true i think also depends on what hard drive you have too. obivously having a HD is slower than an ssd and also depends if single core frequency. if it's minimum 3.0 ghz you will likely have a good chance. yes moneterry is at msot where oyu can upgrade. Ventura is a 5050. i have an imac 10,1(late 2009) and went up to ventura and does fine

# grim flower Is it best to go to Ventura?

There are somethings that may or may not work such as FaceTime and or I message. Another point I can say is I does run smoothly regardless but again recommend using a 7200 rpm drive minimum. Cause for some reason those old Mac's came with 5400

  1. I'm glad auto translate is built-in
  2. If your drive has a clicking noise it means the drive is dying and recommend you take any important data and never use that hard drive

Also, some older Mac computers don't play well with mice and keyboards on Ventura and later (and in fact won't even detect them because of differences in how these are handled compared to other USB devices) and using a USB hub adapter is the only workaround for this. So if that bothers you, I would stick with Monterey.

#

Shit, the only reason I upgraded to Sonoma in spite of this is because Monterey glitched my display and the OCLP patches for that are fixed only as of Ventura and later (or correct me otherwise).

#

That and I didn't want to wipe the drive just to downgrade to Big Sur.

#

Or roll back to Catalina for that matter

#

That being said, I do still have to wait for the adapter to be delivered before I can log into the Mac again because the detection mechanism is at the hardware level and Ventura is the first release that dropped support for that implementation as a consequence of phasing out the last of the Mac computer systems that still use it

#

Luckily I have Prime on my Amazon account and was able to order over the weekend for delivery early in the week

#

And tbh six and a half for a USB hub is way more efficient in terms of budget than a $1200 current generation iMac.

#

Also, since this affects Mac computer systems from earlier than 2012 (if not including) then you would likely have the same situation that I do unless you stop at Monterey

#

Hope that helps you decide
