The Vram actually doesnt play a big factor in fps gains as long as you have enough for your specific settings and resolution
the gpu clock speeds and memory clock speeds are the ones to look out for
and btw a quick note: you cant double the vram in SLI or Crossfire, for example: if you have 2 rtx 3080 with 10 gigs of vram each, you wont get a total of 20 gigs, it will stay 10 GB

Soldering iron is used for larger components. However stuff on motherboards are generally to small to solder it (its possible but not recommended). You rather have a hot air rework station which focuses heat on an area to melt the pre-existing solder instead of having a physical hot object burning other parts of the board
