#cpus-mobo-and-memory
1 messages · Page 181 of 1
it could also be that i forgot to shot off windows defender when i first upgraded.... meaning the software might have clashed
having two antiviruses running at the same time can cause problems
i'd rather get rid of AVG than defender though

because avg has always worked very well for me, and i have had issues with antivirus clashing
you think them clashing may have been a factor?
if you're dropping frames when there is a lot happening
Possibly
cause it hasn't done it since
it could be your 6 thread cpu getting overwhelmed
depending on how much money you have right now
blah... i was hoping you weren't going to say that.... i dread the thought of replacing CPU and mobo.... i got a steal, on mine, and i'm not sure i could get a similar deal next time around
an i7-9700 could be a decent stopgap if you find a good deal on one without replacing mobo
it's not going to be right now.... i'm just making a gameplan ahead of time
9700 and 9700K have been popping up for $180-200 lately
yeah i see a lot of used ones, but i'm kinda sketch about buying cpu used tho
you could also look at 8700K if you find a good deal
for a serious upgrade you'd have to get a new mobo
do you think it would be a worthy enough upgrade if i DO find a good deal? or would it be kind of a minor bandaid type of thing
but you could definitely do a stopgap upgrade to 8th or 9th gen i7
it just depends on how much money you have to spend
those cpus should be hanging on fine until 2023
right now, none... like i said i'm moving right now... i'm thinking closer to october.... i start my promotion process mid-late next month if all goes well
well yes i'm talking about how much you want to upgrade with when you do upgrade
not necessarily what you have at this minute
so if all goes well with that, i should be making a siginificant amount more money... i'm trying to get a good idea of what my best options are
but i guess come ramp season, it kinda depends on who releases what XD
what cooler do you have on your cpu? the included one?
crap, yes.... i had actually forgottten that i couldn't find one at that time.... UGGGHHHHH i need to do that :/
you will want at least a basic aftermarket cooler to make good use of any i7
i'm well aware that the stock fans are dookie.... i had actually planned on getting one, following the purchase of my i5... which i actually got on sale cause best buy had one returned by the customer in front of me in the geek squad... so i got a used price on one that was literally JUST sold
that's almost identical to the one in my old case
but then again, i guess 99% of aftermarket heat sinks looks about the same
there's only so much you can do to a fan strapped to a block of metal
it's got more heatpipes
also i've never been able to picture how those ones with the mount on the SIDE attatch....
it's a midrange offering, you can overclock most cpus on it
i have no idea what you're talking about
every one i've had, (heat sinks) have mounted flat, with the fan pointed down toward the cpu
tthese both look like the mounting platform is on the side
is that how they actually are now?
like this?
(again, i have a generic stock cpu fan atm
yeah, that's how mine currently is, and every one i've ever had was
this looks like it's to the side
adjacent to the cpu
it's just a different shape
it is still directly contacting the cpu
they are called downdraft cpu coolers
as opposed to the ones i showed earlier which are called tower cpu coolers
yeah it's just a different type of cooler
usually used in stock coolers by both intel and AMD
i've been building computers for years... and i always assumed the ones you called "tower cpu coolers" were for something else, and i disregarded them LOL
one of the major benefits of downdraft coolers are that it blows some air onto the board's power delivery
a lot of cheaper boards do not have any cooling for the power delivery
so the downdraft stock coolers help cool it
fair... it's crazy... my old gaming pc had like sub 100mm fans, as the primary... my current setup has a couple 240mm fans and there's a much bigger one on the access panel
(i may be misremembering the sizes, but i know they're massive compared to what i upgraded from)
my current pc has 8 120mm case fans
i only have 3 240mm fans (again, 2XX... idr the exact number) and one that's almost the entire circumference of the access panel LOL
probably 200mm
i also moved one of my small fans from my old pc to act as an exhaust fan
i am not aware of the existence of any 240mm fans
idr, it's whatever came with the titan V2
200mm is the most common size of the larger fans
thor v2*
80mm, 92mm, 120mm, 140mm, 200mm are the most common
ah, i think it's 3 140s, and 1 200....
