Socket 1150? Open box will be hard to find for something that old
The founders edition 3080 is 285mm, the longest I see are 337mm, so you'll be fine
are refurbished good
I find refurbished to be better quality than new in a lot of cases, since they go through more testing
They're usually good enough, but if they are too loud you can change them
And for the little singular fan slot to the top left of the case on almost every case, will a normal fan work fine?
I assume so
I have 3 Corsair 120 mms which also suck but may be better then the stock fans
i hope i find one in the us
if it says supports 4th gen since i have a 3rd gen on newegg @grizzled bloom
So you have a 3000 series processor? That's Socket 1155 not 1150
That's for 8000 series chips right?
Socket 1151
@fading mauve Best I could find, supports 2000/3000 series CPUs https://www.ebay.com/itm/283628198974
I thought you guys ship in the us but from China
Third party marketplace
Newegg has 3rd party too
H81 is 4000 series btw
Didn't you say you had a 3rd gen processor though?
yeah
A 3000 series processor will not fit that socket
which one will i need
oh i need 1150
So you have a 4000 series processor, 4th gen?
You need a board with one of these chipsets
(With the ships from USA filter) https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?d=1155+motherboard&N=4814 4016 100007627 600093976 601361688 1100858365&Order=1&isdeptsrh=1
should their be a sticker on the dell
your right
and i found a open box with the 1155 socket
Fall
thx for the correction
the open box for $59 is the right one it matches
recommended aio for 5600x?
Arctic freezer ii, ek aio, lian li galahad
thanks
Np
the chinese motherboard it’s a lga 1155 @grizzled bloom will it do the same
whats a good speed I can statically overclock a i9 10850k
I have an asus prime-a and my aio is arctic liquid freezer II 360mm
-a speed I can just have it at most of the time so nothing insane/wanna stay on the safer side but definitely oc a bit
try 4.6-4.8 and see if it crashes doing prime 95 and stress test it. Also check temps
after try 4.9 and so on

This is what I came or
For* that ram is not on the same wavelength as the OLOy Blade ram
Reason: Bad word usage
Bro even this one
That's worse
3600 c16 16 16 > 4000 c16 19 19
You can find better binned Samsung B die sticks than the OLOy Blade kit but it's not easy
loose tRCD timings
That's definitely not bdie
That's some Rev E
That's... not how that works. The g.skill kits he linked are b-die guaranteed so they can overclock to straight 14-14-14.
The OLOy Blade kit
By default xmp is 3600 14 14 14 1.4v
You don't have to do anything
The kit he linked was not that
Ok but try doing those timings at 4000
You can
Because it's B die
Some premium B die
The 4000 c16 19 is an inferior kit
It's some really good Rev E but the loose 19 tRCD timing gives it away as Rev E
oc is oc, it's all wack
reve does do pretty well with just upping freq though (dunno context, but ye)
I wouldn't be saying anything if they said to not buy some expensive ram and argue it doesn't make much of a difference
They argued buying the more expensive ram was the better buy
That's the issue
@stable dirge side note, 4000 16-19-19 at 1.4v looks to be a known b die bin from fitz's b die sheet
4000 c16 19 19 is weak
Reason: Bad word usage
meh, still good imo, 3200c14 is what I consider decent
He found for 150 bucks 3600 c14 flat
It should be able to tighten tRCD fairly easily
That's pog
for 2x16?
2x8
yea the kit linked was 2x16
I know
It's also bad b die
Or Rev E
And it costs more
That's 20 dollars more than buying 2 kits of the OLOy ram
4x8
should be less, reve or decent b die still p great imo
and also, I would prefer 2x16 over 4x8 for upgradability reasons
If we had a 1 to 10 range of bad and good B die
Both options are valid options
The OLOy kit is 8 out of 10
Very very hard to beat that
They exist but it will cost a lot to beat it
4000 14 15 15 is good
He linked 4000 16 19 19
If it was 14 15 15 I'd rate it
I'd be like bravo
👍
reve usually doesn't tighten too well
B-die can usually get tRCD down to 140-150ns
depends still tbh, if you want upgradability or not
I mean...
