You're looking at the JEDEC spec
wrong paste sorry my imac is so slow
Also, I know micron e die doesn't care about temp, but kinda impressive he got 6000mt/s with just a stock stick, no ln2 pot or anything
No worries
Ballistix from Crucial
rgb recommendation please
or, if you want to throw away like 50$ for worse performance
https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-32gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820374105
Neo has worse XMP, worse die
uh what
Intel, vs AMD ram is nothing more than marketing
why corsair is so expensive
And "Intel XMP" means nothing for the CPU, just that Intel developed the XMP profiles
Corsair is trash
whats so especial about them
bad die, bad looks imo, bad software, bad compatibility, bad xmp, bad price
Only reason people buy Corsair ram is because of the name brand, the product itself is inferior to say Ballistix.
👍
Really?
Is it bad performance wise
For the price, very.
Like 140$ for a kit of 2x8gb 3600mhz cl18 is..... interesting
Overpriced and garbage
Is what it is
WHen ballistix exists
Yep
Adata isn’t bad either
@robust torrent Please do it in here
The other channel is kinda busy
Ram and motheboard please
🙂
Okay I'm sorry. Thank you for helping. I have a tomahawk b550 motherboard updated to the latest bios. My ram is a trident z neo 3600mhz kit. I have the box for ram if u need more info
Sorry, it's my first build
Ok, we answered you in General chat BTW but I'll do it again here
In case you have more questions
So, 3600 mhz is effective speed
1800 mhz is actual speed that CPU-Z reports
You are 100% ok
Everything is running like it should
Yes
Everything is 100% normal
Since I’m here might as well ask: what’s the max speed for a consumer grade set of ddr3 ram?
@elfin warren quick question, am I being paranoid, or is there any reason they might limit 10th gen ram speeds on b560?
They're just listing what the processor officially supports looks like
I don't see any reason it would be limited on the board
My guess is JEDEC processor spec, not XMP
(They only list comet lake compatibility on qvl with no other mentions of stuff, I might just be paranoid atm)
I think you are TBH
Kinda like the whole AMD processor thing
Only "officially" supports X speed but that's a lie lol
Aside from my dram freq changed from auto to 3600hz, do I need to change anything else? All I see for xmp is an "A-xmp" setting
Nope, should be just fine
Install all the drivers from the motherboard manufacturers website
and the one for your GPU
and have a happy gaming time
Welp, time to start recommending this with 10400 from now on then.
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813157977
Thank you so much for your help. I was confused
Welcome!
It's actually showing up correct speed in task manager. That's relieving
Yep!
Can I disable A-xmp profile 1 or leave it on?
any suggestion for: 3080 gaming rgb best cooling max oced
@atomic fiber the aorus master is probably the best cooler
The rog is also really good but i personally think the rog is a bit ugly
Ryzen 7 3800x or ryzen 9 3600? For small form factor pc
https://www.newegg.com/global/qa/p/N82E16813157980?Item=N82E16813157980&Source=socialshare&cm_mmc=snc-social-_-sr-_-13-157-980-_-02222021 is this a good motherboard for an i3 10100?
How good of basic mobo is this?
Specifications for the Edoras motherboard
And is the cpu upgradable? It's sporting an is 9700
Only upgrade is 9900
No K processors
slower ram, limited to 2666
Only 2 ram slots
So it won't support anything higher. It seems a max of 32
Only 2 sata ports
Is a 9900 i7 bad.
It's not that it's bad but the slow ram will hobble it
It's my buddies pc. He went with the omen cause he got a deal from BB.
Just want to see what I can offer to help him make it better. It seems like it'll do what he wants though. Playing games like ark / warzone / xbox via his pc.
There are very limited upgrades with that
Is that a pc I can switch the mobo out on?
Does any1 know if the Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev.1.0) MOBO needs a BIOS update in order for it to be compatible withe the Ryzen 5 3600?
It does not
Ty
yw
This gon sound stupid bc im relatively new to PCS. If u have a pro WiFi board do u need to get a WiFi card
Nope
Bro @elfin warren your my savior
YW
Ty for answering
To be fair - and I know there is no such thing as a stupid question - what else would the ‘wifi’ in the name mean?
Some manufacturers like to hide behind asterisks. Wifi*
*Wifi available with compatible wireless card, sold separate
best mobo for 5 3600 that's $100 ish?
doubt it.
ATX for $100?
You can get a cheap b450 itx
For like 100 or less
but atx uhhh
b450 a pro any good?
looks at the very least 150
if im doing 150 i'd rather just get a tomahawk max
Only ones are from Asrock
at 150 pricing b550
Do you already have the 3600?
