another retailer for u12s
https://www.vuugo.com/Noctua-CPU-Cooler-NH-U12S.html
another retailer for freezer 34 duo
@sage swift how does shipping time look for those?
cnps20x from dif retailer, starting to get to the expensive end but yea
https://www.mikescomputershop.com/product/10810891
FYI now I don't want to push business away from Newegg, but if someone's near a Micro Center and doesn't have a ton of cash, sometimes they have open-box coolers there for decent prices.
Noctua coolers are the best, they make black models now, but as it was stated above, seems there's a bit of a stock issue.
if you're near a MC, there's no reason to buy pc parts online
Well besides Shell Shocker specials 🙂 Can't resist those. I actually have to force myself to stay away from PC part sites becuase I bought too much. I already have a 3950x with some 7+ SSD's in it... not trying to brag at all but it's hard to control one's self when you're retired and money isn't much of an issue.
I have a real heck of a time getting out of micro center with enough hands to carry everything I bought / spend under a grand.
MC had 10900Ks for $330 for months, then raised the prices after 11th gen flop
10900k anywhere online: 450+
This is a development machine so the SSD's are definitely in use, have to keep backups in-case of drive failure, need 3 drives worth of data to index for my project (textures, models etc). But yeah they have really good prices.
I mean, MC being better than online retailers 98% of the time is kind of a given, just that their stores are few and far in-between them
If this video board blows up I won't even bother looking for one in a store, will throw the 8gb RX 480 back in, or worst-case a Radeon HD 7850 2gb or Geforce 710 2gb cards I have laying in boxes.
Yeah it would be nice if I didn't have to drive 220 miles to get to an MC.
I mean they were scalping amd for a while though. The cpus. Was disappoint.
I didn't see them crank the prices where I am, but that's entirely possible that it happened between the times I was there.
50-100 over msrp :/
I would check but I forbid myself from going to PC sites for a bit until I get my butt to the tire shop and get some new rubber for my Corolla, they're almost racing-slick smooth.
I can't look or I'll end up seeing something I must have.
I keep trying to promise myself I won't buy any more tech stuff. Already have to build a new L-shaped desk when my back is a little better and hook up the 3x 32" screens I got for 30$ a piece, so I can have a proper CAD / Modeling machine here. One screen "Will. Not. Do."
Does anyone do modeling stuff on the current new AMD video cards? I ditched my RX 480 8gb a year and a half ago for a some-what overpriced (though not by today's price) RTX 2070 8gb, and still am short on VRAM (obviously). I got off AMD GPU's due to some driver instability, but the Nvidia studio-ready ones aren't much better at all, and I can't even see the 'carriage' where you type in text boxes in Maya with Nvidia.
Nvidia outrenders the new amd cards.
The RTX is totally sweet for rendering, but the 8gb limit is NOT sweet at all, I hate to sound stuck up but 8gb is 'so yesterday' in game dev stuff.
When I pre-render a model to see how the UV's look, or run a texture through many programs including things like Substance designer, the instant RTX-fueled previews are a total boon. I entirely didn't realize when I got it how nice it would be. While I don't mind if it's a little slower, or the next card is not quite as fast; the AMD offerings have 12~16gb like the 12gb 6700 or 16gb 6800~6900xt models. Nvidia wants too much money except with the 3060 12gb.
if you're rendering, get a quadro
I'm already needing about 10.x GB (needed, not 'allocated'), so buying 12gb would be short-sighted.
K80s are pretty slow cores, but with 24gb of vram, you're pretty much set
I don't do so much rendering as just modeling itself. I was thinking about quaddro but this isn't high-dollar work I do. It's mostly modding supported by Patreon and other ways, and occasionally freelance stuff. So I mean, a Quadro at a reasonable price like the consumer line-up would be great, but current gen cards for that price don't normally exists, especially not NOW with this rubbish market situation.
You know @limber dragon you might just have a winner there, I'll have to keep an eye on prices with that.
used on ebay are around $300
I found one for 249$, considering it! I wonder what generation of chip it's got in it. It says it's a pair of GPUs on one card.
the K stands for kepler
OH okay, Thanks! I'm not well verse in Nvidia's pro-line at all. Should I even consider AMD's pro-line of cards at all or is it not worth it?
Make sure your use case can leverage the 12GB per core the k80 has
Well, I keep running out of VRAM and getting slow-down in my game world that I'm designing (it's as large as GTA V's land mass, plus a few extra square KM), the game engine doesn't actively unload models yet so it makes it painful if you go over 8gb if you don't switch to medium texture. Doing this while having modeling and other graphics programs open makes DirectX really scramble when allocating VRAM, which ends up using system RAM and going putt-putt on me.
Really thinking the 16gb Nvidia A4000 would be the best option cost VS performance.
@mild jackal yes I am aware of this. It's a twin pair of GPU's, not unlike SLI-on-a-card solutions available since at-least 2006. Not the greatest, unless you're running highly parallel tasks through compute. It's not as good for just doing a render as VRAM must mirror (to my best knowledge).
