Do we think that alder lake cpus will come with adapters for existing AIOs? Or will i have to wait for those to come separately
Depends on the company that made the aio tbh, some will some wont most likely
In looking at the Arctic liquid freezer 360. Just wondering if i will have replace the aio
if it's possible
they'll send the stuff to you
arctic does that stuff afain
so is noctua
not sure ek, but i believe they do too
I'd bet on arctic sending them out for free on request or something but you can always ask customer support for Arctic ye

Thx

Can anyone provide info that gives a difference between 3rd and 5th gen Ryzen 5 processors? Is the 5th gen worth getting over the 3rd gen? Thanks! 🙂
5000 series has better clocks, ipc and memory controller
5600x is hands down better at everything
tight, kind of what i thought.i just wanted to see what the deal was between the two
Hey what do yall think of this?
acrylic scratches very easily, would be my only concern
guys is 16x2 or 8x4 better
depends on the device, cpu and motherboard its on
- AMD Ryzen 5 5600X 3.7 GHz 6-Core Processor
- Asus TUF GAMING B550M-PLUS (WI-FI) Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard
gen 4

Hi guys! Anyone knows if this product is Single or Dual Rank? https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-260-pin-ddr4-so-dimm/p/N82E16820374024
I asked costumer service and they directed me here 🙂
There's 2 different people on Amazon that say dual rank, but who knows if they know what they're talking about. SR/DR isn't usually a spec that is commonly stated.
No way to tell without checking the physical stick
Yup, I have seen, but the only way would be having the stick itself. I was hoping maybe some of the owners sees this and can check in software. I asked GSkill directly and they told me it is batch dependent, not product number dependent, so it is a bit of a lottery :S
Exactly. It's basically a lottery. If you buy one and it's not dual rank you can always return it.
I wouldn't worry that much about it personally, unless you really need every drop of performance. In that case I wouldn't be getting 1.2v memory.
Also true hehe I wonder if dual/single rank really makes much of a difference if timings are better.
Anyone with a bit of experience on this? We always tend to minmax everything in tech and if it is 1-2% it does not really matter to me, but I am unfamiliar with the topic.
(there are RAM sticks on Amazon for 30USD more that are Dual Rank, do not know if it is worth to pay more for them - proabably not for a laptop, I would say)
Not really worth it for DR on a laptop for sure. As long as you have 2 sticks you'll get dual channel, which is definitely worth it.
If you want more performance out of your memory you'd be better off getting a kit that does 1.35v with much tighter timings, assuming you have a laptop that can run XMP. If your laptop doesn't do XMP then you probably don't even have a gaming laptop so no practical difference.
Dual rank is one of those things that really matters most to extreme overclockers
Hm, so I have a custom laptop with a RTX3080 100W and Intel i7-10750H (not really the best pairing), but it was a super nice price when I got it, before the silicon shortages and all.
Is the XMP for all Intel laptops or is it a BIOS thing? (I did not see it in BIOS)
Or can it be done in software?
Reason: Bad word usage
Reason: Too many infractions
It's a bios thing. If the motherboard supports voltage above 1.2v it would have XMP.
It's not always where you'd think, though. It can be called different things too, like A-XMP or DOCP.
Thank you!
Looking at prices for 1.35V it is probably not worth for me. It is a six core older intel after all.
You have all been very helpful, thanks! 🙂
"Older" being last generation, not really that old lol.
Happy to help
So when i use my 3200mhz ram would i have to enable XMP to achieve such speeds and if so what profile would be best suited to setup during bios
Yep xmp
Kinda figured cause my build rn has 2666mhz but no running dual channel but three sticks only because i need extra ram to help with some blender and unity work
But the sticks run at 2133mhz
That is not gonna be fun, 1 because 3 sticks is kinda ehh and 1 2133mhz is so slow
Yeah i figured but ill set it up with xmp and only 16gb ram for friend later before shipping it out
When you have 3 sticks only 2 are actually running in dual channel mode, the third is single channel
(Exceptions exist, like processors that support 3+ channels)
Ik mine doesnt
It's very unlikely it doesn't
3+ channels are usually limited to server hardware like Xeon and Threadripper processors
how do you know if XMP was succesfully enable?
You can check the timings, if your'e on AMD you can look at zentimings
i am on intel
You can just look at CPU-Z then
Less detailed but it'll be good enough
Memory tab will tell you current speed and main timings
i think that's bad?
its at 3200 16-18-18-36, guessing that's your xmp rating
Probably yeah
so it's good xd?
yup
It's enabled at least, 3200 isn't bad on Intel
@naive pendant
Patos response every time lol
The truth
So in this case it would be… asrock b560m hdv
what does HDV mean?
or msi b560m pro
same price
Msi if same price