Hi I have been having an issue where my mouse & keyboard stop working and the lights will flicker. Plugging them in again doesn't fix it--I need to restart the PC each time. They are both wired and plugged into mobo USB ports. Also sometimes my USB wifi card also stops responding, but it's usually plugged into a USB port in the case. I'm thinking I need a new mobo? My current one is MSI Z77A-G45 ATX LGA1155 and wondering what would be a replacement that I won't have to buy used/refurbished. Appreciate any help
unfortunately if you need a new board it will be used or refurbished. Those boards first came out in 2012. Front panel USB headers can be wonky, I'd recommend everything going to the back of the case directly to the motherboard if you can.
If you can't, consider a USB hub and try that. Might be a front panel connector issuie
Would I be able to buy a new/different mobo without replacing other parts? How can I shop for a compatible board?
The ones that seem to have the problems are when I plug directly into the mobo
There aren't any made new for that chipset anymore
ok, thanks
Do you think it'd probably be best to just buy a used replacement of the same type that I have?
I'd recommend upgrading rather than investing in old tech. Find a used newer CPU/MB combo maybe for the price of a refurb unit? But used/refurbished is your only real choice for that CPU.
Okay, thanks again. Appreciate it.
YW
if i am in game some time the game goes as slow motion why like this ?
and how i can fix this
is it from parts or software?
Is it possible to gt a cheap mobo for a 6700k right now? Can't seem to find one with more than 2 PCIE slots'
They will all be used or refurbs, most likely. It was end of life in 2018
Should I wait to see Intel’s 11th Gen as well or should I stick to getting a 5600x?
if you want to you can wait to see what they offer for similar prices
b560 boards seem to be promising for budget gamers
They are
@wild cape We're moving this conversation here since you're looking for the right CPU, and this is the right server for it.
There ARE water coolers (AIO) that do have RGB fans. Corsair H150i tends to be the best of that provide. But for non-RGB AIOs, Arctic Cooler II tend to be most recommended.
-_-
He's asking for RGB.
bruh ek exists yk
EK 240mm for RGB
^
Outcools the H150i for less money
I higly recommend you start watching Gamers Nexus on YouTube. Fantastic cooler testing and full reviews including tear downs
I'm aware of Gamers Nexus.
Cooler masters leak from the pump if you aren't careful
I would avoid
ok
What's your budget on a CPU cooler?
Getting a competent AIO isn't gonna be cheap either way.
wdym?
The best AIO at its cheapest is $100.
120 bucks ain't that bad for a good performing rgb aio
Just sayin'.
You can also get Artic.
Yes indeedy
As in?
and mount rgb fans
That depends on what you're willing to pay to make sure your chip--i7 or i9--stays stable.
i'm planning to purchase the 240 basic from ek for my build
literally the best looking black cooler imo
Lets say I want that how do I put it into my newegg PC builder list?
also Stronk
Artic gud
You want a RGB cooler for less than $50, then Vetroo V5 CPU Air Cooler will do, but some are skeptical on it with intel chips.
Artic>Slightly better than NZXT lol
bruh arctic tubes are weird looking

they look like
i have yet to see a good looking rgb cooler under 50 thats not the prism
braided tubes lol
It doesnt look like its on PCPP
huh i thought it was just a gimmick
it is
nay
oh oops
I cant seem to find this case on PCPP https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16811353195?Item=N82E16811353195
diypc moment 😳
?
lemme check if it's on pcpp
They haven't added the IDX models.
Any advice Ryzen 5 3600 vs i5-10600k? Seems like roughly same price at $200-$230 and a good value. I am replacing i7-3770k. I have a EVGA GeForce GTX 960 already and I will be buying a new mobo with my new CPU. Are there other options roughly $300 or less that would be a better bargain?
@tired furnace nowadays 10600k absolutely slap 3600 in every way
From the introduction of b560 boards
yes
Honestly, PCPP isn't as extensive on data as I like it to be. I bought an Enermax Ostrog GT, and it's barely in PCPP with any given specs.
10400 too
Great I will look into it
That's because it's out of stock and discontinued
But the DIYPC model isn't.
@tired furnace and while b560 boards don't show up on PCPP, they're in stock on Newegg when I checked last
That proves my point, vintage.
And tbh pcpp is doing what they can imo
^
Isn't there an option to add a new case to the database?
SO add it manually?
I can find 710s on PCP last iirc
Yea
^
Afaik pcpp makes custom parts into actual listings, and they don't just scrape sites
There you go, Joesr.
