i want to know if my cooler is compatible with the case/motherboard since i just ordered it and i'm shaking for some reason
my mother board is ASRock b450M hdv r4.0
my case is Gamemax expedition
motherboard is kinda cheap
What size rad
240
it'll fit in the case for sure
but will the rgb n things work with the motherboard?
do i need to buy a pwm y splitter?
i'm confused
How many other fans
i have a single fan in the case
nothing more nothing less
it's in the rear i believe
2 cpu fan headers
so i have to buy a Y splitter
?
i'm sorry but i'm a little bit confused
will i have to buy a Y splitter or not
@calm umbra you only need the one 4 pin pwm slot for the AIO. that should power the rgb as well, it doesnt say anything about that needing a rgb header. worst case scenario you can buy a splitter just to be safe for like an extra $5.
i would honestly get one anyways, having just 1 case fan really hurts your airflow. the best combo is 2 fans, and from there on it is diminishing returns
i have a laptop with a gtx 1050 and an i7 8700hq and i have had it for 4 years should i replace the thermal paste because my cpu runs at 90 to 100 degrees normally
Yeah you probably should. My old laptop same specs wasn’t that bad
ok because it also sounds like a jet engine
Yeah then
Clean all dust too
And when you take off old paste make sure to use rubbing alcohol
Would a wraith prism cooler be enough to cool a 3900xt
if you have the budget for a 3900xt get an aio
or a really beefy air cooler
@karmic raven
Doing my first build. I bought a Cooler Master liquid cooler for my AMD Ryzen 7, 3700X 8 core. Should I be worried about leaks and install the fan that came with it? I do some gaming nothing more. Not sure which way to go

@ WolffeDemon#0664 tysm
im getting a 3970x what should i use to cool it? not really interested in a custom loop
Personally I have a very nice direct air setup on my 1080ti and it stays ice cold, but few cases have a good layout for that anymore...
I want to get a 3090 but im afraid it won't fit in my case 😦

@normal cipher also, my main problem is that i have 1 cpu fan connector
what do i do
okay so, with your motherboard that "cpu fan connector" doubles as a connector for a pump for an AIO.
im saying you should be able to just plug your AIO into that cpu fan connector and be just peachy
So I'm looking to purchase either an i7-9700k or an i5-9600k, with an atx motherboard, but im not sure how to cool it whether it be an AIO or air cooling, i have to transport my pc roughly one mile every week between houses and im not sure if that would be extremely risky with an AIO as im not familiar with any water cooling, any suggestions?
I need best PVM fan kit. I guess 3 fan is enough. May be RGB. PLEASE suggest thank you!
Anything against DEEPCOOL RF120M(3 in 1) Ultra Quiet intelligent PWM Fan 6 high brightness RGB LED Lights Motherboard Sync Multiple Control Modes
@prime portal if u are getting the i5 definitely don't get an AIO as you dont need an AIO to cool an i5. Something like a Hyper 212 evo or a Dark Rock Pro will work just fine with the i5. If you are getting an i7, getting an AIO is more acceptable.
212evo and drp4 are completely different tiers of coolers :P
anyone in here?
@stable forge What’s up
should I get the deepcool gammax 400 v2? or the id cooling se-224-xt basic? I plan to do a mild OC for my r5 3600 and the stock cooler is loud
the deepcool has a blue fan, the se-224 has a cleaner look, they seem to be close in performance
delidded 7700k OC hits 75C on the se224
6850K 4.3ghz OC hits 48C (+22 ambient, so 70C) se224
8700k OC prime95 hits 80C se224
3960x OC hits 69C (nice) gammax 400
5930k OC hits 58C (+22 ambient, so 80C) gammax 400
I'm torn between the NZXT Kraken X63 and X73. The case I planned on getting doesn't support a 360mm top radiator, but I'm willing to buy a different (and currently more expensive) case if there's a real performance difference. Obviously, the X73 has a bigger radiator, but the X63 has larger fans (140 instead of 120mm) and much higher CFM (98 compared to 73 on the X73), apparently to compensate for the smaller radiator. So what's the word? Is there a real performance difference between the two?
How long are the tubes on that Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360R
Cause the ones on that H150i RGB PRO XT are 380mm long
@frosty latch noise normalized perf is the same between the two. So go by price or looks.
As usage surface area is just about the same
Thanks!
If you replace the fans with Noctua (and probs some others, just haven't been tested), x63 will have better noise normalized
While x73 has more raw perf (like few degrees difference)
Hello i bought a evga 240mm cooler i got everything connected as many videos have shown but this motherboard cable I’m having trouble finding where this goes
Darn i can’t post a picture but yeah
@wild pumice Motherboard cable? Does the cooler have RGB?
Could also connect to the fan header
@proper fulcrum I don’t have any experience with that cooler, sorry :/
I'm wanting to know if a Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360R would have long enough tubes if I mounted its radiator with the tubes down in a Lian Li Lancool II case
gonna be honest tho, from the pics of the cooler, im gonna have to say no, the tubes wont reach
or they might just barely reach
If you mount the cooler downward you’ll be fighting against the natural movement of heat
I meant mount it with the tubes down on the front lol
Well.. if I got their 360mm AIO
yeah, we know, but were saying it doesnt matter because top mounting it is just better
I can mount a 240, cause my case can support one
oh whoops
for some reason i thought you said the o11d
i saw lian li and kinda just skipped around the rest
anyway
what cpu are you trying to cool?
Well I thought I heard GN say intake was better.. but apparently I was wrong
A Ryzen 5 3600
a 240mm rad is plenty for that
also yes, rad as intake is better for cpu temps
but dont forget about the rest of your system
I plan on cooling a Ryzen 7 3700x with a 280 rad, the 240 will definitely be enough
top exhaust cpu cooler allows the rest of the system to get cooler air, and your 65w tdp cpu can deal with slightly warmer air
So just get a 240mm
yeah, even a 120mm rad is enough for the 3600
im just assuming this is for looks, because the stock cooler is totally fine from a usability standpoint
Ok
If you’re overclocking you’ll probably want an aftermarket cooler, if only for the sake of noise
Well, I'm wanting a good AIO for when I eventually overclock my CPU
ahh
Which is why I was looking at a 360
well thats fine, but dont expect much out of ryzen
you could probably get an extra 200mhz boost out of it if your lucky
to really oc zen 2 you need to go sub 0
like to get past 5ghz
Oh no, I don't need to get to 5GHz
The games I play will run just fine with my CPU as it is rn lol
Even on max graphics, and what not
then dont worry about planning on tons of thermal headroom
Would the 240mm version of that MasterLiquid AIO be as good as Corsair's H150i 240mm, or would Corsair's be better
the corsair one is prolly gonna last much longer
Would it also cool my CPU much better?