@mild jackal compute, neural networking, scientific stuff, and possibly mining (I wouldn't know) it's great, but not as much for rendering from what I'm seeing. It's best to get a single GPU core + a lot of VRAM for what I do. I wish I could double the system memory speed to compensate when I run out, but that's NOT going to happen on my current 200$ Asus Tuf Gaming X570 solution in here within reason of stability.
Is the card going into a server? K80s have a passive heat sink
You can 3d print a fan adapter though
No I don't have a server, but this is a server full-tower dual-compartment case (I got the case used for 60$, hooray!). I could crank the fans up to push air through it (and I have some old dell green ducts from pentium 4 days that would work excellent for the task), but I don't want a lot of noise here.
I would imagine the 3950x in here some could classify this as a wanna-be-server, but no it's just my modeling machine / game dev machine.
I will do my research on the A4000 and ask one of my colligues if he thinks I should get it, he's got an RTX 3090 on his machine, but he's rendering a ton of video and needs high FPS in what he does, the VRAM on that at 24gb is really nice though. Money not-withstanding it's nice, but I really don't want/need to spend 1500$+ on a GPU. I just want enough to get me by and the 16gb model should suffice, provided it's near MSRP (I won't pay a ton for it, it can wait if it absolutely must).
I would have snapped up a 6800/6800xt model from AMD but they haven't been available in these parts lately. I know it's AMD and it's not quite where Nvidia is in modeling especially compared to Quadro, but price to performance is great. The quadro's double-precision rendering can be nice to render without so much Z-fighting and whatever other perspectives you have when you render with several texture layers.
6800XT at Micro Center (asus model, rgb disco-ball light-show and all), 1299$ !!! ACK! Think I will stick to the A4000 IF and WHEN I can find one.
I would participate in the shuffle thing, but unless I know for sure I'd get one, I can't be bothered to hang around the PC hoping. Sorry, but I don't want to play games to get a card to play games / make games with.
Basically, it's not worth the fight. Personally they should have just left a queue we could register for or pay ahead partially and get contacted when it ships. Hopefully we'd get cards before cars and pigs both fly.
I mean
@long acorn shuffle does that, randomly selects a winner that can buy it, and emails you if you win.
It's Linus that's doing the thing that requires you to play a game or whatever.
I mean the whole shuffle thing is a game... I just am not game for that. Maybe I'm too old school or stubborn. However, when they become available and normal priced, I'll get a graphics card with more VRAM.
It might be a year, I'll wait if I have to, and live with medium textures just happy I can still do my work (but screenshots won't be as nice!). My road textures are so detailed you can make out the stones that make up the pavement. That's just an example.
Eh, doesn't hurt to enter whenever good deals are possible
...and who doesn't love driving through an abandoned two-floor mall in a driving simulator (beamng Drive) ?
Are the 'shuffle' cards normal priced? @hollow thorn
Well, normal in terms of post-tariff prices, not original MSRP
They tend to be either bad or meh
I saw some prices on some sites that basically my reaction was 'get stuffed', as far as I'm concerned they can burn it at that prices they want for these GPU's.
I will dust off a 486 and use that before I will over-pay for a GPU.
Do you recommend this mobo for an i5 11th gen?
ASUS Prime H510M-E LGA1200 (Intel 11th/10th Gen) Micro-ATX Motherboard
B560-PLUS?
Sure!
ASUS Prime B560-PLUS LGA1200 (Intel 11th/10th Gen) ATX Motherboard
That'll do just fine

Does the asus strix b560a have good oc? If not then what’s the best lga 1200 board for oc?
Are you going to be buying a k cpu?
And no it doesn't because on intel you need a z series board and a k cpu
Yes I’m gonna get the 10600kf
Hey all. I need a mobo that supports at least 3 - 3060s
Any suggestions? I've been researching and it's tricky to find some certainty
for mining, or do you need pcie bandwidth to them?
what’s a good mobo for a i7 10700kf and a 3060?
B560 something
You will need a z490 or z590 then
anyone know the last time that the z490 XII Hero was in stock by Newegg? The 3rd party sellers are asking almost $600 for it, that's crazy
Do you want to exteme overclock also for what cpu? If not exteme oc ing just get a different motherboard
yeah I'd like to OC the 10900k, the Formula is nice but no HDMI and the waterblocks are overkill since I only air cool, guess I'll keep waiting until they restock
z490 hero, apex, formula, extreme, aorus master, aorus extreme, unify, ace, are all more than good enough for 10900k oc
Look at z590 boards too, if you're just air cooling get a mid range z490/z590 not an extreme one tbh
Hell, z490-e, aorus elite, aorus ultra kind of boards will be more than enough too
are there any other disadvantages of using a z590 with a 10th gen CPU other than the first m.2 slot being disabled?
z590-plus and z590-a are great
that bit is only asus being dumb on b560 afaik
haven't heard that happen on z590 yet
let's see
z590-a pro, z590 torpedo, z590 tomahawk, z590 gaming carbon, z590 aorus elite, z590-a, all great VRMs
Is i7 core processor good? Like playing games or for Homeoffice?