Here's an upside to going for an i7 over an i9 (newest models): you save $50, which you can use towards a quality cooler.
what happened
We could easily register the DIYPC model into PCPP, and problem solved.
yeah
TnT is going through PCPP by our recommendation.
or go with cougar mx410 mesh
@eager shore oos last I checked
Not available for RGB.
Ye, a rgb version exists, but out of stock
it's in stock on amazon but the shipping and handling is pricey
if I upgrade to i5-10600k and b560 mobo, what compatibility issues do I need to worry about with my current parts?
what parts do you currently have
@tired furnace upgrading from a 3770k, you'll need new ram (ddr4 instead of ddr3), and you probably want to take a look at your psu
You'll want new ram, a new cooler, and I'd personally buy a new SSD. The PSU should be fine
ok thanks, any suggestions?
You can buy a new PSU if that one had been used heavily, but should be okay, I'll be back in a moment for suggestions
thanks, no rush
Oh I also have another SSD 250GB I have both hooked up (forgot to add to list) and a 1TB external
Example decent cooler :
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086WNPXVP
Example decent ram (any ddr4 3000/3200mhz cl15/16 will be nice)
https://www.newegg.com/ballistix-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820164191
Example possible nice drive if you have any need for more/faster storage
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R6V31K8
Example of one of the b560 boards we were talking about:
https://www.newegg.com/p/N82E16813157977
@tired furnace of course, and also, if the budget starts getting tight, a i5 10400 will work as a good CPU too. Asus prime b560 should also work as a mobo.
Hi all, I have a question. My asus z170-a motherboard died and Asus wont repair it. I see a large range of prices of z170-a motherboards on the newegg site.. are they all technically the same board, just different levels of build quality and component? Thanks!
Anything you find will be refurbished or used. That is a really old chipset. What kind of prices are you talking about?
That MSI is not the right price and that ASRock one is overpriced
You should be able to get a good Z170 board on ebay for like $60-$90
Well, the stuff isn't available anymore new so prices are going to vary wildly
Highly recommend upgrading if you're going to spend money
I got a really good Z170 board for $70 awhile back
wow! ok. thats much more in my price rance. I honestly dont know very much abount peripheral compatibility. my processor is the i7 6700k and i have 2 gtx 1080 cards. would you be able to point me in the right direction for a compatible motherboard that would be better?
@hollow thorn what are the considerations for 10400 vs 10600k? I do some gaming but not as much as I used to... mostly normal business use. I don't mind spending the extra $75 or whatever for 10600k if it's worth it, I don't plan to upgrade again for 5+ years.
(and what would upgrading it mean? I imagine I wouldnt get many advantages if none of the other components would change?)
I also wouldn't mind saving the $75 if it's not worth it
Upgrading your CPU would give huge performance boosts
ok thanks!
guys did you know that amd has usb issue with 500 series motherboards?
Yes
because its rare
hardware or...
and you can generally fix it with voltages
because it's pretty much a non-issue for the very vast majority of people
can it be fixed with an update?
From what I understand AMD is currently looking into the issue
its mobos not giving the right soc voltage for the cpu when someone just enables xmp 90+% of the time
@tired furnace basically, it's overclocking vs no overclocking, 10600k is unlocked, allowing for overclocking, and with a higher base and boost frequency. That higher base and boost leads to decently better single and multi-core performance. Comparison here, single thread performance is what matters most for gaming:
https://www.cpubenchmark.net/compare/Intel-i5-10600K-vs-Intel-i5-10400/3735vs3737
So if you don't care about overclocking, and is only a casual gamer, 10400 will do fine.
Also need Z board to OC CPU
@elfin warren oh damn right, forgot b didn't support cpu oc
Absolutely
Small thing to note then
b560 cheap
ok I bought the 10600k anyway
Yea, it's still decently better than 10400
Ehhh, I don't trust them after p-gm xD
But are they bundling 10th gen with 5xx boards?
Check the bundles lol. 10600k with an Asus prime Z490 for $375
Yes, there are 5xx boards in there
Moot for me at this point, I already ordered. I got the 10600k with ASUS prime b560-plus and some other hardware like you recommended. I appreciate all the help today. It will give some piece of mind and hopefully last me quite a few more years.
that'll be really nice
@elfin warren Generally I slap all Intel boards into one category because it feels like they don't have anything special lel
All decent VRMs, no need for flashback
I'm a civil engineer and who knows maybe I'll end up using it more for that type of work eventually too
They don't but I didn't feel like min-max shopping
Click and done, already had the ram lol
I am the min max guy for estimating value lel
Like, clicked buy bundle, grabbed the SSE224 and done
It's so I don't have to keep up with all the prices
IDK
pretty sure Asus has some nice voltage features on z490, making them quite nice for OCing
I'll know more this evening when I start poking around after building.