If they’re the same radiator size, it depends on the CFM
Also construction of the radiator itself
i would say the differences are minimal
the corsair probably has a higher fin density, could have better fans
just depends on the spec sheet
Tbh from what I’ve experienced, with Corsair fans you’re paying for the brand
thats facts
But Corsair is known for having very good AIOs
Oh the Corsair 240mm has 2 ML series fans on it
75 CFM for fan airflow
For Corsair
What’s your budget for an AIO?
Have you checked out NZXT at all?
I’ve universally heard very good things about them. The Kraken X63 is a 280mm AIO that puts out 98 CFM
If you want to choose between the CM and Corsair, definitely go for the Corsair
I did, but I don't think their AIOs would be compatible with my mobo's software for RGB, or for dragon center, or whatever
Ah
And I heard some people don't like CAM for a few reasons
Like that their AIOs show your CPU temps, and stuff on their AIO caps, though
And I heard they have good thermals
z63 is clean
All of NZXT’s stuff is apparently very good in thermals and acoustics. The LCD cap thing is only on the Z series, and if I’m not mistaken that’s a good amount more expensive than the X series
Also I’m pretty sure NZXTs would be compatible with built-in RGB synchronizers like ASUS Aura
Not from direct experience, but I see no reason why they wouldn’t be
What about with Mystic Light?
Nah. Apparently Mystic Light only works with select brands, which does not include NZXT
Fr
Yeah
The latest source I could find on that was from late 2019, let me do some more research and see if that’s changed
Yeah.. NZXT's Z series is a bit expensive..
Seems like it hasn’t. Apparently MSI only partners with select brands/products
Which still doesn’t include NZXT
Does Asus partner with them
Hmm. From what I can tell, NZXT doesn’t really sync with any brand
NZXT has some decent products, but terrible support
so just a bit of a warning there
tho x/z 63/73 are some of the best noise normalized AIOs out there rn, esp for GPU AIO cooling due to much flatter coldplate (and btw, AIOs can easily rival and beat some custom loops if they are good, which NZXTs newest generation can).
What about MSI's AIOs
Are they worth anything
Well apparently they put their pumps IN the radiator
And pump cool water into the loop
I've never heard of that being done before
Is the kraken x63 good? It's cheaper than the x62 but apparently is missing the ability to control fan speed in CAM?
Overall would you guys recommend it for a 10700k and a 3080
most nzxt aios are fine
it should be good for a 10700k
just dont trust the temp display on it though
Alright. So I read I can just control fan speed in the good anyway, but hopefully the x63 will be quiet enough that I don't feel the need to mess with that
Thanks
np
How good is MSI's MAG CORELIQUID 360R
not great (Performs at the level or worse than say a H100i 240mm as a 360mm aio)
What about Cooler Master's MasterLiquid ML360R
no
masterleaker still afaik (reputation with leaking)
Just grab a Arctic freezer ii
really good
like best performing noise-normalized aio GN tested iirc
and only behind clc360 in pure perf because clc360 gest loud asf
How long are the tubes on the 360mm variant of that series
long tube
Cause I'm thinking of taking a 360, and mounting it to the front of my case, with the tubes down at the bottom of the radiator
That'll work as long as the case doesn't have like a psu shroud that blocks it
I have the Lancool II
Don't think that'll be an issue
Just have to have long enough tubes
Does it need any software to control the fans, and pump speed, and all that
And is it proprietary..
Fans are controllable by anything that controls fans ofc
Cause me, and my dumb self got some of Cooler Master's MF120R ARGB fans, instead of Corsair fans, or something
Would it be compatible with Cooler Master's software
That should apply to all fans
Coolermaster's what software
If it can change crap on the motherboard, then yes ofc
I think it's MasterPlus..
Yeah, unless I do something with the BIOS..
Bios fan curves are pretty nice once you get one done
(Like clear CMOS, or something if I had to)
Ok.. but what if I wanted to use software to control the fans, and AIO instead
Look, if that software can control case fans, it can control aio fans.
Well Ik
It doesn't use some wacky usb hub
Oh wait
It uses a standard 4 pin pwm cable
I'm dumb
I can use CM fans if those fans won't work with the software
Probably will, cause I want most, if not all of my fans to be ARGB so the build will look better
The p12 fans it comes with are amazing for the aio tho
Really good pressure optimised fans for AIOs
Is it possible to test an AIO before I put it into my system btw
Or do I have to put it in, then test it
Cause I wanna make sure it doesn't leak, or anything
Put in then test
You can put paper towels on pump and rad if you wanted to be really really careful
What if I tried doing what GN did in their video
@low pumice noctua noctua noctua noctua
(Running an AIO outside of a system to test it for leaks, or whatever)
Would that damage it in any way
shouldnt damage it
So I could do that to make sure it doesn't leak all over the inside of my system if it does leak
@cold island Most Noctua fans afaik aren't really focused on pressure, so not too great for AIOs, but Noctua fans are still amazing
:v it was a joke but their f series are for static pressure
yeah
I need to replace the fan on my Enermax ETS-T40F-RF heatsink. Do I have to use the exact same fan that comes with the unit, or can I replace it with another 120/140mm fan?
technically you can use any fan, as long as it fits and has the side clips to attach to the heatsink itself. the safest option is to find an exact same fan, but if you can i know noctua at least makes some ones like those to attach to heatsinks @delicate talon
I would take the AIO, and plug the block into ny mobo's PUMP_FAN header, right
And if I still chose to get that Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML 360R, would the tubes reach if I mounted the radiator with the tubes down in my Lian Li Lancool II case
I need feedback. If I was to fully loop in an o11 dynamic, most likely white fluid, what would look the best? White case, white components, white fluid, or black components instead?