@lime quartz
ye??/
How bout this one? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/msi-gf65-15-6-144hz-gaming-laptop-intel-core-i5-nvidia-geforce-rtx3060-512gb-ssd-8gb-memory-black/6456144.p?skuId=6456144
Tho the ram is a bit limiting
cani add onto it
If you're fine with open box
looks pretty tasty
i dont mind an open box
are the specs that much better?
than the legion
@burnt spearalso thanks for helping
Oh sorry im not on pc so I didn't see this, np
youre good
Im not sure on the performance difference from this 3060 to the 3050 ti bc im not sure where it says the wattage of the 3060
Which is how you tell the performance difference
But it has more ram, and its just overall better made, cpu i think is a little bit better too
Which one are you going with, @graceful prism ?
I like it and its got that open box price so you save quite a bit.
What are you going to use it for?
some gaming when im on the road 3d printing stuff at the office and general use
i just dont want to get something that cant do most
It'll do all of that for you
im looking to get into robotic welders in the next 5ish years would it do ok running whatever code it needs
i have no idea how intensive it is
I'm unsure on the battery life on it
And cooling
But you can always get a cooling pad
Ooo, nice. Based on the specs, you should be good
mostly gonna be plugged not under heavy load
And it'll last atleast 2hours at that price point
good deal
Definitely get one. I have a gaming laptop as well and it does get quite hot while underload
thats what ill get than
Yeah my brother has one
Hp omen 15 2070 super max q version
Let us know once you get it and how you like it
Nice
yea im down for that do they work in the seat also?
I had the acer triton 4000 (I think that was the name) wirh a 2070s max q, even with fans on max it got up to 90 while gaming
Returned that POS very quickly
First off it was supposed to have a 2070s max p not max q
The scratch pad stopped working after 2 days
Nice, I like those. I have the Lenovo Legion 15 with a 2070 Super Max-P
And for a 1500$ laptop it should have decent cooling
Returned that and got my pc
Couldn't be happier that i did lol
Well actually
Nice. I got my Legion since I was going to travel a lot more but then Covid happened so I may or may not get rid of it, it's still under a year old and I've used it a few times
No I got a skytexh pre built for 1200$ and went to replace mobo
But I also have my gaming desktop too, lol
And just received my RTX 3080 Ti this past Monday
Long story short I ended up having to get rid of EVERYTHING from that ore build except gpu, cpu, and ssd
Nice, how do you like it?
So actually spent more like 2k on my pc and a proper monitor... yeahhh never going skytech again
They screwed me over so many ways
Dam, that sucks. ABS is what I recommend, they use off shelf parts and I haven't heard anything bad yet.
yeah when i got my pc i didnt know anything about pcs
if only i could go back
It happens but at least you live and you learned.
yeah
ayo
any good b550 mobo, something around 175$ aud, that converts to 125 usd
cpu?
5600x
thank you

Hi, my motherboard has a header labeled j LED for 12 volt RGB, except it has no pins on it. do i have to solder them on? or is the header not usable?
I suspect it's included in higher end model of the mobo
Nope, either it's a board design where the rgb is only on the higher end model or they done goofed and forget
^
well im not about to risk it
i guess no rgb for me
but what's weird is that the pc came with two fans, one of which has ARGB
the otehr is just white, but there is no RGB header for them to connect to at all
the argb one is controlled by a case button
and I cant for the life of me find what they're connected to
I'd check your motherboards manual, if the pin shows up there then rma the board, if it's not then you'll know it's only on the higher board or something
i bought the PC used
Ahh
the case probably has an rgb hub
I'm kinda second guessing the descision because the mobo is kinda ass
but the GPU was good
1500$ for an i7-8700 and a 2080 with a full set of peripherals
kinda eh deal
where im at you can hardly find 2070s for this price
no
well newegg has erm, abs prebuilts if you're in the us
Yikes
new, with 3070
if I was in the US i wouldnt have bought a used PC
You can get an abs prebuilt with a 3070 and 10400 for that price
Dang, that sucks
So you are converting currency then?
Sucks times 2
and all pc retailers are overpriced :)
well outside of the us, that's pretty good
no, I paid in USD
the most braindead pc builder community that exists
they call a PC a case
and they call a GPU a VGA
Reason: Bad word usage
my country calls whole pc a cpu
forgot I was on newegg
LMAO
kek