5 ghz coming right up!
I've been happy with my X570 Asus board and know the BIOS well, so I prefer Asus at this point
also a fan of asus boards for the same reasons lol
Gigabyte is stinky
@naive pendant you suck
do you guys think the crosshair 8 is worth it if i have a 2500 dollar budget?
Only if you plan to OC heavily
Otherwise a $200-250 motherboard will work just fine
Even with a mild overclock
ok thanks
wait, whats the difference between a rog b550a and an b550 aorus elite v2, (idk which one to get bc ppl are saying aorus elite but i like the rog's aesthetics)
Get whatever you like
omg gigabyte fanboy says that? ty bro
I mean the Aorus is the better one
But if you like rog get ROG
no its not rog specifically its the mobo
bc its not gonna make that much of a difference right
Hi i have a very annoying problem flashing a msi mpg b550
On a 5600x, everything else normal testbench stuff
So I followed the manual to a t, fat32 and msi.rom
And the button is solid forever and not flashing
isn't there a renaming tool for those?
Argh this cooler is so annoying
Eh, if it's flashback and not working, unplug EVERYTHING except for 24pin and 8pin eps
Yep sometimes they're picky and need even the CPU and RAM removed
on my unify-x, it works by just leaving the rom name alone
pull the file that's not the text file, throw it on a usb
Does it? It was being picky on my b450 gaming pro carbon ac
I know this needs a flash bc windows is not happy
Had to rename from the 7afuaehgohgsoifoisfhaisd to MSI.ROM
Will get to bios but windows immediately goes odd
At first assumption I thought it was a intel/amd driver issue bc i almost never work w amd cpu
But it almost def needs a flash
does your current bios support the cpu you're using?
generally if there's any bios issue, it wont post
though later bios versions does generally have bug fixes
If WHEA errors, bad cpu most likely
5600x has been TERRIBLE for that
I think I've seen at least a dozen here
sadly
I've figured out how to solve all whea issues /s
set whea multiplier in hwinfo to 0
uhh
wait for it
I can't remember what exactly it does during flashing
mostly because I just press the button and go back in like half an hour to a flashed pc but
?
It did for me
turn on for a sec?
For me it goes flashing, usb activity, everything lights up for a sec and then solid
No usb activity
I don't have an usb activity light so I dunno
Ugh
Guess i will just leave it overnight and then maybe rma it
My aio is in a rlly bad position rn but oh well
Just picked me up one of these it’s a good MOBO for the price it supports DDR4 3600 ram speeds get it quick if u want it
Most motherboards support 3600MHz, it ain't anything special.
Ik
But it’s good for da price
Especially if ur not able to get eithernet and there is a good amount of ports
What?
Nvm
Crucial 3600 CL16 2x8gb is usually the go to.
G Skill is pretty decent too
@elfin warren y does it say ur idle but ur not?
Because that's what I have it set to
oh
lol i was looking at this one but didnt know if this one was good
You'll get slightly more performance out of 2x16 vs 2x8 at the same specs
which one is better for gaming ryzen 9 3900x or intel i9 9900k
Intel, although AMD is catching up.
Intel is best for gaming, AMD is best for productivity.
On those last gen chips it's Intel
Current gen it's neck and neck
We'll see what Intel's response is for the 11 series soon, about a month until release if leaks are to be believed
Depends on the price point
Lookin' at the overall picture.
I wouldn’t buy last Gen anyways unless you have to
Get a
5800x or 5900x
Or 10850k or 10900k
Or something
Is it due to the cache?
No
Just raw performance
Cache rarely matters enough to talk about it in comparison these days
So the 5600x, which reportedly has 3.7 base speed and 4.6 boost speed, performs the same or better than the 9900k, with the reported 3.6 base speed and 5.0 boost speed?
If cache isn't factor---and I just threw that out there as a long shot---, and core/thread isn't a factor, and base/turbo speed isn't a factor...then what IS?
10850k is 350$
would rather buy that than 5600x
Intel > AMD budget
AMD > intel high end
11th gen might change it
wot
$350 right now, but yeah I agree
Probably gonna stay that way with 11th gen coming out
9900k is still 299
been that way for hella long
Instructions Per Clock is way higher on Zen 3 (5000 series)
Core/thread and base/turbo speed are factors, they are clumped together into the ‘raw potential’ category along with everything else. Cache is just the one thing that you don’t really need to pay much attention to right now.
Like I said, a long shot.
