I like it but at the same time, I feel as if it’s a) full of stuff that’d be in your regular AC town anyway, to the point where if you moved it all out back to where it should be it’d feel much emptier, and b) I feel as if having most of the special NPCs existing as shops makes the world of AC feel much smaller than older games?

I feel as if NH simultaneously does this better and worse, imo

but as I’ve said before, they just need to get the mixture of travelling NPCs vs permanent shops right

I don't know if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I've always loved those extra spaces outside of the village. Like the city in City Folk and the Main Street in New Leaf were so cozy to me. 💛 I also loved seeing my past villagers walking around too! Honestly, even with all of the problems I have with Harv's Island (I'm just not a big fan of it in general, although I can't deny the update gave him a lot more to do) it's such a great place to visit.

That's true. Maybe it's just lingering resentment? Lmao I didn't like that he was reduced to a Photography studio (I still never use that feature) after previously running a campground for RVs. And while I am glad they brought that back for him, I guess I don't understand why the NPCs visit our island and yet there's no need for them to do that because we can visit them at Harv's Island. (Which was also something I wasn't fond of in New Leaf.) I'm probably in the minority here but I think it takes away the point of them visiting the island. Except for Redd. He literally never shows up for me so I'm okay with him being there lmao

Yeah but I would like a return to it's original form too. Honestly, I think New Horizons would benefit from a lot of the little holidays that Wild World and the older games had. Things like judging your neighbors Christmas lights, having a flea market, La Di Da Day, judging your neighbors gardens, etc were such cute ideas and really made the town feel so alive. I would spend ages arranging my furniture in my little Wild World house so they could come buy it lmao

In terms of actual and loyal player base, yes that is true, but the direct New Horizon took was more beneficial in a finical perspective. New Horizon wouldn't be as popular if it had the limiting decoration New Leaf has. The fact that they probably spent most of their resource time and money on Teraforming and housing decoration was probably the right choice for money.

Also, the fact that the time since the last game was almost twice the average time between games definitely increased the hype

For example, instead of just one person using mayoral powers to build a bridge, anyone could start a petition that your villagers would sign

I think that's an unpopular opinion to have in the New Horizons community but I 100% agree! I really liked the random sign posts in the previous games. It felt more alive building up the town that way. Also, weirdly enough, I'm more creative when I have limits like random house plots and stuff like that, so I miss that aspect too.

I actually randomized all of the placements of my buildings (with random.org not something in the game) just to have that feeling again and have to work around them lmao

That's Sable's thing, that happens in every game (other than maybe the original? I can't remember) - the episodes were different

With Sable you just talk to her once a day and she begins to open up about her past. But with the episodes, the characters would randomly go into a thinking state then talk to you about stuff when you spoke to them

They’re the same in framework, music and visuals but different in many other ways: no villager competitions, real world holidays are back but they’ve cut the 2 or 3 holidays worth giving a damn about in WW, grass wear is a thing now, Boondox has been replaced by the village fund, you can now downgrade Nook’s shop to one that suits your play style better, and the red turnip trade has been replaced by Serena’s fountain

The city was definitely disappointing to me. Before I actually saw gameplay I read about City Folk quite a bit on the wiki. I imagined the city as like, an actual city, with a bunch of little alleyways to go down and find characters and shops in. When I saw the actual city it was... Very disappointing lol

that's a good question ! i want to say it's not, as usually the hardware that nintendo puts out isn't (ie. the e-reader isn't) plus a lot of these gyroid cards happen to be in europe so i wanna say that they can be used anywhere ! the only part i feel might differ is that the gyroid card uses the japanese animal crossing logoing which might imply that it reads the game data in japanese

Hey hey, is New Leaf still worth playing in 2022? New Horizons just isn't hitting the same swings it used to tbh, but I lost my old new leaf cart so I'd have to start all over

Because with Horizons, it just feels a bit lackluster with how little substance there is. It's like there's a hundred things you can do but they barely get your feet wet with how little depth they can have

I think so, yes. I had New Leaf when it first came out in Japan and unfortunately abandoned my town before it got its North American release so I never got to play it during its peak online play period. And right now the online community for NL is definitely smaller than NH (you need to search for active groups)

But if you’re looking at just gameplay, New Leaf is a more satisfying experience than New Horizons in my opinion

I got back into New Leaf a few months ago and was hooked, playing almost daily since then. There’s a lot you can do in the game. The island mini games! The villagers randomly asking you to play hide and seek or find furniture for them! The NPCs having more depth and purpose!

Public works projects. You can only place special items outside and they have to be unlocked by having villagers “ping” you (when they run up to you after going “!“ when you pass by)

If you just play normally you can spend literal years playing and still not unlock them all since the rate of appearing are fairly low. You can do a trick to farm pings but it’s tedious (it works though, I got all the zen PWPs in a few days)

PWPs definitely are more limited compared to NH where you can put items anywhere with few restraints and as many as you want. You can only have a max of 30 (including bridges, and only a max of 3 bridges)

On the plus side: only axes have durability and the golden axe will never break. Silver axes will make special designs on your stumps that spawn mushrooms

Downside: flowers will wilt if you don’t water them daily, so make sure to enact the beautiful ordinance before you time travel or your flowers will all die. Plus side is that you can pick them up and move them or put them indoors or storage

unfortunately it’s hard to keep villagers forever. filbert wanted to move and somehow i managed to make him stay but it took a LOT of convincing lol. for me at least in the older games i don’t focus too much on the villagers- i have my favorites in NH and then if one of my favorites come in a different game I try to get them to stay but if not I just let them leave

OK, it’s more like there’s 3 different versions of the game in Japan: the original N64 version, which is missing a load of things and has some slightly different character designs, the GameCube port, released in December of the same year, which adds a load of new stuff, mostly to do with GBA connectivity (but it’s worth checking out, because this is the game the original Animal Crossing is localised from), and then e+, which is based off of the American localisation but also adds and changes a load of stuff

City Folk was okay for the time but at least for me, not my favorite. I couldn't see other villages by just creating one on a different memory card liked I'd do on GameCube and after a while the city itself got kinda boring.

I'm not familiar with what game you're looking at, however when any save data is corrupted, it means that it is unplayable. To my knowledge, there's nothing you can do. That would be why it offers to delete the data for you. I'm sorry 😭

Absolutely no problem! I've had this happen a couple times with various games in the past - sometimes it's from exiting the game while it's saving, or at least that was my problem. I had a different occasion where the save data was put onto the wrong save setting so I exited while it was saving it and it corrupted the data

Normally I jump right back in and take it as a sign to play the adventure all over again, despite the letdown of losing your data