half the retailers dont know that ram has different speeds
The first time that I hear Video Graphics Array, I laughed out loud
I asked someone what speed his ram runs at and he said 16 gb
no
like HDMI's drandpa
it doesn't only do input
uk the cable with like a billion pins in it
Video Graphics Array
vga/dvi cables are good imo
it's like im wrestling a bull trying to put it in
Analogue cables suck, that's for sure. There are still monitors being made today that come with them
just gotta aim it right
it's either they suck or my school has gone out of it's way to mutilate every VGA cable they have
Its easier with display port and HDMI cables though. And DP cables, have a release button for removal so they're pretty secured
but less secure as it has no screws that holds the cable in
Vga and dvi securing thing is wonky
DP cables are annoying in that moving it a bit can cause the signal to go out
none of my stuff except my mining rig has dp
others all has vga and/or dvi then hdmi
bro
Dp cables have a secure thing you press down, also easier to tell which way is right way up
you have no idea how abnoxious miners are here
in where you live?
You realise foxy has like 1 or 2 gpus mining and that's all lol
DP cable connectors are in the shape of a "D" so just like HDMI cables, you can only plug them in one way. Pretty hard to mess up
Way most miners are
like for the love of god, I get it, you have 76 3080s, now please stop posting about how much you hate elon musk on tiktok while promoting your discord server
not talking about foxy
im talking about miners in lebanon
Ehh imo dp is easier to tell right way up because it's not symmetrical idk why
Just making sure xD
hEy gUyS gO sPeND yOUr liFe sAviNGs oN tHiS jAnky aSs cUrRenCy iT's gOoD i pRoMIse
like fr just mine and leave us alone
I agree, I only said similar to HDMI since you can only plug them both in one way
"id rather buy my gpu from a mining rig than from a gamer becasue gamers dont know how to watch their GPU temps", he says as his fans are pinned at 100%, memory temps reaching 105 C
i mean i can keep it cooler but it's gonna disturb my sleep
Smol gpu
as he also plugs his collection of used 10 series cards that eh wants to sell
well damn
If they're running unpadded or crap padded gddr6x (3080 and up) that's actually quite likely
a miner who doesn't tweak their gpu
I might undervolt mine until I get more case fans since my GPU is heating up in some games
What temps?
i just do it kinda lazily
i feel sick seeing 90C on hotspot when I peek at HWMontor
core clock lowest vbios allows
Ignore hotspot
+1050 on vram
What's your non hotspot
65% power limit
core never above 85, memory and hotspot peek into the low 90s at high loads
but it still scares me
Are you using the stock fan curve for gpu fans?
yeah
bet
oh yeah i tweak my fan too
to what do I change it
But you can undervolt too
stock sucks for mining
The fan curve in the settings
undervolting is a bit of a pain tbh with afterburner
no voltage offset
but curve
what's weird is that they never got this hot in my benchmarks
benchmarks sometimes aren't as hard as some games
today was a hot day
pc got loud lol
but it was only the whole afternoon to evening
fan curve is aggressive at higher temps for that
so temps aren't an issue
Mine is 30% 0-30c then diagonal line up to 100% at 70c
i probably should do that too
i kept whole thing at a curve
temp is a bit high for my liking at hot days
but then again doing that could turn it into an annoying ramp of the fan lmao
I never see above like 60c ish but tbf I've low ambient
But i have my pc mining all day when not gaming so i feel that balances out the low ambient
my ambient in the days could go up to 40c some days

yeah
It's like 16c here
Was like 29c a few weeks ago and i was like covered in sweat 24/7 xD
29c would be a bit warm for me
and decent lel
especially for the rig
but 25c or lower would be great
that's when i turn on the ac at hot nights
I actually had to stop mining it was so warm
gpu would run lower than 70c even
We don't have ac in homes here ya see
in hot days for me gpu goes to 77c

my rig is an oem asus so
i mean the case has airflow but it has only single case fan
that is acting as rear exhaust
I see
Nice lol
Or even swap case who knows
If gpu market became good
I wanna get rid of this case
Why bother if just mining?
This, it just gives an insight into how the GPU performs underload
idk if money is good by then i'll swap it into a rack
Why bother it's just 1 gpu right?
Foxy ez pz free rack
Turn pc onto back panel
lmao
Spend money on something for yourself lol
well if i eventually make the money back
the 1660s will be listed
or even trade for a better gpu
4710hq+850m lappy
as i've always had for a year by now
soon two
it throttles but it has ok perf even so
like console perf? perhaps?
720-768p 30 fps or + depends on the games
Why don't you just use 1660 pc for games?
it's miner lel
can't touch it
hash rate be droppin
better not spoil myself too
I mean like if i turn off my 3070 for an hour it's only like 16c I'm loosing out on or 8c if i play and mine
well i have only 6 gigs vram too
it ate almost all of it mining already
like 5 gigs
All of the vram on the gpu is used up so same, but sometimes i forget it's still on
Keep in mind i usually play low even tho I've a 3070
But still
Same fps in overwatch anyway
Yup
Keep in mind I'm fairly cpu bound in overwatch with an r5 3600 but ye
Still better than r9 380 4gb i had