Depends what i7
Whats the best z490/z590 motherboard under 200
z590-a pro stinky!!!!!
not enough pcie slots
smh
bad for mining = bad board
Is 8-8-8 good for ddr3?
Not sure about good ddr3 timings but it's gonna depend on what speed the ram is at
how do i do this update. i downloaded and ran the application and all it was was a bios renamer
yeah there should have been an extra file there
You want the CAP file
That goes on the thumb drive
taht's the BIOS file
yes, run the renamer first
okay i ran it
Then put file on thumb drive
okay
then put in PC and reboot to BIOS. Once there, update the BIOS and it will find the thumb drive and the file
manuallly update the bios?
by like booting into the bios?
okay cool thanks
aafter i do that will it still work with my 1700x?
or should i do it right after i install the new one?
exctract it first?
thats what i thought
run the renamer tool
What's your current one?
I don't see any reason you couldn't update now but do it right before you install your new CPU to be safe
ya imma deffinately do it befroe i do that
Good
thank you
Welcome!
cuz i cant run like anything right now whilei play games
and idk why
ive tested all the components in my pc and everything is fine except my cpu but i dont know why that would affect fps
its weird
expensive trouble shooting lol
CPU def can yes
nd u said 3800 ram?
5800x
tty
yw
So im in a weird spot with motherboards
The one im wanting has mixed reviews
it has 3 eggs on newegg and on other sites they all are about 3 stars
what mobo is it?
b550 aorus master
why?
Because it supported the bios update for ryzen 5000 series
280$ for a b550 is dumb
Do you know how many boards do that?
A lot
literally almost all b550s and x570s
Yeah I thought that
ryzen 7 5800x
yeah theres no way you are gonna need a 280$ board
1 sec
Thanks man
np
b550 master has issues with nvidia 3000 series
they messed something up with the pcie signalling, and its doesnt do gen4 properly
gigameme
hello I purchased a memory kit but a capacitor fell off one of the sticks after installation. The module still post but I’m worried about how it could affect the rest of my system. Could I talk with some one from Newegg about this?
Lol all Newegg service did was redirect me to this discord. There message was:
After reviewing your question, it looks like you might need some tech support. Sadly Newegg no longer provides that directly but we do have a discord server with tons of people who are very knowledgeable in this field.
Hmmmm
A missing cap probs won't do anything
if you're concerned about it, run something like Memtest86 to check for errors
if no errors, carry on and worry not
Ok it’s my first build so I’m in cautious state but when I get windows up I’ll try that thanks
Thanks for the answers have a nice day Vintage
You too!

Interesting. Would rather have a 5000 series Apu though
Would be good for an emulation PC. 🤔 Could put it in a classic console case or something
has anyone here had issues in the past trying to use Crucial's MOD utility
I've got an ASUS CM5671-05 PC. I've seen specs that that DDR3 PC10600 or PC10666 memory should work with this PC for a total of 16GB. That appears to be incorrect. Either the max is 8GB or the memory is slower than PC10600. Does anyone know the specs?
Max memory is 16 GB total. Speed is PC3-10600
DDR3 1333
Thanks. I'll try again with the memory that I just purchased. Memory appears to work in other PCs, but I can't get the ASUS to recognize the 4 GB DIMMs.
Does it not boot or they just don't show up?
It doesn't boot. I thought the PC would at least get past POST to get into the BIOS, but nothing.
Might have to do a CMOS reset by removing the button cell battery
unplug ffrom wall, remove battery for 2 minutes, replace battery and try booting tha tway
Thanks. I'll try that.
No dice on the memory. The 2 GB DIMMs work, but the display never comes on with the 4 GB DIMMs
What about just the 4 GB dimms and not the 2 GB ones?
Are they both the same speed and timings?
They are the same from the info that I see. I ordered 10600, but the DIMMs only have DDR3-1333 CL9-9-9-24 on the label
Are you putting the 4 GB side by side in the slots or alternating them?
That should pair them up fine then
The 2GB DIMM have PC3-10600 CL9 on the label
Yeah it should all be the same. The document I found said 16 GB max but it could be wrong
I saw the same.
Try JUST the 4 GB sticks installed and see if it will boot. If not, they or one of the pair may be defective
I was only trying the 4 GB DIMMs.
The pair is not defective. I've tried them in another PC.
I have tried quite a few different permutations. I started with the 10666 memory and then switched to the 10600 memory.
I can't find any documentation on it other than a user manual that is worthless lol
I wasn't able to find out anything about the 60-MIBAT3-A01 motherboard on the website either.
There IS a BIOS update listed on the ASUS website though. Wonder if that would help??
Do you know what version BIOS it's on right now?
I've already applied the BIOS update.
Ok
I did find out you should use the black slots first. Ram only in the blues for sure won't boot
It was in the black. the A1 and B1 slots
Are the 4 GB sticks the 10666?
