Well, every day one will wash up on the beach on your island and another one will at work. And a villager is always crafting during waking hours. Seasonal ones came from balloons. You can also get some by going on island tours or mystery islands.

The game favors getting you DIYs you don't already know.

There's only one resident representative but you can have eight people in total if you use other accounts on your Switch. It's one island, per Switch, per game, per Nintendo Switch Online account.

Although based on what Nintendo has said about Switch 2, you can have a separate island on there even with the same account, the only thing you cannot do is have the game installed on both switch 1 and 2 at the same time, so to access the other island you gotta do the digital move feature they're introducing