Anyone know how to turn off the cpu fan error in rog bios
I’ve looked for a while and can’t find it
Is there a fancy name or something?
Do you have a fan plugged into the cpu fan header?
If so it probably needs to be replaced because the rpm is too low to pass the check
If you're sure it's working as intended, swap another fan onto that header
im using an aio
someone told me the notification can be disabled in bios
and yes, the specific fan i cullently have plugged into it is actually spinning faster than the other fans even though the curves are the same
You should have the fans on the radiator hooked into the cpu fan header still
Then the pump goes on the pump header
all the fans on the rad?
Whether you can disable the warning is highly dependent on your model. It's off by default on mine even.
lemme google is I can rq
There's usually a fan splitter cable that you can connect all the fans to that comes with the aio
this one came with a whole hub, i have all my fans and rgb plugged into it
i took out a specific fan though to plug into the header just to make the warning go away but it didnt work
Could be a faulty header then honestly
Try a different fan first, but odds are you won't be able to disable the warning
ok then
I might be able to
rog forums say it should be possible
thanks for the help!
I don't know where asus has the setting but msi has it under the system monitor where you set the fan curves and warning temps
I found it
you have to search it up in the bios search thing
for some reason it wasnt in the fan control area, but whatever
Cool
in the fan curve section, set detection to disabled/ignore
found it, wasn't in the fan curve section. Thank for the response though!
Dumb question, i ordered all the parts for a build and it's waiting for the 3080ti to come in stock at my store so until that is ready everything's been sitting in the warehouse. For cpu i picked a 5900x, and I'm wondering if i should put a hold on the order and wait until alder lake since it's so close? Are there really big expectations as far as gaming performance to warrant waiting for those benchmarks first? I can just switch the CPU/Mobo out then
Am in Europe btw
I'm not sure on the performance difference
But the first gen of ddr4 was buggy, so im expecting similar from ddr5
I mean I'll just keep the current ram i have i think. The new stuff will be quite expensive i assume
Well it depends on what mobo you get then, most likely only some of them will support both
Oh shoot so they're not ddr4 compatible?
Maybe i should just stick with the 5900x, since i just read that this year will only see the really expensive high end motherboards released, and also i don't really want to pay the early adopters tax with buggy overpriced ddr5 :/ i just wanna play games ya kno
Some of the new gen boards will support DDR4, the processors themselves support both DDR4 and DDR5
I have to say though, based on leaks intel 12th gen is looking really nice on 10nm
Maybe they'll drop their BS excuse for only having an 8 core as the top of the line chip
But I'd like to have my build by the end of this year and i read that only lower end mobos will support ddr4, and those come out next year
Not like the current gen stuff is bad, they still easily keep up with modern GPUs
A 5600X is enough CPU for the 3090
Yeah. The games I'll be playing will probably have a gpu bottleneck anyway
This is just the first time i found out that boards will be mostly ddr5 exclusive and you can't just put either or in there. My ignorance. And i don't see how it will be worth the price hike
That's just how the memory gen changes work really, if there's any overlap at all it's small. First gen DDR5 is a little better than a good 4400c19 kit of DDR4, and the new manufacturing stuff needed to make it on top is where the price increase comes from.
New process, more bad units. More bad units, higher price to compensate for losses.
Okay. I just assumed it was like pci4 motherboards where you could put in older processors and stuff and it would still work just not take full advantage of the new technology.
if i had several more months to wait out the growing pains of ddr5 and had an extra $500 in my budget it probably wouldn't be a problem. Anyway, maybe I'll just stick with the 5900x. thanks for the help
PCI spec is designed to be backwards compatible, much like USB. CPU and RAM sockets are not, they're physically different and older stuff just won't fit
Hello, this is a long shot, but does anyone have any information as to when the I5 11400 or I5 11500 will be in stock, can't seem to find it anywhere, sorry if I'm asking in the wrong place.
tfw cpu popular
@pastel dock if you don't already have a ram and motherboard a decent alternative atm for a cpu with integrated graphics is the 5600g
They in stock?
ah hmm
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/qtCkp2 igpu build i put together for someone other day
ye
well i wish pcpp would be better for thailand lmao
it uses price from wegg, not accounting shipping costs
Oof
Ahh
rather buy local and get warranty
I could possibly order from wegg uk but brexit means possibly import charges etc
so apparently they didn't replace the gpu for my rma
eh idc anyway
i still can see the dust lmao
It's complicated damm Brexit
so i know it's the same
Lol
returned to usual oc
Why would they bother fixing working gpu sure lol
Also gpus aint in stock exactly lol
Least rma was free, they didn't notice any damages I did
kek
they just took it as "oh it's dead, replace it"
what a relief
i'll be much more careful and confident later once i have to pull gpu out again
that is probably a year or more
i'll just merely dust and blow on it
well i wish i could just pull mobo out with gpu in the slot
but the gpu blocks a screw
iirc
it doesn't really block it much
just the shroud blocks it a bit
meh i'll take gpu out when i need to, not havin confidence
Knowing oems you lucky they didn't manage to screw the gpu into the case behind the motherboard xD
lmfao
the design is so standard thank god
but the pcie bracket still annoys me
how that there's metal bits stickin out
leaving basically no wiggle room to pull out safely
Rip
can someone help me set my ram speed to what its supposed to be
What ram, mobo and cpu do you have?
corsair vengeance ddr4 3200 mhz, msi b450 tomahawk max, ryzen 7 2700x
mhm
you could go in memory settings, then xmp i think
choose profile with the speed you have on the ram
i tried that but when i choose the profile and restart the bios it still bumps down to 2133
You gotta save the changes
i did
honestly im kinda stuck, should normally work but it doesn't
Fighting my demons rn
@steep patrol where are you checking what memory frequency is?
The top of bios, also in task manager
Ive tried both profiles and manually setting it, none of them worked
Hold on ill send u pics
@steep patrol so ehh you're just enabling xmp and that's it?
If so I'd probs try update the bios
ive tried both xmp profiles as well as disabling it and manually setting it, neither worked