It wasn't you said it, because Fal'Cie suggest the 5600x is on par or better than the 9900k.
14++ whatever vs 7nm
Less heat production
9900k is older
The only time a 9900K would be better than a 5600X is in tasks that require as many threads as you can get such as media production
So it's the lithography (or Semiconductor).
That's one factor
the only thing it helps is more transistors
heat to a certain extent depending on tdp
The fact is that AMD boosted the IPC so even though it's a slightly lower clock speed it's able to do more in each clock cycle, which more than makes up for that
And I'm guessin' TDP isn't also a factor in performance?
That seems flexible.
TDP refers to the amount of heat it produces in a normal load, it's not a measure of power usage or performance
Making sure.
So the semiconductor is a silent spec that can make a CPU go a long way?
Yes
That's mostly a relic of the old days when you could reliably guess how much power it used based on heat
More or less
So the smaller the semiconductor, the better?
Mostly
In general yes
3990x
Intel has come a long way in 14nm but they are reaching their limit
Next Intel is supposed to be 10nm
Pretty sure they bought 3nm production from TSMC too
So in theory, AMD being 7nm for their recent Ryzens makes them perform better compared to the upcoming Intel 10nms?
u dont understand
We don't know about relative performance of the new Intels, we'll have to see about other factors
I clearly don't, Mando.
Intel knows how to stretch a semiconductor
All this complicated spec is required research for me.
Basically
what intel would greatly benefit off of is integrated graphics
you get way more transistors on a lower nm
True
could start slamming AMDs g series cpus
Start chipping away at the laptop market if the desktops are a flop like 10 series
AMD has Radeon on their side, the second they feel threatened they are going to pour so much R&D into iGPUs
Intel do have a nice backup for int.graphs in case video cards fail.
Will 10nm do?
Laptops especially would benefit from smaller process due to less heat
nvidia/amd just have a ton of space so they can put tons and tons of transistors
would be better for miners like me too kek
So the hotter the CPU, the less stable it performance, so the Ryzen's smaller semiconductor helps to keep itself stable under load as it generates less heat?
No
No?
to not be stable it would have to be thermal throttling
which is 90c+
you have to have garbage cooler
to get that
So the size of the semiconductor doesn't matter?
It matters to a point in reference to heat but a good cooler mitigates that
And a larger semi would make it hotter, right?
Typically yes, that's a factor in heat
So a smaller semi would make it acceptable even for a garbage cooler.
Which is part of why those old i7 processors use more power and generate more heat than newer ones
you dont need a garbage cooler to hit 90c, you just have to enable pbo
kek
I DID reach 82c when enabling Precision Boost Override.
I beg to differ I have PBO advanced on and I hardly hit 80c, it just removes heat as a factor in throttling to a higher limit
Just depends on what voltage the silicon requires to hit the max speed it can get
when you have a good enough cooler it can just eat it
If both the 5600x and the 9900k have the same quality cooler, the latter with its core/thread count and higher boost speed would make it the best performer? Or would the smaller semi on the former make it perform better without fear of throttling?
pbo2 with no limits will target 90-95c
The 5600X would be allowed to boost for longer due to generating less heat, all things being equal otherwise
So it's about endurance.
it generates less heat but gets just as hot
That sounds like a contradiction.
you're just thinking about it wrong
That's been the topic so far.
put 500w into a cpu that's 30cmx30cm vs 500w into an engine block
Now you lost me.
Eh, sort of
Heat is the byproduct of the mechanical work, the "waste" if you will
Heat Density, I'm gonna steal that name.
or ya know, electrical work, like what silicon does
Same concept
Pffttt just make your radiator n IHS diamond
In the car? 🤣
In other words, an Intel chip will perform peak greatness while an AMD chip will perform consistently great.
That's one way to think of it in context of what we've discussed
Which goes well with the idea that AMC chips are exceptional for work productivity.
But if the chips match the same core/thread count?
Meh
Yeah AMD has been going all in with core count
For 5600x pricing productivity wise 10850k is a better option
We'll have to see for 11th gen vs Zen 4 or whatever
zen 4 gon be a long time
AM5 and ddr5
Hi all, im thinking about doing a major upgrade to my pc (Built in 2010). What motherboard do you guys recommend? (Budget for a MB is around $225)
Not really, should be later this year tbh
Its an intel build also
Z570, right?
DDR5 is already a standard, they just need the socket
Producing is one thing, it's a physical standard that's actually been set for years
Official launch of DDR5 is July of last year
But the spec has been around before that
(Much like PCI spec)
The 12-count 5900x is $549, right?