so i wasn't too far off at all
seems like a headache for upgrading
possibly... but it's going to be a long time before a BIG upgrade ... and if i do, i'm more than likely going to build a second pc from scratch and simply use this one as a streaming desktop
toss a capture card in this thing, and use it exclusively for that
it's more that if you ever change case the fans can't follow
because no other case is going to have mounting holes for 230mm fans
not that big of a deal though
fair, but they're SURPRISINGLY quiet
creates a bit more e-waste
like i often times forget i even have it on
larger fans do not have to spin as quickly to move lots of air
therefore less noise
fair, but that's good considering i work from home LOL
then agian my headset is really good for noise cancelling... though i hate it cause it has that "no tangle" crap cables, that instead of tangling, just kink like a 50 year old water hose -_-..... i wish my job would allow me to have a wireless headset
so, to recap, for my own records/understanding... i7 would be a noticable, but not optimal upgrade, if i have the money, wait and upgrade mobo and cpu to the i9.... scrap upgrading the gpu as of right now because mine will suffice, and anything that would be an upgrade would not be cheap enough to be worth it
accurate?
and more immediately, upgrade the fan*
well
your gpu is enough for league but could benefit from an upgrade in warzone
although it might be a good idea to wait for the mining boom to end
an i7-8700 or i7-9700 and their K variants are a decent stopgap solution to slot into your current board
would they be an actually NOTICABLE upgrade tho?
if you wanted to a larger upgrade you could look at an i7-11700 + B560 board, i7-11700K + Z590 board, ryzen 5 5600x or ryzen 7 5800x + B550 board
like enough to warrent the 200$ish
your average fps likely would not see a noticeable difference
but better lows and less frequent frame drops
noted, thank you
whats a suggestion for a motherboard for 5800x & RTX 3060 Twin Edge OC combo
that's a lot of cpu for not a whole lot of gpu
did you already buy the 5800x?
i would recommend getting a 5600x or 10600K instead if not
yea still time to cancel
i like how you say "not a lot of gpu" after we just went over my crappy 1060 😢 ya'll suck LOL
3060 is better than what most people have
i don't think it makes a whole lot of sense to have a cpu that costs 50% more than your gpu
unless you're mostly doing cpu-bound productivity tasks
I mean true
Okay so do I keep it since I ordered it or do I get the 5600x?
i have a cpu that's one third the price of yours paired with a 3080 and not seeing any bottleneck at 1440p
ryzen 5 3600x does the job
i was originally going to upgrade to a 5800x alongside the 3080 but found it to be unnecessary after getting the 3080 first and testing it
Maybe just sell it for only like 50$ profit you will make someone’s day and you get money
nah scalping the 5800x isn't really a thing
the 5800x has the least demand out of the lineup
they are often in stock for hours on end
I know ors scalping but i mean only 50$ is good
yea I got lucky today with the shuffle and grabbed the 3060 so I thought the 5800x would be good
the 5600x, 5900x, and 5950x are the high demand ones
Scored a 5600x
a 5600x or 10600K will do more than fine with the 3060
But my board is giving me major trouble
even a 3600 or 10400 should do the trick
the 3060 is really not much better than a 2060 super
Well i am sticking to my r9 fury then
anyways, to answer your original question, i'm partial to the B550 AORUS ELITE as a premium board at a midrange price
it will easily handle even a 5950X but only costs $150 or so
if you are getting a 5600X, you can get away with a lower end board if you want to save money
MSI B550M PRO-VDH WIFI is a great bang for the buck board that'll handle a 5600X as long as you don't mind the micro atx size
@stiff kraken any experience w problems updating bios on mpg b550 boards from msi?
Have been having major problems
And i am doing the bios thing right
okay dually noted. Ill keep my orders for now but I will see if I can grab a 5600x
the 10600K has been having great sales lately i wouldn't count intel out if i were you
i saw them go as low as $215
bios flash button or updating from within bios?
