the lag is he seems to be talking about is the lost of frame rate, that just sound like the phones just overexerting and has reduced performance because of it.
There is a setting for variable quality for the game to shift quality during gameplay to help with performance issue the longer you play, but really the best solution is to let that phone rest.

Invest into a phone cooler as soon as possible.
Don't be me.
Year 1: played 6hrs a day at work.. 60fps.
year 2: noticing my summoner spells being burned into the phone.
year 3: after 3 matches my frame rate drops.
year 4: I buy a :$20 fan.. constat 60fps phone temp stays at 11*C
