pcmark & 3dmark only
you can fix the issues you know
Userbenchmark has been horrible for a long time
just disable CPU c-states and turn PCIe devices down to gen 3
UB is alright once you realize it includes overclocked benchmarks and other oddities
is it fixable or...
yeah
is there any alternatives to userbenchmark
They changed their rating methodology to favor intel back with zen 2
happened to me on an X570 TUF board, fixed it with the methods I listed
really easy
takes 2 minutes in bios
independent reviews but they might not have both components you want to look at
3dmark pcmark only
Their information is worse than useless
True, UB does seem to favor Intel and nvidia
alr
Doesn't "seem to", they reduced the weighting of multithreaded performance in favor of single threaded to favor intel back with zen 2
3d mark is like 25 euro tho
They legit changed their rating scheme to favor one company's products
just ask @naive pendant for a key lmao
of cards and cpus
free 3d mark key how?
idk he has a bunch
woah :o
geekbench is fake too because takes 1 min to test & its the reason that this bench is fake
gave away 10 of them in general 2 months ago
dont want to bombard the poor fella with keys tbh but if he decides to grace me with a key would be greatly apprecitated
i asked about bech apps on quora from techies of famous companies
amd a series idek
why
quora users are insane
quora isnt necesarilly good
so what is good
ive seen some insane stuff on quora lol
just look up some PC keywords on reddit and join the subreddits with a lot of members
or company servers like this one
is the free verison of 3dmark any useful or just a stress test?
I used to like toms hardware but... Some of their top contributors are kinda rude.
if you have money buy the full version
its a good bench
timespy, right?
yeah
yeah timespy is usually the go-to bench
not everyone has a ton of money
if you want to fully test your hardware then buy it if you can
free version is kinda lame
The free version is fine. You can also run other tests for free, don't have to buy 3dmark if you don't want to
well any money going towards my pc atm is aimed at some more fans and a new gpu so
dont have a good gpu atm anyway
Well there are stress tests for stability (furmark, aida64, prime95, etc), and if you want to test the cpu specifically you could hit it with cinebench or something. Or just see how it performs in whatever applications you're going to use it for
for testing all parts especially ram & ssd
Yeah, there are tests for those as well. There are a lot of free tests out there thankfully. Google exists
thanks
hello all, new to chat, question about buying RAM. Trying to get 4 sticks of 8 gb RAM for my new Ryzen build. would two sets of 2x8GB sticks work just fine, or do i need to look for a specifically 4x8gb stick kit?
Two 2x8GB sets will be fine, just make sure they are exactly the same for best compatibility and performance.
thanks man. Also wondering about Dual rank. Do i need to worry about dual rank sticks if i have all four slots filled?
Dual rank would be better but you don't need to worry about getting dual rank if its too expensive or not in stock.
on an x470 mobo fyi
Ryzen 5600x in stock on B&H photo website right now.
@wary storm by the way, make sure your x470 board has bios updated to support 5600x :)
And also, 4x8 or 2x16 are both good if you just want 32gb of ram
Do you suggest Ryzen 7 3600x or ryzen 5 5600x for a beginner pc build
I am planning on buying one or the other today
5600x
if it doesn't fit in your budget then get a 10400f, much cheaper then the 3600 and performs just as well when paired with a b560 motherboard and 3200cl16 ram
or preferably 3600CL18
or 3600c16 crucials
^^^
Yes b550 is an amd board b560 intel
id get a b550 board if you plan to use a 5000 series otherwise you would need some way to flash the bios
Oh, my bad, I see
If you already have a b550 mobo then 5600x probs best shot
Yep, my B550 arrived yesterday, I didnāt know that was the difference between B550 and B560 but I made sure to only look at AMD ones
Good to know, thanks
b560 is an intel chipset, socket lga1200 (supports 10th gen and 11th, with 11th gen you get gen4 pcie) and you can't oc the chip but you can oc the ram, it's like the a-series chipset amd has, b550 is 3000 compatible and 5000 series with a bios update, you're able to oc the chip and the ram
What he said^
True
absolute bawler š
Dang bud
hand reveal
š³
Will this support an i5-7400 and does it support underclocking?
Weird request I know but I need it for someone
Can anyone find one with those specifications under $70 please?