MSRP yeah
350$ 10850k is better value imo unless you absolutely need the extra perf
Not my point, Mando.
so state ur point
Don't egg me.
The 10850k is basically the 10900k with a smaller speed count, and the 10900k normally goes for $500?
Before Intel discounted their processors yes
10850k is in less demand
And the next-gen Intel i9 would likely be as costly, or more expensive, right?
for whatever reason
and its only microcenter where its 350
its "on sale"
Even though they did exact same thing for 9900k and its been "on sale" for like a year now
yep
Intel discounted their chips to try to get back market share, retailers passed that down to us
Hope that's working out for them.
Ideally, I would like to think in the future, AMD would be in the position to put the 5900x on sale. Which would make it a more valuable chip to acquire, with the specs it's providing.
lowest i've been seeing 10850k on other retailers on sale is like 389
I just received my new i5-10600k but no cooler. Any suggestions for a cooler?
Dark Rock Pro 4
If you have clearance
And the money
If not, a Gammaxx 400 works just fine
vetroo v5
u12a
Ooh id
since when did u have 10600k lol
is for wife?
Ye
@glad socket I want a refund for a faulty processor
they dont respond to my emails
Then DM them.

Honest thoughts on this one guys, seriously considering this set. It's apparently got a XMP profile for 4000 C18 as well. The RGB is supposed to play nice with MSI, Asus, and Gigabyte software/boards.
wow looks good for 4133
Plus one of the cheapest fast sets on pcpartpicker right now including that $10 coupon from amazon
Oh that does look really nice, too bad I am not in the market for ram
guys
question
i got an asus tuf b450m plus gaming mobo and im getting a 3600 mhz speed ram, will 3600 mhz work coz it says that the max is 3200 [oc]
It'll be fine. If you've got at least a 3000 series processor you won't even need to tweak it much.
ye i got the 3800X
Perfect 1800 fclk shouldn't be a problem on that so you should just be able to enable xmp (docp in asus) and call it good
oki oki thx
hehe
msi h410m pro or b460m pro?
idk sorry
U can just ignore if u can't tbh
yes i could lol but if someone respond idk it seems less like no one is seing ur message and nobody cares
tbh
fine if it doesn't tbh
@glossy dust try to get b560, b560 pro4 is 110$, and has unlocked memory
Wait wut
So 10th gen cpu gonna have unlocked memory?
Woah
Aight imma watch some vids bout those later
After i finish this physics quiz
what
Anyone know where i can find a decent price range of a amd ryzen 5 3600xt
Why
@somber thorn 3600xt as a chip to buy doesn't make much if any sense, since launch to now, it's usually 50+ above 3600 pricing for little gain, and now 10600k slaps it around with b560 boards being avaliable
Because im ballin on a budget and im new to pc gaming so everything you just said doesnt make sense to me lmao @hollow thorn
Basically, screw 3600xt, intel is where it's at for low end atm
10600k slap that into next week
Plus i traded an ar 22 for over $1k in pc parts mainly for am4 socket
None of the XT processors are worth the money for the little gain
@hollow thorn
So do you already have an am4 board or..?
Ill dm you
are 5th gen ryzens and 3080s still selling out super quickly
yep
I only got a 3600xt 'cause I managed to get one for about $10 more than a 3600, I'd only recommend a 3600 if you already have an AM4 board and don't want to wait until the 5000 series cpus get to MSRP or close to it
what do yall think of that TUF B550 mATX board? It's $30 off rn and I want to get it.
@void jolt link
one sec
Very vague words
It's open box
No cables or manuals
Most of the time with open box
Might not have an IO shield either
Just plan on no accessories
I/O shield doesnt matter too much
Right, just letting you know
AFAIK their house isnt too statitcy as it is
The other thing to consider
and static doesnt do too much damage anyways
M.2 screws
true
and standoffs might not be in there
actually
I bought a whole thing of M.2 screws because I was missing one at one point
so I have plenty
Mobos come with those and SATA cables usually so if you need those plan on getting them separately
Point is, there's a reason why it's "30$ off"
What about the M.2 standoffs though?
yeah I see now
Need those as well
wdym by standoff? you only need one screw for an M.2, no?