Button
did you rename the file to the specific thing they ask for
should be fat32
Well yes it is
is it in the designated usb port
Yep
is the file in the root directory of the usb and unzipped
what cpu do you have in there
The light should flash but it will remain solid and not do anything
Tried no CPU and my 5600x
The board does not need cpu
To flash
yes i was just making sure you weren't trying to run it with a 1000/2000 series
is the build fully assembled otherwise? everything in there?
have you tried cmos clear?
i've had cmos clear fix things without changing any bios settings
worth a shot with how easy it is to do
What happened to the annoying guy?
I have made aliexpress x58 mobos work but this ritzy one refuses to wah
Eeh
I have a scrap heap of mobos i harvest cmos es from
Aliexpress mobos dont come w cmos
Some import thing
yeah international shipping of lithium ion batteries
batteries even need to be declared when shipping domestically over ground
different generations, and different sockets
B460 should be a bygone thing not that B560 has arrived
No more memory slowdown for i3/i5 intel
does anyone have a good guide to resetting cmos? i have a b550 aorus pro if that needs to be specified
Ez
Turn off power
Unplug PSU cable
Take out GPU (if needed)
Take out CMOS battery
Wait 10 minutes
Put battery back in
Done
i dont even have my pc built yet but i might have bricked my mobo bc i messed up a q flash
and
ok
ty
A cmos reset won’t help that
damn
tuf b450m pro is 3400g compatible right?
It’s on socket AM4, so yes
no like bios wise
Yeah
if i did end up bricking it would the only way to get it working be to try and get an rma?
Should be out-of-box compatible
pc part picker just said "it might not be compatible" so yea
Idk if any companies RMA for bios update bricks, but yes
kk
That was from back when Zen2 CPUs were new
oh
They aren’t anymore
welp
i installed my hyper x fury rgb ram 2 days ago and i just noticed that the ram sticks rgb doesnt match colors especially on white {one of them would show up as pure white and the other would show up as white with a bit of blue} is there any way to fix this
HyperX Fury RGB 16 gb [2x8] [3200 mhz cl16]
You could try rewriting the spd rgb data but that's risky and not covered in warranty
Yeah I definitely get it, and if it bugs you enough then you could put in a support/rma request and hope the next set is closer in color
whoever said 16gb is enough for my pc is an absolute liar
I don't think rgb stuff is stored in spd is it?
What r u doing on ur pc?
animating
Oh FOR SURE u need like 32gb
yeah man lmao
16 is enough for the majority of people but content creators and 4k streamers will want more
sometimes it doesnt occur to me that most people just use a pc for playing games
that's harsh
Yeah for gaming 16 is a sweet spot but for tasks like editing, rendering, and animating it will take a toll on just 16gb u need more try to get new ram and sell the sticks u have rn
Tasks(AMONG US REFERENCE)
Damn
😂
having photoshop and adobe animate open at once already gives the whole pc a major hit
with a core turbo of 3.5ghz that also cant handle very intensive vector animations
Yeah and also it’s a laptop airflow isn’t the best and the cpu doesn’t have a cooler
exactly why i got the lian li lancool II mesh for my pc
Nice
Good choice
the case is alright but the fans that come with it are a little loud
might swap them for black noctuas or something
Stock fans I typically toss right in the spare parts box
this was my first pc so i didnt know what i was getting myself into lmao
Wish I had one of the ose 😢😢😢
Those*
same
Oh I've been building up a spare part box for about... 17 years? I've still got phone cables in it.
going from a 1050ti to a 3070 was also a huge weight off my shoulders
i couldnt play minecraft at 30 fps
Damn
Do u have the iPhone 4 charger?
And now you can do minecraft with raytracing lol
Yes
😂
dude yeah even shaders with a render distance of 16 chunks
BRUHHHH
That fat piece of garbage connector it is, I still have one
i used bsl shaders
I need to go to bed I got class tmrw and I’m in the east coast
they look great to me
Sheesh it's 2:30 for you then, get some sleep
better than me going to bed at 7am
i-
What is sleep? I have 2 kids that don't like to sleep.
I was chasing them back to their room at 2 AM last night
isnt that normal lol 😂 coming from a kid
Yes normal but still... annoying. I just drink lots of rum to fill the time. Makes me feel like a pirate while I play games.
😂
To clarify for any mod that's watching no, that wasn't a game piracy admission. I really just drink rum while I play ESO.
