I’m fairly sure that’s how it works, yes. Let’s say you pay $500 for a gpu, and then step up to a 3080, you’d pay the difference of $200(assuming the gpu is $700, then plus any other fees or taxes)

Mine was 1200 even when I knew the 3070 and 3080 were coming out. I somehow decided to add an extra 150 on a processor, 270 on a GPU, and 50 on a better power supply. Also added 20 extra for better RAM. I don't understand how I got to this point

Hey all, so I am on a budget of about 500 for a graphics card. I really want to get the rtx 3070 but I fear I won’t make a purchase because of there not being enough. I was also thinking of waiting for AMDs new cards, however Im not sure about waiting so long for their release (even though it isn’t too far away, I sort of need the card now).Soooo my question is, what would you say a good alternative is? I am mainly using it for 3D modeling and game development and high res sculpting. Also I need it to be a 2 slot GPUs due to my case.