After much reading and digging for what I can, the 10600 is the correct ram. It should be able to take 16 GB total. Other than that I can't really find much else. Nopthing about compatibility issues or anything. :/
I'm going to keep playing around with different combos. So far, no luck when a 4 GB DIMM is in the chassis
I've even found benchmarks with 2x4 GB sticks installed.
Is that the original ddr?
Yeah lol
$6 on ebay
Ya lol
imagine the mouse feel with cl2
Maybe in fifty years it will be considered a historical artifact and you'll be able to sell is for 10 dollars
@long acorn My new MOBO works, thanks for helping me out with that 🙂
Mobile cpu?
That's one of the top consumer mobile CPUs
Only behind the 5980HX
It contends with 3800X
In multi core, iirc
Or is it faster
All I now is 5900HS is stupid fast
does your system use more RAM when more is available? i have 64GB and right now windows and firefox are using 25GB of the 64
okay good to know thank you!
question... will an I9 10850Ka work with a Asus prime z390-A?
the i9-10850k LGA1200 if im not mistaken
damn... ok lol whats the best i9 i can throw at the z390?
Z390 is not
ok i thought so. just having to double check
9900K
so an i9-9900k would work
yep
thanks guys! i was seconds away from ordering the 10850k lol
glad you didnt haha
if you have the money for it i would go for it, but thats if you really need the performance of 10th gen i9
i suppose it wont be much of an issue.. i really dont need the little extra from it. my build is a -phanteks p500a case
love that case, the white one?
yes
z390 mobo 3060ti 32gb trident samsung 1tb m.2 samsung 1tb. ssd seagate 3tb HDD lian li 360galahad aio
i love the look so far and its been fun to build in
rm750 PSU
my dad recently got a build in thats case, 3080 and r7 5800x
ouuuuu
the case looks amazing with light blue rgb fans, really matches the white aesthetic
light blue with the white is
i dont plan to over clock it very much so i think the build will be fine with a 9th gen
I am about to order a motherboard, processor etc. for my first PC build. Could someone clarify, if the required connector cables are supplied with the boards, or do I have to find and order them separately?
i agree tbh
should come with it if its new parts
should come with the motherboard
if its new should be included.. if used its a guessing game
Thanks. I guess it should come then. I'll be ordering new parts from newegg
if new then yes, all of the required connections should be included
would check the description of the motherboard though, should give a list of whats in the box
That's it as of this moment. Mocking it all up before final build.
i plan to change the front fans to white fans and the rear to a white 140mm
thanks for the help!! ill post pics on final build day
few little things to gather before that but should hopfully be sooner then later
Looking to upgrade the Ram on my PC with a limited budget. Can't play alot of games that I would like to try. (CyberpowerPC Desktop Computer Gamer Ultra 2230 FX-4000 Series FX-4300 (3.80 GHz) 8 GB DDR3 1 TB HDD NVIDIA GeForce GTX ...). Just looking to go up 16GB or to 24GB. Thank you.
ram isnt the bottleneck here
not really gonna let you play any games you cant rn
Also not much point buying ddr3 it's expensive or you gotta buy second hand try just running stuff on low everything
720p maybe instead of 1080p
Ddr3 isn't spensive what
It's not like it's cheap but it's definitely not expensive
It's like the same price as ddr4 new lol
But i mean that's too expensive for how old it is
There's actually a ton of listings on Newegg at the 59.90 or thereabouts USD price range for 1600 16gb kits, below the 70 dollar avg by some margin
I wouldn't buy those personally but they're there
DDR3 gen hardware is still vastly ubiquitous
DDR2 not so much, so you can get it for dirt cheap
Don't think it's gonna help the 4300 tho
Nah
Yeah lol
I'd probably throw another 4gb in for 12gb total but that's it
Kinda a technical question but Isn't part of that because it doesn't need to compress things? Or does it just actually use more.
It just allocates more because you have more
Ah ok
Ubiquitous?
Still widely used
Do you click and hold or spam click for bios
Spam
Clicknhold
Can't seem to find jdec info for any given ram
?
Some DDR3 has that info in spec sheets, like Patriot Viper 3
Oh
Time to read jedec specifications and see where it applies

Well
Barring that
I'm trying to find a decent and cheap kit for an i3-10100 for a pcpp lizt
Not sure if 3000c16 or 3200c16 would be ideal
Probably fine but yea
Soo. I looked online for the difference between ddr3 and ddr4. The only thing I could find for the difference is a .3 voltage difference which could add up to 15 watt savings… is there any real difference between the two besides efficiency?
^^
Also would a 10100 on an H510 board be limited to 2666 as it would be on 400 chipsets?
shouldn't
for fun, grabbed some documents from JEDEDC
registered DDR3 dimms
registered DDR4 dimms
grabbed from 4.20.20 and 4.20.28
annex A and annex C
😳
Anyone wanna take a stab at why my Trident Z Neo RAM RGBs won't change color on only one of the cards & only partially?