Lol nvm I’m not gonna go to sleep I’m going to try to get the stupid 3060
i-
Well alright then we'll just be forcing ourselves to stay awake together
And kids are the best gift life can give you enjoy them
idk if it's rlly worth it to get a 3060
yea get a 3080 if u can
Man I’m only missing a GPU AT THIS POINT
Yeah they're good kids usually but bedtime is a pain
3070 or 3080
lol
yea
How much a 3070?
idk man the price changes are a pain in the ass
Ye should I check BB and all those sites?
Watch a stock drop discord, I'd link one but mods don't like that
I’m in one rn funny you mention it
Snail monitor is best (but you have to pay or refer to get in)
isnt the 3060 equivalent to a 2070 or 2070 super?
Roughly
I think i heard that in a LTT vid so I believe so
how much does it cost
ye
It varies in the company
Well msrp is like $329 so I'd expect close to $400 lol
ROG is 520$ Msi ventus 3 is 500
that aint worth the money tbh lol
Ye
Just get a 3060 ti FE, much better price/performance
ye
Assuming of course you can find one
lmao
The miners LOVE that card
Yep just today it did
Nvidia is also supposed to be bringing back the 16 and 20 series production for some stupid reason
ye ik that
wait a sec
is it the 20 series as a whole
or was it just the 2060
and well the 1050 ti
Those are the confirmed ones but there could be more on the low end so they can use their bad chips up
If they existed, it would be equivalent to a 2040 or 3030, but nvidia hasn't really made low end stuff for a while
I know I went and typed in 3 other discord channels lol
😂
I really want to know what exactly they're typing now
ikr me 2
If it's a support request I LOVE people that put as much detail as possible into their description
lmao what if it was just a small sent tho
fried my laptop's motherboard
i forgot to unplug the battery and i unpluged a cable that connects the left side of the motherboard to the other side
and the i let go of the cable and it landed right between the wifi card and the cpu
then i saw a big spark but nothing caught on fire
i then just reassembled the laptop and started it
i got some warning in the start up but o dont remember what the warnings were about cuz i was in total adrenaline
then the laptop started normally
but after a while it just did a shut down by it self and that was the last moment my laptop had turned on
AHH
can you please wait 😂
Called it, detailed support request lol. I'm impatient.
So what exactly did you want to know? If it can be fixed? If data can be recovered? What parts can be salvaged?
yeah but please release the episode fast
😂
cuz i want the money boooooi
the money that i will use to buy a new laptop
sad noises
wat exactly did u want from us 😂
Board is likely fried like you said. You can recover your data from the hard drive.
Any "fix" is going to be temporary
is it likely that i can save it
oh ok
The data? Yes. The laptop? not likely. A new motherboard often costs as much as a new laptop, since modern ones solder the CPU to the board
ye
with the cpu and the gpu it will cost like a new laptop
yup
so
i have to cry in the corner
ok np
just buy a new laptop lol
thanks anyways guys :D
Not much do be done about it, F for respects
exactly 😂
i mean
i have a pc but i just want my laptop for studying and work
i c i c
idk if u got the money buy a good busniss laptop with an ssd inside
it'll be fast
The funny thing is if you take care of it a laptop can last you forever. I still have one that I got for christmas like 10 years ago, and it was an old refurb then. I use it with Linux since the GPU doesn't like Windows now.
and probably all u need
wow
i had a refurb that lasted 6 years
the mobo died on it
yeah that sound like a good idea
R.I.P for the old laptop then ig
A refurb laptop isn't a bad option, and shouldn't cost you too much
ye
i agree
yup
ok then
just dont get it with a touch screen
thanks so much guys
yeah i hate touch screens xD
0-0
It's basically a giant phone screen at that point and those are designed to fail
lmao ye
lol
i dont see the point of buying a laptop with a touchscreen anyway like im pretty sure people will get an ipad pro instead
Literally, it's planned obsolescence. The companies make money when your old phone dies and you buy a new one. Make the old one outlast the warranty just enough to maximize profit.
ye
yup
totally useless
Later
gb
yo yo i got a question
so i have this 16 gb ram stick
it's i think at a speed of 2400
mhz
i want to use it
i already have 2x8 gb 3200 mhz ones
if i put 3 ram sticks
will it cause problems
The speed will lower to the slowest stick, on all of them
ur profile
akhk
it creeps me out
lol
and well what if i overclock the 2400mhz to 3000mhz
and the others
to 3000mhz
wont that work
I do believe it will the set them all to 3000, but wait for someone a little more knowledgeable in memory to help you out more @elfin warren , 3 sticks can be weird.
ye oki oki
So kernel security check failures, irql not less than equal, memory management.. all bsods... ram problems?