@wet patio
It's all personally preference and really you'd have to match what's in your room but I would do all white.
Or if you want to make some cookies and crème you could do some white and some black and mix it up.
I think white and black would be best. I mean I have a wood desk atm but still, I think ill do black and some white. Maybe build it on pc building sim would be the best thing to see what looks best? @light fog
Also since white parts are somewhat more expensive...idk if I should do white or black fans anyway. I think black parts with a white case and white fluid would go best tbh
Go for it.
Needed some reassurance, thank you a ton lol
Hey guys, do you think that the x73 aio cooler with 3 fans will fit in the corsair spec-06? ive looked through it and i think it will but im still not sure
@random raven i think it will but i think that mounting a 360mm with one of the fans blowing into a psu shroud would be a waste. i'd go with a 240mm
and top mount it
240 mm as in 2 fans? sorry im not the best with this stuff
Core i5-8600K Coffee Lake 3.6 GHz
oh yeah u definitely dont need a 360mm. even a 240mm is a lot. generally i9’s run decently hot with i7’s cooler and i5’s even cooler. a 240 mm will support quite a bit of overclocking on your cpu without issue
ok thank you 🙂
np
What cooler would yall recommend for a 3970x? I'm looking for an AIO that i can play games with and run cpu heavy programs. Any help would be appreciated
@obtuse apex I suggest you look at a NH-U14S TR4-SP3
Ive heard great things about Noctua coolers but im not big on the brown fans. can i switch it out for a black fan?
I'll look at AIOs later
Well, they're not in stock often, but you can grab the chromax versions
For example:
https://noctua.at/en/nf-a14-pwm-chromax-black-swap
alright thanks for the help ill look into it
ok aio tips: dont buy a huge aio bc u probably dont need it. dont buy the stupid overpriced corsair things. some are like $160 for a 240mm rad. almost all decent aios will perform very similarly. avoid knockoff brands bc if it breaks, your pc is now quite wet
@obtuse apex
oh i see u have a threadripper. be careful with aios. they wont come with a mounting bracket for your cpu usually
Yeah after a bit of research I don’t think AIO is the way to go with threadrippers unfortunately. I’ll probably stick to air cooling if I decide to do the TR build
@obtuse apex Gamers Nexus did a video on TR AIOs iirc, the size of the coldplate matters from AIO to AIO, since TR has a bigger IHS
Can anyone tell me the tube length on a Cooler Master MasterLiquid ML360R AIO
@proper fulcrum 30-ish cm
so they're about.. 300mm long..
ok.. if I got that, and put it in a Lian Li Lancool II case, with the GPU mounted vertically, and mounted the radiator to the front of the case, with the tubes down.. would they reach
that is for you to figure out
read reviews on both and compare
IF you want to deal with building a custom, you are also going to have to do some research on your own
I already have read the reviews on both
I'm just wanting to know if the tubes are long enough if I wanted to mount a 360 in front with tubes down
@lusty wadi so (sorry like i said im not good with this stuff) I should get the x53 not the x63
I am the one who asked yester day "Hey guys, do you think that the x73 aio cooler with 3 fans will fit in the corsair spec-06? ive looked through it and i think it will but im still not sure"
@proper fulcrum if you have read the reviews, why ask us to tell you the result?
Nvm.
@burnt goblet Sorry for the tube length, and other stuff I'm wanting to know not being in said reviews, or on the AIO manufacturer's website.
google is your friend for stuff like this
hence why i said, you are going to have to do some research on your own
that is the answer for your first question about the 360 rad
Does anyone know if the be quiet shadow wings 2 have good air pressure and speed does anyone own them?
they are decent fans
Ok i may get the white version to put in my phanteks p300
@random raven yeah you’ll be fine with the x53. and unless ur doing a lot of overclocking even a 120mm would be fine. that would open up more mounting options for your case too
tbh just get a reasonable air cooler at the point
i mean if thats what u need
Seems adequate, Max temp of 74C on the cpu
does the wraith prism cooler do a good job at keeping temps down on a 3700x during prolonged gaming?
yes
ok, im not trying to buy an extra cpu cooler if i dont need one
you dont need to
I am excited for the new SL120 case fans from Lian Li
Hi everyone I hope y’all are having a wonderful day/evening/night. I’m looking into upgrading my pc with the RTX 3070, ASUS AMD AM4 ROG Strix X570-E Gaming ATX Motherboard, Lian li O11 Dynamic XL or Thermaltake view 51 and I wanna add water cooling to the whole system. Can anyone help with the water cooling?
You'd probably have to choose between a custom liquid cooling and AIO cooling
you might have some bad time working on the custom cooling
is it hard to do?
but the AIO cooling is easy to install but it also has some problems such as leaks , problems because of the way u installed it
is it hard to do?
@left tiger depends on ur experience tbh
gotcha
i've never installed one since it's complicated
i'll be installing a new AIO after 3 days or so
i wanted one for aesthetics so it was gonna be a simple pump, reservoir, and one going to the cpu
and ik there are different tubings
just dont know if experience is needed
the tubes are the the most hard thing to work with i believe
if u use soft tubing it shouldnt be hard
I was considering a custom loop with my build but I'm about to head out the door and buy an AIO. One of the mistakes I made early one was fan choice - the QLs are bad rad airflow, but I like how they look. Don't make my mistake if you want to build a loop.
bending hard tubing isnt the easiest tho yea
idk if i have ql fans
They're the Corsair ones with RGBs on both sides so they look good intake and exhaust
yes
I don't know about those
ill look it up
there is a thing to put in mind
Liquid coolers can harm ur device when installing it wrong
yea
AIO's might leak in worst case
*and the silence
but the nzxt aios are the only good ones and they hella expensive
but i liked the look of the nzxt's kraken ngl
what's ur budget?
i bought nzxt kraken x53 for 130 dollars
33 for the shipping but it actually depends on ur location
if u like it for the look u can buy The kraken m22
even tho it's not that good
i like the display so id do the x63
you can install an lcd display in ur case instead
you can play Videos
but yeah ur right the display is insane
@calm umbra but which one is better for low temp. bc I have fans for cooling and my room probably more hotter than hell. so i want the get the lowest temp
there is no big difference
but a custom one is for sure better
if you just want an easy installation get an All-In-One
Can we do private convo?
sure thing
Anyone available to help with some case fan questions?