For what he needs 32 is plenty
The way I personally see it
If you need 64
You need 128
Type thing
Who really knows how software develops over the next few years
In a situation where you can make use of that ram you probably need more than just 64
I told him about that kit in another server
He asked people here about the recommendation
And they gave him a bad one
And the confidence in that recommendation
😫
Like I said it's not that they recommended him something ELSE. It was they recommended him something more expensive and worse
At the same time
Well, I personally don't believe it's just worse, but they're close nuff
OK so
They're not that cloae
I have a B die spreadsheet that explains it rather well
I am probably already on that spreadsheet right now lel
I'm looking at the 1.55v predictions for the two xmp's
You can see the ns ratio for voltage
3600 c14 1.4v is just pog
The 4000 c14 15 at 1.5v from OLOy as well is a smidge better
I don't have the link to the oloy kit, is it 1.4v or 1.45v?
1.4
interesting
3600 c14 14 14 1.4
thought it was the EOL xmp
lol
hey, I thought of an excuse, on daisy chain boards, theoretically, 2x16 would OC better than 4x8 xD
But yea, I see your point, I also thought the oloy kit was a different xmp
Yeah but it will also be held back anyways because it's a 16GB kit
Not that matters much either
I mean, it'll still be 2 ranks per channel either way
oh and another thing, oloy kit clearance is wacky
Works better for me
The warhawks are
For sure
The blades aren't that big
Well, width too
there's a fair few cases where top mount aio can be blocked by ram that's too wide
Understandable
But Milk is going for 360mm aio front
mainly an issue with like vengeance rgb being just bad, but anyways
So this wouldn't matter but yes something to take into consideration
I'm just giving excuses for places where the trident kit would be better, but yea, oloy kit was probably better for the guy who asked for a suggestion
Mindblown that the Liquid Freezer II is 360mm is only 125 dollars
thought it was 120 for a while
Oh well, freezer ii is just too good
They were like a mystery product
Now since they're readily available
I might have to cop
They were readily avaliable for like few months iirc
Probably
But I was in a coma
then they just disappeared for while
I had no clue
Well, the past doesn't matter too much anyways
Bro the LFII makes every other aio look stupid for even attempting to exist
😆
A more expensive product that's worse....
Let's goo
Arctic is costing everyone else's bottom line
Love to see it
I basically recognize it the one aio I can suggest for builds xD
other than dummies that want rgb
I mean
146$ on amazon for 360mm
ek-aio is what, 155$, it's close
galahad is also like 150$
I need to pay more attention to those things
I can't post pictures
Need to be lvl 3
But it's worse
Not worth spending more money for worse
looks
Even if it's slightly worse
sadly
image posting time
delid?
Yet my air cooler won't prevent it from hitting 100c instantly on small ffts
Yh
p95 too op
My 9900k can do 5.2ghz
I just need a cooler good enough
It does 5.1 all core at 1.312v
I want 5.2 more so I can set the cache ratio higher

YESS I get emojis
i5-4690k overclocked to 4.8ghz go brr
I need to get this thing validated before it can’t do it anymore
Will 5600x bottleneck a 3080ti?
no
Depends on resolution
Tbh don't worry bout bottlenecks as long as your system is balanced, there's always going to be some bottle neck in your system. I'd recommend a 5800x or 5900x though if you want to play 1080p(or in general imo)
Even the software could be a bottleneck
Yep if it's not hardware, the game engine etc can bottleneck
if hes playing at 720p he might be bottlenecked significantly anough to notice, but I doubt anyone would notice the difference between a 5600x and 5900x frame rates when paired with a 3080ti, even at 1080p.
you talking about hundreds of fps
But who would be playing 720p with a 3080
exactly
Ehhhhhhhh that really depends on the types of games you wanna play
If you ain’t playing 1440-4K with a 3080ti you’re doing it wrong
If you wanna play competitive shooters you ain't gonna play 1440
Cuz fps is very important in games like that and mb they can't find a 3080 or 3070
Hey Pato i tried finding the msi b7fa‑IE 35 it was a chinese version i will be on my own
Sorry what lol?
