Future plans = price on all GPUS changes too. Currently you can get a 1080 for $400-450, or less depending on location. I'd probably suggest aiming for at least a 2060, but often they're a fair bit more money than a 1080. no big issue, but 10 series is from 2017-ish. As for how much of an upgrade:

Like Chillin said, I'd say aim higher. Thanks to current events everything is rising in prices, it's pretty unpredictable as to when things will stabilize again. They started to but again, it's fluctuating. So aim a bit higher, especially if it's just for hobbies such as gaming, and if you really need it. If you can run everything just fine as of now, I'd just refrain from upgrading for no necessary reason.

Also I don't know as much as everyone else, so don't take my advice blindly