Now critical structure corruption
Does anyone know if you can run a 5900x and a Gtx 1080 together, what will be the issues with the pair, and if there is a possibility of killing my processor or graphics card
I'm looking to upgrade to an i5-10400F soon, but I heard 11th gen is launching soon. Would it be a good idea to wait and maybe nab one of those instead?
Would be pairing it with a B560 mobo probably
Only if you really want pcie Gen 4 I think?
I have a 3060Ti. No idea if it would benefit from PCIe 4
Could use it for drives potentially
eh
I’m not sure what the actual differences are between 10th and 11th Gen
I'm okay with storage for now. Running a SATA SSD and I haven't needed faster.
What's terrible in my PC atm is actual gaming lol, esp in VR I can barely run larger games at 40fps
And I'm def CPU or RAM speed bound, which is why I'm upgrading both CPU and motherboard
Looking up B560, looks like it's not out yet? I only see ASRock's models: https://www.idealo.fr/cat/3018/cartes-meres.html?q=b560
They're out for the US
B560m pro4 price doesn't look too bad actually
Ordinateurs, jeux, multimédia et ménagers électroniques de grandes marques que vous pouvez achetez pas cher sur Alternate.be. Commandez avant 22h, livraison à domicile le lendemain.
I have a full tower case tho, would it be a bad idea to get a smaller mobo?
huh
Why do the bigger ones exist then?
It's 129€ with shipping:
I'd be using my 3060Ti on it, and upgrading my current i7-7700 to either an i5-10400F or 11400F (which one?)
And also I'd be selling my current MSI B250 PC MATE and CPU, so hopefully my net spending won't be too much.
I could buy it off here for slightly cheaper instead: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/asrock-b560m-pro4-intel-s1200-matx?agt=288
Idk if anyone is looking for a Ryzen 5 5600x, but I found this available this morning
https://www.amazon.com/AMD-Ryzen-5600X-12-Thread-Processor/dp/B08166SLDF/ref=pd_rhf_ee_s_pd_crcd_0_8?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B08166SLDF&pd_rd_r=50aa41f0-1309-4ee0-b7d2-c74c564f62cc&pd_rd_w=Bv0KU&pd_rd_wg=vB7Ly&pf_rd_p=8019ba47-0a12-4976-b76b-5c932d60db6f&pf_rd_r=KY1PZDKMBB54ZKJXW5PG&psc=1&refRID=KY1PZDKMBB54ZKJXW5PG
Does this look OK?
hard to come across a b560
is it becoz 11th gen ain't out yet?
in newegg there's just like only 1 b560 board i think
2-3 but the other is like itx and one is oos lol
oooooo
idk bout the pricing when it comes here tho i might just stay at b460m and take risk for a meh priced gpu
asrock BIOS
tho
@hoary cedar bigger ones exist because ATX can fit more pcie x4 and x1 slots, sometimes more x16 slots
Ah noice. That makes sense.
imo, mATX is ATX without the fluff
the mounting holes are all the same, most of the other things stay the same
just miss some pcie x1 and x4 slots usually
I've ordered them and also my new RAM, 3200MHz 2x16gb
The RAM was cheaper to buy from US Amazon and pay the ridiculous $20 import fees + shipping than buying in Europe lol
Would of loved a b560 itx board to be in stock lol... I payed like 160 for some z490 ones
160 each vs 94 dollars oof
They just came out last week I think?
Yeah but they are out of stock
Thoughts about msi b460m pro?