Hey guys I'm replacing my cpu cooler and while removing the thermal paste I took the cpu out of its socket and found that there are a couple of really bent pins in the corner of it. I've been trying different methods to straighten them out, but none of them seem to work. The processor seemed to work fine when it was in the system before with these bent pins, so should I just leave them be?
Jesus what CPU is it
1600
I've sort of bent one of them back using a sewing needle
Ok I think one of them is pretty good but I still got 2 more
I already have a b560m pro4 motherboard + 450w psu, im thinking of getting of just buying the i5 11600k because its the only one in stock atm. But im wondering if my psu can handle it, plus I'd have to get a rlly good cpu cooler, because i've heard it runs pretty hot
Uour psu can handle it you would just need a good cooler and a different board as the 11600k would most likely throttle the power delivery on that board
There is a chance those pins are ground or unused pins
Probably a pretty small chance though
Idk should I give it a try I mean it's not like they were connected before if they were this bent
Damn, already got the motherboard, can u recommend a budget cooler please.
For a non k i5, gammaxx 400 or id cooling se 224xt or vetroo v5, for a k cpu scythe fuma 2
alright thanks

im trying to find a compadability rating for some ram, but ive found nothing so far

and yeah ive done that, the brand doesnt even show up
its A-tech
What speeds and what cooler?
Here’s one for all you tech Gurus out there (I’ve fixed this now)
I turned my PC on - no audio. At all. Audio service was running, speakers plugged in (windows said there was audio outputting) and all audio devices were working. No audio at all.
Fixed on reboot.
What broke?
Ohh if you already have ram, you want to get the exact same kit that you already have
Drp4 leaves 40mm under fan under standard conditions
What case do you have
Most cases will have enough leeway to let you move the fan up
Probs weird driver issue
@naive pendant onboard or using external amp/dac?
Onboard audio
Drivers
Ballistix should work then
Still no audio
Onboard audio always has some issue, easy to pin the blame on it :p
Yeah true
I’m also using it in 5.1 audio mode
So AUX in and Mic in are Center/Sub out and Rear Left/Rear Right
But mixing dies :/
Idk where you're finding 32gb of 3600cl16 from corsair
Ballistix 3600c16 2x16gb :p
For that price
3600c18
But eh
Would like ballistix still

Howdy everyone. I need help diagnosing a problem I've been having the last couple of days that is brand new. As I am using my pc (the first two times were in a game) the RGB lighting on my Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro ram goes static. The lighting on my keyboard and fans which are also corsair, continue to move like normal. When this happens, my pc freezes up until I hold the power button to shut it off and turn it back on. I really need to figure out what this problem is because this is scaring me. I built this pc around 2 months ago and it did it twice yesterday in a game and once today just on discord and youtube.
Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this or maybe find a fix to the problem?
ping me if you have an answer