Need the ram to be underclocked
So they'll just run at 2133 then
Mta8atf1g64az-2g6h1 micron 8gb i5-7400 1060 3gb Hp Odense-2k
Specs
It isnāt doing it for some reason
Isn't doing what
Putting RAM down to match the other kit or whatever
So with both sticks in, what's it doing?
Lemme see
Cuz the fastest that board will do is 2400
and only with a pavilion power chassis
So it should just run both at 2133
Unless the JEDEC on the 3200 is higher
what 3200 stick is it?
Also, total system capacity is only 16 GB
Idk what stick, they are also trying to Max the system out
They got an 8gb stick in 2133mhz and a 8gb stick in 3200mhz
and most likely can't fit a standard MATX board
You know what
@toxic flame
screw holes are different
Hmm
Board swapping won't work without a new case because the standoffs aren't removeable as far as I know
Frick
Most of the standoffs in those cases are stamped
and not the screw in kind
And the bottom left screw is offset funky
Hmmm
compared to M-ATX boards
I need to know what he system is doing with both sticks installed
No reason it shouldn't work
Well Iāll tell you what
Apparently taking one of the sticks out while the system is off
I canāt say anything mean
I mustnāt
It isnāt for some reason
Not booting?
Apparently
Not showing the ram?
They said ānothingā when I asked what happened when they put the stick in
Might not have been seated all the way
But when they take it out it (predictably) crashes windows
SOmetimes gotta push hard
does anyone have absolutely any news on the asus crosshair viii dark hero?
haha other than it's out of stock
What news would we have?
yeah that was very wide of a question i mean of like when they would be back in stock by chance or anything i've looked all over can't find anything
Whenever stock is made
touche
getting post code 00 on an X299 Deluxe ii after a bios flashback, any suggestions?
00 is generally all systems go
But I'll check
how did you update the BIOS?
WIth a USB drive or from Windows?
is there a place i can post images?
aight
yes
anywhere appropriate. u r just under-leveled rn lol
oh lmao
if ur name gets to green u can prob post at that point
around a minute 30
then the LED turned off
cpu is a 10980xe
probably should have said that
Was the LED flashing the whole time or solid?
my bad im here sorry
im planning to get a new pc
Reflash the BIOS. Then with the PSU switch off, make sure the CPU fan is plugged into the CPU_FAN header. Remove and reseat the ram. Try and boot it again
okay
people say CPU fan header and dead CPU the #1 cause. A good portion is simply the CPU_FAN header not being plugged in all the way
still 00
Yeah, it's def CPU related
Did it work before the BIOS update?
Or you just updated right out of the gate?
aight
Don't you have to rename the bios file?
They did
I checked, it's proper
X299D2.CAP
POST code 00
Which means bad CPU or BIOS
CAP is all caps
Which version BIOS are you using?
Tempted to have you install a slightly older version to see if it works. https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/LGA2066/PRIME_X299-DELUXE_II/PRIME-X299-DELUXE-II-ASUS-3201.ZIP
I'm also checking if it's a Dual BIOS board
You using the 1 or 2 CPU power plug?
EATX 1 or WATX 2?
Shouldn't matter but
have you flipped off the PSU switch to completely unpower the system yet?
yep
CMOS reset?
done that as well
Well poo
Everything I can find says CPU/motherboard issue then
00 means dead CPU or MB
5800x or 5900x?
ill see if i can borrow a 7th gen 2066 cpu
one of my buds has an older x299 system, going to see if his cpu will post in my board
i think its an i9 7900x
or vice versa
Weird to see so many problems
i know right?
The dark won't work out of the box with a 10xxxxe chip, need to flash first I think
Depends when you bought them
had them send me a new chip
They've done multiple flashbacks now
code Df before the new chip
00 or nothing at all after on that board
sent it back and bought this asus board instead
what power supply?
ya, what are the common factors here that could be bricking stuff?
850 probably fine, but you can make the 18 core chip draw over that on ambient water, lol
well, maybe just around 800
What about the CPU cooler?
cooler is an nh-d15s
d15 should be good for about 500w on the cpu, will hit 100c around there and throttle
I'm wondering mount wise though
changing the mount tension
If you'll get different results
Idk, I don't think there's much more troubleshooting to be done, either bad chip or board
Multiples though
hard to say unless you have other parts to test each component
weird
are the trident z neos good
Ping me if/when you find the answer, I'm curious
okay
or should i go with the corsair vengance
3600
16 GB?
they are on sale for the 4x 8gb
so 32GB total
For 5900x, I'd be shooting for 4000 mhz ram
Get that sweet 2000 FCLK
For both, actually
Yeah, the speed the CPU chiplets communicate at
the faster the ram, the faster they communicate
This stuff is the same price and better, RGB too but out of stock :/ https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820164206
i can get the ballistix on amazon for 100 per 2
though they wont ship till the 18th
the question is now
do i settle for the 5800x
or get the 5900x
Unless you're doing phot or video editing or rendering, 5800x be more than enough
ill be doing some cad modeling with fusion 360
is the ROG crosshair formula worth it?