nothing i accidentally bought a chinese motherboard not a us region board
Oof
yeah Msi told me to buy stuff ONLY From The Us region filing a dispute i had a msi before ik hp uses standard atx motherboard but dell makes their own my mom asked me if it’s working like no dell has Proprietary front connectors
I see
i have the front panel connectors for the standard case not the right ports i am better off with a standard motherboard
Level up your personal computer with this AMD Ryzen 9 5950X 16-core desktop processor. It runs at a speedy 3.4GHz to handle resource-intensive applications without slowing down. This CPU is ideal for both gaming and creative work thanks to its 64GB of L3 cache and 8GB of L2 cache that are available whenever required for multi-tasking and 3D mode...
My other Canadian friends, 5950x at BB in stock
That's a bit steep
That's MSRP
its $1099 on newegg canada
So an extra $50
$549 NewEgg US, a couple of shuffles ago 😉
Well yeah but you're not comparing the same currency or region lol different tax rates etc
Also you're thinking for 5900x
5950x msrp is 800 usd
I am in between should I get a 5800x for 370 or a 5600x for 280 I am going to mostly be gaming
Would a strix b550-f handle a 5900x alright?
I'd go 5800x if it fits your budget
If you already have yeah, it just needs a bios update but i wouldn't bother buying that board it's not worth the price
what is a good AIO for the 5800x
arctic freezer II
ek aio
lian li galahad
is 240 mm ok?
I would go 280
What cpu?
3700x
No wonder
5800x outputs quite a lot more heat
Zen 3 overall heats a lot more than zen 2
I'd of gotten the 280 if the lancool 2 would let me top mount a 280 :/
Front mount is also a thing mate
240mms generally have quite low fluid content
It also doesn’t help that the radiator is only 288 cm^2 of area
If I were to front mount it then I'd have an area with no psu airflow and an open space because it's made for a 360mm or 3 120s
Ideally 280s would be best for dealing with heat soak and general dissipation
360s and 420s are fine on custom pumps
But your run of the mill Asetek or CoolIt OEM will struggle
High flow rate 280 often beats lower flow rate 360
In more ways than one
It's an arctic freezer 2
How can i tell if a motherboard is out of the us region
what about a AIO for a 10900k?
Freezer II 360mm
Thanks. But my case don't support 360s I have a Corsair C70
What case
Corsair C70
Maybe upgrade the case tbh
Saw ur edit
dont buy a 10900k rn, basically a 10850k btw
I already brought it. Got a decent deal. 435 for it
how is it a 10850k?
10900ks will fairly regularly do 5.2 all core, 10850k you'll be lucky if it can do 5.0
well its stock clocked 100mhz lower but for the price diff of like 100$ its not worth it
ahh, what cooler do you have atm?
your case says it fits a 280mm so that would do fine
I have an air cooler a cooler master X6 Elite. I have a corsair H105 new. But I don't have all the parts for the new PC. Just MOBO and CPU
ahh i see
if its still in the return window i would swap for arctic 280 but if not ohh well
ya the H105 return time is long gone.
I could try using it But ya. I just get a 280 since the 10900k runs hot
Ehhhh it should be fine, you could always sell it on ebay if you wanna upgrade it or something
true @pato
i can’t wait until it comes so i can send it back for a us region
"insert wise quote"
I get called plato, I've been called pako once or twice potakov(really), ppl really just have trouble with typing pato(kav)
You are patoto
like a potato
but pato
🥔
Any idea why my DDR4-4000 RAM has to be underclocked to 3800 MHz to POST reliably?
Because your AMD CPU FCLK can't handle 2000 mhz
2000 mhz FCLK = 4000 mhz RAM
1900 FCLK = 3800 mhz RAM
Is there a way I can see how high a frequency my FCLK can handle without toying around with it for hours?
