So I have ppl on my Island almost everyday and have never had an issue. I think the Hacker PSA is just there for extra caution.

DMs is still the best way because it's accessible to most ppl in this discord and better than posting it for all to see

I always give ppl my dodo code by DM along with some simple bullet points of helpful info for my island

If my PC is not available for checking Discord DMs, I leave my phone open on the DMs section to notice when I get a new one since DMs from strangers get filtered to a special section

How do I do that

@cloud canopy This is complicated so save this, okay? And don't do this unless you really want to trade this villager, because imo it's not worth the hassle. It involves things like time traveling and there are YT videos on the topic.

Assuming you have less than 10 villagers, you make sure you have room on the island, buy a plot from Nook, set the plot, then talk to the villager. Usually they want to play a game. If you win the game they move in.

If you have all ten, you can skip the buying of the plot, play the game, and they will talk to nook to move in. However they will suggest which villager to move out so they can take their place. If you don't like the suggestion, quit without saving, close the game completely. Then reload and try again.

Once this villager moves in, you need to go through the process of getting another villager to move out, then one more to move in (because the last villager in cannot move out), which will involve time traveling to find another villager or two to move in to take their place, and only then can this villager currently at your campsite be traded away in boxes.

Like I said, really not worth the hassle.
