got so confused
Z reviews is honestly really good, but if you're a little new I would recommend more simpler stuff
okay so here's the glorious cans:
https://drop.com/buy/massdrop-sennheiser-hd6xx
here's your amp:
https://www.schiit.com/products/magni-1
and here's your dac:
https://www.schiit.com/products/modi-1
famously known as the "schiit stack"
unfortunately the 6XXs just sold out, but they'll be back at the end of june
so I gotta wait to buy mine too unfortunaly 😢
Should I buy the dac or amp first?
hey if any of you mods are watching this channel, can you make me an audiophile rule? 😆
and honestly
Lmao
you'll want the amp to give the headset the power it craves
dac is important but you might not have a way to plug it in without the other component
And do the amps just plug into my pc?
my schiit amp uses rca
yeah, most amps draw power from the wall
surprisingly my G6 doesn't and it can drive up to 600 ohms
If I were to just sit outside and listen to music with my phone would it still be okay without an amp?
yeah but it'll be a bit quiet
as long as it's quiet outside you should be ok
but like I said you might be good with a portable amp too
that should come later though
worry about your PC audio first
like I said earlier though, if you prefer rock and metal the most, you might like the 58X a little better
look at some reviews if you're unsure, but from what i've read the 58Xs are a little better for that kinda stuff
but the 6XXs are better overall for sure, they have a wider soundstage and a higher frequency range
12Hz-32KHz on the 58X and 10Hz-41KHz on the 6XXs
you might like the 6XXs cause of that low 10Hz, if you EQ the bass up just a little bit, it's really quite the experience
like a low rumble you can almost feel in your chest 😂 I've used the 6XXs a few times
One more question
Is the 6xx better than the 660s? I heard the 58x is pretty much just the 660s
yeah, I would say the 6XX is better than the 660s, it's basically a 650
like I said they're both super similar in a lot of ways but also super different
that's my personal preference though, I'm not a fan of stuff that can be super in your face, I like things a little warmer and more laid back
I don't really listen to metal too, and what rock i do listen to is like 70s-80s, some alt rock, and that's about it for rock
the rest of it is very mixed lmao
but for your listening case, you might enjoy the little more bass, and the more "fun" the 58x provides
Dude thank you
the soundstage is a bit smaller though
I’m getting my paycheck tomorrow and they’re giving us two bonuses to our check
since you can return stuff to massdrop within 30 days of purchase, I would go for the 6XX first
and if you like them, stick with them
and awesome man for sure! I'm graduating HS on saturday 😂 all my money comes in the form of cards from family and relatives lmao
too bad this corona messed up my senior year, but oh well
I still have a year left of high school because I was held back in kindergarten lmao
lmao
honestly I kinda wish I was, I really wanted to experience all that senior bliss that i never really got lmao
but oh well
90% of my friends are graduating
ooooh that's probably not the greatest
tbh it's strange to think I won't see a lot of people ever again
I agree
well, I'm glad I could help with your audio choices at least! you'll get much more of your money's worth if you get a proper setup
steelseries isn't bad, but they're much more geared towards gaming, and they miss the mark on a lot of stuff
tbh I myself am impressed with my Cloud 2s and my G6, but I know I can do better
I do have a pair of 1more quad drivers for my phone, I love those too
1more*
why does it do that when I type 1more lmao
For what it is the Air Force recons are good for the price but now that I built my first pc I’m ready to upgrade
Lmao
yeah true
I meant to say phone not headphones lmao
yeah if you get a chance to demo those I would, they're just as they sound
they have a driver, and 3 armatures in each ear
really helps you pick apart the music, you can hear everything
and they have an incredible soundstage for earbuds too
At one point I looked at the hd800
Then I realized that’s probably overkill for me lmao
I mean
it's not if you have the money
but for now yeah
let the 6XX be your endgame for now
your wallet will thank you
the audiophile rabbit hole is a money it within itself
I mean I will start working full time for the summer June 12 and I make around $900 every two weeks
Hmmmm
Oh god help me
Lmao
that's not bad honestly, but save your money lmao
I think it might be too late for you
soon enough you'll be buying tube amps and all this other weird stuff
audiophiles do it as a hobby because why not 😂
After this I’m gonna get a be headset and a better monitor lmao