(2x32)
Luckily I have an ASUS graphics card so that RGB uses ArmouryCrate. I have a coolermaster exhaust fan & 360 AIO so that uses MasterPlus. My front fans are thermaltake so they get TT RGB Plus. My SSD is XPG so that gets their awful software & I also have G.Skillz's software that is nearly identical to XPG's & a pile of garbage as well. Finally, my MSI motherboard uses the infamous Dragon Center. Oh wait, I forgot, my Corsair keyboard is supposed to use iQue but I have enough garbage on my system already
Pick a brand & stick with it on your builds, kids
I doubt it will
Crucial ballistix RGB will tho
It's low pro
what cooler is that?
The big one
In order to get dragon center to recognize my rgb ram I needed to reinstall windows
@limpid warren you know you dont need all of those softwares you can control most from the mb software
Can i keep my boot drive after upgrading my cpu and mobo? I cant find any clear info online
You can keep it but you'll have to reinstall
For context i have an i7 3770s and i will be upgrading to a r5 2400g
this is what i figured, especially going from intel to amd
Hey folks, any suggestion for best memory to upgrade a Acer A515-54?
would it boot at least, driver issues and whtnot aside
Nope
ok
Well, sometimes it can, sometimes it won't, I wouldn't risk it
I’ve got msi b550 gaming plus mobo Corsair h100i plat cpu cooler and I can’t figure out the wiring for my computer
Yoo wassup, i gotta upgrade my cpu mobo and ram. I have a tight budget of around €300. Any suggestions? I am open for secondhand products
What country?
The Netherlands
What you got atm?
I5-4460 and a rx 480
So basically nun
Can't reuse ram then
Yup
Okay I'll see what i can do
I am going to watch it rn brb
Thank you bro, that’ll be a ez cop because i would sell my old parts and get a upgrade for €200 say lesss
I'd keep the gpu tbh, something like a 10400f+mobo+ram would be a decent upgrade
can I overlock a ASUS A320M-A Pro mb?
Can you overclock a motherboard?
bruh
No
You can overclock the cpu, ram and stuff that's installed on the mob, not the mobo itself
If the chipset allows that at all
Which A320 doesn't
You can still oc the gpu at least, that doesn't depend on the mobo's oc capability at all, just depends on the gpu itself
Reason: Bad word usage
well dang he didnt know what he was talking about
Mk
For future ref
Pretty much any PCIe gpu can go in pretty much any PCIe slot
I'm sure there's gonna be issues with a PCIe 1.0 slot running a 4.0 card, especially with a 1.0 era CPU
I found a relatively cheap one on amazon, but we all know its gonna rise up in price soon
What are the top things to look for when buying RAM? I know higher mhz is better but for example, is there a difference between Corsair Trident and Corsair Vengeance line other than appearance?
Also corsair is meh and usually more expensive
Ballistix/gskill are usually the best
Sorry, the trident is g skill
What cpu and board do you have and how much ram do you want
yay
I have an i9 10900kf and asus rog strix z490-f gaming.
It came in a prebuilt ASUS ROG pc. Asus product support said it is a "modifed" version though, not the same as the retail board. I don't know exactly what that means
I was just looking at possibly getting RGB ram for it.
The ram will be the same that won't matter, get ballistix 3600cl16 ram rgb is like 110 for 16gb
Is there a difference going 4x8 or 2x16gb? Other than the obvious 2 spots left open with the 2x16gb
If your motherboard can do quad channel for ram, your performance will decrease a little if you go with two sticks over four. Going with two sticks over four is easier on the motherboards VRM's and if I remember correctly it is easier to overclock with just two rather than four.
yes but only threadripper supports quad channel anyway
Well I dunno what type of system they are running. I assume it isn't a Threadripper build but that doesn't mean I shouldn't mention it because assumptions aren't perfect 🤷♂️
True
Xeon does quad channel too, and the next gen consumer grade stuff is presumed to be quad channel also since each stick of DDR5 is dual channel alone.
I finally switched to AMD. X570 and a 5600x and I love it
well use just thought it would be more likely to be tr because if you need cores you go amd
Now they can finally put single sticks in prebuilts and have dual channel
It's a miracle
could someone help me?
https://pcpartpicker.com/list/jMDVz7 i have everything except the mobo, when i scrolled down it said the m.2 slot will be disabled without a rocket lake cpu.
i have the i7-10700f which is comet lake, is there anyway to bypass this?
or help me find a new mobo that doesnt do this
Only the top slot is disabled, the bottom one still works fine
It's still a disappointment
I would change your selection to a non-asus board if you want to use both slots
Unless the slot can be changed to pcie3.0 in bios ?
Intel also hates asrock, their VRM are garbage and power limits are bad until you get to the high end stuff
Lol f
Hello, I’m running ryzen 5 3600 + 1660 super. I have a 3200mhz cl18 Vengeance Pro Ram, is it worth upgrading to 3600mhz cl16?
Can one be a sata m.2 instead?
Ive had issues with my asrock not allowing for both slots to be used so its probably a lane thing
which motherboard?
wrong room whoops! its a asrock b450m steel legend
and it says on the tin that it wont run both, i thought that meant in tandem.