Ok then
Wut
Yeah like, 4000+ mhz
Indeed
That's nice
🥰
10400 is $40 cheaper than the 3600. Is it a good option ?
Absolutely
Yes
Gg
Thanks
When 11th gen is getting released, but ppl are still gonna opt for the prev gen and just buy the newer gen mobo
Sounds fun
Eh, Sometime next month. Need real benchmarks to see just how good or bad it is
Lol
I trust exactly zero leaks
U think 10th gen price will drop once 11th gen releases or nah?
Managed to finally get my hands on a r7 5800x, anyone know of any motherboards that dont require a bios flash to get it working? none of my local shops have any and newegg support had no idea
Get a board with Bios Flashback
B550
Most of the B550 boards have it
Can flash without a CPU, just takes a couple minutes
How does flashback work? usb or something?
Yes, usb stick and power
nvm, google is my friend
ah ok
Super easy
Yeah
My RAM usage when doing nothing with my PC has been higher than I'd like it lately, any ideas for how to maybe make it better? (and I know a "just download more RAM" joke is inevitable so just get it out of your system if you must)
Define higher than you'd like
Also, you have RAM for a reason. What's the point in having it if you're not going to use it?
I've got 16 gigs and it sits at 30% even with the highest user being discord at 200MBs ish
The point is that when I do try to do something everything gets laggy and slow because my RAM usage goes to 90%+
And it only started happening lately
Without me doing anything special
What do you fire up that uses that much ram?
Lately it's been DCS World (combat flight sim in case you don't know it) but I bet it'll be the same with MSFS2020
I know those are extremely demanding
Oh yeah, those are absolute ram eaters
But it wasn't like that 2 or even one week ago
Any flight sim is
do you leave Discord and other things running while gaming?
I try to close whatever I don't need like Chrome which obviously is a RAM eater of itself but yeah I keep discord as I need it to chat with whoever I play with
I would grab something like MSI afterburner and enable the On Screen Display
And other essentials like Steam if I'm playing a Steam game
Keep tabs on CPU and GPU useage and also RAM useage
It might not be ram, might be CPU or GPU getting maxed out
Possibly even VRAM
If your card has 6GB VRAM say, and the on screen display is maxing it out, might be your issue and you need to turn down some settings for example
My CPU doesn't go above 20%-30%, my GPU is definitely not that great but to me it just seems like RAM because it's the worst during loading screens and when all the initial textures load in
And also my RAM usage goes all the way to 90%+
Ah, we on to something
Check GPU core use and VRAM use
I would harbor a guess it's not system ram but rather GPU VRAM that's causing stutters and poor performance.
I've got a 970 with its famous 3.5+0.5 gigs
1080p?
Yeah
With a lot of settings turned on?
Medium settings pretty much
My FPS isn't too bad
And what's the weirdest to me is that it only gotten worse in the past week
Before that I can't recall anything like that
At least not as bad
Recommend using MSI Afterburner On Screen Display for GPU, CPU use and Ram/VRAM use as well as temperatures
I have a 970 in my wifes PC and replaced the thermal paste the other day due to age
I also checked the Steam page for DCS
Recommended LOW SETTINGS: GTX1070
I don't think that's right
SO check the OSD for useage and try lowering a few settings here and there
"MINIMUM SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS (LOW graphics preset settings): OS 64-bit Windows 8/10; DirectX11; CPU: Core i5+ at 3+ GHz or AMD FX / Ryzen; RAM: 16 GB (32 GB for heavy missions); Free hard disk space: 120 GB on Solid State Drive (SSD); Discrete video card NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 / AMD Radeon RX VEGA 56 with 8GB VRAM or better; Joystick; requires internet activation."
They may have updated the game and thus updated the requirements
Reason: Bad word usage
Ah
Whoops
I'm looking forward to upgrade soon but the GPU market is as bad as it can get soooo
Yes, GPU market is bad
But try turning some things down a little more and checking system stats in an overlay
Yeah, I think there's some graphical updates going on, maybe you solved the mystery
I hope so but at the same time I don't due to GPU market lol
Lowering all the settings to LOW should reveal an answer if performance increases
Will do!
MSFS2020 is even more resource hungry
So if I lower everything to low and it still happens it's not a GPU thing?