They've been restocking nicely lately
nice
IMO, no reason to spend more than $200 on a board unless for looks or heavy overclocking
Still don't need a fancy board for that
Gotta get one with Flashback for 5000 series
That's really the only requirement
Kinda tough on X570
This one has it
TUF Gaming series distills essential elements of the latest IntelĀ® platform and combines them with game-ready features and proven durability. Engineered with military-grade components, an upgraded power solution and a comprehensive set of cooling options, this motherboard delivers rock-solid performance with unwavering gaming stability.
WiFi too
I have it, board is nice while not breaking the bank
yea, thats the one
Just be sure it's the TUF PRO and not TUF Gaming lol
does it have the pwm controls for the watercooling pump
Yes
It has an AIO header
Can do it in the BIOS or in the AI Suite Software
AIO pump header is for any water pump
Not just AIO's but they label it that
whats the difference between the pro and the plus
Flashback vs no flashback
my other choice is the hero
or the E gaming
I think it would match the look of my build better
That'll work, yes
does anyone know when 5900x or the crosshair dark hero is getting a restock
plz @ me if any1 has info
literally just camp some etailer or refresh pcpp
it'll come up evantually
Wdym by that
Wait on the website, hitting refresh frequently, around times you expect stock to appear.
Honestly processors are getting easier to find. I expect more at best buys (online and in store) by Tuesday afternoon for example, they've been relatively consistent.
Another option is a stock drop discord channel. We're not allowed to link other channels though, so you'll have to figure that one out. (Google)
Best buy is gonna be thursday this week
Thank god AMD accepted my RMA request now I just gotta ship it back
Iām gonna guess I print the label and tape it to a box and put the cpu in it
Thank you for the info
Do you know roughly the time?
do you lie in the us because microcenter should have a 5900x
live*
guys what amd 5000 series proccesor for gaming should i get
Intel is better for the pricing currently and because they are actually in stock
but like for amd because i have my b550 mobo already
5600x and 5800x are commonly in stock tbf
ok thank you very much i appreciate the help
Personally i would go with a 10700K on sale over a 5600X though
Yeah, 5800x is worse value, but because of that it also stays in stock longer than the 5600x
Epic
Yeah, MC usually has 5600x and 5800x stock at this point
5800x has been in stock for 30 hours
ik this isnt the gpu section but what shoul i pair it with thye 3060 ti or 3070?
should*
Either is fine
ok
What resolution
1080p some 1440p but mostly 1080p
3070
3060 Ti is fine then
Whichever restocks first
ok
Avoid msi/gigapoop
i found a 3060 ti in microcenter for 400 its out of stock but ill try camping it
also its a founders edition
those look really cool
Your best bet to get a card is watching a stock checker bot
how do you do that? sorry dont know a whole lot about this stuff
Just a stock checker bot constantly refreshes multiple different shops but also enter newegg shuffle every day it's on
thanks i appreciate your help
Np
where could one get a stock checekr bot
yes same question here
or you can just join the stockdrops discord
There are multiple on twitch/YouTube livestreaming 24/7 but you can get ones you can use yourself on github if yoj jhsg google one
Anyone knows why my cpu make buzzing noice when overclocked and running cinabench?
coughs in Snail Monitor and Stock Drops

what exactly is making the buzzing?
your fan?
CPU fan?
Im using aio@elfin warren
So is it normal?
It's most likely the pump getting faster due to increased CPU temps, so yes
What you mean lol?
check DMs
Ok so it wont cause any damage to the cpu?
No
Ok thanks
speaking of, my AIO is arriving today
š³
Ohh right I'm in stock drops but snail mail i didn't know of cuz only looked at eu stock checkers
Yeah there's so many drops that i could have gotten in uk which before brexit is where we usually would get alot of stuff cuz cries in Ireland
I think so Iām pretty sure the regular price is $400....