honestly, people just settle for junk nowadays it's kinda sad
yeah get those 6XXs
you'll thank me
you won't be able to know if you're using headphones or if you're actually there
Since it’s coming later i can get the amp and dac now
yeah, try using your current cans on the amp and dac
you'll notice a difference for sure
I’ve been playing a lot of siege lately so I can’t wait to try it out
might not be that great of a jump since your current cans are kinda eh, but you'll notice something at least
Honestly I never knew how big the headphone market was until I started looking into more headphones
Before I thought those gaming pieces of crap were good
oh yeah it's huge
I was the same way
then I bought my G6 for my cloud 2s, the difference was night and day
they I got the quad drivers
I fell in love
and now i
I'm here*
can't wait to get my 6XXs as well, Rudester ordered his a few weeks ago and they come in on the 2nd
waiting to see what he thinks of them too
oh god don't get me started on the chat headset lmao
it's been ages and i'll never go back
speaking of my 1mores, imma plug them in and listen rn lmao
because why not
Someone said I should get squad when I get my new headphones
tbh I've had it for years
never played it
oh here's a link to the 1mores if you want something a little easier to drive for mobile listening
you'll love those too
alright well if you need anything else feel free to @ me
i'll be here
sure thing! anything I can do is good enough for me
Is a Corsair mouse worth time??
Worth time?
Wdym
I've liked the two Corsair mice I've tried, they also have great service. I would recommend the Harpoon wireless as a budget mouse and dark core RGB pro as a premium option
I would want dark core rgv but is it equal to deathadder from Razer and had a 3.5g weight
guys, are stock case fans noisy? because i’m about to change them with some nice rgb smooth corsair fans (120mm size) and i want it to be all cool temps and quiet 😉
They are if they are cheap DC fans
You guys think it is safe to still use? It came out of its socket (I don’t know why- I didn’t drop it or anything... it just... broke) and the wiring is showing. I think it is fine, but I’d rather not find out the hard way.
@hollow badge your new fans will for sure be quiet and cool, I have some stock red LED fans from corsair that are almost 4.5 yrs old and still quiet and cool
@fiery marsh you should be ok, as long as you don't get a shock of any kind I would get some electrical tape and try to keep it as stable as you can
@sudden meteor you should be fine, I know plenty of people with corsair mice, none have had problems
if any of you have questions you can @ me, i'm usually here
@sudden meteor i just got a Dark Core yesterday and I am loving it, i have used a Corsair Sabre and Harpoon previously and love Corsair's stuff, only issue was the middle click died on the Sabre but i am pretty sure that was on me and not on them
@fiery marsh there is nothing in the headset that has enough power to shock you in any way, although i don't know how you are going to fix that.
electrical tape?
i dont know how electrical tape is going to hold it up tbh
i mean, to have some sort of clamping of force on the user's head so it stays on
Is there a desktop amp that has a single line and headphone output but several inputs? I just want to unify all my audio devices to my speakers and i don't need more than the line out and the headphone
idk abt this but what the ones from focusrite, like the scarlett ones
not much knowledge on that kind of thing
I ordered void elite headphones from corsair and the instant lighting tab in icue isnt popping up. Can anyone help.
can you restart the app?
already tried
Valorant?
@calm cobalt I put it back in the socket, or as much as I could, and it stays there. I am still looking for a new headset... or headphone/microphone combo. I just don't know yet.
oh alright
What’s a good sub-35 gaming keyboard
Hey guys do you know of any really cheap, really small desk?
Like literally just enough space on it to hold a computer tower
uh
idk if this is the channel to ask or whatever
tell me
no idea where it came from or what it is
):
Something like this
Except I want it to hold only my computer
not the monitors/keyboard/mousr or whatever... just the tower
ah
and like 27-29 inches tall
took me a fat minute to trim that url lmao
that looks so precarious
but it could hold a computer off the floor
yee I gotcha
Possibly taller, but not shorter
Thanks so much @cursive marsh for even helping me a little
there's some kinda ugly things labelled as "printer stand"
not really ugly but not particularly stylish
kinda looks like plastic
and yw ^^
Like this one
But less expensive
I mean that one is perfect but a little more than the price I want
$50 or less maybe?