Ok sorry @lusty wadi I’m planning to build in a Corsair obsidian 1000D and wondering about optimal case fan setup
The stock config allows for 8 120mm’s in the front, 3 140mm’s up top, and 2 120mm’s in the back
any rads?
I’m planning to do this one solely on airflow
I was thinking of populating all of those slots with noctua pwm chromax’s
ok then id go all intake on front and exhaust on top and rear
Ok that’s what I was thinking too. If I do that, it looks like total intake is around 506 CFM and exhaust is 374 CFM. Is that too out of balance?
Ok. Think that setup will be good from a noise and airflow standpoint?
thats about a 10/7 ratio
as long as u dont crank the fans to max noise shouldnt be a problem. airflow should be great with that many fans regardless
the pos pressure will keep dust out too so thats a plus
Right on thanks! Another question around fan control then...
?
I could combine the control with headers on the mobo as well as a separate controller that comes with the mobo (asus) or...
The case comes with a Corsair command pro controller but only 6 fan connections on it.
yeah. as long as the fans have power theyll go. dont try to chain splitters tho.
the commander pro does speed. it then has 2 ports for lighting hubs
Ok I was assuming connecting through the mobo as well as it’s controller would control speed as well?
2 commander pros would probably be reallg nice from a consistency standpoint. however, im not sure if the software is compatible with 2
Yeah Corsair told me I could use 2, but trying to avoid having to buy something else just to control
if u have some on the commander and some on the mobo then i feel like that would just make things more difficult by having to use 2 separate things to control fan speed
if ur willing to drop $500 on a case id say a $70 fan hub is a good investment
Yeah I agree. What I’m talking about is the mobo comes with its own controller (separate from the Corsair command pro). So between the mobo headers and that controller, I think I can connect all 13 fans and control them with ASUS software
oh i gotcha. then that should be fine...unless youre looking to chain lighting effects
Yeah, not really interesting in lighting on this one. Going full performance / noise
what do u need so much space/airflow for?
is it mostly drives and stuff or just insane cooling?
Honestly I know it’s overkill.
But planning to build a beast with a rtx 3090 and i9 10900k
i mean thats what i have and my o11 dynamic should do just fine
plus if u have bottom mounted fans it helps cool the 3090 a lot
Hmm I’ll have to look at that. Always had pretty good luck with Corsair cases but haven’t looked much at the Lian li
im just saying nobody buys a super tower sized case unless u have like 10 drives that need cooling too
really just a waste of space
No problem for an EATX in that o11?
dont think it fits eatx but i gotta ask what u need that for. eatx like huge cases is for tons of connections. it u have 1 gpu and fan hubs its really unnecessary. at the end of the day its completely up to preference but that board is going to look to empty
this is an atx
there is an o11 dynamic eatx case too
the o11 xl
That looks nice. Do you intake in the bottom?
Well now you’re making me go back to the drawing board lol. I just have a tendency to go to the max on everything. It maybe I should scale it back some.
i would suggest doing that. usually these huge cases are for professionals and creators/renderers/architects
Yeah it’s a good suggestion. And I really appreciate all your other help @lusty wadi Gotta run but thanks!!
Ty
Anyone have a recommendation on how I should configure my fans in the .meshify s2? I have 3 corsair ll120s to add to the 3 140s the case came with
im getting a meshify two which has 1 rear, 3 front, 2 top, 1 bottom, best orientation (i have 5 more powerful fans and 2 so-so fans
*meshify c
@frigid owl id put the 3 corsairs in front intake for the cool factor. then the rest on rear and top to exhaust
Yeah I was thinking either that or the corsair on top but also I didnt know how the mix of 140 and 120 would matter
Depending on which is intake or exhaust
as long as it fits the case i honestly cant notice much of a differnce
beyond 1 intake and 1 exhaust, fans have diminishing returns
you definetly arent gonna lack in airflow regardless
Need some help deciding what I can buy on amazon for around $50 on 3 exhaust fans, my case came with 3 rgb 120mm phanteks fans and i wanted to match them but they are out of stock everywhere. Only the 140mms are available, so now im trying to match the fans with a different brand that doesnt stick out too much. Ill also need a controller... If you guys can help it would be appreciated
Also If possible id like to stay on amazon to buy these but if i have to go somewhere else Ill take what i can get.
Would a 360mm AIO from EK do WAY better than one from Cooler Master
slightly better at most unless the coolermaster one is like beyond total crap
Would it beat a ML360R
anyone know if an x63 is a good/reliable cooler ?
use water
If I get a copper radiator and nickel cpu/gpu block, will that be a problem?
Also, what fittings will I need for a full custom loop with one radiator and a distro plate?
@novel wing very good cooler, quite reliable, but terrible company. If you are the very unlucky person of say getting a lemon AIO, NZXT does a terrible job for support
Corsair has good RMA @novel wing and if you buy through amazon they can refund you if you don’t want the same AIO. It’s what I did
Would a 120mm radiator cool a Ryzen 5 3600?
What's the use case? 120mm rads are usually a pretty bad option relative to the other options.
Gaming
As in, what are you putting it in, this time, literally what's the case you're using
Why not a 240/280mm rad or go cheaper with a decent air cooler?
Im having a debate on whether I should get an aio or air cooler
Just don't go 120mm aios, they're nearly always in the weird like 80$ spot of not as good cooling as the good air coolers or aios, and not cheap enough to make sense, or cheap enough to be competitive in price-to-performance
Ok so 240 also could i just get an aio and a radiator with no fans
So i can put my own fans on it
Well if i got no fans it would be cheaper?