Yea cause micro center in housten has them for in store pickup for 250
i got one
Says 25+ left
I wouldāve but I want it for creative use and that was better than the 5600x for my use case
ok
Getting it for $320
thats great
Or $350 if the price goes back up
Yep
It was all my choice because like my uncle kept saying heāll get me something I want if I do good in school this semester and he kept pushing it when Iād say no then I finally gave in and said a CPU since I was already trying to save for an upgrade lol
thats awesome
Yeah
Yeah intel is better value atm tbh
my cpu gpu combo is now a 1660 ti and 9900k
Mines going to be a i9-10850k and RTX 2080 super
And yeah only reason I looked into AMD originally was for an upgrade path but then I found out about AM5...
Yeah
Next CPU is LGA1700
So either way would need a new motherboard
Yep
Also Iām trying to decide now should I try to get a cheaper motherboard or should I stick with my current one as Iām currently getting one thatās $200 but if I get one thatās cheaper itāll take less time to save for
https://www.microcenter.com/product/623786/msi-z490-mag-tomahawk-intel-lga-1200-atx-motherboard
What Iām currently looking at
Currently working for my dad to get money and first Iām saving for a laptop then afterwards Iām getting the upgrade
What mobo do you have atm
A MSI Z390 -A PRO so itās not compatible
Imo there's not much point as even tho it's last gen z board it's still z board
uh
Yeah
I'd recommend seeing if you can get a 9900k instead so you don't gotta upgrade mobo
THere's really no reason to spend more than $200 on a board unless you're doing some big overclocking
But ĀÆ_(ć)_/ĀÆ
I donāt really mind upgrading the mobo it saves me some work as well as Iām getting a different case too
Alright
Alright
Yeah I plan to use it for streaming and video editing once I find good software thatās free...
Tried Davinciās Resolve but itās very confusing
Adobe premiere rush is free but you only get 3 free renders a month
Alright cool
https://www.newegg.com/msi-z490-a-pro/p/N82E16813144306?Item=N82E16813144306&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-13-144-306-_-03102021
Howās this mobo? Itās the newer version of mine I assume
Looks good
That sounds like it's their rgb connector
tfw newegg tries to recommend you its "best reviewed memory" and it's all ddr3
i mean
if a lot of people bought it and they like it then yeah best reviewed
not a lot of good expensive things are in best reviewed cuz not everyone buys them
simple recommendation patterns: not always the best, lol
Also can you daisy chain RGB so it only uses one slot?
Nvm what I was asking about only uses one connector apparently
Woot, ASUS just got my motherboard for repair, maybe I'll be able to put my pc back together soon
Nice
What voltage does some pc usually run in idle? Is around 1.25v recommended? Currently I am running around 1.35v
depends on cpu
so, i'm trying to find the rgb jumper for ASUS ROG Strix GL10DH does anyone know where this jumper set is?
RGB jumper? What does the RGB jumper do that you're looking for?
It's for a new fan with aurasync
yeah, I can't locate it
I know it has aruasync capability because I already have things set up for it, but before trying to take everything apart I wasn't sure if it was a known thing
Well, from what I just found on LTT, it doesn't have an RGB header
But I'm still looking
The RGB chassis lighting might connect by USB and not an RGB header
oh... yeah, actually that makes a lot of sense based on what i was looking at
rgb gamer epic fps boost
I found pics of the GL12
And the RGb header is down at the bottom of the motherboard on the right
But not sure of the GL10 will have it
Check down at the bottom of the motherboard
And also above the 24 pin ATX connector by the RAM
Those are the two common spots for RGB headers
Oh, I was going to send a photo but can't post a photo
I found a few places without markers for what they were but they were four pin
sent
it uses either the argb header or a usb header
So, what I found is the Asus PC has no RGB headers, the case is done through USB. Recommended a controller and splitter cable for future use. https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-Controller-Coolers-Radiators/dp/B0787FVBV8
Whatās the point of a BIOS flashback for Intel CPUs?
11 series isn't out yet so they'll need to update the 500 series boards to be compatible
I saw it on 400 series though
Same deal, they'll need to be updated on the B460/X490 to support new CPUs so why force people to buy old ones just to flash to a new BIOS?