yeah lol
what is it with office people and calling computers "CPU"
my dad calls computers that too like what the heck lol
I have one of my computers set on an old aluminum baking pan xd
lmao
man, not getting much with these search terms
Yeah a lot of my relatives call PCs CPUs
xd
a little narrow, but looks decent
might be shabby in quality if you're unlucky
yeah
ALL THE CHROME TABS!
xd
I kinda like this one, but it might be a bit short for a computer, if ATX or something
This is a very good one
I have a black desk theme going on so
All that brown is kinda eh
alright
Although I'd be putting it on the top, and idk if it would be sturdy enough...
yeah could be a bit weak
bro why are they staging it with the books backwards xd
25 lb per shelf
how much does a computer weigh? lol
Reason: Duplicated text
get out of my face Mee6
I didn't post any of those links already smh
and
then
ok

got a shipping scale handy? :p
Bathroom scale
lol
probably
no idea how reliable a weight limit on a random Amazon listing would be xd
never bought furniture on Amazon
I bought the desk I have now from there
ah
It’s just too big and expensive to buy again
I keep hitting the F1 key xd

literally
headphone headset suggestions?
I was thinking of just getting the 599 and a modmic but I'm not 100% sure
take a look at the hd6xx

in my notifciations
im here lmao
my hd6xx
is finally in california
Still not at my house
lol
but its in cali no wlol
soon
only thing I don't like about hd 6xx is that it uses that weird proprietary connector
on the end connecting the headphones?
Whats a good sub 80 keyboard
whats the best 165-240hz monitor that also is budgetable? @empty crypt it can be ocable
i have agateron brown drevo and i LOVE IT
@turbid torrent
i can give sound test if ya wantr
drop isn't known for fantastic shipping lol
@west hornet @real galleon i'm biting the bullet
after looking at more reviews and such, sound demos, and everything else
?
I'm going with the 58X instead
lame
and I'm gonna mod them, remove the foam, and the paper over the driver
they sound closer to the 660S, which are more my style, but fear not
when the 6XX are back in stock, i'll get those too
lol
Reason: Bad word usage
oops
no you didn't
ok nvm I guees now
my dad "changed his mind:

Cheap amazon keyboard switch sample pack / tester
https://www.amazon.com/Cherry-Switch-Tester-keyboard-Sampler/dp/B01GZHU1EG
Switch types explained.
https://www.mechanical-keyboard.org/switch-types/
also wanna I add that switch testers are nice but won’t be exactly the same as in a keyboard because of the case and how it’s mounted
Definitely, I tried a qisan magicforce 108 key for $60 off amazon and it as still kinda loud with gateron reds, #cheapkeyboardproblems
Same for some $24 tenkeyless I got with otemu browns.
Loud thuds when the keys bottom out
yea
the best way to feel the difference imo is to go to a place like Best Buy and try the different switches in a keyboard
Unicomp buckling spring

I think I will go with the 6xx after a while
if you want clickies it looks fine
Any recommendation for a good cheap headset with mic?
Any recommendation for a good cheap headset with mic?
@split nimbus Great quality earbuds, with a so-so mic. They do die relatively quick, mainly through the mic bit (can be just mic or entire left side), but you can just get them replaced with an insurance plan. I've replaced these earbuds a ton of times, renewing the insurance every time. The insurance plan is $10 for two years, so it's essentially $10/pair when you get them replaced.

I was looking more for a full on headset for teleworking/voice chat, but these do look nice. Do you know if they have a version with separate mic and audio plugs?
Probably not for cheap
I also cannot stand headsets which wrap around my ears, so I can't really give you any recommendations in terms of that
The headphones I recommended are surround sound, if that changes anything
Not really a biggy for me. I just need something so I can get off my 15 year old set now that everything is voice chat
Your headset is fifteen years old and still kicking?! Impressive
I mean, the padding on the ear pieces is all but fallen off...