My 3700x seems to randomly get hotter at like 1 or 2% load
Not really, need to test it. Getting 2000 FCLK on 5000 series is more rare than AMD let on so if it were me, I'd leave it at 3800 and tighten up the timings as much as possible.
might need to bump up SOC voltage and tweak a few other things to get to 2000
what is the difference?
3200 vs 3600
Any advice on tightening timings?
I've got a 4x8GB 15-16-16-35(36?) kit
Try 14-16-16-32 for the moment, ie keep the other timings the same then tighten from there
I'd guess the last number is 32 because it's usually 2x second number
It's not
It's 15-16-16-36
the tRAS being tCL+tRCD isn't a solid rule, it's just what it may follow
Hey Pato are there msi that don’t come from China so i don’t end up with a chinese import
what
They're looking for a MB for an intel 3rd or 4th gen. Most are out of production and will be second hand. New ones will be weird chinese reproduction things.
Z77 I think is what's needed
Basically all MSI factories are either in China or Taiwan so...
what cpu
3470
Well, if it's from MSI, I wouldn't worry too much about it, if it's a 'reproduction' of an older board
not just some random dude in a garage that soldered a chipset onto a random board
wacky
This one is a chinese import i called msi up they don’t have this one in the system
yeah i got a non Proprietary case and getting a motherboard
I mean the board format and power are standardized
It's the drivers and other support that will be wacky
the front connector for dell are proprietary
That board looks all standard
It's just the drivers and software support that might be odd
Especially if MSI doesn't know that board exists
should be fine if you let windows pull drivers in device manager right
Maybe? Windows relies on HWID
SO if the HWID is odd or wonky it won't know what to do
hmm
Sorry, Device_ID
HWID is another thing
I'd honestly just find a legit used board on Ebay
or do what I did and find a whole computer for about the same price with a legit board in it
My mobo is finally coming back from RMA
checked reddit rq, only found this for 150$ that ships
https://www.reddit.com/r/hardwareswap/comments/nqzixt/usafl_h_asus_tuf_sabertooth_z77_mobo_i73770k/
they don’t have it the real ones don’t end in IE
nothing on homelabsales
what
Ahh okay thanks
is asus a good board
depends on the model
what constitutes as haswell refresh and what constitutes as non refresh lol
huh
In this Intel CPU buyer's guide, we'll look at whether the Haswell Refresh CPUs are worth buying for gamers given their unique positioning between HW, Devil's Canyon, and Broadwell. -
gaming
no
probably a spelling error
and intel 3rd gen core series is 1155
look at q77 boards
probably the most well rounded chipset to choose for 1155
i don’t want a chinese import
there's some good h67 computers on ebay from a seller I bought the pc I'm using rn from
can i get this one
no
ugh
wrong socket
1155, DDR3 is what you need
LGA 1155, also called Socket H2, is a socket used for Intel microprocessors based on Sandy Bridge (2nd-Gen, 32nm, 2k-series) and Ivy Bridge (3rd-Gen, 22nm, 3k-series) microarchitectures.
It is the successor of LGA 1156 (known as Socket H) and was itself succeeded by LGA 1150 in 2013. Along with selected variations of LGA 2011 socket, it was the ...
h61 chipset doesn't have many features compared to the rest
has this mobo in it
made by intel
rear io
rather basic but you can ask down the price a little
I have a case
https://pcpartpicker.com/product/HBPzK8/seasonic-350-w-80-bronze-certified-atx-power-supply-ssp-350st should come with this power supply or similar, a 2tb hard drive, and 4gb ram
yea just transfer the parts into your case
that's that option
yeah i have a dell Proprietary board which special front panel connectors
I would probably go for a q77 or b75 board for more features
look at the tables in this page
shows all the chipsets for 1155 and their features
it’s the chipset
https://www.ebay.com/itm/133673964104?hash=item1f1f96d248:g:4ZkAAOSwCl5gNaPE this one has a 3470, with the same psu and hard drive combo probably, and 8gb ram, on a b75 board
more money ofc
more ram, has usb3.0, more drive ports
i think 1155 is office cpu like anti theft lock
my mom had a foxconn from hp it went bad
Foxconn makes boards for msi and others lol
I have some foxconn fans
what die
kit tells nothing
pretty useless info
my old msi board
MSI makes HP boards?