As you're having freezes, try starting with this
General fix for random windows problems
From an admin command prompt or powershell, run:
sfc /scannow
If that doesn't work, try:
dism /online /cleanup-image /checkhealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /scanhealth
dism /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth
Then, try running sfc again.
Repeat as necessary
I have a asrock z370 pro4 motherboard inside a phanteks enthoo evolv X case. The case has a usb 3.1 gen 2 type c front IO port. My motherboard does not support this.
Is there a way that I can adapt the cable to fit one of the usb 2 header ports on board? Or is it simply not worth it?
I've seen adapters for usb c header to the usb 3.0 header but not to usb 2.0
Welp. Gues I'm SOL then
Also for CPU cleaning.
I don't have any isopropyl alcohol to clean the old paste off with.
What's my best best option for something I might have in my house? 😂
dampen a paper towel
Oh I can do that can I?
I was thinking it but wasn't certain
You can grab some rubbing alcohol in your local pharmacy for like a fiver
If you don't have any of it already
I doubt a damp paper towel would work, at least without a crap tun of scrubbing and waiting for the cpu to dry
I'm trying to avoid leaving my house today if possible 😂
Tbh I managed to kind just do it with a dry paper towel in the end.
The paste was still quite wet as I only repasted not that long ago. But I'm installing a new cooler right now sooo
Damp paper towers work fine for me
Ahh fair enough
Gotta be wary bout the water drying up properly n stuff and depending on how old the thermal paste is, it can require a good bit of elbow grease
^
and water is dangerous
gotta be careful
unless you have a bottle of distilled water around lmao
I have used dry paper towers tons of times on thermal paste and it was fine
which isn't common
I am gonna invest in some isopropyl at some point just to have around because I know ire useful stuff. Just never bothered to do it
It's clean enough for now I think, after using the dry stuff.
Maybe I'll repaste it again when I get isopropyl, just to make sure
Btw rubbing alcohol will be the same thing usually and probs a lot cheaper as you can get the boots brand of it or something if ya get me
Oh it's the same kind of percentage is it?
Ight so yesterday i had problems w the ram i had just installed, i gave up and am just running it at 2133, anyways… ever since i installed them ive been getting up to 40% packet loss while playing games, could this be from the ram or is it something else
Are you mixing kits?
And no packet loss is internet related
Ehh packet loss
but was the ram running at xmp before you got the new kit?
Just found an i7-920 in my dad's first PC build
Would post a picture here but this channel doesn't allow files
I would not buy an i7 920 for any amount of money tbh
Mb like 5$
Ohh in not for nvm lol
I'm blind
Sounds good! I'll try running those right now. I was failing to install a BIOS update as well which was bothering me. Not sure why it wouldn't work.
Can I post questions about Mobos here?
Ofc what's the q?
How do you mean it was failing to install?
I installed the software like I was supposed to. Then inside of that software I downloaded the @bios software. When trying to select which motherboard I have, mine didn't come up in the list. So then I tried downloading the update from the internet and using the software to install it...but it failed to install every time I tried that.
Ohhhh ehh avoid updating the bios threw windows just do it in the bios
What motherboard do you have and what bios version are you on?
Well the mobo is a Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro Wifi...I couldn't figure out how to do it in the bios...
And I don't remember I think it was like maybe 10 versions back and the one I just got was V61
Go into the bios and check the version
Yall have a good recommendation for laptop ram, 32gb at 3200mhz?
And it's pretty easy, there should be a section in the main menu that says ez update or something like that
Alright. One sec
https://www.newegg.com/tools/memory-finder this should be able to help you
Thanks