Weird, it should be able to run both, just the chipset would be in pcie gen2
Asrock might have just said no chipset lanes though
is r5 3500X good?
What are you doing with it
gaming, game dev
Should be fine. Its the baseline for many peoples machines anyway
k thx
Np
No don't buy it, it doesn't even have hyperthreading and way too expensive
An i5 10400/11400 and a b560 board would kick it's ass
Even a r5 3600 would be better
ok then
But the i5s beat the 3600
@elfin warren I'm in my bios to uodate it but I don't see wjere to do it
send a pic?
Again nvm I am a dumb dumb
Reason: Bad word usage
Daddy brain real bad
Sorry weggbot
Won't happen again
Just to be clear tho. I need bios version 4301 if I'm upgrading my motherboard to a 5800x?
okay lemme cehck
4301 yes
i5-10600K or - i5-11400 ?
11400 and b560 motherboard
Nope that is the newest version
thanks!
hey dudes, i need your opinion on this weather it be bad or good, i was thinking about upgrading my bros pc. specifically getting him a new processor, hes got like an i5 10400-f rn but I wanna upgrade him to like an i7 10700k, hes got a b560m mobo tho, would it be a bad idea doing so?
Yeah because the B series motherboards can't overclock the K series CPU's
Theyalso don't' handle the high power draw very well
so what other motherboad would you suggest getting?
gotchu, thx
Not much of a ipc improvement
he told me that he just wants the extra cores
For what?
If it's for gaming no/little improvement
editing, adobe premier, ect
Ahhh
Ahh yeah
11600 then?
10700 or 10900
gotchu, thx lads
11600 only k varient and doesn't editing benefit from more cores?
IPC too tho
But if b560 wouldn't a 11400 be better idea
Save more money
Or just get more cores
I was ordering the parts for this pc (https://pcpartpicker.com/list/FqfCQD) and ran into the problem of the cpu not being available, what would be a good replacement for it?
The igpu on intel chips helps bring down render times iirc
Yes, it can
An extra 15$ is 100% worth it for an editing rig
Cool
I can't remember what Intel calls it though, they can use the iGPU to stream as well
SSV or something like that?
Intel Quick Sync
Ya, there it is
That's cool
How much better is and ryzen 5 3600 than a i3-9100f?
A good bit, but i5 10400 or 11400 are both better and cheaper than the 3600
is intel quick sync active for youtube video decode even if browser settings have hardware acceleration set to off?
Shouldnt be
hey does anybody know a atx motherboard for intel for about 80 dollars thats isnt ugly
No, hdv b560 is barely that price and that's the cheapest good mobo for intel
Depends on chipset really
for i9 9900k
maybe a 10series? or amd? Patokav?
maybe ryzen 7 3700?
2 years old and harder to find older motherboard and they the same price as the new ones
What's your budget
I5 11400 and b560
so i'd have to turn on hardware acceleration then?
10700 if you need 8 cores
i am not sure i can bind firefox to use igpu only
k thx
i'm thinking about swapping out my 5600x + b550 for a z590 with an 11600k or 11700k
11th gen is really cheap at microcenter
if i swap to 11600k i make back $32 and gain wifi, bluetooth, and igpu

can sell 5600x + b550 for $450 and get 11600k + z590 for $418
my 5600x is bottom 10% silicon lottery
performance should be more or less the same otherwise
but wait @vast meadow i live in the netherlands we dont have a gpu crisis here so i can use much more money for my cpu
Yeah you do lol
Gpu crisis is global
Trust me i would have imported from Netherlands if i could have at msrp
i can buy the rx 5500 xt oc 8gb for 300
Yikes
Yes
That's awful
200 is better
ehh that's a lot better than the states
200 is also probably unobtanium
lol
hii quick question if i am at the right place. my PC is MSI Nightblade MI3 8RA-022CA and i wanna upgrade ram. i have 8gb atm. i used the memory finder and some suggestion are laptop memory model is that normal ? 😄
Only if that msi pc is a laptop lol, what cpu does it have?
it is not a laptop its a PC. i have i5-8400 2.8ghz
Some sff units used sodimms
the memory finder gave me the suggestions so kinda confused
and yes every suggestions are So-dimm so i should be ok ?
Ya it takes sodimms
trying to play outrider without this constant lag .would 16gb be alright or go for 32gb if i can ?
16 should be fine
alright any brand suggestion ? corsair ? kingston :d
Preferably not Corsair
But so dimm? Ballistix?
p sure there's sodimm ballistix
I know there's ripjaw sodimms
so yea
ah ballistix is only ddr3 sodimm
there is some sodimm ballistix ddr4
if you're getting sodimms, get the max memory speed that your laptop supports
mine would be 2400 MHz if im correct ?
i see some 2666 Mhz compatible with mine*
Crucial Ballistix 2666 MHz DDR4 DRAM Laptop Gaming Memory Kit 16GB (8GBx2) would be ok ? if so theres there 32 too but dont wanna overkill
SODIMM ballistix, despite being mainly Rev E, have issues with power.