Like I'd personally grab a b550m aorus-p that was 130$ msrp
@void jolt you know what you screw the screw into
M.2 has standoff like motherboard standoff
oh
Little peg the screw goes into
SOmetimes they're on the board already, sometimes not
Ive never had to use one of those
Because usually pre-installed, not always
always been on my board already, and the same looks like it for this board as well
all im going to put in here is a single M.2, a 3070 or something like that, a 3600, and a 212 that I have lying around, with 16 gigs of CL18 3600mhz RAM I also have lying around
That'll be fine, just be aware if you get an open box Mobo it may be missing things
nothing that I need, I dont think
Bend
The pictures do seem to show them preinstalled but might not be an accurate representation
im most worried about screwing it into the case
what do you recommend then
I mentioned this one specifically because I like Asus TUF boards and it was cheap
compared to usually
no
ATX or mATX
im guessing you arent going to list an ITX because those are expensive
ITX needs a different case
This is an absolutely godly board for the price rn
https://www.newegg.com/asrock-phantom-gaming-b550-pg-velocita/p/N82E16813157934
oh my
@elfin warren take a look, 130$ for a great board that HAS A DAMN POST CODE
no kidding
I know but
It used to be 200$
I HATE Asrock BIOS with a passion
Not disagreeing
I just need to use bios to set an XMP profile, no OCing going to be done
Their BIOS is just.....weird
I'm definitely keeping that board in mind when suggesting Zen 3 in the near future
Oh no I don't think it has flashback
Responding to myself
its fine at $130 though, right?
Yes, for 3000 series
With no flashback, no way to update BIOS for 5000 series without another CPU
I like those
It uses polychrome
I think aura is ASUS
gotcha
i know
I use
some other companies use Aura or Fusion or iCue as well
it uses polychrome
polychrome
Is there any idea of when 11th Gen Intel CPUs will be revealed?
March
Alright
I don’t really plan to buy a new CPU till the end of the year anyways so wanted to look into them and see how they compare to the latest Gen for AMD
DDR5? yes
Yeah, best to start looking again when you have the money/time for it
Things change a LOT in a year
Yeah
I have no money for it atm just was looking as I’m saving up for a 5600x atm but am open to 11th Gen Intel or AM5 depending on cost and how close to performance it is and how much money I have at the time
Set a budget. When you have your budget saved, pop on in here and we'll make you the best PC for your money with what's available
Alright thanks
All I’d be looking for is RAM though I plan to keep the GPU for a while
And motherboard too ofc
What MB is it?
I currently have a MSI Z390 -A PRO so going to need a new one no matter what I go with
Yep
I dont have any rgb in my build but apparently my mobo has rgb, are there any cables I will need to connect to make the rgb work?
asus rog strix b550f gaming WiFi
ok thank you
Don't ever say that again
stupid malware that doesn't let you uninstall
iCUE if u want control
kek
i still have to close armoury crate in task manager because it lowers my hashrate and won't uninstall 😡
They do though
iCUE is Corsair though
you can control asus products in iCUE
Yeah but you can control asus products in iCUE
Alright
same with 3080/3090 FE LEDs
so every time i boot my computer it says settings have changed in the bios when nothing has changed
any ideas
CMOS battery is dead
They're cheap, grab a CR2032 from your favorite store and swap that out with the old one on your motheroard
you can get a standard sized button battery at pretty much any gas station
its never the same thing though. One time itll be just the M.2
next time it will be cmos failed
so Battery then?
Yes battery
K easy enough of a fix
I will try it and report back later on if it fixes or not
How often do they normally need fixed
changed
Roughly 3 years, sometimes more sometimes less
I mean its only 6 months old
Bad battery then, it happens
im sorry ik im annoying lol, but i gotta just make sure because im buying my PC like soon, so i gotta make sure, i wanted to ask whats better Asus Rog Strix B550-E or ASUS Rog Strix B550-F
If you need ARGB, go E
So, there's a difference
aRGB is 3 pin 5 volt
RGB is 4 pin 12 volt
not compatible
So if your devices are 5 volt aRGB, get the E board. The F board doesn't have aRGB
i mean i want to be able to change the RGB of the motherboard through the Asus application
Right, BOTH can do that
But the actual RGB connections and devices are either aRGB or RGB
F doesn't have any aRGB connectors
SO if your cooler or fans are aRGB, you'll need a separate controller
both basically the same board
alright
vintage explained whats different
ok but like something like the Corsair H150i pro XT and the LL120 fans, and the rgb on the Ram sticks for example, cant i just change them through their own application, like i download the corsair application to change their rgb, idk if there is a G.skill application but if there is, cant i just do it? im really sorry its just i dont really understand what you mean
Ram, yes.