they use too my last one was a compaq with intel duel core
now they make their own
one that has never manufactured a motherboard ever
oh apple
i thought you can’t build apple
you can fake apple into believing you have a mac tho
software trickery
allows me to run macos natively on my ryzen PC
oh is a z77a-g45 good
are used ones good
it’s a tower
@split copper i found one local free 4 day delivery
Anyone know any 3200 MHz DDR4 kits that don't use XMP?
What's the issue with XMP?
Does anyone know why my mobo won’t use my lab cable as wifi
Lab cable?
LAN?
LAN*** my bad lmao
Because lan is Ethernet
It's not WiFi
Do you have a WiFi card or ethernet drivers? What's the base issue here, no internet?
Yes no internet.
Brand new build?
Yes
Mmmmm, ethernet cable from your PC to the modem or router?
Yes.
Go to Device Manager, check Network Adapters
Is there a Realtek or Intel GBE adapter in there?
Check Dm
I'm sorry, I don't know who that is but I'm trying to help. Need to see if there are Ethernet drivers installed. If not, you'll need to install them via USB drive from another PC or connecting your phone via USB and sharing the internet connection
Tell me what motherboard it is and I can get you a download link for the drivers
Or if there is an issue showing in Device Manager, tell the code and I can see how to fix it
Give me like 2 min we’re getting that info
Well RIP my wife's retro gaming PC. I went to replace the case and found out every single capacitor by the CPU popped. Looks like goodwill hunting for a new, salvageable board.
intel ethernet best
not a great wifi card inbuilt in my mobo tho
doesnt matter to me anyway since it supports 433 and I have 200mbps plan
Is it worth upgrading from r7 3800x to the 5800x/r9 5900x?
For doing what
mmm just gaming, programming, school atm
Reason: Bad word usage
Reason: Too many infractions
Reason: Bad word usage
Reason: Too many infractions
so i found out why i thought my 3600 went bad with my 3060 ti
i lost the lottery, it performs on par with smthn around a 7700
Don't think you can loose that hard, what ram and cooler do you have? Also have you tried updating the bios
32gb 3000mhz and basically a stock cooler
i havent updated bios
tbh i have no clue how lmao, this is my first real pc and i only just started learning about them back in november
Yep
imagine not having access to #special-role-channel
couldnt be me
couldnt be me @vernal cosmos
Could be the cooler, check your temps under load, the ram is kinda slow as well but should be fine
sure kid
Just making sure lol
yeah the ram is 2x8 3000mhz and 2x8 3600mhz, i got the 3600 for 40$ and figured id want more ram at a lower speed, and the temps stay around 80 max and under full load norm sit around 75
its a b550 board so maybe i should update the bious
Mb, also mixing ram could definitely be an issue sometimes it just doesn't work
I'd recommend just trying the 3600 in slots a2 and b2
This
Mixing ram speeds can lead to oof
Kind of a waste of the 3600 speed ram and can also lead to booting issues. If it's working fine then keep going
Nah puts strain on memory controller
BUt the boost you'll get from 3600 would be nice
Damn
Ye
Alr thanks for the help
AMD benefits quite a bit from faster ram
So does newer Intel
I'd imagine the reason for your low performance is the ram speed TBH
This is what I'm talking about
Gigabyte X570 AORUS MASTER ATX or ASUS TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI)
i have the TUF atm and thinking of upgrading to the Aorus one since i see a deal on it
Why upgrade? You won't gain anything other than looks
What’s the chance of ASUS just not fixing my board if it’s bios bricked?
whats a better motherboard guys... x570 pro or plus?
assuming asus, x570-pro
yep
What thermal paste do you recommend
kryonaut if you wnat the good stuff and dont mind paying for it
MX-4 is still great otherwise
i found this one if i want to run gta V i will have to use my cpu
free shipping and in my state
that’s what i need
@vernal cosmos i only have a dell mobo
what do you want me to do not have a pc
I redid my benchmarks, idk what happened but its performing as expected now
About 9600k performance level
what benchmark?