Causes issues for ability to OC.
or clock high at al
outside of that, using a good IC doesnt really matter as these kits run JEDEC spec anyways @hollow thorn
laptop ram doesn't really matter when 80% of the laptop boards just don't let you go past 2666mhz
yep
power limit or just trash pcb?
Power limit
sodimm 16gbit revb?
it isnt thepower planes
yep
F
hawt ones
now for DJR
678237823782442MT/s
PCB would actually make sense as welk @hollow thorn
since its two factor
Rev E and Rev B are FCBGA
so their heat would be insulated by the PCB
so
probably some degree of thermal issues too
Laptops also have extremely high ODT, so thats another thing
@limber dragon arent you a contributor for Inegrals guide btw?
mmm
did you see the thing about the tRAS rule?
trying to get the tRAS=tCL+tRCD+2 rule revised
dont think I am, and dont know what I contributed if I did
and he said "fair enough but how does the diagram explain the rule" to a different diagram
wait I'm thinking of Hatr
I did the bdie sheet, and can edit the intel/amd sheet
yeah, alatron told me how it was rc/rp related, but doing that was incredibly unstable (if it even booted) on all the sticks I had at the time
had 4 or 6 sr bdie and 2 dr reve iirc
I want to say the reve didnt boot, and bdie was bsod on windows loading
yeah, the reve did 11 rp at 3800, but ras needed like 35+?
cause its just trial and error
my tldr for timings is as low as stable
thats fair, but theres some "expected values" that people need starting out
thats why I made this thing
most of the time I do the rp+rcd for ras, but end up tightning/loosening from there
👍
low tRAS is usually very stable, just not tRC, so I literally floor it
21 AMD 28 Intel
at least on B die
yeah
I have mine at rp+rcd because its stable and I cbf to bother going as low as possible
low 1.5something
good
c18 + 3600mhz ram or 3200mhz + c16?
Thats all I can find of the two so far, if i had to pick one which is "better"
Here's a question: Can I switch out the CR2032-3v Lithium battery with just any brand or does it have to be a specific brand ? (Just making sure that my Mobo Lithium battery isn't dead) My motherboard seems to be having the infinite turn off and turn on issue
Thank you, much appreciate it! : D
👍
If AMD 3000+ then 3600 hands down. If intel, 3200 is fine if it's cheaper.
you sure about this bud? I thought Ryzen 3000 was best with 3200MHz, and Ryzen 5000 was best with 3600MHz
Nah 3000 can do 1800 fclk usually with some voltage tweaking usually. 5000 can do 1900 with little effort.
5000 needs the latest agesa to run 1900 tho
and even then some chips fail
Yes but I don't count updating the bios as being much effort
true just adding a point
AMD already said their goal was to get 5000 up to 2000 fclk reliably
But yee going from 3200c16 to 3600c18 was a massive jump in perf after I got all the timings done
Thats a ways away imo
like a few months maybe
But achievable nonetheless. My chip will do 2000 fclk pretty stable, if I ignore the WHEAs.
Ryzen 3000 RAM frequency, latency, uclock, mclock, and fclock matter more than anything else for the R9 3900X, 3700X, and 3600. We're looking for the best RAM for Ryzen.

Buy...
3200 vs 3600 is very significant in many use cases
It really is
god damn
What means cl in the ram config
CAS Timing, the lower the better.
So cl18 is bad if you compare it to cl16
Not bad but worse, yes
But does it really make a difference for intel cpux
Ok thank you
SHould be able to find CL16 ram for the same price as CL18 or just a few dollars more
Ballistix 3600cl16 16gb is like 92$ I'd get that
This seems quite useful
Mega transitors/mm squared?
Million @vast meadow
Ahh makes more sense
Hi guys, is the ryzen 7 1700 capable for streaming games and multitasking? I will pair it with my rx 480
do you already have r7 1700?
No
Even if i can buy it for €100?
1st gen ryzen pretty bad too
nah
get an i5 10400 instead
around 150
or i5 11400
Ik but i don’t want to wait that long for a ipgrade
1700 has bad ipc, absolute TRASH imc
Unless it's the only option
I'd much rather get like 10400
Even if you have to wait for shipping (I assume the 1700 might be being offered to him from someone local), it's worth it for a CPU that isn't outdated and outclassed at this point.
fun
Would using a Ryzen 5 3400g be a good idea
Because there’s no chance I’m getting a decent gpu rn
What price?
~230
Imo i5 11500 would be better even tho it has worse cpu
How much are those going for
That’s not horrible
Would a i5-11400 be almost just as good
Ye
Might go with that it has a decently lower price
Almost but worse integrated gpu, that's why i said 11500
That makes sense so I’ll go with 500 then
What does the little triangle signify on the front panel connectors, is it a Positive or a Negative ?
I found the problem with the pc, after plugging in a Speaker, it was giving off a Continuous Short Beeping
Not sure what it means,
Ehh do you have a debug led by any chance?
Nope
What motherboard?
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H
What pattern of beeps?