You basically can't
Oh
What are some good rgb fans for nzxt h510?
gotta check the fan sizes first, and then you can just find any fan with that size with some good reviews on amazon or newegg, etc.
the case description should display what fan sizesthey have for top, front, and back
Why is their a prong missing on PWM fan splitters?
Hi everyone
I wanted to ask if you guys knew by any chance if the EK-AC GEFORCE RTX D-RGB
Water block will be compatible with the newer generation RTX 30xx series models by any chance?
I'm looking to buy this kit EK Liquid-Cooling Barebone Kit (AMD + RTX) & Lian Li PC-O11 Dynamic (https://www.newegg.com/p/2AM-00H0-00002) hence why I want to make sure it would be compatible
Please and thank you
look at the specs of the kit on the manufacturers page @vagrant horizon
Don’t buy a water block yet.
look at the specs of the kit on the manufacturers page @vagrant horizon
@burnt goblet Already did that, but they haven't updated the compatible cards (if they ever will) I guess because the 30xx series hasn't come out yet
Don’t buy a water block yet.
@autumn spire It comes with the case, it's a whole cooling package
One company has a reference block out. But even the FE is not a reference. We don’t have info yet. Jay2cents did a vid on this I think
So I'm debating whether to buy the case or not because I'm planning to buy a RTX 3080 once they are available... So we're all guessing here it seems
its like any custom block. IF the manufacturers page does not say it is compatible. Dont buy it
So. Why do PWM splitters have missing prongs?
Alright I'll wait to buy the case then, thank you anyways @burnt goblet @autumn spire
Well obviously. I think you would be wasteing money
@autumn spire link a picture of what you mean?
I bought a set too .. They are just like this
one prong is missing on one of them.. And they are listed as PWM
no idea why that would be the case
its not something i have thought about recently either
as in, i have not handled any recently
IIRC it's because it can only take 1 fan's PWM signal
I just looked up a diffrent brand one.. I found the same result
Since there's only 1 pin that handles signaling of fan speeds and such, and it shows up as only 1 fan to the mobo
power wise it should be the same
that one looks like a Y splitter
It is
so it "just" sends what it it receives at the start
the 2 connectors above "blindly" mirror what is fed into it at the single connector out of frame
So basiclly one fan gets a signal. Then just shares its power with the second.. Inteesting.. Ill try it on my AIO and see if it woirks
i think you are missing the point
red is input
of both power and "control"
that gets mirrored and sent to the 2 fans that are connected on the yellow end
I cant say i understand it.. ill test it and see if it works. I actually not sure the Artic Fans on my AIO are even PWM\
P12s are
I have the 240 Artic Liquid Freezer II
simple way to tell is to see if the connector has 3 pins or 4 pins
But I'm pretty sure it's pwm
I vaguely remember 3
If it turns out to be the case ill change them.. I want PWM control on them
Im aware that Artic P series is good stuff
(As in, I doubt they can be so good without having pwm lol)
I do know their are DC version available. and i dont think PWM matters in cooling performance. Its just helps manage lower speeds and finer copntrol
@autumn spire alright so you know how the PC can tell you what RPM the fan is running at?
The Artic liquid freezer splices everything together. The pump gets PWM control for certain. But the fans are 3 pin
The PC tells that based of off a signal done by a cord. It can't read multiple signals from a single header. Thus when using a splitter it'll cut the fan RPM reader off and only read it from one fan
All fans are still running as PWM as the forth cord is the actual PWM cord. The middle-ish (missing one) is the signal/RPM reader
what if i plugged a DC fan into it?
It would then only have the 12v line and ground line connected to it. As DC fans control the speed via DC voltage control it'd run at full speed until you go into BIOS and say that the header needs to run in DC mode
orrr
I See. Ok that makes sense
Blah blah blah
I thought that fan splitter was the 12 pin to dual 8 pin nvidia adapter lol
I think nvidia stole their design
Hey guys should i have 2 exhaust one mounted at the top and 2 intakes mounted at the front
yep, that should be neutral air pressure
u should have one on top bc heat always rises to the top
neutral air pressure in my opinion is better than positive and negative
@vagrant horizon no it’s 2000 series I’m pretty sure.. they have 3000 series blocks but not part of the barebones kit. I wanted to get it as well lol
Be quiet dark rock pro is the way to go
I'm thinking of getting a 240mm AIO, with fans to match the other 6 CM fans I'm going to have in my case, and I am having trouble figuring out if I can use their ARGB/PWM hub to control both fan speed, and the color, and use a temperature probe with it. Problem is.. it does not look like it has a slot for their proprietary temperature probe. Any suggestions?
(I'm using Cooler Master MF120R fans, and got a 3 fan kit that came with a temperature probe, mini controller, and all that stuff btw)
nzxt kraken x63 with the r5 3600?
just use stock cooler or a $50 air cooler
gammaxx 400
Kinpin t-rex
@idle tiger not compatible with am4 tho
Is it really?
product page says hold down bracket is for am3 and the rest of the intel sockets
I guess it's also am4
I'm looking at a CM AIO, as it would be more compatible with the fans I already have, as opposed to another brand AIO
I’m really thinking about removing my current cooler and putting my old one back on
But I have no thermal paste to apply
Is there still any on the cpu @proper cradle
Yea
y'all got any ideas on what to get for custom loops?
don’t cheap out
cheap tubing is definitely bad, especially since it has a higher chance or creasing when bent
atleast for soft tubing
Hard tubing is recommended for the looks
zmt
That wouldnt be the reason for "cheap soft tubing" to be bad. Just dont make sharp bends, whether expensive or cheap tubing. Cheap tubing can be bad if made out of bad materials that degrades over time from some chemical reaction and then causes gunk buildup
@main bridge As for what to get, Bykski or Barrow. Very cheap for the quality - about $340 for a RGB CPU/GPU loop with 240/360 rad setup. If you want to pay smth like 1.8x - 2.4x the price for the best of the best, then Aqua Computer or Heatkiller. Companies like EK, Thermaltake, Alphacool, etc dont really give enough cooling perf increase over the cheaper ones to justify the extra cost
As in you're paying for the brand. Generally speaking too, top end (Heatkiller/Aqua Computer) gives maybe 10c overall better noise normalized perf I think? So also not worth unless you're really pushing your OC or smth
$335 for the Bykski loop:

Thanks, ill investigate
Gonna get the 3080, and I’ve currently got an i9-9900k but I need a new cpu cooler, not sure if I should go with 280mm liquid cooler or the Noctua NH-D15 (or another model, if it’s better). Or should I possibly just wait on testing for the 3080 to see how it affects CPU temps, if you guys think it’ll affect it as much as people seem to assume it will
Noctua is definitely a good brand. Corsair also makes good liquid coolers.