It's a BEAUTIFUL game but resource hungry
Yeah, but I've honestly only been on DCS lately
Use an OSD like from MSI afterburner and see where things are at
Like, if CPU is 30% and GPU is 100%, most likely GPU
Well yeah GPU is definitely at 100%
Yeah
But also RAM
RAM is meant to be used
Yeah I guess
I really don't think this is a RAM issue
Alright
With low CPU use and GPU at 100%, it's just the GPU struggling
Yeah, well, I guess I'll have to go into our sad sad GPU market soon and see what I can get
Yeah obviously I don't want to but where I live they're actually in stock but official retailers sell them for 2x-3x the MSRP
And it could easily keep going throughout the entire year
should i get ryzen 5 5600x or i7-10700k i7 has better performance and is cheaper but z490 doesnt have pcie4 so should i get amd or intel if i want to keep using the mobo and cpu for around 5 years but upgrade the gpu
10700k with a B560
smh
I like the vision g for z490
B560 pro4 isn't bad

Hey guys! Quick question...
Sooo I ordered the Seagate FireCuda 520 M.2 for my new build.
However, the MB I wanted was out of stock everywhere when I ordered, so I substituted for a different one..however, in my negligence I forgot to check the PICe gen on the new board. It's only a Gen3.
Is it worth it to even have the FireCuda? I cant seem to find much of anything on how it runs in a Gen3 port..Im just trying to see if its worth returning (its not even out of its shipping box yet) and getting a Gen3 M.2 or just using the FireCuda anyways.
Not even a good SSD for the price anyways
I mean, you paid for Gen 4
I'd return the drive and get something a little cheaper
Because honestly, right now, Gen 4 drives are overpriced and I'll guarantee you won't see a difference in every day use between gen 3 and 4
Only difference is if you are editing large 4K+ footage
gen 4 and firecuda are the worst combo for price
Just get a GEn 3 drive, it'll be fine
S'all good!
Save you some money too
THis is a solid Gen 3 drive for the money https://www.amazon.com/TEAMGROUP-MP34-512GB-Solid-TM8FP4512G0C101/dp/B07PHMJR4Y
and 1/3rd the price
Was yours a 1 TB?
Yeah
And it's $60 cheaper, awesome! Thanks
YW
seagate makes some POG ssds actually
seagate?
for price I said
I have a problem with booting my brand new computer
Everything lights up, works, spins, even the gpu, but nothing gets displayed. Maybe I’m not waiting long enough or something is truly wrong can someone please let me know. I am running a 5900x, on an aorus master mobo, and temporary 1080 while I’m waiting for 3080
I didn’t know that I had To bios on my mobo
Is there a way you can help me out, because I was rlly confused doing it
What motherboard exactly?
Aorus master b550
You need this BIOS file on a flash drive https://download.gigabyte.com/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_b550-aorus-master_f13c.zip
Just download it onto a flash drive and that’s it?
And unzip it
I'm reading the manual, stand by
Ai bet, please lemme know as soon as you can this took me long to build
Are you reading the manual or do you know what to do, Srry for rushing you, take your time if needed.
manual is useless, I'm finding you a video
Ai
I saw video on how to do it but it says to partition usb to fat32 and stuff like that
And it’s rlly confusing there
Eh, pretty much every USB is fat32 lol
Just copy file to USB, unzip it there and go
unless you’re using a 128 gb one
even if you have a 128gb usb, you can partition out a sub 32GB for fat32
yea
How big is the bios update?
small
Gb or mb
idk exactly how big
mb
Ai
generally smaller than 50mb, but depends on board
Reason: Bad word usage
Oh cmon
amd used 32mb bios chips
poop
Gimme a few minutes lmfao
Cause the other two I had I basically screwed them up completely
time to make a fat32 partition in a hard drive
I have a 4tb external
Found a flash
...