Should I get buffered or unbuffered?
I mean you could probs leave it at that one atm, there's only 2 more bios versions, so unless you're having issues or need to update it for a ryzen 5000 CPU I'd leave it
Unbuffered
Aye aye
Ya I have a Ryzen 5 3600 in there right now.
Buffered is for servers mainly
Thank you
This is what it shows in the BIOS Tab...I have the new bios on a flash drive in there but I'm not sure how to install it.
Unless you plan to upgrade the cpu then, or are having issues I'd leave the bios version as it is
If you want to do it, go onto the MIT tab
Should be there
I got an ASROCK B550M-ITX/AC motherboard and I am wondering how I can update its BIOS so it can run the Ryzen 5 5600G I have. Who can I go to for support?
Alright I might as well just so I feel comfortable that the mobo isn't the problem.
Ehh that motherboard doesn't have bios flashback, so if you don't have a Ryzen 1000 to 3000 cpu to update it with you'll have to just return the motherboard and get a different one with bios flashback -which i would do anyway as there's usually better boards for the price
It's quite unlikely it is but okay
Is there really any mini-ITX motherboard that DOES have BIOS Flashback?
AM4 one that is
1 sec
So in the download for the bios update...where should I put the files inside so that I can find them? I've never done this before haha
Won't AMD be able to provide me with a "loan" CPU to update the BIOS and then return it?
Ehh they could but I have no idea if they still do that
Yes this is one that has flashback https://www.newegg.com/gigabyte-b550i-aorus-pro-ax/p/N82E16813145222
i sure hope they do
Unzip the file and put it in the root directory of the usb, ie the main folder
Both linked do
Another with flashback https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-b550-i-gaming/p/N82E16813119322
They are also way better motherboards ^
Alright.
Thanks ladies and gentlemen. Sadly I'm bound by my budget and I've already bought the motherboard and shipping from USA to Saudi is very expensive so I'm just going to try to take all choices I can before Returning the motherboard or asking Newegg to update the BIOS for me.
Thank you!
You can bring the board to a local shop and have them update the bios. I know microcenter has that service.
Ohh if you're in uae i can link you a board for there
Sadly most shops in my city only own Intel CPUs and I doubt they would really help me
I would love that
I'm in Saudi tho but the shipping is gonna be less expensive
Wth pc part picker uae pcpp is gone
Ehh if you could link a few local sites i could point out a few with flashback
@vast meadow I'm failing to find it when I'm in the BIOS...I unpacked everything
Is your usb formatted as fat32?
The problem is that I don't know any local good sites
Ahh
It's just a USB. I have no clue.
How much capacity is the USB?
^
Finish Mr. Jumperstumpers issue and I'll wait after him
128 GB
Ohh there is Newegg for saudi
It still ships from the United States lol
That probably comes formatted as ntfs at that size, you'll need a program to change the format
fat32 supports large volumes, it's just Windows doesn't like to tell you that
And nowwww...is when I say no thanks! You said it was fine so I'm going to leave it for now.
16TB is the max
So I going to run those things you said to run earlier and then I will go from there.
I've been lied to
You can revert it it's only temporary but ya
Yeah it's just if the drive is larger than 32gb Windows defaults to exfat or ntfs and won't let you do fat32, but external programs for managing partitions and such will work
That's basically 1.5x the normal price on the US site
How much would shipping be from somewhere else I wonder? That may end up being the best option including international shipping
Probs qatar or uae or smth
Gotta love the very innovative names for Arabic E-commerce stores
Silicon Valley Computers
Again, very innovative
Couldn't find ANY mini-ITX motherboard in Arab-based stores
I'll try with AMD or ASROCK or Newegg's support
Sorry for bothering y'all
Yeah mb
is the Mobo tier list pinned from 2020 maintained?
I'm trying to figure out what mobo to buy and re-learning how to purchase a mobo every 4 years is starting to get to me lol
The VRMs only matter if you're getting a high power processor, like 10/11700k or higher
Last revision appears to have been almost a year ago, but should still be accurate enough except for new products

Hm, neat.
Hey, been awhile since i've been here.
Was wondering if someone can help me with some RAM shopping?
Country, amount of ram and what cpu?
U.S. Trying to find a somewhat cheap pair of 8Gb RAM, DDR3, 1333Mhz. And my cpu is a I5-2400, 3.10Ghz
Is that good?
Ah you're gonna have to do some ebay/fb marketplace shopping etc but yeah just try to match the speed of the kit you have atm
Does the "PC3 - so and so numbers" matter?
PC3 just means DDR3
PC3 = DDR3
Numbers after mean speed
PC3 12800U = DDR3 1600MHz
Alright, so do i 'need' to pay attention to that if i already know my DDR and MHz?
ECC?
Server or workstation memory
Ecc by itself doesn't really affect performance, but ecc only on jedec spec frequency and timings
Okay, so should i worry about ECC or not?
Cause i just found a good deal for two 8Gb sticks of RAM. And it's compatible with everything else, but the ECC.
Both your CPU and Motherboard has to support ECC usually
You should not be looking for ECC unless you are building a server or workstation
"Dual Channel DDR3 1333 MHz non-ECC" Is what the specs of my motherboard says.
So i take it i'll need to find a non-ecc?
Just making sure "DDR3 ECC Registered RDIMM" means it does have ECC, right?
Correct
So ECC is if you're wanting to make a server, or have a workplace computer. While non-ECC is what you'll want for stuff like gaming. Correct?
Pretty much
Welp.
Back to the shopping i go.
see pee you