As expected
It's just gotten really static-y on the mic lately, so I think it's time to get a new pair
They finally came @brisk parcel @west hornet

okay so
ordering the 58X on tuesday
like actually
so yay
gonna mod them
take the foam out and the paper over the driver\
They
ar egood
they're a lot comfier than the dt770
but as for build quality
I'm disappointed
I spent 220 to get plastic
:/
Can you use an xbox 360 wireless controller with the charger cord with windows 10? i cant find anything helpful online
the driver shows up but the controller wont connect. the lights just keep flashing
Try watching some videos on it
@wintry igloo no you cant. It doesnt link to the computer that way unfortunately. the Xbox one wireless work with a USB type C, or if you get the bluetooth enabled ones itll connect via bluetooth
Thanks @fair marsh
@real galleon but what about the sound 😂
ah alright, when you get home then?
well, was it worth it?
new mouse
the glorious model d
.
Anyone have a tecware phantom 104? Want a review on it as it’s on my way
I had the Model D for about a week and loved the extra included G-Skates for more glide and the ergonomic shape but the placement of the side buttons is so awkward and hard to reach while also keeping a good grip on the mouse. If they were lower and more forward so I didn't have to arch my thumb it would be perfect, so I swapped it for the Model O. Those side buttons are small and not well distinguished from one another and no extra G-Skates but they have much better placement.
I had the techware phantom 87 for a long time and it was a pretty decent board for the price. Good build quality and average switches. If you don't like the feel of the standard keycaps you can also get a box of double shot pbt caps like I did. @turbid torrent
Anyone have any recommendations for headphones around the $100 mark that have insanely good bass to them as well
Uh shoot I forgot what they were called. I think @brisk parcel knows a pair
was it the one with the 2 x's in it's name
oof
$100
is it exactly $100? or can you afford a bit more?
I have a bluetooth Sony SRS XB31 that I want to sell
Depends how much more it is
If it's like maybe $50 more possibly but any above I don't know
well, if you're looking for some great cans overall but require a mic, I would go for the sennheiser PC37X, they're sold out on massdrop but they are available on amazon
they go for $130 i do believe
I have a microphone
okay nice
so, if they go on sale, which i expect them to soon because of summer, the HD58X jubilee are a great option, and the bass is very well recieved. they're $170, but usually go on sale for $150
do you prefer open back or closed back?
not sure what's the difference
okay so
closed back is what you see on most headsets/some headphones. the driver is sealed off, not visible to someone who doesn't have them on their head, I.E. the cloud 2s
closed backs offer much better sound isolation, things around you will be more muffled, people won't be able to hear what you're listening to that well depending on volume
however, there are a few drawbacks to closed backs
it's very hard to give music a very "realistic" sound. it appears to be coming from the center of your head, and you usually get a smaller soundstage depending on what you end up buying
now I'll explain open backs
Open back headphones, particularly Grado ones, (can) sound bloody amazing. But they have literally no sound isolation
look at my man giving a full structured lecture 👏
I don't really care for noise cancelling, I just want something that has quite incredible bass and sound quality and has comfort to the ears
Those are the three things I am looking for
as night said, they don't have nearly as much sound isolation, and people can hear what you're listening too
BUT
the driver is directly exposed to the "outside" of the headset. It projects sound in both directions, giving you a much more realistic sound, a better soundstage, better imaging(positioning basically, being able to pinpoint where sound is coming from), and it's usually a warmer feeling
do people use open back typically more than closed?
it depends on your use case and the environment you're in
so if you're in a loud environment, I wouldn't recommend open back as you'll be able to hear everything around you much better
they do have some sound isolation, but not much. and they do project sound, but it's not as bad as most people think
an example of a typical closed back would be this:
the hyperX* logo covers the driver, you can't see it
this is what an open back looks like:
that ring thing on the inside of the earcup is the driver itself
alright so it's question time about what you should go with
the highway is definitely a factor
how loud is it usually? is it easily audible/annoying most of the time?
it's both yes lol
especially when people speed down the highway with the loudest engines
generally open back have a bigger sound stage, closed back are more common but open back is starting to get more popular. If it is very noisy near you closed backs are probably better. I know beyerdynamics has some good closed backs
when you're using your current headphones, how much do they block out the sound of the highway?