Alright
hello everyone, I had a couple of questions I wanted to ask. I'm about to upgrade my pc for the second time since I built it. I currently have an i5-7500 that I want to upgrade, almost certainly to a ryzen 9 3900x. First question is about the motherboard (hardware is not my forte), would a B550 hinder performance in any way, or should I go for an x570? Also, since this will make 3 major components of my PC changing (first one was the graphics card), should I expect windows to lock me out until I purchase a new license? I apologize for the wall of text, but this thing is my baby, I want to do things right.
B550 will be fine
Also, tie Windows 10 to an email account and you don't have to worry about reactivation with a hardware change. Just sign in with the same credentials and it will activate
Link it to an MS account: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-link-your-windows-10-product-key-microsoft-account
excellent, thanks for the assist, that's a good bit of change that I can save, for RAM
@naive pendant do u know what time bestbuy is going to restock online?
https://www.multipointe.com/ @mild jackal what u think abt this ram lol
All restocks are random
i have a question, for a ryzen 9 5900x, would 3200 mhz ram be good?
3600 or faster
Need that sweet speed for hte FCLK
also one more question, if i get 3200 mhz ram, would i be able to overclock it to 3600 mhz?
95% of the time, not with keeping timings
Just get 3600 from the start, most are the same price as 3200
ok
Why buy $550 processor and get cheap ram tho?
Don't rely on OCing for anything, especially ram, ram oc is annoying
There is no quad channel anymore except in servers
like should i get 4 8gb sticks or 2 16gb sticks
Most workstation boards like TR and Xeon are quad chanel iirc
sry i meant the question i just sent
I'd get 2x16
ok
More upgradability
yes thanks i appreciate all your help
Yw
Guys can a z370 mobo run a i9 9900k
Yes
oh thank god
cause i found a great deal on a i9 9900k to replace my 8700 which is getting slow
Fair
it was 250 like thats pretty cool oh yea its new too
might get that myself
4600h or 10750h
**
Pretty sure they trade blows depending on workload
anyone know where i can get a 5900x
best buy, micro center
all out of stock
some of those hp ram heat spreaders remind me of like ddr3 ripjaws, lol
thinking best buy gonna be this tuesday
no restock 2 weeks from previous or tuesday 2 days ago sadge
Noob quick question about AMD motherboards. Do they also need to be updated regularly for next gen cpus?
I am looking to upgrade to something that allows long term upgrading.
wait for AM5 then
Googling release date.
cause this was the last generation for AM4
Thank you
Last generation for LGA 1200
but then there is intel who changes the socket every other day
future proofing is a meme
^
intel soft locks or changes sockets about every 2 generations
Short medium term of course. My last motherboard came with the max i7 cpu on it, and for some reasons I didn't check that so I was stuck with it for years.
5 years is good.
I am not looking for 20 years :))
but AM4 is dying rn
thats the thing
cant remember how long AM3 or AM3+ lasted but I think it was a while too
Googling now to see different generation longevity
"With AMD you can usually use 3-4 generations of CPUs on the same motherboard with bios updates." That's neat.
I just said that 3 times
Well I suppose they are doing it better than intel anyways
true
I am Intel now.
True
4 generations of CPU is 8 years. That would be pretty impressive. Given the fact that motherboards don't really contribute radically to a PC like CPU, GPU and RAM do, it's neat. Even 3 x 2 6 is neat.
not always 8 years
sometimes a new CPU comes out a mere year or less after the last gen
True, but close generations don't necessarily require an upgrade.
I mean, I won't update each and every year for sure.
probs high ram prices XD
11th and 12 gen intel cough
most would only upgrade cpu every 3-5 years
coughs in me upgrading every chance I get
I have years when I am PC addicted besides work, and I have years when I am totally the opposite.
So I don't necessary require upgrades/updates.
will a 5800x be good enough for gaming and doing designs in fusion 360...or should i hold out for the 5900x
does anyone else have a 5900x that knows how to best cool it
also what's been their avg boost clock
Silicon lottery
?
Every CPU is so ever slightly different, one 5900x might boost to 5.4ghz, another might only do like 4.6ghz.. I was also referring to the silicon lottery site, they usually have a bunch of binning statistics, but not for Zen 3 yet it seems.
huh
well mine's been hanging around 4.95 without oc
idk where that stands
which is why im asking if any other 5900x owners would be willing to share their own clocks
Sounds pretty normal tbh
Boosting freq really doesn't matter much as long as it behaves relatively normally
ig noctua nh-d15, dark rock pro 4, arctic liquid freezer II 240/360
There's also always hwbot if you want OCing stats
hmmm ok
@glossy dust meh, d15 and drp4 both need to check for case clearance and ram clearance
U12a masterrace >:D
i guess a kraken z63 is a little under-performing then?
i couldve gone for a 360mm aio though
unsure if the price to performance is worth it though
btw #old-cooling is there if u need to ask about cooling solutions
owh it's fine
G15cs-b8 can anyone tell me some more info on this motherboard
@naive pendant thats a prebuilt, right?
