I have it and personally I think it’s worth it, though it depends on how focused you are on the decorating part of acnh. I got it for the extra furniture, plus you get to decorate villagers houses and revisit them :) of course it’s not needed to decorate well I just like the extra stuff lol

Plus if you have amiibos then you can invite them and decorate a vacation home for them which is sweet

I don’t think so, just searched it up and supposedly the game saves to the system, not the actual card. That’s how the console knows if you already have an island on the switch, even if you bought a new game

I got it and I also think it's worth it. I like collecting furnitures and it gives me more options than DIY, shaking trees, or waiting for them to be sold in Nook's Cranny. It's also great if you want to decorate rooms/homes with a specific theme but don't want to change yours.