yoo
is the z590 ud good?
and does the 10600k and the 10400 have a big differnce? (not including the fact that the 10600k is overclockable)
Nice name, but not so awesome at it
10600k is about 15% better, not counting overclock
would you personally get it?
It depends on what games you want to run. If you play high detail graphics games that rely on gpu more, then you can save some money on the cpu. But if you play stuff like overwatch, cs:go, etc you'll want the better cpu.
My Asus B-560 plus LGA 1200 motherboard is saying I need an adapter to plug in the front panels USB 3.0, what is this adapter?
What case? It might be talking about a USB type C port, which needs a special header or adapter
A phanteks enthoo pro
So who has the best Mobo for AM4
It needs an adapter for the blue USB 3.0 connector
Ok found where pcpp got confused.
The case has 2x usb 3.0 ports (with one header cable), but the board lists the spec for its usb header as 3.2 gen 1. It's still the same 20 pin header. It'll work.
Where on the board is this pinout? In the manual it literally says I need an adapter and there is no pinout that I can find for it
Pinouts are really hard to find in general, I'll see what I can do
Which motherboard has the best software for the most RGB customization
3.0 pinout
I have the cable put there is not a pinout on the motherboard that I can plug it into
Below the 24 pin connector

Anyone?
Thankyou, it was there
I'd get the 11600k instead of 10600k if you wanted to oc on a z590 or an i5 10400/11400 on a b560
Is the 10400/11400 not able to work on a z590 or is the b560 just a better board for performance?
If you want to OC, go for the Z590. For non-OC, GO FOR THE B560. The Z590 also tend to have more PCIe 4.0 slots available than the b560s
What if I buy the 10400 then plan on going to a 10600k or something
Could I buy the z590
Is the z590 or z490 compatible with the 10400?
Wdym
Ok thanks
No it's just to take advantage of a k chip really, you need a z board as some b560s can't handle a k chip power delivery wise, and you're paying more for an overclockable board with a cpu that doesn't let you overclock
They will work with the 10400
But waste of money
just get b560
This, if you're not going to OC, then no need for the Z590 chipset
If you plan to oc, go z590 though, z490 had tons of issues across all of the manufacturers
tho a decent z490 board is still good
stay off asrock
Idk why you'd bother going z490 for an i5 when z590 ud ac is the price it is
Ehhhh a low end z590 in most cases is still better than a decent z490
Gigabyte fixed memory topology, and upgraded vrms a notch. MSI fixed their "tabbed" traces. Asrock and Asus not sure about.
I'd personally go giga z590 ud over a asus z490-f tbh
(for a 10600k)
Giga vr vout
Asus needs maximus line for die sense
Then vlatch on only apex and extreme
Ehhh looking at the boards, asus would have a better vrm, but no die sense and no ppd availability
or z490-e or smth
but I would assume the Asus board would have better traces for mem oc
not sure on topology
It’s because I can’t find a mobo that’s in my liking and/or compatible with one or two of my parts
You in the usa?
Yeah
My fans aren’t compatible with gigabyte
Huh

Is the Asus ROG STRIX B560-A a good b560 board?
Wouldn't bother spending that much
Wouldn't spend more than 150 for a b560
Look at Asus PRIME B560-PLUS Or MSI MAG B560 TORPEDO
They don’t fit the color scheme I am going for
Prime and b560 a are literally the same colour -silver....

yo can someone help me
i have an MSI MPG x570 Gaming Pro Carbon Wifi and I was doing a BIOS Flash for my 5800x. The BIOS flash seemed to go okay but then the BIOS Flash light just stays solid red. It goes through the whole process of blinking slow and then blinking fast but then the light just stays on. Does anyone know what that means?
Turbo
Yeah
cpu
That's normal
oh ok
CPUs don't stay at a specific frequency always
i also have a 1650ti and its core clock offset is 160 mhz and vram clock offset is 500mhz is that good
also is 88c good for a cpu
and can i lower cpu perfomace
so it doesnt over heat
Modern processors are made to run up to about 90C. It'll automatically reduce the turbo speed when it needs to keep the temps down.
Every gpu overclocks differently, it's hard to say if yours is "good"
Yep
https://www.pcgamer.com/amd-views-ryzen-5000-cpu-temperatures-up-to-95c-as-typical-and-by-design/
90C for up to the 5800X, 5900X and 5950X are 95C
NEW VIDEO: Cooking with Intel 7 - Ramen Noodle Soup on a Pentium D 820 CPU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNWdB1_nGos
In this video, you'll learn how fast a CPU can get hot, how hot it can get, and how quick it'll die out without a heatsink, as I fry me a little snack on it. The CPU is an Intel Celeron 1.8GHz Willamette CPU. NO, it is NOT an A...
cpus aren't water btw, 100c can even be ok with some cpus
just some
not all cause 100c is point they tend to shut down
90-95c is range of throttling
well unless it's ryzen 5000
I know they aren't water, but it seems painfully hot.
I guess I used the wrong word there.
mhm, just wanted to add
right
Yeah even the 5600x gets insanely hot. Sips’s 5600x was hitting 90C under OC im pretty sure
And that was under a 360 aio
5800x hottest chip because more cores, and they run very inefficiently