Reason: Bad word usage
Thatās weird cause I canāt find much info on it. Iām trying to see if I am able to upgrade storage, ram fans and later on in the future graphic card
Yes
Definitely
I cant tell you how many fan ports there are but it will have support for fans
It has m.2 and a handful of sata cables although sata power is not a guarantee (but probably available)
And you can slap another GPU in no problem
Yeah thereās one sata6 slot open
Will adding a 4tb give the power supply any issue ?
I dont know the power supply but my money is on no
If only 1 drive almost definitely
I have came across prebuilts with no open sata power cables before but this seems like the kind to have them
Yeah it has it definitely but I just hope it can run it without stressing the powersupply
I honestly feel like just building a whole new pc
Hmm, someone is supposedly selling a couple of 5600xs on Ebay at 187 a piece. Seems so sus yet covered by Ebay's money back guarantee, hmm
Link?
International seller? They're hoping you'll release the paypal money before you can file a claim
Nah, some guy from Texas
Plus, he accepts almost everything for payment
Just rings the sus bell so much
@drowsy nymph Take one for the team and bench this with your new pot š
lol they have 0 feedback as a seller recently
Sounds like hijacked account to me
61 reviews, mostly as a buyer...
Item details are a literal copy paste of the ebay given information...
That price is an obvious red flag...
Could be hijacked yeah
Probably
The dude just copy and pasted the listing specifics without even expanding the condition description
I need help if anyone is on.
I was resetting my memory frequency up to 3600 because I believe thatās what it was at before and it reset and now wonāt come on
I bought my Ryzen 5600x off of B&H photo for the retail price earlier this week.
Reset cmos
gimme 5900x plox š©
What's a good x570 board to pair with 5950x under $400
I was thinking croshair viii or asus x570-e.
Does it have flashback?
Why is my ASRock B550 Taichi BIOS Flashback taking so long lol
its been almost an hour
and that thing still just blinking away
Best to just let it be, if you interrupt it bad things could happen
i do be letting it be doe
Anyone here have some pointers for doing a bios update without cpu?
It's really easy
not having nay luck
24 pin and 8 pin power BIOS file on a flash drive, renamed if needed, insert USB into flash port, push button and wait
Some files you need to rename a certain way
Just got in my Asus B550-i motherboard and Ryzen 5600x - plugged in 24 and 8 - usb stick in all good there
push the botton, 3-5 secs - no power
nothing happening , no lights no fan spinning nothing
no lights - nothing indicating that its working.
CPU installed?
no
checked 24 and 8 into the board and into the powersupply
Yes
as well as cooling then
i know its a dumb question, i just dont wanna brick this
Also need to rename the BIOS file
SO yeah, install CPU and cooler then and try again
will do thank you for your help
Noice!
ok, looks like everything stopped, no movement for about 20 sec on either light or sub light
so at this point is it ok to disconnect
if the light goes out, yes
Welcome!
SAM supports 3000s CPUs now on my board at least. š„³
SAM or BAR?
nVidia or AMD GPU?
Now i'll admit. I have a NVIDIA RTX 2080 Super which to my understand, they are not support. At least not yet
so it is useless
Oh, they won't be
but at least it is nice to have the option now
Plus the nVidia driver for RTX3000 series doesn't support the Ryzen 3000 CPU's yet
nice shouln't be an issue then
and hopefully 5900x at least very very soon
My MSI X470 Gaming Plus has had the Resizable Bar option in BIOS for a while now
Right next to the "Above 4GB vram" optimizing option
also, what is this BAR?
BAR is the real term for SAM
AMD just calls it SAM to make it sound special
It's a PCI-E specification
It's actually Resizable BAR.
So SAM gives more of a marketing ploy.
Yes
like NVIDIA DLSS?