none. they're speakers lol
My volume is typically on 40 and it hardly blocks out the noise
It's not exactly a highway but we call them highways here, it's an extremely busy road
It's as noisy as one lol
closed back might be your best bet, but your budget might be a little bit of a limiting factor, I'll have to double check a few prices
I recommend the 58X and the 6XX to most because of the incredible value, and it opens up the world of open backs for most people
but that highway's gonna be a problem, I would say that open backs will block out probably 15-20% of that volume
Honestly, if you have a ton of background noise I would consider noise cancelling. It's a very handy feature. Great for travel too if you're into that
Hey @brisk parcel I want headphones that are better than apple earbuds at the cheapest price possible do you know of any
alright @silver roost I got something you might very much enjoy
id like headphones cause earbuds damage ears or something
why the hell is black $30 more
Check out Sony and Bose's linup. I have some more pricey ones but some of their cheaper options are slick too. Shure/Audio Technica are also awesome if you're an audiophile
because of the finish I think
tbh I never liked audio technica
their stuff was too "surgical"
I prefer warmer and more laid back sound
I like these sony speakers they're nice @hazy fiber which headphones do you prefer if you don't mind me asking
@devout fiber what's your budget to step up from the apple trashbuds?
The ones you sent me were nice but just wanna see my alternatives
Well it comes down to personal preference. Hard to beat shure/audio technica's accuracy tho
I use Bose 700s/ Shure SE535 personally, but I can see if I can find the cheaper models I can recommend
as cheap as possible. I'd be fine with the same exact performance as I am cool with the apple earbud sound i just want headphones not earbuds
if that makes sense
Audio-Technica ATH-M40x - under $100 for excellent wired studio grade headphones (they have bluetooth for more)
ok Yams, do you prefer open or closed? is your environment quiet or loud?
alright, lemme get you a few links
hmmmm
yay 🙂
Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones WHXB900N - Cheaper/older version of the Sony equivalent to the Bose 700s. Excellent noise cancelation and good sound (tho bass heavy). Has bluetooth
I like bass it's okay
oh @brisk parcel are wireless hardphones good? if so i'd like those
don't wanna have to deal with the wire
Shure SE215 - Super accurate in ear monitors. Not the same level as the SE535, but very accurate. Not great bass, they go for accurate
wireless are usually fine yeah, but they tend to be a tad more expensive
shoot
Bluetooth headphones tend to come with a wired option that you can use when they die
You can get a good usb adapter for like $20
but Before adding bluetooth I gotta get a USB hub cuase all my USB ports full
You can also get a pcle card
nah don't wanna mess with the aesthetic of my PC with a PCIe card
I'll give you two wired ones first, both of these have a great value IMO, I love both of them. @devout fiber
Philips SHP9500: they're one of the best open backs i've used for the price. they're not really cheap but they're the cheapest quality you can get
https://www.amazon.com/Philips-SHP9500S-Precision-Over-ear-Headphones/dp/B00ENMK1DW/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=shp9500&qid=1591123970&sr=8-1
and these babies. the GRADO SR60e: very similar to the Philips, but they have a warmer sound IMO, things are more laid back and casual. it's hard to find them in stock but they're worth it
https://www.amazon.com/Grado-SR60e-Headphones/dp/B00KYTNU9U/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=sr60e&qid=1591124036&s=electronics&sr=1-1
They have 4.6 stars out of 2.7K reviews so it's not looking unpromising
@silver roost I can't make a personal recommendion as I haven't tried them, but they look well reviewed
@silver roost I've used them before. they're not too bad, but the bass is lackluster if you want some good bass that also doesn't wash out the higher frequencies
Okie, last recommendations that I've personally tried here:
Sony Noise Cancelling Headphones WH1000XM3 - Best noise canceling, cheaper than the Bose, more comfortable, better sound. Retails at $350 though
And a counter recommendation: avoid Skullcandy. They are cheap, but they are cheap. Service is pretty poor, and you'll need top use it a lot if you buy from them
Also, I second the grado SR60 rec from @brisk parcel
I've used those, excellent sound quality and well built (they get hot in the summer though)
The link I sent I can't find anywhere near me for $51
@silver roost they're also a little pricey, around the same as the DT770, but they're another great option:
https://www.amazon.com/Sennheiser-HD-569-Closed-Headphone/dp/B01L1IIF1A/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=598c&qid=1591124215&sr=8-3