Userbenchmark but I know how bad it is so I'm downloading a proper one
Is novabench a good one?
Cinebench for CPU
Nova bench put my system in the 97th percentile overall
3D mark timespy for GPU
Alr thanks just started it
So even if it's performing normally currently, would it still benefit from the higher ram speed?
Oh yeah
If I'm understanding it right it's currently putting it at i9-9980h for multi core, but the test is still going
Try have a look at cheaper ones that's a brand new mobo price
Idk how this compares, it got 9102 points in multi core
Which is just above 9880h multi core
Cinbench which version?
Yeah
We compared 6-core Intel Core i7 8700K (3.7 GHz) against AMD Ryzen 5 3600 (3.6 GHz) in games and benchmarks. Find out which CPU has better...
Well, maybe not spank but faster
That's what I was looking at
Yeah, you're losing a bit with the slow ram speeds
Difference in games could be as much as 10%
Do you think its worth the downgrade in ram size?
Oh thay score is just multi core
I'm running the single core right now
I do, 16 GB should be more than enough
Yeah most people don't even use 16gb
I use about 90% of 16 (im too lazy to do the math) with disc and streaming while gaming
I found the 3600mhz with my current mobo for 80$ on reddit so figured why not lmao
since my cpu fan on my dell i can’t get it off the plug
I wouldn't worry a huge amount then, you could always sell the 3000 for 50$ish then buy the same kit of 3600 if you need 32gb
is amd cheaper there Intel
What cpu again
Ehhhh not a huge amount usually and board will be like 10$ cheaper or so
What cpu is it again?
Intel core i 5 3rd gen 3470
i can swap cpu if i want
i will just have to apply thermal paste
Ohh thats way too much for an old board
can you help me find one in the us so i don’t get a china import
I am wrecked atm lol so aint up to going searching lol
1221 for single core
Wow which is just below a 7700k
That's really bad
Welp
Time to take the ram out ig
Bruh the gpu is just barely in the way
😐
That's way better pricing
is asus the same as msi
alr i got the ram out, gonna run benchmarks now
Btw, since I took out the 3000mhz kit it automatically goes to 3600 right?
And so far it's now below the old multi core performance, but its got 2 min left
Gotta set XMP/DOCP again
I have no clue how to do that, im guessing in the bios?
Yeah the multi core just finished below the 9880h
ok is this a gaming board
I don't think there were gaming boards back then and idk much about stuff that old
Save and Exit now
i rather go with msi
The first, skip one, third
Yeah that's not right
From the CPU left to right
empty, ram, empty, ram
Probs why XMP isn't sticking
sigh
IKR
I have about 17 cables in my pc
If it ain't one thing it's another XD
@elfin warren there's nowhere to change it under main, would I just change it under oc tweaker? It lets me change ram speed there
Steel legend or Phantom?
Steel legend I believe
One sec
It's an asrock b550m
Idk anything other than that
OC Tweaker
Itd take me a while to find the exact model
Load XMP Setting
save and exit
Ty let's see if it works
If this doesn't idk what it is
But ig this is why it was performing THAT bad, its been on 2666
Probs ya
But this makes sense why I thought the 3600 was a bad pairing with the 3060 ti
It's been running that slow lmao
Faster ram will def help XD
My monitor still isn't turning back on
The pc is on tho
Ty for all the help btw vintage
Wouldn't of figured this out myself
Looks like it
:/
Does it just take time or do I have to do smthn
BIOS fully up to date?
EDid you update the BIOS?
A pc shop put it together (im stupid with cable managing) so they shouldve
Eh it's worth a double check
Can't really check rn though lmao
Is it going to fix itself or should I force power off?
Force power off.