Ummmm
My discord froze on laptop and I can’t close it lmfao
Ok another thing
Do I need to take out my cpu to do bios flash update
yes
unplug everything except cpu and motherboard power
No
dont you?
wait what
It can be in
BRO I LEGIT JUST FINISHED
just doesn't HAVE to be
oh
the pc not the bios
...
his bios already supports the CPU, he is just trying to update it
It's fine, leave it alone lol
It’s a b550 with 5900x
Mhm
so you can leave the cpu in all the time when flashing bios?
Needs a BIOS update for CPU
Ram works gpu works, aio works
ohh
Just lights up
k
Doesn't mean it's working lol
makes life easier
Indeed!
And I won’t shock the cpu?
I thought it had to be out also until I looked into it more
well it’s probably better to have it out
Racer?
Doesn't really matter TBH. If you push the BIOS FLASH button it doesn't boot anything but the chip
*BIOS chip
Do I hold and push or just push
vid i watched, not the one you said, just said plug usb right next to hdmi and flash button
so i was like ok
but faulty usb -_-
Ah
so i talked to my friend and he said just put everything together
no need for update
and i was like fine
isnt there a usb port that says “bios” on it
Ok, reading a bit more
you need to rename the .bin file to gigabyte.bin
after you unzip it
ok
SO a file like this B550AEV2.11i
rename to gigabyte.bin
and then copy it to usb
yes
There SHOULD be a USB port labeled QFLASH+
ok
so confirming no need for cpu to be taken out
Nope
and it wont zap my part, or any parts
make sure PC is off
right?
Insert USB into the right port
psu on or off?
wait can you confirm it wont zap my parts right?
I wouldn't tell you to do it if it would zap your parts
vintage is very trustworthy
this is the second bios flashback person today
Gonna take a few minutes
now another problem
my laptop aint charging
i move my charger just a tad bit and it just stops charging
also pc turned on its own
@elfin warren
IDK about charger, probably needs a new internal port
and did it boot?
idk
lemme plug monitor lmfao
nope
but mother board showing double 0 on it
do i turn pc off or no?
Power switch
bios light still flashing
OK
Wait till BIOS light goes out
Once the BIOS QFLASH light goes out completely, might restart might not
LETS GO POST
nice
I wont
cause im using drives from old computer
i only need to download drivers to 5900x
and i need help with that lmfao
Current screen
Yea
And
What do I do abt that
Reason: Bad word usage
bad word
Mmmm
I wrote s word
There's a good chance it won't boot, small chance it will
And what do I do if it won’t
😳
Activation key?
Well, there's a couple of things you should have done
did you connect your email to windows?
Like, register Windows 10 to an email account
So you just log in and boom, activated
It says missing operating system 😂
Uh huh
So you need a Windows 10 key if you can't find the old one
Or put the old machine back together and do a few steps
Oh wait
Can I get key from my laptop
And wait do I need to basically wipe my nvme of all info
connect your email and yeah
Yeah if you want that one to deactivate
Hmmm
I wonder if a repair install will work?
That can get complicated tho
Ok so what do I do with my current situation
I would just reinstall
Can some get in call and lead me through this pls
That's the best option but it means wiping everything
So I need to boot my old computer?
I would but i cant talk
Do I need to boot my old computer
WAIT
Can I get windows on a usb and then just download it like that????
Ai so lemme do that
It'll be dinner time for me soon so I'll be out for a while
And do I have to wipe my data???
Any other option?
Ok so drivers on mobo I also need i assume
Yes
vintage i put new mobos/cpus/gpus in my system all the time and i ahve no issues
Get those from the Gigabyte site
I rlly need someone to get in call with me and show me how to do this
I am rlly confused 😂
This depends ENTIRELY on your old system
And amd drivers?
His can't even find a boot drive
oof
It's probably becuase old os was MBR
Should I try and unplug my sata???
New hardware needs GPT for UEFI
And keep nvme which has my boot
maybe fro mswaping amd to intel u need fres install
And there was absolutely no prep done before hand like driver uninstalls
oh
just redo windows
tell it to keep ur data
:/
Not funny
do u have any extra hdds/ssds?
Yea, external hdd
All his important stuff is on an NVME
And a sata
But that’s sata also has things on it
and then tranfer personal data back
That's not possible without rebuilding the old computer lol
I’m a true idiot
or an external drive
Old computer just needs my nvme
