"MEAT FOR THE GRINDER" was 09 1Lt. Bullshark's Persistent Campaign 1st Mission, taking place in the A Shau Valley, Hamburger Hill and Banh Trung areas of operation in Thua Thien Province, South Vietnam.

To the officers in command, I want to nominate 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam for an award based on his above excellent performance in today's operation alongside the 7th CAV, 31st MEU and Tiger Force on MF2. The mentioned soldier showed outstanding teamwork and selflesness and I believe he deserves a recognition. I will provide an after action report with more details about the private's actions today.

February 16th, 1965
Hamburger Hill, Thừa Thiên Province, South Vietnam

As the operation started, 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam boarded a VNAF Kingbee (callsign Kingbee 1-1) and immediately offered to assist as Crew Chief and man the aircraft MG. After a few minutes of orbitting above the area of operations, Pfc. An Bao Lam identified a large enemy force and began radio comms with troops on the ground to warn them as he commanded the aircraft pilot to orbit close to enemy forces and engaged them with the Kingbee MG, exposing himself to harm and danger but effectively laying covering fire for the friendly forces on the ground. As Kingbee 1-1 approached the ground to drop off 13 Maj. Custer near the frontline, they were hit by artillery rounds that took down the helicopter. Both helicopter crew suffered incapacitation but were quickly assisted by a fireteam of 7th Air Cavalry infantry. Pfc. An Bao Lam immediately jumped into action and began working close with the Air Cavalry men, acting as a medic and rushing towards the aid of fallen soldiers, regardless of his own safety and danger. I witnessed the Pfc. heal at least 20+ soldiers on the field, and when any vehicles were damaged, he was ready with a wrench to repair them, contributing in the conservation of US & Allied forces equipment and preventing the enemy from capturing them. The soldier demonstrated great cooperation and leading skills when it came to build hasty defenses, once again being ahead of what was expected and building a series of night defense positions in the village of Banh Trung, north of the A Shau Valley that were used as a main defense point during the operation. 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam showed once again great valor in this defense, acting as medic, repelling countless waves of VC and building defensive positions to protect friendlies. These actions and positive type of behaviour should always be recognized as it is soldiers like 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam who make this game and community so great. Please consider my nomination and feel free to contact me in case you need more details.

AWARD RECOMMENDATION

TO: Bro Nation Commanders, Allied Forces, Cam Lao Nam / Khe Sanh
SUBJECT: Nomination for Award – 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam [ARVNR]

For gallantry and selfless service in combat operations on 16 February 1965 in the Thừa Thiên Province, 04 Pfc. An Bao Lam distinguished himself through exceptional courage, teamwork, and dedication to duty.

While aboard Kingbee 1-1, he assumed the role of Crew Chief, identifying enemy forces and relaying critical intelligence to ground troops. Exposing himself to hostile fire, he provided effective suppressive fire, aiding friendly forces. After an artillery strike downed the aircraft, Pfc. Lam continued his service on the ground—rendering lifesaving aid to over 20 wounded soldiers, repairing vehicles under fire, and fortifying defensive positions in Banh Trung.