they're tuned to as low as 10Hz as well, it'll give bass a more "resonating" feeling, almost like you can feel it in your chest
@silver roost there are some used ones of that model you sent on ebay for under $50 if you want to get those
plus it comes with a detachable cable
Don't exactly know if I want used headphones
That's fair
@devout fiber I can look for some cheaper ones if you'd like, but the designs are a tad funky
there's really only one that I recommend, the Kossa Porta-Pros, but they look a bit odd lmao
they're also on-ears, and not over ears
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sony-xb950n1-extra-bass-wireless-noise-cancelling-over-the-ear-headphones-black/5739303.p?skuId=5739303 same link as earlier, might settle on these then, they have good bass and good reviews and it's very cheap
so they don't fit like most headphones do
@silver roost if you want one more recommendation for closed backs from me, the monoprice retros aren't too bad:
https://www.amazon.com/Monoprice-Headphones-Ultra-Comfortable-Perfect-Production/dp/B01M7Z0VKR/ref=sr_1_1?dchild=1&keywords=monoprice+retro&qid=1591124570&sr=8-1
@devout fiber I can help with earbuds too if you'd like, but spending the little extra dollar is worth it
I try and get people to not settle for less, cause once you open yourself up to better sound you'll enjoy music more than you thought you could
for $30 it doesnt seem promising
yeah well the whole reason I wanted new headphones is becuase I don't like earbuds... I wanted over ears
alright, well then if you want open backs I really think you should spend a little extra
huh
as for closed backs, the retros that I recommended to NJ would fit your budget if you really wanna go that low
well, if I were you, get the open backs and give them a try, you can always return them
I mean I'm fine with closed back open back was just an "if you can" type thing. Same with wireless
at least let yourself hear what they sound like, because they're a whole different type of experience
alrighty thanks!
yeah I wouldn't recommend wireless at that price point
I know some people like to go cheap, but your ears deserve better
If you are in a noisy environment I wouldn't recommend open tho. That's why I haven't actually used my grados for a year
I mean my hearing is not that good to start with so...
If you can afford to get the GRADOS or Philips then I would try them out first, see if you think the extra money is worth it
and yeah ik what you mean, but the difference is more in the experience, you'll notice the quality jump like it's night and day
nah. Seriously. I am a massive cheapskate
Except on power supplies
But seriously I'm usually just like: "I want something that works."
don't really need anything that good
I know what you mean I used to be the same way
but tbh $60-ish bucks for a headset that's gonna last much longer is more worth it imo
my $15 apple earbuds have lasted me a very long time...
they've even been through the washer a few times 🤣
in a way it's really not too expensive, like I'm dropping $170 on the 58Xs I talked about, I wanted to grab the 6XXs for $220 but they sold out and I would rather mod my 58Xs to sound closer to the 660S, which is a best in class.
earbuds typically will last a bit longer at that price, at that point the quality lies in the cable
if you have a cheap cable, it'll break easily
if you have an opportunity it is always best to try out audio gear for yourself
^
sadly there are not many places that you can try on good headphones
that's why I recommend you give those other ones a shot, see if they're worth it for yourself
mostly just the normal bose and beats headphones
I know you're cheap, but trust me $60 for the philips or $75 for the grados are more than worth it, you'll thank me later
Eck. I'm sad to see Bose and Beats in the same sentence. I hold a good bit of distain for apple/beats
alright. I'll possibly try them out once I sell a couple more PCs.
I would give them a shot for sure, and like I said you can always return them if you feel they're not worth it
Beats are a primarily a status symbol
👍
^
and that is why it is sad, most of the time those are the only ones available to try in stores
also that
Well yeah, but I see Bose as a much better quality brand with better products
bose i would say is better than beats ya, there noise cancellation is the best i believe, although you do end up getting a bit of white noise with all that cancelling
Well... as someone who has tried both Sony and Bose flagship noise cancelling headphones, I would say Sony has a tiny edge in sound quality, comfort, and NC
alright well @devout fiber and @silver roost I'm gonna go play some factorio, if you need me just shoot me an @ and i'll be here
Like the 700s are amazing and super well built (like they can take a serious hit), but the Sony WH-1000XM3 are (in my opinion) better in price, comfort, & performance... though not durability