What case?
220t rgb Corsair
@kindred kindle the simple solution is to wait. But i would not be surprised at all if it turns out that there is nothing to worry about
(unles you are already running things in a case with a setup that is at best silly)
and no, that is not aimed at you
lol, not OC or anything like that, just a general consumer. Hopefully not silly lmao.
but at the people that are running around clucking about the FE cooler being bad for CPU temp :)
Yeah, I can’t imagine it affecting it more than 1 or 2C°, but we’ll see in a few days 🙂
Thanks a bunch!
CPU cooler is already dealing with a bunch of heat from GPU to begin with so it probably will have minimal impact for most people
thoughts on adding rear intake for vrm cooling and positive air pressure with 360mm top mounted rad in exhaust and triple front intake?
yeah that’s a good design, just dont get a high rpm fan on the front, as it will cause turbulence and will affect cooling.
Quick question: So I've never done water cooling at all but, I'm looking at a case that supports a 360mm and a 280mm radiator and I've got a friend who's willing to sell me his old 240mm radiator. Can I stick the 240 into the case or does it need to be the exactly 280/360?
if it supports 360, it should work fine with a 240 rad

@charred fossil if you want a good case, you have the corsair 275r airflow.
If you want a good case, Coolermaster TD500 mesh hands down my best suggestion
anybody had experience with r9 3900x and 3rd party coolers
i currently using what came with it, Wraith Prism LED Cooler
would it be worth going with something like the Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo CPU Cooler
212evo no
I'd say a step up would be like a Gammaxx 400 as a cheap option, NH-U12s/Dark rock 4/Mugen 5 rev. B and similar coolers for a real upgrade
2nd question, thanks for the suggestions, you think closed-loop liquid coolers worth it
AIOs, well if you want good temps for OCing or something, sure they can be
But if you just want a cooler that can cool the cpu at a lower noise level, a 60$ air cooler works just fine
ok!
@viral fjord
Hmm intake on the back side.
I find that odd but since you have top exhaust and an AIO I guess that's fine.
Very positive pressure.
how would you do it?
i just figure a 10900K would benefit from extra VRM cooling
those are the only 7 fan mounts that the case supports
@viral fjord I say you do it and tell us about it
I haven't seen testing on rear intake with top exhaust before
It'll be interesting
If possible when you do it
the customer doesn't want overclocking so it'll be at stock
Should test it both ways y'know
Intake and exhaust
Whichever does better in both CPU temps and vrm temps stays
oh wait I forgot he's actually getting a different case that only supports 280mm at the top
but I might have another customer doing a config like this
unconfirmed but likely
oh if he does order then i will do it like that the unconfirmed part is whether he will actually order lol
he said he will once he manages to get his hands on a 3080, but sometimes they change their minds
hmm
he wants an NZXT KRAKEN Z73 so the rad must be front mounted
true, nothing I can do about it though
so front exhaust and top and rear as intakes?
I'm tryna think
that's pushing against heat naturally rising, dunno how effective it'll be
1 intake and 5 exhaust is probably not viable
It's interesting to think about tho
Hmm
@viral fjord bad drawing but you might get the point
using negative pressure to take air from vents
Hi everyone, I got the Lian Li digital RGB fans and one of them is being a bit noisy until I tap it. Is there a spot to lubricate these? I tried to find videos but nothing on these ones.
I’ve already had to replace one with a faulty RGB, not stoked on this new problem.
@viral fjord negative pressure pulls in fresh air from random spots
It might work who knows
hmm if I have free time I might run some airflow experiments but I won't be terribly scientific
I love the little heat and airflow maps.
i need to talk to someone who knows more about AIOs than i do 😩
you should know that you have to ask before anyone can answer @sharp zinc :)
true sorry ive been going through things and trying to figure it out. Its the same issue as before, high idle temps and I assumed it was the thermal paste was bad but i just replaced it and its still spiking. Tried changing the pump input location and ramping the fan speeds and aio pump speeds up to max and no change. it idles between 30-40 with spikes up to 50 at idle.
im about to run a benchmark to see how high it gets at load
mounting pressure of cooler itself against the cpu.
i have it tight as it can get
now, question: have you had actual problems with it while actually using the system?
yeah random shut down with the message "pc shut down cause cpu temp to high!" but ive never actually seen it reach above 70 and ive been keeping hwinfo open to watch for it. i just happen to have been not looking at it for a few min each time it happens so i havent actually witness a super high cpu temp spike
and this has only really been this big of an issue when i got the AIO. before i had higher than average temps but not so high that things broke.
launching a game now to see if it spikes high.
idle temps don't really matter
i mean the reason it worries me is the random shut offs with "cpu temps to high!"
opening a game and playing didnt change the temps at all, so ima try witcher 3 bench and see if that does anything
cousin lied to me it doesnt seem to have a benchmark. know any games that do?
ok well highest i could get it is 56 so ima just see if it happens again. if it does ima call manufacturer
@sharp zinc " i just happen to have been not looking at it for a few min each time it happens so i havent actually witness a super high cpu temp spike"
maybe log the temp to a file using a program every second or smth?