:/
Might need a BIOS update if it's out of date, those often have ram compatibility too
Use the reset button
Or press and hold power button for 10 seconds
hard power off
use PSU switch
Reset button didn't work
Oh wait
Start up screen came up
Does that mean reset button worked or bios decided to start working
Hell yeah memory is at 3600 in task manager
Idk what happened but I'm not gonna complain
Run with it!!
Time to benchmark if
Ig*
Oh wow I can see that it's doing better, with how fast it's rendering the cubes
It currently shows it performing same as before in multi core '-'
-_-
If this doesn't improve ima be upsetti spaghetti
cinebench doesnt care about memory speed
for hwbot, its common to run jedec, just so you can clock the core higher
End me please
literally any other benchmark should show improvement lol
F it I used userbenchmark for an idea earlier, I guess it'll still work to show improvement
Cpu performed about 5% better if I'm remembering correctly
Welp
i def lost the silicon lottery
Stock cooler?
basically
its a coolermaster but it cools about the same
it sits at a max temp of 84 while under full load, but normally doesnt go over 78
yeah a better cooler would def help. Which cooler master is it?
Ah, brb, lemme see if I can get close
someone here told me its basically a stock
one sec lemme send a pic, i have one somewhere
OH wow

do you think itd help that much?
well i guess it would atleast give me room to overclock if nothing else
id also need thermal paste
bc im a moron and have no clue where i put mine
Yeah it would
nah, cooler comes with paste 😉
I have one on my wifes 10600K
WOrks great
Ya
Yeah i upgraded my 3600 from stock cooler to id cooling se, big temp and max perf diff
Not sure I'd trust it to 180W but for the 3600 it's great
Especially compared to that brick you have right now
yeah
Probably just could technically cool a 180w cpu lol
YW!
yeah i def need a new cpu cooler i now have a max temp of 87 with the new ram speed
??
would anyone here like to help me match my DDR options for a new MB? I'd love some advice 🙂
what board and CPU
the board specs out a bunch of speeds, some are pretty fast.
DDR4 5400(OC) / 5200(OC) / 5000(OC) / 4866(OC) / 4600(OC) / 4400(OC) / 4000(OC) / 3600(OC) / 3333(OC) / 3200 / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 (3rd Gen AMD Ryzen with Radeon Graphics processors)
DDR4 5200(OC) / 5000(OC) / 4866(OC) / 4600(OC) / 4400(OC) / 4000(OC) / 3600(OC) / 3333(OC) / 3200 / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 (3rd Gen AMD Ryzen Processors)
DDR4 5100(OC) / 5000(OC) / 4866(OC) / 4600(OC) / 4400(OC) / 4000(OC) / 3600(OC) / 3333(OC) / 3200 / 2933 / 2667 / 2400 / 2133 (AMD Ryzen 5000 series processors)
lolz.
I asked the chat rep. he said it was ok, but I specifically asked what socked that CPU was.
I don't know what the strx4 is. :/
It's going to be for an artist.
Rendering things from Maya, Blender, and video like Premiere and After Effects.
Ah, OK, so TR will really be used
Lemme find you a board but you won't like the price XD
yeah. we're watching renders go off right now and it's about 2min per frame in some cases. So we're upping the power.
Gotcha, just wanted to be sure you had an actual use case for the TR and you do
lolz. I don't like ANY of the prices.. but that's the fun part right?
Haven't spec'd he cooler yet.
I've been looking at Noctua, water blocks are ok... but I feel like a big case with the right air system can hold up.
pair it with DDR4 3600 ram
Well, you need a TR4 specific cooler due to the die size of the CPU
If you have a big enough case, I have a good cooler for it
STR4 was oof?
Recommend away Fitz
I'm trying to find that chonky new cooler that just came out for TR but can't remember what it's called
there's ice giant stuff, noctua has one, and CM has one
ice giant yeah
ice giant thermocyphon
That one
pretty sure I spelled that wrong
This one! https://www.icegiantcooling.com/
IceGiant has the most advanced CPU cooling solution for PCs. Our ProSiphon Elite technology boasts superior performance & reliability.
that's a massive cooler!