DLSS isn't just marketing though, it's actual technology
or like Ray Tracing
So is RT, there are dedicated cores for it lol
lol
SAM is just AMD"s word for resizable BAR
ah okay
Which is a PCI-E technology and not proprietary
Would SAM help my 4K Capture Card? Kappa am joking
The way resizable bar works is it allows the CPU to directly access the GPU memory. It's been part of PCI spec for a while now, AMD is just the first to use it and they coined their "Smart Access Memory" term for it.
In theory it's a good idea for games that use tons of vram, in practice it's only a few %, if that.
a few games actually supports SAM at all?
hmm
sucks that BAR might take a while to support b450
That's with both SAM and "Rage Mode"
like I said I do hope to get a RX 6800/6900 XT at some point in the future
but am more likely to get it from the cryptocurrency crash at this point
like from ebay
nope
anybody buying 6000 series amd for mining is an idiot
Mining crash won't get them below msrp
Then I don't know what is holding them back. I know about this silicon issue, but shouldn't be THIS far and between for months.
Like I said, just hoping one day
Heck no, people gonna mine more so when it goes up they have more
AMD is supplying consoles, which take priority
So not likely to see many AMD GPUs dropping
š¢
i thought was even distribution
𤣠Look at the number of consoles sold vs number of GPUs, it's nowhere near even
oof well i havent looked at console numbers, no intereist in them tbh
AMD vs Nvidia GPU shipments
AMD is nearly at an all time low of GPU shipments (back to 2014 data)
oof
Oof indeed
GOOD NEWS for B550 and X570 owners
https://www.extremetech.com/computing/320796-amd-has-fixed-its-usb-connectivity-issues-updates-arrive-in-early-april
its been 4 hours and this board's bios still hasnt finished updating...
Uh oh
wait wha?
š¤ Hoping for no brick on that flashback
You sure a solid light doesn't mean it's done?
flashing via OS? I think you can cancel those ones
B550 Taichi, its blinking, not solid
Flashback with USB
I mean flashback can handle corrupt BIOSes no?
im not suer
IDK
sure*
WHat board?
This is when BIOS programmers be nice too
this is a time sensetive build too, i need it done in an hour
In the correct USB slot I assume?
yes and yes
im hecked
yeah factual
should i hit the psu power switch or just yank the USB out or what
yeah it should take like 4 minutes
hold on maybe im crazy but I think it might have started blinking faster and I didnt touch it
im gonna give it a minute or two just in case
Not a bad idea
im not crazy i think it just got slower again
anyways holding button didnt do anything when I just did it
psu switch time then
š¤
morse code for "please end me"
but actually, probs write activity or smth (that is constantly failing to write)
Troubleshooting help:
My parts:
Case: Corsair 750D
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VIII Formula
Ram: Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB
GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti SLI
CPU: i7-6700K
PSU: Corsair 1000W
My problem:
I had some stability issues with my fresh build, so I decided to update my BIOS to...
I think you're right hei
looks like it should go from slow blinking to medium blinking to fast blinking and then done
and its about a minute slow, a minute fast, and then restarts the cycle
i flipped psu switch
i guess now i give it another 10 minutes?
if it dead id
id cry
guess after that its time for a different USB
oh maybe i did this part wrong
when I extract it do I do
extract here or extract all
@long geyser
@elfin warren
sorry for the pings but my customer is like blowing up my phone
Extract here, copy files to USB
he thought it was gonna be done today so he left his old one somewhere else or something idk
Rename the file if needed
ok so this looks good then?
Should be
alright third times a charm
if this doesnt work im gonna cry myself to sleep
could something ebing connected to the motherboard be the result of this happening?
prob broken or sum
i have the 24 pin connected as well as the front IO and a couple USBs i think
nah no CPU
Mmmm
said it didnt need CPU
just 24 pin
no cpu power no
It doesn't say you need the 8 pin power, just 24
Yeah, just 24 and nothing else
first try to see if something hapend in you set up
You don't even know what's going on, thx
should i just giving advice
maybe someone scam you somtimes people selll things that broken
its completely new lol
i work with used parts all the time, trust me, i know you can get scammed
not a scam
oh
It's a problem with the AsRock BIOS Flashback feature, it's not even built yet
i know i just saying it might be broken
it probably is tbh
mmmm
unless im going on two defective USBs
Just didn't like the last file for some reason
maybe I can try a different BIOs file
No change when you tried it again? Still just sitting flashing?
i dont know what i gunna tell yuh never happend wit me
1.70 won't support Ryzen 5000 though