What program would be able to do that
@sharp zinc
HWINFO...Just Google how to log data with HWINFO it's free.
does the m22 kraken support the lga 1200 socket
well if you look at it at a different way it doesnt say it
so i didnt know if it actually supportedd it
since from one perspective it didnt say lga 1200
it does
which is why you always look at the manufacturers site for info
@burnt goblet i sent it to you check ur dms
aye aye, its their "condensed" presentation
in the future, always go for the actual "specific to X product" page :)
ok thx
you are very welcome :) and thank you for showing me that silly condensed view :)
it is practical to know they have something like that :)
ok thanks for your help
what is the best performance cooler (water and air cooling)
depends on situation
is there an answer for jsut generally
on the air side, something like the d15 from noctua
NH-D15 best air best water would I guess be custom loop. Unless you mean an AIO.
Anyone know if the id cooling pinkflow aio is good
@oak patio good AIO is the Arctic Freezer 360
cool thank you
whats the best case fan
thanks
no prob
I'm using a 240 rad rgb platinum
So with 3080 coming out, suggestions on nhd15 vs 240mm AIO? Have a 9900k
whichever you want really
nh d15 is what like 90 and you can grab an arctic liquid freezer 240mm for like 105 so yeah^
Haven’t seen much on how heat from 3080 affected cpu temp on fan cooler vs AIO yet
At work, planning on reading/watching as much as I can tonight
like 1-3c
in other words: it is more important that you sit correct in your chair
strong back>cpu temps
As Nachos said, not that much.
1 - 3c temp difference is so small it only matters in like very high end OC, tho at that point you wont be using any air cooler nor water cooling. I dont think that is even dry ice area. So basically LN2 only area
FE cooler is probably better cuz case ambient stays low after say 5 hrs of use.
one fan pushes are out of the case and other pushes it almost directly to a case fan. That's a lot better airflow management then on standard air cooled cards
Literally worst case I can even imagine it really being is like 8c, which might be the "dry ice worrying level" or smth
unless of course you'd trying to OC a 10900k on a stock Intel cooler or smth strange
TLDR: shouldnt matter for just about anyone
so, what you are saying: a regular user from this server being themselves?
😳 impossible
so, what you are saying: a regular user from this server being themselves?
I mean, also true
that was in particular about the "OC a 10900k on stock intel cooler"
ye
🤏
oo eisbaer those are nice
and u can just slap a gpu waterblock+tubing in there and have a custom loop
@kindred kindle the spec page for your case has the info you need to figure that out
or you can also look at the noctua site, they have a comp checker for it
I’d just be worried about this piece
Though the AIO fits just fine but the nhd15 is huge lol
thats not case clearance, that is mainboard clearance
which again, noctua has a comp checker for
Whoops, yeah that’s what I meant
I’ll do that then, thanks yet again
Huge help lately
there you go
scroll down
and find your mainboard model there
it should be there
and you are very welcome.
what is a good air cooler for a mATX case
Building this bad boy with a 3080 rog edition
Any tips or anyone familiar with custom water cooling on this case?
Interested in opinions on products/brands
Also prices arent an accurate representation bc markets volatile and i plan on acquiring most components around black friday/cyber monday to snag some deals
I should say liquid cooling**
I just gut out the parts put them on a long ass wire and shove it in the freezer set at max
q
anyone know the best aio cooler i can get currently?
@topaz blaze Really ugly but amazing thermals is Arctic freezer 2
a non ugly is really any nzxt aio
they cool pretty decent
@topaz blaze literally get an Arctic freezer ii
I have a CoolerMaster ML360R and it performs better than the Corsair H150i so if that says anything.
Yes
@light fog For your 3090 nvlink cooling https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rolls-Royce-511-8-Turbo-Jet-Engine/173663329804

is a fractal design celsius s24 better than a scythe mugen rev b
For a ryzen 2600 at 3.8ghz or higher would it better to go for scythe Fuma 2 air cooler or a 120mm aio cooler, currently using stock and need something better
I have a deepcool tesseract case and it only fits a 120mm aio at the rear or a air cooler up to 168mm in height.
How should I have my fan config in Lian li o11 dynamic? All intake besides the rear or all intake besides top and rear
Front all intake one rear outake plus psu aio radiating out the top bottom intake
hello guys does fit in nxzt kraken 63 in corsair 465icue ? have any idea ?
@proud osprey yes, the 280mm radiator of the Kraken x63 fits in the Icue 465
@burnt goblet thank u but i want to locate radiator top of the case
😄
https://www.corsair.com/medias/sys_master/images/images/he7/hfe/9330348851230/-CC-9011189-WW-Gallery-465X-WHITE-05.png <- that answers it for you @proud osprey
generally: The case manufacturers will have pictures like the one above on their sites
you just have to actually go through their gallery of pictures for the specific case you are looking at
but u guys have better answers
yes, but we can only answer correctly when you know what to ask
Do we though.
Does anyone use Corsair QLs and has a commander? if so, do you use more than 6?
like replacing aio fans with the corsair ones
am curious to see if the commander for it is worth it
@somber river mugen 5 should be plenty for that. Also shadow rock 3 should be about the same as well
@safe citrus I do What do you seek from RGB's power
Hi everyone, what cooler would you use for an i9-10850k ?
I am looking at the Thermaltake Floe DX 280 Dual Riing Duo 16.8 Million Colors RGB 36 LED LGA2066
Noctua U12a
great
thanks
Not sure if it's compatible with a ASUS TUF Z490-Plus
what's your thought ?
No reason it's not, what case though?
going with a Fractal Design Define 7
that works just fine
thanks
check the mounting pressure on your cpu cooler
and have you remembered thermal paste?
and removed the sticker
@tender bronze thanks for the response, went with the ql20s and two controllers bc am getting a dynamic xl
Wow that's a lot of thermal paste for ryzen
so I see ppl saying AIO on top of the O11 Dynamic but I tried that and the tubes are too long on my Silverstone AIO for that
👍👍👍👍
What about it
the temps are really low?
:v its idle
ya ik
its just satisfying to see low temps lol
Ln2
Start doing something
Get ln2 and see very low temp
Ya
the highest my gpu get when gaming is around 80
Ln2 or nothing
Wht?