For external devices, need to see if it's aRGB or RGB
There's a physical connection AND voltage difference for RGB and aRGB. Two different things
If you get the hub
i mean, like i want to change the color of the AIO pump, and the LL120 fans, and the LL120 3 fan pack comes with the lightnode pro so cant i just change them through the software?
i will be getting 3x 3 fan packs, i will have 3 lighting node's
you might have to get creative if you're gonna actually connect 9 fans
wdym?
the hubs have 6 ports
potentially, I'm not sure how that'd actually work
like ill have 2 light node pro's, and in lighting node 1 ill have 6 fans connected, and in light node 2 ill have 3 fans connected
whether you'd need two connected or could somehow daisy chain/use splitters
i meant like ill need 2 lighting node pro's not the fans
listen so what i mean is, ik your annoyed from me its just i dont know any of this stuff so thats why im asking alot, but thing is there will be only 4 things that will contain RGB, the Motherboard itself which will have rgb, i want to control the RGB on that Motherboard through the ASUS app, and the Ram Sticks i want to control the RGB through the G.SKILL software, i want to control the AIO Cooler RGB pump through the Corsair App, and same as the fans, so im asking which Motherboard should i choose then?
I'm not annoyed, Slappy was answering so I stepped out
ah ok
but yeah
If someone else is answering, no need for me to interfere
so cant any of this be possible in both Motherboards?
managing corsair hardware for the first time is kind of a headache, I would tell you to go to the corsair discord but it's kinda worse than this one
It'll be fine, just follow the installation instructions to a T
if you're lucky icue will recognize and be able to control all your other rgb stuff though
OpenRGB, one place and done
I can control the lighting on my asus motherboard through icue
Reason: Duplicated text
what?
i meant cant i do that? connect all 9 fans to the lighting node pro's and just control the rgb through the corsair software?
RGB software is finicky
icue?
Nothing more or less. One boot works fine, the next maybe not lol
All of them are finicky tbh, nature of the beast
but the G.Skill software is the easiest one tho right?
Yes
you might need one lighting node pro and two rgb hubs to get all 9 fans on but yeah that should work I think
wait, i thought i only needed 2 lighting node pro's
the lighting node pro has two channels
you can connect an rgb hub to each
I have them, I can show you a pic real quick
alright
top right is lighting node pro, it has two channels for rgb connection
bottom left is rgb hub for corsair fans, connected to one of the channels
I believe you can connect two hubs to one lighting node and connect all your fan rgb that way
oohhh, so your telling me i can get 2 RGB Hub's and connect all the fans to them the 9 fans like the first one will take 6 fans second will only take 3, and then connect both those 2 RGB Hub's to the 1 Lighting node pro?
yeah, exactly
its that easy?
I don't see why not. This is just for the RGB though
yeah ik
if i wanted to change the speed of the fans i would need a commander pro
correct?
or i can do that through the hub?
oops I had a misconception about this aio model, I thought it'd come with the hub
rgb hub?
wait so im watching a video rn, but he showed me how to connect the rgb, but idk how to power the fans
32 gigs of ram, only 25 available on startup 😳
I've got one, though I have no idea what to use half of the plugs in it for, just the fans and the rgb
yeah you'll need a fan hub of some kind
wait, i need something else other than the RGB hub and the lightnode pro?
well your fans need to actually connect to your computer to spin
Reseat the memory?
RGB connection does not power the fans
ik so how do i connect them to my computer?
^
do you know where do i buy that fan hub?
its not that its not working
its just being used or something
"Available" means able to be allocated, not currently in use
yeah
would the Commander pro be the easiest way to do all of this?
probably
Windows itself usually uses ~4gb of ram so
yeah
Add some background processes, 5gb idle usage makes sense
right
it has 6 fan ports on its own, I'm not 100% sure how to get 9 connected reliably
I use more than that with Firefox open
one of my ram sticks is pushed over due to the cpu cooler
Well if it works and it's stable when you test it...
why
too late for that, broke now
spent last of money on 2 more sticks of ram
until later today that is
but if i got a different cooler id have to get a noctua because thats the next best thing
but those are expensive
Pretty sure you can use a 2 to 1 fan cables, I think those usually work well, they have for any of the fans I've used at least
true, but corsair uses weird connectors sometimes
Yeah, but fan connectors are fan connectors, I am using some cooler master fans in one and a fractal design fan
locking standard for fan connectors that isn't proprietary but nobody else uses
For a 5800x? nah
wait I'm dumb, I just double checked my ML fans and the locking connectors are only for RGB
im using the fuma 2
supposed to have room for ram but that first slot is blocked by like 4 mm
The rgb connectors are a weird type, but the fan connectors are the standard
Still, 5800x has peak power of 112W
not even that
That's wrose case AVX workload
Really? My 5800X has peaked at 145 at stock settings
PBO and other things on?
Plug and play should be ~115W with no adjustments
My board defaults to PBO on so that's stock for me lol
Ah