It's a constant short beeping, after turning on the pc; Like this: "Beep, Beep, Beep, Beep" etc. until it turns off and on repeating
Are all the beeps the same length?
That is correct
Are they in groups of beeps, or just a steady stream?
It's a steady group, i'll send a video of it, if that's alright
Sure
Still beeping?
It still is, even after plugging it in
Okay
I think I found the chart for this specific motherboard
My guess is that these are the short beeps, if so it's complaining about memory not being installed correctly
Memory for Ram or Storage ?
Ram. Is your stick in the blue or white slot?
Try re-seating it
Understood,
Done
As i turn on the pc, it turns off for a second and then turns on and the beeping starts again
What are the rest of the loose cables hanging around?
One sata connector is connected to an HDD, and the rest is piled down, (I took my other psu from other pc)
The same problem occurs
Darn
Does this mean my motherboard is, gone ?
It's possible, but based on the fact that it's able to report that there's an issue I'd think the motherboard would still be okay
What happens if you don't have any ram installed at all?
maybe dead ram stick ?
I'll see what happens,
But the ram stick is brand new i got from ebay, fully tested and functional
The same problem occurs even without the ram,
F
I guess the motherboard doesn't want to post at all
Darn, It was when I played Fallout New Vegas and throwing a dynamite the pc turned off and decided to no longer post
Thank you for helping me out BobLaserShark [ A100 80GB ], Gladly Appreciate it very much! This mobo served me well for school, welp
RIP to the mobo
Anyone in the UK looking for a Ryzen 9 3900X?
Ahh #9 sorry about that
Is there a good cheap ram available, Ideally looking for a 3000mhz
define cheap
below $50
For what cpu?
ram
For what cpu
vega 3?
And 50$ will only get you 1x8gb
Are you on a laptop?
nah
I think he means like a 2200G or 3200G?
wait
3000mhz will kill your performance on Ryzen
Well kill...? But if they are on a budget
I do agree though....50 USD isn't enough for decent memory, defo not dual channel
unless ya want like 2 x 4GB which no new PC in 2021 should have this
sorry { I just searched my system info] AMD Althlon 3000g with Radeon Vega Graphics 3500mhz
Ho much ram do you already have?
I got like 1x8gb so should I try to aim for 2x16gb?
I think 16GB total is fine....what are you wanting to get out of it?
I mean like: gaming, editing etc?
Yeah, I don't think you need 32GB. Might as well just get better speced 16GB
dedicated GPU or only the athlon vega graphics?
@vast meadow This is on AMD specs:
System Memory Specification Up to 2667MHz dual memory channel
Don't think 3000MHz RAM will make much difference?
Unless Athlon can push RAM like Ryzen takes 3200MHz but can push further to 3600MHz
Up to 2667 is wrong it can easily go to 3200
Not 3600 tho
Fair, never had an athlon.
If you already had 8gb leave it
Ram aint the problems
The cpu is
oh
But the ram is kinda
@pale fox basically do you have a GPU, or will you game off of the CPU integrated graphics?
But cpu more
Well I'm getting a gpu
what gpu
1650
please dont tell me you payed over 250
nope
few
its $229
nope
where
ehh i think you got scammed
@stiff kraken this is a scam site right?
well
never heard of it
not going to assume any site i haven't heard of is a scam, but i've heard of most of the reputable sites (that operate in the US at least)
snowy get on to your bank asap
ouff
reviews are mixed
some people got their orders
some people did not
up to you if you want to gamble on it
@pale fox How did you pay...?
the positive reviews could also be faked
then dont
please don't...I mean obviously your choice, and also it could not be a scam
But nowadays if there's a 1% chance it could be a scam. Take it as a certainty
yeah I know
lol
I built my first ever PC this year as well due to my employment needing a stronger rig and took me 6 months to complete it
So I know the urge
There's no shame in going 2nd hand...facebook marketplace could prove a bit valuable?
marketplace prices are always garbage
people post rx 570 for $650 on there
I did get a RTX 2080 Super for £500.00
maybe it's better in yalls civilized country
Which isn't the best...but not horrible considering the situation
that's pretty cheap for a 2080 super
easily going for 1k over here
it is a 2080 super though 😛 it was a lot to begin with xD
it's like it was actually 2nd hand priced u know?
yeah
I was shocked it actually came, but did ask for hand delivery plus test on my mobo
I know, but I got lucky. Could mean same for you.
yeah, but should I risk the chance tho?
Yeah I remember looking at these cards and being like, yh I'll buy during christmas don't need the PC ASAP :))))
lol
That depends. With fb marketplace, shpock or whatever 2nd hand apps there are in the US. Things are different. You have the power to strike a deal with the seller.
In a store, you can't bargain and defo can't tell them, drop it at my house and let me test it on a bench
If I order in the US its gonna take delivery longer
Of course, you wouldn't expect a store to scam you in the first place....but
Are you not in the US? If you don't mind me asking...I assumed you were as you mentioned USD for your RAM price
The pound sign don't work on my keyboard ;-;
it aint in ireland id say mario got hella lucky