Bruh
Thats a little high
i have 2060super
ya ik
My 2070 highest about 72-74
thats why i like looking at the idle temps
What case you have
Me too
i have a crappy ibuypower case
77c after half an hour of furmark
i want to get lianli o11
Same but idk if it’s better than p500a
Ima wait on reccomending anything but a td500 mesh until GN reviews em
GN Already reviewed the p500a
Oh I was thinking about the Corsair thing
5000d or whatever
P500a was the big p400a
hey all, decided to come here for this. my aio (corsair h100i) makes and odd gurgling sound. setting the performance to extreme in icue eliminates this sound, but makes the aio very very loud. my radiator is mounted on the right side of my case, with the tubing at the top of the radiator. any help?
Maybe tap it a couple times? Lol get the bubbles out
alright
so I am wondering what is the best 360 mm AIO for amd under like 130
@barren igloo lmao there arent many ngl .___.
for that price range
lemme see
I could do 200
150 dollars is a good spot ngl
yeah
that is what it is looking like for a 360
and I don't even need it rn
I have a little ryzen 5 3600
https://www.newegg.com/corsair-icue-h150i-rgb-pro-xt-liquid-cooling-system/p/N82E16835181192?Item=N82E16835181192&quicklink=true
https://www.newegg.com/nzxt-liquid-cooling-system-kraken-x/p/N82E16835146068?Item=N82E16835146068
these r ur best options probrably under 200 dolalrs 360 mm radioatoer w/fans
not doing it for the performance just for aesthetic
but if I am going to get one I am going to get the best for the moneyh LMFAO
get the kraken then i think it lookers cleaner
if u weant rgb though u can get seperate fans for about 75
yeah
I thought about getting the newest kraken z73 I think is what it is called
where it shows the temp of the CPU
lmao the x73 is just as good ngl
I think its between that and the Artcic liquid freezer 2 360
I am going to try and get the AIO a new case and then get like 6 fans
Reason: Bad word usage
because they ones I have now are not that good
@barren igloo I went w/ a Silverstone ARGB 360mm AIO and paid like $130 for it, I have had no complaints w/ it myself but yes most 360s will run $150-200
at least the software is horrible
Reason: Bad word usage
@final crescent yeah I think the artic freezer II is around that too
and for the price it seems to be the best
if given the option yea I would go w/ Arctic Freezer myself but it was not in stock and i needed like asap lol
yeah I don't need it rn I am just going for aesthetic
I want the cleanest looking and best setup for my age
What case?
K
Lian Li PC-O11DX\
I went w/ the PC-0011DW myself, first white case
I was more on a budget build last year. I got this computer last christmas
@final crescent how much is it like $99
it was $150 at Microcenter
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811112583 this is the one I want I think
same as mine but mine is white, i love my case
I have my current case on my desk
so now I am making sure the lian li fits on my desk without problems
What CPU cooler would you suggest of a Micro ATX build in a "SilverStone Technology SST-SG12B-V2 Micro-ATX Small Form Factor" Case? I'm moving one of my PC's to this so I can take it with me and a portable monitor overseas.
You guys should buy a chiller.
No?
Yes.
um im getting 9 120 mm fans for a build where would i get a hub for all the fans thats lkke the comamnder pro but for 9 fans ;-;
What size is recommended for the exhaust fan? I have the option of 1 120mm or 1 140mm, i'm going to be building inside of a lian li o11 dynamic XL
( I already have the radiator fans/side/bottom covered)
Can I use my Wraith prism on an R7 1700?
I'm assuming it would be good on it because the 1700 is only rated at 65 TDP
I don't need the Wraith Prism anymore and my dad wants to upgrade the PC he uses for whatever
what's a good CPU liquid cooler that can go with a lian li o11 dynamic razer edition?
@dull basin well llike a $900-1,000 which is being divided in the case, new motherboard , psu, and rtx 3070
im just doing upgrades
i doubt that at 1000 dollars youll be able to get an aio
oh wait
upgrades
still kind of wack
at most youll be able to get a cheaper aio
500+100+150+100
=850
with that budget something like a nzxt kraken might fit
or one of corsairs older aios
or just a arctic ii :P
I'm a huge fan of arctic freezer ii
@dull basin wdym well for a budget aio
it's the best damn aio on the market afaik
GN Noise Normalized perf chart:
the 280mm beats the 360mm x72
ok TIL that
@dull basin for rn all I need is the new motherboard(asus tuf gaming x570 plus), cpu cooler, case(lian li o11 razer edition) and 3070 I might get after they restock bc on drop Ik i wont get it.
ok then get the arctic freezer II
other coolers only beat it with loud asf full fan speeds
and listen to Mr1111
@past drum it has 240mm, 280mm, and 360mm versions
the 280mm version damn near beats good 360mm aios
Look at the kraken x72
oof
I wanna have three fans so I can use all the space the case have
bet
tempoarily out of stock :(
https://www.newegg.com/arctic-cooling-liquid-freezer-ii-360-liquid-cooling-system/p/N82E16835186249
is actually cheaper than the lian li
Yes
dats why freezer ii is literally the best aio on the market imo
cheap
effective
i will research on it later to get more info on it
Gamers nexus made an article
does he has a video? im done with reading thanks to college
Yes
well if he said is that good then that is all I need
I suggest 1.25x speed
They didn't have the 360mm in stock, so here was the main review without 360mm
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPaSEGe6ML0

bc my new set up will end up being ryzen 7 3700x(i already own), 1070ti mini(already own), asus tuf gaming x570 plus, ddr4 16gb ram 3200(already own), cpu liquid cooler, and 600w psu and lian li o11 razer edtion. But since I want to get the 3070 Ik i will need anothe psu but idk how many W i will end up needing.
Use pcpartpicker.com
I did and the estimate is 444w but everyone is saying "if u are getting a 3070 u need a 700w or more psu"
that is what is confusing me at this point
they always overestimate the PSU since they can't know what everyone is doing with their system
is the 444 with the 3070?
My Wraith Spire should work even better on a 1700 than on my 2700X right?
i don't know, does a 1700 put out less heat than a 2700?
@twin urchin yes the 444 is with the 3070, to be save we can round it to 450 or 500
if you go with 650 you have 200w of head room. that should be plenty
@twin urchin I think we should move this to #cases-psu-and-cooling lol
yes
@past drum ignore everyone else then