Threadripper needs massive cooling
For constant loads like OP will be doing
Any options on the MB? I have a picky request for Gigabyte.
I'd go master over the pro
designare and extreme should be fine too, just more $$$
yeah. I was looking at the designare.
Check the links Fitz posted. They recommended some boards and a newer CPU
Says the 3960x should be the same price as the 2990wx
There's a Gigabyte board in there as well
TY. I'm thinking we have a winner here.
GIGABYTE TRX40 DESIGNARE sTRX4 AMD TRX40 SATA 6Gb/s XL ATX AMD Motherboard
Yeah but you'll need a newer CPU I think?
Have I told you lately that I love you?
you'll need a 3000 series TR for the motherboard
He knows more than I do about this stuff
3970x works doesn't it?
whew. that's where we started lol.
and if you dont have ram for it yet, you'll want at least 4 sticks of 3600mhz
I like excess.
too much? two sets of 128GB
G.SKILL TridentZ RGB Series 128GB (4 x 32GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800) Intel XMP 2.0 Desktop Memory Model F4-3600C18Q-128GTZR
Capacity: 128GB (4 x 32GB)
Type: 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM
Speed: DDR4 3600 (PC4 28800)
CAS Latency: 18
Im looking into the designare, and not liking the dual intel lan
yeah, the master has a 5gbe aquantia
intel lan has a tendency to never want to load the drivers
aquantia is the better high end ethernet ports
killer lan is good for mid/low end
and do you need 256GB of ram? Could get a bit more performance going with crucial
or actually, if you get 4 packs of either of these https://www.newegg.com/p/pl?N=100007611 601203950 601275376 50001455
"It's going to be for an artist.
Rendering things from Maya, Blender, and video like Premiere and After Effects."
so you'd suggest the AORUS MASTER MB vs the designare.
That's what they're doing with it Fitz
Im suggesting the master over the designare, yes
ok, sold. Thank you.
bad news, the MB is on back order. I'll see if I can find another one.
amazon has it for $500
thank you. just found the same thing.
@limber dragon @elfin warren Thanks for the help!!
YW
Damn
why would you want 4x4gb tho
I have 2x8gb3600 and am selling my 3000mhz kit for the higher speed and figured I'd use the money from that for 2x4 3600
But ig I can't lmao
why not just buy another 2x8 3600 kit thats identical to the one you have
I'm 15 and can't get a job yet where I live
So only have the money from the 2x8 3000 mhz kit to spend right now
then save up
Yeah I guess I'm going to
rather than buying a kit you cant put into your pc anyway
Yeah
Ig I'll also try my luck at finding a kit on reddit, I found the 3600mhz kit I have for 40$ on reddit so
If you get 2x4gb you'll get the same problem afaik because it's not the same size as the other sticks iirc
Really? My laptop has two different sizes so I thought it'd be fine
And how do some pre builds have 12gb?
Can be finiky
Ah
if you put in an 8gb stick and a 4gb stick in the same system itll run in dual channel for 4+4 gb
if the total ram util goes above 8gb tho itll run in single chanel
@elfin warren so uhh I just turned my pc on for the first time since yesterday
It's doing the thing where it's taking forever to turn on
Pressing the reset button makes it turn on wtf
Well turn on properly
Make sure your front panel connectors aren't wired the wrong way then
Well the power button turns it on, but the screens stay asleep until I press the reset button and then the startup screen comes up
There are 4GB sticks that are 4333 let alone 3600
Not common
or easily obtainable
Lowkey bout to put the other ram back in and clock it back down so it doesn't take forever to turn on every time
Did you check and/or update your BIOS?
Yeah that's what im gonna do and when the new cooler comes im going to overclock the cpu
Yeah I did
WDYM by takes forever to boot?
I press the power button to turn on and the screens stay off for about 30min before it boots
And I can't turn it off or anything unless I flip the psu switch
Reset button doesn't even work
Asrock B550M what again?
